Since there are no reviews, I'm going to describe him based on our first class. Professor Parker seems very pragmatic and passionate. He did a study abroad in Australia and loves herpetology, which directly correlates to the class. His grading scale is extremely reasonable, and he seems to care a lot about the students and their success.
This is his first year here, but I did want to leave a review because so far he has shown to be a great professor. He is passionate about his work, does not move too slowly, answers questions thoroughly, and overall seems like a nice dude.
He is a very good professor! It was his first semester, so it feels like he is still figuring things out, but he is still very good. A lot of lecture material, but the class is graded very leniently and he makes sure that he knows what we do and do not understand so he can make sure we fully understand everything.
Mickey is great! He really knows his stuff and if you study and know the info in red on his lecture slides (which he posts in BB) you should get an A no problem. The grade is 55% from quizzes on the material from lectures that week, which are given through lockdown browser and have two attempts.
He was amazing! He truly cares about his students and making sure they understand the material. He lectures the whole time but he is not boring in the slightest. He makes the class entertaining and will answer any question you have. The course work is also very manageable, not overwhelming like some others, I highly recommend having him if you can!
Honestly my favorite professor this semester. He trys in lectures and cares that we learn the info well. He is a lenient grader so that is really nice and helps your grade in the end. There is only the midterm and the final and the rest is projects that you should do well on and online quizzes that you have 2 attempts on.
Mickey Parker, in my opinion, is one of the BEST professors to set foot at this university. He is so nice and has amazing lectures. His quizzes for attendance were during lecture due to being online as his first class. He gave so many different job resources for those wanting to get into Ecology. You won't find a better professor for this class.
This is one of the best professors. As a freshman, his class helped me adjust to the fast speed of lectures and taught me how to manage my time studying. There is a quiz every week and two exams that make up most of your grade. He cares about all his students and takes the time to make sure everyone understands the material before moving on.
He's a cool guy, but just be warned: his powerpoints are crazy long and have a lot of information in them. It can take a while for him to grade stuff, but overall he's chill.
My favorite professor I had this semester!! It's almost impossible to fail his class because of the way he has his grading scale set up. There were quizzes every week and the lectures could be boring at times, but he always tried his best to make it interesting. He really cares about students understanding the material and passing the class.
Doesn't teach in lecture what is on the quizzes. Midterm was only 20 questions despite being multiple chapters so studying was a waste of time as most of the material was not even covered. "Correct" answers to short answer questions are completely subjective to him and are worth more than other questions.
Quizzes and exams are on lockdown browser, lectures are long and most of the information that is on the slides is not what you are tested on. His way of attendance is weird, it is an exit question due the same day of the class. He says missing a couple of classes does not affect your overall grade but it does. Fun, engaging, and includes anecdotes
Ecology and Evolution with Mickey Parker was a great class. 55% of the grade was weekly quizzes on the content from that week's lectures. There were only 2 exams, the mid-term and the final, which were 15% of the final grade and given in lockdown browser. This course is pretty easy, just keep up with studying and you can easily get a B+ or an A
The class was basically all lecture and there were weekly quizzes on the slides that made up most of the grade, but they were relatively easy. He does occasional polls in class to take attendance but you don't really have to be there to learn the material since he basically just reads off the slides.
Professor Parker is the best option for BIOL301. He provides a free pdf of the textbook, though the lectures are the bulk of the information. He is interesting, and genuinely available & happy to help his students outside of class. The weekly quizzes, midterm/final are online and aren't difficult as long as you study well (not solely memorizing).
Mickey is a nice guy, passionate about his field. Graded on quizzes (retakes allowed), and midterm + final (study and you'll be fine). He provides a pdf copy of the textbook so you don't have to buy it. Attendance wasn't mandatory but there were exit questions that counted for very little. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
he was actually an amazing teacher for bio102. very passionate about what he teaches and tries to engage with you as much as possible. very friendly and understanding as well. daily exit question that was pretty easy, weekly quiz with two attempts, some extra credit, and a midterm and final (these were the hardest for me).
The extra credit opportunities are great and are grade boosting, his lectures are easy to follow along with.
Prof. Parker is a great professor who cares a lot about what he is teaching. He is very engaged with his students during lectures and is funny. He gives extra credit so make sure to do it, and the weekly quizzes/discussion are easy and really help get your grade up. Exams aren't timed and not terrible. He cares about his students. 10/10 recommend.
Best science-related professor I've taken so far!!!! He is so sweet and respectful, and gives plenty of time for you to visit him for office hours. Class is lecture-heavy, but other than that, as long as you study the powerpoints, review what you got wrong on the quizzes, and answer the concept ?'s he gives you, u should be fine in this class!!1
He gave interesting lectures and truly cared about the students understanding the material. Exams were only 10% of the overall grade each and the multiple choice questions were repeated from the quizzes, which took off a lot of the pressure. He has a textbook listed but it is $200 and you will never use it.
Mickey is a great professor who clearly cares about the material he is teaching. The material is easy enough that you don't necessarily have to pay attention to the lectures, but the lectures are engaging enough usually. He gives lots of extra credit opportunities and his quizzes give you one retry, making them very forgiving.
Great professor! A lot of content about plants and animals so I wasn't always super interested, but he makes the class engaging. Lots of extra credit opportunities and quizzes are weighted a lot more than exams, so it's not over if an exam doesn't go well. He's very approachable and helpful with questions.
Absolutely loved this professor. The way he taught just made content stick even though he taught easy material. Gave plenty of extra credit. Easy grader. Is not clear what is on the midterm and final but quiz questions make up most of it. Weekly journal entry, 2 case studies (done in class), midterm, final, weekly quiz (35% of grade) 2 attempts.
My absolute favorite teacher! Weekly quizzes with 2 attempts and only 2 exams. Couple of in class case studies. Very engaging and approachable. He's teaching herpetology next semester.. something I'm not interested in but I'd take it just to have him again!
Just take him.
Mickey Parker was wonderful! Lectures can be long, but he makes them interesting and often includes anecdotes from his fieldwork. Very easy to learn from and a super kind individual overall. His quizzes/exams are easy, just review the notes (he never throws curveballs). He opens up time in class to ask questions and is very lenient with due dates.
I took him for 102 and 301. He is a very engaging professor and is always willing to help students. Attendance was not mandatory, but he does say a lot of useful information in class. Weekly quizzes with two attempts. Few tests which have multiple choice questions and open responses (about 2-3 sentences). Lots of extra credit opportunities too.
An amazing professor who offers extra credit when needed and also makes lectures fun and difficult to not interpret. 1000% recommend over any other biology professor.
Professor Mickey is the best! His lectures are amazing and he's very kind and passionate about ecology. ALWAYS open to questions and discussions. The class covers a lot of ground, so just be sure to study well and try to connect broad concepts. There are 3 exams, weekly quizzes (2 attempts) and 2 in-class case studies (these are fun). Take him!!!
Best biology teacher in my opinion. He is very great at giving lectures and also offers extra credit from time to time. He is also very understanding and caring and is overall not just an amazing teacher but an amazing human being, and It shows.
Very test heavy, gets aggravated easily when students ask for assistance, low patience.
Best professor I've had and I don't even like ecology. He keeps lecture interesting and gives examples to help you understand and remember. Quiz every week but you have 2 tries and some questions show up on exam. Helps you really learn. Really cares about his students and wants you to succeed outside his class as well. Gives easy extra credit too
Great guy who cares about what he's teaching. Attendance not mandatory, weekly quizzes, 2 case studies, and 3 exams. Easy class if you study a little before each exam.
Very passionate about his work.
Dr. Parker was great, he really knows what he is talking about and makes sure that all his students are understanding the topics. The exams were on lockdown browser but I think he gives helpful material to study.
Professor Parker is a very passionate and entertaining professor. If you go to the lectures and take notes you wont need to study much for exams. All of the exams include open-ended questions which I personally didn't like but he did offer many extra credit opportunities. Exams and Quizzes are on lockdown but you have two attempts on the quizzes.
lectures confused me a little bit, but he's super passionate about what he teaches. he is always willing to answer questions and is a super nice person. exams were very difficult, but the weekly quizzes were weighted more than the 3 exams combined, and you get two attempts on the quizzes. if u do well on those you'll be fine.
Amazing!!!! Weekly quizzes are worth more than exams, and you get two attempts on them! Extra credit offered multiple times! 2 major assignments that are very easy "gimme points". You can tell he wants his students to succeed and makes lectures super fun! 10/10 recommend!
Quizzes (given two attempts) are weighed heavier than exams, which helps sm! I barely attended class, but I still did well in the class. As long as you study the slides and quiz questions, you should be fine for the exam. There are long responses but imo, they're easier than the mc.
Professor Parker was good and a pretty easy professor. You honestly don't need to show up for class, just read the lecture slides to prepare for quizzes and exams. Quizzes have two attempts and exams are pretty easy. Lots of extra credit too.
weekly quizzes on lockdown you get 2 attempts (50% of final grade). 3 exams all noncumulative also all on lockdown. he is very passionate about what he does and is very helpful and approachable if you have questions or need help! make sure you really study and understand material before exams. if so its pretty easy to get an A
Mr. Parker is very passionate about what he teaches and is overall a very nice professor. His course is pretty test heavy, as there are 3 exams and weekly quizzes (all very manageable if you study though). He lectures every class aside for the occasional case study (which you can do with a partner). For my first semester, this was a great class!
Great prof. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but I went to every class because I enjoyed the content and the way that he taught. He def wants you to do well and offers a little bit of extra credit. He does grade the few open ended questions on the exam pretty harshly, you have to answer in the exact way that he wants, but theres only a few.
Very laidback class. Textbook is there, but isn't mandatory. Weekly quizzes, but the answers can be easily found in his slideshows that are well organized and easy to read. The tests include questions from the weekly quizzes and short answers. He will even provide real life job advice for working in the Bio field too, even from his own experiences!
Loved this guy and his class. You do NOT need to attend lecture to get an A, but he's a passionate and engaging lecturer. Exams and quizzes are super easy if you review the slides. There are two case studies you need to attend class for but they are easy. Quizzes and exams are online and you have a week to complete them. Offers LOTS of extra credit
Quizzes every week on Respondus lockdown, I would think I knew the info but wouldn't do well on quizzes or exams. Boring lectures. Nice guy, cares about students. Tests were graded hard.
he's amazing, offers 2 attempts for quizzes+allows u to go back and see what u got wrong the first quiz test and quizzes are taken online+proctored. he opens tests on fri makes it due 11:59pm on sun. has lots extra credit assignments+at the end of the semester you can get 2 whole points added to your final grade, quizzes are worth more than test
He is the best professor ever! Definitely take his class if you get the chance. His lectures are super interesting and the tests and assignments are very easy. He is also just a super chill and funny guy.
Mickey was a good teacher and his classes were very lecture-heavy. They were interesting but I got bored at times. Definitely take him if you need to take ecology and don't want to take a super hard class. I found his material to be manageable and his weekly homework quizzes were forgiving and an easy way to boost your grade. I learned a lot!
took for 102 + 301. made the classes fun, very passionate about his work. Take home exams on lockdown with open ended questions but not too hard. highly suggest
Parker is extremely picky with open ended exam questions, got a 45 on my first exam because I did not explain my answers enough (it asked for 3 sentences and I gave 4-5). Makes this class difficult for no reason, especially since it's a major required class and pre-requisite for other classes, not something being taken by choice.
Good professor and caring, but this class is much more difficult than I see a lot of the people on here giving it credit for. Don't go in expecting something easy.
I haven't seen much about how difficult his exam short answer can be. This class was great but it was difficult. If you take him, make sure you know what youre in for. It's tough, you can do it just focus on the vocabulary and application. the short answer was hard!
Probably the easiest biology class I will take. His classes aren't mandatory, but I would recommend going just to learn the material for the online quiz and exams with lockdown browser. Very very little things graded throughout the semester and quizzes are weighted heavier than exams.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but the lectures definitely help with online quizzes. Strongly suggest getting the textbook for extra studying, but you can completely get by without it. Overall a great course and great professor.
Such a great professor! He really likes what he teaches and is very approachable. Offers 2% extra credit. Tests are not hard as long as you study for them. Quizzes have two attempts (with same questions) and are overall worth more than test. Wish I could take him again!
This class for me was horribly boring but he did his best to make it interesting. One quiz per unit that is online and you get 2 attempts, 3 in class assignments, 3 exams. Final isn't cumulative, but everything is on lockdown browser. Attendance wasn't mandatory and honesty wasn't necessary, but overall he really tried and was super nice.
Great lecturer, very passionate. 9 quizzes, 2-attempts each. 3 exams; multiplechoice, matching, short answer, and extra credit. Kinda grades short answer harshly. 1 Project that is an easy A. 4 extra credit assignments, that will add 2% total to grade. If you're passionate about bio, he's a really good lecturer, and not too much studying is needed.
Mickey Parker is one of the best Bio 102 teachers money can buy. He was a super chill and knowledgable professor. I am still waiting for the final to be graded, but I believe I have an A in this class. His grading scale is the best you will ever get, his projects are simple and getting taught by him is extremely beneficial. 5/5!
Mickey was a great teacher! 3 exams for the class, 9 quizzes that have 2 attempts each. AI project worth 10% of the whole grade. Overall I didn't do as amazing as I'd like to on exams but still got an A! I would def take him again, he made bio enjoyable.
Grades were made up of 3 exams (including the final which is not cumulative), 9 quizzes that were weekly that you have two attempts on, and a project where you find faults in a ChatGPT essay. You can earn 2% from extra credit as well. Easy A but a lot of memorization and overall pretty boring if you don't engage.
I liked Dr Parker, but this class is more difficult than people are expressing it is. The quizzes and extra credit he offers really helps boost your grade, but tests can be hard if you don't prepare enough in advance. Dr Parker is really nice and wants to help you, but sometimes I felt nervous to ask for help. Overall, I recommend his class!
he was great for bio 102 the only thing is there are a lot of material to memorize but overall its not hard and he reuses quiz questions on the test
He is so sweet and very flexible! If you go to class you will easily succeed.
Professor Mickey is awesome. Taking his class has been a great decision. His lectures are pretty easy to understand and well paced. There are deadlines on the quizzes due every Sunday but I have turned in a couple a day late and not been penalized yet. He's also a great dude and makes lectures enjoyable. Would definitely recommend
Really friendly, attendance isn't mandatory, slides are always posted, and easy weekly quizzes boost your grade a lot so you don't have to attend class to do ok. HOWEVER, his tests are extremely difficult and unclear, especially the short answer. Nice guy, awful tests and unclear exam grading system. Not terrible.
EXTREMELY HARD TEST GRADER. I have never ever received anything below an A in every bio class, except for his. I studied for weeks for his exams. half of his exam grades are free response which he grades ridiculously tough. genuinely I cannot explain in enough detail how hard he grades I feel like I'm going insane!!!!!
I do not know why this guy has such a high rating. super duper hard exams and grades them terribly. free response questions are graded so harshly. he makes it extremely easy to fail your exams.
He's a very nice guy, but he pretty much reads from the powerpoint every class then grades VERY harshly. His exams are multiple choice & short answer. In the short answer he is looking for a very specific answer that you just have to figure out. Weekly quizzes 60% of grade, but you get 2 chances so they're not bad. MCQ are entirely previous quiz Qs
Confused why his rate my professor is so high because he's not kind or a very good teacher. He actually grades harder than any bio professor I've ever had. The weekly quizzes are helpful for your grades but the exams are very difficult and he only takes specific answers. I lowk have left his class crying before so take at your own risk!
So caring about you actually becomes a better student. IS always available for office hours and is very passionate about what he teaches. He will not make you feel stupid.
He is such a passionate professor and knows what he's talking about. Lectures are long, but beneficial for getting a good grade. Exams are pretty difficult, specifically the short answers. However, most multiple choice on the test are just reused quiz questions. The quizzes get two attempts which is helpful. Overall, I definitely recommend!
I definitely recommend taking him if you can! He's passionate about his lectures, is very helpful, and wants you to do well! Class has 3 exams and worth 40% of your grade, quizzes each week are worth 50%, and 3 in class assignments throughout the semester are worth 10%. Exams are overall not too difficult, as long as you go to class.
Honestly, I have taken multiple higher-level bios and Parker's 301 is so difficult. The tests can be tricky and he is just not my favorite lecturer.
EASY. Take him as your BIO 301 professor, not anyone else. Easy A.
Dr. Parker is very knowledgeable and readily shares his own experience and work in ecological research! The class is very manageable and in FA25 comprised of 3 major exams, weekly quizzes, and 3 in-class activities. Weekly quizzes have two attempts and are monitored by Respondus. Ditto exams with 1 attempt. More difficult but doable with studying.
Dr. Parker was amazing and really wants his students to do well. 2% of extra credit is offered. Quizzes once a week but you can take them twice and its the same questions, worth 50% of your grade which is nice and are worth more then exams. If you try in this class you will do well. I will be taking him again for Bio 301!
Had him for 102 and 301, absolutely amazing and I hope I can get him again. A lot of people say he's a tough grader but he gives MOUNTAINS of study material and also weighted the quizzes (that you can take twice) higher than the exams. Also he puts multi-choice questions from those quizzes on the exams. There's no reason anyone should fail here
Run. Genuinely has the strangest grading policy ive ever seen. I compared tests with my friend, and she put an answer to an essay question with the same content as mine, just diff wording and received full credit, while I did not. She is also very much a discussion person while I am not, so I call favoritism. His study guides did NOT match test!
spawn of satan
Context is needed: I dropped 301 with Dr.Franklin last year and took Parker this year. I was a freshman who did not understand that Dr.Franklin was teaching it easy, while Parker is difficult. Franklin's MC exams were hard or so I throught until walking into Parker's class. Do not take this man esp if you are a bed writer!
Trust me when I tell you, if you actually want to learn this class is not for you. I took Parker last year spring semester. I never write these reviews but after finishing a bio class with 301 as the prerequisite, I realized how insufficient Parker's teaching methods were. Take Dr. Franklin if you can! He is an amazing prof and teaches 301!
Was not a fan of his tests esp when seeing what other 301 tests looked like. Prof Neely or Prof Franklin are the two best for this class, go with them instead if you want this class to be easier. Parker is also always on a power trip and needs his ego to go down a few pegs
He was not a bad prof, based on the reviews someone obviously was not a fan lol. Pretty average for the level of this class.
