Great teacher. His lectures clarify all of the difficult concepts in the text. The class is not easy, but if you study, do the homework (which he does not collect)and take notes in class you should do fine. Also hes a nice guy and occasionally interjects humor into the lectures (not that chem is that funny, but what can you expect?)
He's a very cool instructor, always ready to help. He grades easily too. I admire him
What a great teacher he is!! Easy grading, easy lecture and no homework collecting. Autonomy of study
Good teacher. Clarifys everything
fair in grading, sometimes not very clear on lectures, but tries hard to make sure everybody understands the materials, his tests are sometimes tricky although chem is very interesting.
this class was very tough! probably the worst class i ever took and i really enjoyed chemm until i took this class. he made me give up in chemistry!
teacher is ok...this class is very hard, be perpared to do alot of work and assignments.
As a matter of fact, there are no hard assignments... the HW is not alot and he collects them the date of the test! I don't know why lazy fat butts do not allow people to view this class as a learning course...
not recommended
This class is not easy, but if you put in the effort you can pass this class with an A or B. His lectures are straightforeward. I only really opened the book to do the HW, which is due the day of the tests. He answers any questions you have. Lab is fun and you mostly get to work in partners. GREAT CLASS!
OK, first of all Jimenez is a cool guy. Someone I'd chill with outside of class even. He makes the class less intimidating and easy to understand. As long as you come to class and ask questions during and after class, you'll be fine. Main point is he teaches everything you need to know, so DO NOT get lazy and whine that it's hard.
He is a cool teacher and wants everyone to learn. He will make you work for the A but it is worth it becuase you will learn a lot. Be prepared to work, study and learn
Jimenez is a really cool proffessor...he gives his students lots of options and he explains things as simple as possible which is really helpful if you know nothing at all about the subject. Overall you do need to put in some work on your part but he makes it easier on you. Took him fr winter session and I did not use to book at all.
Great teacher if you want to learn chem. People who take chem 4 want to take him again for chem 1a. Chemistry itself is not easy. All u gotta do is study and youll be fine.
this professor is very chill and cool. he will make chemistry interesting and will try to find ways to make the material easier. he is very lenient. although at times when you ask him a question he may be pretty shy to respond, overall he is a good professor. i learned a lot from taking his class during summer.
Mr. Jimenez has a reputation of being a hard teacher, but he has the students' best interests at heart. I took his chem 4 and got an A, and am now in Chem 1A with him. Since I have a strong chem 4 backround-thanks to Jimenez-I am in contention for the best grade in the class, whereas many other students that took other teachers are struggling.
Okay. Compared to all the other Science teachers, he's a much better choice. But he is very bias in the way he teaches! FAVORATISM towards the smarter students! He's a nice guy but the way he teaches can be very upseting becasue the students that need help, he tends to ignore. I wouldn't take him again
Professor Jimenez is a great professor. What I learned, though, is you need to come to class. Get his notes (which are very helpful for the tests) and study them. Work out problems and remember to do all the homework. His test questions are pretty consistent with the homework he gives out. A very fair grader. I'd definitely take him again.
OMG! Hes sucha great teacher. I wish I could take 1B with him as well. Hes alot better than other old professors who doesn't wanna help u. You ask him a question He'll definitely help u out.I LOVE his personality. hes always calm. Hes shy sometimes when talking to the girls lol:) I was kinda worrying but he always helped calming me down one word
He is a really good teacher. He made me like chemistry more especially organic. This isnt an easy class but he tries to make it understandle and makes chemistry fun :)
He's a really cool professor. Funny, very knowledgable and helpful. However, I find him to be unclear a lot of the times. His explanations of the material tend to be a little all over the place. Also, his exams are impossible! He tries to trick you and I do not feel that he adequately prepares his students for the level of difficulty of the exams.
Ok, seriously.. where does he even get his exam questions from?? It seems like he gets a serious kick out of watching his students struggle during his exams. AVOID HIS CLASS. He will make you hate your life and chemistry! Take someone else! You can NOT study enough to prepare for his exams.
Thanks Jimenez for my strong base in ochem
He is a good teacher but he lacks social ques. Needs to be more clear on how he explains the material.
excellent, very helpful, and nice. grades fairly, although tests are difficult. Be prepared to study study study!
He is extremely helpful and passionate about chemistry. You can tell he cares and wants his students to understand the material. The difference between him and "easier" teachers is that he prepares you for transferring to a University and really wants you to feel prepared once you get there
He is a wonderful professor. The materials may be kind of hard for some people not majoring in chemistry. But he cares about students a lot and will make sure that you are prepared for 4-year college. Lab report are easy if you follow instructions in the report but doing the labs are challenging. Highly recommended.
Great professor. He might seem like he doesn't care, but he does. It's Ochem, it's supposed to be hard, but all his exams are fair and if you aren't doing well, that's your fault for not studying enough.
DON'T TAKE IT. Save yourself from a bad semester of unclear information
Chemistry is a hard subj but Mr. Jimenez makes it so much easier to understand! He is so passionate about chem and even more passionate about making sure everyone succeeds! There's no mandatory hw, only 4 exams and labs. So you must study study study study!! Out of all the professors I have taken at elco, he's probably the best. Take him!!!
I'm currently taking this class. HW is not required nor is textbook, although if you'd like an A you need the textbook. Some cons: he tends to help out the students who do well in the class more often than the rest.. Expects you to spend your whole day studying the little details, not thinking about your other classes or jobs..don't recommend
Dont waste your time with this class, take another professor. His tests are extremely hard, he talks down to others and makes you feel stupid. He doesn't offer any EC.
Professor Jimenez is a good instructor and he cares about his students. Reviewing the class notes and doing the optional home work assignments will help you prepare for his tests.
He's good. He's big on conceptual thinking. Study hard and know how to solve problems inside and out and forward and backward. He is not a plug-and-chug instructor. He PREPARES you for the next level of chemistry. If you UNDERSTAND the material, you will be fine on the tests.
One word: PRACTICE! Practice all the example problems in the Introductory to Chemistry textbook and you will be fine on the test, I promise! People want a teacher to teach them everything, but you are not going to get it with this guy. He teaches well, but he will test you're level of understanding on the exams. KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING ON TESTS!
If you plan on taking Chem 1A, or any higher-level chemistry course, TAKE HIM! He really wants to prepare his students for the next level of chemistry. He emphasizes how "easy" Chem 4 is compared to chem 1A, so if you don't do well in this class, you will suffer in the next level. Take him, though! He is so chill.
gives homework that comes out of the textbook, he is not helpful but is also very confusing at the same time, he has a very akward lisp that makes it difficult to understand, one minute he will be talking normal and the next minute he will talk as if he has peanut butter stuck to his mouth, also gets off topic every other day, don't recommend him.
If you are not serious about chem and do need any higher-level chemistry, do not take his class. Otherwise, take his class. Chem 4 is beginning level but he will up the difficulty, but only for YORU advancement. He teaches well and is always available. Take him if you're going to higher-level chemistry classes. Study, study.
Just about finished up with this class with Dr. Jimenez. He will have you working but don't step away from the challenge. Easily one of the hardest chem professors. He wants to prepare folks for what is to come and that is upper-level chemistry. Just study and you will be fine.
I took him for Chem 4 and he is by far one of the most caring professors I have met. He gives you a solid foundation in Chemistry and expects you to put in time and effort to learn the material. You will get the grade you earned. Study daily! ATTEND OFFICE HOURS!
he is good, but hard. He can be a little boring at times but he tries to throw in jokes every now and then. He's himself when he lectures. His personality is good but tests can be pretty difficult. Like someone said, he talks about how easy chem 4 is. I'm sure if you take him and do well (try to get an A) you will be over prepared for Chem 1A.
Don't expect to have a good time in this class. I've never had a good time in chem but I definitely feel well prepared for chemistry 1A. He was so hard, I would stress over his class. It almost drove me crazy! I would study so much and never felt like I knew enough for the exams. If you put in a lot of work you will be fine on tests. They're hard!
Handsome man, but challenging.
Professor Jimenez is passionate about chemistry and his students, however you too have to be passionate about chemistry if you want to pass. Study hard and put lots of time into his class. He recommends that you put in twenty hours a week for his class. His exams are difficult and labs can be long and tedious.
My experience in his class wasn't that bad. He's really chill and you can always turn in things later if you ask. His lectures are decent and not that hard to understand. He will usually email the PowerPoints. Make sure to do the hw because he doesn't give any study guides for the tests. The hw really helped me to review for them
I think he explains things perfectly well you just have to listen! Study good, his test aren't easy, but they aren't hard neither if you do your homework and study it. He gives out worksheets too! He's a serious guy doesnt really tell jokes or laughs a lot but he does teach thoroughly. A little more practice during class would be good I suppose
I took the class during the summer. 5hours mon through thurs. It was pretty tough summer. In overall, the class wasn't bad. He cares about the class and his students, the only thing I didn't like was down energy was going on. He seemed not having fun in his life. he looks a little impatient when you ask many questions.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! I don't usually rate professors but I have to warn other students about this professor. He doesn't care or help students. He gives a lot of homework and worksheets but they do not help on the exam. He expects you to know everything there is to know about chemistry even if you've never taken a chemistry class before.
Don't expect to easily pass his class. He gave out 4 exams and one final. No extra credit. His class is confusing at times...
Professor Jimenez is probably the best choice for chem-4 at El Camino. Every day before class he answers questions and helps students. But with him, you'll know when he thinks the questions you ask are stupid. Social Ques need a little work, but he's a good teacher and makes the material easy to learn. Tests are based off worksheets/powerpoints.
I enjoyed having Dr Jimenez as my professor. He was very helpful and answered emails quickly. DO your hw! Hw only took me 30 min/week in the beginning and 2hrs/week towards the end. Which left me the rest of the week to go over notes and prepare for the exams. I got C's on all my exams, but the hw bumped me to a B. Good luck!
Winter: don't the book, only buy the online access code. It was a difficult class (duh, it's chemistry) but very fair. The tests were on what he taught. He is intimidating, often makes you feel stupid, and isn't very specific when answering questions. Can be nice at times. Put in the time and effort to study, show up and do HW and you will do well!
Beware! Hes very unapproachable and expects you to know the material as if though you just left high school. Hes available before class, but his unapproachable demeanor makes it difficult to seek additional help from him.
The exams were not that hard, but not that easy. He cares for his students and his lectures are great and right in the point. The best Chemistry Professor that i had so far.
I recommend reading the textbook or watching YouTube videos for studying. It's critical to do well on exams because they are worth a lot. Homework is not mandatory, but you should do them since majority of the test questions are from there. If you need help, ask him. He may seem unapproachable; however, it's worth it.
Professor Jimenez's class isn't the easiest class, but it's not the hardest class either. As long as you go over the notes he gives you in class, ask questions, and do the homework you are guaranteed to pass. His tests aren't the easiest, but he does review questions before the tests. He is also not the nicest person, but if you try he's nice.
Jimenez seems like a good chemist. Only thing he doesn't know about Chem is how to teach it. He teaches off of PowerPoint, and flips through slides without effectively explaining the material. He really doesn't seem to enjoy his job, and he is a really unapproachable guy. If you take this class start Khan Academy right away, or you'll be at a loss
Jimenez is nice, however his class is ridiculously hard. He does NOT review before the test and his multiple choice will probably be the one thing that brings down your grade. Really to pass this class you have to go on khan academy, do the recommended homework in the book and see him everyday after his 3 hour lectures. Labs are harshly graded.
Chem can be a tough subject, but Professor Jimenez makes his lectures available online in the modules, along with worksheets and other youtube videos. I actually think he cares about the students and would like to see them succeed. A combination of his lectures, the labs, reading out of the book, and studying really helps!
Dr. Jimenez is a professional. He is straightforward and has high expectations. Chemistry is a demanding subject and Professor Jimenez expects a lot from the students. The grading criteria is clear and he will answer your questions, so ask. Don't expect this class to be easy, but if you put in the time, you can do really well.
Took his hybrid class. Lectured over the upcoming chapter, then lab. Very thorough in his lectures (all powerpoint) and are all up online for review. I used the textbook only in the beginning chapters. Do his practice hw & exams to help prepare yourself! Accessible for help if needed.
Professor Jimenez is not that good of an instructor. He wasn't terrible, but not good. The powerpoints were basically him just reading it except for a few times he explained it. His class was hard for me. Good luck if you take it! Also, I took the hybrid over the summer, so it was much more difficult.
Took his hybrid class over the summer. 3 exams and a final. No quizzes but a decent amount of homework. Grading is very fair and gives a lot of partial credit. Lectures can be a bit boring but helpful. Study the notes instead of the textbook. You obviously need to study to do well in the class. Easier than other chem professors
He moves through content pretty quickly, but makes time during class to review the content so no one is confused. He's really clear and explains things very well and provides lecture notes. Still take notes while he lectures and write down the example problems he does. He prepares you for CHEM1A; You MUST study weekly and memorize a lot to pass!
Took him over the winter. Hes not the worst teacher but definitely makes you work for your grade. He also gives you a lot of partial credit on exams which never hurts. Labs are cool as long as you know what youre doing and pay attention.
Although Mr. Jimenez may not put on a friendly face, he does care about his class. He puts in the effort to make sure he offers good education to his students. If u are serious about learning, on top of your homework, review his notes & u will do fine. He is good in responding quickly to email. Set any intimidation aside, ask ?s & have fun.
Make sure you memorize the packet he asks you to memorize, it will help a lot. Each test get harder harder, so its best to start memorizing early
He provides lectures and although textbook is recommended, you won't need it to pass the class. There's enough lab assignments and HW offered to get some points but the majority of your grade is test heavy. He was pretty lenient about due dates and allowed students time to catch up but it would benefit you to get work done as early as possible..
Don't even bother by choosing him as your professor. He does not know how to explain the material. Class consists on already recorded lectures, exam heavy and lab heavy. Please, choose someone else.
I'm sure he is a great professor, but he is not suitable for online teaching. Not easily accessible and has no sympathy for the current situation we are all in. I would not recommend taking this class if you are already not comfortable with Chemistry. We were only graded on online labs and the tests we had, I believe there are only 3 for the fall.
took this class online due to covid. There are no required zooms, pre recorded lectures, basically you teach yourself ALOT. Homework might prepare you for tests but there are only 3 tests the whole year that determine your grade, 25% each test, the rest labs. great guy, doesn't teach a lot, so if you can teach yourself online chem, chill class
professor jimenez was very available during zoom and tutored each student individually. his lectures are pretty clear you just have to sit there and watch all of them. if you take good notes and organize yourself you will pass. he lets you use notes and books for exams. not live proctored. very very fast paced, took during the winter
3 exams make up 80% of your grade (2 are 25% and 1 is 30%) and labs make up your other 20%, nothing else, no homework is collected. So much pressure riding on those three exams and they're proctored so you can't cheat. As far as his lectures go, he's monotone and boring. Also, he messed up my registration for my next class by not releasing grades.
has no patience, and makes you feel dumb and in a very sarcastic way
Professor Jimenez is a great professor, his lectures are well organized and incorporates quizzes to insure you have a clear understanding prior to doing the hw assignments and labs. He allows "cheat sheet" for all exams and during the week he hosts zoom meetings for clarification and incorporates a (7pg) Memorization Package for exams.
Most students were afraid to ask questions due to how rude he is. He tries to help but he has such a rude personality and no humor you will never see him smile. He says he is hard on his students because he wants them to learn. If you are a sensitive person do not take him. He does not respond to emails you just have to ask questions after class.
I took his class online Fall 2021. I ended up with a 97% overall grade without reading the book and turning in late lecture videos. His lecture videos are all you need to get an A on the tests, so take really good notes, draw it if you have to. He also gives you a cheat sheet for the exams, making it easier to get an A. If hes still online take him
Took this course Summer 22' and my advice for this class is go to tutoring and take advantage of the cheat sheet the professor allows during the exam! Yes this course is very difficult however Professor Jimenez does a great job in providing study guides + video lectures that better explain the material & gives two opportunities to turn late in labs
Prof Jimenez was a very good professor and definitely knows his stuff. I can see what students mean by him being "mean" but honestly those are the students that take things too personally and need to suck it up. He taught me a lot in this class. Just be prepared to study and ask questions! You'll do great if you take good notes.
Professor Jimenez is the definition of a "learn it yourself" instructor, he gives no positive feedback. You have to rely on your fellow classmates or yourself to learn the material. The labs were fun and the lectures were long but to the point. If you are someone who struggles in science then I suggest you go to the SI sessions or tutoring.
It's a difficult class but it's doable. Professor Jimenez can come across as cold, but he really wants you to succeed, he's just not gonna be lenient. The lectures are very thorough and he provides the slides so that you can take notes easily. It is a hybrid class, so you will be teaching yourself a bit, so go to office hours and SI tutoring.
Professor Jimenez class is really manageable if you study and watch the lectures, I was able to understand everything. He is well prepared and organized, take him.
Overall his lectures were very clear to understand which was good because he was a very hands off prof. He can come across as intimidating but all the material was straightforward and he is willing to help you in class. I recommend going to SI sessions to help get more practice because it really helped. Exams were easy and mostly MC.
Professor Jimenez is stand-offish and he is blunt. However, he will help you with questions and his material is straightforward. Advice would be to go to the Si sessions and do the work. Exams are mostly MC and will mainly be based on his lectures. Basically staying on top of your work will get you the grade.
I would warn everyone not to take this class. Miguel is very rude, he humiliates students if you ask questions and he makes the class a very hostile environment overall. He OVERWORKS students for example he has you do an exam on campus and then a lab right after. The class was hybrid, exams should have been done at home and labs on campus.
cons: a bit of a temper. Theres a lot of homework and videos to watch. Pros: Those homeworks and videos DO cover most if not all that is expected in exams. He is caring as he spends a lot of time making those videos/ and having a tutor available; fair grading. Resources are abundant if you make time to meet or use them to advance, library tutoring.
Professor Jimenez was straight forward about what was needed to be successful in this course. The class consisted of pre recorded lectures, pearson HW, and four exams. The lectures were heavy but only because he made sure to explain everything thoroughly. As long as you studied the lectures, the exams were a breeze.
Great Professor! Was hybrid course so long lecture videos. Study and go to tutoring and you will do good in the class. Took him in 5 weeks winter session and it was a lot but doable. Just manage your time.
Man gave me a lot of ptsd more than anyone I know. Got no words for this man, just avoid at all cost.
He is kind of mean but gives you the necessary materials to pass. His exams were based on his lectures and although he is mean he likes what he teaches but kind of expects others to know in the first try. So if you are sensitive and know you'd need help in chemistry he is definitely not the person to take.
You need thick skin to take his class. Do ALL the practice homework and watch his lectures. It's imperative to keep up and take LOTS of notes. He gives you all the tools to pass, but recommend tutors in the library. He is not approachable, but again watch his videos. Personality-1; Study materials to get a good grade--5.
I would rate Jimenez a 4.5 Even though he's not the best at answering questions during class. He can be considerate and lenient if you communicate or show up to his office hours. He gives very detailed lectures. Everything on the exams is based of his lectures. His workload is a lot so be organized!!! ALL his material prepares you for the exams.
Great professor, his personality is fine. All that mattered was that I learned and I did ! His workload is tough but the material he assigns is meant for you to understand each chapter and succeed on the exams. BE ORGANIZED in this class !! His practice exams are pretty identical to the exams, you HAVE to put in the work though. Form a lab buddy
He was a great professor in my opinion. His lectures are very informative and on point on what you'll learn. His Pearson hw isn't to difficult either and his test are very simple!!
This is probably the 6th chemistry class I have taken. I had to retake this class due to recency requirements and I can easily say, this was the most fair and straightforward science class I have taken. I chose to take the Saturday class, which was a great decision. If you watch the lectures and do the homework, there is NO REASON not to earn an A.
not the type of professor that you can chit chat with, but he gives you the tools you need to learn the material. The homework worksheets are more for your own practice, and aren't graded. You do have homework for every chapter on Pearson, those can be annoying and repetitive but they help you learn the material. He gives practice exams.
If you are looking for a class with limited homework and lab time, this is not for you. I had him for a hybrid class. His lectures are quite long but he goes over things enough for you to grasp the subject and there is a ton of homework but it helps you learn so much. He goes over lab for a few mins ensuring you can do it on your own or w/someone.
If you are someone who is not the best with science I would not take this class. He creates a learning environment that is not welcoming and is not very approachable. I dropped this class because of how hard it was and how unapproachable he is. Definitely not a fun class.
he started off by saying we wont pass that affected me because i ended up dropping the class later because eveything was super challenging. Even for a full time student that dosnt work(me) its difficult. He hates when you ask questions and will give you attitude and not answer it.I never had to drop a class before till i had him RUN DON'T TAKE!
If you're a sensitive being, do not take Dr.Jimenez. However, if you're someone who knows how to put your feelings aside like an adult then you'll do just fine. He is a great professor who is willing to help. He is blunt but still helps you because that's his job! His mock up exam is almost identical to the real one. His hwk provides a lot of help.
He's objectively a pretty good professor. He's very blunt, which to some may come off as mean or uncaring. But he actually does care, and does his job very well. I personally just couldn't dedicate the 15 hours a week it needed to succeed, and struggled with his lectures being online. But in person he's great and explains things very well.
You have to dedicate A LOT of time at home to watch his lecture videos. He does not teach in class, you must watch his 2-3 hour lectures online and then do about 1-2 hours of homework afterwards. I do not recommend him. I do think it is doable to pass the class BUT it is a lot of work. I personally would have prefered in person lectures
Took him in the spring as a prereq easily one of the worst experiences. The class started with 36 students and dropped to just 5 before I withdrew. There are 4 exams and a lab every class. He grades harshly, takes off points for tiny mistakes, and is not approachable. He even starts by saying it's difficult. Do yourself a favor and avoid him. pls
I regret ignoring the reviews. He starts class by saying most of us will fail and kicks out waitlisted students. People say he's just blunt and to put your feelings aside, lol, but the truth is, he's a horrible teacher. He gets annoyed when you ask questions. Even if you follow his videos, it's still wrong. Now, I'm set back a year. RUN.
The professor does not teach the lectures in class and expects you to know the knowledge without his help. When asking a question, he dismisses the question you asked and doesn't bother to explain the topic to your understanding. I would not recommend this class to anyone.
I took this in the summer & he was not bad! He is intimidating, but you could tell he cares. If you ask him questions, he explains well! Labs have to be turned in by the end of class. He also gives a decent amount of homework, but I liked this because it def helped balance my grade with the tests. I also loved that he gave practice tests, take him!
This Professor is one of the WORST do not take him unless you want to fail or overwork yourself until you crash out. 4 hour lectures and 3 hour homeworks are insane. His practice test do not help. If you ask a question to him he will get annoyed and not want to help. If you ask your classmates he still gets annoyed. Not worth even a try..
Liked this class but wow, the stress! If ur someone who needs extra support, this is not the prof for u. He is very matter-of-fact & has high expectations. Saying that, he does give u everything u need to succeed. Keep in mind this is a hybrid class so expect online lectures. I got an A spending 12+ hrs studying /week. + he gave extra credit!
I was a bit worried about taking this class based off the reviews. I'm glad I did not let that discourage me because I actually learned something in his class. His online lectures are very helpful. Beware they are 2-3 hrs long so be prepared to give up 12-15 hrs a week of studying .Overall I thought he was a good professor. I would take him again.
