A real pain...doesn't explain anything clearly
i love lechuga--he has a sincere passion for teaching and really enjoys it. also, hes fun--he jokes around, takes us to the computer lab, talks with us--and he has good taste in clothes.
He should be fired because his teaching ethics are horrible,he makes a fool out of himself while he puts down students, it just goes to show that he has a low self-esteem. Dean if you are reading this, fire him! His karma is bad.
I do not this he is a good teacher at all! One I can not understand him and two he just can't teach.
If you wanna learn. Go there if not, don't bother
The best teacher I have this summer. Coool and helpful.
The best teacher I ever had. I learned more in one month than in the last 2 semesters. Great
Today was a great class. Thanks
actual work was easy if you already know spanish well, otherwise he cant explain things clearly AT ALL. EXTREMELY biased, picks faves, bases grades on who he likes.unwilling to help afterclass, constantly puts down students & tries to make them inferior
I finished with an A. Thanks Sr. Lechuga
He is great and fun. I like his videos and music
He is such a bad teacher. He makes fun of people and Ive seen him really hurt some peoples feelings. He cant teach at all...he expects you to read the book and get everything. He doesnt explain things very clear at all.I wouldnt take his class again.
He is such a god teacher. I learned in one week more than in one year in my H.S. People who talk badly about him is because are lazy. Bad people.
HE KNOWS SO MUCH. HE IS GOOD. SOMEBODY TOLD ME HE WAS MEAN, JUST THE CONTRARY. HE IS COOL.
Today the computers were very helpfull. Thanks
I guess he makes it more difficult than it actually is. His grading system is more screwed up than a football bat. My final grade was an A and none of my tests were above a 89.
I am a male student and I have no problem with him. The intimidation you talked is B/S. and you know it. Be fair. He is good.

I don't know what the heck he was teaching in my class, he taught all of my class as if we all knew spanish! Honestly, this guy is only good to make you go crazy, i am a honor student, who has always been an A student, and hardworking is my job, but to put up with him was too much!
He is a demanding professor who expects his students to do a lot of work but, in the end all of that hard work pays off. I learned a lot from him. At times I questioned why we were doing something, in the end I understood that everything we did helped me understand the spanish language and culture.
Lots of work! But you LEARN a lot. He can be a tough cookie, but it is worth it!! You will walk away from his class knowing espanol~ :) Plus, going out to eat for class was muy bueno!! adios...
Together can we say "loco en la cabeza",he is very ambiguous and keeps u wondering throughout the whole semester. I agree, i practically got d's and F's on my tests and quizes and got an a. (Go figure)!
first of all im not sure how he does his grading scale. He's not very clear on what your supposed to do (hoohum my syllabus was just wasted paper). If your taking his class be prepared for a roller coaster ride.
If you come to class and if you talk to him, He is very helpful. If you try to mess with him...good luck! Be honest and He would help you, He is a great teacher! I had him for four semesters!
I took 101 from him like 2 years ago and I'm still confused by what went down. Very unclear, just gives you a grade at the end, creepy guy... avoid.
I think this teacher is very awesome. He helped me out a lot. he makes the class interesting. I hated Spanish before and then i felt comfortable with the class and myself. he is a very good teacher and i had a lot of fun in his class. I would advice you to get this class. Period
If you come to class and REALLY pay attention in class and read your textbook and do ALL of the assignments he gives you, then you should be fine. You should expect the unexpected in his class. He's holmes! But he'll make your work but it all pays off in the end.
If at all possible, avoid taking any classes with Lechuga. Professor Lechuga will not explain anything (he thinks all his students speak fluent Spanish), his grading scale makes no sense, and he has a tendancy to get basic facts wrong. If you are unlucky enough to get stuck in his class, don't bother arguing about the random grades he gives.
Last reviewer obviously doesn't like classes where effort is required. Lechuga's class is difficult but he is more than willing to help anyone who asks. His teaching style is usually pretty clear and I never liked Spanish until I took his class.
Very rude, very annoying, is going to make you suffer for sure.
I speak spanish, lucky for me. Lechuga does not teach, scribbles a few words on the board and expects you to understand. He is mean and extremely rude. Expects EVERYONE to be fluent. Not sure how he can expect this when he does not teach. Calls people out on mistakes making them feel stupid, but he makes more than anyone. AVOID AVOID if you can!!!!

The negative comments about him are ridiculus. The class was very easy, requiring little work, and he curves generously. He is clever and helpful, although he can seem a bit unapproachable. Don't listen to all the other haters. I recommend his class.
Teacher (and I use this term loosely) obviously plays favorites. Pray to god that you will be one, if not you will suffer for sure. I saw this in my class. If you are fav. plan on an A. If not, he will make up some idiotic excuse to fail you.

Very unprofessional and rude!
This man has got to go!!!!!!
Thanks, Sr. Lechuga. U R better than what they say.
will not help if you are struggling no matter how much effort is put in. this man is a waste of life in a class room. white+blond=A get your money back and buy a taco
Had him as a sub bc my teacher got sick. Went from having an A to not understanding anything just for the few weeks he was subbing. He makes rude comments & thinks its funny when students do badly. Quote from him "If you are taking my class to learn okay, if your taking this class for an easy grade, I suggest you leave". You dont learn anything!
Hard class but helps you out if you ask him

Awesome professor; helpful, sincere, and knowledgeable about how the brain adapts to learning new languages.
If you can understand the words coming out of his mouth you will do fantastic!
He is extremely rude and degrading to any person attemting to speak spanish! He makes comments to discourage his students! I cannot believe the anxiety I experienced before stepping into his classroom...an attitude adjustment is needed desperately! I made it through, and if you are a good self teacher and confident you'll be "okay"
Cannot understand any words that come out of his mouth..Skits and Compositions are easy but tests are impossible. He is just really rude and will embarrass you in front of the class and what ever you do don't get caught looking at you cell phone!
Is very disrespectful and mean. Likes to put you on the spot in front of everyone. You can't understand a word he says and the tests and quizzes are impossible. Terrible! This class is torture to say the least.
He keeps you wondering what your grade will be, if you ask him he only says that you are doing great, even though you are receiving D's and F's on tests and quizes. My final grade one semester was an A (not sure how) and then then the next semester he gave me a C but that was because it was a summer session and I missed 4 classes. Crazzzzzzzzzzzy!
OMG, do not take the class. I dropped the class early on, but the only way I managed to pass tests was to engross myself in the chapters, because he barely teaches, he does not want to be there. If I could teach myself spanish I wouldn't need spanish class..but I was forced to try. AVOID!!!!!
This guy is absolutely horrible. He makes this course harder than it is. His quizzes are nearly impossible. He is very useless to ask after class. 75% of the classes, he is very unclear with directions. He also procrastinate with emails and does it in the last minute. I hope there is another Spanish teacher that teaches 201 because he is god awful.
He is one of the toughest professors I had in Germmanna. His quizzes are nearly impossible but the other things are not very difficult. Sometimes he does makes this class fun. Sometimes I could not understand him but most of the time he is clear. He does give a random grade. Overall, hes not that bad, you'll get used to him in the near future.

Awesome professor; helpful, sincere, and knowledgeable about how the brain adapts to learning new languages. Great Teacher, I learned more in one week than in one year with my previous teachers.
Although you do end up getting used to him, he is kind of off the wall. He's a native speaker so he is sometimes hard to understand. He doesn't spend a lot of time going over new information, so it's important that you study on your own.One good thing is that if you get on his good side he's more leanient on you about late work and grades.
He is very bad at explaining important material. He told us to read the last two chapters for the final, but he put stuff that we did not cover nor study for the final. When you ask a question, he gives a very unclear answer. Even if you ask for help, he won't give you help. Very bad teacher and should not be recommended.
I was apprehensive about choosing Senor Lechuga as my spanish professor. However, once I understood his personality and teaching style I thouroughly enjoyed his class. He is a native speaker-sometimes difficult to understand. He is a challenging teacher, BUT you will learn if you apply yourself. He's a cool guy in general. Practique!!
I was apprehensive about choosing Senor Lechuga as my spanish professor. However, once I understood his personality and teaching style I thouroughly enjoyed his class. He is a challenging teacher, BUT you will learn if you apply yourself. He's a cool guy in general. Go Senor Lechuga!
He is a nice guy, but is a bad teacher. Tests cover basically nothing that you cover in class and if he tells you that something will specifically be on the test or not, don't listen because he puts whatever random things he wants on it. I will say that if you do try really hard he will make sure that you pass.
Very good teacher and will help you learn spanish in the long run. However, it is a very hard class. Studying and paying attention is a must.
Okay people, back off Lechuga! If you actually want to LEARN Spanish, have a tough skin, and can deal with his accent, he is THE BEST SPANISH TEACHER. He makes things fun, and he's a native speaker, so he has a total handle on the language. He can seem mean at times, but it helps you learn. He's really nice. If he sees you're trying, you WILL PASS!
Lechuga is unclear, rude, and makes his quizzes impossible. I do not recommend taking his class.
This was my 2nd semester with Lechuga. Many people have a problem with him,(He is HARD) but he was SO helpful to me. My sister died during the semester and he personally went out of his way to help me pass the class. If you can GET OVER YOURSELF, STUDY, and actually want to LEARN, then you'll be fine. And be respectful. He pays you back in kind.
I have to add, a lot of people from his class whine because they aren't willing to study outside of class. Guess what, this is a college class; Sometimes you have to crack the book. Lechuga teaches so that you can become FLUENT. That means you have to study daily. I go to a mexican restuarant and talk to to the servers in broken spanish. It helps
Mr. Lechuga seems to be a nice man, but a terrible teacher. Gets angray at class when the class did not understand what he was saying. Assigned homework without notification and didn't give fair amount of time for other assignments. Was very unclear in his expectations.
Mr.Lechuga is a good man, but he is in fact a horrible teacher. Teaching isn't his profession. He made 4 girls cry during the semester that I had him. He yelled at a girl for not having the accent used to say a spanish word, WHO DOES THAT?! NOT teachers I can assure you! he grades weird, and yells for questions.
This teacher gave us a pop midterm.... a POP MIDTERM....not in all my years of schooling have i EVER....EVER seen such a thing... I was having trouble in the class already, but this sent me over my limit no teacher in their right mind would ever do such a thing to his or her students.... DO NOT take this professor unless you have had Spanish before
I took this class with no prior spanish experience.I have no idea why so many people are complaining about how hard he is.It's a FOREIGN LANGUAGE!Why would it be easy?I have never heard him raise his voice. He has been irritated with students not being prepared. You can't blame him for that. You have to study outside of class.Give him a break!
Do NOT take this teacher. I was a straight A student, went to class, turned in all homework and he gave me a C because I did not "Study" He constantly calls me a name in spanish that is nowhere near my real name, and is very hard to understand. Do. NOT.TAKE HIM.....You have been warned.
I have to add, a lot of people from his class whine because they aren't willing to study outside of class. Guess what, this is a college class; Sometimes you have to crack the book. He's a one of a kind professor. What can i say? hes very helpful and always has a way with words. You must pay much attention specially because of his accent. But i do recommend you to take his courses.
He is really not that hard, you just actually have to be willing to work in the class. It is a lot of homework and studying-- but you WILL learn spanish! He speaks a lot of Spanish in class... Like he should! Of course this class is difficult, but he makes it fun and you will really, truly speak the language with him. GREAT teacher. Hard subject!
I went into this class having 3 years of Spanish under my belt. 3 days into Professor Lechuga's class I had no idea what was going on. I studied, did the online homeworks, and even got a spanish app to help me with the work - point is he is very hard to understand and makes everything 10x harder - through his speech as well as the course work.
Im not good at learning languages and having Lechuga as an instructor is probably the worst that couldve happened. I do all the online homework and tests and he gave me a 720 for part of a quiz when I barely messed up. He isnt clear in his instructions, you can barely understand him, and he doesnt TEACH. He has us learn from the computers.
His class is designed for students who have spoken Spanish. I had a hard-earned 4.0 gpa; I FAILED this class. When he is in a bad mood, he assigns more homework than can be completed. He is difficult to understand (heavy accent) & becomes irritated by questions. Tutoring helped but not enough. His tests are ridiculously hard. If you are black, RUN!
He is horrible.
This Professor is hit or miss. Some days he teaches very well and other days he is in a bad moodand or will just dismiss the class early. When he gives tests, they aren't always on the material covered. I managed to get an A in this class but seriously be prepared to study 2 hours a day on top of assigned work.
I took this teacher knowing his hard reputation. He is hard but if you do the work he is easy and would help you all the way. Visiting in his office was so inspirational that I changed majors. Thanks señor.
A got an A. Yes, I worked hard. He told us from the beginning. He is an honest teacher ready to help you. I am ready for 102.
Now the semester is over. I learned Spanish after falling in H.S. I am so grateful to Señor Lechuga. He made me love the language. Besides he is funny. Recommended. A+
Great teacher! He really helps you understand the language and makes it really fun. Make sure you do your work and come to class prepared. His tests are moderately hard - you need to know what your doing.
I took Professor Lechuga online 101 and 102, I never met him, however he always answered my emails and phone calls. I learned a lot, not hard quizzes, easy grades if you are prepared.
I had Señor Lechuga in Spa 101 and 102 online. He was 247 to help students. Bb always was full of information. I was lost a little at the end but he helped anyway. I graduated yesterday. Gracias Señor.
Trust me!! Lechuga is a fun professor, he TRIES to be funny, keyword.. tries. It can be very hard to understand him at times because he talk like Tony Montana in Scarface.(really) be sure to study, things can get confusing quickly. He is a tough grader no doubt and he will come off as rude and uncaring at times. If U R easily offended take another.
Most of my class hated him but I thought he was a decent teacher. If you haven't taken Spanish before he might be confusing for you. He has a thick accent so he's sometimes hard to understand and doesn't always explain things well. His toughness can come off as rude but he's a nice guy it can just be misconstrued. Attendance matters.
Lechuga is very unfair. If your Spanish is not a 10 on a 1-10 scale, you won't pass the class no matter how good your grades are. He is a very tough grader, very impatient, and very disrespectful. He does not teach Spanish in class, so you're teaching yourself. You do workbook assignments all day in class.
He is the worse teacher I've encountered at Germanna. He is of no help. Also he will make you feel uneducated and will get angry if you take longer then expected on an in class assignment! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!
Took 201 over the summer to fulfill the requirement at my university. Nice guy and was always available to help. There was only one in class test and the rest were take home. Pretty fair grader and usually has grades posted the day you turn things in. I would recommend him to anyone who needs a Spanish requirement fulfilled. Got a B in the class.
This professor was very hard to understand and made each class a struggle. The professor is very unlikely to help you and is generally unhappy to answer questions about the material. Very little of the class was spent on the material that was supposed to be taught. Be prepared to be teaching yourself Spanish by means of Google.
CONS: Very unclear at times with instructions. Lots of group work. Accent is tough to understand at times. Skips around a lot on info. PROS: Gives extra credit about 3 times during the semester. Will bump your final grade about 8-10% if you do all of them. Verdict: Would not take again, most stress I've ever had. Take the SPA classes online
This teacher in no help the test are on nothing you have learned. He teaches you nothing in class and expects you to now everything. Gets pissed if to take to long to answer any questions. Don't even dare ask him a question he will get beyond pissed. He states his office is always open for help its not he just tells you to get out and study more.
The tests are nothing like you would expect from the "practice tests" on myspanishlab. He believes in the "Flip Course" where you teach yourself and "Practice" in class. This teaching methodology did not work for me. He makes you create several skits that you have to memorize and present. Ask a question, well you may as well not bother.
He is not clear on what is expected from you. All of the homework is online but due on random days, One night we got out of class (around 8) and he assigned homework to be due that night without mentioning it to us in class. Tests are very hard and sometimes the vocab on them are not even found in the book. Would never take again
He is a horrible professor. Will not be there for you when needed. Tried to arrange multiple meetings to his office which is supposively "always open" but will not be there. He will fail you easily and does not care for his students. He expects you to be basically fluent in a beginners Spanish class. Would NOT recommend to anyone.
Worst professor. Save yourself NOW and do not take him. seriously. was not available at office when he said he would be. scheduled multiple meetings with him and was unable to see him because he had to leave for a doctors appointment every week. brush you off his shoulder and get mad when you were not FLUENT in the language by day 2.
This guy was a very disrespectful and unprofessional teacher. He will get mad at you and tell you need a tutor in front of the entire class if you didn't know an answer. He is also a terrible teacher and an even worse grader. I explained things to my class better than he did, and he still gave me an F. I got 100s on all my homework too. Stay away.
He's literally so awful do not take him, you will regret it. He gets mad at you when you don't understand something and goes off on the class and students when you can't understand what he's explaining. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
I took Lechuga my first semester at germanna and it was the worst decision I could have made. I assumed because it was beginning that I would learn something. WRONG. He is the most disrespectful, unhelpful teacher.
This is on me , but these are my honest thoughts. I took this class because I *thought* it would be an easy A due to me taking Spanish back in middle and high school. Figured itd be an easy to help me a long to graduating. Dont take this professor if youre not a try hard , language major, or passionate about learning Spanish.
Prof. Lechuga's class wasn't terrible. Most of the work and the learning is done by the student as there are very few actual lectures. Participate and do the assigned homework activities and that will boost your grade. Most difficult thing me by far was the grading criteria wasn't as clear as it should've been. Overall the class was ehh
He is sporadic and hard to follow in lectures. However, he shows effort in understanding. Beware of pop quizzes and study previous tests for the final. He follows the same question patterns. It's better to study basic Spanish on your own to keep up with the class since he does not fully explain for those who have a harder time grasping it.
I took this class online as I have a day job and attend another university. I thought online easier and more flexible, but I was wrong. I had HOURS of HW due 3 times a week EVERY WEEK, and that plus work and other classes overwhelmed me. Tests were given on weekends with little notice, & the e-learnings were not very easy to understand. No bueno
He was HORRIBLE, rude, disrespectful, arrogant, and cruel. I will never take him again. Seriously do not take this class. Everything on here is true and it is just horrible. He doesn't say everything that is due on the syllabus and only posts test the NIGHT BEFORE they are due! Not only is the class messed up but he is a mean teacher.
STAY AWAY I worked 3 jobs so I took the class online thinking it would be more convenient, boy was I wrong. I worked weekends and those are the only days he puts his tests up and gave hours of homework. He decided to drop my grade by two letters because I missed on of his "oral exams" due to work. He is super demeaning and expects you to be fluent!
Seriously just dont do it. SAVE YOURSELF! Most of the work is homework, multiple times a week and will take hours long. He assigned a lot of extra credit but then never added them to the grades. Through the class I kept a low A but for some reason he dropped my grade two letters for my final grade. He also will embarrass you if you dont understan
Im a Spanish speaker and I only took this class to get the credit. He belittles his students, he has no respect for them. He will get mad at you if you dont know something, and will embarrass you. I found myself helping the students because how poorly he lectured. Save yourself.
Worst professor of all time. He does not teach his students. He gives you busy work and expects you to teach yourself. Consistently provides confusing instructions or none at all until the last minute. He acts as if his students have no jobs, other classes, or anything but his class to worry about. He barely speaks English and does not communicate.
Hard to follow
I read about him before I took his class, mostly is not true. He cares about his students. He gives you some work and expects you to do it on time, this is College, right?. Consistently provides instructions to clarify. He cares about his students. He answer emails in 24 h. . He made me speak Spanish!
I took him summer 2020. Spa 201 & 202. Classes on line. Easy to follow, lots of work (those are an online classes). He answered all my emails in 24 h. with great explanations. Pop quizzes and tests are easy. We had VideoZoom , we spoke in Spanish. I recommend him.
He doesn't teach. We didn't have a single Zoom session all semester, no prerecorded lectures, nothing. He directed us to the textbook where he gives assignments seemingly at random and left us to teach ourselves. I was only able to do well because I took Spanish in high school. Save yourself the money and just download Duolingo.
