Professor Murphy is a tough but fair professor. This was my fourth attempt to pass English 2 and I finally did it with his help! He has a great sense of humor, but is very serious about the material he covers. For the love of God do the reading and read all his prompts and handouts!

Prof. Murphy taught my Critical Analysis class, and really tries to help you explore the material. Good humor coupled with use of modern day examples help to relate to the text. If you're into the work, expect to do well. If you're not into it, expect to still get by ok. Class was fun, sometimes long, but not boring. Good example of SMCs quality.

I got a B, he's alright, you have to write a number of essays but by doing this it makes you a better writer, wasn't all that serious about attendance and being on time, however if you show up to class u'll have a better chance at passing.

Prof. Murphy's okay. He's pretty particular when it comes to his grading though. Definitely not an easy A. There is a 10 page research paper at the end that is a HUGE pain, but if you work hard and do everything, you'll end up with a B or an A. He looks at the clock a lot (almost obsessively). Pretty interesting, but I'd probably take another prof.

First off, he is an amazing professor that really is passionate about his class. Though, you would have to read a lot during the semester. (I took him during my Spring semester in 2015) 4 books in total. He gives clear requirements but the class overall is demanding. I would definitely recommend this class if you are hardworking to be inspired :)

The guidelines and grading criteria are very clear and fair. He's very strict with correct formatting, which I think is great. Follow his rules, do the work, and you'll be fine. He does most of the talking with little interaction with the students, but he has some interesting points. However, the classes can sometimes be a little long.

I had professor Murphy for English 1, which I enjoyed so much I took his class again for English 2! The papers were tough, but he always provided help and feedback when askedneeded. Prof Murphy's class is a class you would want to take. You have to work for the A, but it is very much possible. He hands you clear criterias and schedule of assignments. He also gives you samples of A papers in class or in his website. These are papers from his previous students and are very helpful. Most importantly, you learn how to write well!

Professor Murphy genuinely cares about the success of his students. His assignment expectations are explained clearly and are accompanied by a clear grading rubric. You know exactly what you need to do in order to receive an A. He gives great feedback and continuously challenges his students to think critically and improve their material.

Took him for English 1. His assigned reading is eclectic and interesting, from Sontag to Mark Doty. If you don't already enjoy English, don't be too worried but DO try & show that you're engaged. As long as he sees you're trying, he'll appreciate it. A bit of a grammar stickler if he knows you can take it. The A is hard but achievable.

Overall great professor. He is clear on what he is looking for in the essays. His lectures can be a bit dull at times, but you can tell her truly has a passion for writing and reading. He is a bit of a dorky nerd when it comes to writing and books, it's kinda funny. I thoroughly enjoyed his class. Highly recommend!

This is an upper level English class so expect to have reading & writing assignments, OBVIOUSLY. Professor Murphy is super nice, he explains very well what he wants out of your essays, he gives good feedback & his in-class discussions really help summarize the stories assigned. Only 2 books are required, 4-5 essays, 1 group project. I recommend him

Loved his class, even though the theme was art. His assignments actually changed my mind on the subject. 3 essays, 1 research paper. Follow his grading criteria and you'll get full credit. Small easy-points assignments that can boost your grade. Love to hear his anecdotes, and super funny. Just make sure you submit your work on time.

SMC's English Department is freaking amazing. I absolutely love this professor and he inspired me so much. He grades based on content. The reading can be a little hard but manageable. Gives extra credit too.

No final exam. The writing/reading he had us do was actually enjoyable. Some of it was difficult but I learned a lot.

Professor Murphy was by far the best Professor I've had. He was level headed, fun to talk to, and extremely interesting. I wasnt a fan of literature until I took this class. I started to notice that my writing begun to improve and became creative. The professor is a clear grader, and also very respectful. He is VERY helpful when it comes to grading, he does grade a bit heavy though but will work with you if you are struggling. It was a fun class!

taken in a short semester and recommend it. he posted a video before class and It got me freaked out, but once you get a hang of the class it's the easiest class ever. there is a paper due each week, but the work you do that week comes together to make up your paper and he gives example papers. as long as you follow what he wants you will get an A.

Professor Murphy is truly one of the best online professors I have had so far. This is my third semester in college and he has been so cooperative and understanding. His work is very easy if you put in the work. If you need help or accidentally turn in a late assignment, he will understand and give NO penalties. HIGHLY recommend him!!

Prof. Murphy was one of the best professors I ever had. I took him in a short semester and he geared the class around it, he shortened his criteria from his 17 week class to a 6 week class. His extra credit is also really fun and unique. 1 essay per week on either a poem or Hamlet. Also a really easy grader - I finished with a 108%

This is for ENGL15, a flexible online class on Shakespeare. I really enjoyed the class and Professor Murphy was great! We spent two weeks watching and reading each play. For each play we had to post to a discussion forum, write a short paper, and there was an optional live meeting for each play to discuss and answer questions.

I took him Spring 2024 and he was awesome! I needed eng2 for my pre req and this was a very easy class, if you're taking other classes you don't need to worry about tons of homework, he usually gives 2 assignments per week with opportunities for extra credit.
