Dr. Reyes is a nice guy and I think he did a great job, given that he's new to Emory during a pandemic. However, I wish he were more understanding of attendance problems due to COVID. The pop quizzes are kinda annoying and I think he has telepathy or something because he ONLY offered them when I wasn't in class. There is A LOT of homework as well.
His class is really lecture and test heavy and some of these tests really don't reflect everything he covered in class .... and sometimes he just doesn't explain students' questions clearly... I understand there are many students in his class but he just NEVER replies to any of my emails it's frustrating.
Run. Tests do not match class content and do not accurately reflect student's ability. Only reads off slides and does not explain concepts. After class it feels like he read off the sub headers of the textbook. If you enjoy or are curious about Biology at all, you will be depressed by how lacking his teaching is. Please do not take!
The Good: Lectures are detailed and clear. Very organized. Fair tests and grading. Very helpful during office hours. The Bad: Not very accommodating. The Ugly: The Lockdown Browser for exams w/ webcam. Pop-quizzes test the class readiness.
Class is not clear but this might be because he is a first year lecturer. Does not release all slides after class. Keeps some slides from lecture secretive to incentivize students to come to lecture! Also pop quizzes. You need to spend a lot of extra time and energy in this class! Try not to take.
For the love of God, take anyone else. He will NEVER respond to your emails, is incapable of properly lecturing the material, and the exams are never reflective of what we learned in the chapters. Lots of professors tried to make this semester easier on students. Not this dude.
Avoid at all costs. Exam content vs. what is emphasized in class is wildly different. Q's on exams/quizzes can be tricky and are filled with typos/broken grammar. Exam Q's are hidden after and can only be viewed by appt. which is ridiculous for an intro bio class and prevents learning. He is impossible to get in touch w/ and rarely regrades bad Q's
Yeah just do not take this prof unless you do not have any other choice. He goes way too fast and then takes off slides after he is done with the lecture, so if you missed it the only way to go find the slides you missed is to search their the vod. He seems lazy and just wants the class to be over with so he speed runs the lectures.
Professor Reyes was difficult to get in touch with and had very inaccurate exams based off of the lecture material. Lecture slides are poorly worded as are exam questions. Pop quizzes are also used and cannot be made up even if you had an excused absence. Exam questions come out of nowhere and are graded harshly. Avoid at all costs.
Reyes is a great person! He seems to care for the students and would regrade quiz questions if they were unfair. His class was lecture-heavy and sometimes boring, but he explained the concepts well enough that you don't need to read the textbook. You had to go to class because of pop-quizzes and several slides that he wouldn't post after class.
He's meh a best. Dry lectures and his students have to correct him a lot. Most of the grades in the class are based on tests, but his tests are poorly written or based on content never taught in the class. He doesn't seem very interested in the class and he doesn't seem to understand the content he's teaching. Reads off the slides a lot.
Take ANYONE else. Uses material from other professors' classes on his exams but doesn't teach that material to his students. No practice problems or studying material. Incredibly test heavy (67%). Rushes through lectures. Rarely accessible. Poorly written, ambiguous questions. Said cheat sheets were optional but made them mandatory.
We have 1 hour 15 min classes but he finishes in less than 40 minutes. I came out of class every day not being able to understand anything. The tests simply did not match the material so there was no way to study effectively. He also does not respond to emails. Choose a different prof. Or you will be frustrated. Strong accent. Hard class, bad prof
Very unassessable. Has early morning office hours. I tried signing up for one on ones to receive help but he never responded to emails. I tried to improve my grade this semester but did not recieve help. The tests did not match class material and I was gambling with my next test grade even after studying. Very weird logic when lecturing
just not great. not very interesting to listen to, even worse to try to contact. take someone else if you can
This class sucked quite frankly. Reyes was not good at explaining any student questions, often contradicted himself while trying to answer. There were cases in which what he said and what was on the slides were not the same, and what he said was correct and what was actually tested were not congruous. He is a terrible professor, don't take him.
I noticed a lot of negative reviews for Dr. Reyes but some are a bit harsh. He is passionate about biology and his lectures are engaging. I agree that Dr. Reyes struggles to be clear at times (he contradicts himself) but his grading criteria is clear and pop quizzes are basically free points. His exams are fair. Just make sure to rewatch lectures!
Lots of these reviews are v harsh but he's not AWFUL. I've definitely had worse professors at Emory. I'd say the worst thing is that he doesn't answer questions clearly and sometimes contradicts himself. I studied exclusively from PPTs and got an A. Some questions are legit word for word PPT material. Caring guy, willing to make accomodations.
The class isn't super hard but Reyes isn't a very good teacher. He doesn't seem like a bad person but he just doesn't care much. He's unresponsive, words questions and notes weirdly, and isn't a transparent grader. The mid terms and final were very different from each other and he really needs to put in more work. The class was all memorization...
Dr. Reyes's lecture slides were very helpful. The course is organized well. Read the slides and you'll do well in the course. However, he almost never answers emails. He sometimes contradicts himself.
The worst at accommodating for anything. Leaves very little buffer room. I was sick with COVID 19 and also lost a family member while in class with him, and he was the absolute worst at accommodating; had to go over his head to OUE. Never could reach -- -texted LAs for help. Does NOT teach info needed for tests. buffer for grades but test heavy.
This was one of the worst classes I have ever taken. The test and quiz questions are vague, confusing. Content not difficult yet made confusing+unnecessarily hard. One test had questions from content not taught yet, and the teacher simply said we should be doing the asynch work. I had and that content had not been covered. Very frustrating. Avoid.
The content itself is not difficult, but the way the class is structured makes it hard to get a good grade. Very test heavy, and test questions are poorly worded and super nitpicky about specifics. He also contradicts himself a lot, even in the same lecture. Avoid 100% if you can.
I would not take him again nor would I recommend, absolutely horrible. Pop quizzes and acts like it' to help people, and it literally is to make people come to class. Not accommodating, and puts the wrong answers on quizzes, when you ask about it even if you know he is wrong, he still acts like he is right. TRUST THE REVIEWS. DON'T TAKE.
Hard to get ahold of outside class, replies in one sentence emails that are not in the least enlightening, very self confident (woefully so), and his tests... even if you feel as if you understand the material; trust me, you don't. In this summer session, only one person got an A on the first midterm, and no one got an A on the second.
Reused fall and spring semester tests for summer session instead of tailoring tests to the condensed structure or the change in lectures and learning, test questions do not reflect content addressed in class, unnecessarily nitpicky grader, overall terrible professor. Doesnt care. Through this course, I have learned one thing-that I hate biology.
Professor Reyes was extremely unresponsive to emails and would generally talk over and dismiss students asking questions during office hours. His tests were not reflective of the course material, as some questions were overly simplified whereas others were on random content not covered at any point in the class.
Contradicts himself A LOT and refuses to admit when he is wrong. He lost some credibility with myself and several of his other students. The content is not that hard but the exams will contain confusingly worded questions. Your grade will reflect how well you can teach yourself the material, not how well you were taught by Dr. Reyes.
Dr. Reyes is a tough professor but his virtual class was well organized. I was not sure about being a bio major but this class helped me decide to stay in biology.
Largely inept teacher - easily the worst in the department. Cares more about his lame Star Wars office collection than actually responding to student concerns and questions. Contradicts himself all the time, likely due to a poor grasp of his own course material. The dude lost the respect of the class after only one week. Avoid at all costs.
Dr. Reyes taught virtually during covid and he tried very hard to make the class interesting. He had clear instructions and offered office hours to those that needed more help. Not an easy class but I recommend taking Dr. Reyes.
Dr. Reyes is a strict professor but he clearly explains what is required to do well in this class. I attended office hours every week and he explained and answered questions students had. This is not a class where you get an easy A, but a class that if you put the effort, you will do well.
Extremely tough class. Dr. Reyes did inspire me to work hard. He wrote me a letter of recommendation afterwards. Not a class where one gets an easy pass.
Biology 141 was one of the toughest class I had yet. Dr. Reyes will give you a lot of material to study but the grading was fair. I am not a fan of virtual classes but not the worse class. Dr. Reyes cares a lot of about teaching and he did a good job. It does take a while for him to respond but he does get back to you.
Bio 142 with Dr. Reyes was by far the most difficult class of my semester. There was a steep jump in complexity from Bio 141 so be prepared. The class was well organized and office hours were super helpful. Dr. Reyes lectures a lot but his classes are overall fun and easy to follow. Make sure you visit office hours.
Dr. Reyes is difficult but I learned a great deal in the class. and I feel ready as a bio major. The class was virtual but the material was vast and complex. Overall great lectures but I worked a lot fo earn my grade.
After taking Bio142 with Dr. Reyes I was inspired to to follow a career in biology. The class was virtual therefore there was no contact with others, but the class was very interesting. Dr. Reyes had office hours twice a week and this really helped me grasp some of the more difficult material.
This was a challenging course, specially since it was completely online. Dr. Reyes can have an accent which can be difficult to understand but he tries hard to engage the class. As mentioned in previous ratings, attending office hours will help you do well im his exams. Dr. Reyes takes a while to respond to e-mails but he does respond.
Dr. Reyes was well organized but the content was too difficult for an intro-level course. Not a bad professor but the class should be much easier. Keep up with the readings.
Dr. Reyes was a kind and fair professor. The topics start easy but get tough, which I can imagine is normal for a class like this. Mentor sessions and office hours helped me do well. I recommend Dr. Reyes.
the rating he has right now doesnt give him justice. hes a good teacher and is always asking for feedback to try to better his lectures. Classes are heavy based so i recommend attending class. he answers questions whenever you ask. as long as you pay attention in class and take notes you should be fine. 8/10
I just finished the semester with Reyes (BIOL141) and he was a great lecturer with good slideshows (people would ask for his slides). Lectures were always interactive. Also his quizzes and exams are very fair as long as you pay attention, take notes on the slides, etc. He is also A VERY NICE and COOL guy. I am retaking him for BIOL 142 now.
Took biology 141 with Professor Reyes. The course was not easy but Professor Reyes knows how to teach really well. The classes were mixed with lectures and class activities. Office hours helped me understand heavier subjects. Professor Reyes gives opportunity for bonus points and his exams are mid-difficult. Very good experience.
Dr. Reyes was amazing in the Biology 141 course. We covered a lot of material but Dr. Reyes always went slow to make sure the class was not confused. I suggest you attend office hours for further clarification. Dr. Reyes Always responded emails promptly. I am taking his Bio142 class next spring.
Biology 141 with Professor Reyes was one of my favorites from the past semester. Professor Reyes took time to teach at a good pace and slowed down when we needed it. Professor Reyes was kind but his tests were not easy. You need to read the book and stay up to date to get a good grade. When I wrote Professor Reyes e-mails he responded fast.
Lectures for half the class then you can do a worksheet for the remainder. Repeats important explanations multiple times. Really nice and always walking around if you need help. I recommend if you are interested in climate change (because he is very into it) or for a chill class. Barely used the book and quizzes were at home.
Bio 141 with Dr. Reyes was one of the best classes I have taken. If you read, attend class, do assignments on time and you will do well. Exams are hard but not impossible. Dr. Reyes responded when I needed help. I am taking his Bio 142 this semester.
Dont trust everything you see on here. Majority of bad ratings are from cocky students who are too lazy to put in their own work. Reyes wont hold your hand and this class isnt easy, but he will ALWAYS be willing to help if you reach out. Such a sweet guy, and its so clear he cares about his students and their learning. Solid choice
Biology 141 with Professor Reyes was very interesting. The course was not too difficult and the grading was based on three large exams, quizzes and assignments. If you attend class and pay attention, you will most likely do well. Professor Reyes genuinely cares about this class and his students.
I took Biology 141 and 142 with Professor Reyes. The classes were very challenging but if you study, pay attention in class and ask question, the courses become a lot easier. It helps to always ask questions. Professor Reyes always taught at a good pace and cared a lot for his students.
BIO 141 with instructor Reyes was a fun and course. The topics went from easy to difficult. Attendance is a must. Tests are based on the material instructor Reyes covered in lecture. I am now taking BIO 142 with instructor Reyes.
Dr. Reyes was a great teacher in my BIO 141. The subjects we learned were very interesting and Dr. Reyes made the class fun. Tests were a bit difficult.
The nicest guy but not a very good professor, I'd only take if you're comfortable with bio/learning on your own. Knowledgable but doesn't admit mistakes and unclear responses to questions. His tests reflect the slides and worksheets, if I did take it again with him I'd skip class and study slides, wouldn't get book.
The lectures were well organized and the topics interesting but the class was a bit difficult. Not too many exams so you need to do well in all of them. The professor gave us opportunities for extra credit so that helped. Office hours also helped understand the material. Overall a great class.
My Biology 142 course with Professor Reyes was one of the hardest classes my whole semester. We covered a lot of material but it was expected from this type of class. Professor Reyes always made sure we were following along, and he genuinely cared for our learning. Classes were detailed but the pace made it easy for us to keep up.
Biology 141 with professor was a good experience. The class was organized and lectures made sense. I can see that Professor Reyes spends a lot of time preparing the lectures and student activities. I am taking Biology 142 with Professor Reyes now.
I took Professor Reyes for Biol 141 and 142, and would highly recommend his class. Although the tests can be a bit difficult/strangely worded, he is so approachable and understanding that it makes up for it. He is obviously passionate about the subject matter, and it shows through his lectures.
Took his freshman seminar this year for BIOL 190. Seemed like so much work after going through the syllabus during the first class but ended up being so easy. Just read and write 5 summaries and write a final paper + presentation. Do the work and you'll get an A
I just ended my Biology 142 course with Dr. Reyes and he is a passionate instructor. He spends a lot of time explaining topics and tries to go slow to make sure the class follows along. Exams can be a little difficult but if you show up to class and do the work, you will do well.
Biology 142 with professor Reyes was one of my favorite courses. A book is required but if exam questions come mostly from lectures and activities and not so much from the book. Attendance is a must. Professor Reyes cares about his students very much.
In Biology 142 with instructor Reyes we covered tons of topics but, but if you attend class, study and ask questions, you will be ok. Instructor Reyes tries to cover the topics slowly and will always answer questions in class. Not an easy A but not the most difficult course.
He is a good lecturer but some of his wording on exams is weird and can be confusing. Also he makes his finals much harder than the midterms.
i hate the style of the exams. lectures were super boring and all the content was memorization based .
Bio 142 was very interesting with professor Reyes. The lectures were not super long and there were lots of questions from the students that ended up in class discussions. The exams were not that difficult as long you showed up to class and studied the material. This class helped me decide in becoming a bio major.
Seminar with professor Reyes was inspiring. We read articles and books, watched documentaries and each student presented on a topic related to extinction and climate warming. Grading was fair and participation was mandatory, but that made the class even more fun. My experience in science was not much but this seminar inspired me to know more.
I took Bio 141 and 142 with Professor Reyes. The classes helped me decide my path as a bio major. Professor Reyes was kind and always took time to help the class understand the topics. The classes were early in the day but Professor Reyes brought in a sense of energy that made the class a lot of fun.
Explains everything well. Willing to take extra time to help students understand. Super nice and welcoming too!
Very kind and straight forward with what you should do. Just pay attention, don't skip class, and meet with him then you will do great. All memorization but it's interesting!
Compared to other Bio lectures, Dr. Reyes' class was very manageable. Not textbook heavy and focused on lectures more. Half of class was dedicated to learning while the other class was for practicing. I would definitely take him again!
Reyes is a good professor. There's a lot of information so there's a lot of memorization, but you have that in any bio class. There's many ways to earn points to boost your grade. His test questions come straight from his slides so you know you've seen it all before. But he won't always put the most important info on the tests and can trick you.
The ecology course was math intensive but Dr. Reyes gives students the ability to do well. Attendance is a must.
Great lecturer. Had him at 8:30 am but was always motivated to get up for his class. Lectures are not mandatory, and he posts the ppt, but the lectures are not recorded. Only thing is that he is tricky with tests bc he is not always clear what is always on the test. Textbook is not necessary to buy for the class. Great personality though!!
You definitely have to put in the work for this class. You shouldn't miss many lectures if you want to do well, but he posts the PowerPoint after class which is helpful. Your grade is heavily dependent on tests, and he doesn't accept any late work under any circumstances, so you have to work hard.
Be sure to attend lectures and review the slides and you'll be fine. Memorization based for sure so pretty easy especially if you've taken AP Bio. The final was definitely harder than the midterms but still doable. Really nice professor and cares about his students :)
Honestly, I would not recommend Dr. Reyes. His assessments will pull the most minute and sporadic facts from any component of his slides. For those used to application-based learning and critical thinking, get used to a great deal of elementary memorization.
Biology 141 was a great experience. Dr. Reyes taught at a slow pace and made the course enjoyable. I am taking his ecology class now.
This class is 100% memorization. If you are looking to learn concepts effectively, don't take Dr. Reyes. He will be extremely unclear about what is on the exam and even if you memorize his slides, you are almost guaranteed to miss some minute detail he will ask about on an exam. He also has office hours only once a week which he frequently cancels.
Ecology with Dr. Reyes was Math heavy, something not expected from this type of course. The class was not easy there was plenty of opportunity to turn in group assignments. The course was interesting and Dr. Reyes always taught at a great pace.
Dr. Reyes is the best professor!! He is really engaging and I enjoyed coming to class. He was great at explaining concepts and I understood the content well. The weekly quizzes were dependable, and there were three exams (2 midterms and a final) that were moderately difficult but definitely doable. Take this class!!
tests are specific (you need to go to class) but if you learn the material from the lectures you will do fine. office hours are very helpful
Easygoing, but educational. Jokes around with the class, and provides a lot of interesting topics to learn about. Great guy with a lot of funny stories. Not an insane grader, just follow the rubric and you've fine. Not too much hw either, but not a blowoff class. For half of the semester you just read articles and talk about them the next day.
So chill. Learned a lot as well. You know he wants the best for his students.
Not the easiest class but I was happy I took biology with Dr. Reyes. Highly recommended.
Professor Reyes was insightful and showed he cared about the class. The material was not too difficult.
Lots of math but the course was easy to handle. There is plenty of opportunity to get bonus points but exams can be a bit difficult. Professor Reyes did a fine job teaching the class.
The class was math heavy but Dr. Reyes was super chill. He likes to work with the class with all kinds of activities for extra points. Enjoyed the course a lot.
Biology 141 with Dr. Reyes was a challenge, but plenty of opportunities to receive credit for assignments. Office hours are highly recommended. Dr. Reyes shows he is passionate for the topics he teaches.
Expect an interesting blend of biology and statistics. His course is really lecture heavy and he speaks kinda fast. The hw assignments are all easy but the exams are long and require quite of bit of memorization on your part to do well. Not a tough professor and really willing to listen to feedback if you ask nicely and explain your concerns.
Dr. Reyes was a kind professor in ecology. The class was tough but Dr. Reyes gives a lot of opportunity to learn and seek help. This was one of my favorite classes. Not easy but I appreciated Dr. Reyes.
Ecology was stats-intensive but Dr. Reyes took his time to teach the course at a slow pace. He showed a lot of care for his students. The course gave me a great experience.
Ecology with Dr. Reyes was a difficult course but if you put in the work, you will learn and do great. Office hours are a huge plus and a most. Dr. Reyes is accessible and makes it easy for his students to meet with him. Not an easy class but well worth it.
Not the easiest class at Emory but the material was interesting. Heavy on stats and formulas. Professor Reyes is tough but passionate. Highly recommend his courses.
Dr. Reyes' ecology course was inspirational. The course was well organized and I Dr. Reyes truly cares about the students. I had a great experience in this course.
Ecology with Reyes was difficult previously but he genuinely cares about students and listened to feedback. Exams are mostly short answer and have high 80 averages. If you are interested in the content, his lectures are engaging and he's happy when people participate. Class attendance is very important in order to fully understand the lecture notes
Dr. Reyes is a decent lecturer and very passionate. A decent amount of your grade is based on daily activities that are graded off of completion and exams. Exams can be a bit information-heavy and lengthy, as they are mostly short-answer questions with multiple parts each. A few pop quizzes as well, but there is nothing too overwhelming in class.
Dr. Reyes co-taught BIOL385 Marine Biology. The course had four exams to evenly distribute the lecture material. Exams can be a bit information-heavy and lengthy, as they are mostly short-answer questions with multiple parts each. Attendance was mandatory. However, Dr. Reyes was very passionate about the subject and made the class very interesting.
Solid choice for bio elective. Content was not necessarily difficult to grasp, there was just so much of it that I often found myself lost in my own notes. Also pretty fast paced class but reviewing the slides and worksheets every weekend helped a lot. Grading criteria was unclear as expectations often strayed from the learning objectives
Marine bio was a good mix of lecture, discussion and group work. Professor Reyes showed passion and care for the class. I thoroughly enjoyed taking marine bio.
Ecology is math-heavy but Dr. Reyes is a caring professor who helps his class. Ecology was enjoyable and the stats we do in class are interesting. Highly recommend Dr. Reyes and Ecology.
He really cares about learning and understanding, so when I got a D on a test and went to him to show him that I did understand the material, but the test was just structured in a hard way, he raised my test grade from a 60 to a 71 and then also gave us 5 points extra credit. I will say that the out of class work it pretty hard.
not the best bio professor, the highest grade on first exam was an 89 with an average of a 75 and he gave us 5 extra points but we had to work for it. super sweet guy but doesn't explain content well in class. not much homework outside of readings and take home quizzes.
Biology 141 with Professor Reyes was not the easiest or the most difficult class. There is a lot of reading, but the lectures and activities are interesting and engaging. As long as one makes the effort, the class becomes a good experience.
Professor Reyes is a really chill and nice dude who knows his Biology. You will have to study outside the lectures though. I mean what did you expect its a biology course learn to self study.
Ecology with Dr. Reyes was by far not the easiest. It takes work but Dr. Reyes shows passion in the class. There are quizzes that can be missed, but not too difficult to get an A. Enjoyed the class.
Dr. Reyes obviously cares about the subject and his students, unfortunately his lectures do not translate well onto the tests which can be quite difficult. The online quizzes can get hard as well. The homework is light, it is mostly just worksheets that feel like high school level. Attendance is not mandatory and he posts his slides.
pretty straight forward class, just study the lecture slides and you will do well on the exams. assigns pointless excel data analysis assignments throughout the course which i hated. i think they are graded based on completion because i never did any of them correctly. overall chill guy.
Ecology with Dr. Reyes is a mix of science and math, which is very manageable. He is funny and tries to connect with his students during class. Doesn't have a lot of office hours, but TAs are around to help out and are useful. 80% of the grade is exams, but if you study you will be fine. Vibe of the class is good, and content is pretty interesting
Dr. Reyes is super passionate. He *really* wants everyone to participate and no one really does, kind of hard to watch. Class material is basic. Lots of short assignments graded for completion. Tests aren't easy, mostly short answer questions, you really have to know and be able to explain concepts. Overall, he cares and is pretty good at teaching.
Very passionate professor about ecology. As long as you pay attention during the lectures, review the material, attend the TA review sessions, you will do just fine. The content itself is interesting. The tests can be long and somewhat challenging, but he prepares you well for it. 100% recommend.
Dr. Reyes truly wanted all of his students to succeed. However, I found that the textbook readings and weekly quizzes didn't prepare us for the exams at all. The readings were much more detailed than needed and took hours. I felt I would've benefited more from assignments that would've prepared me for the analytical thinking I'd need on the exam.
Dr. Reyes showed that he cares for his students in Ecology. The course was test heavy and be aware of the pop quizzes. The content is a blend of math and statistics, but not too difficult. Greatly enjoyed the course.
Such an easy class! Love him!
I really loved this class, Prof. Reyes always made clear exactly what we needed to know. Do the readings and you will be fine
Dr. Reyes is super passionate about the class and really cares about students! If I was ever confused, I would simply send him an email and he would get back to me so quickly. The tests were definitely not easy, I would make sure to know all the terms from class, and especially know how to do all of the activities done in class.
Professor Reyes' ecology class was challenging but engaging. Lectures were informative and he cared about student learning. Utilizing unstuck ai and the free textbook helped me succeed.
Ecology was not easy. Attendance is mandatory and it counts, but Professor Reyes wants the class to succeed. Mixture of lecture and activities make the class enjoyable,
Dr. Reyes' ecology class was very engaging and enlightening about the natural world, but there's quite a bit of work to do: weekly quizzes and HW assignments often involving math and statistics. Wording can be vague and confusing, but so long as you study based on the learning objectives, exams aren't too bad. Final's harder than midterms though.
Ecology with Professor Reyes was enjoyable but you had to earn your grade. Quizzes and exams by no means easy but the course was inspiring.
Reyes is really underrated. He stopped making textbook readings mandatory and the quizzes are based mostly on the slides and the homework that he assigns (which is high school level stuff). Very nice guy and he's more than willing to help if you make the effort to go to his office hours.
Take Reyes. He is best teacher in the bio department. He cares so much about his students and multiple times has given me credit back on my exams simply for speaking to him about it. The quizzes are easy and all info can be found on the slides and the textbook is optional to buy (although helpful to have). take reyes he is so amazing.
Some of the most poorly written assessments I've ever seen. Exams are consistently too long. The class regularly argued with him over quiz questions that were very poorly worded. Overall not terribly hard but definitely one of my least favorite classes here.
Biology 141 was a great class. If you put the work, you will do just fine. Plenty of chances to get exta credit too. I recommend this class.
Ecology with Professor Reyes is math heavy and is fairly difficult. You cannot afford to miss class because it is easy to fall behind. Dr. Reyes though takes care of the students and provides lots of help to succeed.
Dr. Reyes is a very nice professor who is always willing to talk and meeting with students. As long as you show up to lectures and prepare for tests you will do well. Sometime test questions can seem tricky, but Dr. Reyes typically curves difficult questions.
Dr. Reyes is a nice person, but his teaching style can be unclear. Assignments are low quality and don't strongly support class material. Quizzes often include poorly worded or untaught content. Exams are curved only after removing missed questions, and despite stressing concepts, he tests numbers and dates, which feels odd for a biology course.
Dr. Reyes is a caring professor who genuinely cares for his students. The class carries a lot of content but it is not too difficult. Dr. Reyes brings energy and a great attitude even though the class was early.
Run away. Homework every class, a lot of excel work, test heavy, 10 quiz that asks very niche details. He also doesnt know a lot of details if you ask. If he got a PhD, anyone can get it.
Prepare to do some heavy math in Ecology with professor Reyes. As long as you don't miss class, you will be fine. The tests are long for fair. The topics are detailed, yet interesting.
was doing good in exams and homework and quizzes because he was a nice guy but material can be heavy, lots of math, and sort of unclear assignments. but he just made the final pretty hard after everyone did well on the second exam (he allows cheat sheets on exams) so my grade will probably drop to an A-.
I needed Ecology for my major and it worked out well. The course keeps you on your toes but if you do the work, its not difficult. Dr. Reyes gives you opportunities to get as many points as possible. Good class.
Dr. Reyes' lectures are clear and always super entertaining. While tests make up a significant portion of the grade, as long as you go to class and the review sessions, you will be fine. I would definitely recommend taking BIOL 141 with him (just be prepared to do a lot of phylogenetics).
Dr. Reyes is very sweet and engaging. His tests tend to be pretty difficult, but attending the lectures and reviewing the LA slides helps a lot. Just make sure you also watch the videos he posts on Canvas because questions on that content will appear on the test. He will also curve the tests if any particular question is extremely difficult.
I would say Dr Reyes is a good professor. His teaching style is not the best for a basic biology class. Quizzes were very unfocused and would test knowledge that he hadn't taught or random questions that felt like "fun facts" rather than biology class content. Exams tougher than his actual taught material. Wouldn't recommend if you need the grade
Tests/quizzes asked random things like dates and numbers that were not relevant. But he was understanding if his questions weren't good because he would "toss" those questions, curving the whole class up. I also felt like his assignments took way to much time considering they were not that helpful to learning. He was very nice/caring though.
Dr. Reyes focuses on topics like phylogenetics and the class is interesting. Exams are not easy but they usually get a curve. Overall a good interesting class.
Difficult but not impossible. Plenty of opportunity to do well. Dr. Reyes cares about his class.
Ecology with Professor Reyes is no walk in the park. Do not miss class as the math becomes difficult. Exams are curved but as long you as you don't miss class, you'll be ok.
Dr: Reyes said he purposely made the final difficult because our midterm averages were “too high for his liking.” I don't think a professor should ever say that to his succeeding students.
For Ecology with Dr Reyes attendance is a must. If you miss class, good luck catching up. Dr Reyes though is highly invested in the success of the class and the topics are interesting.
Dr. Reyes is PASSIONATE. He doesn't take attendance, but he only writes equations in class. The math isn't particularly hard (w/ calc) so I'm not sure why people complain. The important part is knowing the terms and what they mean. The excel assignments are confusing but he will walk you through it if you ask and there is no one correct answer.
Dr. Reyes wants everybody to succeed and is very passionate about the course material. Attendance is mandatory because equations are not given on slides and he elaborates a lot off of them.
