Summer Class. It was her first time coming back to teach chemistry. She seemed confused a lot and confused the students but overall she was ok. I enjoyed her but her confusion did get annoying.
She ran the labs very well. She pretty much teaches off the publisher's Powerpoint slides as well as does problems in class. She drops the lowest exam grade. You can get an A in her class if you apply yourself. I think most of the students in my Summer class did well.
Chamberlin is very sweet but honestly not a good teacher. She was often confused and I spent the whole duration teaching myself the material. Online homework was tedious and not helpful. Did not give accurate study guides in terms of material she tested on.
She's the best. I had my CHM 111 with her during the summer, and had a wonderful experience. her classes are enjoyable. she's a sweetheart, and takes the best out of the students, academically and personally. and she just makes stuff easy to understand. This semester I took CHM 112 with someone else but swapped back to her after the first week.
Good teacher. Doesn't like being asked questions. She's confusing, so it's best you have previous Chem knowledge, or you're good at teaching yourself. If this is your first time doing Chem in college, go for another teacher. I've learned more from the Science center, and tutors.
Dr.Chamberlin is the BEST! She deserves my respect. If you need to take CHM 111 and desperately need an A, go take her class right now. When I was enrolling classes, her CHM 111 class was the first one to be full. If you're going to Annandale campus, Dr.Chamberlin is your best choice. I got an A in her class. She wants you to learn and succeed.
She really wants you to succeed and get a good grade. There is no way to get a low grade in this class unless you choose not to make an effort. Do your homework, go to all the classes (be on time!) and just show her that you want to do well and she will help you out.
Dr. Chamberlin is so awesome. She is always there to help and encourage her students and teaches the material well. she is only interested in making sure her students understand the material and she does the best she can to help you get a good grade. I don't know what else to say?If you want a great grade and to learn, take her class!!!!!!
She wants you to succeed, she let me turn in lab reports late and gave me full credit. She just started to do online HW (2011) but they are unlimited tries and don't have online tests. her tests are straight from the lecture so they are not hard if you study and pay attention. Most of all she's sweet and very nice person! TAKE HER!!
only take her if u know how to cheat because those of us who were honest worked REALLY hard to earn our grade in her class. almost half of the class in the back cheated...ON EVERY TEST! LOTS of hw, VERY little extra credit...i regret ever taking her class
She sucks at teaching, but she cares about her students. If you can self teach yourself well, you'll do fine. No curves, very little extra credit, test are reasonable just study. Useless online hw.
all four tests were varied from multiple choice to concept to plug in the variables final exam was easy but she gave us a copy before hand. nice lady but difficult to figure out how the tests are designed because everytime we took a test the format was different each time.
SHE RUSHES EVERYTHING! Her lectures powerpoints are copies of the textbook. She uses the 3 hour labs as lectures often.......very boring and she gets easily irritated with people.
I was disappointed. While I did get an A in the class, there were some flaws. First, she was very disorganized. She uses labs for lectures pretty often. Class can get boring at times. Tests can be a little bit tricky, too.
it was online class.she is helpful, return e-mails soon and contact you often times to work with you if you have difficulties. i went labor before i finished the last exam but she extended the due date and helped me finish the course. if you add a bit effort, her exams are easy too.take her, you wont regreat
She is nice in general, and helpful! If you ask for help, she will! she always extends the due date for lab reports,or online homework! Don't ask lots of questions especially during the class! She doesn't like that! Exams are OK, not too easy! study the text book! i got an A! You have to study for the exams.
Organic Chemistry is never an easy course, but Dr.Chamberlin made it very possible to get an A as well as know your material. Her exams are mostly from the book questions with some alterations. She is also very helpful. Do all the book problems, read the textbook and ask her for help when needed and you will get an A without a problem.
She is very sweet and cares about you. The class is hard just because organic chemistry itself is a very hard subject. Considering that, her tests are not too hard and are similar to homework questions. Gives extra points for doing hw packets, and have group pop quizzes which are just 1 or 2 problems and pretty easy.
Take her class only if you can study alone. Tests are extremely hard and you have to memorize every single details in the textbook. You need lots of effort and very little extra credit
If you want a good grade, be sure to read (and memorize)the text book and her slides, which come from the text book. Exams are no tricky at all, some questions are just too easy to be true. Biochem is not an easy course, so don't think she is not a good professor if you don't do well in her class. RECOMMENDED.
I don't ever understand what goes on during class. She assigns connect homework which is not helpful at all, I stopped doing it because it was too time consuming and I didn't understand what I was doing wrong when I got a question wrong. Her tests are a bit tough and I had to study really hard just to get a B- on them. She's an okay prof.
She is very boring and inaudible. She likes to call out some students. She zones out during her lectures and can go completely off topic! kind of like a person with Attention Deficit Disorder. Her tests are 60% of overall grade!--You are better off going to another campus
She is HORRIBLE!!! I would advise any one to not take her class. Although she is brilliant, she isn't able to teach. She is more the type of professor who can serve as an assistant and help out with labs not teach a class. I say this because she has a lot of knowledge about Chemistry, however cannot convey it the right way.
In a way she is helpful because she tries to make sure everybody in class is paying attention to her. She would call out students and can sense when students aren't paying attention (because she zones out and goes back to her lecturing) She can get really annoying with that too. Not a solid professor as well
Very kind and sweet professor Truly cares about her student You have to study the textbook for her exams. Read the chapters and understand the sample problems and you will get an A
Cant say enough about this professor. Baseline is I took this class on campus and had to drop it because the professor was rude and had a don't care attitude.I decided to give it a try online and guess what? Got an A. Very encouraging and caring professor. Rare to find. Of course you need to do your part.
She can't teach.
She is great! I took orgo with Dr. Chamberlin this summer, and the class was actually fun! She explains things in a simple way, that makes it easy to understand. She gives a reasonable amount of work, and lots of group work during class, which is fun and helpful. Practice exams also help a lot. One of the best teachers ever!
She was nice, and sweet but still commanded authority. She really wanted all her students to succeed and the tests weren't too hard. Read the book before class and you will be fine.
Dr Chamberlin is a nice person but she tends to become annoying when you are trying to work on a problem she gives you in the class. she constantly stops you by calling out students to listen to her because she has forgotten about something to say. she also doesn't really like to be asked questions. over all she isn't hard but you would get annoyed
I loved her, although that wasn't the opinion of everyone in the class. She is really genuine and honestly concerned about the grades of her students. Kinda a goof ball at times; she sang over the rainbow during class once. Lenient grader, fairly clear lectures, reasonable extra credit opportunities, and easy experiments.
She is extremely untrusting of students to the point of her making me feel uncomfortable. She is not approachable. This class is fine if you have 0 questions or 0 need to talk to her. She also does not explain difficult concepts well or cares to (even during office hours). I question some of her knowledge, though she is knowledgeable overall.
She is one of my best ELI teachers! Very responsive, cares about you, and tries to help you if you ask. Her lectures are clear, and video lectures help a lot. Do all the homework, make appointments with her to go over your tests or ask questions. She is a fair and very reasonable teacher, and I learned a lot in her class.
Her lecture slides are literally sentences off of the book. It makes her slide overwhelming with information. When a student is completely loss, her only explanation is that the student doesn't have enough chemistry background. When another student tries to help, she flames them for doing so. Half of exam questions are from the back of the book.
Professor Chamberlin was the best ELI instructor I've had at NOVA, and I can honestly say I feel like I learned quite a bit. The 8-week format was pretty challenging, but her online lectures are very helpful, and she was super responsive to email. Study the powerpoints based on the learning objectives she gives you and you'll be fine.
Shes very annoying , sapling is the worst thing you'll ever use, forget about her
Professor Chamberlin is one of the best ELI professor that I've ever had. She really do care about her students!! She responds quick and always answers questions. I love her!!!! If wish every professors are like her. Do all the work and you will be fine. She is really chill and understanding, just talk to her. Thank you professor Chamberlin!
Professor Chamberlin was great. It was never difficult to get in touch with her and she responded to emails quickly. I have several physical and mental disabilities and she was very accommodating of them and very understanding. The class isn't easy, but she makes it better. I would take another class taught by her in a heartbeat.
She is soooo hard to pay attention to! She just really isnt good at giving lectures, otherwise I LOVE HER!! She is very understanding when it comes to extending exam dates when a personal matter comes up. She really helpful when you dont understand something and makes time for you. She answers her emails quickly and is overall just great!!!
She is the most boring lecturer EVER!! If you have any ADD, dont take her because you will go CRAZY!! Her tests are hard and she doesnt give any pointers on how to improve. Otherwise, she is very kind and accessible outside of class. Answers emails quickly. Is a fair grader on Homework. Is understanding.
I had this teacher as a sub for last three weeks of class and she was sweet. She really cares about our success in the class but can be strict and annoying sometimes. I can't say much about her but she really helped my grade from a C to an A in chemistry, which is like the hardest subject for me. My final grade was 89 and she rounded it to an A.
She's kind, professional, & very understanding. I took her during summer 8 wk class and I'm very happy. There are 5 exams, 10 quizzes, and 9 labs. Tests are not easy esp the last 2-3 exams. You can do very well if you study good, attend labs, and take online quizzes and practice exams. Good luck and do good for Prof. Chamberlin and you won't regret
Recommend if you really want to learn something. It is Not hard for a Chemistry class at all
Dr. Chamberlin is nice but her lecture slides are overwhelming because they have so much information on them. It's your standard sapling, exams, and a research paper. She is clearly very knowledgeable. Exams are hard covering 4-5 chapters. Not many better options if you need this class. Just study and do your best.
Best Professor for CHM111. She extends her deadlines easily, which is the best part according to me. Always be respectful to her and she will be nice to you.
She extends assignments easily, posts a practice exam before each exam, and a lot of extra credit opportunities.
This class is an apparently easy A class. But you have to keep up with her paper assignment. She gives practice test and gives solutions for that and the exams are almost exact with that. Take her!! The only thing she wants during lecture is to keep silence while she is teaching unless she will get mad.
Biochem is a pain in the bum, BUT professor Chamberlin makes it manageable. She is absolutely amazing. She replies to emails faster than the speed of light. NO LIE!! Her exams are fair and she provides adequate materials to prepare you for her exams. She's also very hot and is a nice individual in general.
Professor Chamberlin was super sweet. If you were behind she would work with you to turn in your missing items. I really hated the Sapling use, but she was great. Don't be afraid to talk to her because she will do her best to help you out. Four exams. The final is based on the last few chapters you learn. Do your work to pass!
Professor Chamberlain is confusing. She can be nice and sweet to you and the next day the exact opposite. I worked so hard in this class and went to her so many times for help. She knew I worked hard but wouldnt raise my grade up from 78.6 to 80. Many professors would help you in situations like this but not her. She over complicated everything.
Video lectures are not given with ANY enthusiasm. She sighs heavily and mumbles through them. REALLY complicates concepts by hemming & hawing through them instead of getting to the point. Exams are hard, but almost straight out of the textbook. Look up end of chapter problems and the answers as soon as you start studying. Fast email. Okay overall.
Professor Chamberlain genuinely wants her students her pass, and she makes time for those who ask. Shes not a huge fan of people constantly interrupting her, but she tries her best to make people understand the material. She gives practice exams on BB with an answer key attached to it, and she responds to emails quickly. I recommend you take her!
Professor Chamberlin is very fair. Study guides for exams are straight forward & very helpful. Exams are multiple choice and fill in the blank. She wants you to succeed and is willing to work with you. She can be stern if you interrupt her during lab, so listen first- ask questions once shes finished. Shes a great professor, I would take her again
Good teacher in terms of caring for students and her willingness to help students. Lectures can be confusing at times and I find myself lost at times. She is very nice and is willing to help you boost your grade. 9 quizzes, a final, a presentation and 9 labs. Quizzes 50 pt each, final 100 pt, presentation 50 pt, labs 25 pt each.
Worth the effort you put into class
This class will take a lot of your time, but it is manageable. For exams know all possible way to answer all objectives, Prof. Chamberlin manages to cover everything on the exam quite extensively, but having those objectives in front of you is helpful. Read her slides, read the textbook, do quizzes and practice exams - and you'll do well on exam.
she is such an outstanding Person. she makes her best to make sure you understand and willing to help you get a better grade . flexible and never make you miss any points . i had a family emergency which kept me very busy and unfocused during the semester, but she supported me and did her best to help me pass the subject. i highly recommend her
Mrs. Chamberlin was the WORSE professor I have ever had. Her lectures were horrible and they were 3 years old. She does NOT workout problems. If you need this class for grad school or to graduate. I recommend taking someone ELSE! She is good a emailing back fast and that is it! Her tests are HARD; 95% is fill in the blank and 5% multiple choice.
She is a great person in general just sometimes I feel like it is hard for her to explain herself. She is very understanding if you need help or don't understand or if you need an extension on homework or on an exam. She may seem rushed at times during her lectures but meet with her alone and she will help you. I recommend but you NEED to study.
4 mandatory lab meetings. I had to miss the first one due to a funeral out of town. I emailed asking if I could make it up. Response: "Unfortunately we don't have that option for this class". She was 15 minutes late to the first lab apparently and again to the second, complained about getting a lot of emails, and didn't grade my formal lab in time
Professor Chamberlin tells you exactly how to do well in the class - turn in your labs on time, do the practice exams, and come to her with questions. When I turned a lab in and there were errors and parts that weren't explained correctly, she gave it back to me and let me edit it and turn it in for a higher grade. Excellent instructor.
Great teacher! The class was all online due to COVID, so it was all self-taught. She was clear with what was due and when, and was quick to reply to emails and personally help. Also grades assignments with full credit, even if they were late. Super nice, understanding, and helpful- recommended if you're disciplined enough to learn on your own!
Dr. Chamberlin is a very nice person but not the best professor. Incredibly disorganized, the semester was a mess and extremely hard to keep up with. You spent just as much time trying to figure out what was going on as you did actually submitting assignments and studying. To her, valid tech issues were not acceptable even tho class was ONLINE.
Dr. Chamberlin is a very caring professor and will tell you well in advance what is due, and when. She drops the lowest test grade, there are in-class quizzes you have to be in attendance for, one project, and the homework has a deadline. The exams are hard but manageable. I really enjoyed her class, wish more professors were like her!
Love, love, loved Dr. Chamberlin! She is an incredibly kind person and a very knowledgeable professor. The class is very straightforward and you know what to expect. Would definitely take again!
What an angel of a women, so smart and really cares about her students.
Most students take Biochem for grad or med school and this is the perfect class to knock out a prerequisite. 60% of grade comes from tests. 5 tests total with no final. Lowest drops. The rest of the 40% is pretty much given if you do the work. Tests are fair and manageable. If you can't get a least a B I would seriously reconsider grad school.
Dr. Chamberlin was extremely helpful whenever I had any questions about the course. She is accommodating and understanding, this course was online because of covid. Every quiz you have a practice quiz, quiz and chance for a redo - the last 2 you keep the highest grade. Your lowest exam score is dropped. All around a great professor.
This professor was always picky on Dual enrollment students, even though she was usually nice, her tests and lectures are extremely hard, I HAVE NOT LEARNED ANYTHING DURING THE LECTURES, I do not recommend her to anyone, She would pick on me for sitting in the back and would tell me to be better when I was one of the few to have an A in the class.
She cares a lot about her students and doesn't grade very harshly. The tests are pretty hard but if you get 65 average in tests and do everything else you will get at least a B.
Professor Chamberlin is a very caring teacher and genuinely wants you to understand. She reads her students, so be sure to give a good impression, take notes. She gives 100 for almost everything that is not an exam. Overall a very kind and understanding teacher.
I had this professor for chm 111 and 112. She always helps her students with any questions they have and does her best to make sure we get good grades. She went above and beyond for us and really made chemistry enjoyable. She would also constantly ask us how to make the class better and how to make learning more fun. I would recommend you take her
I WON'T RECOMMEND HER AT ALL. She is the worst professor ever. I'm a really good student and was maintaining all A's so far. She is very disorganized and her lecture slides make no sense. There are tons of worksheets and assignments. Her exams are weird though and she didn't even cover that in the lecture. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME.
The Worst professor ever. Her exams are insanely hard and lectures make no sense.
Im going to be honest, im not a chemistry person at all. Its never been my thing, and high school chemistry haunts me to this day. But Professor Chamberlin is a great teacher, and you can tell the minute that she speaks that she is passionate about chemistry. She's very understanding, and kind and its clear that she cares about her students.
Beginning of the semester can be a little rocky but once the rhythm is found, things fall into place. For review: Lectures are recorded and posted online plus practice exams with keys. Extra credit is given near the end of the semester, and bonus credit questions on some exams. Easy class if you have good math foundations, and if not, she'll help.
I found her to be consistently friendly, positive, helpful, willing to explain. Provided a break after about midway through the 3hr lecture; provides practice exams before each exam so there is good prep; McMillan Achieve HW in addition to providing explanations during lab. I would take her for CHM 112 but scheduling conflict. Positive experience!
Professor Chamberlin is such a kind, caring, logical, and knowledgeable person. I did most of my learning through the online textbook, but her review lectures a great as well. Does not take attendence for lectures but you must show up to labs. She is super nice and flexible with her students, so respect her, that is all that she asks.
The problem with this class is that its often 6 hours of lecture a week. It's impossible to be an efficient educator when the classes are so long. However, she is really understanding. Due dates don't really exist as long as you have everything in by the end of the year. Chem itself is difficult but she makes it's as east as possible.
She's the best professor for chemistry! I had a bad experience with chemistry in high school and was nervous coming into CHM 111 in college. She returned my confidence in my chemistry abilities and I did well in this class. Her lectures are well organized and accessible, and shes the most caring and understanding professor I've ever had.
Dr.Chamberlin is a great professor if you are looking to learn something.
Professor Chamberlin is a very nice and caring professor, she responds to emails fast and the exams are like her lectures, she wants to help the students to pass her class so that's why I am taking her again next semester, I wish all the teachers were like her.
Lot of homework: doable, just set time aside for it. She never takes points off for late work even if you turn it in the last week of the semester. As long as you show effort in your work, you'll get 100 on everything besides the tests. She gives out a cheat sheet with common conversions on each test. Open to questions, and cares about her students
I took this prof again for CHM112. I truly appreciate that she records and posts every lecture as review material. Its been incredibly helpful PLUS she posts powerpoints, practice exams, keys, AND extra credit opportunities. CHM112 is harder, but she made it doable with her passion to make sure her students understand the material. Gonna miss this.
This professor is hands down the most caring and loving professor I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. She lectures through slides that she has posted whenever you want to look back on them. She records the classes if you need them. One hw assignment for each chapter. 4 tests 1 final not difficult at all as long as you put in some effort.
I used to not like chemistry. That being said, Professor Chamberlin has to be my favorite professor at nova. She is so knowledgeable and kind, and her passion for chemistry is so clear from how she speaks. If you want a professor that truly cares about her students. TAKE HER. Chemistry isn't so bad after all, Thanks Dr. Chamberlin!!
Love love love her!!! Dr. Chamberlin is such a sweetheart and she is able to explain the most complicated materials in the most simplest ways. Thats one thing I loved about her class, she really didn't overcomplicate things that didn't need to be. Ive learned so much, and im so glad I took her for both 111 and 112.
Amazing! I go to vcu full time but wanted to take a summer class closer to home in nova. I wish more professors were like her. Extra credit on top of leniency for deadlines. Can be a little snappy with email responses but it makes sense since my section was all online and everything is explained in sylly. Exams are hard! Answers are in powerpts.
Professor Chamberlin was an amazing professor whom I had for both CHM 111 and CHM 112. She offered lots of extra credit opportunities and leniency for test grading. She's always happy to help you and is very nice with the way she assists you.
Do NOT take her. I dropped her class after a rude interaction with her when I was just asking for her help. She clearly does not care about the students and their education and needs to switch fields.
Horrible Professor. I had emailed her saying that I would be absent because of a family situation; she did not respond, and made no effort to reach out. When I came back to the next class I asked a question related to the topic we were discussing (didn't interrupt her; raised my hand), and she told me to shut up and then she started laughing.
She is a nice teacher, but she easily gets mad and yells. You get online exams (camera and mic on). Her handwriting is difficult to read, some letters look like numbers and number look like letters. I did self teaching because the way she explains is confusing and when she writes examples, for me I just didnt understand and I self taught myself.
didn't show up to class prepared to teach and despises repeating concepts even when no one understands. The tests were adequate, but you could learn more quickly on your own if you did not attend lectures. Keep track of your lab and homework assignments; they quickly add up. Her handwriting is IMPOSSIBLE to read.
Handwriting is bad, doesn't go over things well if at all, few things to grade, doesn't teach well either. Gets mad when we ask questions because she thinks the textbook will answer everything for us. (It doesn't)
She can be sweet and funny but obviously has ADHD and often gets confused or overwhelmed.
4 tests, 1 final, can write any information on formula sheets for all exams, homework on achieve (most important), as well as pre-labs, there is class participation for every class, class is hybrid so sometimes zoom, sometimes in person. Labs are easy she helps with them if you ask, hw packets are done in class, just listen in class
Professor Chamberlin is a great professor overall, and I had a pleasant experience. However, she does go through the lecture really fast sometimes and you would have to teach yourself later. She cares about her students though and is easily approachable inside or outside of class. I would take her again.
took for chm 111 and 112, 4 exams, 1 final, can write what ever u want on formula sheets for exams, hw is REAL chem- kinda annoying to use, prof helps with labs when u ask, LOT of extra credit, pay attention in class, fast paced that 111, allows test corrections for an exam, drops lowest exam, worksheets done in class, BEST chem prof at NOVA trust
Great class if you need an easy science elective, especially if you took chem in high school. I didn't use the textbook, but i'm sure it would be helpful if you needed it. Labs were through Pivot. Quizzes on Achieve. 5 total exams, lowest score dropped. More exams=less to memorize and we were allowed to use a formula sheet. Absolutely Wonderful!
Professor Chamberlin is great, the class was easy as long as you stayed driven to learn and do the assignments. I took a 12-week online course and it was a breeze. 4- tests 1- final (chapter quiz for every chapter, plus labs, and extra credit)
Prof Chamberlin is amazing - she breaks down complex topics clearly and is always happy to help. Using Unstuckstudy alongside the course materials made study prep a breeze. Highly recommend taking her class!
I took her for CHM 101 online, she is very responsive and lenient. If you need extra help she will set up office hours. She does extra credit and gives extra points on tests. The course is a bit harder bc you're teaching yourself instead of having an in person or zoom lecture but she uploads her in person lectures too in order to help.
I took Biochemistry through NOVA to fulfill a prerequisite credit. This class was fully asynchronous, but I cannot recommend Dr. Chamberlin enough for how informative, helpful, and engaged she was during this session. She always made herself available to students as a resource and was invested in our success. Highly recommend!
