AMAZING teacher! To be able to get a bunch of teens to care about plants is a feat only he can manage. He made class interesting and half of my notes had "LMAO" written in it somewhere as I wrote down a metaphor he used that actually made sense! He doesn't like textbooks, which is great, but it means you should go to class!

Easily one of the best profs in the department. Absolute genius and really funny. Attending class isn't mandatory but you should go, most of his exam questions are from lecture and he is actually really easy to listen to and learn from.

He is a little odd, but really good prof! You should go to lectures (sometimes will take attendance) but if you don't you can get an easy A. I would recommend anyone in biology trying to get an easy A!

I owe Mihai my current interest in plants and I took ALL his courses; he makes things look fun and easy but the comment below is empty bragging. Yeah, BI464 (Plants & People) was much easier this year but this was because he took pity on us and removed the cumulative final, otherwise that wouldn't have been such an 'easy A'.

Mihai is so passionate that he makes studying plants fun and interesting. You can tell that he really cares about his students. The material is sometimes difficult to grasp (for us people that plants don't come naturally to), but his courses are made so that if you put in the effort the grade will come.

He is an amazing professor. Take really good notes based off of what he's saying during lecture, and then run through those notes while you look at his slides. Ask him for help if you need it, he's really easy to talk to. Overall, he is one of the best profs I have had.

Woau, amazing prof! The plant field course was best I have ever taken at Laurier and it opened an entirely new world of possibilities for me. Final assignments were hard but I learned a lot.

Easily my fave prof. He doesn't make you buy the textbook and the lecture notes are enough to get you an A on the midterm and the final. In lecture he gives you practice test questions which ended up being some of the actual test questions. He's got a sense of humour and loves plants and he'll probably make you love them too.

Great lectures, excellent notes (no textbook in a 2nd year class!) and super helpful. Makes plants look cool and interesting, which I would have never thought possible. One of the best teachers I've ever had.

Mihai is a solid teacher. You can see that he is very passionate about plants. He gives lots of room for extra credit, but I don't feel this is necessary because Mihai makes it almost impossible for a student who attends class to achieve anything but a A grade. The only thing that I wasn't to excited about was the lab portion of this course.

Dr Costea is a pretty great prof. He tries his best to make lectures about plants interesting, he is very knowledgeable and he gives lots of extra credit! He has an accent that some people find difficult to understand, but I didn't find it to be a problem at all. The lab was pretty easy too!

One of the best Biology professors at Laurier - truly a plant genius. Very original and engaging lectures. Creates all the conditions for you to do great in the course if you attend classes, study and take advantage of the bonus assignments. I took all his courses.

Great prof, gave me a newfound interest in plants, 4th course I've taken with him. Lectures are well written, clear and concise, interesting, and delivered wonderfully. He's hilarious and makes many jokes, lectures seem light hearted and natural. Slides have all the information needed, anything extra to know he either puts in the notes or tells you

Dr. Costea is a wonderful professor, one of the best at Laurier. This is my second class with him, his energy and passion make for an enjoyable class. Approachable and gave really good explanations. There should be more plant courses for him to teach!!!

Such an awesome professor! Compared to some of the others I've had who seem to just put up slides and read off of them he was so enthusiastic and actually cares about his students. If you go to class you'll do great, his slides are informative and he's so good at answering questions. Also, so happy that there was no $250 textbook!!

Professor Costea is an amazing professor who truly cares about his students. This class was mandatory for my program but ended up being one of my favourite classes. Costea is a fair marker and all of his quizzes and tests are open book. Overall an amazing guy and would recommend this course to anybody... science student or not.

Amazing professor! This class was fun and interesting despite all the plant anatomy content; I find myself remembering a lot more compared to other courses two weeks after the final exam.

The best prof at Laurier hands down! Mihai has great lectures and an even better sense of humor. He was very accommodating during the Fall 2020 online semester, is fair in his grading, and gives you lots of chances to improve your grade. I hope he teaches more courses in the future, and I 100% recommend him for any of his current courses!

The sweetest prof at Laurier by far! He truly cares about his students, and he's super friendly! His 8am lectures were engaging and interesting,-and his exams were very easy. If you come to lecture and listen, you will do great! I'm taking his BI464 course now and I LOVE it so far! I really only have great things to say about Dr. Costea! :)

Dr. Costea is the BEST and this course is so much fun: lots of stories about different plant uses throughout humans history and in present times. Quizzes and midterms are open-book with no lockdown browser and camera surveillance.

Pretty difficult and dry content, but Dr. Costea manages to make it palatable.

I dont usually write reviews, but Dr. Mihai is my favorite in a department with already several great professors. He is passionate about plants and cares about his students. His courses (this is the 4th I take), are all well-organized and clear; he is kind and accommodating. I can only think good stuff about him.

I enjoyed both BI464 and BI468 this last winter. I always looked forward to attending the online lectures because Dr. Mihai is so engaging. I have taken three courses with him now and each course has made me appreciate more the plants. Thank you for being you, Dr. Mihai.

One of the best professors I have ever had the joy of having. Mihai was so caring and understanding during the pandemic and did everything in his power to help his students do well in his course. He gave me a whole new love for plants and biology. If you can, take a course with him. He is a sweetheart all around.

The most caring professor I've ever had. Super accommodating and understanding. He teaches the material in a very intriguing way and you can tell he really loves what he does. One of my only WLU profs that actually puts time into developing material and test questions. He doesn't have a bad bone in his body. Everyone take his classes.

Great prof and gives very engaging lectures. He wants his students to do well and is passionate about plants! He's very accommodating and helpful if you have questions. There's also room for extra credit. BI266 was taught well. Only thing to warn you about: the LAB is very difficult and significantly lowers your overall grade.

Dr. Costea had very personalized lectures, not the regular takeout from textbooks that other profs are using. Very helpful and engaging overall; I wish more professors would be like that.

The lab portion of the course was very difficult and messy (especially online), but the lectures were surprisingly interesting. Dr. Mihai is a great prof, very understanding and quick to help if asked. I would definitely took other courses taught by this professor.

I took plant biology initially because other courses I wanted were filled. After taking this course with Dr. Costea, I am shocked by how interested I am in plant biology now. His lectures are inspiring and fill you with a curious wonder not seen in many courses. If you have a chance to take any course with Dr. Costea, you will be glad you did.

I highly recommend taking a course with Dr. Costea. This course is similar to plants and people however, it is more of a challenge (he warned us at the very beginning of the semester). He gives many opportunities to get bonus marks (book bonus + various bonus quizzes). One of my favourite professors at Laurier that is very approachable!

Sooo many families, genera, species and BI468 was not that easy even with open book midterms, but Dr. Mihai made the content attractive. Walking on the street I cannot help but trying to recognize the plants LOL.

History student here. I would not have thought Plants and People will be so interesting. Highly recommend to any non-bio majors. This was one of the best profs I had the pleasure of having at Laurier.

BI367 was the most useful course I took at Laurier and Mihai (the prof) and Corey (the TA) were amazing. I find myself knowing or being able to identify most plants around. A word of caution though: the assignments after the field course was over were brutal. If you work full time in a demanding job, they are a killer.

Loved Dr. Mihai and his course on intro plants. I find myself noticing more plants and looking at them differently after this course.

One of my favorite profs. He had engaging lectures (never read off the slides all the info you needed is on downloaded version of PowerPoint) and knows what he is talking about. Attendance is recommended- he goes over potential quiz/exam questions. He's approachable and genuinely takes interest in his students and how he can better help them.

Best prof at Laurier. He is so caring and does everything he can to make sure his students do well. His quizzes and exams are fair and easy as long as you're familiar with the lecture content. He also gives a book bonus to bump up your mark. Very approachable, funny, kind, and truly loves what he does.

Dr. Costea clearly loves to teach! His lectures were so funny and really engaging, even people who don't care about botany could find themselves interested. I recommend this course to everyone even just for the entertaining lectures :) made my whole term!

Dr. Costa is an excellent prof and I would give the lecture component 9.5/10. However, the lab component is difficult in terms of the lab quizzes and lab exam due to Dr. Ma making questions more confusing and difficult than they should be. The actual in-lab assignments were pretty easy and the TA's were helpful.

Awesome professor who manages to make a not so popular topic (plant bio) interesting. I definitely notice more plants after this course, and I look at them differently. Will definitely take more courses with Dr. Costea.

He is the best professor I have had at Laurier, he really cares about how you do. Provides notes for the lecture and every quiz/midterm was based entirely on the notes and open book. Going to class will clarify things though and he always tries to make it interesting. He is really passionate about what he teaches, the lab will be the hardest part.

Mihai was amazing! Despite having class online at 8:30am he always made the time entertaining and fun. His content wasn't overly difficult but was still challenging. If you actively put in the work you got a good grade. I can't say enough great things about him!

Prof Mihai is incredible!! Made me thoroughly enjoy intro plants even though I was never interested in this subject. Lectures are clear, engaging and often funny. All the quizzes and midterms are online and open book, always with some bonus attached. The lab is hard, but it largely backs up the lectures.

This review is for the plant field course, which was absolutely amazing. The final assignments, however, especially the ID key, were HUGE and took a lot of time to complete. It was fun to watch Mihai beat the identification apps every single time.

Professor Mihai made this class surprisingly enjoyable. His lectures are clear and engaging, and he's genuinely passionate about the content. Quizzes and exams are fair, and using tools like Unstuckstudy can be a big help for study prep.

BI266 was super interesting with this prof, quizzes are super easy as long as you look over the notes, add as many pictures as you can on your cheat sheets!

I am no expert in plants and going into it, I thought it would be my worst class but it ended up being one of my best classes and it was mainly because of this prof.
