Dont bring a cell phone. Mandatory dismissal from class. He is not kidding. Good Teacher. Very Helpful, fast paced course. Lots of homework.
Very good professor, and like so many teachers at hacc, has an awesome accent. Does a great job at keeping things simple. Does not grade homework or give students surprises. Definitely worth taking.
Awesome prof. He explains things very well. Go to class and pay attention. If you do, you should do well. P.S. don't buy the book, only the workbook!
Great prof, helps with questions. No no no cell phones!! Also like mentioned only buy workbook. Great class.
He was a good and fair teacher, show up, listen, pay attention and for god sakes do the workbook!!! if you don't you will be lost! The textbook is useless! but his workbook is golden for his class. good luck~! and definately know your keynsian!
as stated unless you want to become an economics historian only buy the work book . then do every problem and practice quiz in that thing . show up and either don't bring your cell or have the thing disabled not just turned off
This class is hard as it is, do not skip and think you'll be fine. BUY THE WORKBOOK!! it will save your life. Do NOT even think to check your cellphone. When he says he will ask you to leave he means that. Awesome teacher come to class, pay attention, take notes and do the Workbook if you do that you will pass with no trouble.
great professor. I got an A even when I do not have to learn too hard. pay attention in class and do all homework. you will be fine.only use workbook and NEVER even check your cell phone.
Great teacher. Took a lot of class time to go over homework problems if anyone didn't understand. Don't bother to buy the textbook - didn't open it once, however, the workbook is essential. Homework is not graded, but if you don't do the workbook, there is no way you will pass. Tests resemble workbook. NO CELL PHONES!!!
Amazing professor. I was skeptical about buying the book at first, and now I regret I did. Seriously, DO NOT buy the book, however, BUY THE WORKBOOK. That thing has helped me out tremendously. Easy to follow teaching style and he goes the right pace. He is always willing to go back over things without a problem if your behind.
Fantastic professor!! One of the best. Very helpful and truly wants you to understand the material. I didn't use his textbook at all, but the workbook has all of the homework. HW is not graded, but you're quizzed on the HW material every class. Great, but challenging class! Also, he kicks you out of class if he sees youre cell phone!
He's such an AWESOME professor!!! One of the best that I've had..he takes his time in teaching and takes extra time for material students don't understand! DO NOT BUY the textbook, useless :) but DO BUY THE WORKBOOK!!! Pay attention in class, do homework, and you're guaranteed an A if not, the least you will get is a B. Challenging but Fun class!:)
He is an AWESOME professor but I failed the class becuase I bought the textbook and never read it. I retook the class this semester and got an A because I read the textbook. It teaches so much he doesn't even talk about. This class is really easy if you read the textbook NOT the workbook (that is useless). The workbook only has homework.
Wonderful professor! More interested that students understand than in keeping to the schedule. Will answer any question. Is available in office hours and answers emails quickly. Learned a lot and would take him again in a heartbeat! Couldn't recommend him more if I tried. :)
Most I like is that the class is pretty easy, he's good on explaining things, and it's all power point so you don't have to take notes.
Professor Balic is awesome. I went out and bought the textbook just to be safe but we didn't use it at all. Pay attention, turn your cell phone off, & you shouldn't have any problems. Class was actually fun in my opinion. 60% of your grade will come from 3 exams, 25% from the final, and 15% from quizzes and participation.
Mr. Balic is a great teacher! I enjoyed his class. You have to do the work or you will not pass. But he is very helpful and patient.
He is an ok professor, not great, not horrible, just ok. If he even sees your cell phone, you will be removed from class. Quizzes are pretty tough, tests are much worse. Id recommend taking it with another professor if you can.
He was a very good professor; the best professor I have ever taken at HACC. If you pay attention, and do the workbook exorcises, you will have no problem getting an A. If you ever need any clarification, he will do a 1 on 1 convo after class. He is very Keynesian, but he does show varying opinions throughout the class. Buy the workbook, not textb.
Great teacher. Horrible class structure. There are only 3 exams and then the final, a few quizzes, and the homework you do isn't graded. There is way too much content to study on one test. He's a great teacher, but if I had to chose all over again I would pick someone else.
This was a hard class to take online. I used my book religiously. Reused quiz questions on tests, but also made new ones. Ask questions for participation score, and go over the practice quizzes and actual quizzes for tests. Class isn't hard if you apply yourself. It's online so you do have to do most of the work yourself. Helps when you ask for it.
Wonderful professor. Very humorous and outgoing. Don't bother buying the textbook, do buy the workbook. Test after each homework assignment for the most part. Do the homework & review tests and come to class and you'll pass.
Fantastic professor. Explained clearly-willing to explain multiple times or other way if not understand, without making you feel stupid. Text book not needed if you pay attention in class & take good notes. Workbook is a must. Tests are very hard - must study!
This class is pretty hard. Your grade comes from the few tests and quizzes you have, and there not easy. Make sure to go to class and study the notes and workbook. Also if he sees/hears your phone you'll be removed from class
must buy workbook textbook not used in class. pop quiz every other week. hard to follow at times must study. no extra credit!
Balic was one of my favorite professors. I had him for both macro and micro economics. If you go to class and pay attention, you will receive a good grade. You do not need the textbook, but the work book is a must. I bought the textbook and didn't pick it up once.
Although the class can be quite difficult at times, the professor is always there and willing to clarify ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. He truly cares about his students' performance. Like others have said, textbook not needed, but workbook is. Overall, great professor.
Wasn't very helpful for the online course. If you had a question, you were referred back to the book. The class discussions were not organized. The tests were my saving grace, those were easy, as were the weekly quizzes. You need to read the text book though. A lot of memorizing. Not the best professor, but he wasn't the worst by far.
Highly recommend Professor Balic. Very helpful and will explain everything that you have questions about. You don't need the textbook. He uses a workbook for the course. By doing your homework and taking notes you will do well in this class.
DO NOT buy the textbook if you are tight on money. The workbook is essential and it is what he tells you to use to study for tests. Most of the questions on the test are straight from the workbook. Good prof, he will answer any questions you have but you must complete the homework. I had to work for the A but I got it!
you really need to study for this class, don't need the book only the workbook.
He is serious about his cellphone policy! He is a very good person and will help you out with anything that you need. His door is always open if you need to talk to him about course work or anything else. I would take him again, he is tough and will make you earn it but also teaches everything you need to know. If you don't show up you wont pass.
Had econ both online and in class with Balic. I would highly recommend doing the on-campus class, some courses are tough to do online regardless of prof. Good teacher though, doesn't mind (re)explaining or elaborating after class. His accent isn't very thick but I always loved how he says "zero" though.... "see-rah" Great prof all in all.
This teacher is a nightmare. He gives pop quizzes every other class period, I take my tests outside of class and he didn't get my test to the room like he was supposed to. When questioned about it, he said I needed to follow up with him. None of my other teachers needed a follow up, I handed him the notice like I did with all my teachers. Awful.
This teacher is really rude. He encourages his students to participate in class and ask questions and when you do, he puts you down in poor efforts to be funny. I asked how much a test we took would hurt our grade (I didn't do too well) and he said "is this question you publically admitting you did poorly?" He didn't have to answer like that.
Professor Balic is the king of quizzes however, he tells you up front there are several quizzes so they really can't be called "pop" quizzes. He always reminds us that if we need help he is available after class and various times throughout the day. Not many Professors offer themselves to help their students this much. I recommend his class.
This professor on line does not help in the content material and does not give proper feed back to course study material. If you are good learner with the cengage and book you will do well. Not guidance for test material gives several chapter test with not study guides.
He's a really good teacher. I highly recommend taking him ONLY if you don't mind homework and studying. The class is pretty hard but as long as you do homework, you should pass. He always goes over any questions you may have in class and is really good about being available to help outside of class.
Professor Balic is a great teacher and wants you to succeed, his lectures are long, but if you pay attention, take notes, and study, you should be fine
I found the reviews on here to be very deceptively positive. I always check the reviews before choosing professors because I'd had a few that weren't too great. Despite very good reviews this teacher was a total nightmare. Lots of pop quizzes, lots of tricks and games played with your grade, and a superiority complex. Was not a fun class with him.
He is so heartless, and he thinks he is a good professor. The worst professor ever!
I can't understand the way he teaches. Worst!
KING OF POPQUIZ
Great professor who helps students who put in the effort. You can expect a lot of pop quizzes, but they're fairly easy if you do the homework. He has a strict no cellphone policy and will kick you out of class if he sees or hears your phone. Overall, very good professor and I learned a lot from him over my two semesters with him.
too hard
Keeps class fun. Can be hard to follow at times but will always stick around to answer questions
great professor, gives a good feedback. all you have to do is to do the homework he assigned, and read the workbook. after every homework assigned, u might get a quiz. textbook is not used. dont buy it
Don't buy the text book. Lectures give all the info you need. I only had to read the workbook for a few chapters to understand better. Lots of HW but VERY helpful. Quizzes after HW 99% of times. NO CELL PHONES. He is a nice guy.
Best professor I've ever had!! His lectures are fairly easy if you are paying attention and taking notes. Always open to questions, so if you are confused just ask and he'll explain it better. Lots of homework and quizzes but they are helpful in understanding the material. However he's very strict with his cell phone policy and will kick you out.
Took him for econ 201, the course was fairly easy, didn't have to ask the professor many questions but when I did he answered within a day or so.
I shall be as objective as humanly possible. Prof Balic is a phenomenal instructor. HOWEVER, he has a peculiar distaste for phones and I'm being generous there. A cautionary thing to do before entering his class is bury your phone 6feet under ground. Also, don't fall asleep, don't leave the class to get "water" you Will be kicked out. POP QUIZZES!
I had him for Economics 201. It's a fun class if you really pay attention to the details, he doesn't get to much into the math, however it will be on the tests so you must go above and beyond in the workbook if you aren't mathematically inclined. Not very much homework, and it's easy anyways. He will kick you out of class for any disruptions!
Great professor. He does have a strict cell phone policy. Tests make up 85% of the final grade. I never opened my textbook in this class, but I did use the entire workbook. Workbook exercises will help you learn and understand the material. The workbook will also help you do better on the tests. He will help you if you need help.
Straight forward econ course. Good prof, won't weight you down with useless assignments and busy work. I would take this prof again.
Online class. No lectures. It is all using the book and the online software. You teach yourself in this class online. The tests are most of your grade. Nothing else really matters. Extra credit is offered.
Got an A in Economics 201 &went into this class feeling confident after reading decent reviews on Mihajlo. Those reviews were quite deceptive. Difficult to learn from this professor. I studied the workbook & textbook hard & continuously got D's and C's on exams. His explanations were lacking. In office hours told me "just work harder". Withdrew.
Econ is not a subject that ever came easy to me (I took Macro twice & hired a tutor). I signed up for Balic's class w/ some apprehension. However, he is the best economics teacher I have ever had "hands down!" If you want an Easy A, this is not the class for you; however, if you want to learn the material take him. Also, don't skip class to often!
Worst professor I've ever had. He's careless, he puts the classes grade averages on the board after each test and half of the class had F's. Hard to follow what he teaches, he picks on students for not knowing the material and I wouldn't recommend him to anyone who isn't the best at econ.
Doesn't explained well.
I was confident going into this class after reading positive reviews on here. The professor was very helpful when I had questions, but tests are basically your entire grade and they are nothing compared to the textbook. I felt like I was taking the wrong tests. He does offer extra credit though, thank God.
Would advise against taking. expects you to know economics before even attending the class, too advanced for the credit needed
Great professor if you actually try. I did not really try at the beginning of the semester which is my fault however once you noticed I was trying he did go easier on me.
Gives good in class discussion hard tester, likes pop quizzes.
Took online, terrible idea. Get ready to teach yourself economics as the professor is more of a "facilitator" than actual professor. Grading scale is ridiculous...3 exams which make up 75% of your grade. There are ten 20 question quizzes, each only worth 1.43 points toward your grade! Huh? Oh, and exams are proctored at the test center. Good luck.
One of the hardest class I have ever taken. Only puts grades of exams and quiz. If you are not good with taking exams and quiz on scan-tron then, this class will be really hard.
Balic is the best ECON Professor Ive ever had. I would 10/10 recommend taking him. He cracks a lot of jokes and includes his classmates in his lectures which make them fun. He never gets frustrated if you dont understand something and is accessible during office hours. Loved taking this class! Made me want to go into economics later in life!
Great professor, just microeconomics is super difficult for me to understand. He is accessible outside of class and does give good feedback if you have questions. He does crack some jokes every once in a while.
This was my 2nd time taking an Econ class and it was harder than I remember. Professor has an accent, but tries to cover it up and sounds like a robot, which makes lectures monotonous. Gives fast paced lectures, makes it hard to keep up. "Pop quizzes" almost every class! Anti-Trump. LOL Seemed more concerned with recruiting for study abroad trip.
He is a great professor to have. He is extremely knowledgeable and is great with helping everyone understand. His class was fun and engaging. You will need to study tho but if you do youll be fine. The homework isnt bad and its actually very helpful. Overall his style of teaching is just very effective and you will learn the material easily.
To qualify, I have been enrolled in economics courses before this so my grade might not accurately represent the average student. However, Professor Balic is an amazing professor who teaches wonderful lectures that are very enjoyable to sit through and be apart of. If you are going to succeed you must complete your homework and participate in class
Took this class online. It was a 6 week accelerated course. Lots of work but Prof. Balic was very accommodating in answering questions over Zoom. This class was a little easier for me because I had already taken micro before this and did very well. Test heavy, make sure you know material on quizzes and do well on them before attempting exams.
I took this class online, a terrible idea. Get ready to teach yourself economics as the professor is more of a "facilitator" than an actual professor. Grading for the class is ludicrous. 75% of the grade is based of 3 exams. If you do not do well on test or timed quizzes, stay away.
Professor Balic is not a bad professor, it was just that the class was really tough. The online textbook and his notes do not provide the information that he puts on the exams and quizzes. The quizzes/exams are all very tough, and make up most of your grade. All in all, not a class I would take again.
His explanations for everything made no sense most of the time. It was like he was explaining to people who had a background for ECON. Exams were extremely difficult. Quizzes were also hard. He calls on you randomly which makes you feel stupid if you don't know the answer.
Professor Balic is a good professor. He teaches a hard subject as best he can and is prompt when answering emails. He'll answer any questions you have. My main complaint is the lack of ways to practice the math involved. You get a practice quiz each week that you can retry infinitely, but that's all as far as worksheets go. Would take him again.
Took both Micro and Macro with Professor Balic and was not at all disappointed. Economics is not an easy class however may students make the mistake of not reaching out for help. Professor Balic was only an email away from extra help. He's always down to help you with any questions, you just have to meet him half way with your concerns. I recommend
Professor Balic teaches a tough subject, but he does his best to make it work. I took an accelerated summer course for MicroEconomics and wound up with an A because he has a very efficient system for practicing. You can take a practice test each week as many times as you like before taking the final graded version. Offers extra credit on exams.
It's a fine class and professor, just a lot of reading. What got me was that the online tests needed to be proctored. I understand that it is a way to prevent cheating, but as someone with very poor internet, it was a huge hassle. I had to schedule times to visit my high school and family members to use their wifi because mine wasn't good enough.
I took this class as virtual. Class was just reading multiple chapters, taking the quizzes, then after about 4 chapters, doing a practice quiz and the chapter test which is proctored. This is a heavily "teach yourself" class where you just have to read to understand. He gives plenty of time to actually take the test so you can study.
Professor Balic is very understanding to student needs. He will go out of his way to help. He has clear expectations and the content was difficult for me. He ensured to meet with me during a mutually agreed upon time to help me understand the topic and work on understanding the material. He is very open to answering questions and cares.
This is the WOSRT class I have ever taken; by far no questions asked. The book is pretty much useless and over a zoom call, because I needed help, he told me to not look over it and just watch his videos. However, throughout the class you're going to find his videos to make a lot of sense however you have nothing to practice off of until the exams
This class is heavily based on the text book, and has proctored exams. However, the practice exams more than prepare you to do very well on the exams. I had mixed feelings walking into the class based on the reviews, but as someone else said, most of the negative reviews are likely from people who are upset they can't cheat on the exams.
I really struggled with this class. However he tutor me helping me with my homework at least twice a week if not more, during office hours. He is more than willing to help, you will need the workbook. Homework is basically what the test is like and in the workbook their are practice test in the back of the books.
Professor Balic was a good professor. He is always willing to help whenever he's available. You must pay attention his class. If you wanna be successful in his class, do the homework, and the practice exams should prepare you well before exam day.
Professor Balic was one of my favorite professors. We had great class discussions and he's very good at teaching and helping students understand material. He's always willing to make time for office hours. It's not an easy class but if you study and pay attention, you will do well. The workbook you need, but the textbook was a waste of money.
Good class if you are prepared and keep up with the lecturers. He records the lectures which makes it easy whenever it's time to review for a test or just for extra studying. Extra credit depends on how focused you are in the class and to what he's talking about. Lots of homework though. Still, you could get an A if you keep up with the class.
Average class overall. I took it online and he recorded the whole meeting which helped with going back to the material again. The workbook was mostly useless and he used it to just give homework from. Lots of homework. If you pay attention to the class, you can get the chance to answer the random extra credit questions he usually asks.
I had a very bad experience with this professor. In my entire live, since kindergarten I never met an instructor like him, who does his best to make you fail. I was wondering if it is a racism or something else.
HATED this class! Though I knew the material the 1st few weeks but failed all the quizzes. Quiz and exam questions are trick questions, you have to know VERY specific details for the right answer. LOTS OF HW. If you show up you get 100 for participation. Nice guy, had a party for us at end of semester but I'd never willingly take this professor
This dudes lectures and homework had almost nothing to do with his exams
Even though his class is difficult he makes sure to have office hours so you have time apart from the class with him, your grades depend on the exams and participation he does not collect the homework but is talked about in class. You need to pay attention because he randomly called you out to ask you a question.
Professor Balic is a great professor. His lectures were easy to follow, and very interesting. He has a good sense of humor and communicates well with his students. All the quizzes and exams are straightforward, multiple-choice questions, and you know what to expect from them. He even got my class donuts and muffins towards the end of the semester!
Professor Balic was a very nice and outgoing professor. Most of the class is lectures, taking notes, doing homework, and quizzes. It is repetitive, but Professor Balic goes out of his way to try to make things interesting by engaging the class. Despite the class being difficult, I would retake his classes.
I took this class on zoom. Luckily I had a group of friends in it with me so we could help each other out with understanding the lectures. He has a thick accent and takes some getting used to. Tests are pretty difficult make sure to do the practice questions in the textbook. All exams were 40 multiple choice as well as final.
Each week is 1-3 chapters of the (free) textbook, a practice quiz (unlimited attempts, ungraded) and a graded quiz. He adds videos, usually stuff you need to know. (His accent isn't strong at all...?) Wish he moderated the discussions more bc a lot of it was people copy/pasting each other, or arguing politics. But if you pay attention, you'll pass.
Professor Balic is an outstanding professor! He has an accent but is still very understandable imo and is quite engaging and funny during his lectures. He loves to involve students and encourages asking questions during class. I knew exactly what to expect and felt his lectures prepared me for the quizzes and exams. Highly recommend, awesome dude.
The class was entirely online and a learn it yourself kinda thing. He does provide videos of himself teaching the (in my opinion) topics that are on most of the quizzes/tests. I didn't use the textbook much and opted for the vocab and videos he provides to study!
The class I took was entirely online and very self-paced. He did provide videos of himself teaching some of the topics and in my opinion those videos helped very well. The extra credit you can earn can help your grade a lot. I didn't use the textbook much, I opted to using the vocab and videos he provides and those taught me well enough.
lecture heavy which is okay however he did call on random people during class so if you aren't comfortable with that i would recommend not taking the class. i found that if someone got the answer wrong there would be comments made that were unnecessary and could make people feel bad. the content was hard to follow if you aren't able to memorize.
do not take
I took his online class with live lectures, and he explained everything very straightforwardly and really helped clarify if you just asked. I did the practice exam he recommends before every exam, and got near-perfect scores on my exams. If I were required to take ECON201, I would surely go to him.
Economics is not an easy class and that was to be expected but Mr Balic was very nice and helpful. The Exams are hard but only if you don't study much. What makes him helpful is that he goes over the homework to refresh my memory about the chapter. He is also very quick to respond to emails.
Super understanding guy, didn't grade attendance but I highly recommend attending. If you pay attention in class, you barely need to study for the exams. He does a great job of explaining and covering material to prepare you. He gives hw, but it isn't graded so the class is exam heavy, but if you show up to class and pay attention, you'll do fine.
