She was a good professor when she actually taught the class. It was mostly student taught, with students giving presentation over every chapter. She sat back and facilitated discussion. It is not necessary to go to class since all of the presentations are on black board. Grade is based on a mid-term, final, and 2 projects.
She's a very awesome professor. She really cares about her students and wants you to succeed. She'll help you if you ask, but she is very clear and true to the text, also posts lectures on blackboard. She really sets students up to succeed. Avg. class score on most tests was in the 80's.
if you come to class and pay attention you'll get by with no less than a B. Read the text and study a bit, you'll get an A no problem. She's very nice and willing to help!
Excellent professor, is passionate about teaching, makes things easy for students, and is really friendly. Quite possibly the best psych professor at gvsu. 3 exams, (can drop 1) and offers extra credit.
Extremely nice person! Very understanding and works hard to give her students a good education. I would recommend her classes to anyone!
She is very nice and helpful and the class is not hard. Her exams are generated by the book so if you read the book you should do well on the exam.
She's great...very knowledgeable, cute but understandable accent, great fashion sense. She's a good prof. and an A is definitely manageable even for those of us who aren't psych nerds. Just put in a little effort and you'll do great.
She is very nice and understanding. I found her grading to be unclear. Although I felt she was quite lenient on papers and tests, the grading for quizzes was more harsh. Testing knowledge in a debating class is difficult to do, though. Be wary of the class more than the professor, some students seemed to think they were attending group therapy.
Excellent prof...a real sweetheart. You can drop one exam which is nice. The tests aren't hard at all and are easy to cram for the night before. Even gave extra credit to boost grades at the end of the semester. Good fashion sense. It's kind of funny. When she walked into class each day, the girls would discuss her wardrobe.
She is extremely nice, but you must attend lecture and know background information on the material. She talks extremely quiet so you have to sit near the front. Some test questions you cannot prepare for, rely on previous classes. She no longer drops your lowest test grade- beware!
In a class that is mostly debates, it was interesting to see how she couldn't think outside the box. If it wasn't a thought that was in her texts, she was lost. She's overly picky on her grading and seems to grade some people harder than others. I wasn't impressed.
I had her for a night class. She wasn't very interesting, and lingered on the same subject for too long, which made the class really slow. She wasn't a very fair grader on papers, too harsh. I feel like she teaches the opposite of what we're taught in wrt 150 classes. Interesting class, ok teacher.
Her tests and quizzes were really hard and I read all of the texts and textbooks. The questions are generated from the book but the wording were confusing. Beware to put a lot of effort in her class for a good grade.
Not my favorite prof, but out of all the other profs for this class, she's the best. Class can be boring and the tests are really hard. 2 exams, 1 magazine paper (short), final, and quizzes once in awhile. You need to go to lecture in order to do well and read the book. Sit toward the front, she talks quietly. Her accent is understandable.
Her exams are really hard and sometimes confusing but if you read the textbook very well and study all her class notes you'll do ok. You really have to put time into this class and not rely on just her teaching. She's an ok teacher but skips over her notes a lot and makes you read it in the book. She's very helpful and nice but you hav to try hard.
Good professor, knew the information well. Fairly easy to get a good grade if you try.
She is a VERY nice person and PSY 364 with her was a breeze. However, if you are only taking 311 to fulfill a major requirement and not out of interest, reconsider. LONG readings, BLAND discussions, daily quizzes not graded clearly (same goes for the essay exams). We did discuss ways she could improve the class so maybe things will change...
If you are the kind of person that wants a clue of what will be on the exam, this is not the professor to take. She is no help whatsoever, doesn't tell you at all what will be on the exams, and she refuses to listen to the class when you review the exam. Horrible professor! Do not take her if you can help it!
She seems to be nice but she only reads the power points and then there's barely anything from them on the test. All her tests are comprehensive. For the final she had 60 questions from old chapters and was useless as to what we had to know. She also won't listen to anyone in class and sometimes she has a slight deficiency in English. don't take!!
I didn't like this prof. You can't understand her and her tests cover information from the whole year. She reads the notes off the power point and her exams have NOTHING to do with the notes.
She teaches off the powerpoints and makes them available online which is nice but most of her questions aren't from the powerpoints! Compared to other Child Development classes this class is too hard, honors students couldn't even get A's! The exams have seemingly random information from the book that isn't ever discussed or even important, just st
Easy easy easy. she is very nice and entertaining. i only studied like an hour before the exams and got an A. look at the online questions from the book, she takes a lot of questions from there. EASY. 3 exams, 5 quizzes, 5 short (easy) assigments. very clear. TAKE HER!!!!
she's amazing. i loved this class! it's so easy to get a good grade while learning a ton. a few suggestions: do the online practice tests, she takes a lot of problems from that, read about concepts you don't understand in the book. otherwise, she's great...TAKE HER!!!
She was kind of mean. Not that great of a teacher either. I wouldn't recommend her.
She knows her information. She tries to be really clear about everything and make it all interesting. She's worth taking. Her accent can be a little tough to understand sometimes, but still worth it.
She's GREAT and super friendly! I was warned to take another teacher who teaches psych 364 who doesnt have exams, (there were 2 plus a final) but her exams were VERY EASY. I got a 50/50 on both. Great grade booster! She's also a fairly easy grader for the few homework assignments. Very easy A, very interesting class!! Would deffinitely reccommend!
Weekly mostly essay quizzes, 2 exams and 2 papers. Sporadic grading difficulty but usually easy. She doesn't take attendance but gets mad if people don't show up. She also doesn't like if you question her opinions. Skimming the readings for quizzes and 1/2h exam study were enough for an A but students some struggled.
Excellent prof; wish I could take her for 364 but it's unavailable! I looked forward to coming to class every day. There are weekly pop quizes, 2 exams, 1 paper which she gives extensive feedback on before it's turned in. Initially intimidating but fair and practiced in facilitating discussion. Generous grader! Lots of reading but I learned a lot!
She can be a little intimidating but is actually very nice. The class requires a lot of reading and weekly quizzes but if you don't procrastinate (especially on the final paper) it isn't that bad of a class. I enjoyed the discussions.
The class could be interesting, if you took it with another. She does not link the powerpoints to the tests in any way. Read the book and you will get an A.
Personally I enjoyed having her as a prof she's straightforward she tells you what she wants/likes/expects from you her test aren't too bad the subject matter is interesting she likes to do in class activites if nothing else they keep you awake
Not helpful when sending emails.
Fairly simple material and the tests were on the easier side, but the lectures were horribly boring and the powerpoints weren't very helpful. I found that when I read the book I understood the material more than how she explained it. If you have to take her, you're not doomed, but be ready to do your own research on the side.
This class was so fascinating and even though it was tough, it was quite enjoyable. She picks really good readings and makes you challenge your views in a fair and intellectual way. She's pretty tough on her papers, make sure to give examples in your essays on the tests (which are ALL essays). The class is completely doable though.
Her lectures are not very coherent, and when she starts running out of time, will say she's going to skip a slide because you have it, then immediately proceed to read through it. First test average was 67% after curve, she blamed on students not appearing engaged. I sent an email to her about an assignment and she linked me to blackboard. No help.
Only 2 exams: midterm and final that are essay response only. One research paper that you get feedback on before submitting. Readings were super long in the first half of the semester, but got lighter towards the end. I wasn't particularly fond of the subject matter at times, mostly because the discussions weren't helpful and were somewhat wasteful
There are several readings every week for the class discussions and debates, but if you listen in class you don't have to read them and can get enough information about them and the main points to get an A on the exams. Two exams consisting of 4 essays and 1 research paper. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.
The lectures are boring and she posts the power points online. If you read the textbook and the powerpoint, you'll do well on the exam. She gives out a few in class assignments for a few points. The group project and paper are fairly easy. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.
One midterm and final, each including four, handwritten essays that need specific examples from the research articles that are assigned each week. The research journals can be very long, but the subjects she chooses are very interesting! Also a final paper and you can submit a rough draft beforehand and get feedback! Take her!
She is all over the place. we barely get through 2 slides out of 24 during class. She will tell us something isn't due and then she will end up saying it was due. You pretty much have to teach yourself. There is one midterm with 4 essay question in an hour. Then a big research paper at the end of the semester.
Professor Friedlmeier is one of my favorite professors at GV. Definitely cares about her students. She lectures using powerpoint but she keeps it interesting with videos and optional discussions. Sometimes there will be random in class assignments but they aren't worth much. Midterm and final along with a group project/paper. Highly recommend her!
I really enjoyed taking this class with Mihaela! She is passionate about the subjects that she teaches, and welcomes feedback on how we feel about subjects (if we feel they are overdone in other classes, etc.). Lots of opportunities for points from assignments due every week (2 pts.), 2 non-cumulative finals, and a research paper. Would take again!
Professor Friedlmeier was a very good teacher for PSY 364. She really made you think about the concepts talked about in lectures and helped give plenty of real life examples. She does teach the concepts in lectures, but you should read up on them in the book as well because that is where she pulls most test questions from. Really enjoyed the class.
Very sweet professor. Class consists of filling in powerpoint notes and an occasional short clip. Exams were not too difficult. I pay attention in class and study a fair amount and got a B on every exam. Would recommend!
Very nice person, tries to initiate discussions, but lecture was still pretty dry at times (it's mostly powerpoint). Easy A if you come to class. I didn't read the book and got an A on every exam.
Prof. Friedlmeier is a great professor overall. It's important to attend lecture, because the powerpoints she puts on blackboard are not filled in all the way. I used the powerpoints to study for exams, and did pretty well. Didn't use the book that much, but it was helpful at times.
Such a nice professor, enthusiastic and loves teaching. Class is super easy if you just pay attention, exams weren't hard at all just study the powerpoints and you'll do fine. Only 3 exams and a paper. Pretty easy A with minimal effort. I would agree that the lecture can be boring, I didn't attend all and still did fine on exams
Very caring and passionate professor! Loved her and class was very straight forward and easy. Would recommend going to class to get information for the slides. Just study the slides and you will be fine for the tests.
I enjoy having her as a prof. Some lectures can be boring but it's important to go specifically for the material for tests and quizzes. 2 exams, 1 paper, and a final plus a few online homeworks and quizzes worth 5 points. So, not a lot of points and doing well on assessments is important but if you come to class and review powerpoint, easy A.
She will tell you how to parent your unborn children and can be very opinionated. However, she is a good teacher and exams are easy. As long as you fill in the notes in class you will do well. Only used the book for quizzes. Lecture can be boring at times, especially if you've taken psych classes before, the content is repetitive. Overall easy A.
Thought this class was pretty good. Lectures were boring to me but i think it's because I knew a lot of it from psych 101. Exams were usually straightforward if you studied the powerpoints. some online quizzes and in class assignment, but she grades for correctness which kinda sucked. 1 longer paper and 1 shorter paper that weren't too bad.
Literally one of the easiest classes I have taken at GVSU. Her lectures can be boring at time but all you have to do is look over the slides and you will get an A on the exams. There are a few online quizzes (all the answers on quizlet) and one paper which she did not grade hard at all. Take her if you want an easy A, you won't regret it
She is a very nice lady, I just struggled to remain interested during the entire lecture. Almost every class was going through powerpoint slides which can get old after awhile. There are not many grades, so exams make up most of your final percentage. She grades the final paper very easy but also does not give the most clear directions for homework
I would take Professor Friedlmeier again for sure. The class is very straight forward and she's clear on what she expects. She's super passionate about the subject and it shows. Would recommend.
Don't let bad comments scare you. Those people likely didn't show up to class or they have no interest in psychology. She deserves a 5.0. This class was a total breeze. Your grade is just 3 tests and a paper, but I found the tests extremely easy. I got 100% on the first test and 90% on the second and third. Not hard at all and she's super sweet.
I loved her so much I am taking her again in the summer for 311 & next winter for 331. She means well and cares about student success. I missed a week of class when I was in the hospital and she sent me everything that I missed and made time to meet with me. She is very understanding. Can get boring, but overall was easy & I enjoyed her personality
This is a great prof choice! Its definitely an easy B+. I only studied the night before each exam and got Bs and As on them. Shes very caring so if you have personal issues going on let her know! She wants you to do well.
For each exam, we had to write four essays and cite research, but we WEREN'T ALLOWED TO USE OUR NOTES!!! How do you cite authors, dates, and statistics off the top of your head??? The class is very literature and lecture heavy. I have always been an A+ student and was genuinely concerned about passing this class.
This was my second time having her as a prof and I don't regret it. 311 was more difficult than I expected and it was a lot packed into 6 weeks, but it's what should be expected. If you are on her good side she is more than understanding and willing to help, but I wouldn't expect to do well if you don't show up to class or communicate with her.
great professor and very nice and approachable. The only thing I disliked was how slow she was to put grades in. Exams were not very hard, I got A's and B's with barely studying. Final is not cumulative which was nice. Had some homework, a few easy quizzes, and 3 essays. Some grading criteria for essays was a bit unclear. overall liked her
Super nice lady, but the structure of the class makes it difficult to succeed. Only 3 exams including the final, 3 (5 point) quizzes, and a paper. You really have to nail all the exams in order to get an A in the class, as her grading scale requires a 94% to get an A. Also, she is a very slow grader
I loved her class style. She used stories from her family and students to explain concepts. She is beyond understanding always willing to help with anything. I had issues with my textbook purchase so she lent me hers while I sorted it all out. There weren't many grades but honestly, it was easy to get A's on her assignments. She was very clear.
I took Dr. Friedlmeier for PSY311 which was supposed to be in person. COVID changed that, but she ran the best online class I have ever been in. She brought in real life issues for discussion, and let the discussion grow organically. Online classes were recorded, so not necessary to attend, but they were very beneficial for midterm and final prep.
Professor Friedlmeier was a good professor. There isn't much structure to the class which sometimes made it difficult because it felt like you had nothing to do. Weekly quizzes that are only 5 questions, 3 tests and a final group project which is your exam. Overall she is a good professor but I didn't learn much from this class.
I did not take away much from this class. She is very hard to get into contact with and never responds to emails. I think I sent her 7 emails throughout the semester and she only responded to 2. She grades pretty easy, and the class requires very little effort. If you want to take away what you have learned I would suggest a different prof.
She's a good professor, a little hard to understand at times, but always there to help you succeed. There's 1 group project that's due at the end of the semester and the weekly quizzes and exams were fairly easy. I don't think there's a better option!
She is very nice, but I didn't learn anything in this class. She is also VERY slow to grade, and I had a few items not graded for over a month. I didn't know what my grade was going to be until the near of the end of the semester.
1 of the best prof's I've ever had! Her class was so fun and her lectures are interesting! She's so nice/understanding! I missed class on accident a few times, turned stuff in late because I forgot and she was so cool about it! Two hw assignments per week (so easy), two writing exams and 1 big paper (all pretty easy). Take her if you can!
Professor Friedlmeier is very easy to learn from, she relates the material to real life experiences and she is easy to work with. If you need an extension on a paper she will give that to you. Her tests were pretty easy and you do not really need the book. There are quizzes every week and they are easy. Overall great professor
To be honest, I only went to this class for the first 2 weeks. It was pretty easy doing it from home. However, the exams are a little tricky and you have to watch & read the outside material. Even when I went to class, it wasn't engaging.
The format of this class is ridiculous. She is very rude to my classmates. When you talk to her, she brushes you off, gets mad at the class for not engaging much when she talks for most of the time. Said the class is almost impossible to pass. One midterm, one final, on paper. The exams are 5 essay questions, you have to remember everything + stats
Probably one of the worst profs I've had. She responds to emails weeks later, doesn't grade anything, and it is hard to get points. The midterm was 5 essay questions that you needed to memorize names and stats for. She is VERY rude and interrupts. She talks so much but isn't actually teaching anything. Complains and doesn't make sense a lot.
NEVER take this professor. She is a nice person but she is a horrible professor. You are expected to memorize every statistic and author from every reading (there were 3+ readings per week) for the midterm and final. Does not answer emails and does not provide support for the paper despite it being an SWS class. Talks WAY too much in class too.
Many of the students did not like this class. It was not my favorite, and I think that her midterm was excessive however she had a tough semester with her personal life, and we all need a little grace after the last few years. I think that she could have encouraged discussion more, but many of the students did not show up which was difficult.
This class was so interesting and she is kind and understanding, but the midterm and the final exam were one of the hardest exams I have ever taken in my life. You will be expected to remember very specific names, arguments, rebuttals, and data that backs up the claims. All of this was in written form about a page and a half for each question.
She is by far one of the most educated and well-spoken professors I have ever had and you can really tell she is passionate about her profession. Our semester was hard because let's face it-- it was a hard year for everyone in one way or another. If you are not a strong writer DO NOT TAKE. I found the class super interesting and fun!
The epitome of an SWS. SO MUCH WRITING. However, this class makes you a stronger writer and a more critical thinker. The class is set up with 3 (long) weekly readings that she posts online and then in-class discussion. There are 2 written exams, 1 paper, and weekly questions. Attendance is crucial. This class is very different, so I liked it.
Friedlmaher was super nice and the material was interesting but she does a horrible job preparing you for tests and takes forever (literally months) to put grades in. The group project is really strange and a lot of the way it is structured makes no sense. I would not recommend this professor
I was scared to take this class because I have heard its super hard but she makes it pretty easy. Only 5 weeks in and I like her a lot. She is easygoing. The first test was not bad at all. it was way easier than what I was expecting. Weekly online quizzes but they are easy. If you read a little bit of the chapters and go over notes you'll be fine.
Good professor, she uses real life examples and keeps lectures interesting. Every week there is a 5 question open note quiz and her exams are solely based on her powerpoint slides and in-class videos. She is also a very easy grader when it comes to papers. Only downside is she takes a long time to grade and is not very accessible outside class.
Prof. Friedlmeier was pretty good, I liked her. The class itself is interesting, and the material isn't that hard to grasp. As long as you look over your notes, study here and there, put effort into the assignments, and watch/read the material she assigns you, you will be just fine. Good Professor overall if you need to take the course.
She had us do 5 question online quizzes, in class participation, and essay papers (3 only) which helped your grade. Overall it's an easy class, exams were decent. She is a busy mom so it was hard to hold contact with her outside but that was fine because everything was easy to understand.
I was scared for this class but it was not that hard! Her tests aren't that hard if you study. Def have to put in the time to study. The class is filled with tons of easy points such as weekly quizzes, (3) mini-essays, and easy in-class assignments. The essays were so easy for 25 points each. it helps your grade a lot. Her lectures are good.
If you are able to learn strictly off worded powerpoints, then take this professor. I struggled with exams, and the only way she prepares you is with 3-4 example questions, and not any learning objectives. I never knew what to study because there was so much content, but nothing specified to focus on for exams.
There are a lot of readings (that you actually have to read) and you have to show up to class because its discussion based. The exams (2) are written and she takes a longggg time to grade. There is one paper that I felt like she didnt provide a lot of information on. A little unorganized, but she is very intelligent and insightful nonetheless.
She is very cool and kind, however she takes forever to grade and her tests consist of the things she mentions in class rather than the study materials she sends out so you HAVE to go to class to do well. If you take a 3 hour night class, she will make your exams online so I recommend that.
Professor Miheala was very caring and passionate about psych. She gave a lot of good feedback and encourages participation in class. Overall the class is pretty easy and she is easy to reach if you need help. It is important to go to class as there is in class activities often. Weekly 5 pt quizzes that are easy to pass.
This class was pretty interesting and I liked this professor! Some of her lectures could get kind of boring but they weren't bad at all. Weekly online quizzes, in-class assignments sometimes, some papers, and tests. Outlines for papers are pretty clear and she is great at answering any questions. She posts her lecture slides which is super nice.
Overall there was lecture, random in class group activities, and two big papers besides exams. Honestly I didn't really learn anything from the class, but it was easy to get a good grade in if you did all the assignments.
Professor Friedlmeier was a very nice professor and I liked her a lot. The class is all based off of powerpoints that can be hard to get through, with three exams and two papers and weekly quizzes on the chapter we went through in class. There are also random group in class assignments. If you do the work and go to class, you will be fine.
This professor truly wants you to succeed, she is extremely kind and understanding. She does have weekly online quizzes, in-class group assignments, and multiple papers and exams. Overall, the class wasn't too difficult but the smaller assignments weigh heavily on your grade.
Professor Friedlmeier is awful at teaching online classes. She gives you notes and often won't even post lecture videos; you have to learn the material yourself. She is bad at responding to emails. She doesn't post the week's material until Thursday, so you have like no time to do it. If you are want to take PSY 364 online, do not take it with her!
This professor is not accessible outside of class, she never answers emails. she would never post the material on the day she said she would and would also post the assignments and the notes the two or three days before they were due even though we were supposed to have the whole week. She was extremely disorganized also
Professor Friedlmeier is not that great in an online course. I had difficulty following the course, as assignments are released days before due vs weekly. Lectures vague. Doesn't respond very well to emails. Exams are extremely difficult. Homework assignments were easy, but didn't relate to exams. Maybe better in person, but don't take her online.
Professor Friedlmeier never answers emails, and when she does, she is mean in her email responses. She always posts stuff on black board in the wrong folder or place. She always posts assignments and other material late; she posted study guide the day of the exam for our first exam. She is not accessible and you're graded on few things
She was just fine. I didn't like how slow she was to post material. She would post it Thursday and it would be due Sunday. The material itself was pretty easy; I didn't even watch the lectures, I just read the book. Mostly just a few homework assignments, small quizzes, and exams. The exams aren't too challenging, although they can be lengthy.
Professor Friedlmeier was just fine! The class itself wasn't too hard, just a decent amount of content. She posts powerpoints going over the key concepts of what we were learning each week which was nice. She sometimes would randomly assign homework or papers that wasn't on the syllabus, but other than that not a bad class!
Professor Friedlmeier was a good professor. For an online class, it had the appropriate work-load and was manageable. There are a couple exams, quizzes every week or two, and other random assignment that were all very doable. One critique I have is she is not good with answering emails, but other than that, she was fine!
Honestly no complaints other than posting random homework assignments that were not in the syllabus. Weekly online quizzes and 2 exams (not counting the final). The final was also not cumulative which was nice.
Professor Friedlmeier's class has a heavy workload, but the material is manageable if you stay on top of it. unstuckstudy and the free textbook were great study aids. Attend lectures, complete assignments, and you'll do well.
Professor Friedmeier is a very interesting person and shares details about her life and her research. The class was tough, and exams are on paper. We did a virtual foreign exchange with students from her home country (Romania) and that was a cool experience but also annoying because of the time difference and having to do extra work (not optional).
