Extremely boring lecturer, all you do is discuss case studies. Tests are extremely subjective, questions often ask "what would you do" yet there is a right or wrong answer. Overall there is no structure in this class.
Tests are incredibly subjective. No amount of studying will help.
His tests are so subjective, multiple answers seem right but you have to put what HE thinks is the right answer. OVerall I would not take him for managment
Required final exam. Difficult tests. Take the other management teacher.
There are 2 test, a mandatory final, and 4 one page essays. Essays are peer graded. Overall, the tests were hard to study for because he doesn't post any of his power points and you have to scramble to write everything down. Also test are very opinionated and multiple answers often seem right. I would take loescher if I could.
Boring class, tests are not too hard, but can be confusing
Hard but nice
Class is very dry and boring, there are 2 test and a final, along with 4 essays. Essays are peer-graded, which sometimes can be a bad thing. All you do in class is read and analyze case studies. Class can be somewhat tricky, but he does give out Extra Credit.
goooood
Mihran is a chill guy. This class has lots of reading and writing and a lot of work in general. But I learned alot and I got to know him and I'm not the type of person who usually goes to office hours. That being said, he is really sarcastic and can be difficult to get a straight answer out of; but he wants you to think for yourself. Would recommen
It was an honor to take a McCombs business class in my academic journey at The University of Texas Austin. Expect to read material that will be beneficial to the activities and discussions in the course. Word of advice for exams: prepare way ahead of time. Read the textbook chapters early and aim to complete activities early too.
Overall, Dr. Aroian was a good professor. The class, however, was challenging as there were countless writing assignments and a term project which ended up being over 60 pages for our group (think BA 324 on steroids). He gives great feedback on your assignments and really wants you to improve. There's USUALLY a small curve at the end of the term.
Aroian is a nice guy but he makes this class hard for no reason. The tests were confusing and lengthy. Wouldn't recommend taking him.
Aroian was helpful and kind throughout the process, and set us up to do well in the online course. I would take him again.
It is important to know that his powerpoints are not accessible. If you want to be successful in this class, write down everything on them verbatim and you will do well in the course. The course is fun and sometimes engaging but some sections just feel useless. Overall, though, the class was pretty fun and useful
Aroian is a very insightful professor, and he inspires you to become a better person. The coursework is like BA 324, you have writing assignments and a major presentation. There are a lot of case studies to read, but you learn a lot from them. I would recommend taking him, he is very wise and insightful. Make sure to take detailed notes!
- Lectures are boring - Tests are overly specific on nonsense from case studies - 75% of grade based of three exams (not easy) - Lots of studying needed to get a B+ or higher
Really enjoyed this class. Lectures were very enlightening & I learned a lot. No surprises on exams--just make a study guide compiled of all your lecture notes (take good notes!) & review textbook sections and you're good to go. Lots of group assignments to keep class interesting. He's full of wisdom & really cares about his students.
Aroian is a nice guy but his lectures are extremely dense. The tests are specific & confusing and ask some lecture-based questions. There are 3 easy writing assignments and light hwk but you get a choice between Connect modules and case studies. You can easily finish all the hwk during the 2-week free trial. Also, he ended up curving the class
Taking MAN rn ONL, it's p easy honestly. Self-paced, w 2 exams and 4 quizzes. He uses ProctorU. I'd suggest to skim through the readings lightly, focus more on the study guide/quizzes at the end of the chapters, and google some good quizlets from past students. Quizlets are LIFE SAVERS for this class. V v easy if you don't wait till the last min
Mihran himself is a great guy. Wise, caring, personable, everything you would want in a professor. However, the class is tough. Only the homeworks (8% of the grade) are easy points. Do NOT assume (as I did) that you can get an A on the test without reading the cases and textbook thoroughly... you will be in for a rude awakening if you do.
I personally would avoid taking this class in person. The material is pretty intuitive, but the tests are not easy by any means. I dropped at the end of the semester because I hadn't used my OTE yet. Getting an A is definitely feasible but not worth it imo.
I never read any modules or watched any videos. Just go to quizlet or course hero. On every exam/quiz there's at least 2-3 questions that seem new/aren't on any of the other quizlets. Just guess on those because it's not worth it to actually read the case studies/textbook to find those answers. Modules are a bit of a pain, otherwise p easy class.
It is NOT by any means an easy A, though an A is achievable if you memorize all of the words in the textbook. The online version has 4 quizzes (5% each) and 2 tests (40% each). NO extra credit. The questions are overly specific and not related to the general concepts AT ALL. He isn't bad, but the online class sucks and is too hard.
His online class is pure garbage! I hated every single thing about this class. Myriads of useless assignments and participation posts. Tests are very weird as well. I studied and I got a B. Tbh, I do not know how else I could have prepared to get an A in this class. Would not recommend if you want an easy A.
Don't understand all the negative reviews for him. The cases that you read are short and interesting. His lectures may be somewhat dry at times but he is honestly one of the most engaging teachers I have ever had for such a large class and is hilarious. Tests are not bad at all if you show up to class and read the cases.
One of the worst professors I have ever had in my life. I hate this man and would avoid at all cost. He is not worth it.
Aroian is a nice guy but his online class is needlessly difficult. Before the exam, I was able to write out every concept in the book from memory and I got a C. Not sure what I could've done to prepare better, worth 40% and the questions are not really indicative of your knowledge.
This class in unnecessarily hard, with an excessive amount of reading. The tests and quizzes are "randomly generated from the exam database," but the questions on every exam/quiz I took focused on one or two specific topics. There is a group assignment, but you are not allowed to communicate outside of email and the chat in the assignment.
Do yourself a favor and avoid this course. Stakes for grades are unnecessarily high. If you miss more than 3 questions on quizzes and suddenly you drop a grade average. Also, the group project part was horrible and unrelated to course content.
This class is so unnecessarily hard. You're graded on 2 exams, 4 quizzes, and a group assignment. He insists test questions are randomly generated and that's why he can't provide a guideline, but the questions are EXTREMELY specific to be random. Your grade on the group assignment basically depends on everyone in the group and is graded harshly.
This professor provides little to zero grades. Four quizzes, two tests and a childs play game that reflects your grade heavily. The game proposes situations to the extreme and the professor does little to nothing to prepare you for the life or death game. Take the class in person with someone else.
I worked hard at this class, but test and quizzes are always harder without lecture imo. I did terrible the first half until someone told me that there were quizlets online to study. If i wouldve known sooner i wouldve saved time and my grade. If you want to do it without quizlets, its incredibly hard. Memorize the entire text book. :(
This was probably my least favorite class I've ever taken at UT. The material is super easy and basically common-sense like and yet the quizzes and exams are so unnecessarily detail-oriented. Even when I read the textbook, random tiny things are asked and if you do bad on only one quiz, good luck getting an A.
You have to read the case studies throughly to do well, but theyre interesting. Tests can be very specific but its all doable.
I can tell you that Prof. Aroian is my favorite professor in the business foundation programs thus far. He is very kind and tries his hardest to reach out to students. Everything on the exam is in the lectures. BUT, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS ONLINE! He purposely made it harder than the in-class course to discourage students from taking it online.
I have no idea who Aroian himself even is- he basically just sent us vaguely threatening messages through Canvas for the entirety of the course. Almost no accommodations for COVID crisis (I did not need them, but others may have). Testing software stares at you through your webcam and is generally creepy. Would not recommend.
This prof is SO RUDE! He ordered less books than there were people in the class then he was ticked off when students came saying they ran out of books. His Ego is over inflated and he can be condescending. This man is stressed out and will stress you out.
I've heard the warnings about Aroian's online class, but I didn't think much of it. Mr. Aroian is the all-time worst professor that I have observed and taken at UT. From his crazy "threatening" messages to lacking accommodation during the pandemic, I wouldn't even recommend taking management. He says MAN320F online is made harder for 0 reason. Skip
I'm not a Business Major, but if Aroian's teaching style is the norm, than I hope to never become one. Web Based course that requires self-control & good study habits, but Arorian's reliance on other Prof. Videos, a deficiency in grading material and refusal to provide exam study guides makes his teaching appear cold and callous to his students.
This professor is incredibly rude. In the middle of a PANDEMIC, this guy sends out a nasty email threatening students with academic dishonesty violations for not putting enough effort into answering ungraded questions. The book is extremely expensive and mandatory. The tests are proctored with a software that he is a spokesperson for.
I hate how he's the only professor to teach Management 320F. His online class is not structured well and relies heavily on just a few quizzes and two exams. Plus, there is a group assignment and the grade for it is based on how well you do on it which is ridiculous and should've just been a completion grade thing instead. Worst class ever.
Aroian is one of the best professors I've had at UT. His lectures are really engaging, interesting and meaningful. The textbook could help but he covers all needed material during lecture. He doesn't take attendance but you really need to go to class and take notes. Overall, he is a very sweet person and really motivates you to be a better person.
Professor Aroian is one of the best professors I've had at UT so far. If you want to get the most out of a management class, definitely take it IN PERSON. The workload is much less than online and tests are based mostly on lecture and case studies. As someone who reads RMP posts too, this class really isn't as bad as people make it out to be.
Got through this class by the skin of my teeth. Dr. Aroian is a super considerate person, but take MAN320F in person (if you must) by all costs. The online class only has 2 exams and 4 quizzes + a group project that's hard to do well on. I still have nightmares about ProctorU. The questions at the end of each chapter help!
Dr. Aroian is a super considerate person, so TAKE MAN320F IN PERSON !!! The online class is so much harder and I dont recommend. The in-person we were able to learn way more and be able to do well on the tests! He's a tough egg to crack but deep down he really does care about his student. Idk why he has such a poor rating he doesnt deserve that?
He definitely cares about his students, but is sometimes dismissive of their point of view. The class itself is not bad at all, and often his lectures are pretty interesting and fun. Peer-graded essays can tank your grade if you get a strict grader, and Aroian's regrading isn't very forgiving.
DO NOT take this class online. I found it very hard to stay focused/ motivated and to study for something blindly. You have no clue what is going to show up on the quizzes/ tests. This online class gave me literal anxiety attacks. Please save yourself and take it in person!!!
I'm currently in the online course and do not like it so far. The class is structured so that the majority of your learning is done by reading the textbook with the canvas modules adding little substance to the learning process. What I dislike the most is the grading distribution: 2 exams are worth 80 percent of your grade. No extra credit.
My impression is that he designed this class so he could put in the least amount of active effort possible. Everything pre-made, from slides to long textbooks readings. He did not teach this class. I do not know him because the only active involvement from him the entire semester was an occasional announcement reminder. 80% of grade is two exams.
Professor Aroian doesn't deserve the ratings he has. His class is difficult because of the case studies and how much they appear on the exam. If you don't go to his lectures and take notes and study you won't pass, but his exam averages are 85%. He is very responsive to feedback and enjoys students coming to office hours. His class is NOT that bad
This is class & professor are simply disrespectful. Don't take it. I wish I would've read the reviews before. I am usually an all A's student ¤tly have a 74 in this class. ALSO, I've taken this class before at ACC (credit didn't transfer)& it was the easiest class ever. The tests are based on a ridiculous amount of material. Pray 4 my grade.
He was a cool prof, he would go over all the case studies in class and help you understand what you read. The only downfall is the tests. They are super ambiguous and difficult. Unfortunately he is the only prof for MAN320F. Just read the studies and work in groups and you should at least get a B.
One of my favorite professors by far. Aroian is kind, humourous, and shares valuable knowledge throughout the semester. I am going to miss his lectures and personal stories during class. Don't listen to any negative reviews about Aroian because I have no complaints about him this semester, Fall 2020.
writing this because in addition to being a well-organized and engaging professor, he has explicitly encouraged his students to prioritize their health/safety/wellbeing over their school work during the pandemic-winter storm-combo. his lightheartedness and good humor notably crosses over into his genuine care and compassion for his students.
I love the professor he is so nice and he does a great job teaching. However, the exams are so difficult, EXTREMELY difficult. Answers are very similar and a lot of the Qs have many correct answers.
This professor did not require attendance but the class and were lecture based, Super easy class and he is very entertaining and you learn a lot. He is great at forming discussions and examples through zoom. I would also think the class exams are easy, literally just based on the cases we read and class discussion!
Can't believe people are giving Aroian bad reviews; he is seriously the sweetest professor ever. There are case studies due each class which can be long (longest is 30 pages shortest is 8) but the write-ups take only 20-30min. 3 MC tests that are pretty easy if you read the case studies and pay attention to the lectures. I'd recommend.
We have 3 non-cumulative exams and 2 writing assignments.. plus 15 case studies and textbook readings, 1 due basically every class. The amount of work isn't bad, but the assigned txbk readings are not helpful or needed for the exams. Most exam questions are word for word what he says in lecture, so if you have a bad memory, that might not be good.
Prof. Aroian is one of the greatest professors in existence. Take him.
Hes a pretty boring lecturer but a nice man. Tests are a bit harder than youd think but not too bad. If you have to take this class take it but its pretty blah.
Aroian was always attempting to make jokes in class, but I genuinely enjoyed him. The content is really easy and Aroian teaches it well. The case studies were easy 100's if your read them, and the writing assignments were graded leniently. Tests were sometimes tricky but not awful.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN'S CLASS!!!!!! He does everything in his power to make it as difficult and as tedious as possible. It is absolutely not worth it. He claims he's aware that we're in a pandemic, but he is inflexible, unhelpful, condescending, and rude. There is way too much busy work, and it is impossible to get an A.
This is probably the worst Business Minor class I've taken. Quizzes are ridiculously detail focused, and you have to go to office hours to get feedback. Exam is full of random details completely unrelated to the readings. It's probably nearly impossible to get an A in this class (coming from a 4.0 CS major).
The quizzes are ridiculously hard and detailed even if you study and do the readings. His tests have typos/grammar errors and reflect little from the material/are down to the smallest details. He doesn't allow you to review your exams or quizzes to see where you're wrong. He's condescending to students. If the whole class is struggling it's a sign.
This class was eh. I did completely web-based; his recorded lectures are boring. Put him on 2x speed and you'll still understand everything. The exams were kind of tough & the quizzes after every reading was a bit much. It's honestly a lot of work. I was doing work for this class every day to keep up. You have to be super self-motivated to get an A
Prof Aroian was honestly not as bad as I thought it was going to be, but this is by no means an easy class. The quizzes and exams are mostly based on specific details from lecture, but the case studies are graded based on whether or not it looks like you put in effort.
Took it for the business minor. Contextually very simple, I didn't really study for the exams but if I had put more effort in, I would have gotten an A. Aroian is a great guy, the asynchronous nature of the course is just hard to keep up with but it was nice that you could finish the class early if you want. No final
Literally the rudest and most passive-aggressive professor I've ever encountered. Disorganized class despite the 20-page syllabus? Would NOT recommend taking this class with Aroian, take the synchronous version with a different professor if possible/if you want a will to live.
This was the most tedious and frustrating class I've taken at UT. I would spend days reading+taking notes on the textbook and would still bomb quizzes, 75% of the questions on the tests were not even from the textbook, but from case studies (40-50 pages long ea). The curve was only 2 points. Not worth it all!!!!!
I enjoyed the class! I think he was a good professor but most of the content comes from the readings. He's extremely accessible and he cares about the students! The tests are a little tricky because of how simple the material is, so you may feel like several answers work for a certain question. It's easy to get a good grade. Lots of reading tho
this class sucks, it was basically fully online and there were 3 tests that the other material did not prepare you for.
This class was very overwhelming. There was way too much material and case study assignments/quizzes/homework questions due every week. The exams were over the case studies, which were on average 10 pages of reading (5 or 6 per module). This class did NOT need to be as hard as it was. Hes a good person, but did not structure his course well.
This was the worst class I've ever taken at UT Austin. Professor Aroian is EXTREMELY passive-aggressive, and he does not help or care for the students at all. For example, in his third exam, in which a large majority of the class' test averages dropped around 7 points, he did not curve it, and he only assigned a 0.25% curve to the entire class.
Awful class!!! impossible to get an A (at least for me, I tried and read/ studied so much but tests were so hard and never got above a C on any). He also talks sooo slow and is a nice guy but doesn't care about how frustrating the class is even when he gets a million complaints about it. A lot of work to turn in asynchronously. Avoid!
Pros: Exams aren't that bad, it's possible to cram the night before and get a B. Bad questions do get thrown out. The class is self paced. Cons: It is cumbersome to get an A in this class because its set as a 94, there is very little room for error.
Dr. Aroian is very passionate and knowledgeable about the content in the class. His lectures and case study debriefs that he gives are very interesting and I enjoyed learning about them. He gives you all the resources you need to perform well in this class. All the 1-point reviews are just salty, L+ratio+skill issue.
Dr. Aroian's class is self paced so it's easy to get overwhelmed- he gave a pretty good curve at the end of the semester that made up for the weight and difficulty of the tests. You have to know the case studies really well and if you're in the top quartile of the class you'll probably end up with an A after the curve.
It does NOT give you much credit for learning the textbook. The text book is mostly to learn different terms based on their respective properties and the exams do NOT exercise the understanding of the material but more of outside thinking of how each case study could have avoided their issues. the bad side is your grade depends on exams.
I think Aroian is an incredible professor. If you are struggling in his class, GO TO OFFICE hours. He really wants his students to suceed. Tests are tough but fair.
A more aggressive but passive version of Jean-Claude Biver. Ded fish go through the current & you have to be extremely fast to pass this course. An extremely PASSIONATE professor but lacks management. Love the lessons and real aspects of the course but that makes it hard even if correct answers may be wrong and replaced ["what if"ways of thinking].
Don't understand the bad reviews. Class was straightforward and not difficult at all. Some of the material can be boring but its not terrible. I found this class pretty useful as we learned about what may be encountered when starting our career. Textbook required for assignments, but I didn't read it. I did not stress over this class at all.
exams are 21% (yes, 21) and are super hard niche information from his lectures. situational problems from exams are super subjective but somehow there's a "right" answer. assigns group work for an asynchronous online class. busywork for this class is easy and it's not technically a hard class, but exams will sneak up on you and tank your grade
Class is asynchronous and lectures are prerecorded. Professor is nice and answers any questions during office hours and test review sessions. Class is hard because the majority of your grade is exams and none of them are dropped. Quizzes are based completely on the readings and there are a few exercises that require coordinating with other people.
Homeworks were easy and you could finish the class pretty early within the semester. Class is easy, make sure to watch the lectures. Giving him a low rating because he doesn't seem to care for his students literally at his mercy. He curves, but a chunk of it comes from an extra credit assignment that'll add upwards to 1.5 points(who does this bro)
This is really a very easy class. Textbook readings are long and annoying but completely unnecessary. Lectures and case studies are majority of test. They can be tediously boring but otherwise the tests for this class could not be easier. There is group work for this asynchronous class which IS very annoying. Overall- very doable & not stressful.
Aroian's class is easy, but he doesn't enhance the experience whatsoever. Talks incredibly slow and lectures are unprofessional and uninspiring. He didn't make the tiniest bit of effort to cut out interruptions during lectures such as his phone ringing. Just take notes at 2x speed and you'll be fine. Most of the non-exam assignments are completion.
Class was a layup. The information is not really hard to learn, its just the structure of the course that makes this class somewhat tedious/challenging. Imo, this class felt like a giant participation grade. Tests are really easy and so are assignments. The prof is a little rude tho.
This class was fine. Definitely read the assigned articles and watch the lectures as they make up a big chunk of the exams. For the most part this class was not very engaging except for the case studies, which I found really interesting. You do have a group project which is annoying because this is an asynchronous class.
Many of the negative reviews for this class could likely be because they had to put in the work for the grade they wanted. While I wouldn't say Aroian's class was the most interesting, I learned what I needed and then some. He offers plenty of extra credit, there is clear grading, many assignments are completion, and tests aren't overly difficult.
Bad rating because exams were needlessly proctored.
Prof Aroian is a sweet professor. He has a lot of good "life lessons" to give to the students through the class. For the class itself, its hard. I took this for my minor and it was the hardest class in my course load. You have to stay on top of your work from the very beginning, and do good on tests. He will grade your final grade kindly though!
Multiple homework assignments each week (upwards of 5 assignments/week). Textbook readings are abundant and apply to the quizzes. Lectures are tedious and slow (use 2x speed). Tests make up a whopping 63% of your final grade, of which there are three. Test questions can be misleading and subjective. Other posts mention extra credit but I see none.
It's all at your own pace, but tests are based mostly on case studies and lectures. Each exam is cumulative of the new material and previous. Honestly, a relatively difficult class because each exam makes up 21% of your grade and the questions can be difficult imo. Currently taking 15 credit hours, and struggling to keep up with the class.
This class is definitely not that bad! It is a lot of work and its not a slack of class but overall it is manageable. Make sure to pay attention to lectures and case studies as that it a majority of the tests. The exams are not easy but in my opinion they are definitely fair, just difficult. It's definitely a doable class and the prof is great!
Professor Aroian is a wonderful teacher! He's very sweet, kind, and understanding, and his lectures often have a lot of interesting facts, even at 2x speed. The tests can be hard and there's a lot of textbook reading and case studied, but if you pay attention, most of it is intuitive. I worked the least towards this class and still got an A.
mid professor, boring lectures. tests were always difficult, answers could be subjective. u just gotta get through these minor classes lol
His class was not that difficult if you take it online. there are 3 modules that you have to do, no finals. there is a lot reading, but nothing hard or not to long. The exams could be better, but if you watch his lectures you should be fine. He does give points back and offers extra credit.
This class made simple concepts seem unnecessarily complicated as the exams had really specific and sometimes subjective (on the third exam) questions. He is a super nice guy, but the material got pretty boring sometimes. Concepts are simple but pay close attention to
I felt it necessary to share my experience with Professor Aroian. The class is unnecessarily difficult due to his lack of effort in grading and his overbearing ego. His teaching style and announcements reflect a prideful attitude that hinders learning. Despite manageable content, the workload and lack of empathy made the course overwhelming.
Professor Aroian placed not only a ten minute time limit but also misleading multi-select questions on a syllabus quiz that counts for 2% of your overall grade, can't tell you want the rest of the class will entail because I will be dropping this.
He is trying way too hard, acting like this is the only class we have. I get he lives his life for management and doesn't have anything better to do, but we do. I have more busy work and assignments from him on the daily than any of my other classes. He pisses me off.
Currently in his class and he is easily the worst professor I have ever had at UT. Has the highest materials fee of any professor ($150) and gives way too many assignments and homework for a 3 credit class. I have a 4 credit class with less homework than his. Dude is so paranoid about cheating he mentions it in every single paragraph and assignment
One of the most baffling courses I have ever taken. Exams cover random tidbits of subjective nonsense that offer no insight or particular benefit for course material. Lectures are extremely surface level and the material is taught as if he's reading from straight from an encyclopedia. Do not take this class with him.
I got 60 points taken often for not writing my name, are you serious?? dude needs to get laid. please do not take this class, like run rn. literally take any other class.
why is his rating so high?? it should be 0/5.
50 readings for one test? He's definitely one of those teachers who became a teacher just to make students' lives miserable, maybe because he had a rough time in high school. Instead of trying to be a good teacher and doing better than the ones he had, he's taking it out on us.
The workload is so much for a 3 credit class that it's borderline disrespectful to students. I had a 6 credit class with the same amount of homework, if not less. I will lose my scholarship if I drop it but if I could go back and not take it, I would 100% avoid it.
ok I kid you not, we had to watch 20 videos of length 30mins - 1 hour. we had to read 30 cases, articles, interviews/news studies. FOR ONE EXAM. how do you expect us to do that much dude... you are not our only class or our only teacher. in fact, at this point you want students to not learn. this much busy work is not ok.
i actually have no idea how his rating is this high
Professor Aroian unfortunately is not considerate of his students' needs. As a science major, I'm taking this class as part of my degree as an elective. however, it is the worst grade I have ever received and the most unorganized class system I have ever been in. Please don't take this class. I mean it.
I'm graduating this year, and this professor is the worst I've had. The busywork is excessive, especially for an async class (I'm taking another to compare). His tests cover almost nothing from the lectures, making studying pointless. His lectures are full of weird personal tangents and distractions. He clearly doesn't care about us or our grades.
This class has been an utter joke. Concepts are so easy, but he has the need to go in-depth with the most useless details and will then put them on the test. A ridiculous amount of content to memorize and learn that will legitimately be never used ever again.
Worst class Ive ever taken, PLEASE do yourself a favor and DONT take it. Exams are very detailed and difficult. So many readings and assignments to do weekly, just don't take it.
This class was the most annoyingly difficult course I've taken. Not because the material is difficult to understand, but because the exams are near impossible due to the sheer amount of detail and random topics included from a vast amount of readings, articles, case studies, and slow/long/boring debriefing/lecture videos. DON'T take this class!
The most expensive, time-consuming, and confusing class I've taken here at UT. The exams are heavily opinion-based, and the course content is relatively easy. The issue lies in how the course is structured, how things are graded, and how the lectures and exams don't align in any sense.
It's really not that bad. The very specific questions are from the videos he posts so if you watch those before the exam you'll do fine. If you do the modules incrementally the workload is relatively light also. Group projects are easy as well. If you actually do the work then you're gonna pass the class without a problem.
Took 10% off my homework just because I didn't write my name "at the beginning" (even though my name was written in the title of the pdf document).
This class made hate my life. It was more difficult to get an A in this class than my STEM classes because of his exams. It's not hard to get at least a B but he doesn't make it easy to get an A unless you really have time to study for exams.
It's easy to pass, but extremely difficult to get an A. No matter how much I studied for this class, it felt impossible to get an A on the exams. Prof's tips for studying were unhelpful. That being said, my tips are: Read all the cases/articles, take notes over debriefings, rewatch everything 2x speed right before exam. Textbook is a waste of time.
Aroian makes it very hard to get an A (94). Exams are 90% based on the lectures and case studies so don't waste your time with the textbook. He may or may not give EC based on the messages he sent us, but our class got 3 points EC with no curve. If you are a public health major on a pre-health path stay away from this class and take public policy.
This class is terrible. For each exam, be ready to read pages upon pages of material and hours of videos that are completely irrelevant- just to be tested on extremely specific details. The professor only gave points back to the men that went to office hours. There is extra credit for completing the course evaluation, bump in 1 letter grade.
Professor Aroian's MAN320F class is tough but manageable. The workload can be heavy, but his engaging lectures and Unstuckstudy make studying more efficient. Put in the effort, and you'll gain valuable insights.
Too much unnecessary material that has nothing to do with the tests is assigned and he's just overall unhelpful and rude
Just extremely rude and unhelpful. His lectures are insanely hard to get through because they are not very engaging. This class is a pain.
This professor is rude and unhelpful. Tried to ask for help nicely and got attitude from him, he is not very patient with students overall, which makes it super difficult to even ask for help or ask questions.
Be prepared to be tested on minuscule details and take tests that are manufactured to make you confused and second guess yourself, as opposed to actually checking your understanding. Not to be that guy, but I am a published researcher, double degree plan, and have a 3.4 GPA. Yet this is the first class I have ever failed a test in.
Every week there are so many readings and quizzes, often multiple a week. Had 2 papers due for a single unit. There are only 3 modules and an exam for each module. NO final exam. There are a few partner/group projects which was a pain for an asynchronous course. I would not take this course if possible. The course is not structured well.
Canvas page is so outdated, his lectures are boring, he is so monotonous. Really hard to get an A in this class. The tests are extremely subjective. and he is VERY rude.
Where do I start? Unfortunately, the truth about him will keep getting deleted. But that truth is desperately needed and the university must take action. He psychologically harms his students with unfounded accusations, constant threats, and "rules" by fear.
Asynchronous class with LOTS of readings and videos to watch. Make sure to stay ahead of workload because it will pile. I watched all the lectures on 2x speed since he talks very slow. There are 3 exams that are difficult due to the questions being worded very vaguely and subjectively. There are also 4 papers to write but will be easy if you read.
If you enjoy being student in a class taught by someone who acts like a KGB office under Stalin, by all means, take the class. He spends a great deal of his time investigating students, attempting to get them to falsely accuse other students and so on. That time would be better spend actually being a decent professor.
He needs to be fired. He is a litigation and reputational risk to the university.
He is so hard to talk to, so much work in for a 3hr class. he is very unapproachable in office hours. I wish I had never taken his class
Unapproachable is one word for it, but when I went to his office hours he threatened me and then bragged about how many students lives he destroyed. Very disturbed person.
If you have been subjected to false allegations of academic dishonesty and/or threats by this professor, please put your story here. If he has intimidated you or made you fearful of retaliation, please indicate that as well.
Contact the university with any complaints regarding this professor.
Exams are heavily based on the lecture videos with only 5 questions coming from the textbook. This was by far the most expensive textbook ($150+) I had to pay for and it was barely used, but was required because of the quizzes. Lectures are boring and even on 2x speed were boring to watch.
A stickler for academic dishonesty and will report you to the dean no matter what he finds. He is not considerate of other students opinions and will not listen to your concerns.
Offered extra credit if enough students fill out the end of semester survey. Many students are so scared of him that they don't even want the possibility of him thinking they left him a bad survey. Students shouldn't be afraid of their professor. But he is "inspirational" at instilling fear. He has issues.
Honestly, just stay on top of all the material and do whatever you can to avoid ever having to interact with him. He is not very kind and has little empathy for his students.
Do everything you can in order to avoid taking one of this mans courses. He does not care about his students and makes his course as difficult as it can possibly be. On top of that he makes you pay for expensive textbooks that only make up about 5% of questions on exams. Terrible professor, even more terrible person.
First off, I'm graduating with double degrees from UT, with awards and honors, thus I am not incapable by any means. But prof Aroian was sadly the worst professor I've ever had the displeasure of taking a course with through my 4 years at UT. Shame because the class content is engaging and interesting. But the exams are guillotines for your grade.
"He is the best professor at UT." HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
As long as you keep up with going to lecture, you will honestly be fine. Lectures are a little slow-paced, but are extremely valuable for your success on the exams. Going to office hours also helped me a lot. I took the in-person version, and really liked it.
would not recommend taking this professor at all. He is not caring, does not speak nicely, and his course work teaches you nothing useful.
Worst class I've taken at UT. The exams were unreasonably specific and based on the prof's opinions- super hard to get an A. The course was also useless & antiquated. Some of the articles we had to read were orientalist and were giving "white man's burden"- and there was no further discussion on why that is wrong. praying for ppl taking this class
I had more homework for this class than in my STEM classes combined. There didn't need to be so much homework for what this class is about. Some of the test questions were about miniscule details.
Proof that truly evil people exist.
The class materials were interesting. I just wish we had a different professor. Avoid interacting with him if you can. I genuinely felt as if he hates students and seeks to damage them. I don't understand why he teaches. Perhaps he enjoys the power and control. I wish I had any other option for this course.
Seriously, heed this warning. Do not take this professor for anything. His lectures are awful. He comes of as hostile and rude in person. He can literally ruin your life if you get on his radar for any reason. I can't stress this enough, do not take his class.
I did well in the class but it wasn't a great class. He was unhelpful, mean spirited and was well below the standards I've come to expect at UT. He was "a hero in his own story", but he wasn't in real life. One of the strangest and, when the office door was closed, nastiest professors I've ever had at UT.
He isn't teaching because he likes to teach. He wants to be in control. I figure he's been bullied in the past and his life's work is to inflict his pain on his students. It could have been a good class if he decided to be an educator instead of what he has become. Lacks self awareness.
Easy content, but he tries his best to make it as disengaging & difficult as possible. Poor teaching style, overly complicated exams, boring personality. I sat in the front row & never skipped, yet he would call me out in front on the whole class and even confiscated my laptop while I was taking notes. Sorry hes the only option for 320F, good luck.
If you like mental SH you're in the right place- take this class. Equivalent to a male Karen or the kid that says "teacher what about the homework". Antiquated is a very generous description.
Very boring professor overall. His lectures (which is what he draws a huge majority exam questions from) are just him droning on most of the time in a monotonous tone. There is also way too much reading and homework for what is a optional class for a minor. I might have had more work in this class than a typical math class (high school or college).
Class is very structured, lots of case studies, readings, and essays... Dr. Aroian is nice, but can come off a bit stand-offish (def has a chip on his shoulder) in class. Make sure you keep up with the case studies and take handwritten notes!
I think Professor Aroian is a good lecturer. Just make sure that you read and follow instructions. As somebody who hasn't taken a business-oriented class before, it has been worth it. There's a lot of stuff in the course that I wish I would have learned or been aware of when I had started my career.
The professor is a very tough grader, but he is kind and clearly cares about his students. He is stubborn when it comes to grades, but when it comes to life lessons, he genuinely wants his students to learn and be successful. I recommend making notes for each of the readings and focusing on understanding them rather than memorizing them.
