BEST PROFESSOR FOR ENGLISH 1! He's a new professor, but really nice, extremely helpful, and very understanding. He gives extremely easy assignments! He's very strict with tardies, absences, and turning in hw/assignments on time which can affect your grade. By looks, he's young-looking and cute. He stays after class if you need help with homework.
Great teacher, the best teacher I have had so far at SMC. It is a decent amount of work, and he doesnt like tardies or absences. However, he really cares about his students and helping them suceed. Gives out the grade the student deserves and the actual class was very interesting. Overall great experience!
He's very helpful, and knows what he's doing. He would spend the entire class time explaining an assignment if he had to. He makes sure everyone knows what to do, and there's a lot of papers to do, but it's English 1 of course there will be papers. I'm happy with my experience in his class. It also helped that he's pretty cute :)
Being his first year teaching at SMC,professor Hamada is very excellent instructor. I took him back for fall term 2011 and his class overall was easy. Just do the reading and writing and you should be fine. Just 5 mini papers and 4 essays, one being a research paper.
I took Mr. Hamada for Eng 21A for the semester of Fall 2011. He's a great guy. He's approachable and answers your questions through email quickly and thoroughly. He's very into attending class and participating regularly for preparing students for Eng 1. Overall really great guy. Take this professor.
BEST ENGLISH TEACHER I'VE HAD!! He is amazing. Definitely recommended. Easy A if you keep up with assigned work. TAKE HIM!! You won't regret it!
I disliked him the first few class meetings. He blows your email up everyday. The workload may seem like over kill, but it's easy. He's big on you speaking you must talk everyday. If you don't have your academic game up, then don't take this class because your goanna be picked on and looked down upon.
Professor Hamada is one of my favorite professor. He's very strict with attendance, so don't play the catch up game in his class. It's also mandatory to participate in class discussion and he makes use of all his book. It's easy to pass his class, if you do all of the necessary work.
He is great, really organized, perky butt, expects a lot from you -- hella strict on attendance as he is on his tentative agenda / class schedule but overall amazing ... he makes himself available for you and it is a for sure A if you do all the work. Works out of TSIS book and readings. Really nice guy. But will blow up your email.
The best professor at SMC. He grades you based on your ability to complete an assignment and understand it. Attendance is absolutely mandatory! Complete everything on time and never be afraid to ask for help, he's always willing to help. Took him twice already and both times were just as great.
Great Professor! He is really strict on deadline and due date but you should have enough time to complete all of them!It is quite pity that i cannot take his Engl 2 class and I Highly recommend to take his class!
Great teacher I took him for English 21A and he was vey helpful. I would highly recommend him! He is not a boring English teacher he makes Class interesting and fun! Read your textbook and do homework and you will receive good grade.
Hamada was a very thoughtful and helpful teacher, and was very clear about what he expected from students. Showing up to class (on time) is mandatory, and you must have the book on the first day of class or he will drop you. I learned a lot from his class, and my writing benefited immensely. There is a ton of homework through out the week.Take him!
Great teacher, Straight Foward follow his directions show up to class and you will do well in His class.
Attendance is a must and so is participation. Either he just hated me as a person, because participating every class, showing up to every class early, and trying my best to go the extra mile didn't help me. Ended up with a very disappointing grade which was a complete shock to me, never once have a received such a grade. He also is unorganized.
ATTENDANCE IS A MUST! DON'T BE LATE OR ABSENT. DO AS HE SAYS. TURN IN ASSIGMENTS WHEN DUE. I TOOK HIM FOR SUMMER AND CLASS SEEMED SO HARD BUT I LEARNED. ITS AN EASY A OR B IF YOU DO EVERYTHING RIGHT. HE IS AN AMAZING TEACHER. YOU WILL NEED TO CREAT A FACEBOOK ACCOUNT NO BIG DEAL. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND HIS CLASS =] =] =]
Extremely helpful professor! Probably one of the best at SMC!!! Attendance is a must and it's for your own good! Super chill guy. Easy to get along with. Take him! You won't regret it!
Awesome teacher and really good guy! Attendance is mandatory, he is a fair grader. You must follow his instructions! They're straightforward but he acts really shocked if you don't follow it to the dot.
Great teacher!
Strict on attendance. Tried to use Facebook with the class to send and complete assignments, turned into a disaster and a bother. Keen on atendance and does not consider any reason to why you are late or absent, takes off a lot of points. Throws assignments at you then prepares you afterwards. Would recommend taking another proffessor if possible.
Great teacher. Better than many that I have taken from the English department. This instructor is very organized and will point out on your mistakes. Because he is very organized he expects everything from you on time. If you miss a deadline, than he will drop you or will deduct some points.
Don't be late and do everything he asks. He has homework but doesn't check it. Also you need to participate in class because its part of your grade. He was the hardest English teacher but I good grade.
Students with essays that were only just legible never got lower than a B, but if you are a strong writer he will grade you unfairly. A very basic teacher, not sure what the hype on here is for. Homework for the sake of homework. Get prepared for very tame, uninteresting class discussions about things like whether or not to use hyphens.
While he is a tough teacher, he definitely wants to see you succeed. He is a wake up call for some students who want to "just pass" a class. He truly tries to get you engaged with discussion. He's a great teacher with great insight that wants to help you understand. He is super strict on attendance. You get one free pass, after that letter drops.
Expect to read, annotate, and write A LOT. Class is essentially one big group discussion ,so participation is necessary. He will clock you if you're not contributing. Very friendly and helpful, and replied to my emails fast. Syllabus is well put together, and his grading system is very fair. Definitely recommended, though not for lazy students.
Mr. Hamada is a great teacher. He is super fair and up front with you. All he asks is for you to COME to class, be prepared to participate, and do the reading. If you don't come to class more than once or if you don't do the readings it will gravely affect your grade. He is always available to meet outside of class if you are struggling.
do all assigned material and actually try you should get a good grade in this class. attendance is mandatory your grade will drop if you don't show up and then he will just drop you from the class have the required book before class starts or he will drop you. the readings he assigns for homework will be discussed inclass and participation matters
He actually prepares you along the way in the class. Like 4 small take-home essays and 3 in-class essays. He was about to drop me out of the class on the 2nd meeting because I didn't have my text book ready. Expect to work outside of classroom since he assigned homework like every other day. He follows his policies and expect you 2do the same.
This professor is extremely picky. You must attend class, his attendance is mandatory. You must have a facebook, and must turn things in on time, or he will drop you. Which, I think, should be up to the student. He cold calls if you do not participate, and he does not provide feedback, like ever. His readings are interesting though.
If you take him you must do everything exactly how he wants. If you miss two days you lose points or get dropped, there is non-stop homework and you must have a facebook to do it which is really annoying. Also, you must participate and do the readings everyday. He calls on people at random and puts you on the spot. His grading is pretty lenient.
Amazing teacher. So clear. Caring. Patient. YOU BECOME A GOOD WRITER IN HIS CLASS AND WRITING A 5 PAGE ESSAY WONT BE SCARY ANYMORE. But you have to care. Not a crazy amount just come to class and keeps to together. You have to do homework and stuff but he explains everything to you so it won't be hard. Not a joke class but you will become smarter.
Such an amazing teacher! He gives good feedback on essays that helps you become a better writer. Make sure you get the book needed, ASAP as he doesn't like students who are unprepared. The class is a big group discussion, he assigns readings from the book, which is fairly easy to get through and then you go to class and discuss what you read.
Definitely the best English teacher I've taken so far. He is strict with grading but it is because of him that I stopped being lazy and did my work. His reading and group discussions were extremely helpful. I ACTUALLY participated a lot. Impressive for me because I am quiet. My English writing skills definitely improved. Highly recommended!
He has u make a mandatory facebook account which I thought was inappropriate & assigns hw 2 days/week the class meets & on weekends due online too (every week). He is a good professor in terms of learning but theres other good professors. He also freaks out if youre late to class & u cant just get up to the restroom it felt like high school.
Straightforward professor. He is helpful and his assignments are quick to complete and provoke thought. It interesting to share thoughts on the readings for, if not for that, the class would be dead silent. He is understanding and honest. Do all your work on time and you're bound to get an A. And do not miss class or have constant tardies.
If you took his class, then good luck to you. There are so many nice professors out there. Even this guy is your last choice. trust me, go somewhere else. Not worth it. He will give you bad grade base on his feeling. He will deduct many points because you do not speak every time he asks a question. Workload heavy. Good luck to you.
Mr. Hamada overall is a great teacher, but he almost drove me to my breaking point. Lots of pages to read on an almost daily basis and homework due multiple times a week, on top of 3 tests and 3 essays. This class is no joke and made me want to cry. Overall though, he is a great teacher and I learned a lot and he helped open my mind up.
Have to read. If you don't read you will not pass this class. Very inspirational, due to this teacher i've got a clear sense of what English was really about. Nothing is easy as long as you do your best. So, if want to get to the next level in English, this teacher is highly recommended.
Great teacher! If you come prepared, participate, and do your assignments you will pass with a good grade. Great personality, be respectful and he will also show you respect.
Great professor! Come prepared to participate and learn. Ive learned more in this single English class than I did in high school. There are many opportunities to raise your grade. Mr. Hamada is one of the few teachers that truly cares about your progress.
Took Professor Hamada in the during the fall semester. He is very approachable and comes to class with a schedule and makes sure that all the tasks are completed so attendance is mandatory. Participation in class is mandatory so even if you stay quiet, he will try to help you rack up some points. Do your due diligence and you do well in class.
Professor Hamada has a really good and clear structure for the class, which includes 3 essays, and 3 writing exams. There is A LOT of reading and homework imbedded into the course, which does help make writing essays more easier. If you do ALL the work and all the essays to the requirements being asked, it is possible to score an A in the course.
In advanced writing it is expected of a college student to be able to use evidence to support any claims so if you think you can get an A easily, then this class will be very challenging for you. If you don't have a clear understanding of the material, the class discussions and critical questions he has will eventually lead you to understand it.
Very good and fair teacher. Be ready to work and write alot of essays.
He had a very strange way about him. Very particular. You cant have a binder; it MUST be a notebook. He will take off points for things like that. Makes you feel kind of stupid in front of the whole class. And wanted us to add him on facebook which creeped me out.
Caring Instructor. Helpful and easy to contact. Very strict. Always complete all of your assignments or he will call you out for it. The material comes clear during lectures and class discussion. Always participate in the class discussions.
You can really see that he cares about his students and wants them to improve not just in their studies, but also in participating in classes and in building bonds with classmates. This is really hard to find in cc's.. + His lectures and rubrics are super clear. We need more Professors like him! His class is 100% worth it. Trust me.
Received a B in the class because the professor failed to be clear when giving students advice. Would tell me not to worry about number grades as much but then when grading came around strictly based my grade off of the exact number he said not to worry about. Most contradicting teacher I have ever had. thinks he is right in ever situation.
Be prepared for alot of homework down the line. You will have to participate one way or another. Also he grades tough but not as tough as you may come to see if you take his class. Show up to all class sections or your grade will drop not like a lot but it'll drop pretty bad. Do all your homework and you will pass his class especially the essays.
I took professor Hamada for English 1+28. I learned a lot in his class and improved my writing skills. He really does care about his students learning and is available to give good feedback when you need help. Participation matters and you need to show up to class. Overall, good professor.
He's straight forward. If you're going to take his class be prepared to write a lot of essays, peer review, and reading. One thing I hated about this teacher was that he will certainly put you on blast in front of the whole class so joking around isn't an option. If you miss an essay deadline you fail, very strict about that.
He really isnt all that good when you get to know him, he grades tough and gets angry for the simplest things and sometimes doesnt give you clear instructions that if you get it wrong he makes it your fault and that aint cool so if I were you, your better off in any other class but with him just saying.
Mr. Hamada is an excellent english teaher. Although he may be challenging, you truly learn about english. This guy really takes the time to help improve your writing. He is fairly lenient on grading however, if you want an easy A. This is not your class. You must read and you must participate for a grade.
in his class you will write A LOT! and he is kinda boring but a good teacher who tries to make things fun and interesting.
Mr. Hamada has been a joy to be around, and has unraveled so many layers of my creative writing skills, critical thinking, and has taught effective reading tactics that carried into my other classes as well. I enrolled in two english courses with him: English 28/1 and English 2. He is reliable and very thorough with his feedback. Highly recommend!
Easy class but he does give a lot of homework and work but he's a very easy grader. Classes are a bit boring but easy to get through. If you need an easy A take him.
His class was one of the worst experiences of my life, trust me on this and don't take this class, his class consist of you reading and writing papers everyday, especially on weekends, I'm pretty he also has some kind of personality disorder, since he targets a student and makes his life harder in class, one of the worst professors in SMC by far.
I was taking this course around the time quarantine began. Professor Hamada did his best to adjust which is noble but soon we began to realize that he has a short temper for insignificant infractions & assigns more homework than there are hours in the day. Worst of all he isnt really understanding of peoples situations & doesnt try to understand.
He's great if you're not just trying to pass the class but also become a way better writer. You learn about so many different things in the class about writing but also about culture. There are a lot of homework assignments on canvas he DOES NOT accept late so just watch out for deadlines but overall they're short and straightforward. Loved class
I took English1&2 with him. It was A LOT of work but I don't think you could find a professor who makes the grading criteria any clearer. It's also better to have more graded work because as long as you do it all, you have a better chance of doing well. He was honestly amazing, this is my first semester at SMC without him as a prof and I'm sad tbh.
A great professor! He definitely knows what hes talking about and very badly wants his students to succeed. The biggest key in his class is to listen to directions, and as long as you do that, I dont see why one wouldnt succeed in his class. Definitely would take him again!
I don't know if it's because of his inability to adjust and empathize with the current situation of the pandemic, but he doles out homework excessively and very inconsistently. I check my canvas dashboard religiously and he fails to notify students of the assignments he sporadically assigns on days when we don't have class.
Hamada iis a very nurturing and caring English teacher. He can be a tough grader, but it's because he wants your work to be done a certain way and be better, but his criteria is very clear. He is one of the only teachers that takes his time to give feedback on every draft submitted from every single student ON TIME. He's pretty awesome.
He is a good teacher. No doubt he knows what he is doing and teaching. However, he leaves way too much homework. I mean like every day, even Saturdays and Sundays, sometimes on holidays too. His papers are mostly research papers. Overall no space for creativity.
This may have been one of the most demanding courses I've taken, but my writing and comprehension skills improved by a mile. There's copious amounts of annotating and essay writing, but the material isn't hard in the slightest. Mik was helpful and easy to get a hold of outside of class. If English is your strong suit, please take this class.
Prof. Hamada really helps to build your writing skills, and helps to prepare you for a college level writing and analysis of literary works. Hes very knowledgeable & wants you to learn so be prepared to do the work, read & participate in class & youll pass. Took him for Eng 1 & 2 and got an A in both by doing the work and actively participating.
Mr. Hamada was a great professor. I even signed up for a different course he was teaching after ENGL 1. Homework is very manageable and an A is easily attainable. However, if you don't do your assignments you likely will not pass. He's understanding and a nice guy. The course is quite essay heavy.
Professor Hamada was an amazing English 1 teacher at Santa Monica College. People may argue that he gives a lot of assignments and essays but in reality it's because he wants you practice your writing skills and improve them. If you show up to his zoom meetings, do your best possible work, and ask questions you will easily get an A
Mr. Hamada is a great teacher. His course is easy enough if you pay attention, read, and apply yourself. He grades fairly and is always accessible to his students. He is understanding, engaging in lectures, and an all around great teacher. He has a passion for what he does and I would absolutely recommend taking him.
One of the best teachers I have taken, I wish I can take him again. He does give out a good amount of work but he's always available when you have questions and even makes the time to help you out with your essays if you ask. He does offer extra credit so take advantage.
Professor Hamada's English 2 class is full of amazing readings, and he has a real passion for it. If you are or want to get into fiction this is the right class for you. He is also a very empathetic professor and gives great feedback.
All I have to say is this was like a Writing Boot Camp, I would be writing at least two papers at once. Wrapping up one draft while starting to think of ideas for the very next essay you will have to type. I also took a 6-week course. Professor does want you to succeed, but make sure you follow all his writing guidelines, and you will do great.
Professor Hamada is an interesting guy, in a good way. A lot of homework, even on holidays. However, it wasnt incredibly hard work, just very time consuming. He expects attendance and participation of you, understandably. Very strict on his guidelines. Hes a tad awkward, but it adds to his charm! Approachable. Cute. Definitely Recommend!
-Provides textbook -If you attend his class you should read the material beforehand or else gets a tat annoyed if the same people or no one participates. -Reachable outside of class -Cares a lot about his students -Praises student's works -Recommend taking him in summer/winter. Professor said he assigns more essays during a full-length semester
Great teacher, honestly. Overall, quite a heavy workload. However, my writing skills improved a great deal because of his feedback. There will be a lot of readings, many discussions, and a lot of papers. Most importantly, he prepares you well for English 2 and he is often available if you need help. Attending Zoom meetings is strongly recommended.
Very tough person, I thought he's nice before. A lot of homework too.
English has always been my weakest subject but Professor Hamada offered a variety of interesting readings that made the class enjoyable. There are a lot of reading and writing assignments but the grading criteria is straightforward. The course may seem overwhelming at first but you will progressively get the hang of it.
He has his own teaching techniques and then expects you to understand. He's not really great at explaining and he has a really monotoned voice so it makes you hella bored in class. He really expects a lot from students ... he may seem like an easy grader and a chill teacher but as the days go by, he starts to act different, a little rude sometimes
I love Professor Hamada. He's a great teacher and makes English literature very easy even for those who don't like the concept. Attendance is important and he doesn't tolerate phone use during class. He makes jokes and cares alot about his students. Would definitely reccomend him to anyone taking english at SMC.
Professor Hamada is a great professor. I took his English 1 class during the Winter semester (6 weeks) and learned so much from his class. Not only is he a great teacher but he is also a great overall person too. The class does require a lot of reading and the course is graded by assignments, essays, and exams. Pay attention and take notes = A
As a student who needs to see their own grade to stay motivated, this was extremely difficult because he hides the course grades from students. Each lecture requires attendance and he has activities in every class that's graded. If you miss a class, you miss the assignment that is only open for 15 minutes in class, and you will receive a zero.
He rarely even teaches, he would assign reading pages and put you into groups for the entire time, didn't learn a thing. Also super rude and arrogant, would not recommend.
Took Hamada for a summer course. I did not expect much but I knew I would love his teaching from the first day. He does give a lot of work to do at home, but it is mostly reading assignments to go over the following class day. I would recommend!
Professor Hamada is a good professor. I took him for ENGL C1000, which includes three essays during the semester. He is very strict about AI use and may require you to rewrite an essay even if you insist you did not use it, which happened to me. The class can be boring at times, but he is a solid instructor overall and a easy grader.
