Attendance is only mandatory if you want to get extra points at the end. If you are one who remember what you read than attendance isn't going to be a problem. At first her accent is hard to understand but with good listening skills its easy to catch on. Practice test and review helped me big time.

I LOVED her a teacher. She is hard yes but you get what you put into it. I have had her twice and which I could have her more than that!

Mika is a great professor. Her accent is a bit hard to understand at first, but it gets easier with time. She is very willing to help you and as long as you do the study guides for the tests it's fairly easy to get an A.

Yes she is Japanese and has an accent but any body with commonsense should be able to deduce what she's sayn. very easy class, everything you need for the tests is on the PowerPoint presentations, I hardly picked up the book, just make sure to pay attention and do the 5 easy homework assignments. you will get an easy A

She is the most helpful, clear, and easy teacher. Her instruction is clear and only you need to follow what she says in the class and need to attend regularly. I recommend every one who wants to get A to attend her class.

Accent? Seriously. Welcome to a global community. Not only do Clark student expect everyone to speak English, but no have an accent. Enjoy living in Kentucky, prejudiced Clark students. Excellent professor with a firm grasp of all material. I wish she was appreciated more.

Mika is by far my favorite teacher I've had. Many people complain about Mika's accent, but I had absolutely no problems. She made it SO clear about what she would test us about and her study guides matched up perfectly to her tests. I got an A on every single test and homework essay. I took A LOT away from that class. I absolutely LOVE her.

Very clear on what will be on the test, she is a very nice teacher. Her speech is some times hard to understand, but she knows when its hard to understand her. Though the writing assignments are boring, they are easy and not a lot of work! I recommend.

Easy A class. Just memorize the study guides, do the easy homework assignments, and you'll do fine. She tells you what is going to be on the test. Her powerpoints have all the answers for the study guides. Bonus exam at the end of the quarter that can give you major bonus points, but won't count against you if you score bad.

Mika's course for Psyc 200 was okay. I didn't have much interest in developmental psychology but psych is my major so I took the course, but it wasn't hard. She's funny,cute, and class is easy. Don't worry about the accent, you totally forget about it after the first couple days. Overall: I'd recommend for someone interested in lifespan Psychology.

Mika Maruyama is one of the best professors if not the best I have encountered in all of my college years. She is very helpful easy to understand even with the accent and brings a fresh energy to learning. Her teaching method is great using powerpoint everyday and videos to explain the material. 6 hw assignments, 5 exams, and final. Great class!

Mika is seriously an awesome teacher! She has multiple choice exams that are Not difficult at all because she allows a note card and she gives you a study guide with everything that will be on the test. Her lecture's are actually super interesting and she knows a ton! Has a few assignments but is willing to help. GREAT CLASS!

She is very nice and helpful, I think she is as clear as she can be without giving you the test answers. Pay attention to the study guide!! Sometimes test questions were confusing but if you ask her she will reword the question for you. Id take her class again! Also she is pretty funny when giving lectures.

Mika is one of the best professors I have ever had! She always has a PowerPoint of each chapter and let's you know what will be on the test. She also hands out a study guide that goes over everything that will be on the test. Her accent never bothered me, I thought it added character! Mika was a great teacher; she knows the material, & loved having students bring in outside knowledge to the discussion. She made it clear that she was listening to you & cared about what you said. Her lessons were from power points & she encouraged us to print them out the take notes on. Also had study guides that she lead us through each test.

She is SUPER clear about what she expects, and her tests are easy. Each test you get a study guide and a notecard. I asked her for help and she always replies to my emails within an hour. Takes attendance almost everyday. 2 page paper due every other week this is your homework. Its fairly easy if you are a psych major.

Mika is a very knowledgable and engaging professor. She has a passion for her job and loves her students. She makes herself available to students and is more than willing to work with you if there is anything you need help with. There are 5 two pg papers and weekly tests but she lets you use a notecard for all except the challenge exam and final.

Seriously just do what she says and you'll get an A. Print out the PowerPoint, turn in the homework, boom free points. You get a 3x5 note card front and back for each test which helps a ton. Honestly a relatively easy A.

Strict about her rules with homework and MLA format. just do it right! tests every week but the notecard makes it easy to pass. A few homework assignments that are 2 page minimum papers. Mika was awesome! She tried to make lectures fun and keep you engaged. She is Japanese and has strong accent so can be hard to understand but willing to work with you if you really can't understand her, I didn't have a hard time you just get used to it. She is super easy to relate to and super encouraging. Tests were easy if you read material.

Mika was an amazing instructor, so good after I took her for 100 I took her again for 200. She makes the lectures very entertaining, is very clear about what will be on the exams and even allows you to use a notecard on the exams. She makes the class very easy and if I needed any more classes she taught I would take her a third time.

It might be a little hard to understand her at time but she is always using powerpoints and videos. You have to write a two page paper every week but it's not that difficult. The tests are all multiple choice and she gives you a study guide prior. She's super entertaining and made the class fun!

I love Mika. Enjoyable, organized lectures. Says "highlight, this is on test". Very clear on what you need to know for tests. Additionally you can have a 3x5 card for tests, except final. A few papers but manageable. Put in the effort and you will get an A.

Mika's class has been a lot of fun. There is a weekly chapter to read, chapter quiz (not particularly easy), and a discussion assignment. Her grading criteria is very clear, and she grades assignments very quickly! She shares lots of interesting videos about the weeks topic, and responds really quickly to questions. Great class!

She is literally the easiest grader I have ever had. You don't have to come to class, but I found it easier to pass the exams if you're present. She follows the study guide and literally tells you what will be on the test

9 exams, 10 w/ final. 3, 3-page papers. I didn't do the first paper so that's why I got a B. Exams are so easy and she lets you use notecards on the first 8! Study guides are extremely helpful and be sure to do the practice quizzes on Canvas. Have to watch "How to Die in Oregon" on your own time but other than that it's a great class!

I took this course as a recommendation from a friend and Mika has ended up being one of the best professors I have had. SOC230 is a hybrid class on Domestic Violence and instructions and deadlines are *clearly* stated- she even would send us email reminders that work was due that day. She is so funny and is very attentive to the class.

Probably one of the best professors I have ever had. She wants you to succeed in class and is able to help you whenever you need her to. She makes the class very enjoyable and lectures are always interesting.

Mika is a really great teacher. There are 4 really easy essays in the term and they are really easy to get A's on. If you go into her office to have her look over it, I'm pretty sure she automatically gives you an A. It takes like 4 minutes and it is so worth it. She has a Japanese accent but she works really hard to be understood so it's fine.

I really enjoyed this class. Pretty difficult, lots of information covered in every test, you will definitely have to study a lot. The papers are easy if you just pay attention to the requirements. She is always willing to help outside of class.

This is the second class I have taken from Mika, but this one was online. She was exceptional both in person and online. It's a relatively easy class, but it's done well. She grades super quickly (usually same day or next for all assignments) with good feedback, it is clear what is expected of you each week, and she sends reminders for due dates.

SOC 230 is hybrid class about domestic violence; there are 3 books to read and multiple guest speakers. No tests, 3 writing assignments and several online discussion posts. She gives thorough feedback on all writing assignments and responds to emails quickly. Mika has been one of my favorite professors at Clark. I highly recommend her classes!

Mika is one of the best professors I've ever had, and I had her for two classes (psych100 & soc230). She is a real gem.

Mika is amazing! She gives really good lectures that are fun and easy to understand. She is willing to help and answer any questions. She provides a study guide for each test that is identical to the test.

This teacher is more than helpful in all that happens. The tests can get a little challenging in the fact that it is all out of the book so you have to find the correct answer for a while. There is only one homework assignment, can be different between a paper and a discussion that is to be detailed, and one test for each chapter.

Lectures are heavy but very interesting, she explains everything in an interesting way. There are 4 home works for 3 pages long each that you have to do. The study guide is very clear and very helpful for the tests. Tests are heavy, 60 questions each. If you have a question you always can ask the professor for explanation and she glad to help.

This class was pretty good. She's an easy grader, if you do the work you should pass. There are four essays throughout the term and everything that you need to put in them is outlined in the syllabus. There's a test every 3 chapters and you can have a double-sided 3x5 notecard. You can't have one on the final but it's not hard as long as you study.

Mika is the best professor Ive ever had! She is kind and caring. Her lectures are nice because she uses the study guide during it. Theres 3 essays, 4 exams, a challenge (make up) exam, and the final. You definitely have to go to her lectures to understand the material and read the textbook as well. She makes it easy and fun, very willing to help!

Mika was an absolutely amazing professor! Super charismatic and clearly likes her subject. Willing to help students during and outside of class and gave near-daily reminders about homework. Lectures were very fun and interesting, she has an awesome teaching style. Overall a wonderful prof.

We have slideshow presentations every day and watch videos. The usual chapter reading and notes are a must!! Also, there are 4 assignments in the whole term & 3 exams + Cumulative Final. All online right now, pretty good class, provides you with feedback on assignments, the textbook we used this quarter was great because it was built-in to canvas.

Dr. M has been one of my favorite teachers thus far. I found myself actively learning in her class because she makes learning very interesting and fun. This class consists of weekly study plans and study plan quizzes, discussion forums, a slide show presentation, and a paper at the end. I highly recommend this class, as well as all others by Dr. M.

The course was extremely well-organized, and expectations were clear. Prof. Maruyama seemed friendly and approachable. Assignments were essentially "turn it in for full credit". I did get the impression that Prof. Maruyama wasn't grading our assignments thoroughly. The expectations seemed almost too low. Learning was almost all from the book.

Mika is straight to the point with her expectations of class participation and assignemnts that are given and listed in her module. She kind hearted and is a great professor for success. I am moving forward with her and taking her Domestic Violence class as well and I hope to continue my education with her in it. Be ready to learn.

Professor Maruyama is the chair of psychology at Clark. Not generous with points, so make them count. Course is outlined clearly. Expect to put the work in. If you do, you will get an A. I learned a tremendous amount in her Lifespan Psychology class that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Very caring to students and staff ,yet when she is serious she is SERIOUS.I another of class on SOCIO 230 and she was as very supportive and caring towards students for such emotionally stressful class topic.

I have had her for 2 classes. She remembered me after a 2 year gap between those classes. I thought that was nice. As long as you engage with the material and try hard, you'll do great. She is an awesome and knowledgeable professor with real world experience in the subject.

She is one of the kindest teachers Ive ever met. You can tell she cares about her work and her students. I missed a due date and she reached out to me to ask if I was alright and offered me an extension. I couldnt recommend her enough, shes a quick and understandable grader, clear instructions, and not a very dense workload.

Great professor with short weekly quizzes, and a handful of papers and discussion posts. Be sure to do the reading and be sure that it marks as complete in canvas. None of the assignments are weighted so it's pretty easy to pull an A. She gives a fair bit of extra credit and is a fast grader and gives great individual feedback.

Mika is a fantastic professor! She provides a clear understanding of what is required of her students to succeed in her class. She is always willing to help, clarify, and answer any coursework questions. She also provides detailed feedback on assignments for each student. Mika is incredibly organized and professional. The online Lumen Learning courseware is super easy to use and the quizzes are easy. Each week there is a discussion and at the end of the term there is a PowerPoint presentation and an essay. She grades assignments quickly and always gives good feedback.

I took the course online, and there was a lot of textbook reading. However, you could get away with skimming, as all the important information is bolded and there are practice questions in the textbook. She's a fair grader and super nice, and she will help you do well. Let's you redo work to get better grade, however quizzes are limited attempts.

Amazing. She's strict on 11:59 deadlines because she grades very fast. You get one late coupon where you can submit an assignment a day late, otherwise a 20% reduction. Even then, she is extremely accommodating so communicate your concerns. One writing assignment and quiz weekly. Study plans and unused coupons are extra credit. Sweetest woman!!!

Mika was such a fantastic professor. At first, I was a little iffy about whether I would do well in the course at all. There were group discussions every other week and written assignments for the additional weeks. Weekly quizzes for the quizzes. The final was just a two-part writing assignment. Mika is a fast grader and gives great feedback.

Best Psych teacher EVER. She is literally so sweet and caring, she gives the best insight and she responds to emails in minutes. Every week there's a discussion post with a minimum of 300 words. She grades quickly, and you have a study plan to do every week, and if u take notes you'll do pretty well on the quizzes at the end. She also grades easily

The professor is amazing. She's the best psych instructor I've found, and although there is a lot of writing and reading for the online class it's by no means hard to keep up with. If you do something wrong, or don't get full points, she'll tell you exactly what you need to fix, and she also has a late pass if there's a time you fall behind.

Best Psych professor ever who had a clear rubric and gave feedback on areas I needed to improve on. Her words are very encouraging and puts lots of effort into her class. Weekly reading modules + quizzes that aren't difficult. The usual discussion posts that aren't too bothersome. Fun assignments such as a dream journal and watching documentaries.

I enjoyed her class, but beware that it is a LOT of reading. I also felt like sometimes her expectations weren't clear for projects, but thankfully its only two projects and then weekly discussion posts and three quizzes. We did have to read nine chapters in a week so I would start planning your time ASAP. Learned a lot though!

Clear grading rubric and expected assignments each week. Lots of reading and writing; however, the content in this class is interesting and not difficult to grasp. The two big assignments are making a powerpoint slide and a Paper that is just answering questions. As long as you put in the effort into each assignment, it's not hard to get an A.

Professor Maruyama was kind and professional. Sometimes I felt like there was a lot of work in a short time but I was able to complete everything so its manageable. She wasn't necessarily a tough grader but she could definitely tell when the effort wasn't put in and it reflected on my grade.

She is a hard grader, make sure you answer all of the questions thoroughly. Weekly study plan, quiz, and discussion. It wasn't that hard in my opinion, maybe took me about 5 hours each week. The presentation was decently hard though and same with the essay due at the end. She however is a very kind and caring person herself.

Prof. Mika was very quick to reply, she gave great feedback, she was very nice, helpful, and easy-going. The workload wasn't too bad if you balance it right, but it wasn't light. I was taking this class and 2 others (15 credits- so full-time). I would definitely take her other classes if I could.

She's pretty keen on details too, make sure you follow the directions and give your own piece of thought. 5-6 hours of work per week. not bad at all. She replies fast too which is nice.
