do not take this teacher, he is horrible
Absolutely horrible...doesn't clarify information well at all, and when mistakes are made because of that lack of clarification it is--of course--absolutely your fault. Can be very condescending in an attempt to make his point.
If you do the extra credit you don't have to do the final presentation. I paid attention in the class and got a B with little effort.
Very knowledgeable. Hard class, hard tests. You will learn so much interesting information. His class is very clear. Expect to study.
he won't answer a question. he gives you the answer to every question you never asked i guess in an attempt for you to just figure out the answer to your original question on your own. it's frustrating.
He is very passionate about the information he presents, however he teaches from the overhead, and the class is all image recognition. Quizzes every other week and lots of opportunities for extra credit. Expect to study and memorize lots of information.
I love philosophy and Im leaving his class going what on earth was that
I don't know what kind of students the dissenters are, but he is an awesome teacher. Very passionate but won't do your work for you. He answers as much as you need to make it the rest of the way yourself.
its not a hard class but it still sucks nonetheless take another teacher if you can but i did get an easy b in it, classtime passes soooooo slooooooowwwww
I'm not impressed with his approach..he is probably very passionate in his on-campus classes, but made the online version horrible. Grades very strictly, and expects you to teach yourself. I came to college to be taught as well as learn. I don't recommend him to anyone.
he gave me a headache the whole semester, it is hard to understand what he wants in his assignments. Very tough teacher.
Mike is a cool guy. He expects you to read the chapters outside of class, but he didn't assign homework other than that for Rel/World or Ethics. He does talk a lot, so take good notes. He recaps the previous class at the beginning of every class, and tells you what he'll be testing over with an in-class review. Can be a bit condescending.
Great teacher. I did have to study for each test but I got an A in the class. He is so interesting. You do need to read the chapters to be able to know what's going on the next day in class b/c he will call on you. Final presentation was easy! Great teacher. I would take him again.
Teaches interesting things, but it is nothing but image recognition. Makes it hard to study, especially when you can't pronounce half the names of what you are trying to study. Gets off on tangents of other things, so that adds to wondering what you need to know. Would NOT recommend for anything to anyone.
Mike is a cool teacher. He's very aggressive and picks on students who don't pay attention or don't grasp the topic. Don't take him if you need someone to hold your hand to "learn". He's tough but fair. I'd recommend him to anyone.
I learned a lot in this class. He isn't the best person to teach philosophy though. He mostly picks on people to answer odd questions that are never right. Even if you study for hours in this class and are making a high grade, he is still going to find every possible way to make you look like an idiot.
he was one of the worst teachers ever!! soooo boring in class...hard to listen to and i never had any idea what exactly to study for. he wasn't very clear about what he wanted us to know..he just rambled on the whole time
Very rude, yells at people if he doesn't like their opinions.
a lot of pictures to remember
This dude is WACKED!!! Be sure to drink a lot of coffee before going to class, you will be sure to doze off!!
I was pretty intimidated by this professor at first, but ended up really liking the class and learning a ton. If you take him you need to do the reading because he will call on you. If you show effort and show up, he’ll call on you less. No papers to write! If you want to leave class feeling like you learned something take him.
I really enjoied this teacher and I plan on taking him again.
take notes and you've got it in the bag
I had this class early in the morning so I barley showed up, the class is a little dry but he is pretty funny and very interesting offers alot of extra credit that you should definitly do bc it is VERY interesting places! Show up to class and study there is NO homework! I would probablly take one of his classes again
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER, HE DOESN'T TAKE ANY OF YOUR HARDWORK AT CONSIDERATION!
I took his class online and apparently he hates online, because he was not helpful at all. Dodged most questions and when he corrected mistakes on our papers to turn back in, he still counted off the correction that HE made. Total ass.
This professor is so awesome!! His class is so easy and your lectures basically consist of looking at pictures!! His tests are really easy and he is a really friendly teacher. I highly recommend him!!
Do not take this guy. I swear he makes all of this stuff up. At least once a week someone would prove something wrong he said in class. He bases his stuff off crap instead of facts and thinks he is awesome.
If you take additional notes and study the handouts he gives you you're set for an A. He knows the book inside and out, he can note the page number it's on without looking. YEAH!!! It's cool to learn about religions and art other than your own. Take this class for block II
He knows his stuff and is very passionate about it, he is their to teach and help you understand why the study of art is important to all cultures, he is hard, but he is a good teacher
This class was VERY BORING, all you do is sit in class and look at pictures. Very Hard class i would never take this class again! I did not like the teacher, he was very y and i thought alot of what he said was ridiculous!
this class was impossible. i attended every class period did ok on the tests and he still failed me.
He is a grat teacher and an excellent public speaker and lecturer. Yes his class is very difficult, but if you actually take the time to read the chapter at least once and study the handouts you are set for an easy A. If you are stupid and don't study at all of course you are not going to do well. He is very passionate and knowledgable.
Amazing person. Extremely knowledgable and interesting.
Just Show up and you should be pretty good
you know, he is hard as hell but a damn good teacher. if your a slacker or a blamer don't take him.
He has a odd way of asking questions. Use the study guide he gives you and the book both. Hard to follow if you miss class. Quizzes every two weeks. 1/4 essay. The rest is multiple choice. Quizzes and attendance/Participation are the only grades.
Nice person hard teacher.
Kind of misled about taking this class from someone who found it easy to memorize things. All about memory. If you can't remember then you might as well not take it. Very interesting stories. Extremely nice teacher. Lots of participation required. Do not miss class. Very important. If you can, make the trips to the museums for extra credit.
Terrible. That's all I can say. Usually I think that I am pretty unbiased when it comes to teachers but, he was extremely hard to understand and very technical in his wording. I would strongly recommend not taking this teacher if you have a life.
This teacher acts like all you have to do in life is study for his class. you can tell he is passionate about his subject but he is way to hard on a subject that is relative to no one's degree
I was not interested in the subject.
I've always loved art history so I have a special interest in the material. The instructor has a passion for the class, and is clear about what is expected of you. If you are not interested in art, and don't have high retention don't take this class.
He is a very nice teacher, and he absolutely loves teaching this stuff, but unfortunately for me I find this stuff extremely boring... But honestly he is a great teacher...
EXTREMELY intellegent professor who is obviously passionate about what he teaches.I had him for religions & new testament. Class format was 3 100 pnt tests, 100pnt participation and a final. NO ASSIGNMENTS AT ALL!! LOVED IT. u HAVE to show up, u HAVE to take notes, but he never puts anything on the test he doesnt teach. GREAT TEACHER. 100% Recommen
BE SURE TO READ EACH SECTION BEFORE COMING IN. He does randomly call on people to answer questions. Also, he doesn't give any other assignments other than the tests, so be sure to do well on all of the tests. No extra credit, and the final doesn't replace a test grade. It's not an easy class, but it can be fun if you have the time to study.
Asks questions that make you have to think... Phrasing of some test questions are hard to follow, but pay attention and take good notes.
Alot of material
This is a hard class if you are not good at memorization. He likes to ask a ton of questions throughout the class. There are no assignments only test and a particapation grade. Showing up to class is a must!! His lectures were not always intresting, he likes to teach with questions. However this teacher does know his stuff!
Great teacher. Asks alot of questions during his lectures. Gives up to 50 points of extra credit. Gives 10 quizzes, 3 tests, and the final. Always tells the essay questions before the tests.
This Instructor's intellect is massive
This guy is extremely smart. You couldn't disagree if you wanted to, he knows his stuff. Very east to stay on top of things, he gives pop quizes, just go to class though.
Mr. Adamek is really smart. He was one of my favorite teachers this semester. The material is pretty difficult to grasp at points but he does a good job of relating it to the students. He brings about so many different viewpoints about everything so it's really interesting. Do the reading and keep on top of the work he DOES assign and be fine.
Way to abstract for me. He was very hard to follow. He only lectures and you are graded on quizes and tests. I personally did not like his teaching style.
Enjoy kicking around philosophical arguments in this class, if you like having few tests and quizzes and no homework besides reading this is the professor for you
He really knew what he was talking about, and really seemed to enjoy talking about it. He challenges students to understand the work instead of just telling him what it was about. Reading book wasn't excessively important, but good idea. He often would put statements into questions which I never really got used to, but it was just odd.
Everything he says is a question. He seems irritated if the class isn't educated about something he finds interested. Not clear about what you need to know on tests. Test questions are a little tricky. Expects you to remember 50+ song titles, composers, paintings, etc by final. Not impressed.
I really enjoyed the class. Very interesting if you like to think about unfamiliar concepts.
I really enjoyed this class. Mr. Adamek is very very smart so you do learn a lot. Test are hard but he helps you out a lot on the final. Great class :)
He expected us to read the chapter before we came into class and he completely went over the chapter in lecture. It seemed pointless to read the chapter. By the end of the semester no one in the class was reading the chapter. It is a very difficult class. He confuses the students a lot and asks questions during lecture. He will call on anyone!
Mr. Adamek was probably one of the most interesting teachers I have had. He knows tons of different facts and bits of information that he adds into the normal lecture points that make it seem much more adventurous and interesting! I would take him for any other humanities class in the future HANDS DOWN! GREAT TEACHER!
really nice, and helps you out a lot!! gives study guides which are very helpful as well!!
He is a fantastic professor. He knows what he is talking about and makes it really interesting. He encourages the student to think and not just take the info as it is presented which I loved!
He didn't seem to understand the questions my class asked. He would talk forever about certain things, but then tell us they we didn't need to know that, but what we did need to know, we hardly discussed. This was an Honor's class, and did not meet my expectations.
I thought Art History was going to be fun and interesting, but his class was pretty boring and I couldn't stay focused. He had a tendency to go off on tangents. Some say he's really smart, but after hearing him mispronounce and confuse 4 different things on the first day, I knew that was untrue. He doesn't explain what he wants very well either.
Smart, knows his stuff, but does not know the best way to communicate it to his students. He lectures and expects you to take notes just from that. almost never writes anything on the board so it's hard to get everything down. Gives pop quizzes a lot and the tests are pretty hard. Also everything he says is in the form of a question. so annoying
Literally phrases everything as a question. I felt like I was playing jeopardy all semester. So frustrating. He doesn't use PowerPoints or any visual aids and expects you to learn all of the material strictly from lectures. If you are a visual learner like me I would try to avoid this class.
This is a "gotcha" class. I feel like he is constantly trying to trick you. He does everything in the form of a question. He expects you to know and fully understand every peice of art before you ever even walk into his class, I swear. I don't recommend him. He's confusing. OH! -- AND.. You get 30 MINS for a 40question/1essay test every other week.
This teacher is awful, he only does his lectures through his voice, no visual aids. Not only that, but his tests are awful. He asked detailed questions that you wouldn't remember unless strictly told to memorize it from his long lecture. But he offers no guidance, and if you ask for help he'll tell you to just read the book or refer to classmates.
This teacher is awesome! He's very passionate about what he teaches and tries to engage the student. Pay attention in class, there is little book work at all. Take good notes while he lectures. Ask questions, don't let anything that is unclear to you remain that way! Allow time to study before the tests. Remember, it works if you work it! :D
Very, very hard tests. I had to study almost 12 hours for every test. If you do not "cram" well for big tests DO NOT take this class. Cool guy, though.
Unlike others, he doesn't use a slideshow or the marker board. He lectures the entire class and has approximately 1 quiz or test per wk based on lecture. Both books are needed, you'll be reading from both. He knows his stuff, and expects you too as well. Tests are multiple choice & essay. If you show up, pay attention and study, its not TOO hard.
Class is basically about art and different cultures. It is a HARD CLASS, you have to work for your grade. I had difficulty following him in class lectures, but then again I never read the chapter before walking into the room. That was totally my bad, and now I have to re-take the class. :- And you can't miss ANY days or you will be lost!!!
I took two of his classes. I really like him. He is tough. He expects you to know your stuff. Class structure is simple, all lecture. Never any homework Quizzes are short but tests are hard with essays. He is very knowledgeable but if he is wrong or misunderstood something he will check it out and happily admit to his mistakes or misunderstanding.
While it may be listed as a 100 level class, it's taught closer to a 300 level class. His lectures are confusing as everything is finished with a question. His tests are tough as you only get 30 minutes which includes a 3-5 paragraph hand written essay. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR GPA
If you want a helpful, useful class, go ahead and pass on this one.
Very passionate and knowledgeable about what he teaches. One of the best and most interesting classes I have taken.
Stellar dude. He is clear cut. Lecture is important to attend, and quite honestly interesting. If you plan to skate by don't expect an A. Allows 30 points of extra credit in a 500 pt class. Drops lowest test score for your best test grade. Tip: if you're prone to being late to class take in the morning, doesn't count you tardy for being late.
It's a difficult class. He is going to stand in the front of the class and lecture without a pp or notes. Many post how annoying he is for asking everything in a question.. but it's a freethinking philosophy class. He is a dope professor. Not much you can do to study except write down every word he says. If you plan to skate by you won't get an A/B
I feel that he was a very clear-cut instructor. He asks questions to keep you involved, and was willing to explore different scenarios to better understand each philosopher. He offers a lot of extra credit, is clear about what will be on tests and finals, and is very easy to work with. One of my favorite professors.
New Testament - I actually enjoyed his class, but it was ridiculously difficult for a 100 level class. He is very knowledgeable, but would be better off teaching at a seminary. Unless you are looking to minor in religious studies, you'd be better off to find easier classes than this one to fill your humanities requirements.
Philosophy- TERRIBLE. He is very monotone and doesn't really care if you do not understand the class.
Great professor. He has a passion for what he teaches, he really makes you drop your bias in this class and forces you to evaluate different Philosophy as an argument. Put in the time and you will be fine.
Mr. Adamek is an amazing teacher! He is extremely knowledgable about philosophy, and he teaches it in a way that can be understood. He lectures, but he's not just reading off of a PowerPoint, and he gets everyone involved that way he can make sure you understand the information. I would definitely recommend him if you're taking Philosophy!
Entirely lecture, based on reading. You MUST do the reading to have any idea what's going on. There is no homework. Adamek is compassionate, fair and extremely knowledgeable. He's also older and sometimes gets his words mixed up which can occasionally make for a confusing time. Always ask questions, though, he will answer and own when he's mistaken
Philosophy 101 wasn't as great as it initially seemed. Adamek is so picky about students memorizing tons of abstract, unclear philosophies and who argued them. He calls out students in class and asks them something he said once two weeks ago, as if anyone can remember so much information. Tests (and final) are a ton to study for. No textbook use.
He is a very smart man & is a pretty good teacher. Nice guy. Sometimes his lectures can be confusing. Speaks in a question. Be prepared to be called on even if your hand isnt up. Book is only used a little bit, but is crucial for studying. No hw. Lectures all class. Essay on each exam. Lots of writing on the final. DO NOT SKIP & TAKE NOTES
Mr. Adamek was one of my favorite instructors of the semester. He is intelligent, thoughtful, and well intentioned. Adamek lectures are comprehensive and his style is Socratic. Some may criticize him for being circular. I don't or wouldn't share that criticism. In my view, Adamek lectures in a way that provides and reinforces clarity.
Mr. Adamek is a teacher you'll want to take if you have need for one of the classes he teaches. He has knowledge, he thinks deeply, he sees humanity and life in all their Glory. He can open your mind to ideas you did not know you needed, but are as vital as breath. The humanities pertain to humans and our experience. Arrive open and ready to think.
This class begs one to think and this teacher is a one man think-tank. Here's very diverse in his knowledge and will be honest with you. I carry those lectures and ideas with me still. Take any of the classes taught by him as it would only be to your benefit. We need the humanities. We need to feel & think deeply. Mr. Adamek will show you how!!! :)
I took 2 of Adamek's classes, it's been some time so I don't remember the course codes but one a basic level philosophy class and the other was a humanities class. As someone that loves tests and art and philosophy, the class was a breeze as long as you showed up every time. I didn't read the text but pictures were necessary for studying in HUM1XX.
DO NOT EVEN READ THE REST OF THESES! incoherent lectures, relies on you reading book but never tells you where we are, confusing tests. Do not take him. Stuck in the 1970s education. unclear due dates and what is wanted for each assignment. tries to teach over your head and uses big words when he doesn't need to. maybe knowledgeable, doubt it.
I took Mr. Adamek's "Intro. to World Religions" course over this summer and I must say that it was an extremely interesting class. I learned a lot from this class and it was interesting to learn about different religions. I will admit that it was a hard class because tests are worth about 70 to 90% of your grade, but extra credit is given out.
This has to be one of the hardest classes Ive taken. The way he teaches is meant for someone who is more interested into going into that field. If youre like me & like teachers who write notes on the board,he lectures the whole class time. Also if he sees youre not paying attention hell call on u. Beware of trick questions in class & on tests.
Professor Adamek was one of my favorite instructors while at OTC. His lecture style is informative and interesting, and he does a great job of reinforcing and emphasizing the information you need to know for exams. Some criticize him for repeating himself, but I thought it helped to clarify the material.
His tests and quizzes are open note. He has really good lectures and stories regarding the topic. The class has only tests and quizzes so no assignments. He's really nice and good at teaching.
Professor Adamek has engaging lectures and helpful stories. Tests and quizzes are open-note, and extra credit is available. For study prep, unstuck study and the free textbook are great resources.
