Cool professor. His leactures are very interesting. You'll learn a lot.
this guy sucks. idiot. make the test so hard. killed half class of the students. sometimes he don't even know how to solve the problem, always look at the student solution book. don't take his class!
Superb! Makes the class very enjoyable. He is right when he asks students to show all the work on their tests. He is the man...his classes will always be interesting since they are funny. He is a very good teacher.

he always makes the class fun and interesting
Oh please... I have no clue who rated him as an average teacher. Here's the bottom line: He is a notorious MATH instructor. No one likes him. If you don't believe me, run a poll on the campus and I bet you'll hear the samething.
Has a reputation for giving very difficult tests. Spent one entire class period trying to work one problem he assigned for homework. One day he forgot when class started and missed it, later missed another. With 5 class days left gave two tests and final.
Jerk- when I dropped the class, he was mad and told me to get checked for learning disabilities, then I toke the class with a dif. teacher and got an A
if you want to learn take him ...he is demanding but you will learn a lot...loved his class
He is funny and blunt. He tries very hard to teach you what you need but you can't miss a class and expect an A. Be there.
Difficult teacher, makes you feel like you are an idiot if you don't remember information learned years ago. Final exam was worth 40% of our grade!!! Good luck
After three semesters of Calculus with him, I can say Mr. Albanese has taught me more than any other teacher at CPCC. Take him if you want to know more than your friends at their state schools.
The worst math teacher on the planet! Take Coleman or anybody but him. Test are much more difficult than homework or lecture, if you want to call it a lecture.
I had Mr. Albanese class in Spring 04. His test were very hard, I thought he could have made it a lot simplier being that he teaches at a community college. I ended up getting a D. I am taking the class at UNC-Charlotte and it is a lot easier there.
He is the best. I really enjoyed him and the class.
Excellent teacher. He demands the very best, and prepares you well.
The worst instructor on the planet!!!!! I advise any student at cpcc to take this course with another math instructor!!!!!! I know many intellegent students who have made C's in his math course.
REALLY FUNNY! LOTS OF GOOD STORIES. PRETTY LENIANT.
Very funny! He is willing to help those who REALLY need it. Does not tolerate those who are not willing to learn. If you want to understand and learn math well take Albanese, if you do not and want a Bull**** Grade take someone else. Albanese does not put up with CRAP! Dedicated Students Only!
If you would read most people's comments all he is... is FUNNY. He spends most of class time mocking students. He makes nothing but mistakes on tests (he puts things on there from other chapters and makes errors when grading tests). He likes to calculate things in his head (which is why he makes countless mistakes) and that is his main flaw.
HE DOES NOT USE TIME EFFICIENTLY! He uses it to render his own students stupidity! We were always behind because of his childish stories. He makes infinite errors when he is up on the board cause he likes to calculate things in his head rather than writing it out. Sometimes students had to figure out the math problem for him. Not a serious prof.!
Remarkably inefficient and error-prone, though rather funny in a dorky way -- he likes to poke fun at certain students in the class, though not in a malicious way. Also, he is rather eccentric.

Ok... Albanese stinks at grading tests. He took like almost all points for a simple mathematical error. Come on! He's a pretty strick teacher. I think he wants his students to really learn, but the bad grading gots to go.
Very good at providing clarity in calc. concepts. SOME of his tests are rough, but he still provides a lot of clarity in CONCEPTS. The analytical work he does it in his head and that can sometimes leave you in the dust, but its nothing serious only if you know your algebra.

Very good teacher and very funny!!! He is willing to help students anytime. =)
This teacher is funny and awasome. His style of teching is good.Test are little hard but if you know his material and do all homeworks. You will be fine and do good on test. But you have to watch out when u get your test back look all your paper through. Overall its fun in class.
WORST professor ever!!! He thinks he is cool but he is not! He does not treat all students equally, he has his favorites, and he shows that when you try to get help. I would NOT recommend him to my worst enemy!!! He made me dislike math overall, and that will hinder my future success in math, I do not appreciate that!! HORRIBLE professor!!!!!!
I had him for Trig...I forgot the section #....The class was pretty tough but Albanese wasn't a bad teacher. A ton of repititon on the problems and you should be fine. Theres only so much the teacher can do for you.
He did not help me understand the material. He is a kind helpful teacher but if you are Learning Disabled student avoid him.
He is a horrible teacher that doesn't go into detail enough on topics or sections...if signing up for calculus i would deffinetly not sign up for this guy.
I had Mike in 171;172;271!! Well, many people say bad things about him. I can tell you, if you want to learn something about Precalc, and Calculus, he is the guy. I don't care for his jokes or whatever, i am there to learn something. He is teaching "old school", but if you do what he tells you, everything works out. Attend classes, dont be late, n
Fine Teacher. Clear instruction, gives students who ask help.
Enjoyed the class. If you are prepared to work and attend class, you should do well. If you want to goof around, don't even bother signing up.
Not a very good professor in terms of clarity. He is a very nice guy and will help you out if you need it, but half of the time it seems like he doesn't even understand the material he is teaching. If you are late for class, don't show - he will get extremely mad at you for interupting.
Good teaching
He is fun and serious about his job . Ask question if you don't understand .He is very smart and helpful . If you have any problem talk to him .This is my second Class with him .
I loved his class, he is a great pre-cal teacher. I did pull a whole nighter before the exam and I got a high B. Just do every question on his review and you'll do good!!!
stay away from this guy. He is an evil
He is very good in what he does. though i think his old age is begining to catch up with him and that affects his calculations.
Funny guy. But he's kind of mean. He asks that you show work on tests for partial credit, yet you never get the partial credit. The final was easy, but I definitely am not going to take him for Calculus!
KNOWS HES MATH.. BUT SPENDS HALF OF CLASS PICKING ON PEOPLE. HES AGGREVATING AND MAKES DUMB JOKES!!! HAS HES FAVORITES
Great Math Teacher. I wish he could teach some Math to these teachers down in FL. I had to leave Charlotte and I miss my him so much. He explains everything very easily and if you take notes and do the work online you will get an A and you will learn a lot.
Albanese is a good teacher. His teaching is so-so but he is very helpful. However when you ask a question be specific because he doesn't want to re-teach the lesson. He WILL get behind because he love to tell stories which are kind of funny (keep in mind this is a math class not stand-up show.) Also he does have a temper so don't be late or text.
Great, non-traditional guy. Confident and knowing his discipline instructor! Really enjoy it!
Makes silly jokes. Picks favorites and ignores the rest of the class. Tests were OK. Made lectures difficult to understand. Rrespects time anad discipline.
Not too much luck with him, he knows his stuff but it's hard to grasp the material he teaches. The tests seemed a little overly hard.
I have had three of Mike's classes and I definitely recommend him. He digitizes his notes, answers emails promptly, and cares if you show continuous effort. Forget you own a cellphone in his class and if you are late, expect a locked door. He is consistent which makes his tough cell phone policy a small price to pay. Serious students will like him.
Mike is an amazing man. Extremely humorous, which makes math easier to sit through. His tests, however, are extremely difficult. He will tell you that the questions come from the homework, and don't spend too much time on that. Interested people will do well.
I couldn't pass by .4 points, teacher said he would have helped if it was a little bit less than that... Tests were hard and never was there enough time to take them.
He sucks, he normally never knows what he's talking about. And he cracks those jokes that nobody ever gets and starts laughing randomly. Not a good teacher at all.
I strongly recommend against taking one of his courses. He loses his temper in class and lacks any professional discipline. He gives three tests a semester and they only have 10 to 12 questions. This combined with the fact that he is an unforgiving grader, rarely giving partial credit for questions makes for a tough course
terrible teacher if you want to take pre-calc and pass with understanding don't take this guy. Take C.Nguyen for Mat 171 and 172 much better than this guy. Before coming to his class i placed into stats but forgot at little of my pre-calc so i wanted to take Mat 171 bad idea. Whatever you do don't pick MIKE Albanese you will regret it.
Terrible teacher. Has anger issues and gets frustrated very VERY easily at students for minor things like being 30 seconds late or being suspected of possible having your phone on. Doesn't really do a good job of making the information understandable. Uses questionable methods to obtain answers. Didn't like him. AVOID HIS CLASS IF YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, Mike has issues with stupid people. When you show up for class late and have your cellphones going off, he gets REAL cranky. As well he should. This is a college class, not a daycare center. Grow up, complainers. Mike knows his stuff and is more than willing to help those who are respectful and give an honest effort.
Mike is one of my favorite math teacher I've ever taken a class with. He is nit-picky about being late and cell phones, but really guys. Just don't do it. He doesn't explain things very well, but if you ask him for help or to slow down HE WILL. But in a math class it doesn't make a difference who your teacher is. You just gotta practice.
Hes a horrible teacher, i would advise not taking his class, poor teaching skills
This teacher puts a lot of emphasis on phone use, and tardiness so, avoid having prior engagements in his class. He is relatively unorganized(I.E giving the corrected sheets to Test #2 after taking Test #3) which becomes a problem on test days where the test should be on section 1-4 and contains questions from sections 3-6.
He is a really good teacher. His tests are a little hard, but in cal 2, you need to work hard and spend time for it which if you do, you can get A on his tests. He cares about students and tries to answer your question in anyway either in class or via email. He is the best math professor in CP. Homework is not required but just do it if you want A.
Mr. Albanese is a fantastic professor, his tests aren't easy, but if you put forth the effort to study and do problems from the book(MathXL is trash for studying), you will do well in his class.
Not a good professor! He seems to know what he's talking about and everything is understandable in class but tests are totally different from mathxl and to lecture class. Defenitely a professor I wouldn't take again!
I thought he was a great and likable instructor. Doesn't mind clarifying info as long as you are paying attn. in class. His test were very hard for me. Would I take him again... maybe-ish?
He is a fair good teacher. His tests are a little hard, but if you do the homework u'll do good. He's helpful and clear in his instructions. Thumbs up!
Instructors tests do not reflect at all what he teaches or shows for examples in class. Just learning Calculus, tests are too difficult to understand. You don't even know where to start.
Started with him in 171, have chosen to take him for 172, 271, and will continue. He tests on whether or not you understand the material, not whether you can memorize the steps. Also, his teaching style is full of proofs and explanations of why something is the way it is, not just "memorize this formula, because." Funny, friendly, helpful.
I had him at West Virginia Tech years ago. I am now a professor and have been one for twenty four years and I still have another six years to go until I can retire. I thought he was a great teacher at Tech in the eighties.
if you really want to pass the class, rethink about him. you are emotionally touted with him.
Excellent teacher. If you show up for class and participate, you will have no problem in this course. Just be sure you're not late or leave your cellphone on. His wrath is legendary!
If you already know the material going in then this class will be easy for you. If not, don't expect to rely on him for help. His rules are a bit childish. He has a problem if someone leaves the room to go to the bathroom. His attitude is poor and he hardly ever understands the students questions.
Take the hardest questions from the book and those are what you'll see on his tests. You'll need to be good at math as well as understand any new concepts. He uses tons of fractions as exponents.
I took an online math class with Mr. Albanese and it was the most difficult online class I've ever taken. He was so unhelpful and rude in his emailed responses. Avoid taking any of his classes if you waant to pass.
This instructor is the worst I've ever had. I took one of his online courses. He is not helpful at all, if you ask a question, he always gives you a sarcastic answer, and if it's a question about the material, don't look for any help from him. I thought an instructor's job was to teach, but this instructor doesn't think so.
So far the best math teacher ive ever had.. He explains everything, strong basics.. If you are a student who really wants to study then he is the one.If you just wanna hang around and take classes for the sake of it, you ll never pass. your efforts will pay you and he helps a lot. He is funny and picks on people but heyy if not class would be dry..
Man, dude is nutz..... silly sense of humor but dont do a good job of explaining the math. Wont respond to emails except with short answers that dont help.
Good teacher. He knows his stuff. He doesn't give hw but he wants you to practice, he's 100% honest with you, and he's always willing to help. Teaches you what you need. If you want to pass just work out problems he recommends and that's all BC his test are easy usually 10 questions.
in a way he is a good teacher. though I took the class online but at least he allows you to take the quiz twice.
First off, I'm a good student. I make straight A's and I like math. With that said, Mr. Albanese is the worst. He can be funny and entertaining, but he gets side tracked and is not helpful. The last class before the exam, he flipped out and left the room over nothing. Don't take his class, unless you're some math genius.
He is a great teacher who is always going to help you if you need it. I would take pictures of problems and email them to him with questions and he would respond. He understands when situations arise. He's funny and makes class interesting. Had two classes with him, 172 and 271. You must do the homework to pass the class! Ask questions! Do the HW!!
PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS TEACHER! If you learn math passively or do math repeatedly to learn, you will fail this class. His test are hard and he basically teaches exactly how you read it in the book without breaking down the theory of Calculus. Don't study you will surely fail, I studied night and day and still failed. The hardest teacher ever
He can make people feel uncomfortable with his humor but if you're not that social he will leave you alone, definitely knows what he's teaching and if you want an A for his class I would say start working hard from day one. He wants you to be punctual, no phones in class. Just follow his rules, do the homework and you'll be fine.
Mr. Albanese is the hardest teacher I've ever had. He knows his stuff, but teaches straight out of the book. He goes very fast through his lessons and makes his class very difficult for students. I had a class with 35 people in it halfway through the semester and only 8 showed up for the final exam. If you don't know it already, you won't learn.
knows what he teaches, will stop periodically to make sure everyone understands whats going on. answers any question. likes classroom discussion take the opportunity to speak up otherwise he will keep going and you will be left behind.no phones, not a fan of people leaving class, great person.
I think i speak for the majority of people when i say he is the worst teacher i ever had for math. He does know the material but doesn't teach it very well. His test r completely different than wat he teaches and he goes off to tell stories about McDonald's and unnecessary stuff that we don't want to hear. Overall hes a great guy but sucks teaching

Bottom line: He will give you what you deserve and what you deserve is how much you studied. I've read some of the comments, he tends to go a little fast sometimes but will explain ANYTHING you want till YOU tell him that you understood. His tests are exactly what he taught. He is is a great guy but do not expect to pass by not doing your part.
if you want an A for calc 3, take this professor. EASY A.
He's so funny and into math! I'm not a real math-ish person, but he made this class really enjoyable!
Mr. Albanese is the best math instructor I have EVER had. I am a horrible math student and he made trig easy enough for even me to understand. He's comical and energetic, has a touch of sarcasm and is a delight to watch lecture. He takes something that is traditionally boring and puts a fun and entertaining light on it. Bravo!!
I have taken 2 semesters with Mr. Albanese and have already signed up for another next semester. I can say that in order to receive an A for his class you need to show interest and go to his office hours. He mostly teaches basic problems in class, and on the tests the hard questions from the book appear. He will help you anytime YOU just need toask
good teacher helpful funny. probably the best math reach the school has
its not fair to pay money to the worst teacher ever so i just wish he dont teach any more
worst professor in history of schools and collages
The tests I took with Mike were very similar to those I am taking now as a GRADUATE MATH STUDENT! I remember having to drop other courses because his tests were so demanding. If you are planning to transfer to a university, take your remaining math courses at the university where you will have quality math instructors.
I read the poor reviews this instructor received and disregarded them thinking to myself "I can study a lot and still do well." This is not how the course went for me largely due to Mike's unreasonable expectations and poor teaching strategies. I studied nonstop neglecting my other courses and still came out with a pitiful grade.
Mr. Albanese is one of the best teachers I've ever had. I took Calc I with him and it was the most difficult class I've ever taken, but it has helped me tremendously in the rest of my educational career. His classes are entertaining and insightful. I wish I could take more classes with him.
Honestly one of the coolest professors I had. Never dreaded going to Calc3 and unlike my other classes, never skipped a single lecture. His tests are based off of the suggested homework problems (which he doesn't require you to do). Really cool and funny individual. Calc 3 isn't suppose to be easy so don't expect the lecture to be enough to pass.
Tests are kinda tough but he lets you bring a note sheet. Do all the assigned homework problems and attend lectures and you'll be fine. Pretty lenient on grading problems we haven't spent a lot of time on and drops a few of your lowest quiz grades. Overall a challenging, yet rewarding experience.
I took Calc 1 with him and it was REALLY hard. I learned a lot though and it has helped me tremendously as I continue with my educational goals.
I had the pleasure to be a student in one of Prof. Albanese class this semester. He is hilarious, and he will remember each student by heart! Before every test he will give out a study guide and it looks identical to the one that comes on the test! I started a group study along this course and he supported me by giving me my own classroom! -Saeed
Make sure you complete Aleks. The study guides ARE THE TEST!!!!!!! You will need tutoring. If taking it downtown go see Holly the math tutor!
His tests are brutal and you have to study. Homework isn't mandatory, but you need to do it to succeed. If you show him you're willing to work, he'll take note. He dedicated a lot of office time into making sure I understood all of the material. Make sure you have enough time to dedicate to this class. He's no pushover, but he's still a good prof.
awesome
I took this class even after I read reviews that encouraged not too. I HIGHLY regret taking this course with him brought my GPA down. I had all A's in my other courses!! He's a very hard grader and says his test are like his study guides (yea like 10 x harder)If you are serious about your grade PLEASE do yourself a favor and don't even CONSIDER HIM
1. Very rude and unhelpful via email (this is for an online class btw) 2. Inconsiderate of an average full time working situation 3. Will not explain problems from homework even though there is a link to send questions to professor on the software 4. Provides zero lecture videos. Basically he is irrelevant to the class except for grading tests
Professor Albanese might be good for those that are SUPER sharp, but not for me. He assumes you know what he's talking about and skips the process, and if you ask him, he looks at you in a weird way! He also makes racist comments. He's not accessible after class. If you're like me that need to be shown every step in a problem, DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
Mr. Albanese is a really tough teacher but isn't as bad as some reviews state. Was the class hard? Yes. Hands down one of the hardest classes I've taken in my years. Is he a good teacher? Yeah he is pretty solid. But you may find yourself teaching yourself at times. Would I take again? No I would not. If you don't like working hard, then avoid.
Mr. Albanese is a very good teacher, I don't know why there is a lot of bad comments on him but he is a very nice, cute and funny teacher. He helps me a lot! Just do the homework and show him that you care about your class! Then u will be fine.
You dont have so much homework to do except for Aleks. Homework on Aleks is not about have-to thing. I think its your responsibility to do it. You cant blame your professor for not teaching you well. Every professor has his or her own way of teaching. My tip is, finish all of the Aleks homework and his study guide. Then, youll pass.
This professor is very hard ever I took. He clearly does not explain well. No study guides, no notes, no formula provided in exams. He is very tough and hardly teaches students. Instead to take his class, please take with other professors and learn more. He is so hard and does not know how to teach clearly.
Mr. Albanese is a fantastic professor. I had him for Calc 3, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations and learned so much. If you do the homework and pay attention in class you'll do fine, if not then it's nobody's fault but your own because material from all of the aforementioned resources will appear on the exams.
Mr. Albanese is a good teacher. He guides you through the steps of solving problems to help you. He also provides study guides for every test, and spends the class time explaining how to solve what you do not understand. He is also very funny, and keeps the class interesting.
worst teacher ever. he seems to like the students that brings him orange juice.
This guy sets you up to failed. His test is completely different from the book and you have to bring him drinks to get a good grade. Ive should have transfer out when I had the chance.
This is so far the hardest class I ever take. Maybe he is good in classroom, idk but online during summer, it is just impossible. You don't have any video, you just need to read the book (which is no the easiest one) and also the guides he handle to you are no clear. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE PLEASE!. Btw, I am a good student who loves math.
He is super sarcastic so take anything not relating to math with a grain of salt. If you already have a heavy course load I would recommend steering clear of any math course as the online aleks work is numerous and hard to keep up with. If you dont do the aleks, you will fail. Be committed. Professor Albanese also loves criminal minds.
I loved math, always did. But somehow no matter how many late nights I had studying- I couldn't pass the tests. He reminds me of the kind of professors high school teachers warned you about. No sympathy what-so-ever. After the first test, he encouraged the students that failed to drop the class because math wasn't meant for them.
Very sarcastic and funny. Likes to joke with students. He cares about students' ability to succeed. He would always ask us when our tests in other classes were so we wouldn't have 2 tests in 1 day. He let people stay well past the scheduled end of the final to let us finish. He gives optional hw, but if you don't do it you will fail.
Hes a very sarcastic guy so dont take anything he says to heart. study guides similar to the exams. If you dont study or do the aleks you will not pass. He will usually use the last 15 minutes of class for questions so utilize it. Clear expectations of students that if you follow he will be more inclined to bump you from a High C to a low B.
3 tests worth 20% each, final worth 20% and replaces lowest test grade (potential 40%), signature assignment worth 5%, ALEKS hw worth 15%. Provides great test reviews. His tests are super hard and drug down most of the students. Started the semester as livley but just turned into a grump by the end. Will take 5% of test if caught on phones or late
His advice in the beginning is to drop the class before its too late. Also, students test grades should not be penalized if he SEES a device out. He says its in the school policy but I checked the code of conduct, his syllabus, school policies, you name it, and it says nothing about taking off points for ANYTHING if you have a phone out.
He's good at teaching, don't get me wrong. I feel that his lectures are very informative and he does explain the material. It's just the fact that other than homework, your grade is decided by a couple of tests and the final. Those tests, by the way, are not easy. Some material on his tests may cover things very briefly gone over in the lecture.
Tests worth 55% of the final grade. Amazing teacher. Funny/Sarcastic. The lectures and the online homeworks/quizzes have nothing to do with each other. During lectures he teaches from the book, very deep conceptual learning, the "whys and hows". Very hard tests (some from the homework and the rest if u get the concepts if will get it. (tough class
Mr. Albanese was a awesome teacher! Not a lot of homework besides Aleks and splits them up so your not having to complete 50 topics the day its due. He also teaches from the book and goes into detail (the hows and whys). Be aware that this is an advanced math course. I you are not ready you will struggle regardless of the teacher, so come prepared.
Hes the best
Took this as an online class and while from other reviews it seems he's okay in person, online was an awful experience. I felt that I basically taught myself the entire class and was frustrated by his lack of email response. When he did respond he only rarely was able to help at all or answer any question I had. His notes also had a lot of typos.
Did not have webex meetings besides the first day. He posted videos of him going over the material and responded quickly to emails. Not that much hw on alex and everything was easy to navigate online.
Four tests worth 80% of your grade. Optional final. The way the course was run through Cengage was sooooooooooo nice compared to ALEKS.
Tests are 80% but if you know your material he is a gracious grader. For Cal 273 participation matters because if he sees that you care and put in your best effort he will return the effort (responding to emails quickly, helping with homework problems, etc.). He posted helpful lecture videos for my hybrid class.
(Online 273 student) The posted lecture videos showed no sign of engagement or effort. The audio was either quiet/loud and you could mainly hear screen tapping from him recording on a tablet. He did respond to emails and grade assignments quickly. Tests can be forgiving. Don't expect good lectures. Only grades are tests and quizzes.
emailing him once about a test that was supposedly due on a certain date BUT decide to push it back without notice like cool it was pushed back but not when he emails you back vague answers. And god forbids that submitting a whole paper of written work for one problem isn't enough to show an answer.
Professor Albanese was very understanding and helped me a lot. He is a great instructor, if you ever have an issue just email him and he will respond right away. h recognizes hard work and appreciates it. He is also very funny, his class is never boring.
Perhaps he would be a better professor in person, but I took the online course and it was horrible. 4 tests make up the bulk of your grade, and if the work shown on the first 5 questions of said 4 tests doesn't satisfy him, you will fail those tests. It was a hassle trying to get an A in the class.
He came off as a jerk initially, but he is honestly a great instructor. This course had very manageable work and he's a funny and personable professor.
Great professor and a hilarious guy. He teaches well and offers help outside of class. Make sure to write your work out neatly during tests or he will strike you for it initially. One test dropped 2-grade letters because my work was messy but I went to his office hours, explained what I did, and he fixed it. Overall good class and teacher.
Struggled in this class at first but Albanese's style definitely grew on me. He grades hard and there's tons of homework but lectures were interesting, in-depth with proofs but good test prep, and always entertaining. I was able to redo work on one test for a better grade, he will help you succeed if you show you care
amazing professor, but the course is VERY TEST HEAVY!!! if you fail one test pretty much ur grade will drop by a lot. but i enjoyed him as a teacher, responded to all my emails within 24 hrs whenever i had a problem with the test he'd always be very understanding and let me retake one. lectures were kind of boring, but overall easy to understand
Prof Albanese is a good prof, but he does grade tough. He will take off like half the points on a test question if you didn't use a certain method even if it didn't specify to use that method, or if you didn't show trivial steps in the work, even if you got the question right. At the end of the course though, he did drop lowest grades which is cool
Tests make up 80% of your final grade, quizzes are 15% and hw assignments are 5%. Pros: - Hw assignments give you several attempts to answer the question for credit - Tests are open notes and he tends to be a merciful grader Cons: - It's entirely possible to get a B on every test and still fail the class. Homework matters more than you realize.
I took MAT280 and MAT273 with him. He's a VERY picky grader in both classes (test questions must be solved exactly like how he does it in class or like the WebAssign solutions in past assignments). He reuses past homework/quiz questions for the open-note exams, so review those (even during the test if you're stuck). He's generally funny :)
He explains fairly well, though his lectures sometimes miss homework topics. You can read the provided PowerPoint for extra info. He is a tough grader so you must make sure the work is shown completely, do not skip any steps in the work. The theoretical parts of this course can be difficult to understand through the online lectures.
Lessons are explained in videos and attendance is taken by quizzes each week but it is pretty test-heavy. He was always willing to help during office hours and responds to emails fast.
I took his MAT-271 Class as an 8-week class. It was pretty fast-paced but also a short class, so I get that. He is a harsh grader when grading tests, but it is a college-level class. you can't expect him to be lenient on grading. Overall, Mr. Alabanese was a really good teacher for MAT-271, and I'd definitely recommend taking him for that class.
A genuinely amazing professor with a clear grasp on the things he's teaching! He works hard to make sure that people understand the things he's teaching and is always available through his email to respond to any questions you have. He is also very accommodating to his students' needs, allowing for extensions and redoes beyond the norm.
Dr. Albanese is an amazing teacher; you have to pay attention to his online videos because if you don't pay attention, YOU WILL FALL BEHIND. He answers his emails and helps you as much as he can even though he is teaching other classes. Take notes for sure and be sure to always study for your test and do the reviews he offers you. Awesome guy.
Prof. Mike is one of my fav professors! He is kinda funny. He is really understanding, could extend deadline if emailed and probably participation and attendance helps your case. There were 3 tests and a final. The final, if higher than lowest test score, can be used to replace lowest test score and I think he does this in each of his courses.
He is an ok professor but his grading policies are completely outrageous. 50% of each test grade comes from work but he only grades a few of the problems for work. It is entirely possible to only get 2 questions wrong on a 20-question test and get a 75 on the test because those were the questions graded for work.
Professor Albanese was good and gave a decent amount of work. I did email him once on something not too important and he never responded so this is why he is a 4 and not a 5. His grading can be strict and if not done exactly on how he attempts a problem, it can be marked wrong. I also did this course in a summer session so it was fast paced.
Professor Albanese brings a great sense of humor to his MAT273 class. While the exams are challenging, he's understanding and will work with you if you put in the effort. Using resources like unstuck AI alongside the textbook can really help you succeed in this class.
MAT273 is made most difficult by the tests, which count for 80% of the final grade, and will include the most challenging topics covered by homework/quizzes. Professor Albanese is a strict grader. He is accessible and helpful outside of class, but only if you take initiative. Having a deep understanding of the content is necessary to do well.
Prof. Albanese is an amazing professor; he has a good sense of humor and is very supportive of students who want to learn. His lectures are concise and to the point, yet are still reasonably paced. Just don't slack off, and don't ever, EVER, let him catch you using your phone in class.
Do NOT get caught on your phone. Tests are worth a large portion of the final grade but he drops the lowest test and replaces it with your final. Drops a bunch of quizzes and hw. Make sure you do the work exactly like how he taught you because he will dock points on tests. Overall good class kind of stressful. Would recommend taking in person.
Does not make sense when answering emails, and refuses to clarify. Homework is not well written and makes it extremely confusing on how to enter answers and wont explain how it should be. Has a short temper and syllabus isn't well written at all no due dates made clear.
Your grade is made up mostly by your tests. When it comes to grading tests, he is very strict. Half of your test grade is determined by the work you submit, and instead of providing any meaningful feedback, he gives you a 0 and writes "could not follow". I am told he is better in his in-person classes.
Grades tests extremely harsh, if your work isnt up to his standards he will mark the entire question as wrong even if its right. Takes extremely long to reply to emails and doesnt seem to care about even reading it. Questions are never clarified and refuses to round a grade by 1 point.
Mr. Albanese is kind and caring, but tests are 80% of the overall grade, and roughly 40% of each test is graded by work submitted. My ability to learn was inhibited when many questions checked were simply written off with 0's because the teacher "could not follow work." Note that this teacher sometimes gets confused by what he writes during class.
I took this course online for a short term. There's a lot of homework, but it's all manageable. Some lectures were a bit hard to understand at times, but you can always supplement with YouTube. Just make sure to solve the problems using all the detailed steps the same way he shows during the lectures. He gives good feedback and is also very caring.
He is a very caring professor who encourages students to learn math in an interesting and serious way.
The method he uses to grade tests is set up for you to go from a bad grade to an even worse grade. The actual test is worth 45% of your grade, the 55% comes from the 5 problems that he arbitrarily chooses to grade the work on. If he picks a problem you got wrong, you basically get that question wrong twice in a row.
I frequently had to go to YouTube to look something up that he skimmed over too quickly in the lectures. The online lectures can get messy, so be prepared to teach yourself a lot. That being said, he wasn't too bad and didn't try to screw me over. Also, make sure your work is perfect on tests, its half of your test grade.
Lectures do not cover any unique material not found in the textbook and are extremely difficult to follow at times; it is easier and quicker to just read the provided texts. Supplementary materials for tests are limited and are closed, meaning new questions cannot be generated, days before the test is even available. Not much positive to say.
