Anderson is a solid choice for a professor. If there are any negative comments on him it's possibly because they have no idea how to do finance. Anderson teaches well, knows what he is talking about, and the slides/lectures are great. Tests were NOT bad. If you are a good student who studies then you'll have no problem. The class isn't a hand out.

He makes tests that are harder than any study material you are given, even the study sessions with the TAs who are awesome don't seem to help. He was always willing to meet even outside of office hours and was super helpful. I think people give him a bad rep because they are not used to having to put in the work and want their hands to be held

The finance content was tough in general, but Professor Anderson did a great job thoroughly explaining + simplifying the content. Periodic quizzes (credit/no credit) to help you keep on track. 3 section exams + 1 cumulative final, but will drop lowest section exam if 90% of class completes course evaluation. Honors Val was a really tough class in terms of workload, but it wasn't too bad in terms of content. Mike can be somewhat dry, and the content can be either too sophomoric or too complicated. I actually had him for 5031 but probably one of the worst professors I have had. He is unhelpful and not understanding with legitimate questions and concerns, he offloads work to the TAs and will point you to them for everything, his class policies are unreasonable, and overall just doesn't seem to care about you. He's not on your side.

Take Fullmer instead. Screwed us up on the final. Got sick the week before the final and missed 2 chapters, which was the majority of the content on the final. Asked him if we needed to know WACC for the final, and he said no. The final exam was 75% content about WACC.

A lot of people hate him because he never really taught about actual finance. He mainly goes over how to solve the problems but not where the equations even come from. however, the equations you get on the test are very helpful and he does a good job at explaining each problem and how to solve it. would take again.

Never take Mike, study material is nothing like the actual test, the test is 10x harder than the practices he provides. He is not understanding at all pointing you to "study better" or "review the slides" when you bring questions to him. Take Fullmer 100% if you can.

The worst professor I ever had. The most arrogant, hateful and rude to students. He gets annoyed with simple questions and is a condescending prick. Too bad he hates his job/life so much that he has to take it out on students.

TERRIBLE instructor, creepy rude entitled & too prideful to be a professor. Speeds through material, refuses to explain in different ways, and is personally offended when students ask for help. His responses are belittling rather than supportive. Take 3020 with literally any other professor if you want to actually learn, and get your money's worth.

First half of the semester is good if you have some knowledge of finance. After the midterm he goes so so fast and leaves you in the dust for the final. I was genuinely so so shocked at how little he cared that we didn't know anything for the final. Like lmk why the average was a 46% on the final.

He overall doesn't explain things well. Always felt unprepared for exams. He lectures and makes people feel bad when they ask questions. Even though its nice to not have homework, only being graded on exams is horrible. Would not recommend.

mike stands in front of the lecture slides and just talks. the only components of your grade are the three midterms and final exam. homework is worth no points toward your grade. he does nto answer your questions you ask and he expects you to know how to do the questions like it is common sense.

SAVE YOURSELF!!! Worst professor maybe at the entire university. Makes concepts 100x harder than they actually are. It's impossible to recover since exams are so much of your grade and questions make 0 sense compared to other finance professors. Frustrating that even your taking the same class as your peers just taking him will kill your gpa.

I took FINAN 3020 in Fall 25' with Professor Anderson and thought he was a great professor. His slide shows and lectures are some of the best I've seen. Showing up to class is very useful for understanding the intuition and conceptual pieces of the class. I did miss some classes but it was super easy to catch up by reviewing the slides.

If you pay attention, do the study prep and the homework you should get an A in this class no problem. The curve is really generous too. Dr. Anderson always showed up ready to give 100% and gave lots of opportunities to go over concepts that anyone had questions about. If you like finance it is an enjoyable and informative class.

Mike Anderson is by the the WORST professor I have ever had. Not only does this guy have an ego but he straight up does not care about his students. On multiple occasions Mike was questioned about why our study guides did not prepare us for his tests and each time his answer basically summed up to “Too bad so sad”. DO NOT TAKE HIM

The tests are next to impossible. For example, on the second midterm, the raw average was a 51%. It took people so long take the test that he was taking exams away from people because they had run out of time. Most people did not finish or had to guess on the last 5-10 questions as time ran out. He is also frequently late for office hours.

He said to my class right before working on an example: “If you guys are panicking about all this you might as well walk out now.” This was the class before an exam, and he did not even have time to finish the example. If you want to leave his class feeling like you are not smart, then pick Mike Anderson as your teacher.

Avoid this professor at all costs. He's got an ego and seems to enjoy putting students in their place. He makes you feel stupid for asking questions and spends more time talking about how badly we were going to do on the exam than he did preparing us for it. He goes through concepts way too fast; everything I learned was on my own. Huge curve

Very test-heavy course, so don't take if you don't test well. However, the material he gives you to prepare for tests basically guarantees you a good grade if you can do it. Attendance isn't mandatory but he isn't joking when he says it becomes obvious who starts skipping and not paying attention in class. Drops an exam, so I would say it's fair.
