He is very clear on what will be on the exam. If you do the problem sets he posts online, you will easily get a good grade b/c he takes half of the Q's and puts it on the test. Don't even bother buying the text-the ppt on blackboard is good enough.
very long and boring class...don't bother getting the textbook...just follow blackboard notes and study for tests. Overall, good professor.
EAAAASY... he tells you whats on the exam ahead of time... if you're an econ major and want to learn, dont take him! You won't learn much.
good teacher, explains well, cares about students, but class very boring. Uses lousy textbook and doesn't follow chapters, so course is very difficult if you usually study from text. Must attend class to do well. Extra credit for homework assignments.
He is a great teacher, but his review sheets for midterms and finals are unclear and short. You really have to work hard and study in order to get atleast a B on the tests. He has high expectations for his students because he wants his students to fully grasp concepts.
He gets kinda angry when you ask questions, I was kinda scared. He talks and writes really quick and I had no idea what he was talking about most of the time. Basically if you memorize his study sheets you'll do fine whether you know the material or not.
Move to germany for a semester. Great Professor knows his stuff. Leaves politics out of the class. 75% of test are carbon copys of study guides. Curver
Great econ teacher. Memorize his study review test questions because a great percentage of his tests are made up of the EXACT same questions. He gets a little mad sometimes because he is an intelligent man however it is def worth it to up with if you know you will get a high grade.
He was really fair, and explained everything clearly.
2 midterms and a final...he focused primarily on the math concepts of macroeconomics, while briefing over the theories.I liked him...and I got an A...he gives out a practice exam, if you do it along with the homework you should get at least a B
his review is good, but when you get the test you want to jump out of the window. Its nothign like the review...the class is rough and requires alot of work for a non-major.
this guy is ridiculously hard. as he is going over assignments, the work is clear, doing it alone is another story. test reviews are vague, tests are hard, and if you dont want to be an economist, dont take him because he expects you to know the material. you have to memorize formulas, he is a nightmare.
This course was hard overall. There are two midterms and a final, that's it. No homework or papers, so you better do well on the exams. Exams were very hard and you will need to study a lot to do well. Look at the study guides he posts and you should be ok.
His tests are always switched up from the homework and the reviews. He gets real hype when he hands out the awful test results like he had nothing to do with it. Very Boring. Another huge dissappointment for the Temple Econ Dept.
This guy is a total JERK. He gives you homework on things you never had. The review for his tests totally dont prepare you for the tests. When you see the tests, you are completly discouraged. If there is a better professor, take him. This guy is a total jerk.
Stuck up jerk who brags about himself. Lots of self promotion in his class. Tests are uber hard, homework is a joke, and he huffs and puffs when everyone fails. Spells everythingo ut, but it's complicated to apply it to the test. At least he curves, otherwise I would have failed.
i dont know anything about economics and i ended up with a B in his class. no studying, no reading of textbook. i just went to every class and he was able to explain all the concepts clearly where i would be able to do well on the exams. good teacher but he teaches a boring subject
I really liked this guy. The first test was difficult (as there weren't multiple choice) then the next midterm and final were cake. I wouldn't recommend buying the book, just download the slides and take notes. I ended up with a B and I definitely failed the first exam. He does curve well.
I had no idea what was going on throughout the whole semester. If taking this course I suggest to go for the 3 days a week one rather than the 1 day a week one. Fair teacher, but very boring. 2 exams and 1 final so there's not much to help you if you suck at test-taking.
he's the man... he explains everything clearly, gives great examples, and lets you know exactly whats on the exams. if you're not an econ person take him because he teaches very well and asks students to ask question
very easy teacher. there are two midterms and one final. first midterm was not hard, just application of basic math. in second midterm and final, the questions were almost similar to the practice exams.
His exams are ridiculously hard. He is unwilling to work with you to help improve your grades. He thinks that he is a great teacher and a great person, but he's not! He expects you to be a proeconomist even if you've never taken an econ class before.
His exams are ridiculously hard. He is unwilling to work with you to help improve your grades. He thinks that he is a great teacher and a great person, but he's not! He expects you to be a pro-economist even if you've never taken an econ class before. I've asked him for help and he talked to my like I was retartded. If you have 2 take him GOOD LUCK
Prof Bognanno is one of the best teachers I have come across. He knows economics inside and out and will make great effort to ‘break it down’ for you. If you pay attention in class and do your homework this class is not hard at all.
His test are hard. He does treat you like an idiot if you ask questions. He wont help you when you visit him during office hours. Rely on TA's their all you got!! Gives nice curves (my class did poorly) got a C on the final and still got an A for the course!
He makes easy stuff too complicated! His exams are pretty hard and sometimes it seems like he did not explain the material. If you right everything down and then go through your notes, it will be clearer, but I really felt stupid in class. Doing problem sets helps. If you don't have to take this class, don't, it is not an easy A
Ok, so this guy reminds me of one of my bf's. Balding, big eyes, and kind of short. It seems like he's pissed off at everything and everybody, but I would definitely say that he is kind of hot. Don't take him.
This is the best lecturer I've come across in temple. He is straight to the point and direct. You don't even have to use the text book. Attendance is a must though
Good teacher. Highly recommend for upper and lower level econ classes
Attendance is taken in groups by alphabet, so you can miss like 2 classes before your name is called again, but it's really in your best interest to not miss classes. The examples he does on the board are invaluable, and he follows the powerpoints loosely, so you really shouldn't rely on them to study for tests. I used the book twice all year.
werid teacher..likesto wear tight shirts which is sometimes distracting.hard to follow. some of his examples are useful but i was pretty much on my own. review sessions helped and i am pretty sure the ta.s knew more than he does.
He was absolutely impossible to get help from. The TA's helped immensely. His classes are extremely boring but if you study the practice exams and his class examples, it's not that hard to do well.
He is an amazing teacher!! So far one of the best econ teachers.. and am an econ major! Class is mandatory and practice problems he gives are basically the test
Good econ teacher. Makes sure you understand everything, allows questions in the lecture and gives clear examples. He's very helpful in class, have not tried to contact him outside. TA's are okay. Do all his problem sets, they're easy. Study for the 2 midterms. I'd take him again, and I think he's a great teacher for one's first economic class.
His tests are hard. Didn't need the text book. My TA was really helpful. I wouldn't recommend him but the whole econ department at Temple sucks but he seems better than some.
Good teacher. Show up to class take notes, go over them and read the textbook for concepts. Tests are exactly like the practice tests, so do well on them as well as do the online homework and you will pass with a good grade
This guy is amazing. If you copy down his class notes and pay attention during lectures, you should not have a problem. He explains everything crystal clear. He makes class interesting and is probably one of the best professors at Temple.
He explains everything clearly, but goes over the same concepts over and over after everyone gets it. You have to attend the lectures or you have to be really good at reading the book and reading his mind. His tests are a lot like the practice tests though. The TA helped a lot. Study for the tests a lot and you should be okay.
I like him. He explains things very clearly. U can totally get an A with his exams as long as you take notes and study the problem set. He grades quitely fairly. He never uses textbook. I got an A in his class without even opening the textbook.
i learned more from my ta in one tutoring session then him the whole year.. however, i got a C, when i probably should of failed.
Knows what he is talking about. Show up for class and take notes and you will get a decent grade. Some TA's are good and some aren't all about luck. Just do what is asked of you and you get a decent grade. No papers.
Fast-paced, and one of the most intelligent professors on Temple's faculty. You gotta keep up to get the grade, but it's worth it.
Bognanno knows what he is talking about but doesn't seem to be able to teach it to us. I feel like im learning more from my TA. His tests are nothing like the reviews, they are more comprehension then math.
ugh.Where do I begin with this guy.His tests are impossible. The extra credit pactice tests provide no help for preparing you for the exam. Some of the TAs are great while others suck. The classes are really boring but help clarify some concepts. Advice: read the book and do practice questions rather than going to class.
He's a pretty good professor and definitely knows what he's talking about. He's not always the best at explaining things the first time, but if you can pay attention, you should be fine. I'm saying this and I had a TA who barely knows English. By the way, I only opened the textbook once. Save your $113.
very boring. and exams are very difficult, however he gives a substantial curve and plenty of extra credit. ta's help alot in this class
Horrible teacher, rambles on and on about things like Wisconsin cheese and how airlines use to serve wine in baskets. Nothing to do with econ. Practice tests and study guides are NOTHING like the midterms and final. Curves ok but not that good. Save yourself the trouble and find a different econ teacher. TA was ok though, learned a lot from him.
Dr. Bognanno is a very knowledgable professor on the subject matter but has a difficult time relaying the information to his students. The book isn't necessary for the class but I suggest getting it to read over concepts again. Tests are difficult and they account for 100% of your grade. Do problem sets and attend Friday's class and you will do ok.
By far my favorite teacher at Temple! He is very, very smart and teaches well. He is open to questions, and will go over anything you need. If you go to class you will do fine and attendance is extra credit. If you're not a good test taker I wouldn't take him, grade is only 2 midterms and final... but its all curved. Highly recommended
Knows his stuff, obviously. Good at what he does but doesn't seem to understand that some students aren't good at Econ.. I was ok but was feeling bad for other students. Too fast, too hard on the tests but has good TAs, mine was good at least.
Bognanno knows economics, but definitely has a difficult time relaying his knowledge to students. At times in lectures he does ramble. Nevertheless his tests are fair. Attendance in class and review of past exams posted on blackboard help you do well, and give you a shot at getting an A. Pretty generous curve, but overall class is fairly difficult.
Dr. B is a good teacher. You dont realize during the lectures but the tests are heavily math-oriented. If you can understand a graph and remember some equations, then you should be ok. Problem sets given online are x-credit as long as you dont miss classes. The problem sets are a tool that you NEED to use to get used to the tests you will take
Bogananno knows exactly what he is talking about, but unfortunately he is the only one. He doesn't go through any of his slides in class and his grading is heavy on exams which are math based and you do not figure that out till the first exam. He is a nice guy, but a bad teacher. Would not suggest him.
Nice guy, but it was not an easy class at all. There's only two exams and attendance so if you fail one your kinda screwed. Homework counted as extra credit, but not enough for most people. A lot of kids in the class couldn't understand the concepts and Bognanno didn't explain things well enough I think. Overall difficult class.
He gave a huge curve at the end. On my first exam I got a 74 and on my second exam I got an 87. Im not sure what I got on the final but it was definitely hard yet I still ended up with an A-. As long as your above the avg of the class, youll do fine. Hes very smart but teaches quickly so its hard to keep up esp. since its in a huge lecture hall.
Go over the old tests that he puts online. They are really your only help.
This was n overall hard class. He rambles on and on in his lectures and goes off topic alot. I understood my TA better than the actual professor. The homeworks help out alot but the exams are hard. People do badly alot so he ends up curving. Only thing I learned from lectures is that theres a spring festival in Rittenhouse every year.
Definitely not easy, but not terribly hard. The people who failed this guys class refused to try to really learn it. I had 0 knowledge of Econ going in, but managed a B+. Nice curve(29/36 was an A-. Definitely go to recitation even if you think you don't need it. Final was pretty hard. Many kids skated through this class and did fine though.
This professor needs to realize his class is huge and always packed. there are only very limited front row seats, yet he thinks we can see the stuff he writes on the marker board. Test curves are only generous because nobody is properly learning the material. Really, take a different professor. I loved macro but he made micro awful.
TERRIBLE. He knows what he's doing but he can't teach it to save his life. If you ask for help he expalins it th same way again. Class grade is based off exams so if you fail them you fail. TA's are better teachers. Old exams will help for exam. He admits the hw won't help you! THEN WHY DO WE DO IT?! He's not a bad guy just a very very bad teacher
Bognanno is knowledgeable, but needs to learn how to communicate, manage his students, and prepare his students for the exams better.
He is very nice, and his class is interesting. His exam is tough, but he will give students a big curve. therefore you do not need to worry about your grade. just listen to class and do the homework, you will get A
His exam is so hard?but he will give a big curve?Do not worry about your grade?alomost so many students will get A
His exam is so tough, but you do not worry about your grade because he will provide a big curve. A half of all students will get A.
Very very hard exams. Knows what he's talking about but has a hard time communicating clearly. Gives a huge curve for exams though. Impossible to get below B as long as you take the exams.
Big curver. This year a 30/39 was considered an A. Pay attention and lectures attend recitation. Do the online homework and you should do okay.
Disclaimer: I'm pretty bad at math and I took this class not knowing anything about economics. His exams are extremely easy if you go on Blackboard and look at past exams. The format and questions are pretty much the same.
Excellent teacher, and is extremely knowledgeable in Econ. He gives everyone massive curves to help out everyones test scores. Also, the online Econlab is so easy and it really does help out your grade. You can literally try each problem 3 times, and sometimes gives you the write answer. I would def recommend taking him for any Econ class.
Really knowledgeable about Economics, and a great guy. Material may be tough but, attend every class, and recitation session! Work ahead and you will do well in this class!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. You will regret it. Classes are extremely boring and he does a terrible job of explaining the material. You will not learn anything in this class. Find a different professor.
Professor Bognanno is awesome! I took him for microeconomics a few semesters back and currently doing research with him. I recommend!
Go to class and work a bit regularly and you'll be fine. Skip class, have weak math skills, get lost and you'll be miserable.
Algebra skills are useful. It's not that anyone thing is so hard. It's that so much dense material is covered that it adds up to a lot. Easy weekly home works - more difficult tests. Do the practice tests posted online and take notes in class. The exam topics relate to what's in the lectures, not everything in the book.
Go - work - take practice exams - get help - you'll be okay.
He is definitely someone i recommend. Fair grader, fair (but not always easy) tests. there are two midterms and a final, but quizzes every week and myeconlab homework. so it's not too hard to get a good grade. He explains everything really well and gives u practice midterm questions. totally recommend him he's on point
He does a good job of teaching the core of the material. He doesn't exactly follow the book. There's a lot of material in the course - more than in other courses. Grading is not overly hard.
Tests are hard, only 3 tests throughout the semester though. Quizzes every week, so go to the recitation. I would recommend buying the text book. His lectures are long and boring, but he is okay at teaching the course material. He seems to know what he is talking about. Doesn't take attendance.
3 tests, weekly quiz and homework. Clear lectures but the amount of material covered is a lot!
Good class -
Three exams, weekly online homework, weekly quiz -
All his slides are online and the lectures are boring and almost useless so you don't need to go, just go over the slides he posts and show up to recitation. There are two midterms and a final. Not a great professor, but he is experienced in the field and there is a curve on the tests so he's probably the best one to take for Micro.
I would definitely recommend his course. A good grade is not too hard. His explanations are clear and and practice midterms are posted online. Grading is fair. The tests are hard but the scores are curved, so it's okay. Grades are based on three tests, a final, and weekly quizzes and weekly online homework.
HUGE lectures. im talking 500 people. taking in material in class was hard as it is easy to lose focus in such a large lecture hall. attendance is only taken in recitation sections with TA's not in lectures. Online homeworks boost your grade, do them. He gives you various previous tests to study from. decent class work hard youll be fine.
Overall I liked Bognanno. The lecture was huge but it was informative and funny at times. You have to do a lot of studying on your own but as long as you put in some effort you will pass. My TA wasn't great but that's not his fault. He answers lots of questions and gives good feedback. His voice also reminded me of Owen Wilson so that was fun.
There are weekly online homework due on Friday at 8am, but they don't take very long. You have to buy the MyLab access code for this, but only buy this and no textbook because you get an online version with it. Save $$$. Class is easy as long as you pay attention and go to recitations for quiz points
He seemed really frazzled all the time, but that's probably because he just had kids. He knows the subject matter, and knows how to explain it.
Very good at explaining the material, if you pay attention in class, youll pass. Always willing to answer your questions in depth and recitation helps to clear things up as well
If u miss lecture once in a while you'll be fine Overall- very smart, and he goes on tangents and makes himself laugh a lot during the lecture, sometimes at the cost of clarity, but go to him after class and he'll be chill. Nothing spectacular but He's a safe option if u need an Econ credit
Dr. Bognanno is a very nice man, he knows what he is talking about. Tests are only on the material he discusses in class. Weekly homework assignments that help teach the material.
His class is a lecture, not really mandatory to go but you should because his notes are what will help you pass the exams. There are 3 exams and a few online quizzes. Gives out weekly homework which isn't too bad. Not too hard of a class.
This class does not require much work at all. The tests are okay. Study from the review exams he gives you from previous years, many of the questions are the same on your midterms. Recitations suck, they give you weekly quizzes that are hard. I only went to recitation lecture is pointless you have to teach yourself everything either way.
mike was a nice professor. the class is only 50 minutes and he tends to ramble a bit, HOWEVER, he knows what he is talking about. he explains the topics thoroughly. his exams are very easy if you study. he also uploads old exams with the answers for you to study. plus he curves at the end of the year. TAKE BOGNANNO.
He know what he is talking about and I liked the way he explained the topics and taught the class. The only thing I didn't like about the class is that we were required to go to recitation and take a weekly quiz, which was 10% of the grade. He posts exams from previous classes so I would recommend to review them.
Bognanno is a great guy. Super nice. Econ is a pretty difficult class (especially for me), but the class is definitely manageable. Usually have a couple homework assignments a week but theyre not too bad. He DOES NOT re-open homeworks if u miss them so make sure u stay on top of that. He posts reviews for tests that have alot of the same questions!
Not too hard of a class if you show up to lecture and take notes. The tests are not too hard and are based directly on the class notes. He definitely knows his stuff and is pretty good at communicating it through the notes. Sometimes homeworks can be posted randomly so be constantly checking myStatLab.
Lectures are pretty dull. There's honestly no point in showing up to class. Homeworks are posted by the TA's who do a terrible job at remembering to post them. Homeworks are due at 8am on Fridays and one time the TA's posted it on Wednesday so we only had like 2 days to work on it. Professor occasionally has us do pointless in-class activities.
Mike is a great teacher who knows a lot about econ. Attendance isn't mandatory but it usually helps to go to his lectures. The tests are pretty straight forward and almost always curved. Only bad thing is his lectures can get off topic sometimes- but if you don't like that don't go!
The TA's are not helpful at all, recitation reviews are veryyy confusing because his TA Have NO clue what they are saying. Homework are randomly posted to be due at 8 ams. his lectures are drawing graphs on the broad and talking. Tests are curved by average class grade. Review practice exams, do all hws, and quiz, and switch TA's if possible.
His lectures are a little all over the place and he doesnt seem to dial in too specific on any one topic, but not the worst teacher. Study his back exams and make sure you show up to recitations on Fridays for a weekly quiz. Also, large curve at end of semester.
Curved every exam, drops lowest quiz grades and homework grades. I barely passed Macro so I was nervous going into this class but then realized Bognanno was a goat
Do not take Mike unless you want to hate taking this course. He decided he would change the grading scale and not communicate with anyone resulting in major grade drops. Completely unfair and his lectures made no sense. If you want to stress and have a professor who will screw you in the end, he is your guy.
Was a very good professor up until classes went online. Grade dropped 15% overnight after the grading scale was changed last minute, and not communicated to anyone. Beware of taking him, he is not a fair professor regarding circumstances.
This class was fine til we moved to online. He didn't teach once, and let the TA's teach for him (who only held recitations to answer questions, not review). He changed the grade weight 2 weeks before the final so that exams were worth 80%. My grade dropped significantly along with the rest of the class. Micro was nearly impossible online.
This class was impossible online. He never taught and the TA's weren't helpful either. He's a really nice guy and I understand none of us were prepared for online learning but he pretty much just gave us videos to watch and was like here you go good luck on the final and changed the grade weight dramatically. If you take him in person you're fine.
He does not care about his students' grades. He goes off topic and does not know how to explain problems. He decreased the entires class's grades and promised a 12 point curve to make up for it and took the curve away. Did not teach an entire semester but still expected homework and tests to be completed. STAY AWAY. HORRIBLE.
Very rarely present
He is good at teaching Micro but isn't that helpful with preparing for exams. On the last day of class he was still teaching and honestly it doesn't make feel confident about the final. He also doesn't upload grades on Canvas so you are clueless about your grade and trust me he doesn't even know. Just study for his exams.
Mr. Bogananno is a nice person and is chill to be around, but as a professor, he is not the greatest teacher. His class is lecture-heavy, but what he talks about and shows up on the board is really hard to translate over on homework and especially the exams, so it screws you over, and you have to teach yourself.
Lectures can be all over the place, but focus on past exams and recitation quizzes. Unstuckstudy helped me prepare effectively for the final. Overall, the class is manageable with the right study strategies.
Mike was a great guy. If I had to take Econ again I'd choose him in every lifetime. If you don't go to class you'll have have a hard time on the exams. It was annoying not knowing you're grade throughout the semester. He does curve the test grades a lot if everyone in the class did bad. His overall grading system is a bit weird though.
Honestly loved him. Mike is underrated. He deserves more hype. I HATED Econ, but he made it better. You HAVE to come to class though to pass. If you follow along with his lectures and take good notes you'll do good. He makes the tests based off what we did in class so be there. The tests were also curved which helped.
Whenever homework is assigned, it is either on Pearson (secondary app) or orally announced. He teaches fine but talks way too much about irrelevant information or stories and distracts us. If you need a teacher that is "by the book" wouldnt reccomend him.
The professor talks to us like we are figurines on his shelf in his "den," rather than as students. He can go on a rant about a topic that eventually veers off into something else, other than Microeconomics. He is technologically illiterate. He can't find a way to show us our standing grade, and you'll need to contact him to see your standing.
