Mike is one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. He is clear, helpful, and full of stories. I would love to sit down and talk psychology with him for hours, simply because he is one of the most knowledgeable people I’ve ever encountered. There is never any homework, just studying for tests.

Mike is great, he has some great stories to tell very entertaining and interesting.

GREAT teacher, got me into psych. he may be a bit dull, but the material takes care of itself. Just study well for his classes, not too difficult.

Mike takes a minute or two to warm up to. He has a lot of personal stories that are interesting. And for those people who dont like mike well .... anyways.. hes awesome. ;)

Learned a ton, make sure you're good at multiple choice tests.

His personal stories are actually what's GREAT about the class. Definitely better for people with a genuine interest in psychology, not for people who just need a psych credit on their transcript.

He may seem a little unfriendly and scary, but he actually doesn't feel that way. He's a really interesting teacher! His class is very entertaining. I'm surprised that he got such bad ratings, because many people in my class now seem to love him.

I enjoyed this class and really think it should be a core requirement for all students. His stories are fun and he gives alot of information that you would think is common knowledge, but many people don't know. A bit more writing than I expected, but it isn't difficult. His speech at the end of class was great too. Gave me alot to think about.

I was slow to warm up to this guy, but yeah, i really enjoyed this class. He really knows his stuff from years of work experience in a mental health ward, so he can give you interesting examples of pretty much everything you learn about. His humor is dry, but it's there. It's an interesting class, and I would recommend this professor to anyone.

This is one of my favorite classes that I have taken BY FAR. The stories DO help and I found that he was a fair grader, very objective as opposed to subjective. I left that class with a better sense of psychology, and wanting to learn more.

I took his class in Fall 2009. I enjoyed it and was kinda surprised at the comments I read on here. Homework assignments were sometimes interesting, hard but not terrible. Had worked in the field, so had many interesting stories, which may not be true but were entertaining for the most part.

I don't understand why you guys hate him so much... I though he was hilarious! He's like a male cat-lady. All you have to do is get good grades and participate in the dicussions and he'll like you automatically. I took 2 of his classes and although he repeats alot of his stories, it was still entertaining. Just stay interested & you'll get an A.

I think many people don't like him because he doesn't spoon feed students, expects critical thinking on all subjects and does not respond to manipulation. Not bad things, surely. I suspect his methods originate from a desire to further the science of Psychology by being as strict with students as the subject demands. A solid teacher.

Best teacher I have ever had. Was completely understanding about every problem that came my way in regards to my education. I am taking his class next quarter. HIGHLY recommend this teacher.

I thought mike was a great teacher, once you get to know him he is nice. The quizzes were hard but I didn't study for them lol. still passed them. He is funnie and his stories are funnie. I'll probably take his abnormal psych class too.

He talks in monotone. Repeats himself a lot, but has great examples. Don't really need to read text just get his notes for sure. Homework is essay and he is VERY strict about how they are written. Not a bad class all in all. I do agree he has an addiction to Orange juice...

I learned so much from Prof. Brislawn. He is awesome!

Mr. Brislawn is pretty cool. He takes his job seriously. He likes to tell disturbing stories and drink OJ. He is a grammar fanatic. Not a super easy class, but I learned some really useful info. He clearly wants to teach his students how to be more successful in all areas of life, and I respect that.

Grammatical Perfectionist

He is a great teacher because he does make students understand and digest the psychology stuff, not just spoon-feeding. He is a hard grader;yet, his descriptive comments and strictness of grammar issues do matter me. The strict rules and marking are to prepare us for next level and eventually made me growth and progress. I do really appreciate him.

i almost dropped his class after reading reviews here.I am glad i did not!! He is a great professor a lot of world experience to share and you would look forward to his classes. his classes are not boring at all. you will learn a lot from his experience. his tests are fair. just submit the papers before due time and you will get extra points.

He is a great teacher. He has real world experience so you wouldn't find his classes boring like the other theory focused boring classes. With each topic he has a story to tell, that actually makes it interesting. His tests were not that difficult and i got good grades on the writing assignments notbc i'm good in writing but bc he is a fair grader.

Just finished fall quarter at Bellevue college. Loved this class. go for it! need to work on your papers way before the deadline. tests need preparation, mostly case study kind of questions.no need to memorize terms, just understand the concepts.very interesting class. i don't understand why he has bad reviews here. most of us liked his class.

Mike Brislawn does not present an easy class, but that is because he expects students to put effort into their education and that is a good thing. He will prepare you for success in future courses that are more challenging. If your education is not your top priority, then do not waste your time taking this teacher.

The assignments are tough but not if you work on it a bit at a time like you are supposed to. You have the option to work in groups for your assignments, he clarifies that you are to work together, not have each person answer one question. He can tell the difference. And you will be graded on such. Testdifficult, TAKE NOTES IN CLASS.

Brislawn is a fantastic teacher. He's well balanced and is thoroughly professional in his teaching style. I'd take this class again.

I took this class twice as I had to withdraw the first time due to hardship. I can attest to his consistency. People complaining about 'using words on assignments' don't understand at all. The words mean something different in psychology. If you use their everyday meaning, you are using them incorrectly. You lose points. Demanding but good teacher.

Mike is a great teacher and he is so passionate about teaching and mental health which makes him an even better teacher. He has some awesome, funny, crazy stories from working in mental health for so long too. If you are a good student you will get an A. If you don't show up to class, don't study, don't care about homework, you won't.

Has a very in depth knowledge of psychology and keeps the class interesting with stories of his personal experience and good facts to know about life and the mind. You absolutly must pay attention during lecture and take notes as his tests are fairly in depth and you must have a good understanding of the course to do well.

If you learn best with story based lectures Mike is your type of teacher. He has very clear grading rubrics and if you don't get a good grade in his class it's because you screwed up massively and didn't do your work. He has over 20 years of experience in a mental health institute and some of the stories he tells will curl your toes

It's a tough class but you learn a lot. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! %s don't matter so it's hard to know what your grade is on the curve. Multiple choice tests aren't too hard if you know the material but they're 2/3 your grade... READ the book and look at the study objectives. He tells you what words you can't use on hw in class. There is no final.

He's tough but fair. His real-world experience in the field is second to none, and he translate it so well. The classes I've taken have been priceless in the course earning my BA in psych. I wish I could have taken more classes from Mr. Brislawn.

I had Mike for a 2-day First Year Education class. It was a short period of time, but I really enjoyed his teaching style and found him to be very interesting. Based on what I experienced, I would absolutely take a Psych class with him. He comes across as passionate about Psych (even in FYE) and really wants you to learn.

Mike was a love or hate for most of my class when I took psych classes from him in Running Start. He is very particular about what he wants and grades tough, but if you try/care, it's worth it. His emphasis on skinner is the reason I got into the ABA field, and went for my graduate degree in behavior analysis. Don't do psych for easy A's.
