Mike is a tough teacher, but I learned a lot... probably the most I have from any teacher at Emerson
Incredibly hard, but well worth it. Do your work and you'll be fine.
Brown will work you're ass off but its worth it in the end. By far the best professor at Emerson, and the ony one who will actually teach you anything! Everyone needs a Mike Brown class
BOOOOO!!
he's not as good as everyone claims. people think he teaches cuz he gives tests and you actually get something lower than a B
mike brown = whicked cool. he's like tony deluca but he doesn't live in 1974.
Mike Brown is one of those teachers you respect. He kicks your ass, but its well worth the money you are paying
mike brown rules!
Mike Brown is the 2nd best teacher i've ever had and by FAR the best teacher i've had in college, so much so that i changed my major to keep taking classes with him. Mike Brown makes you feel like you're in a REAL college, which is not often at Emerson..
Hard, but a great teacher. Really interesting class.
mike brown is a toughie, but god is it worth it. he knows exactly what he is talking about and makes it interesting. a definite must for any emerson student.
Mike Brown is the man you will love his class and learn so much its not even funny
He's a nice guy if you ask for help, but during class, he makes everything so difficult! It's not lecturing, he just has discussions, theres not much teaching. Plus, he's very scary...
He really does know what he is talking about. Don't let his "tough" demeanor get to you, because he will reward you accordingly if you do well and actually study!
He'll kick your butt, but it'll be worth it. It's like having a professor who's a cross between Lewis Black and Toby from The West Wing teaching you about law. Just get used to being wrong. All the time.
Mike Brown acts tough, but he's not so bad. The midterm was composed of everything on the review sheet. There's no class work so just study for exams and you'll do fine!
He comes off as scary but deep down he is a huge teddy bear! Class is just discussions and you will get an A if you do the reading. STudy guides are the exact test. He is the BEST at emerson- you will learn alot. PS> Im in love with him.
SO hard, but SO worth the money/time/effort and stress. I learned so much from him and I've actually retained it! This guy is just awesome. A must if you're into politics.
He is the most talked about teacher on campus, and is known for his impossible tests. I suggest getting the tests from previous classes cause he doesn't change the questions, and make an effort to talk outside of class cause in class you'll be confused
Mike is the best teacher at this school bar none. I learn the most from him and he knows his stuff extremely well. He is a great professor and he will actually take time to get to know you if you try to get to know him. He is easily the best teacher here.
Very tough but very worth it. The hardest class and the hardest professor at Emerson, by far...but I learned a ton and and so glad I stuck it out. Visit him in his office often. I'm more proud of my B- from him than andy A I have ever gotten. He rocks.
Very good and smooth talker but not a good professor. I got an A and it was easy. He should study the Bill of Rights, though. He gets wrong all the time. Mr. Brown, the Com. Politics and law is not American Govt. Please, Do not teach the same stuff.
Mike Brown is great. He will try and intimidate you on the first day, but when you get past that, it's no problem. Go to class every time because that is where he gives you all the info for the tests. And memorization is the key to the tests. He's great.
if you are looking for an A do not take this class. The first test, i**** you not, 40 out of 60 people failed. he claims the final will still allow you to get a C, but trust me, not worth the stress, unless your a law prodigy
i've had mike brown for 3 classes so far, american government is by far the most difficult. but if you do your work and study you will do fine, he grades very fairly. he is the only professor at emerson that i have retained any knowledge from a few years after taking his course.
Yuck. I really hated this class. Yes, I have learned a lot, but 1/2 the time Brown doesn't even talk about the things pertaining to the class. It was horriable. I mean, the tests DO NOT show how much I have learned, and I don't think his grading by two tests is fair. Humph.
Worst professor at Emerson. He assumes that everyone attending is a delinquent rich white kid slipping through Emerson without any academic challenge. NEWS FLASH: I work three jobs to attend college and I only took his class because it fulfilled core requirements.
Class had no clear structure or organization. Prof jumped from topic to topic without thorough explanation. If you want to learn dont take this class. Prof is more interested in making his students squirm than thoroughly teaching the material.
My favorite Professor. If someone can't deal with Mike Brown it tells you more about the student than the professor.
Mike Brown is hardcore. He is probably one of the most intelligent and toughest professors I've ever had. His class is definitely worth taking... You will study your ass off for a B but it will be the most fulfilling B ever.
i am going to use a quote from mike brown himself: "The good thing is, you had me 1st semester frehman year. And the bad thing is, you had me 1st semester freshman year." He is a hard teacher, but if you are up for the challenge, go for it. Watch out for him if you are conservative though.
Definitely my favorite professor at Emerson. He doesn't give a lot of assignments, but he makes you think and his lectures are seriously fascinating. He is smart, opinionated, and very outspoken. If you can't handle a challenge... he doesn't want you in his class.
I was so happy I had a teacher who actually made me work and learn! Mike is awesome! His class is hard but its about time we were challenged in school. Mikes a great teacher!

Mike Brown is one of the most intelligent people I've ever met. His knowledge of the subject made this class a pleasure to attend. He is very tough, and expects a lot out of his students. But listen, for $30k+ a year YOU should be demanding half as much out of yourself. Highly recommended if you want to be pushed. If you want to slack, move on.

The class was difficult and he can sometimes be harsh if you don't hold the same opinion, but a thought-provoking class nonetheless.
Although he is hard, Mike Brown taught me a lot! Great Professor!
One of the best teachers I have had at Emerson. I now know so much more about the world and what is going on today.
I took all five of his classes. Mike is without QUESTION the best teacher working at Emerson. He is the only teacher that will actually make you learn something because he really challenges you and won't let you get away with ANYTHING. Emerson is an academ
Best teacher I had at Emerson.. would take any class that he taught... interesting, thought provoking, good guy, goo instructor.. his classes were the only ones I really learned anything in at Emerson.
Mike Brown is tough but he is the best teacher there. He really knows his subject. Work your ass off - its worth it!
I. LOVE. MIKE. BROWN. His background being in law, he asks you to think analytically. He doesn't give you the answer onthe test, he gives you the information and you have to come to the answer yourself. And yes we went off topic lots ... but that's what makes a class colorful and interesting! Anyone whou would like to THINK in class will enjoy this.
Best Teacher I have ever had in my entire life
Most amazing professor ever
I took every class MB had to offer. He's amazing! If you want to learn something and be able to apply it to the world you live in, take his class.
This man scared the**** out of me the first few weeks of class, nevertheless, I've grown to respect the man and adore his teaching. Stellar class if you can take the heat. push yourself to take the challenge...the challenge of actually having to think in a class at Emerson...Five out of five stars.
Maybe I'll like him better when I'm out of the class but right now he's driving me nuts.
Hard exams, but very interesting lectures. He is OBSESSED with the constitution- so memorize it, no matter what class you have him for.
Mike Brown for president. Please?
Mike Brown is great speaker. Sometimes he's a little too flowery and introspective at the podium, but for the most part he forces you to learn or fail. There should be more teachers at Emerson like him. He will make you study and now that I've finished the class, I know the specifics of the Civil Rights movement more than I could have imagined.
Don't be fooled by the other comments. This class is extremely difficult. If you want to keep your GPA up, do not take this class. This man loves to give out low grades.
THE BEST TEACHER AT EMERSON! If you want to learn ANYTHING at this school, take a Mike Brown class. It will be hard, but you will learn a lot.
Anyone on this post complaining @ how he was too hard simply couldn't take it. Unlike most teachers, he will treat you like a student. Heexpects them to work¬ get grades handed to them. If you think his lectures didn't prepare you for the examine-read the readings! Everything is in the book. It seems like Emersonians want to just want to glide b
Mike Brown rules the world. He not only provided me with useful legal knowledge, he also greatly improved my work ethic. If all Emerson professors were like MB, it'd be a school that pumped out genius millionaires.
Brown may seem rough, as he usually starts the semester with a "scare the students" speech, but if you do the readings, listen to lectures, and ask an intelligent question here and there, you'll get on his good side and he'll help you out however he can. Really interesting and he's probably the professor I've learned the most from so far at Emerson
Everybody! Listen up! Mike Brown is a good teacher! But don't take him! He's too hard! It's not right! I'm at Emerson! Not Harvard! That's where Mike Brown belongs! I almost failed!
best way to do this is to just list attributes: he's malicious, uses INTENSE fear to motivate, condescending, UNCLEAR, a good speaker, smart, never replied to my emails, spends entire classes just berating students and lecturing on "how to be a good student." Only class I EVER failed. I learned, but you dont need to be treated like sh** to learn.
Best history class I've had here. Mike Brown is tough and you'll earn every bit of your grade, but he kept me interested in a topic that otherwise would've put me to sleep. Extremely knowledgeable and engaging. He does a great job of conecting history to the present. Encourages students to think and respects their ideas! Well worth your money.
I had to work hard but it was worth it with a teacher this great. No wonder he has been around forever.
I had him years ago. He was alright. A little brash and not always a good listener. Dogmatic in his liberalism, but then again it's Emerson College. Sometimes wasn't good at listening to White students' perspectives on race. Not sure why, but overall respects those who pay attention and is a good man.
He's firm bordering on cruel. He's condescending, and perpetually changes the rules of engagement to stay on top. His questions are unclear but answers must be precisely worded to receive any points. His unorthodox nature made lectures interesting. The hardest "D" I've ever worked for. (And I transferred from Computer Science at RIT). DO NOT TAKE.
I may get the first F of my life in this class, but I've learned a lot, and loved every minute of it! From lectures on topic to those on life, Mike Brown will blow your mind... and isn't that what college is all about?
He grades harshly, and it seems impossible to meet his requirements. He always wants more detail, even if something's common knowledge. I'm usually a good student and I do the work but it seems like no matter how hard I try to study for his tests I will still end up with nothing better than a D. If you can avoid his classes, I would recommend it.
A lot of people complain about the grading...keep in mind that some of them haven't recieved thier grade for the semester yet. He's smart and in class grades harsh. I have known people to mentally give up and get Ds and Fs but if you keep with it I've also known a lot of people who get As and actually come out learning something.
Knows his reputation as a badass, and plays it up. His lectures are scattered. Big ego.
He's one of the few real teachers at Emerson. He'll scare you to death, but if you pay attention, ask questions, and study a little, you'll do just fine. Very low work load, usually only 2 tests, which is nice. You might get a 50, but it's like getting a 90 in any other class. He's super interesting. Take any class you can with him!

I can honestly say that he is the one teacher who has ever made me want to come to class every day. Part of it is because I am scared to death of him and part of it is because I like hearing what he has to say. He is very opinionated, but knows what he is talking about. He's probably one of the best at Emerson.
DO NOT BELIEVE THESE PEOPLE. MIKE BROWN IS THE BIGGEST EGOTISTICAL PAIN IN THE BUTT TEACHER. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A GOOD GRADE IN THIS CLASS WITHOUT SACRIFICING THE CLASSES THAT MATTER TO YOU!!!!!
I heard the story about why graduation day is his favorite no less than 3 times (not because he loves his students, because he loves himself). He also talks a lot about "the real world." Thanks Daddy. I taught myself everything I learned in that class. During lecture I would calculate the prorated refund I should get for actual time spent learning.
American Government and Politics- Very interesting class and is interesting to go to unless there was a test. His American Government and Politics class would be fantastic but the tests are ridiculously hard and are almost impossible unless you're a mind reader. If you're worried about a GPA don't take this class but it is very educational.
Prof. Brown actually admits he likes to see students freak out. He knows a ton and is a good teacher but will ruin at least the two nights before the mid-term and final. If he likes the class as a whole the tests will be slightly easier. A good class to take if you like history and want a teacher who will kick your ass.
I've read many reviews of him, but the bottom line is, if you don't appreciate a Mike Brown class, you're a coward, and at Emerson you're certainly not alone. Take the class if you have guts and want to learn. You can learn more in one class from him than in a semester with some professors
Mike brown will kick your ass and you will love it.
I had Mike Brown for Civil Rights and US History and loved both classes. You have to put in the work but you learn so much. Anyone who doesn't like him is lazy. He will change your life. Not taking his class is just wasting your tuition. If there was a Mike Brown fan club, I would be the president.
Perhaps the single hardest professor at Emerson who is also teaching a subject you likely could not give two****s about. Also probably one of the smartest guys you will ever meet. Mike Brown doesn't care what you think, but you will learn so much before semester's end. Stick with it, and you will have conquered the hardest Emerson class ever.
Cares only about what you don't know, gives no credit for what you do. If you are well read and knowledgeable about politics and government expect to be frustrated because he likes students that don’t know anything that are willing to accept his world view.
I don't understand everyone claiming Mike Brown is the hardest. I've taken four courses with him. I have learned very much. If you read the assigned reading and study for a few hours for each test you'll be fine. Plus he's a great guy - if you show effort and don't sleep through his class or make retarded comments you will get along with him fin
a very challenging class that will prob kick your ass but you wil love every second of it. if you need help go talk to him and he will like you. best class for your tuition
I was an acting major. Took a course on the First Amendment on an utter whim. I learned more in that class than any other during my time there. It is hard, it takes work, and you're going to want to take every other class he offers.
Mike Brown is the hardest teacher at Emerson, but that's also what makes him the best. I've taken three of his classes and learned more in those three than in most of my other classes.
Mike Brown is by far the best professor at emerson and one of the most intelligent people I've ever met. Put in the work and you will be rewarded. You learn so much in his classes...he's definitely not as scary as everyone makes him out to be. I definitely will be taking another one of his classes : )
An absolutely abhorrent, horrid teacher. I cannot stress this enough: regardless of your interest in this subject, do not take this class. You will regret it. And his faux-knowledge of the subject? Let's say this. During my class, he essentially had this election cycle written in stone and his disciples loved it. Problem was he was entirely wron
BEWARE. DO NOT TAKE A MIKE BROWN CLASS. He is an all around ugly man with nothing to provide for your education except a lower GPA. His class was a waste of tuition payment, and only made it harder to bring my GPA up. I took him freshman year when I didn't know any better and I've been paying for it ever since.
Amazing, amazing professor. Makes his expectations crystal clear and does everything in his power to ensure you can meet them. The rest is up to you. Brutal exams, but an incredibly rewarding class. I need to squeeze another one of his classed into my schedule this coming year.
I thought this class was wonderful. I did wonderfully in his class, thanks to a participatory and smart class and just doing what he said. Listen to what he says then just write in your blue book. Study. That's all. I thought he was such a nice man, too.
Mike Brown is a hard teacher but you come out of his class knowing a TON. Do the reading, expect his tests to be "hard," study and pay attention in class. He does teach you a ton and is very good, he's just hard. If you do the work you will do well in his class.
I've taken all of his classes. Anyone who says that he's a bad teacher just didn't put in the effort. Easily the best professor at Emerson, and one of the few that actually knows what they're talking about. If you work hard, you'll do fine!
This guy is hard but it is worth it because he is an amazing teacher. You will either love him or hate him, there is no in between.
Mike Brown is hardcore, his First Amendment class nearly killed me. Failed the first exam miserably, something I've never done before. Met with Mike about it- he convinced me not to drop the class. He supports his students when they make the effort to ask for help. Fantastic teacher, don't let slackers tell you otherwise. Got an A-, it can be done.

Don't be scared away. Your grade will be fine in the end if you do the work. Don't miss out on the best professor at Emerson!
Like most people here have said, he is a HARD teacher. Don't expect an easy class, at all. But he is always clear in what he's talking about. As long as you come to class, take notes, and study, you should be just fine.
Went into this class terrified, but it was my favorite of the semester. Even if you bomb the first test, if you improve for the other ones he'll give you a fair grade. Meet with him if you're struggling, that helps a lot. Learned a lot from him and will absolutely take another one of his classes. Definitely recommend him.
I had to take him for gov/politics and loved his class so much I took civil rights, too. He is not as hard as everyone makes him seem. Basically you need to write down everything he says and forget about anything you were told before or what you think. All he wants is for you to tell him back what he has told you. Textbook is useless.
Mike Brown is by far the most challenging professor and offered the most challenging course in my entire education career. You'll either love him or hate him, he just wants to improve you as a student, and make you work for his the grade. I strongly recommend taking one of his courses if your a student that likes to be critically challenged.
His classes are hard but his teaching is great. Very realistic and engaging. Don't enroll if you think this will be an easy A, he makes you work for it and don't even THINK about showing up late. He will ask you to leave.
I took this course over the summer and it was by far one of the best class I have every taken in Emerson College. He is a very respectable professor and you learn a bunch in his class. In fact, I have learned more in the past 6 weeks than in my two years at Emerson College. I highly recommend this class he is great and you won't be disappointed.
This class was definitely difficult when it came to the tests, but overall it was probably the best class I've ever taken. I learned more in one of Mike Brown's lectures than I learned in any of my other classes combined. Don't take if you dont want a challenge, but if you really want to learn a lot, this is the right class
Mike Brown is the best teacher I have ever had in my life. I am not exaggerating. His lectures are riveting. He has the speaking ability of a southern baptist minister and the knowledge of someone who has studied politics and law his whole life, and truly loves what he is doing. I wish Mike Brown taught every class I took.
Hardest C I ever earned, and I loved (mostly) every second of it. Mike is an amazing speaker, with just the right amount of humor and abject terror to really make you think, "Wow, this is the kind of professor they make movies about." Nearly failed, but when I finally asked for help, he came through in a MAJOR way. Overall, amazing experience.
Worst teacher I've ever had at Emerson. Omits events to craft his version of history. Talks down to students, so most rarely speak. Uses scare tactics to make you study. Tests are brutal. I was uncomfortable going to class. Never have I been this afraid of a professor. Went to see him about my grade and he was plain mean. Avoid at all costs.
Let's be totally honest here.. if you are looking for an easy A you are not going to get it. He makes you work your ass off the entire semester for the grade, but if you work hard then you ARE going to get that grade! By far the best professor I have EVER had and I want to take more of his courses just to do it!
One of the few professors I've ever had that taught toward the goal of understanding, not toward the goal of passing a few arbitrary tests. Great man, even if he can be unclear sometimes with expectation. Interesting lectures, great to talk to one-on-one. I'd take his class again in a heartbeat.
I had a really hard time with the commute. But he was so very understanding and patient with me. I thought he had a good sense of humor. His tests are hard so if your not paying attention to what he is saying or taking notes you won't do good. But I enjoyed the class none the less and I learned a lot. I would take him again.
Mike Brown is not for everyone. However, if you really want to learn something and get your moneys worth at school- you should take any of his classes. A good grade does not come easy, but if you do what you are supposed to and work hard- he will be there for you both emotionally and grade-wise. His lectures make you think and inspire learning
Brown is an awesome, smart prof, but he's tough as hell. Don't open your laptop in class and if you're 10+ minutes late, don't bother coming. Requires SUPER specific information on his exams (3 exams, though you can make up two failed exams if you pass your final, which is the saving grace of the class). Like challenge? Take him. Otherwise? Run.
I have seen elementary school children with better grammar.
One of the best, most interesting teachers I've had at Emerson. Really makes you work for it. Study for the tests waaay before.
Take this class if you want to get your money's worth. He is incredibly interesting and tough, but if you develop a good study method you will be fine. Do your readings and come to class prepared to ask questions which will help you on the tests.
It is only halfway through the semester and I am already failing the class. He is a difficult person, and is not clear at all when it comes to preparing for his exams. When you answer one of his questions incorrectly, or even when you answer it correctly, he will talk down to you like you're an idiot.
Definitely a demanding teacher, but fair grader. You can absolutely succeed in his classes if you're willing to put in the time and effort, if you fail- it's on you. Prof. Brown does not meet with students for online classes, but provides sufficient feedback on all assignments to help guide your progress
Mike is a difficult professor, no doubt, but if you do the work, you're going to be fine. Don't wait to the night before to start studying, and you need to be present. If you're looking for an easy A, this class isn't for you. But if you're intellectually curious and want a challenge, you should definitely take this class! I really enjoyed it!
I loved him, it was a tough class but he was a good lecturer. He told us not to miss class, but if we did, it was our problem not his. I really feel like I learned a lot and he worked with me when I missed a huge test because I had the flu.
Mike Brown is frightening. Hidden amongst a lot of faux inspirational BS are some really good lectures. He makes you work really hard and you DO learn a lot, but he is really condescending and makes it very difficult to participate if you don't like being humiliated in front of your classmates. The exams are HARD and your grade is based on 2 tests!
Hes a great guy, but a mean professor. I worked the hardest Ive ever worked to study for his tests and I still got low grades. He grades how he feels like grading, and it has very little to with how well you know the information and more to do with if you picked the exact right phrasing. Im a straight A student and I struggled, think twice.
Mike Brown is great. I'm passionate about law, so the course content was interesting to me. Everyone gives Mike Brown a bad rep, but he gives some great lectures and arms you with useful information for the future. If you take his advice on the 1st exam and TALK to him, he's on your side you'll see yourself improve. Homework is very light, so STUDY
Mike is an interesting guy, but he is very lecture heavy and cannot keep on one topic. You must go to class or you'll fail. Very lecture heavy! But very funny.
Ugh. I took him sophomore year cuz it's a hard class but he's an easy teacher if that makes sense. I learned a ton in gov so I took him again for the first amendment. Mistake. He has it out for me this semester.
A stuffy teacher
I took Mike Brown after reading the woes that were written here. This is one professor to not sleep on in College. He asks for Effort but rewards it when it is given. He is going to make you pull your hair out but he is going to be the first one to tell you that. He makes you think and expects well thought out discussions. He gets you to learn.
Way overrated on the campus. He is not all that up-to-date on any facts or figures from the 21st century.
I'm seeing a lot of negative or neutral reviews and I have to say, I don't understand where they're coming from. He says on the first day of class that if you don't want to work hard you should leave. Never more motivated to take a class than hearing that statement. He made me learn concepts that I still know to this day, and I adored his teaching.
Great speaker and teacher, honest, funny, smart. Difficult class but he gives fair warning. My only thing with him is that he's a bit condescending which makes participating a little nerve-racking. He is however a great lecturer. Also willing to explain further if the class is confused. Works hard to help everyone. Difficult class but educational.
Excellent class and teacher. Dont be fooled by these dinguses who didnt show up and got angry when they didnt do well.
Michael is literally the worst professor you could have. Doesn't care about the class, first day i came in he said he doesnt care about our opinion because he already knows he is right. Like who does that? Would not rec skipping the class or you will feel pretty lost. Boring lectures and no personality. Anything around a B is great for this class.
While Mike is a a tough professor, I have been enjoying his class. The biggest thing you have to know is don't state your opinion, just say what you know. He grades fairly and gives feedback that does help. Classes can get a bit dull as its very lecture oriented but it is important to take notes as it will help in the long run.
Mike is a bit intimidating at first, but as long as you show him respect and turn in your best work he's the greatest.
While he comes off as intimidating and harsh, he truly is one of the best professors I have ever had. If you are willing to put a lot of time and effort the reward is huge. SIDE NOTE: go to his office hours just for fun.
It was my favorite class, and he's a great lecturer. It's a tough class, but a good one to take!
This guy is one of the best professors at Emerson. He's funny, interesting, and tough. If you don't like hard classes, don't take his class. It was challenging but super worth it. Super smart guy. Highly recommend Communication, Politics, and Law. I know the Constitution and Supreme Court Cases like the back of my hand now.
This is my second course with Mike Brown, and let me just say this man gets better every time I take his class. He expects a lot out of you but rewards handwork.
Prof Brown is a very distinct professor with a lot to say. He really liked my class, so I didn't experience the tough grading he is known for. Very aware of his reputation but doesn't care much cause he's been around forever. Mixed bag when you come to class, but can be entertaining. Beware of the final you will need to write 3000+ words.
He claims to be super tough but he gives such good grades on all the assignments, so yes that is very good, I don't feel like I learned a single thing in his class. In addition, if you take one class you have taken all his classes. Lectures are unorganized and he is disrespectful with how he replies to students in class and outside of class.
A well seasoned and insightful professor- one must know what they're getting into. The work is easy if you find a way to make it interesting and he will certainly help you at that. Will change your grade higher by the end of the class if he feels that is what you deserve.
Professor Brown has been teaching the same course for 50 years. As someone who has taken more than one of his classes, he repeats the same exact words in all of them. The assignments are the same in every class as well. If you've taken an eighth-grade civics class, the content in his class is the same. He grades really easily though.
Awful Professor. Extremely full of himself and talks down to his students like he's trying to trick them and prove his own knowledge rather than teach them. Claims to be "very tenured" but is only an assistant professor who has been teaching the same course for 50 years. His content is repetitive and his discussion prompts terrible. Do not take!!
A fascinating character who rambles very fascinatingly, but a mediocre professor. The context is the same as a high school Civil Rights class, and his lectures are frankly incoherent.
Mike Brown is an amazing professor! He knows what he's talking about and he makes the hard materials easy. You do need to read to do well in his class but the reading amount he gives is not that much. He surely does consider himself a smart person and he might be a little annoying for some people. I'm fine with that and I found him inspirational.
Mike Brown is one of the iconic Emerson professors. He comes off a little intimidating, but he cares SO MUCH and is really there to help you learn. His lectures can be a bit rambly, but usually in a humorous way. We never stayed the full class time--he knows what he wants to say and then lets us go home. He knows his stuff, too. Great professor.
Professor Brown is truly a delight to learn from. He knows exactly what he wants to say about a subject and says it without under or over exaggeration. He is funny and, though intimidating at first, extremely kind and understanding. Don't be afraid to speak in class, and don't hesitate to ask questions!
Michael is a professor that will challenge you but in a good way, I feel like I rlly took something out of his class. He is always looking for a very specific answer when he asks a question and lectures feel a bit all over the place as someone who writes notes on paper and can't edit a whole lot. Is open to questions but again is very blunt.
lowkey may be a sorcerer, insane comedic timing
Only gives extensive feedback if you are doing something wrong. If you are doing well, you will get one or two word comments. A little scary in the classroom but the nicest person ever during office hours. 10/10 will take his other classes.
Michael is the best. His Civil Rights class starts off intensely with a lot of reading, heavy subject matter and a stern demeanor. But as the semester progressed he warms up a lot and shows you all of his favorite documentaries. His class is relatively low key and you'll learn a lot about the evolution of equality politics.
Professor Brown has a specific teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class works well. The lectures are worth attending, and tools like unstuck ai can be helpful for study prep.
There's a reason that this guy's been around for a while. He may seem like a jerk, but he is genuinely passionate about his work and cares about the lectures. Be aware that he grades based on how HE wants you to write and will turn your writing style around- in a good way. Be ready to reference SCOTUS cases a LOT. Also, he taught Jay Leno! 10/10.
Very knowledgeable, lectures can be a little long and hard to focus in, but if you're able to sit, listen, and note take, this is a great professor who is passionate about what he does.
VERY passionate, intelligent, and hilarious. his lectures are engaging and interesting, he finishes class 1 hour early EVERY time, doesn't take attendance, and has great comedic timing. has SO much experience with politics. his assignments are quite simple and scarce (around 1/week), but very writing focused. a "tough" guy but obviously cares
I love Prof Brown! He's funny and clearly very passionate about what he teaches. He's also super funny. Attendance is optional and class usually gets out early, and it's easy to get a good grade in the class simply by doing the assignments. But -- the lectures are worth it to go to! Assignments are rare but relatively easy.
Genuinely one of the best professors I've ever had at Emerson. The first meeting I had with him outside of class was when he told me to sit in the front of class, and I did. He would mess with me in a fun way, and I got so much out of that class. We would also leave pretty early, towards the end, we would leave an hour early.
Its sometimes hard to stay awake in his class, but it's relatively easy. He may seem scary, but hes a teddy bear just trying to scare you. Take notes and ask questions, or participate in class, and he will like you more. The assignments consist of essays, one every week, along with discussion posts; they are not that bad, as it's easy to get an A.
