Great class - treated like a small business environment. No Tests , no Midterms but there are 3 Book reviews and a Final Group ProjectPaper. My first class at West Valley. Be prepared to be pulled of your comfort zone. When I entered his class, everything was unexpected. He made us talk to random people outside of class & evaluate what we did. Other than that, he's an interesting teacher with important life lessons. Overall it's a great learning skill class for real business world.

This class has 3 book reading assignments which only need to be 1 page long. These are the only homework assignments but each book is a little long. He's very clear and makes our class discussions fun. There is a lot of class interaction and participation required. Burke is a great instructor and I would defiantly recommend him.

I find Mike Burke's teaching method for Business Relationship to be quite effective, also his positive attitude does seem to help the student. One of the best professors I've taken at West Valley. He is extremely charismatic and is good at bringing students out of their bubbles. You will know the name of every student in your class after a couple weeks. Just beware you have to read 3 full books, which can be overwhelming if you're a slow reader.

I took this class to boost my public speaking skills I knew I needed to work on. It's not exactly as I expected, but I definitely enjoyed it. It's not as structured and I think a few more practical exercises each day would have helped because a lot of it is common knowledge I already had but needed to put into practice. Mike really cares about his students and their success. You will get so much more than the usual textbook lectures.

Mike is a great guy, a mentor to his students. He finds time to talk to every student individually, and encourages growth and participation. Take all of his classes ^^. Don't slack off; put in honest effort, treat everyone with respect, and you will do well.

Prof. Burke is passionate about equipping us for the "real world" and will help anyone who asks. Some directions/due dates are confusing or aren't communicated clearly, but he is gracious to those who misunderstand. Subject matter very interesting, & many opportunities to discuss it.

Professor Mike believes in each student, in the philosophy of taking a shot, that the classroom is the practice field for life and that his job is to serve and support us in our future success. Mike takes a non-standard approach to teaching his classes. He not only teaches the course material, but he also teaches the skills needed to tackle the business world. His emphasis on attitude, habits, and relationships are inspirational and create a solid foundation for being a better person and being successful in life.

Professor Burke has such a different approach to his class. He has us set up as if we're a corporation and prepares you for real world situations with his teaching styles. Easy A if you participate and follow specific instructions.

I would definitely take Mike again if I ever get a chance. He is great with his lectures and provides lessons that you are going to use in your future jobs.

In this whirlwind that is COVID-19, Prof. Burke converted Bus. Comm. into an online format using Zoom. His classes are still engaging, participatory, and discussion-based. Expect assignments to be announced orally every class, (most of them) not written in syllabus or emails. I don't know his grading criteria, but it seems pass/fail oriented.

Love the lectures. Doesn't even feel like a college course. He prepares you for life. Very motivational and an excellent leader. A REAL GEM!

Professor Burke's class is very inspirational. Very knowledgeable about business matters and business relationships. Set ups the class as a Business meeting. Wants students to feel and practice being part of a Business. Provides great Gems of Living that helps students to really evaluate their goals and objectives and for their future.

From my experience in this class, you do have to read quite a few books. But the majority of your grade is based on participation in the class. He's a great teacher who's motivating and very involved with the students. Constantly giving good advice and always making himself available after class hours for anyone who needs extra help. Mr. Burke is very kind and does not teach down to you. He teaches real world situations and concepts where if used, you will definitely be on the right track in life.

Motivational lectures where you hear things like, the only one who will help you is you, reminds me of something my grandfather use to tell me as a kid. This professor has a lot of great motivational advise that is not only used in Business but also in life! Id recommend this class to anyone.

Professor Burke, is a real gem. Not one day I felt uninspired in his class. He is very knowledgeable and encourages his students to practice what he teaches us in his class. I will be taking all his classes.

Professor Burke is a great professor, who i think is an inspirational guy. The class is about human relations, and i like that in this class we are not writing a lot of papers, but we are talking, doing group projects and doing small and big group conversations. It fits the course really well.

I have thoroughly enjoyed Professor Burkes HR in Business class, he respects his students, refers to us as business clients and is very open to answer any question we have. Although we don't use the textbook, hearing and understanding Professor Burkes business experience, has been eye opening and helpful. I highly recommend taking this course.

Professor Burke gives us a daily quote to consider in our own lives and I really enjoy how it can relate to our personal lives or business. Even with COVID, I feel a sense of normalcy through meeting at a set time on Zoom. The only thing I would suggest is for there to be a separate document that entails the directions for our projects. :)

He is an amazing professor that deeply cares for his students. He gives great advice and will alway make time for you if you need help in the class. Most of the class focuses on how well you work together and how to effectively work together. Professor Burke is awesome. He is very talkative in a good way, and loves to explain what his philosophy is for his class. He involves everybody in a way that makes you want to participate because you need to in order to receive credit. He allows you to RECOMMEND!!

The first two weeks of Mr. Burke's class flew by because this lectures are really entainting and informative! Overall he is a great teacher and gives important feedback to everyone! Participation is mandatory because Mr. Burke sees it as the practice field and is a productive way to get everyone talking!

Mr. Burke started off our zoom courses by being extremely helpful and direct straight away. He told us exactly what we needed to do to succeed in the class and wanted to make sure that everyone doesn't fall behind. It's exactly what every teacher should do.

He treats his class as a "practice field". He encourage his student to talk and learn form each other. Overall hes understanding. It's a class that I look forward to going to. If you're the person that's shy and don't speak up, he will get you to open up and talk, I would recommend you take his class because he will bring you out of your shell.

Mr. Burke is very engaging and informative during his lectures. He says good morning to every student before class begins and if you are usually shy he lets you know that his class is a safe space for you to communicate your opinion. Overall a great start to the semester!

Make sure to go to class! Most of the class learning and grading is lecture based so be attentive and an active participant. Great with constructive criticism and provides a learning environment that's safe to ask questions. You have to work for this grade but a great professor to take if you want to get the most out of this course.

I appreciate Mr. Burke's dedication to making sure all students feel welcome and open to speak in his class. I also find his method of making students hold themselves accountable in their learning a real asset because we will have to do that in our careers.

Mr. Burke is a fantastic professor. He tells many funny, but useful stories that we can apply to the class. His business meeting style class is very fun.

Mr. Burke provides a safe and engaging environment for everyone to learn and grow. He uses examples that he has collected and learned from over the years that can be applied in the business world and everyday life! It is important to be present and participate to fully take advantage of what he has to say. Orientation over but so far, so good.

Mr. Burke refers to our zoom class as the "practice field" for the real business environment and life, quite frankly! I think it is great that he uses football metaphors and philosophical quotes to keep his students motivated and engaged. Be present, be engaged, and learn from him. This is why we are here, after all. So far so good.

Great teacher

I always look forward to our zoom board meetings. Mike truly wants the best for his students, and has established a safe environment for everyone to participate. Not only does he drop knowledge, he also asks us to personally apply it to our own lives. I would definitely take his class again. Mike himself is a "gem for living."

Professor Burke is amazing. Each lecture is very inspiring and interesting. This is not the typical class with lectures and consistent homework. Since he emphasizes personal growth, students are expected to at least show up to class and relay their thoughts during discussion. There is three short book reports and one project with a lot of leeway.

I enojoy the connections he makes to day-to-day life. How the things we learn in class can easily be applied to our personal and professional environments. Easy to understand and clear on expectations.

Professor Burke is one of the best instructors at WVC. He cares about his students. His methodology to teaching is unique. You feel more like an adult attending a business meeting than a student attending a class. You will get an A in the course if you do the work. Participating in class discuss is key. Once again marvelous instructor!

TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. His style of teaching is unorthodox; his class is lecture based, with 'oral tests', a few written assignments, and a relaxed class environment. Great giving constructive criticism and not putting extra pressure on students. Burke is by far the most caring, compassionate, and respected professors I have take.

I highly recommend you take a class or two from Mr. Burke! He truly cares about his clients and the lessons learned in his classes you can apply to your own life for years to come.

Mr. Burke is a great professor that will make you feel more as an equal rather than a student. His class was my favorite this semester by far. Participation is mandatory at times, however, I would recommend participating as much as possible just to make the class more fun.

There are so many life lessons to learn in this class as long as you put in the work to apply them to your life. Mr. Burke is nothing short of an incredible professor. Having taken 150cr of college work, I've met few professors that care about their students as much as Burke. He's wise and insightful - offering invaluable life lessons along the way - and goes above and beyond to engage with his students. Be ready to participate, but to also have some fun!
