He re-did the course. Still needs to redo a lot of it.
Incredible teacher
Has no people skills and seriously needs to rethink his teaching style
Boring lectures, but straight forward material. Didn't like the way he laughed... and he laughed all the time at stuff that wasn't really funny either so it got annoying...
He has a talent for making the difficult easy.
Very knowledgeable and very helpful.
What the hell was this class? This is the redone version? It seems like a lot of unplanned buffoonery. I think a trained baboon could have done a better job teaching. The "lectures" made me want to kill myself
He did his best, given his situation. The material has to be made more interesting and applicable to Ed.

Dr. Carbonaro was an incredible teacher for Intro to Ed Research a few years ago. He truly cares for his students and he puts his heart into his work... Thanks, Mike, for everything. You rock! (from D.)
great prof - kept getting lost in his dreamy eyes
Very VERY boring lectures. He needs to think of a way to jazz them up!
I wish he kept the logo robotics out of the EDIT course. He is a good guy, yet his lectures are soporific to say the least.Take a lot of anti sleeping pills with you while going to his lectures.
Lectures were at a terrible time, and were very dry and boring. The lecture notes were almost cryptic. meaning: you had to attend the boring lectures in order to make sense of them. Guest lecturers were even worse. Mike, you need to liven up your lectures
The class couldn't be much worse. The labs are extremely easy, but pay attention to the lectures if you hope to do well on the MC exams. It was at a terrible time and its highly unfortunate this course was required.
One of the worst classes I've ever had to take. An absolute joke... the lectures are so boring and the lab is super easy. Terrible terrible. Too bad it was mandatory. I dreaded going to the class, probably why I never went. At an awful time too.
class was awful, but not mike's fault as it was slapped together at last minute. Boring as hell, and we moved sooo slow, and the tests were very hard. Also, mike had a lot of trouble setting up his laptop for a computer expert, but really he is a good prof. He just rubs you the wrong way. Good guy.
The lectures made absolutely no sense and he spent more time giving examples and useless information than providing any theory. The midterm was brutal, definitely try and remember all the insignificant details. The best thing to do is go to the Lab review as it will teach you the entire course.
The course was terrible, but that was not Mike's fault. He did the best he could with a crummy course. I would say he did a very good job, trying so hard to make it interesting.
Absolutely terrible. By far the worst prof I've had in my entire life. Can't teach to save his life. And the TA was even worse!
Very boring class. I found labs to be the only time I really learned anything, and even then they were rather easy. Concepts were sandwiched in between a lot of unnecessary examples in lecture. I didn't mind the lab instructor though...he definitely clarified things for me in time for the final.
It's a good thing the TA was there! Felix rules!
I rather put hot needles in my eyes! The class was horrible. The exams were rediculous, when the question makes no sense and you ask him about and he says I havent a clue what its asking, theres a problem. PROOF READ EXAM QUESTINS, they had bad grammer and spelling errors all over. Material that wasnt supposed to be on exam was. Lab was good.
He is a very knowledgable man but sometimes he got going and the topic was way above our heads. Felix was great he kept things clear and concise. Dr. Mike was very long winded. The tests weren't that bad. The 8am lab was brutal but very easy. I found a lot of the things we covered had little relevance to what I want to teach it was more for K-7.
I tought he was really good I didn't know anything about computers before the course and still did oksy. Being a computer class he still made it pretty interesting!
Very dry class. Hard to sit thru on Tuesday/Thursdays from 5-6:30 at night. Labs were boring as well. Exams were ok but I'd NEVER want to take this class again....
Excellent class overall
Had to take this class and was worried it would be too hard but Dr Mike made it very interesting. He was respectful of students opinions, tried to encourage discussion, and had some interesting and relevant anecdotes. He did get off topic at times but his stories were still teaching us useful info about computers.

I feel bad for Mike because most of us are really disinterested in the material, and its at such a bad time. But even he said he tried to get it changed so we could all be awake. He's a super nice guy, and excited by the subject, so its sad that most of us hate this class! I learned alot of useful stuff in lab though. Exams aren't bad either.

Lectures=naptime. Watch out for stupid questions on the exams
He was a great prof. For the subject material that you have to take, he makes it interesting and there are a lot of guest lecturers. I reccommend this class for all. Easy A!!
Highly recommend to anyone to take this course during spring or summer or else you will be bogged down with those 3-4 hour labs. Not a bad course at all.
asks ridiculous questions from lectures that i would not remember for the life of me. I dont remember every word people say!
This class is a snooze fest! Really boring and the tests test things that are insane! You'd never remember the stuff they ask on the test!
Lectures are really boring, but tests ask specifics of what happened during lectures. Attend all guest speakers as what they did is tested instead of what the point of the lecture was. Content is dry, but really easy. Do the practice tests from the textbook's website.
The tests are totally ridiculous. Questions are asked that have nothing to do with anything other than your ability to remember unimportant details of the lectures. Learned some interesting things but overall the class was boring.
good teacher
it's exactly as the other comments say: the class was dreadfully dull, the tests consisted of random questions based mostly on attendance and not overall knowledge. bad sense of humor, not a great speaker. i felt like i lost brain cells going to that class.
WHAT AN AWFUL CLASS!!! Lectures were so boring you would want to hurt yourself just for a distraction. And the tests were RIDICULOUS! Who makes tests like that?! Not one useful topic or theme was covered on the tests. Instead it would ask for some small random detail such as "was this guest speakers shirt a) Red b) green c) grey".
Guest lectures were very boring. Professor seemed disintersted. Tests required alot of memorization of trivia.
Oh my goodness. Boring class. Mandatory, and boring. It's one great big commercial for educational products. And Dr. Carbonaro is off in the clouds and doesn't teach all the time.
What a waste of my life and $500 to be in this mandatory, 5pm class. Read previous complaints they are all true, but he's our only choice. Test questions ridiculous such as: "at 5:47 on the day I wore my lucky sneakers, what analogy did I use for internet". The class right after the midterm he used 7 new analogies for various things. Rubbish!
I am going to have to agree with the other users here. I don't think we ever saw Mike more than 4 times during the whole semester. The class was taught by Steven Scott instead. Class is easy but it really boring. Midterm/Final is easy if you attend all lectures and labs. One good thing about the night class, he let us leave early most of the time.
I didn't actually see Dr. Carbonaro that often, Felix taught the class instead. Sometimes the material was redundant and repetitive (LEGO robots), but the test consisted of a lot of in class material, so it's best to attend, especially the guest lectures.
Does this guy even teach? I've only seen him a couple of times. I can't believe he gets paid. When he does show up to class he is ill prepared and focuses on irrelevant things. Be prepared for the stupid questions on the tests that have nothing to do with computers - examples from class that have nothing to do with anything. Awful professor.
Dr. Carbonaro only came to the class a couple times the entire semester. He left most of the teaching to his TA. When Carbanaro taught, he droned on about useless things that had very little to do with the course. He seemed to focus more on how great he felt the research he was doing was, and didn't care about the class or students.
I only missed a couple classes, but I only ever had Dr Carbonaro teach 1 of the classes I went to. And that class was totally useless. The TA who taught the rest of the time was WAY more useful.
Worst class ever!! take the comput 1xx if you can. he just drones on about robots when he actually show us. so pointless
Carbonaro was virtually never present. Felix did a good job of teaching the class but it is obvious the class is still in the building stage. The class could be important to future teachers but the lack of smart board instruction makes it irrelevant and Carbonaro never shows up anyways.
He taught maybe 3 courses in total. The class is almost entirely taught the Felix scott. The few classes he did teach were boring and useless. He spent a lot of time going over some stats, then said they were outdated so they wouldn't be useful to us anyways.
Fun and inspiring class! Clear timeline for the assignments. It is not a stressful course and the small class size gives you the opportunity to make friends.
I loved attending Mike's lectures. He is the most encouraging professor I have ever had. We had class presentations for the two assignments and one paper review. He gave good feedback and complimented the good things about every student's presentation.
Honestly an amazing prof. Super sincere and caring towards his students. Very understanding and a little funny at times. No need to take notes or read much, as he emphasizes the important concepts you need to know to write the essays. The game tutorials and final projects were decently straightforward, remember to be creative! Overall great class
I didn't feel like the lectures were very worthwhile, but the assignments and readings were very helpful.
If this class wasnt mandatory for my degree I wouldnt have taken it. It was a waste of my time. Half the class was kids coding games and the other half couldve been googled. I actually thought about dropping out simply because this class was so painful to attend. Mike just read off the slides and talked about his own tech work.
Post Midterm Feels: This class plays you. Yall think it's easy but it ain't. Yeah, the midterm consists of mainly all the quiz questions, but then they throw that curveball about some extremely specific outcome at you. They toy with your confidence in this class. Some questions Thanos snap your brain away. *insert sad boy tears*
I like Mike: he's funny and personable. He does go on tangents sometimes, especially about histroical stuff. Good balance for his co-instructor Cathy.
I hated this class, but it's easy. Mike is an okay lecturer. This course is just horrible & should not be mandatory. I don't see how coding will apply to my career, but hopefully, I will see the benefits once I start teaching. Online quizzes+assignments (10%), 2 virtual labs (15% each), midterm (25%) and non-cumulative final (35%). No textbook
Dr. Carbonaro makes EDU 210 bearable. He is kind, helpful, humble, and caring. The readings can be quite dense, and the midterm and final can be a little tricky, but if you do all the work you'll be fine. HINT: A lot of the weekly quiz questions are recycled on the exams.
Mike was very funny and caring! He's a genuine and sweet man. His lectures were great and the personal stories helped us understand the concept better. I really enjoyed the assignments and virtual labs. However, the exams were quite hard as a lot of the questions were quite tricky
Mike was genuinely so sweet and you could tell he was very passionate about what he taught. His lectures did sometimes get off track but it wasnt unbearable. Very dense readings and exams can be a little hard but overall there are so many extra credit assignments and faily easy projects that make up for that. Great guy and pretty good class!
Lame course, Mike is pretty boring not going to lie. Exams were insane and difficult.
Great lecturer! The class is very interesting too. The course was made up of two lab assignments, weekly quizzes/bonus activities, a midterm (multiple choice), and a final (multiple choice). The exams were easy, and the grading was very fair.
This course needs a total revamp in how it's presented and graded. The lectures were incredibly dry and the way they were given often took away from the main point of the content and led off onto weird tangents that deflected from the main takeaway. Also very pushy on their idea of how EdTech should be integrated into classrooms...
The course was taught by Mike Carbonaro and Cathy Adams. Prof Carbonaro had few lectures and considering the content I would say he tried to make it engaging. There is a lot to keep up with (readings and quizzes and activities) so pace yourself.
Dr. Carbonaro teaches with Cathy Adams and overall it was okay. The lectures were recorded and after class, the slides would be posted to eClass. I found the lectures heavy and boring to where I would only focus on the slide's information instead. Overall, it wasn't a hard class but you can honestly do it by yourself and still do fine.
This was taught with Cathy and overall one of the most boring classes I have ever taken. The material is so dry and so unnecessary for a mandatory class for an Ed degree. The class is curved which I think helped everyone finish with a better grade, the final was hard for me - because of all the coding questions.
This course was taught by both Mike Carbonaro and Cathy Adams (no RMP), and it was DRY and NEARLY useless. While general theories of learning and understanding Computational Thinking are good, no English teacher will Code, and almost everybody can figure out smartboards on their own. Exams were hard+SEM'd, GLA's were bad, learn by yourself instead.
taught with cathy adams and a bunch of TAs. dry content and a ton of work for being a weekly class. mostly memorizing concepts and theories. tough coding project and a final exam with coding concepts we didnt learn. easy midterm as it had a lot of questions from the practice quizzes. i dont see how learning code helps teachers in the future
In all honesty, this professor places way too much value on his course. Instead of understanding that students are also enrolled in 3-4 additional classes,Mike feels his should always take priority. The class itself was dull and lacked useful information, and the tests were ridiculously hard.Classwork itself was tedious and incredibly time consuming
Dr. Carbonaro, as a lecturer, was sometimes difficult to sit through, especially when a great deal of his lecture was spent on discussing his research. He's a great professor, and the course was really fun, but sometimes it would help if he made his lectures more content focused.
This course was just amazing. I'm so sad it won't be offered in the future, but I wish all teachers could have had the opportunity to take it. Not only was Mike incredibly caring to all students and understanding that we have many assignments due in other classes, but the TA, Trevor, was a legend! Gonna miss this class so much :(
He and his co-professor Cathy Adams are not good professors. They ramble on for the entire lecture about anecdotes about their pets and their own teaching experience instead of teaching the course. The TAs are no better and the marking doesn't make much sense. This is my second time taking the course and my comments for an assignment are copy paste
The workload in his class is ridiculous. There is a synchronous class followed by asynchronous activities which are normally over an hour long. On top of that, there is an added assignment for participation marks along with two big assignments. For the difficulty of the class, there is way too much work assigned.
average professor in an easy class. Interesting content, but you can get by this class with minimal reading of the slides, putting bare minimum effort in FLAs, and completely ignoirng the readings. Most questions can be answered by common sense anyways. Be prepared to put in a bit of work into VLAs, but even that wasn't that much.
It was really nice to be able to get good marks on the labs and FLAs. The FLAs and Lab 2 are completion marks and are not hard to complete. The first Lab was also not hard to get a good grade on just do it slowly throughout the semester. The practice quizzes are nice to have and the mid term was fair. I found the final to be harder however.
This class was difficult. Weekly assignments, tons of readings, and speedy disorganized lectures when delivering complex information. The Midterm and Final were clearly designed to drop the class average. Mike taught alongside a few different TA's, and while the lecture's weren't terrible, the organization and outline for the term was.
Decent professor, incredibly boring though. Talks a lot but doesn't add any information on top of the slides. Lots of required readings and specific test questions. Make sure you know the coding questions as they appear a lot on tests
I found this class to be easy and I also enjoyed the activities we did! The professors and TA's were also good.
I didn't find this course too difficult. There were weekly FLA's which if you just completed them, you would get full marks. The two virtual labs were a bit time consuming but definitely doable. Make sure you understand the main ideas from the pre-readings and the coding questions from VL2 as those types of questions do show up on the final.
Tbh the class gets a lot of negative reviews but it's actually a fair/straight-forward class. True that there are a lot of readings, but it's basically the same load compared to other ED classes, nothing exceptional.
The profs and TA's of 210 were good. However, this course? Absolutely useless. None of my friends in classrooms as teachers have used *anything* from this course. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. The material is so incredibly boring and Dr. Carbonaro has a monotone voice that makes it hard to pay attention in his lectures. Useless class.
The professor himself was okay and helpful when you asked him questions. The course itself is so useless I learned absolutely nothing, the way it was formatted is horrible. So unorganized, sometimes the class was synchronous and sometimes asynchronous. The FLA's were not bad, but that last coding assignment was so unnecessary yet time consuming.
EDU210 was a good class. The content itself is not very useful, but the way it was taught was fair. The lectures were slow, so I suggest speeding them up and watching the recorded version later. The tests are not cumulative, so that makes studying easy. I crammed the night before and still got decent grades, so if you study, you will do great!
The course content could be improved for better relevance to educators, but the distribution of grades and workload was quite reasonable, especially with 20% for FLAs (participation basically). Dr. Carbonaro's lectures are fairly dry, mostly due to the content, but he is a nice guy (teaches this course with Cathy Adams and TAs).
EDU 210 exams were harder than it was supposed to be. His lectures and Cathy, TAs are okay. Some questions on the exam includes things we did not study at all. It is asynchronous and the half of it they taught and we had to learn half the content ourselves. you do need to know your stuff to pass. the coding was helpful but a waste of time for me.
This instructor and class was a disaster. The workload was extreme, the lectures confusing, and the grading brutally harsh. It often felt nearly impossible to succeed, as if no real effort was made to teach or support us. It was exhausting, discouraging, incredibly disappointing, and left me completely drained. I would never recommend it to anyone.
