Gives midterm and final;read aloud some of the questions on test day before;midterm-75 m/c questions;said only 1st 60 would count but lied. When you get back scantron it doesn't indicate which ones you got wrong. Avoid him!!!!!

He is the worst teacher for eco. He reads from the notes included in the book. I dont know whats the point of those and the 1-second slidshows. Doesnt answer questions clearly. LIED ABOUT EXAM. NO anwser sheets. AVOID THIS GUY.He will give you a bad grade

I feel like demanding my money back for this course, because he did not teach. All he did was read off slides and when asked a question, he would give a very convoluted and unclear answer, often saying "figure out for yourself". Very unhelpful.

he gave many hints to the midterm & final. if u didn't bother looking into those questions or perhaps study for the exams, then u shouldn't complain. this class wasn't an easy A, u had to work for the grade u deserved. this class wasn't so bad.

Came out with a B+, don't really know how.. So many aspects I still don't understand. although he's a great guy, he's not a very good teacher. Just read the book and don't show up, you won't lose any valuable info. Very hard class.

Terrible. Big liar. He said that the final would be easier than the mid-term and he made it purposely a lot more more difficult. I'm pretty sure we never discussed in class a third of the questions that were on the final . Do not ever take his class.

Don't listen to these people. He is one of the easiest professors out there. He doesn't take attendence but, show up because everything on his 20 MC plus two essays tests. Bring a taperecorder on review he tells you the test questions. I got an A.

Although I got an A in his class, I am still recovering from the stress and uncertainity of the exams. He does not explain, he reads off the WORD an PP documents. I would not take him again. Never.

he is a current affair teacher. does ask u to give questions every class but never give u concrete answers. give questions for midterm. he is experienced and knowlegeable but do not knw how to teach. He simply reads ppt slides goin or not goin to class does not make any difference.

His grading sometimes is not so fair for hard work students, who always attend class and read the require readings. Altough sometimes we might disagree with his opinion, His lectures are giving us a chace to "think" in class, not just try to memoriz theories for the test.

Very knowledgeble, fair, prompt, helpful and is always prepared. Class participation is 70%, Presentation is 50%, 2 test's, participation 20%, 15% per exam. Would highly recommend. :)

Whats you to call him "Mike." A smart, no-nonsense guy, former executive. A real history buff, loves "SAT words". Doesnt take to laziness or disinterest. Requires a lengthy and thorough paper, and exams are tricky. The firm-but-fair type. Personable.

unbelievbly easy, advise all to take him- if you are smart and can understand complicated ideas, the class will b a breeze. gives all mc questions although test are only 50% of final grade. no attendence but he will like you more if you go.

This is one of the best economic classes I have ever taken. He is a great professor. You will definitely gain alot of knowledge in this class. There is alot of reading but it's all interesting. He definitely knows his stuff. He's so cool. Definitely would recommend to take.

Excellent, knowledgeable professor. If you want to be a thorough economist, you'll get more knowledge about economics than just the class material...His classes are thought-provoking, challenging yet interesting. He gives the questions and multiple choice for exams, all u have to do is take good notes, take questions for exams, do them.

He is OK. He does have his favorite students and gives them extra 3 points for no reason at all (for saying yes I agree with you). So if you want to do well in his class be ready to participate a lot (don't worry u don't have to make any sense). I think he gives good grades based on participation alone.

If you want to learn about the history of Economics i recommend you take this class. Being an economics major, i know that Baruch has a handful of good econ prof. This guy is by far the smartest man in Baruch. This class should be made a requirement for every business major. You will come out more educated about eco than any class you have taken @

if you're SHY&"not like to talk in the class" even though you know STH, DON' expect get an A. I got "A"s in MID&FINAL, but my grade is A- (-_-). BUT, overall, this professor is knowledable and you gonna learn a lot. Read a TEXT book & wallsteet journal. Buy ACESSES KYE which is about $120 or so. Good luck!

He didn't have an attendence sheet so I didn't come to class that often.He takes attendence by having the students give him question cards(you could skip the class by giving him the cards at the end of class and he won't notice since the class is big).He puts all his lesson plans on blackboard and reads directly form it

Baruch Students ARE LAZY. We should be happy to have an amazing prof. like Carew. He is passionate about his work, and his teachings. His classes are are ausome. He was absolutely amazing....Well he kind of made the information harder then what it was...if you read over the notes and take down the questions you'll do good..Plus he gives lots of extra credit so make sure you do the readings so you can talk in class..I will definately take him again.

Personally he is old and can be a little border line.He has about 200 sheets of notes that is very costly when it comes to your printing budget. This is the kind of eco prof u would find at an ivy league school. He definetely follows the strictist etiquette of his profession ive ever seen.He gives 2 exams and will tell u all the questions in advance orally, so take notes and share.Study the book not!! the questions and participate in the lecture class for extra credit u wont get otherwise.

The bad part about this prof is his use to words. He teaches the class in a very professional manner using proper but hard to comprehend english. He doesn't take attendence so there no incentive to go to class. The only way is to ask as many hard questions as u can and give in the question cards. The questions he give out b4 the exams dun help.

He definitely knows what he's talking about. If you can perform superbly in his class, which is not hard to do, you will feel ready for the real world. I hated the book and liked his lectures. I actually liked going to his class; Basically, if you are really interested in learning, then you won't be disappointed. Else, some work will be required.

OK, he is a bit boring, the trick is that you try to participate, Dont just say anything try to listen then answer. Look I dont care who you are ECO is very boring and Hard who can make Macro fun anyway? Just be glad that there is no math to remember; he focuses on concept rather than math in Macro. Great guy, but he is not for everyone. Tests are VERY TRICKY. Got C+ on Midterm and still pulled an A in the class b/c I talked to him and showed that I cared. Great person outside of class, I asked for a recommendation to study abroad-I wrote it and he signed it no questions asked. Great teacher-you will learn but may wreck bottomline GPA.

Eventhough the material was hard, try to read the text book on your own, it helps a lot to understand Mike. The class was borring, but it is not professor's fault. Take him, he is very helpful if u have any ???. The tests are not hard, but tricky. Overall the rating about the profesor, not the material. Mike is great!!!

Relatively nice guy, but explanations in lectures are hard to follow closely, and it's even harder to know how much of what he says is relevant for the exams. Can be very dull sometimes, and exam questions are tricky. You'll need to work hard with the book and blackboard question sets to boost your grade.

You MUST read everything in the text book even the sections after the chapter and must know how to calc GDP & GNP

He can really ruin someone's GPA with his tests (the midterm was one of the hardest tests I had ever taken) but participation points can bring you up a bit. Seems cold at first, but slowly he gets more connected with the class. READ THE TEXTBOOK!

I loved this professor! so far, one of the most interesting classes I took at Baruch. Even though it's just begin. nacro, if you listen to him - you will learn much more than people in advanced classes. if you go to every class, you don't have to read the book and you will get an A, if you have some intellegence...

Dom't plan on going to his lectures. It is impossible to understand the topics without reading the book, so you are better off spending the time in the library. Midterm and final, both fair but some very tricky questions.Class test average was 65. If you read every page of the text carefully, you will be fine. Do the question cards to boost grade.

It was so annoying to see Mike constantly walke up and down the hall, trying to get the class involved in discussion. Tried to talk to him at his office about grades, he is ice cold. He gives you a short answer and leaves you out to dry. Seems he doesn't like to talk with his students. Grade will be determined by how well you can study on your own.

Mike relates higher level economics into a intro macro class and he uses the entire book, so you learn so much more with him. At first I hated his teaching method but I later learned to accept it. He is not hard nor is he easy. Study the book constantly on your own, you are good to go. Got a B, learning most of the material on my own time.

I went to his office to talk and he was so arrogant and disrespectful that I was questioning why he is teaching in the first place. If he were only as helpful as he is arrogant he could have been very helpful and inspiring.He has a superiority complex like no other. TERRIBLE professor. Useless to go to class, attendance isn't mandatory anyways. The textbook is hard to understand on your own at times but there's almost no other way because you won't get the help from him. There are only 2 useful classes, the one before the midterm and final where he gives you the questions. A is possible though b/c he curves.

The text book is not related with his lectures notes.The citation class with a very awful Russian instructor who has very bad, unclear English accent.The exam is very very hard.You should totally avoid this professor because he will bring your grade down. The average grade of the whole class is C or C-. Lots of them have to drop the class.

he is easy as long as you go to class and talk,express opinion or simply ask questions.if he remebers yoor name it is very good.can be a bit boring with the lecture but it gets interesting from time to time.2 exams-multiple choice+2 short essays.a research paper that counts for almost the entire grade.not bad a professor at all

He is ok. He talks about interesting things in the class, but he never covers all the chapter. But he assigns all 23 chapters from the book, so you don't have time to read the first while he is already talking about third one. But it is hard to fail this class. midterm 40%, final 40%, class participation 20%. Participate and it'll help your grade. He gives the exam questions about a week before the exams but he say the questions fast so you should team up with someone to get them. Even though he gives you the questions before hand it's still hard to find the answers.

If you really want to learn, don't take him. Se assigns us seats and never took attendance. You only have to go 4 times. The midterm, the final, and the class before each test where he gives you the questions that are going to be on the test. All you do is flip through the book and memorize all the details about the topic of each question.

You will learn a lot of great stuff. He sends out good articles about issues of current economy and if you can come to class prepared to talk about it, it's ++. Involve in the class conversations. 25% mid-term, 25% final, and 50% class participation. I have warn you he doesn't really teach per se it's more like having discussions about the issues.

his class require you to study by yourself,you dont need to go to his class, whatever he said is not in the exam, because all we can find from the book, but eco issue is complex, he does not help us to understand, only talk about it,you have to do many practice to pass the exam. NO recommend.

I dont understand why a man who obviously cant stand students decided to teach? My advice to you is stay away from this crazy class. I got an A - so its possible - but I slaved for it. I came every day to class but his lectures did not help at all for the test and though he reads the tests before he changes things and even added a question. Gluck!

If you are taking this professor , get ready to study the book very well. Attendance in his class is not mandatory, but attending recitation class is highly recommended since attendance is taken there. Go to review classes before exams, 50 questions in 5 minutes so type really fast! Got a 90 in midterm but still ended up getting a B.

He's obviously an intelligent person but that doesn't mean he should be a professor. Though I have never gotten into any altercations with him,I've overheard him speaking to students and its not good.In order to do well, you have to read the book and know it well. Make sure you participate because that counts as 20%. Got an A.

A is possible only if you can learn hard by yourself and do the practice tests. Lectures are useless because his teaching style will make you daydream and filter anything into your ears.If you want an easy pass, don't take him.

This guy does not know how to effectively teach! He doesn't explain any concepts of the subject, and just rambles on about statistics. His lectures have nothing to do with what is on the exams. Just go to the 2 classes before each exam for the questions. If this is a subject that you need explained don't take him. If you can learn on ur own he's ok

Took his grad school econ course. I'm on my second Master's, and he may have been one of the worst Professors I have had. His lectures consist of reading powerpoint slides provided by the text book. Granted he's an idiot-savant when it comes to numbers and calculations, but the man is as interesting to listen to as TV static.

Attendance is not necessary. I was actually very confused going into this class. The reviews of him was really bad but he was such a nice professor. Okay what he says is the exact antithesis of the textbook. He tells you all the questions that will be on the test the class before. PARTICIPATE he won't bite. He kids a lot.

Very knowledgeable professor who ties in his class with current events and attempts to give students an appreciation of economic history which does make things more clear. Not a class for people who want an easy pass. Students have to put some effort in also. I would recommend him for serious students.

Honestly a very smart and tough person. He reminds me of a bill o'reilly type. However, i got to the final 2 minutes late, and was locked out! so after investing a good 80 something hours of my life to this class, because of two minutes late i was forced to fail?!

If you enjoy curveballs then you will definitely enjoy this class because he throws them at you, every which way he can. He gives you the questions for exams allowing you to study or "gather" your exam answers beforehand but when you get the actual exam the questions are a variation from what he gave you originally therefore sending you for a loop

Mike is the man. I learned so much in his class about everything that is happening in the economy today. He gives the questions before the mid term and the final, but his tests are not easy. There is a huge participation grade so you should come to class at least when the flash cards are due cuz he counts them a lot! He is really funny too.

This "teacher" refuses to teach basic models, is arrogantly (suspiciously?) dismissive of math, and gets a lot of basic facts wrong. Most students in the class seem to be intimidated by his tough-guy Wall St. routine. I worked on Wall St ? this guy doesn?t know what he?s talking about. If you are at all interested in learning economics, STAY AWAY.

He has a tendency to overload the student's coursework with several required textbooks and required readings that range from a compiled book of readings, and newspaper articles. Format of exams= 20 MC and two essays. His course was almost equivalent to taking two economic courses.

extremely interesting prof. don't let his age fool you, he is very sharp and engaging. exams have nothing to do with the hw but theyre fair b/c he tells you the Qs. he cracks a lot of jokes and encourages participation but he can also be VERY curt with you. oh and if you ask a dumb question in class h WILL embarrass you.

His final exam is extremely difficult despite the fact that he gives you the questions beforehand. He phrases the answers like a puzzle and you'd swear you know the concept and what not, yet can't decide the right answer.

Mike is great! Try to participate, talk about the articles he gives out, do the index cards and you will do good. Midterm and final were hard. He gave 50 questions that were hard to find but it is all you need to study. Sometimes when he says something in class and seems useless,just copy it bcuz will appear on the test. Prof.Carew likes to go over what is on the WSJ in class. About half of the class day dream. Even if you don't listen to him at all, you can ace the exams b/c he gives you questions before the test but finding answers is not that easy though. It's an easy class over all. Just need to put some effort to find the answers the day before the exam.

I took an economics class with this prof. and can confidently say "I learnt nothing". 1 easy midterm no final, 1 presentation. His grading criteria is extremely random. People with bad midterm and presentation got A- and who did good got a B. Very egoistic guy so please try and avoid. Also never utter a word against his criteria else.. :(

Participation is key in his class. Get his business card. His lectures are very relevant, if you read the chapter first. He gives you the questions on the tests ahead of time. Some answers are easy to find, some hard. Do the index cards, read and participate.

He's a bit dry, but he's pretty funny. Kind of boring class, but he gives you every question that will be on the midterm beforehand. He always says "Everyone gets A's. You have to really screw up to get a B". If you want to raise your GPA and need microeconomics, TAKE THIS GUY

Mike leans more to the classical side of economics than say Joe Stiglitz. His positions do not interrupt the flow of information upon the student; on the contrary, it gives rise to questioning(which he embraces)and--in my case at least--research beyond graduation. Plus, I took him for 3 sections and got 3 A's and was absent 40% of the time.

He's extremely knowledgeable, but goes over a vast amount of material. His lecture is sometime boring, but sometime it's very interesting. Also do the weekly question cards! Participate in his class to try to get extra credit. His exams are easy; and you would really learn a lot from his class. No homework, no mandatory attendance, so take him.

The EASIEST Prof at Baruch by far. Guy gives out the exam question in advance. What more can you ask for? No HW, no paper/project and no attendance. But if you do go to class like I did, you actually learn a lot. Mike is knowledgeable and has real world experience.

Very interesting class for anyone interested in current events, banking, the fed and how the economy actually works. Don't underestimate his tests just because he gives out the questions. Most of the answers are in the book so get it. Some are very tricky and you won't get unless you understand the topic itself.

He is a well rounded person who has alot of experience in this field. He will give you real life and recent events that pertain to your class. VERY EASY CLASS. no work required besides showing up, participate and PRESENT. It's worth a lot. 2 exams, gives out questions class before the exam day but his answers are tricky so be careful. However, if you do extremely well on final , he drops the midterm grade.

Carew is the man, he is fun and intelligent. Very easy class, make sure you present and he reads out the questions for the exams beforehand so be sure to show up the class before the exam day. His tests are still a little tricky even though you have time to research the answers, however, this is a great class! Highly recommend!

Carew's a good prof. He gives you the exam questions before the day of the exam, but they are tricky so be careful. I didn't try too hard or do one of the case studies he assigns (out of pure laziness). If you do the case study, it would be hard not to get an A. Definitely recommended!

Attendance - not mandatory, but he remembers who comes to lectures, which are very fun. He never reads boring slides, but describes material on examples, which sticks longer in memory. Participation matters a lot! Read news, WSJ and read the book to past tests, which are very easy if you read. Got a much better understanding of Economics from him

great teacher. so easy to pass you just have to show up to show you care and he remembers that. such a nice guy too. whenever i needed help he gave it with no problems. i recommend EVERYONE take his class. easiest A you can get. attendance isn't super mandatory but its good to show up so he knows youre actually putting in effort & he appreciates it
