I dreaded this course, but Dr. C is great. I was intrigued by the subj. I dread

best teacher i've ever had, in fact i'm taking Ethics just to have him again
you can print his notes off the internet. but come to class...listen. and read the notes. and you'll do FINE. it's a good class. he makes it interesting.
Teacher acts at ease yet the coarse's tests are hard because it is opinionated.
One of my favourite teachers. Very good person. He will work hard with any student having problems in class. Everyone should take his class.
Fun class!! High marks to Connelly
Very interesting class. The guy seems to be very smart and doesn't try to persuade you one way or the other, but rather to help you make educated decisions.
The class isnt easy, if youre looking for an easy grade you wont get it. He is very helpful and makes things easier to understand, but dont confuse that with the class being easy to understand. You will need to work at it, but he helps you out
I really enjoy Mr. Connellys class. I like how instead of talking "AT" you, he talks "with" his students. He likes hearing their input just as much as He likes teaching. Oh ya plus he's WAY hot!!!!
Great class; hard tests. I hear PHIL 100 is a lot easier.
It is difficult to understand exactally what is expected on his tests. The reading dosn't seem to compliment his lectures. I quite often felt spoken down to. Other than this class I have done quite well at Longview. Perhaps I expected a more historical view of philosophy.
Awesome class!! I looked forward to it every morning- what an animated teacher! He covered some very controversial context, and still managed to do so with a very unbiased oppinion! Has a great way of helping you see both sides of the coin- GOOD FOR YOU, Prof!!
Great teacher. Makes philosophy fun and easy to think about
This class was freakin' hard. Cool teacher tho.

Great teacher, he's very animated and a lot of fun to listen to. He makes learning the material easy and memorable.
this guy opened my mind! i thought i was a thinker. he has already thought about it, and he has an answer for everything... (he just turns it into a question again) i want to take as many of his classes as i can. he is brilliant!!!
His classes are not hard; you merely have to read the selections and his notes. If you don't understand something, ask him, and he will be glad to help. He is extremely funny and makes philosophy easy to understand with the examples from current events or from his own life. He loves engaging in class discussion, esp. if you are informed.
He is sort of hokey in the beginning of the semester. You can tell he cares about what his students think of him. After you get past the hokiness you it becomes obvious that he truly enjoys his work. I also think he is always trying to improve himself which is really rare. Solid Teacher.
One of the best professors Ive had yet. He makes Philosophy fun and easy to understand. Yes, you read it right - easy to understand! Never thought that could be possible but he does it. If you have the chance, make sure to take him as your professor.

Has a passion for what he teaches. Very clear on his expectations and his lectures. Would take another of his classes. You HAVE to attend to do well. GREAT lectures! Confusing wording on test.....know your stuff!
Connelly tells the best stories!
Awesome professor!!! I highly recommend, he keeps you entertained and has a lot of passion for what it is he does.........you want him as a professor. Great stories as well.
Awww yeah! Here comes the Connelly! So interesting. Tests are unnerving. If he says something in class that you're like, "What!?" call him on it; he may be testing you. I made the fatal mistake of only reading my textbook a little, and I got a B. But the text is so hard to get through. But he's great! Take down every word-you will need them all.
ok, he grew up in the 70's, he has acid flashbacks, he doesnt like people to interupt and he gets frusterated if more than one person asks for help on the same topic, he doesnt understand that people learn differently... something he could improve on. so if you dont learn his way, it's his way or the highway!
Great teacher and great class! Discussions and topics really get you thinking about yourself and everything. Caution: Not for the super-religious; you may get highly offended. Tests are pretty hard because he will test over both the lectures and the book (which he doesn't really tell you to read).
Told awesome stories. He really gives you a great perspective on everything. Really ges you thinking.
This teacher goes off on a tangent trip a lot. The book he picked for World Philosophy is great is not accurate. Many people will say he is "cool" but that is because many people are on drugs. He would be more interesting in a coffee shop setting not as a teacher. Re: his tests, you have to dissect the words. Some mistakes on tests.
Loved the class after i got into it. Connelly was funny and entertaining. For being an 8 o clock class, this was a stretch, but it was fine. I like the class. Recommend for PHIL class!
Loved him, loved him, loved him! He's what I missed most about transferring to a new school. I took like 3 or 4 of his classes. Very open-minded! Those that say he's opinionated are too set to their own ideals and don't pay attention to the fact that he provided both arguments to any issue. GREAT MAN! I want to be like him when I grow up. : )
Great teacher, a bit eccentric, but still an awesome professor.
Dude! If you are sick of boring classes, join one of his! Plus, he actually makes you think! Like, what you believe in and how you view the world. you will become a more enlightened person, for sure!
Great teacher.. He makes class interesting.. If you just listen to what he talks about you will do great.
You will only pass this class if you go to class. He very rarely uses the text book. He makes you rethink your ideas. :-)
By far the best teacher I have ever had. Manages to make incredibly difficult information easily processed and is probably one of the most intellegent and open minded people I have encountered.
Connelly challenges his students in a fun way. He'll ask you what your opinion on a subject is, and then try to get you to think about why or if that particular mindset is consistent with the rest of your ideals. The whole class pretty much revolves around having discussions that turn out to be pretty interesting and effortless!
Egotistical, much of class is more about him than the subject.
this class is 70% tests 20% essays and 10% attendance/participation. A lot of test questions are worded confusing but information is really easy. Final exam is questions from previous tests which he gives access to prior to final. No way you'll get lower than a B if you halfway payattention. Nice guy & interesting class thogugh he gets off subject
Got a C but that was my fault for not writing the papers. The guy is extremely cool and funny, and the lecture was really fun for an 8AM class. 5 stars all the way.
Great professor! Philosophy is challenging, so missing class is a big no-no. I never thought I would like Philosophy, but thanks to Mr. C I'm taking every class he offers, and might even major/minor in Philosophy.
I had him for intro to phil. it was such a fun class he made it worth coming to. Never a boring day in class. Always will to help you if you needed help.
Information is super easy. He never uses book, don't even bother buying (seriously)! If are just looking to eaisly pass this is the right class. He does get off topic though which can sometimes be annoying. Study the night before and turn in your papers. I was always afraid to skip bc he does calculate that into your grade (lame!) Overall recommend
Connelly is possibly my favorite professor. This class is very lecture oriented, so show up to each class. The information for the course is taught effectively and in a VERY fun way! I highly recommend this course for anyone willing to commit to class attendance and paying attention.
I had him for philosophy of religion and it was a very interesting class. The class almost changed my views about god completely. He did have an impact on me. Good teacher. Keeps you awake and alert.
best teacher at longview. possibly the world! no really. he makes you think outside of your own little box and consider things you never had before. i have taken 2 classes with him and will probably take more. the best time i have ever spent in a classroom. and before tests he likes to write dont panic on the board, be sure to bring your towel.
He is really nice and fun to listen to. you will never fall asleep in this class because his stories and explainations are awesome. The test are a little hard. if you read the book they will be easy and make sure you study a lot!
He makes philosophy so intense and interesting. If you're going to take philosophy, you need to take it with Mr. Connelly.
Best teacher EVER. Makes everything so clear. Really makes you think about the world in a new way. You need to take his class. Wonderful teacher who has influced my life. Tests questions are covered in his notes. study notes from BB and you will pass for sure!
I received my AA from Longivew in the early 2000's. Mr. Connelly still sticks out as my favorite and most respected teacher of all time. He was helpful and listened. He really made you think.
This guy know his subject. He is funny! He will help you after class. His test are kinda hard but he does really want his students to pass. Take this teacher if your interested in phil.
Awesome teacher. Really knows what he teaches. Extremely helpful if you ask.
He is everything a "good" teacher should be. Connelly's classes are the classes that you look forward to go to; when enrolled in a class of his it's a complete bummer when you do miss..
Best teacher I've ever had. He makes class fun and interesting. Tells lots of jokes and stories. I actually WANT to go to his classes.
He is the best teacher i've had, EVER. I've learned more from this guy then i have from any of my other teachers. He makes going to his class fun. i have taken every class he teaches mainly because everything he has to say is so interesting. His test are only hard if you don't show up to class but seriously who would ever want to skip his class?
Mr. Connelly is perhaps the nicest teacher at Longview. His class is not "easy" in the sense that you can sleep through it and still pass. He is strict and expects real THOUGHT from students, but it is worth it by the end of the course! He has a great passion and understanding for what he teaches.
Awesome professor
He is the teacher you wish you got every time you signed up for a class. He's reasonable, nice, passionate about the subject, and offers clear expectations. If you ever get the opportunity to take one of his classes then TAKE IT!
I am not a fan of this class, it's not easy for me to understand. He is a very good teacher, it's just the material was hard for me to comprehend. Reading the book confused me, so it was good that his lectures helped clear up confusion. Study notes and book for the tests and hopefully you will do ok.
He is an awesome and fun teacher. However, I didn't get anything he ever talked about, but it was still my favorite class of the semester. You really have to be in tune with the theories and theorist in order to do well on the test.
Very good teacher! He keeps the class interesting and gives great examples. The tests are easy as long as you show up to the majority of the classes and take notes. He's very reasonable. Overall great teacher.
Awesome teacher! You can tell he really loves what he teaches & he is very knowledgable about the subject. i would highly recommend him to anyone! always keeps class entertaining with funny stories & great examples of anything you will be talking about!
He is probably one of the best teachers ever! He clearly loves what he does and is hilarious in the classroom. He has so many funny stories to share.
You may not agree with him on every subject, but he's a really excellent teacher. There will be days when he depresses you, and days when you are laughing so much you're tearing up. He uses examples that have something to do with your life.
I absolutely loved going to his class. He makes everything clear, and has stories to go along with everything. Easy A if you just show up and do your work. He's hilarious and will work with you.
Great teacher. Gives you the powerpoint he uses in class to review on BB for tests. He has interesting lectures and is very fair. Keep up on the posts on the DB because there aren't any points besides DB, tests, and attendence. If you get a chance to take one of his classes...do it.
Awesome professor. He was very clear in his presentations, had all of his PowerPoints available online for review, was often entertaining, helpful, and overall a great teacher. He clearly enjoyed teaching and WANTED to teach, which is more than I can say for some other professors.
Connelly doesn't require very much work. For World Philosophy, there were four tests, participation on Blackboard, and participation in class. It is an easy class to get a 'B' in, but it's difficult to get an 'A' because his tests are difficult to study for since the material is not covered in the lectures. Plus, the book and lectures contradict.
I had no interest in philosophy and was dreading this class. He made it really interesting and I'm glad I took it. Difficult to get an A as there are only 200 pts total; so not a whole lot of buffer room! Only outside homework was 5 papers (1-2 pages).
Very interesting class. Prof. Connelly will have you rethinking your goals, values and core beliefs (He's hilarious too). You should be open minded if you want to take his Philosophy class.
Great teacher for the younger student. Mature adults beware. Wants topic papers to be written as if life were black and white and not a zillion shades of gray like it really is. Lots of tangents, very little work so if you do not do very well on the tests can wave goodbye to an A. Fill in the blank words on tests ridiculous to figure out.
Class was always interesting and entertaining and the material was relevant to our lives. Test can be hard with true and false and fill in the blank but not impossible. Use your notes to study and you will be fine.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Sure he's lax, but he's interesting and fun. This class as a great elective.
2nd time with Mike and I love him. The class is so easy and very entertaining. I am 24 years old and find his insight on life to be humorously accurate. If you are looking for an easy A, take the class. You won't regret it! Plus, a bunch of younger adults constantly say dumb things making a$$es of themselves- worth it!
Great teacher. loves what he does and takes into account the student's lives outside of his classroom. If you have not ever taken a philosophy class, take his class, he is great!
Mr. Connelly is awesome. Definitely recommend this class for anyone who is interested in Philosophy, he is hilarious and knows his stuff. Phil of religion was very interesting.
Connelly is a funny guy. He gets off topic a lot but you learn a lot about the real world along with philosophy. Textbook readings aren't really required. Great professor but class is kind of hard because there are very little points possible. I learned a lot though and it was worth it
Great teacher. Lectures the entire time and tells hilarious stories! I would recommend him to anyone. Just do the 5 papers he assigns (1page) and study for your tests and you'll be fine. Cool guy.
Took PHIL100. Pay attention. You cant do well in this class wo being there. You will want to record his lecture. There are tests. You need to study more than just before class. I would recommend as a 2nd semester class. Freshmen may be unprepared. Read before class and his lecture will make it make sense. Might take Ethics next. Interesting.
Mr. Connelly is a fantastic professor and believe it or not, you will enjoy his lectures. If you attend every class (if possible) and study for the tests, you should do well in his class. I would highly recommend him if you like a professor with a sense of humor :-)
Papers are difficult to figure out at first, but his feedback helps you know what he's looking for. Tests are more difficult than normal. First half of class about theorists, second half--more interesting--about real-life situations. Kind of cocky and condescending, but good at presenting differing views objectively.
He's a great teacher! If you need help, you just need to meet with him or email him. To get the best grade possible, it's best to read the chapter in the book before class. He will curve test grades when necessary & will work with you to succeed. Take advantage of your resources! Tests are not directly from notes, they involve critical thinking.
He is a great teacher. He keeps class interesting and entertaining. It's a good class to have at 8am because his stories and jokes wakes you up. He seems like he actually wants you to succeed and that's nice to know.
Mr. Connelly is a great teacher! He's funny and makes the class interesting. The tests are hard. They're based on critical thinking, which most people aren't good at, so beware. He makes you write 5 papers (4 pts each). Don't bother buying the textbook, most info is covered in class.
His class is very easy. Others as well as himself will tell you his class is hard but it is if you can breath you can pass it. Haven't cracked open the book much at all and have a high A in the class. Take his intro. to phil. class if you are looking for an easy A for something you most likely already have to take.
Connelly is a hilarious professor who will keep you interested no matter what the topic is about. He often relates his previous experiences to the topic which is extremely helping in remembering the lectures.
Mr. Connelly shared lots of stories that (most of the time) relate to the topic, which helped me remember the information. Only assigned 2 papers and he encourages turing in a rough draft first (DO IT, YOU GET POINTS AND HE GIVES GREAT FEEDBACK). The tests are tough though so start studying early. Also, I didn't find the book to be helpful.
Phil 101 was pretty easy, there was 3 tests throughout the semester and then the final. The tests were a little confusing and poorly written. Some things on the tests we didn't even cover in class which was annoying. Connelly tells stories which are pretty entertaining. An A is pretty easy to get. Don't buy the book we never used it.
Hes a great teacher, very clear and energetic. Makes the whole class leave with a smile. Very respected teacher in my opinion. I would recommend Connelly over any other teach any day!
Connelly is where it's at. He is extremely intelligent and funny keeping you engaged, and soaking in knowledge. The key is to read the assigned readings in the textbook before attending class. 4 exams, and five 2 page reflection papers. Would love to take ethics next. Great professor.
Mr Connelly was an awesome teacher. He made me think and I learned a ton through his class. Don't skip class! It's hard to learn the material on your own. Tests were very difficult. Every question seemed to have two correct answers, one was simply more correct than others. Very few point in the class. You write two papers that are beyond easy.
Pretty damn good. Highly recommended
My favorite class at longview. This man opened my eyes. He showed us how to think philosphicly. The exams are hard. Papers are easy. Just wish i had the time and money to take all of his classes.
Such a funny guy. 4 tests, and 5 papers. Totally duable. Tests are easy as long as you study off the notes. I enjoyed his class
Teacher is super funny, I ended up getting a C from bombing the 1st test but after I realized literally all you need to do is listen to the lecture and notes you will pass!
Connelly is one of the greatest professors at Longview, and everyone I know who had him agrees. He makes you think for sure, the class isn't an easy A but it will open your mind up to amazing things and view points you'd never thought of. Everyday my mind gets blown in that class and the discussions are incredibly interesting. Great class.
hes a fun prof to have, he uses current world issues to make the material easier to understand. he funny to a point, but overall shows he cares about your education and super easy to talk to. the material itself isn't that hard to grasp either
You need to go to class to pass. He outlines expectations in the syllabus on the first day. You have 4 exams and you have to know the material to pass, it is not straight from the notes. His stories in class are worth going to listen to. Great professor who enjoys his job. Do not take this class if you do not like questioning your views!
Lots of papers, but they are short and opinion-based. He's a great teacher and it's a great class. But don't take it at 8AM! I slept through it like 5 times, which is why I got a C.
Connelly is the best professor I have ever had! Ive never looked forward to a 8 am class before until I took his class. Lectures are hilarious and easy to follow. Not a heavy workload either, just read the readings & study the notes. Makes all resources available on B.B. Also, only five two page papers that are opinion based. I really enjoyable!
One of the hardest classes I've ever taken. I took Ethics and it was interesting but the subject is tough, however, Mr Connelly made that class better. His lectures are funny, he's a tough grader though and his tests are 50/50. He's a good professor though and cares about his students. I would definitely recommend him. Hard class though!
I missed one day of class and he gave me 17-20 on my attendance points. I ended up finishing the class with a 69% and I emailed him asking if there was anything I could do tp get bumped to a 70% and did not get a respond back. If he would have given me one more point I would have passes with a C. One of the worst pros I've had.
I like Mr. Connelly for his teaching, in fact, I love his teaching and I truly believe he loves it too. However, I found too often that he would go off on tangents about "white privilege" or "sexism" when they had nothing to do with his lectures. If you have no other choice, he's not the worst.
Good teacher all around, solid choice. He explains things very simply and is fair on homework. I will say that if you're a philosophy buff, maybe take a professor more challenging, because this is more basic. But he is hella good and welcomes discussion.
Do yourself a favor and GO TO CLASS. I didn't believe when people said attendance is mandatory, and I was wrong. He's very open minded which makes discussions interesting. But you will have to read, and do a lot of thinking. The content is not inherently obvious. Not an easy A. Hell it wasn't even an easy C...
Supposedly, Connelly teaches philosophy but you wouldn't know it was an Ethics course if you just walked in. Connelly demonstrated an inability to answer or withstand even the most basic of questions. He also spent the majority of his time telling personal stories with no relevance to the subject. Do not take if you are interested in PHIL
I really enjoyed taking Connellys philosophy class. He had very interesting lectures and always brought humor, which was great for an 8 am. He is very strict on phones, but he's makes class enjoyable so I never really thought a second about it. He doesn't allow any extra credit, so make sure to do the assignments and study the lecture notes.
A great teacher! His lectures are never boring and very engaging. He has plenty of jokes and stories to add in. His tests are straight from the lectures, no surprises. If you put forth the effort studying and doing the 2 page papers, you will get an A. I wish i was able to take more classes with Connelly.
Professor Connelly is an amazing choice for Philosophy. His lectures make you think, and the papers he assigns are not hard at all. He is very engaging with his students, and his tests are based of the lecture. He is a funny professor and gives personal stories that connect to the lecture. The readings are not boring. Taking notes is important!
Funny professor, however, grades are mostly based on tests. His papers are very easy and based on opinion but not worth much compared to the tests. He does take attendance and he keeps track. If you have questions he is very good at answering them! very helpful professor if you choose to seek the help.
Mr. Connelly is an amazing teacher. His lecture are great because he shares personal stories along with the lectures that are most of the time hilarious. The class is not hard at all. Even though he goes through the lecture slides fast, he uploads them a week before the test so you can study. Tests are straight forward and includes a lot of hints.
This was my first class in my first semester of college. It is the only class I feel like I learned anything from. Mr. Connelly makes the material easier to understand (not easy bc its ethics) and if you listen to the lectures the tests are not hard. He will challenge your beliefs and make you view the world differently.
His class is primarily based off four tests. If you can do pretty well on them, than youll be alright.
Connelly is one of the best professors at Longview. He makes philosophy fun. The class is four tests, and a couple one page papers. Make sure to talk in class! He does not tell anyone what his political or religious beliefs are, which is very respectable. Overall, an amazing person and a great professor!
He's fine, but not the best. He's very particular about making sure no one else joins the online class. I've been kicked out of class because I had zoom open on 2 tabs by accident and so I was entered twice, so I had to watch the recorded hour-long lecture in my own time (which I don't have). Tests are open note which is nice, but can be hard-ish
So many stories that felt so pointless and fake. The stories were meant to help us understand but I ended up more lost and bored than feeling like they actually helped me with the content. Grades based on talking in class, tests, and papers. Pretty okay class but lecture HEAVY.
I personally wouldn't take him again but Connelly is an okay prof. I suggest you pay attention to everything and participate (it really matters). What really bothers me about his exams is that it seems as if there two correct answers but one is somehow more correct. Kinda annoying tbh. The two papers are fine. Good luck!
I took Professor Connelly over the Covid semester so our classes were all over zoom. He was a very nice guy and really cares about his students and what he is teaching. He was always down for a good laugh as well. Everything he lectured about was on the tests after each chapter and they were open notes. Very awesome teacher
This professor wasnt bad but if you are a republican you will realize quickly that he doesnt like republicans. He is very political about everything he talks about. Really wish he wasnt so political I wouldve paid more attention if he wasnt.
I took him on a zoom class and he was great to have online! Very understanding guy, didn't demand MLA format on his papers. His lectures were interesting enough to catch the attention of my ADHD, and he's very focused on real life experience and advice. I'd take him again, he treats students like adults and with respect.
If you are conservative I wouldn't recommend this prof. He is a good lecturer and teacher but it is very hard to pay attention when every few minutes it feels like you're told how conservatives (aka you) aren't good. Overall I would consider taking him again if I had to but if I had the option to pick someone else I would.
I wouldn't recommend him at all! I took him through zoom. He would talk all of the time about things that were NOT relevant to the course. There is no homework, ONLY 4 tests and two papers. So if you don't do the greatest on those then you are screwed. I am normally a straight A student, and this is my first C since I was in grade school.
Do not take this class if you are religious, especially Christian. You will be forced to prove the un-provable. You will be ridiculed. You will be made fun of. Do not recommend
