Hello Garver? This is the 80's, we want our mullet back.
Far from sexy.,.lol!, he farts out loud during class and during test/exams!
You need to get a new pic on the CBA webpage!

The best class that I've ever taken here at CMU!!! I learned a lot

Really funny! I was never tired while in class. Go to class or you'll be lost!
Goobs knows what he's talking about. He is a great teacher. Fly fishing rules.
having the class at 8 am is cool, but the rest of the class is cool.
Dr. G is the best professor on this campus! He needs to be tenured ASAP! Take him or your life won't be complete!
He is a very good teacher, he makes class fun. Zeke Rules!
he makes class fun and really tries to get the class involved which makes learning the info easier. Watch out for the tests though.
Makes Class fun
Garver rocks. Salmon Satlkers is awesome.
He tries to keep class fun and interesting...he has some good stories, but this guy is WAY too full of himself for me. At least he keeps us awake though. Quizes are easy-tests are a little harder.
ok teacher
energenic and loves his job. Never boring, He tries so hard to make class fun, but little lecture structure. I would take him again.
Wow,not only is he hot,but funny too. Very energetic, great stories, and Salmon Stalkers is great too. He keeps the class involoved. A lot of groupwork in class. The PBL's suck. The tests aren't too bad, he expects you to know your stuff. Best prof at CMU!
Great teacher. You will never get tired of his class. Tests are basically all off his lecture. Ask him about his purple truck!!

Great teacher, keeps things interesting
WHAT A SEXY BEAST!!!
This guy is nice to look at! class is very interesting, he is funny and its fun to be in class. I study my ass off and still get a c so its not the easiest, the pbl's are boring, and the project isnt that great, but overall great guy
Definatey not an easy A, but his lectures are interesting. He is the first teacher to acknowledge that 1/2 of the class zones out after 15 minutes on the same topic. Would recommend if you got to class and listen.
hilarious
Great Teacher!
Lectures were boring, very repetitive. Good enthusiasm but his tests have no relevance to his lectures.
Dr. Garver is the greatest teacher of all time. He is funny, smart and makes class interesting. When he has to go through very dry material, he will break it up by showing a funny video that he made with his nieces or nephews, or tell a funny store.
Works hard at keeping everyone interested in big lectures. Worth showing up to class for, but not an easy A. Enjoys talking about his purple truck and cooking for the neighbors.
Very enjoyable class, but is quite tough. PBL's are pointless and boring. He's is a very funny guy, but lectures can be repetitive. Plus, doesn't explain your grades on the project so you don't know why you get what you do. Tests are pretty tough, too.
Spare me, he is terrible
Best prof @ CMU. Very outgoing and entertaining. You will laugh, have a good time and get a good grade as long as you attend class.
Always wanted students to interact in class. If there was any point in the class that was boring he was sure to make the rest of the class enjoyable.
Very energetic, first lecture class I didn't ever fall asleep in. Tests are pretty straight forward from the notes and text, but you will have to put forth some effort and study if you want a good grade. Ask him to do the worm and about his pal Country.
If Dr. Garver ran for President, he would get my vote! The best professor I have ever had, no wonder he won the university teaching award last year, this guy's the best! A must, ask him about 1) the killer emu, 2) the worm, 3) how to catch th garter, and
Very good teacher, fun class!
If you study your notes, and pay attention in class then it is an easy A, and if you don't then you will get a C. It was the best class that I have ever had. I would take an class taught by him.
Overall, good teacher. He makes lectures fun and sometimes even exciting. Not really available for office hours though. Go to class and you'll be fine. GREAT WORM!!!!!!!!
Best professor I have ever had. Enthusiastic about teaching the delicate art that is marketing and is willing to do anything for the students. His WORM is the best worm I have seen done in a long time. Keep up the excellent work Dr. Garver!!
Awsome job as a teacher. He was the best teacher that I have had while I have been at school. Keep up the great work.
I didn't like him at all. He was very pompous and liked to talk about himself, constantly. He is far too arrogant and he even hit on some girls in class.
He is the shiznit. Not hot though, not hot.
Dr. Garver was one of the best professors I have had at CMU. I am a senior now and I get to take him for MKT 499 and I am really excited. I am screwing up my whole schedule just to take him. Trust me he is an awesome professor.
Majoring in Marketing, and this is the first time in 4 years I have had a class that was not only interesting but I learned a lot. Seriously take him. you will learn a lot and have a lot of fun!
Garver and Cook should be the only two teachers allowed to teach MKT classes at CMU......end of story. The rest should be fired and sent to Western
one of the best profs on campus. never boring. he just doesn't care about rules and is very unconventional. plays music in class, brought his dog to class, plays hilarious fishing videos. only teaches in 15 minute intervals. tests arent too hard either. take him in fall if you can-he loves halloween
keeps it interesting, it's not that hard but the projects and other stuff are not clear especially since he has them graded by his t.a.
very good, take him you'll have a blast.
You will learn so much from him in this class! The subject is SO boring, but he finds a way to make it educational and interesting. His tests can be difficult, but he is very fair in grading. Expect the unexpected in this class and be on your toes! He's AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
Makes the class extremely interesting and has tons of energy. You actually learn from this class. The quizzes and projects are pretty easy, but his exams can be a little bit harder, but he is fair on his grading.
Dr B.I.G which we call him really was the best, most ethusiastic prof i have ever had at cmu..he relates the material to everyday life and in the real world..im not a mkt major but he made me want to be..TAKE HIME if you get the chance you wont regret it..you are the man garv!
TAKE DR. GARVER! The best prof I have had since I have been at CMU. Very energetic and funny. Relates very well to students. You will look forward to going to class. Does everything possible to make class interesting and fun! DR. GARVER FOR PRESIDENT!
DR. G is amazing! You will want to come to class every day. If you do your work for him, he will bend over backwards to help you out. The busiest man alive, yet still finds time to help you out. Relates well with the class and makes it fun! TAKE HIM YOU WON'T REGRET IT!
he was very arrogant and liked to talk about himself all the time. He is a 30 something year old man but he still has a frat boy mentality.
The BEST professor I have ever had! Gives real world experience, and makes class interesting. You won't want to skip!

Not a very good prof at all.

Dr. Garver was the best professor I had at CMU. He is awesome.
just didn't like him
ONE OF THE BEST!
didn't like him
Made class fun
Seriously, I can't believe the difference in rating here. If you really belong in marketing you will love this professor. Not only is he fun but he brings it to a real world level - something I can't say for many of the other profs here. AWESOME!! Take him, honestly. Its work but as a 499 level, what do u expect, do you want to be prepared afte
Hot, Hot, Hot! Eye Candy for 499!
One of the best professors at CMU. Brings energy to class no matter what. Uses innovative teaching strategies. Funny, fun, responsive to feedback, makes you want to go to class, knows every student by name.
Amazing energy he brings to the class. You will never be bored or say to yourself, "I don't want to go to class today." Makes the subject easier and fun as well. TAKE HIM
Coach Garver rocks. He makes the class very interesting and loves his job. Class isn't mandatory but you wont want to miss just because its that much fun. The quizes are hard at first but once you understand what he is looking for they are easy. This was by far the best class i have taken.
If you like watching 30 minute videos and quiz on that video every single class period then Mike Garver is for you!He makes class interesting and he is a nice guy. He is VERY unclear on assignments and projects and also likes to change the requirements the night before it is due. Just because he's a nice guy doesn't mean he is a good teacher.
He is very passionate, but I didn't like him as much as everyone. I think he was a little full of himself, honestly. He taught the material well though. Quiz everyday and tests are tough. Projects are long and a lot of work. Prepare to work hard. Put in the time, and you'll do fine.
If you are a marketing major then you will enjoy this class. I am a 2.5 student about to graduate and always use this site to pick my teachers, Garver is sort of tough, but he is by far the best professor I have ever had. He explanis things very well and makes class fun to go to. I learned more in this MKT class then all the rest combined.
Garv is one of the best professors that you will ever have. You leave his class feeling like you can take on the world. He is a tough grader, and I think he needs to think his grade weights. If you watch all the videos and take good notes you will do good on the quizzes. I myself had a hard time with the quizzes. He's always willing to help.
I understand how everyone loves Garver because he's a cool guy but he is REALLY unprepared as a professor. Had a TA doing his grading for the majority of the semester so he didn't even see the work. Also, you have to watch 45 min videos outside of class every night. I'm all for earning your grade, but he set the class up badly. Be prepared to work
He is a cool guy but is the most unorganized professor I have ever had, which makes it very hard to learn what you are suppose to do and what you should know for tests and his daily quizzes.
One of the best teachers you will ever have in the business program if not at CMU. Yes, he is a little unorganized, but if he is overly willing to make up for that with extra credit...which as long as you show up everyday, you shouldnt miss out on. Also the 3 big projects can be time consuming however are not that hard. BEST CLASS EVER
Garv Dog is a great teacher! He really does want you to do well. I didn't fully understand mkt untill taking his class. He will teach you alot, but you have to work for it like anything else.
I never really realized how important marketing research was until I had Garver. Gaver is one of those professors you either love or hate. Regardless, he works very hard and is very enthuastic about the subject.
Very unorganized. Lacks any structure.
I don't even know where to start with Dr. Garver. He's convinced he has given the classroom "revolutionary new structure", but in reality all he's done is tried to fix something that is not broke. He's obnoxious, arrogant, has poor taste in music, and he won't stop showing the classroom his kid every 15 minutes. Don't bother with him.
Garver is the best professor I have ever had. He understands how we want to learn, and he makes it fun. Anyone who can make research exciting has to be a great teacher. You will have to work hard in his class, but you will learn a ton if you do work hard.
I felt like I was in kindergarten again. Learning was fun! I've never learned so much from 1 person in 1 semester. Coach is amazing and really understands students and how we enjoy learning. He isn't easy, but if you go the extra mile for him, he will make it count for you. Every teacher should be following in his example!
Mike Garver is a Wellsgate Scholar!
I understand how everyone loves Garver because he's a cool guy but he is REALLY unprepared as a professor. He also arrogant, obnoxious, and talks about his daughter and dog 90% of class. Everything about him made me sick
Best marketing professor -- hands down. He encourages creativity and thinking outside the box. The material is TOUGH but this was a class I wanted to do well in. Yes, he talks about his daughter. Yes, he talks about his dog. He has passion. CHOOSE TEAMS WISELY! They ultimately determine your success in the course. Coach Garver is quality.
Coach Garver is the best professor I have ever taken at CMU. He is a wild and crazy guy (he's fun), and a great teacher. You actually learn a ton in his class, not textbook stuff, but real world experience. You are going to work hard in his class, but it is worth it. I have never met anyone as passionate about everything as this guy.
Garver is one of the most caring and inspiring professors I have ever had. You will learn a ton in his class, real world stuff that is good to know because he has a ton of experience. I worked really hard in his class, but it was rewarding and fun. BEST Professor I have ever had.
Not an easy A, but he isn't boring and he will help you
Best professor I have ever had! Most energy and passion I have ever seen for teaching and market research.
Coach Garver is the best professor I've ever had. His teaching technique is very "new age" and it works! Be ready to work hard and have fun!
I am now and alumni of cmu and looking back i have realized that you will learn more from this man about not only market reasearch, but life in general. it is not a very hard class but not easy, either. if you dont take him you are an idiot
MKT450 was the best class I have ever taken. I just finished the class, and without a doubt, it was the best experience of my college career. I worked really hard and it paid off, I feel that I learned a ton from this guy. The class is intense and very competitive in nature, and he pushed me well beyond my comfort zone, and I loved it.
Garver Garver.. ha, guy is pretty cool, but his class is a lot different. Most likely wont get an A and the class in general is just TO MUCH work. Also, watch podcasts outside of class and quized on them, not fun.
Garver is kinda a cool guy, but his class is A LOT different and way TO MUCH work.
Get ready for a ridiculous amount of work!! If you thought the core was bad, you are in for a treat. Garver starts off as a cool guy and the first few days you think the class is going to be fun. Big mistake. He is incredibly vague on what he wants and assigns projects that require your group to meet all the time to finish. Hated this class!!
Class is a lot of work, but it is worth it if you manage your time correctly. All these people whining about it being too much are probably not great students in the first place. He makes it fun and makes class time enjoyable. He also really knows how to make concepts memorable. Definitely recommend!
WORST CLASS EVER!! If you want to listen to an arrogant jerk talk about only him and his family and want to watch lectures online OUTSIDE of class, then take this class. Very confusing and unclear. Have to meet with team outside of class for endless hours. Assumes everyone can learn from some 10 minute youtube video...but THEY CANT!!!!!
WOW... ya don't kid yourself, Garvers class is extremely time consuming and difficult. He comes off as a shady person also. Listen to all of us and DO NOT take his class if you only want an average grade.
Worst class! Way more work than the CORE is directly on point for this class. Dont recommend
Coach Garver was easily one of the top professors that I ever had at CMU. His class is very demanding and requires not only watching a lot of podcasts out of class but a lot of group work as well. He inspires creativity and genuinely cares about his students. If you have the opportunity to take his class, DO IT!
He's the best teacher at CMU. He makes you work for everything but its worth it in the end. He made the work actually have a purpose so it didn't feel like I was wasting my time.
Get ready for group projects. Although he did make the class a little easier (or less work) than past semesters, it still is a pretty tough class. You watch podcasts before class each and every day and take a quiz on them. In-class, 98% of the time you will be working with your group doing "clicker-competitions" which are pretty fun.
Dr. Garver is a great teacher for the subject of market research. He has a different style of learning than most teachers, and if you do not put the work in you will not get a good grade. Watch the podcasts, take notes on them, and apply yourself to the projects and competitions and you will learn and do well. Not a blow off class.
Garver will push you, but it is completely worth it. If you don't do well in his class, it's a big sign that you are lazy and unfocused. I was an average student that became great because of him.
Garver was one of the most inspirational professors I have ever had. I learn so much about the subject. He expects a great deal from the students, but as long as you put forth the effort, you will do well. Plan on spending a good deal of time and effort in this class if you want a A. Study hard for exams, listen to every word he says!!
Excellent in terms of making you learn. Probably the best pure teacher I've had at CMU. That being said, he expects you to suck up to him. This class was kind of like a competition to see who could stroke his ego the most. He also assigns a lot of homework that you doesn't count towards your final grade but are still mandatory.
Great professor! Watch the podcasts, and go to class prepared to take a quiz everyday. Make sure you get a good group and be as creative as you can. The more creative you are the more he likes your group. Talk to him after class/go to his office and get on his good side.
Textbook is less than $2. Watch videos that he creates online before every class. Top quiz scorers, exam scorers, and overall teams don't have to take the final (about 15 people total). You learn a lot but work hard for your projects. Don't be lazy and you will get an A! Great professor and very inspirational. Lazy people hate him. EC in syllabus!
Garver is over enthusiastic to the point of being lame at times, the class is like a semester long contest to see who can suck up to him the most (those groups get A's & dont take the final) & the exams are very difficult, however he DOES genuinely care about his students & you do learn a lot, overall Coach Garver is a good guy 7.75/10 would reccom
This was one of the worst professors I have ever had. Does not care about students, cancelled class for two weeks to go on a hunting trip. If you email him and ask for help good luck cause he doesn't help you. Does not teach you anything. Worst class I have ever payed for. I learned nothing
Get ready to meet a guy that you never think could be your professor. This guy loves Market Research... and himself. The whole class is basically a competition to get out of the final. You watch his podcast lectures outside of class and then take a quiz and have a team competition every class you meet. Get ready to work your tail off for an A
Best professor at Central Michigan University.
Garver's class is a tough class because it consists of multiple group project competitions. He is very passionate about market research and will help you if you need it. This was honestly the best class I have taken and has inspired me to go into market research! MAKE sure you have a great group or you will be sorry. He likes above & beyond!
Coach Garver is an excellent professor, but his class is very challenging. He requires a lot of his students outside of class; one class per week is a hybrid class where you put together competition presentations. Get familiar with Canva software early on and this class will be a breeze. He is also just a text or phone call away.
If you love flipped classes this one for you! you'll spend more time learning how to make graphs than actually learning market research. He completely biases grading, so make sure you're on his good side! He's a cool guy. Not meant to be a professor.
Not a good choice to take if youre not willing to kiss his ass to be a favorite. The whole class is about making graphs and PowerPoints, you will learn nothing about market research hell only tell you everything you know now is wrong. If youre not a favorite of his good luck getting a good grade because putting in the work is not enough.
He's one of the best professors, teachers, or "coaches" I have ever had. you can learn a lot from him and his teaching style is like no other. BEST teacher and most I have ever learned. The best part is it is is market research and there is little to none math in it, you'll enjoy.
Terrible! The worst teach to take for a class that requires so much. He doesn't respond back to emails ever. He doesn't put most of the assignments in the grade book so you don't know what your grade is. He doesn't have office hours therefore he is not accessible outside of class. You have 12 group projects and some he throws at you last minute.
He is the best professor I have ever had! Students who say he plays favorite are mistaken. He loves students who work hard and bring it every day. So with that logic, yes he loves the students who always do well! He is pretty full of himself but tbh if I experienced his level of success, I would too. He is human. He cares about his students
Best professor I have ever had. You actually learn skills you will use in real life. You have to work for your grade, but it's worth it. Most important/influential class I have ever taken. He talks to you as if you're a professional, not just a student. Be sure to get a good group in the beginning, it helps because you will do EVERYTHING with them
Worst professor I have ever had. The class is based solely around his opinion and if you aren't one of the top students, expect to have to work very hard for your grade. You make presentations but learn nothing about marketing research. His exams are tough and he gives you zero resources to study. There is no lecture, just videos that he sends you.
Man this guy was awful. Id tell you to take another prof, but this guys got a monopoly on the class and theres no other options. Hes somehow convinced the powers that be that skipping half of your own classes and sending YouTube links to your students instead of lecturing is some new wave form of teaching. Idk how hes still employed.
Coach Garver was easily one of my favorite professors within my four years at CMU. His class is hard and it involves lots of group meeting. Get a great group and the class will be much better. Best groups get out of the final. Work hard and get heavily rewarded!
His class makes you work than just about any other marketing class, but he really cares about his students. When he sees someones struggling he really wants to help. His teaching method isn't the best, but his energy and effort makes up for it. He's a tough grader, but if you meet with him, and show that you care, he will prep you to do better
Prepare to teach yourself the material because he barely lectures. He expects you to watch his YouTube videos on your own time outside of class before every class. Then, you get quizzed on those videos in class without him ever lecturing on the material. Great guy, just shouldnt be a teacher
Garver is intense and a tough grader, but you will learn a lot in his class. Pay attention, listen to the lectures and ask for help. He is willing to help you and is pretty accessible to students.
I mean he's your only choice so .... You will be sick of it and ready to be done with the class by the end. Good luck. Soar with the eagles.
Coach Garver cares a lot about his content and students. He genuinely wants you to get the most learning possible out of his class. If you give your all, he will reward you for it, and he is always willing to help if you ask. Its definitely a lot of work, and you can feel a bit defeated (especially at the start), but in the end, its worth it.
Coach Garver is amazing, he is simply one of the most dedicated professors I've ever had at CMU. He is a fair grader and literally tells you where improvements can be made. His class structure is unique but it really helps reinforce the subject if you put even a tiny bit of effort into reviewing the material even once.
Coach Garver was one of my favorite professors at CMU. You will watch his lectures from his youtube playlists that are very well made and professional. Class is mostly competitions and reviews of the material and assignments. He expects high-quality work from students but will coach you to become a great graphic and PowerPoint creator.
Best professor I've ever had! Garver actually knows what he's talking about and is passionate about it. You won't have boring lectures, he ensures that. He has a flipped classroom, which I wasn't a fan of before, but it's really helpful for his class since he's the one teaching, not some random youtube video your professor found to teach for them.
Easily one of the worst professors I've had at CMU. The work and exams are relatively easy, but rather than teach in class Garver talks about his daughter's softball and has us watch youtube videos about motivation every class period. The homework directions are extremely vague and he grades mostly on the way the assignment looks, not on content.
His courses are poorly organized and he reuses content from other classes in his lectures. He is a tough grader while his rubric is very vague. He doesn't do a good job of explaining objectives or deliverables for his assignments.
He is so obsessed with students learning content and not aware that everyone hates him. In hopes of trying to increase participation he humiliates students in front of class and blatantly disrespects some students while shows obvious favoritism to other students. If you are a quiet student beware. He will not be nice to you!
Poorly organized class, vague rubrics. However, Unstuckstudy and other study tools helped me prepare effectively. Overall, a challenging but manageable course.
Coach G is a great professor! He supported the team I had for all projects and assignments. Feedback was always great too. Participation is key for success in this class. Grading can be tough if you do not follow the feedback he gives as many assignments are repetitive or based off each other.
Coach Garver is amazing. Tests are on browser lockdown and video recorded. 2 projects and cumulative final that is open note and open book. 4 discussion boards. One of my favorite courses
Eleven years after I was forced to take this guy's class, and I'm blown away that that's still his line of work. No wonder CMU and the College of Business are struggling. "We Do" means professors sit around and assign group work in class rather than teach.
He's upbeat, believes heavily in competition and hard work. As a second time college student, who grew up very competitive, and burned out, his class constantly hit on a nerve. Everything in this class is competitive. I enjoy it now, but it took a retake, a change in perspective, and buying into the class format. Also, make sure your group is solid
he has outside world expectations which would be fine for an internship supervisor, but can get annoying for a prof. subjective and runs his class based on his experience rather than structuring the course like... a course, i guess. plays favorites, but is understanding with everyone. his subjectivity is what got on my nerves
Truly no professor who is more passionate than Garver. I learned more in his 16 week class than I have in any marketing class. I loved his teaching model, you knew exactly what to expect every class period, his grading system was great as well. He gives fantastic feedback and is overall such a great person. You'll love this class.
