This professor was super helpful if I had any questions or concerns although it was a fair amount of reading due to it's online style.

FanTASTIC professor. It was a blended class so it was a bit more than the normal workload on your own but he was great at covering sensitive topics and so incredibly understanding/open to others opinions. Exams are based on the study guides you create so as long as you stay on top of it you will ace it. He will throw out unreasonable test questions

This was one of the better religion classes I've taken. Some of the topics were a bit outdated, but I still it was an easy class.

I loved Brother Goodman! The only textbook we used was Preach My Gospel. He's super spiritual and taught me a lot! The tests are just like the study guide, so memorize that and you'll do fine on the tests.

Great professor. Class was intuitive and clear. Workload was minimal. You can tell he cares about students and the course work. Would take again from him.

Professor Goodman is a great lecturer, supportive teacher, and an expert in his field. I really enjoyed the class. however, there is a lot of busy work, readings, and a lot of writing. You will have a short 2 or 3 page analysis assignment every other week and a long final paper. Mine ended up being around 10 pages. Great class, but very busy

I did every assignment in full and on time, but somehow lost a point here and there leaving me with an A-. I believe that I deserved an A for the work I put in, so I have been left somewhat frustrated with this outcome. Nonetheless, I have a lot of respect for Brother Goodman and he does a great job at cultivating a spiritual environment in class.

He is a fantastic teacher and will do anything in his power to help you get an A. Just study the study guides for the exams and you will do great. His class is enlightening.

Professor Goodman is a fantastic professor. I always felt the spirit in his class. Course work is given through Canvas. He gives you all the questions you will be tested on in the midterm and final at the beginning of the semester, and you fill them out based throughout the semester based on his lectures and Preach My Gospel readings.

This is a great mission prep class. Brother Goodman is a great teacher and has a lot of interesting stories. There are a few lesson outline assignments that are the bulk of your grade. They aren't necessarily difficult, but they take a lot of time, so don't procrastinate. Overall, I enjoyed this class and I think it helped me prepare for a mission.

Brother Goodman is one of the best professors I've ever taken a class from. My only complaint is that because this class was blended we only had 1 in-person lecture with him, and had to do the rest of the learning on Canvas. I had heard great things about the course and Brother Goodman but he far exceeded my expectations. Take this class from him!

Took this course online so I do not have a lot of personal experience working with this professor but the class was pretty easy. There is a big project but as long as you spend an hour a week on it's fine. Most other assignments are small and besides 2 points on the weekly quiz is mostly easy grading so long as you put in some effort.

I highly recommend Professor Goodman. He teaches clearly and concisely and invites the spirit. I learned much and I would take another one of his classes again in the future. There is a semester-long project that takes about an hour a week. Other than that there is a light workload. Take this class!

I was left wondering where a couple questions on the quizzes come from, but majority of the quiz grade is attendance/participation. And where ever the quizzes lack, the tests make up for it. Seriously not bad. Do the assignments, don't forget to take quizzes (@ me), and you'll be chilling.

Brother Goodman is an amazing lecturer and sets clear expectations for readings, assignments, and tests. He gives opportunities for extra credit. I would prefer having more opportunities to interact with other students in the class in small group discussions, but if you prefer to mostly learn by listening to the lecture than it's good.

Great teacher and class! The work is easier but his test are kind hard. You have to make sure you do ALL the reading and watch all the videos to do good on his test. It was a bit to much reading in my opinion but besides that he is a great professor and I would take again!

I loved this class. There was a lot of reading and videos, but if you actually answer the required reading questions you should do ok on the tests. They were a little harder than I thought but overall class is great.

I love brother Goodman's class! He uses doctrine and statistics in his lectures, which was really interesting. He gives study guides for his tests, and we have weekly quizzes based on the readings and lectures but they aren't hard. There are also either discussion posts or short written assignments due each week.

He was awesome! Attendance wasn't "mandatory" per se, but for the weekly quiz, you get up to 4 points (out of 9) deducted if you didn't attend class that week. He was very kind, loving, and approached everything in a very professional manner! Very easy grader, as well. As long as you complete everything, you will do great in the class.

Brother Goodman was very kind and willing to help. The online format of the class meant that there was minimal interaction with him or other students, but if that's what you like then this could be the class for you.

Brother Goodman is great! Super nice guy and very understandable when I had to make up some assignments because of health issues. The online class is pretty chill, a lot of reading and videos to watch but that makes sense because you're not actually attending class.

I loved Professor Goodman! He inspired me and it was one of my favorite religion classes. I felt like I learned something new and mind-blowing in each class. Prof Goodman is the actual GOAT! If you are at all interested in serving a mission, this class is the way to go. Sometimes the class goes off the topic BUT it is actually the best because he shares the coolest stories, prioritizing students over hard timelines. Make sure you get in the rhythm of the weekly assignments (super easy). 100% recommend.

Attendance is required, weekly assignments, two big final projects, and the final, itself. One of the projects was a paper 5-7 pages in length and the other was a semester-long project. Goodman is AWESOME, but I was having a rough semester when I took him and this class was one of the more stressful ones for me due to its weekly workload.

I love Brother Goodman, he is the sweetest! I had him for Mission Prep and though I loved this class, just be aware that he has lesson plan assignments that require a lot of outside time to work on. As long as you put effort in though he will give you a good grade so they are not stressful except for the amount of time they take to complete.

I really loved Brother Goodman! I took his class online and even though it was an online setting he would reach out to me and check up on me throughout the semester. It is just required readings with a quiz and discussion board every week with one project and paper due at the end of the semester. I would totally take him again!

One of the best teachers! He has such an amazing story and I learned so much from him! I knew that I could go to him with any question or concern and he would be able to answer it in such a Christ-like way. You do outlines of the missionary lessons that are a little time consuming, but you are actually going to use them so it is worth it.

He's so patient and Christ-like, and genuinely cares about each of his students. He emailed us individually halfway through the semester to check up on us and ask if there was anything he could do to help us in the class.

This is a great class, especially if you are looking for an all online option! The weeks are focused mostly on reading and then small quizzes and assignments. The hardest part is the tests which focus mainly on memorization but you get a really good study guide to help!

Brother Goodman is the best man. He is so intelligent and you learn so much in this class. I am preparing to serve a mission in august and this was the best class to take for that. We had 3 outlines due over the semester that took time to make but it's an assignment you can use on your mission and will be so helpful.

Brother Goodman is incredibly kind and encouraging. He loves missionaries and I was excited to tell him my mission call once it finally came. He's truly understanding towards students who decide not to serve. Attendance is self-reported. There are 3 large writing assignments (the lesson outlines) that take forever. Each one took me minimum 7 hrs.

This class does require more work than most religion classes (there are 3 projects that take about 7-12 hours each) Besides the heavier workload this class is really fun, the lectures are entertaining and have lots of fun stories in them.

He was so awesome. He really cared about his students and will check in with you if he knows you're struggling. You do need to go to every class period because not only do you need the info for tests, but there's an attendance quiz. But the assignments while you need to actually spend time thinking about them aren't hard. 10/10 recommend

I loved his eternal families class. He has a sociology background, so it was fascinating to learn about the statistical sides of the doctrine that really show how beneficial it is to follow the gospel of Jesus Christ. Really sensitive about touchy subjects. He was very interesting, and the homework was not bad. It was time consuming though.

There is one big project, but you set your own guidelines and it's uplifting. He's very open to answer questions in class or office hours, nothing is too deep to discuss.

Brother Goodman is very fun and knowledgable, which made lectures very engaging. He shared interesting stories and data from his research on marriage and family. I loved how he gave concrete suggestions on how we can strengthen our marriages and families. The workload was not too heavy, and it felt applicable.

Very caring, but spends too much time on what we already know and doesn't get to the main material. 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 paper, 1 project. Tests are MCQs and 3 out of 4 options seem right, but tests aren't weighted very heavy. Your grade is really padded by participation. You can get an A, but you might not love the class.

This is my second class that I have taken from him. He is an incredible man with great stories and insights. He is one of the founders of this course so you are in for a treat if you take it with him because you will learn things that you wouldn't be able to from any other professor.

I loved this class and honestly learned so many things I didn't know about the Gospel. The only thing I would recommend for students taking this class is to get started on the outlines early because they took me FOREVER but they were very beneficial to my learning and they aren't hard if you balance out how much time you spend on them every week.

Brother Goodman is an amazing professor. I learned so many great things! I would say that his tests seemed to be a bit harder than anything else, besides the lesson outlines. The lesson outlines are long and very time consuming, but ultimately so rewarding! He really is a great professor, and he you can tell he cares for his students.

Mike Goodman provided great spiritual insights and lead a relatively easy class. The only things to be aware of are lesson outlines due throughout the semester. They are not difficult if you manage your time well, but they do include a lot of material. Besides those, the reading is easy and study guides are provided for midterms and finals.

Brother Goodman is really really good. Teachings using doctrine and stats to back it up. Semester project and essay are good reflections, grading pretty easy. Some readings, but well worth the time to do it. He is aware of sensitive topics in the family and teaches in a way that shows compassion but also teaches the doctrine. Highly recommend him.

I took it right after I got married and it taught me so much about the many things that we're changing in my life. One of the best classes I've taken at BYU.

The professor is very passionate about the class subjects and it shows when he's teaching, because he'll get very excited talking about something that sometimes he couldn't fit all the subjects in one class. Is not a bad thing, cause every class was very spiritual!

Professor Goodman is by far the best professor I have ever had. I had him for mission prep, and I learned so much from his lectures and the stories he would tell. He has helped me feel so prepared for my upcoming mission that I feel like I could skip the MTC and just get chucked straight into teaching people. He truly cares for the students too. :)

Professor Goodman is GREAT!!! TAKE HIS CLASS!! He has minimal work other than the outlines, which can take up to hours to finish, but we only had three of those throughout the while semester, get those started early, and youll be fine.

Love brother Goodman. He approaches tough topics with a lot of compassion. You have a quiz and short response each week, and then a final and midterm. Only bad thing, there's a long paper due at the end. It's an easy topic but will take a long time. There are good quizlets online for the exams.

There is a good amount of reading each week but they are all very good and go along with his lessons. I really enjoyed taking his class and his tests are very managable.

If you want a good mission prep teacher, I highly suggest Goodman. He really knows his missionary stuff after being a mission president and teaching at the MTC. I feel so much more prepared for my mission now than when I started. You are going to have to do some pretty in depth teaching outlines but they will prepare you SO MUCH for your mission.

Brother Goodman is an amazing professor! His lessons are engaging He is knowledgeable and his experiences are inspiring. Listen to his warnings about he lesson outlines- they take forever and are really tedious, but once you fall into a grove with them their cake. Overall a pretty easy class, just stay on top of it.

I wish that every religion class was taught like this. He cares about you, he teaches the content so well, and this is the most wholistic approach to teaching the Eternal Family. I wish he could teach all of my religious classes.

Had a great conversational teaching style, extremely good at explaining sensitive topics, approachable, funniest guy you'll find in the religion department, gave him perfect gradings all the way. All stuff is due Saturday so if you're like me and taking way too many credits but want a religion class, pick him.

I loved this class so much! However, I did not know that it was half online, half in-person. Next time, I would not do that because I struggled with the online material. However, Brother Goodman was amazing! He is truly a passionate person! Mid-term and final are pretty challenging but not quizzes, and there are extra credit opportunities.

Prof Goodman is super awesome! Lessons are really engaging, and learn a ton. The outlines take a bit of time, but that's seriously the only work you do outside of class so would totally recommend him.

Brother Goodman knows the Eternal Families class extremely well (since he created it) and there is a lot to be learned. There will be quite a bit of reading and some long term assignments but you won't be shocked by the difficulty of anything from this course.

I did the hybrid method going to class once a week. Participation on that one day was a big part of each weekly quiz. Bro Goodman has good energy for the subject. I liked the balance of stats, spiritual content and personal examples.

I absolutely LOVE Brother Goodman!! I don't know if I would have survived Eternal Families without him. He is so incredibly knowledgeable as well as compassionate about sensitive issues. The course itself is good, with some of the assignments (primarily the essays) being kind of therapeutic tbh.

Brother Goodman is intentional and careful about how he teaches specific topics, being sure to convey love while doing so. He has interesting and profound viewpoints that I trust because of his background on the communications board for the Church. He makes each student feel special.

I loved having Brother Goodman as my professor in Univ 101. I really enjoyed his humor and wisdom. It felt like he went above and beyond to help students feel as if they had an advocate and friend in him. I'd highly recommend his Univ 101 class because he doesn't assign much busy work as well, focusing more on what students actually need.

I was having a hard semester, but he reached out to students and wanted to see how they were doing, not just in class, but in their lives in general. I'm so grateful I took his class. Brother Goodman is a wonderful professor, who loves each of his students and helps them accomplish their goals. He is really understanding and will answer questions that you might struggle with. It is usually a blended course, but is always willing to help.

Brother Goodman is a great professor. I am not a fan of BYU religion classes in general, but he is a good one to take eternal families from. The work is minimal, but there is HW every week. Usually a response in a discussion board. A few papers and 2 tests. Show up at class and listen and you should do great.

Professor Goodman is amazing! There is a project and one 6 page essay but if you pace yourself you'll be fine! One quiz and a discussion or an analysis assignment per week but it's so doable. Really the only thing is make sure you fill out the exam study guide throughout the semester everything on it is what is on the midterm and final exam!!

He was really good and gave information from studies that he completed. He was very knowledgeable in his area of study. I learned a lot from this class

Professor Goodman is awesome! If you are preparing to serve a mission, I would highly recommend his class. It is definitely more work than your typically Mission Prep class, but it was so worth the effort! Make sure to attend class, because it does count for your grade, and his lectures are so inspiring!

This online class was surprisingly enlightening and spiritually uplifting! I found it to be a little tedious, but it was worth it because you can tell that Brother Goodman and the TAs care about you. My only complaint is that there is a lot to read, but you can get through it because it is interesting.

Brother Goodman was a great professor. He gives a lot of resources to do well on exams and on papers. He is also very responsive to my emails, and would usually get back to me within a few hours of me sending them, even if it was an email I sent in the evening or on the weekend.

Professor Goodman is probably one of my favorite professors I've had. You can feel of his love & goodness before he even speaks. He truly cares, which is shown in how he learns everyone's names prior to the first day of class. He is also very wise and spiritual -- wish I could take more religion classes from him!

Great instructor he really cares. Learns your name before the first day, you have to go to class though and I didn't love the format. Great lecturer though, great suggestions super helpful for preparing for marriage life. Discussion posts were weighted heavier than I liked I missed one and missed a 1.5% of my final grade.

I really enjoyed the class and it was fairly easy to take online. There was one project that I found a little confusing and had to email the TA multiple times to clarify and figure out what to do. But, the TA was very helpful and quick to respond.

Professor Goodman did a wonderful job teaching the mission prep class. He gives you the opportunity to create missionary outlines for 3 of the discussions and gives you time to practice teaching in class. The outlines do take a while to create, so don't procrastinate. This class is more intense than your average religion class, but it is worth it!

Brother Goodman has such a positive energy when he teaches. You can feel his spirit, love for the gospel and love for his students. If you're taking mission prep, it's not going to be a free class. He doesn't grade harshly but compared to other mission prep classes his course has a higher work load because of the lesson outlines.

One of the best professors I've had! He's very clear in his explanation of the material, and is always open to questions and discussions. This was an online, on-demand class, but it was one of the best-organized online classes I've taken. Your grade is largely based on having done the reading, and the assignments do tend to promote thought and introspection. Brother Goodman is very aware of and willing to help individual students, and communicated very effectively.

Super easy class. There's a lot of reading, but the testing isn't too bad. There is a 6-7 page paper on your family (easy). All tests are multiple choice. The discussions and analysis assignments are easy and are graded on completion. If you complete your work and score around 83% on both tests (which is below the average), you will receive an A.

Professor Goodman is awesome!! This class has a ton of readings, specially if you're taking the Spring/Summer online class, but definitely manageable even if you're working or busy with life. The learning goals and required reading questions are EXACTLY what you will see on the exam, so it's worth answering them during the weekly lessons!

He is a caring and a good teacher. I would take from him again just be aware that there is a decent amount of reading each week

I LOVE Brother Goodman. He is so sweet and really cares about each student. He has his students fill out each Preach My Gospel lesson outline, which is very time-consuming but really helps you prepare for your mission. Make sure not to procrastinate it.

Brother Goodman was AMAZING. He was full of energy and always was excited to teach the gospel. One thing I struggled with was the outlines we had. We only had 3 outlines and had one due every 3 weeks. We had plenty of time to work on them but I did procrastinate. Because of that I spent 16 hours in 2 days working to finish one assignment.

Taking Eternal Families online from Professor Goodman was actually a great choice. I got all the spiritual benefits without having to be in person, which was nice. This class is moderately difficult in terms of workload but none of it was hard. Just a lot of reading and watching lectures.

Good for an online class, but these honestly end up being more trouble than they're worth sometimes. Take a good in-person professor for this class and you'll get more out of it.

Brother Goodman was great! He has so much love and respect for all his students, and I am super glad I took this class. Attendance is self-reported, but you should go to as many lectures as you can because he is so inspirational and his insights allow for such great testimony-building and conversation-creating experiences.

Brother Goodman is probably the hardest professor for the mission prep class but it is completely worth it. The only reason it's hard is because you have to do mission lesson outlines. These things are amazing though, my older brothers all took a class from him and they used the outlines on their actual mission.

Brother Goodman is THE best! Always felt the spirit. We had 2 quizzes per week asking if we did the Preach My Gospel reading, and an insight that we learned from class. Throughout the semester we completed 3 lesson outlines which were time consuming but not very difficult. The midterm and final were pretty easy to study for and find study material.

Brother Goodman is a wonderful person. He learned our names before our first class, showing how caring he is. While there are many lectures, he provides guiding questions for note-taking, which are the same as those on the midterm and final. Just stay on top of the reading guides, and you'll be just fine.

His lectures are really interesting and I can tell he cared a lot about us. There are three outlines you have to do and they take a lot of time but they are totally worth doing if you actually put forth some effort for them.

His online Eternal Families class is too difficult in my opinion for the 2 credit hour class that has reputation for being the easiest of the religion classes at BYU. I love Professor Goodman! His lectures are so interesting and engaging, and he teaches in a way that is really easy to understand. There is a class reflection assignment due every day of class, so if you make sure to get all of those assignments done, it's not too hard to do well in his class.

The homework consists of Preach My Gospel readings and lesson outlines from PMG. The outlines are a lot of work, but they are so worth it! I can't recommend Brother Goodman enough!!

Dr. Goodman is super nice and quick in responding to emails. Also has really great study guides that tell you exactly what are on the exams. If you fill those out while working through the modules and study those for the exams, you'll definitely do well.

GUYS RUN DO NOT WALK HE IS SO GOOD!!! Not only do his classes actually teach you and make sense, he is SO FUNNY! What a nice guy, actually cares about you as a student and your grades! He has three missionary outlines throughout the semester which can be difficult if you majorly procrastinate, but he explains clearly how to do them so you're chill!

While Brother Goodman's mission prep is more intensive, I have never felt more prepared or excited to serve. The main source of homework is the information-heavy mission lesson outlines he requires. If your goal is an easy class to coast through, keep looking. However, if you really want to be prepared, take it! Exams are a little hard, so study!

Professor Goodman truly cares, about his subject, his students, and their growth. His lectures are funny, insightful, and backed by interesting stats. Readings are meaningful, projects build character, and he supports anyone who puts in honest effort. Highly recommended.

Lots of reading. If you're willing to just skim things quickly and watch every video on 2 times speed, it's technically time equivalent to in-person. Overall the organization and content of the class were incredible and I loved the course. Spent a lot more than 4 hours a week doing course-work though.

Midterm and Final were a bit tricky and difficult. Easy A. You have to study random quotes and doctrine

Took it online. Nice guy. Class was organized very clearly, and he told you what you would need for tests. The tests were closed-book, and the amount of content on them felt like a bit much, but I appreciate that it was less than everything ever mentioned, like some people do. Overall, it was chill, I'd do it again.

Take his classes. Your only homework is required readings and 1 big project at the end of the semester. The midterm and finals are difficult, but if you do the readings, they are easy and straightforward.

He was the best! Super funny occasionally we did not get to the stuff we were supposed to in lecture, but other than that it was good. When we got off topic it was always a good discussion

Profesor Goodman is an engaging teacher who explains things clearly. His mission prep class doesn't have a lot of homework other than the lesson outlines which are pretty detailed but are very useful. If you take this class from him make sure to give yourself plenty of time to make your outline.

Prof. Goodman is amazing! He has put so much time and effort into his lectures and course. I learned something new every week! There are a couple of assignments/papers that take a good chunk of time but as long as you prepare for them, you'll be fine. Every other week throughout the semester was super chill with participation grades & discussions.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, this class was not fun, but Professor Goodman made it bearable. He is a good educator and approached difficult topics in a way where I felt welcome to ask questions and have open discussions. He studies LQBTQ+ youth and suicidality, so I felt he had a deeper understanding of this topic and how to approach it.

I have taken Professor Goodman for a few classes now. I like his classes because he seems to care more about his students' growth a lot. I will say that the tests in this specific class were a lot more difficult than his others, but overall, I still learned a lot and enjoyed the class.

Professor Goodman is hands down my favorite professor at BYU. The way that he teaches is so reverent, full of awe, and full of love. I've taken two of his classes now and would recommend them to anyone and everyone! He is a good man, a good professor, and a good friend.

Solid class, good readings and videos, I learned a lot

Professor Goodman is the best! This class is super fair. He outlines exactly what he will be testing and if you actually watch/ do the lectures it is very easy to get an A. Plus, I actually learned a lot and loved the material and the way he went about teaching it. Would recommend 1000x over!

Great professor, great class with so many amazing talks and church resources included in the lessons. I read so many talks that I've never heard of before that truly were incredible. Definitely recommend this class!
