I had a surprisingly great time in this class even though it was a summer class. Hainzinger is a great teacher but might as well be a standup comedian on the side. He makes you think about the articles ur reading but doesnt force you to think what he thinks. Great teacher and a cutie.

This teacher is really cool. Seemed to really appreciate literature, and even brought in a record player (yes record player!) so we could listen to authors reading their own poems. It was a cool class and I'd definitely take another with him.

Very helpful teacher. Completely laid back and fun to learn from. Knows a LOT about english and will answer your questions even if they go a little beyond the scope of the class. Grades fairly, you have to earn an A, but he deffinately tries to help you get there. Take his class if you need something he's teaching.

He knows a lot about english and if u pay any attention u will do very well in his class. He is a fair grader and willing to help u out if u need it. His class is not boring, he keeps it interesting with important facts that are unrelated to english about a variety of topics. I would take his class Eng 101. Im bad at english but still doing good.

I was lucky and I was able to take Mike in English 101. If you have the opportunity to take his class, at any level, make sure you take it! I had taken AP classes in high school, and I never learned as much in my years --back in high school-- as I did in 6 weeks within his class. Very fair grader and explains many concepts well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I've taken two classes with Mike and I'm disappointed that he doesn't teach 102. Pay attention, proofread your work, participate in class, and ask questions if you need help. He's approachable and if you fail, then it's your fault. He keeps the class interesting with facts that he's interested in, you'll definitely learn more than just English.

Funny, very good teacher. Taught me a lot about proper grammer in an easy way. Very difficult grader, proofread every paper, then proofread it again and you should be fine.

Mike is very funny keeps the class going, giving breaks during class and doesn't get mad when you are late at all. Just don't be late 30 minutes every time.

If you did well in Highscool English, his class will be really easy. He sometimes lectures word origin and other random history, but he is very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend him. I didn't use the Quick Access Compact or the Norton Field Guide to Writing, but they may be needed for English 102.

Hands down most fun teacher you will have! his classes are interesting and its not all learning about writing! take him if its possible, its worth it!

One of the best teachers I've ever had. Extremely laid-back, pretty charming, and you can really tell he's passionate about English and language in general. I had him for ENG 101 (an 8 week class) and we were only assigned about 5 relatively short papers - that was it! No homework or tests. Nice guy. Your class will feel like family by the end.

Easy class and cool teacher. He'll come in late for morning class because he't not a morning guy but overall his class is very easy as long as you just do the essays. You have maybe 5-7 essays all semester and it's very easy. no tests, no quizzes, the only homework is you have to ready once in a while and you type up your essay.

This professor is a good teacher but is very mellow in class and sometimes it seem that he does not care about how he looks or teaches, but does care if you pass or not.

Beware to hear a million interesting facts about random things. I took English 101 with Mike and he is my favorite of all teachers. He cares about students making sure you become a better writer, he is hilarious and makes class lots of fun. Very understanding if you have a valid excuse for missing class and due dates. He has so much knowledge.

Best professor at JJC. Feeling lost, scared, and undecided about college, Mike's class was a blessing. He influenced my decision to become an English teacher. Great teacher 10 out of 5 stars. Had him for ENG 099 this semester and he is a all around great teacher as well as a friendly individual.

SO helpful and such a laid back teacher but you will always understand what you are supposed to be doing. VERY CLEAR criteria and such a easy grader. Made the class more enjoyable, wasn't boring and doesn't just sit there and lecture about boring material.

I get severe anxiety while at school sometimes and I can say that I had never felt anxious while in his class at all. There was 5 papers during the semester and a final paper all about yourself (very easy). Not mandatory to go to class but can be helpful. Rarely stay for whole class. Stay on track with papers and you'll do fine. Would take him again but he does not teach 102 :(

I took Mike for English 099, and 101. He's so laid back and chill! He goes over essay requirements for like 2 weeks and as a class so you do your whole outline in class with him. All you're left to do is research. He's so smart. Coolest teacher at JJC.

This professor is definitely one of the best! I liked how whenever we got our papers back he would write down what we needed to improve on. I don't recall him ever giving out a quiz or test the whole semester. I would RECOMMEND him to anybody taking English!!!

I had mike for English 101, his class was super easy! Every essay turned in he gave back really clear and constructive criticism. Due to covid 19 the class had to switch to online & with no online class experience he made it really easy for anyone to contact him if any questions were needed!

He definitely loves English. Interesting lectures. Nitpicky on grammar rules, but overall very understanding. You can get whatever grade you desire if you apply yourself. Lenient on due dates and cares about his students doing well. Would take him again

Mike Hainzinger is a great professor, he gives great lectures in class. Mike gives plenty of time for due dates and when you need additional time he allows you until the end of the semester to do those. Mike really takes an interest in each student and sees where each student needs help individually and he helps students grow. 100% take his class.

Best English Teacher at JJC

Professor Hainzinger is my favorite professor I've had so far! He was super nice and always responded to emails quick. There are 4 essays and one shorter one for a final. He gives great feedback while grading, but can be nitpicky. A few smaller assignments based on grammar, etc. Great professor!

All of the guidelines for the homework assignments and papers were very clear, often with helpful outlines to guide you through the whole process! While there were deadlines for the papers, he was extremely grateful for extensions and almost anything could be turned in until the end of the semester. Super understanding and overall great professor!

Mike Hainzinger is definitely one of the best professors I've had at JJC. He's super helpful and responds right away. He gives you like a week to do assignments and he's very laid back. I 100% recommend Professor Hainzinger for English 101!

Took his class in person before the Covid switch. Always walked away having learned more than the simple curriculum through his awesome lectures and cool stories. If I could retake his class, I 100% would. He makes the essays very enjoyable because he gives you a good amount of freedom on your topics.

I took his class two times now. I LOVE him he makes you want to go to class and stay on top of your work. He mainly grades by essays but is not that tough of a grader. He's honest and truly wants you to pass his class. He lets you take more time on essays and turn them in late if you have something pop up, as long as it's turned in before the end.

His lessons are filled with trivia answers and fun facts about history and English, which makes going to his class something to look forward to. Did you know the MacBook got its name from the McIntosh apple? Yea, me either, thank you Mike!

This class is essay heavy, but you get more than enough time to finish them. If you are looking to take rhetoric 101, it would be a mistake if you chose anyone besides him. Really good teacher and explains every paper very well. Papers are the only thing that gets graded. He gives a clear topic and criteria during a class then every class leading up to the due dates he teaches how to better your paper and pointers on writing your paper. Teaches a lot of good techniques if you aren't a strong writer and great feedback.

Professor Hainzinger is an engaging and helpful instructor. The class has manageable workload, and he provides great feedback on papers. Using tools like Unstuckstudy alongside the free course materials helped me stay on top of the assignments.

A bulk of his lectures are going over exactly what is expected of you, the outlines and sentence minimums, with breaks going on tangents about etymology and pop culture (which are always pretty relevant to the class) in order for focus to stay maintained. Grade is 90% essays but with clear expectations the class was an easy pass.

Best professor. Cares about the performance of his students, and offers extended due dates if needed. Lots of papers, but as long as you pay attention and turn them in you will be fine. My only complaint is he does not provide a rubric for anything, but explains well in class. Take notes!

This professor is probably one of the most laid back ones I have ever had. You could quite literally turn a paper in 3 weeks late and he will still accept it and take it for full credit. This class is super easy. I think I only showed up like four times and just submitted the papers and I left the class with an A.

Mike is a great guy and professor. Attendance is mandatory, and will affect your grade. The topics for the papers we wrote were interesting (in a good way) and required appropriate research. He gave great feedback if you asked for it and was available for questions outside of class. I highly recommend taking this class!

Professor Hainzinger is an awesome teacher! He gives you examples of EXACTLY what he expects from you with your papers, and he is very easy to talk to when you have questions. I love that his class was just 5 papers; there weren't any extra in-class assignments that take all your time for only a point here and there. Definitely would take again!!
