always very clear on how to do things, friendly
makes difficult material manageable...beware-perfection *required* on the labs.

This man needs to teach every psych class there is. It's a simple as that. He's clear, concise and offers a well-prepared class.
Awesome teacher. Helpful, and personable. Completely approachable, knowledgable and seems to take interest in his students.
An awesome professor. He's a great teacher and makes stats so much easier to handle. I was dreading the lab before but now I actually look forward to them! I'd be totally lost if it wasn't for him!
He is very clear and concise. I wish he taught the lecture section as well.
Had him years ago, and he is STILL willing to help me whenever I run into a stats problem. If you put in the tiniest ounce of effort to learn, he'll go out of his way for you.
I mark for him now, and I now see why I hated the markers when I was in the class. He's very, very precise, but it's because he cares that people do well, and he just cares about people. One of the nicest and most considerate profs I've had. A solid guy.
This is a prof who really cares about his students and is always willing to help. He is particular, but you're a better student because of it!
In the edited-for-content, yet still immortal words of Ferris Beuller, 'Halldorson is so tight, if you stick a lump of coal in his fist, in two weeks you'll have a diamond'. Apparently a great guy, but be prepared to be spoken to like a two year old.
Can you say "Data-Anal."? Jokes... Mike is good people. And he runs a good show. ALWAYS willing to help you which you really learn to appreciate as the days, months, and years go by.
at least he let us use pencil crayons...
Halldorson taught this course sooo well in 6 weeks! A 12 week course condensed into 6 weeks and most of us walked out with a B....that says a lot about the clarity and efficiency of this prof....awesome!
he loves stats, shows a lot of enthusiasm, is always clear with explanations and will do whatever it takes to help you understand material.
Is a great prof, clear and concise and he knows what he wants. He is a bit of a hard marker, but that is ok because he is very helpful in and out of class - which is good cause it makes the class easier and more... dare I say... FUN!!??!!
this prof is horrible...he made at least 3 students cry in class, told students that they shouldn't be in a stats class etc. he is very rude
had to take this class for my major, and wasn't looking forward to it but halldorson was great and made things very easy to understand. If I have to take another stats course he's the only one i'd want to teach it.
Mike who?? Apparently he taught my class but was too good to show up for evening classes. He hired some pretty sad students to teach in his place. I paid good money for a course that was taught by someone younger than my socks. Nice touch U of W. Don't waste your time. Choose another major. Psychology is just what it says, Psych!!!
Thoroughly prepared & organized (many handouts, practice problems, etc.) Knows material. Mediocre at best at teaching. Wants to help you, but is the kind of guy that gets locked into the detailed rules that are meant to help out both sides (life would fall apart without them apparently?!) Don't ever expect bent rules from him. Essay on final.

Alright well he's not too bad. He's extremely clear when speaking and doesn't beat around the bush. But yes i found him to be a little creepy at times, too picky, and way too anal. Oh and he likes to use words like rationale, establishes, indicates and basically he says basically all the time. I tally it up.
Dr.Halldorson is like a male pixie... spreading the wonders and magic of stats to the world! I was impressed. Very focused, very passionate and enthusiastic. He doesn't deserve the negative reviews, he is absolutely wonderful, knows your name and a guy i'd have a beer with! Give him a break, he may talk to you like a two year old, but it is kinda amusing, people have their quirks.

By far the worst prof i have had yet. I cannot understand a word he says in class. Then, when I read the textbook it makes perfect sense. He makes everything seem so much more difficult than it has to be. He also makes me very uncomfortable.
If you dislike H it's b/c you don't want to put in the effort required. Has high standards but is more than willing to help outside of class time. Very hard tests and hard marker... be prepared
This is the guy you want teaching you data analysis for psych. He lays everything out step by step very carefully to make sure you understand. He also gives out enough handouts to wallpaper a small room. Great prof.
i took data analysis with him. all power point, and a difficult subject to make interesting. he seemed enthusiastic about the subject but it was hard for me to join in the enthusiasm. did alright in the course, but probably b/c of lack of interest and motivation
This guy really knows his stuff and I agree that he is the guy to take data analysis with. He doesn't mark tough, thats the way stats are, you can't make even the smallest calculation error.
Very Nice man! Is very helpful and wants everyone to understand the material. His tests are fair, and makes good power point notes. Recomended!!
one word...BRUTAL!!
awesome prof. Very fair, clear, helpful, etc! Made the course a breeze. The labs are even easier.
Enthusiastic, interactive, and interesting. Excellent teacher - makes material relevant and accessible, and always eager to answer questions. Approachable and helpful outside of class time. Tests are fair and straightforward. One of the best professors I've had.
He's a little dull, but if you go to the text book site it prepares you really well for his tests.
A nice guy and a good teacher, although he does have some annoying quirks. He has a tendency to overuse the word "actually" when he gets nervous, as in he will use it more than four times in the same sentence!
Great prof! As helpful and approachable as they come. Well-paced, well-explained material. Some test elements a bit difficult, but overall, a highly recommended professor. Take classes with him if you can.
Very helpful prof, answered emails and phone calls if I needed help. Tests material was as you predicted, so there was no suprises. Classes were a little dull, but that was more of the class material, not his teaching style.
Very nice guy, likes to stay after class and chat it up with you about the material and gives you positive feedback for working. Also if you ask him what kind of format and what will be on the finals he will give it to you, i.e "don't worry about the essay isn't worth THAT much" Recommended!!!
He provides notes. But the lectures are really boring. He repeatedly uses the word 'and' with an accentuated voice, it's annoying but kinda funny. He is very helpful and approachable. Nice guy. Seems intimdating at first, but really isn't. He's seems to be nicer to people who attend class regularly. Final exam was pretty tough, he provides formulas
Class very easy and his notes very easy to read and understand. When it came to the tests if you study your notes you will only have a vague idea of terminology. The test question are worded very differently and confusing from the material taught in class. I don't think the tests should be this hard in an introductory course.
Phenomenal prof, especially for such a dry course. Exceptionally helpful, enthusiastic (made lectures in data analysis actually interesting!), explains difficult concepts and formulas, etc, well. Tests are very hard, but if you study hard you'll do fine!
Brutal professor. Very dry lectures and overcomplicates the material. Exams were completely different than our powerpoint slides. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Great Prof. lots of energy at 830 am! Nice man. Tests are a little tricky but would still recommend class.
Great prof. Makes class fun. For sure would take another class with him.
Great Prof! Funny and helpful his tests are hard but if you study they are not a problem...
His lectures were always behind and you would be forced to re-read the materials in the book because he would rant about useless topics. You can tell he is passionate about psychology but his lectures were very dry. I wanted to study psychology until I took his class.
I got a B+ in this class, so don't think my mark is the factor for this poor rating. He does have a passion for the course and does show life in class but he is extremely dull, with bad humor and is always behind on the material. You pretty much have to teach yourself the course. Tests are difficult.
alright, sounds like michael j fox's dad from back to the future.
You're basically teaching yourself. Almost always behind on syllabus. Teaches content AFTER a test.
He was a terrible prof!!!
WOW! It's pretty much impossible to fail this course. Use Psych portal, it's laughably easy. All tests are multiple choice. Tells you exactly what will be on each test. Extends deadlines if asked, assignments keep you from falling behind. Just keep up to them as lectures fall behind. Well written textbook, easy read. Research requirement sucks.
Dr H is the BOMB. Teaches stats in a structured and logical way so that anyone would grasp it eventually regardless of their inherent ability. He makes time for his students and will still help you after you have finished his course. He's a treasure - thanks Dr. H!
Without a doubt the worst professor I've had at this school. Lectures consisted solely of 25 minute presentations which the students had to deliver. Has not gotten past chapter 2(!) in lectures yet his tests are full of the most obscure questions possible from random sections of the textbook. Extremely unhelpful when approached outside class.
Worst professor from all my years of university. Did not teach past chapter 2. Teaches material already covered in the test. Doesn't reply back to emails. He is not the slightest bit helpful when it comes to exams. You basically have to teach yourself. This is the one class I was most excited about this semester and it was just terrible.
Probably the worst prof I have ever had. If you don't have to take this class, don't torture yourself. You read the book and thats the test. Hasn't given marks back for presentations done in February. Seriously so slack. Makes students do presentations all semester. I don't learn well from just reading a book, so i'm sure my mark will reflect that.
This is by far the worst prof I have ever had at the U of W. He didn't teach at all (except for parts of chapter 1 and 2) and then spent the whole term doing 25 minute presentations (THIS WASN'T A SEMINAR) He is not helpful, his exams are meant to trick you and he does not teach. Why teach CJ if you don't know what you're doing? DISLIKE!!!
Please note that this review doesn't reflect any bitterness I have towards my mark. Although I (painstakingly)received an A in his class, he is the worst prof I have come across. Be prepared to memorize every single page of every single chapter assigned for tests. He does not lecture any material, so you literally have to teach yourself. Avoid!
Very good Professor. Easy and fair tests as long as you take some time to review notes and study the textbook. Nice guy and made students feel comfortable asking questions. Really recommend him!
Dr. Halldorson's lectures are always on point. Show up to class, take notes, read the textbook and pass. Tests are multiple choice! Study the main concepts and you will do fine.
PHENOMENAL prof! Gives interesting, funny, relevant lectures and makes the info understandable with clear examples. Provides plenty of online quizzing and easy research credits to boost your grade. All tests/exams easy multiple choice. Really understands what he is teaching. I can't wait to take another class with him!!
hes really helpful and always there to help all the students
Overall good prof. Tends to emphasize/yell very random and unnecessary words. A very tiny man. Easy course though
A very helpful professor. Teaching style was really great.
As others have noted, the content of Dr. Halldorson's lectures vary and, although they are relevant to the course, don't necessarily cover the textbook. I missed a lot of class due to health circumstances and he was very compassionate, he also responds to every question and comment. He expects hard work, but nothing unreasonable.
I don't know why he even has bad ratings. He's the most helpful prof, he always answered my emails within the same day and his tests were easy in my opinion as long as you go to class and READ YOUR MODULES. You can't get away with just focusing on in class notes. Overall great guy, would take again!!
LOVE Dr. Halldorson! Was so clear and concise and always so pleasant to be around. Was a complete pleasure to be in his class. His lectures were straight to the point but still had room for his really cute humour. Modules are a bummer, but they really make you understand the material. Overall a great prof who I hope to have again!
Excellent professor. Very quirky, but kind and knowledgeable. His Class is easy and he is one of the most respectable professors you will come across.
Great class. Awesome professor.
Loved being in Dr. Halldorson's class. Very nice prof and always made room for jokes and stories. Would sometimes go off topic and some lectures were boring. Was willing to help and clarify questions that I had. Was very pleasant to talk to during office hours.
very easily accessible, nice person, fair grader, multiple choice parts of exams are hard otherwise they are very reasonable
Dr. Halldorson was an amazing professor. I was so nervous to take statistics and he made everything so clear, and his lectures explained everything you needed to know. He cares so much about his students & makes a point of making sure that everyone is doing the best that they can. I would take the course again and I'll definitely miss it!
Im sure hes wonderful at teaching, but I find his teaching style off-putting. When people wouldnt immediately answer a question he would say something along the lines of cmon people, I expect you to jump out of your seat and say Prof. Halldorson I know the answer! He also refuses to use NEXUS for whatever reason which is really obnoxious.
Took him for intro, his lectures were fine but if you read the textbook you don't have to go to class since he's basically just repeating it. Found the test questions to be unnecessarily vaguely worded and sometimes complicated to understand. Basically be prepared to read the textbook front to back.
Great prof, made our early morning classes engaging and interesting so that we wouldn't fall asleep.
he doesn't teach you anything from the textbook, you are expected to read it and learn it all for yourself.. test questions are very hard and questionable at best. The whole class is basted off of seminars and attendance is mandatory. nothing from the presentations are tested and you are purely tested on textbook material (which isn't taught)
worst prof-tests for material that was never covered in class, and assigns the textbook for required readings but never actually teaches you anything. this is not a seminar course yet it was structured as such with 2 presentations per student.. attendance is mandatory but consumes the whole course with material that isnt even tested.
Hardest class Ive ever done, professor doesnt teach you anything
Super caring and passionate about what he teaches. Fair tests.
Good guy seems passionate about what he does. Be prepared to read the textbook COVER TO COVER. Wish the lectures flowed with the readings, slides are weak and not posted. Test questions are challenging and not always very fair, too tricky and vague to be on a test. Always answers questions and ecourages emails. Lectures helpful, could b better
This is one of the most difficult class you will ever take when it comes to your first-year class as a university student. His lectures are always late with the modules he signs you to do. 2 Modules per week and he can't finish a module within a week. His wordings on his tests are vague and difficult to understand which makes you question yourself.
Too many surprises on a test. Questions are vague and hard to understand. Slides are weak and are little to nothing. Some questions on the test are not from lectures nor from the textbook. I believe hes a good prof but his lectures, slides, test, etc. needs more work. Encourage you to email him and answer questions.
His tests are really hard to understand with the way he word his questions. Recently did a test that included 11 modules instead of 8 because he did not include the extra 3 modules from the first test. What I dont like is that if he cant finish/fit 11 modules prior a test, what makes him think his students can? I dont understand. Sorry, Dr. Mike
Tests are very hard and not easy to understand. Not to mention they're for all MC and are 8-11 modules at a time PLUS lecture information. The wording of questions is odd and vague. If you miss a lecture, you miss the information, that's on you. You are responsible to read the entire textbook because he does not teach from it AT ALL.
I took his intro to psychology class. He is very passionate about what he teaches. He is not good at following a timeline and ends up rushing key information. The exam as well as tests are 90% based off of lecture material but you will still have to read the text book. I enjoyed his energy and you will do fine as long as you stay on top of the work
Great prof. Very interesting lectures. Easy to understand. Lots of textbook reading, be prepared to read front to back. Tests are very fair, mostly based off lecture material. Don't expect to pass if you don't attend lectures.
you need to read the material, psych is already a difficult subject and he doesn't really make it easier. study for your tests, make sure you take good notes to study off of. he has a good response time and if you ask him questions/ show interest in psychology he's really great to talk to and will praise you for asking questions. he's there to help
The prof is actually knowledgeable but the main issues with him are he never lectures, we spent the entirety of the term doing student presentations, he expects you to do all the work yourself, essentially you are teaching yourself the material, he grades pretty tough and doesn't have a good criteria, I would steer clear,
If you take this class with him, be prepared to educate yourself on the textbook on your own. You will be quizzed almost entirely on the textbook. It is worth it to participate to get full marks for that because you will need those extra points in your final mark. He is more generous with presentation marks vs test marks.
Stay away from this class. there is basically no lecture material. Each class is student presentations, no actual lecture slides or very minimal. The tests are based solely on the textbook making it super difficult to understand what to study, also no test reviews are given out!
literally the worst prof i have ever had, i dropped out because of mike.
