Great teacher best Eng in HFCC, You would be happy with this choice. i would take him another semester in a heart beat

Good Teacher, cool, very approachable.

Very interesting professor and very excited about what he is teaching. This is not a blow off class. You are expected to be in class everyday and will be quized on all reading assignments. This class was challenging but fair. If you show up, participate and do the reading and essays you will do good in the class.

Very easy A all you have to do is show up for class and do the work. There will be a quizz after every reading but they are only 6 question and you can really put anything as long a it has something to do with the reading. There are only 4 or 5 essay due in the course.

One of my favorite teachers ever! If you are really into wrighting then take this class! The class was devoted to exploring interesting and relevant topics and gaining insight on them. It?s not an easy class but I found it to be enjoyable if you are willing to do the work.

Okay he's nice and funny but he can be really confusing as to what his demands are when it comes to writing papers. If he tells you to read u'd better read, bcuz those quiz points are worth ALOT! If u ever have trouble though, just go to his office and ask for help, he's more than willing to help u wit improving ur paper.

I honestly think Mr. Hill was a great teacher for me! I writing skills improved drastically. Besides that, Mr. Hill is beyond hilarious. There's a new funny story everyday!

Mr. Hill was a great teacher, I don't know what all the fuss was about. If you tell him you don't understand, he will go over it with you. Homework was a breeze! He is funny, he likes to joke around.

I had no interest in English before this class. Mike changed that. You HAVE to do the reading. I think the most reading we were assigned was 30 pages. Usually it's around 15-20 pages and there is always a really easy quiz on it. Besides that, he wants you want really use your brain, so if you don't like to analyze things, then this isnt for you

When I first took his class(Fall 09) I would've marked him down here as awful, but reflecting back on his class I realize it wasn't bad at all. His teaching methods are unique, and quite different from other English professors and that I think is what tends to throw people. But as long as you do the readings and show up you should do well.

He is really nice teacher, and funny too. You need to read a lot and attend class in order to survive. He's concern with your grade and does his best to help you out and you can see that not too many professors do that. I respected him highly and tooked him for 3semesters and if I can i would do it again in a heartbeat.

hill is very caring and likes to make you think. all of his papers make you critically think. you have to be on time to take his reading quizes or turn in homework. so you have to be commited, but in the long run you will learn a lot

Mike is great. He has a different look on teaching & he really engages in conversation with everyone. Just please, do NOT use or even take out your cell phone! He WILL throw you out of the room. You HAVE to read the books because he does small quizzes every day & they do add up. Overall, amazing teacher.

Mike is a fantastic teacher. He has a different way of looking at things and makes you think outside of the box. if you don't like analyzing then this isn't for you. He doesn't correct grammar on your papers he puts comments on them that help out a lot. if you love english take this class! also mike really helps you develop as a writer in his class

Mike is a great teacher, that said he is a hard teacher in the sense that he helps you develop as a writer. This class is a huge difference from other freshmen comp classes you might take, as he tells you are a scholar. Just participate in class & if you have trouble with your work, ask him for help, his critique helps in finding your voice.

Mike is an excellent teacher. He is a hard teacher nonetheless, but he really makes you grow as a writer and helps you develop your abilities. The papers are a little indirect and require a lot of critical thinking, but looking back now I am beyond happy I took him because I feel like my writing has improved 100% after taking him. GREAT TEACHER

Great teacher. Always ready to help, easy to contact. You have to go to class and read the book. The reading is easy, short and simple. I learned a lot and his comments on my papers where extremely helpful. Take him if you want to learn and improve your writing.

He requires a lot of work for an introduction class, but he cares about his students and you'll walk out the class as a better writer.

He expects you to do what you're there for! If you do your reading assignments and participate you'll do fine. He is strict, but I feel like I left this class a MUCH better writer because of his teaching style. He is always willing to help if you ask him. He is a nice guy. Slackers, this is not the class you're looking for he will not tolerate you.

I really liked having Mike as a teacher. He is passionate about what he does & gives good extra credit. Reading is a MUST to pass his weekly quizzes. However, he uses profane language and doesn't always give helpful answers. The only complaint I have is he cancelled the final 2 hours before it was set to take place, which hurt a lot of our grades.

Mike is a great professor. he is willing to help you if you ask for help. If you put the effort into the class he'll work with you. Also made class interesting every day.

Took Eng131 W him He is definitely stricked & will not tolerate disrespect of subject or other students, cares about his students & very knowledgeable, you learn in his class. His problem is grading, although he grades fairly & gives chances BUT you wont know your grade until the end of the semester, will take him again attendance is important .

Great professor who inspired my writing, test can be a little tricky, although that is more the subject than the professor I think. would take again if i needed more english classes. Hilarious, thought provoking and keeps the classes interesting.

I've taken Mike's American Lit Before 1900 and after 1900 classes. He's a tough professor, but he's passionate about the material and really places a lot of faith in his students. He encourages a lot of discussion and even "arguments" sometimes. Gave me a lot of food for though. I loved his class.

At first i never understood Mike i thought he was a hard teacher to deal with & that he was kind of strict with everything . Then i realized after that he is actually a great guy hes into getting his students to become great people in the future and he really cares for them and wants them to succeed . He wants you to work hard for your own success.

He doesn't really have a set attendance policy, but he does have a lot of in-class work. He doesn't really do makeups, so make class whenever you can. If you have to skip class a lot, you should look for a different professor. Lots of homework/papers, but he will work with you and provide feedback on how you're doing. You have to go to him, though.

He is one of the coolest professors at HFC. He makes you think outside of the box.

Dr. Hill is one of the best professors out there! He will give you feedback on your paper so that you can improve for the better. There is a plethora of note-taking so be ready to make time for reading and taking notes weekly. There were four essays in total that prepare you to have a sophomore level of writing and require lots of research.

He is the best professor I have ever had! He is every positive thing you could want in a teacher. I had him for into. to phil. be ready to read if you take this course because it is needed for understanding, but he is well worth it. Do the work and you will get a good grade. He understands that phil. is a concept not an incorrect-correct idea.

Lots of work every week but it's super interesting and enjoyable. He's a funny professor and tries to connect with his students.

I loved this class, I actually took his philosophy class and he was not only a great philosophy teacher but he was also super empathic and comprehensive towards students. The best professor I had this semester.

An awesome human being and lecturer. Obviously you have to participate and come to class ready to learn to pass this class, and he is always willing to go above and beyond to help all of his students succeed. A lot of readings that will feel hard to understand but this is a college class, so that's expected!!!

He is an amazing professor . He cares about his students. His feedbacks are really helpful and the reading he assigns are really enjoyable and covers all the class work . I will definitely take another class with him.

Mike's class was more challenging than I expected, but in a good way. You will learn a lot and open your mind to many new ideas. Remember you get out of it what you put into it! He's a really great guy who will work with you and gives great advice. Really fun in the classroom. He takes a looong time to grade so beware if that might bother you.

i took his class last fall semester and i gotta say that Professor Hill is a great teacher! He's super knowledgeable and engaging, and he gives really helpful feedback. Only downside is he can be a slow grader and email responder at times. But overall, I'm glad I took his class.

I think Mike is an amazing teacher who truly cares about his students, he makes you read for every class and has about 4-5 projects for the semester with a lot of time and pretty easy. Although he does take forever to grade them. He gives good feedback and is a great professor, I would definitely recommend him to everyone.

don't let these reviews scare you lol, he's fine!! can't speak for other classes, but as long as you show up and read the material, you're practically guaranteed a b. it's heavily based around discussion (that isn't boring? crazy, ik), so participation matters!! he may be chill, but you can tell he still cares a lot about his students doing well :)

Great professor; encourages thinking, learning, and growth. Bad reviews are probably from ppl looking for an easy way out. You will be challenged but that is a good thing! Truly cares about education and the success of his students. Great at giving advice and understanding struggles that students may be facing and will always help you overcome them

Mike's an awesome professor. He cares abt his students & wants them to do well. The only downside to taking a class with him is that he takes forever to grade anything. Very lenient with grading, but there are daily quizzes abt the readings. He doesn't make u buy a textbook and will help u through any questions you have. One of my best professors.

I changed my major to philosophy after taking this course with professor Mike. He LOVE to see you engage with the class. Yes, you have weekly reading quizzes but they're open note, so are the exams!!! I'd retake this course in a heartbeat.
