Great Prof. who knows his stuff! recommend his classes!
smartest finance prof, very helpful
He is so smart. He has the power.
Very smart. Extremely good teacher that wears short sleeves all year round
#1 Finance professor at the school by FAR!!
the best finance instructor in this school
helpful
had for a substitute and he confused the WHOLE class when teaching WACC!!!!!
Hard course, easy exam if u jst follow his notes.
Very Hard. However very good teacher.

best prof in finance, teaches hard classes, that's why people think he is hard, but is very smart, great prof.
The smartest prof in the school. The exam and midterm is very easy if you just look at his note.

HE is one of the best professros in Ryerson, and he is sooooooooo helpful..he helps so much in assignments and problem set..and i actually find him very hot...
Excellent teacher that is very helpful!
very nice, helpful, very knowlegable. tests are kind of hard but he will help you out. bell curve is your new best friend. i would take classes with him again.
Hard marker. Really rushes through the material. If you wanna pass then learn the stuff before class cuz he'll just run through things and not finish questions that he started.
Good prof dont bother reading the text just do what he says
This professor was wicked. You can tell he really knows what he's doing and doesnt make the course insanely complex. Helpful too
Knows what he's talking about. Great to have teach a finance course. If there were only more like Mike!
Since this is his first time teaching this class, why in the world would he make the class soooo hard?! It says no where in the course outline that we need to know Visual Basic! His notes will not help you on any of the assignments.
The final was so hard.It was probably meant for MBA or PhD students in finance.Hard teacher
Assumes you know everything to finance
very hard tests.
I have no clue why this man would get good ratings. He's horrible!! Expects us to all finance terminology from the back of our a$$'s.
very nice guy, wants his students to learn. go to office hours.
I had this guys once, and confused the heck out of me when I would ask questions. Very high on himself but is a decent guy outside of class. I wouldn't recommend him if you don't listen well and don't want to learn on your own
Talked to him a few times, nice guy. Good teaching methods, but wife was having baby, had T.A teach a few classes, "crazy steve". I think he was more concerned about his wife then the class, which i understand but i still dont like finance!
He goes way too quick and doesn't write clearly and when asked to write neater tells the class to "deal with it". He specifically told the class we would have to teach ourselves. If I knew that from the begining, I would have taken a Net course
He goes too fast! At one time we were behind in the course and then just zoomed through everything! Doesnt want students to contact him by e-mail, telephone, and I though University was all about interaction? What a croc!
Teaches too fast. His writing is horrible and most of the time unreadable. Needs to start answer questions, cuz what the point of asking "ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS?" if ur not gonna answer them...
Mike is a nice guy and teaches whenever he gets the chance but its his wife that does jack, no one knows what is going on the classes especially in the trading sessions. Probably only like 10 people in our classes knows exactly what's going on. Mike keep up the good work when you can.
Hard to understand. He doesn't hand back mark on time , you have to wait for 2-3 weeks to get back your mark. No e-mail , no office hours , he is not helpful at all!
What a joke of a professor. His teaching abilities aside, he is so darn lazy. You can't contact him by email, he has no office hours. It is purlly disgusting.

I did okay in the class but I could have done much better if I didnt have to teach myself everything. Good luck reading his writing. And forget trying to learn from the texts, because he only teaches random parts of it.
Most aweful prof ever in the history of ryerson mankind, in fact all of uni's put together. Suggestion: Take it in summer school or avoid him for god sakes
Professor Inglis was a good instructor when it came to conveying the course material during lectures. I found his notes to be clear, concise, and he provided good examples of possible test questions. The midterm and final exam were challenging but fair. The problem sets were tough. Work hard.
This course was mismanaged from day 1. He specifically told students not to contact him unless they make an appointment through a TA, who were equally unhelpful. They didnt even show up to the help sessions. I'd avoid this prof if your grade matters to you
Class is difficult to teach in a class of 1,000 students. Professor attempted to teach to the best of his ability given the circumstances. Course material too difficult for the environment of the Ryerson Theatre. Tutorials don't allow time for students' questions to be answered.
tutorials were horrible cause none of the TAs actually KNEW THEIR STUFF!! and prof wasn't clear most of the time.. didnt even seem like he was 'into' teaching.. just rushed thru.
very unorganized, extremely hard test, make sure thatu take 711 and 801 at the same time because he likes to test u on stuff from both classes even though some people did take both classes at the same time. never answers emails or phone calls. i would never take any classes with him again.good luck
I basically had to teach myself the entire course. The examples he provided during lectures were useful, but very unorganized. The tutorials were not helpful at all, and the TA's did not seem like they knew what they were doing.
HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!
he's an @$$hole, but take good notes during the lecture and you will be set for an easy A.
He is a bad prof. He does not care at all about the students, not allowing us to contact him via email or phone. The only way we are allowed to speak with him is at the class. Good lectures but the midterm didnt reflect what we learned in class. I do not recommend him to anyone.
Horrible professor. Does not help students, nor does he give exams that reflect the course
Nice guy out of class. May seem to be high on himself but cmon give the guy a break he's got a Ph.d and has done the CFA!! He's knows what he's doing and is at times not clear but ask questions he'll listen and try his best to answer you. Its better if you get him as a prof than his wife
Awful...simply awful...so is his handwriting.
Great prof.. Know's what he's talking about..
Inglis is a pretty good professor. His lectures are worthwhile because he has some really excellent powerpoint notes. He was hard to access at times, but on the whole he was a fair professor. The midterm and exams are very fair but one must be prepared for them. The problem sets were challenging.
he didn't know much about Excel, but his cases made sense when we were struggling with it. learned a lot of cool stuff that you'll always read in books. this course teaches you the tech part of financial models
i had him and ended up with a pretty good mark. not a bad teacher. pay attention to what he says, do the questions and study like crazy using examples and questions and a good mark is actually possible
He knows his material very well.. Sucks at math though... Not a bad prof. A bit "mellow" and goes waaaaaaay too fast at his lectures... Not a bad guy, but he just thinks we all come to his class with Degrees in Mathematics...
Hilarious!!!!! This guy was gonna wear his wife's dress to class, if we raised money for FoodDrive... Very enthusiastic, and tries to help as much as he could... Its not his fault Finance is cracked!
This guy is funny, and tries to help (especially after half of his class failed the midterm). He knows his material very well, and never keeps the class bored (although its finance!!).. His notes are THE most helpful thing in the class
He's a pretty good professor. He's funny, but he seems like he's usually nervous while teaching, which is probably why he starts out slow, but then speeds up halfway through the lecture. He's more than willing to slow down though, so don't be afraid to ask him to. I wouldn't complain if I had him as a professor again.
You got to be his wife to get an A+ for this course.
I liked how Mike taught FIN601. Even though he seems lost, his notes are usually helpfull in answering many of the problem set questions. For his tests he usually gives similar questions to his problem sets and from previous test. So if you can, try to find some of his old test, they help alot.
Mike did a wonderful time teaching this course, he was very good at making finance sound interesting. his midterm was hard, only if you havent prepared. you must work in this course no just with mike, but all the profs. Choose mike though, and you wont regret it.
The way Mike teaches is that he keeps putting stuff on the board and u keep copying. notes are helpful but he loves the materials and he can keep teaching it for 3 hours straight literally, leaving us with no time to absorb the stuff. Other than that, he's a very good prof, tests are just tricky, they make u think but they are not hard at all.
This class requires a lot of dedication. Most of Mike's material is very helpful but the tricky thing is, his tests are always one level above what he teaches. In order to do really well, you would need to know your stuff inside and out. The 2 problem sets will help you pass the course, dont drop even though you did poorly on the mid-term!!
I have to say, i fell in LOVE with Mike in FIN300. He is an awesome teacher, as long as you like learning through examples. If you sit near the front of the class, you can pretty much have it revolve around you and YOUR needs.. i highly recommmend it. Mike is a really nice guy, he really wants his students to LEARN the material, not just spite #s
He is better than his wife!
Best prof for a tough course.
take him. even if my ratings aren't favorable. YOU WILL for sure learn something in his class. one of the FEW good profs. at Ryerson. :)
if you expect him to do miracles he cant. he is very knowledgable, and is a good teacher, in that he tells you what you need ot know in a very simple way. emphasizes on problem solving which is great. make sure you go to lectures and take notes and undesrtand everything right there. it makes your life a lot easier. if you have questions go to him h
If you decide to study an hour a week, take another professor. Otherwise, if you are dedicated to learning, take Mike. He's knowledgeable, funny, and very helpful. I ended up with an A+ (90% and over). You don't have to read the textbook, because his handouts are more helpful and directly apply to the midterm and final. One of my fav profs.
Who doesn't love Mike! He's hillarious. Expects you to figure you own Algebra out, but hey this is University! If you need your hand held take the course with his wife, Anne. She's a bit better at explaining things and has more patients.
Great prof to have for such a difficult class. He's clear and concise, but he can be a bit fast sometimes. not to worry though.. he'll help you if you need it :) .
Really funny and knowledgeable. The course is lots of work but I liked how the course is designed (labs and problem sets) so one can absorb the info in increments. The instructor has a great way of presenting the concepts in a down-to-earth and realistic manner.
Good teacher. Funny. However if you don't know that material, trust me you will be lost. If you study and do your homework, tutorial, problem set. You have a better understanding.
He's all about the math!! Doesn't dwell a lot on how/what/why theory - so READ the textbook! Try to sit up front. He does talk fast so pay attention! Very funny! Helpful and easy to talk to after class.
Finance is heavy in math so I hated this course with a passion. That being said, he tried to make it a little interesting and he is a fair prof when it comes to the test & final exam (Micheal Chung is worse). Also, very helpful when asked questions in class, don't email him though, he won't respond. Overall, a good professor, but only during class.
Best prof for FIN300.....good guy, very knowledgeable.....TAs were of little help for problem sets.....easy class if you put in the effort.....I got an easy A+
overall good prof... knows his stuff and is a good teacher!!!
I liked Mike, 300 is such a hard course....and his slides and examples were very easy to follow and very helpful. He is also fair in marking. Moreover, he doesn't long stretch his classes if he doesn't have to. You just need to print out the slides, follow his notes on the projector....and your good. I liked him
Not the easiest off teachers... but not the toughest either. Course can be difficult it you don't like showing up with powerpoint slides printed off ready to copy he notes. Didn't put in much effort for either the final or midterm. Still pulling a B- in the class. I'll take it
good guy.. clearly bell curved the course.. i think i ended up about 12% higher than i earned. really good lectures, he's kinda arrogant, but meh, he can be if he wants.. he's smart enough...
Probably the best profs out of all the fin300 courses. His exams are hard, but he does teach the material well.
Tough and dry but you can get through it if you go to class and listen to him. Cuts pretty straight and to the point.
Tough course. However the best profs. I learned most of the material in class with his teaching. Midterm not bad. The final was hard all stocks and bonds.
Very good prof. Teaches through example questions which is very helpful. Makes sure everyone gets it before he moves on. Midterm/final isn't easy but is all MC, which helps. Highly recommend him.
Tough course, but the best prof for the course compared to Anderson. Is helpful if you go and see him. Go to all the labs and do Lyryx and you'll be fine.
Test and the Final were easy.
Great prof. want an A? Go to every class... go to tutorials... do the lyryx.. do the problem sets.. do the back of the book questions like 10 or 15.. get an A :)
Be prepaired to work for your grade in this class. Finance is a very difficult regardless of the teacher. Mike is a good teacher however you are expected to do your part to pass the course. You just cant show up to lectures, sit in the back and expect to pass. My advice is to take him because he is the one who writes the final. know the beast
Great Prof, crystal clear. Easy course if you put in the work required (which is not unreasonable). Performance is directly related to effort.
Lectures are very rushed, packed with material & somewhat confusing. Most of his equations are different from the textbook & he complicates things by devising equations for no reason. It's essential to keep up with h/w, do well on assignments & do Lyryx labs to do well in this class. Exams are tough, but it forces you to learn the material.
One of the best prof in finance. essential to keep up with material. dont be afraid to ask question or use his office hours. Tests are tricky but dont drop the course even though you did poorly on the midterm.
remember the dude from the micro machines commercials? Inglis speaks almost as fast as him in lectures...hit the textbook hard and do the practice questions as much as you can
his lecutres are so helpfull. I didnt even use the text book. You can ask him any thing and he gladly answers. One of the best lectures i have every been in.
Go to all his lectures, do your lyryx, tutotial sets, and problem sets, and you will be fine. Easy to understand
Tricky subject/course but Mike is a great Prof. His slides and sample questions are a big help and he is very helpful and nice when you go to his office hours. He is a decent and fair Prof. he gives genuinely good advice at the start of the term. Make sure to go to the tutorials, do the Laryx Lab and Problem Sets and you will be fine.
Inglis is a great teacher! Uses a projector and is clear when going over problems. Does review for midterm and finals, which is helpful! Its a finance course so you must practice, the only way you will do well. Those who rate this prof bad obviously did not study. Study and go to class and get an A. This from a finance major, he is one of the best!
great prof, must go to class he explains what will be on the tests and final and what to know. does so many inclass problems, and explaisn so well. You will definitly pass teh course with him but you have to do the questions in the text. he writes both the midterm and final
I thought he did a great job explaining how to solve problems. Gave clear clues on what to study. You'll do great if you are serious.
Hes as real as they come
A great Prof - very knowledgeable. Goes over many problems step by step - if you take all of his notes - you will have the road map to the solution for ANY question you might be asked on a test. Sometimes gets a little too into deriving formulas - can be a little hard to know what is MOST important. A little light on theory. Overall: excellent.
Good finance prof. His class average was 60% for midterm, while everyone else's was 40%. Uses slides and makes concepts somewhat understandable (finance is still hard). In the end, I KNOW he bumped our final marks! Nice guy though. Anderson's students come to Inglis' class instead! Midterm was exactly like the practice one he gave us! TAKE HIM!
Great prof! He explains the concepts clearly, does a lot of problems in class and prepares students for the midterm and the final. So far one of my favorite professors.
Not a hard course, but Mike just makes it difficult. A 60% midterm average was a "good job" from his view, whereas Blinders midterm average was low 80's? Long and tedious quizzes and EXTREMELY hard exams! CFA level questions for an "Applied" Investments class. I hope I can get through w/ a C!
one of the best FIN profs i have ever had, explains everything you need to know in class. focus on his lectures. online quizzes are basically free marks, they are long but you have so much time and if you ask him he will help you. they are also his main questions on the tests! so make sure you know them. would take anything with him again.
Not the easiest course as it covers a lot of different things. Mike's tests and exams aren't bad as long as you practice the textbook problems and make a good cheat sheet for the complicated stuff. If you can teach yourself don't bother going to class. Just do the textbook and assignment problems and you'll be fine.
Honestly, FIN300 isn't a fun course. Mike tries to make it fun - he cracks some jokes here and there. I've heard that he's definitely one of the better Finance profs at Ryerson, if not the best for FIN300. I like his teaching style - he basically goes through problems in class. If you know those and do your practice questions, you'll be fine.
1st understand that regardless of who is teaching, its a tough course which requires a lot of studying & practice. Now,he is the BEST prof in my view.Print his slides and you are good to go. It only gets annoying when he starts showing off how he can drive the equation(which we dont need to know).Otherwise, explains excellently.TAKE HIM !!!
Read the textbook, do the questions, read the slides as review, DO the sample midterm and final. The first half of the course is the easiest and most important (TVM and Bonds). Course is hard but teacher is prob easier than others. Any course at this level with so many students is not going to have a useful teacher, it just isn't possible.
No finance course is great and i dont find many of the profs to be great either. With that said i think that Inglis is one of the better finance profs. My advice: go to class, do textbook questions and go over the practice exams.
Truly enjoyed the course, The course is hard but there are very few profs like Mike who puts in all the efforts if you want to learn. Very approachable..would take any hard course with him.AMAZING!!
Pay close attention because his writing is chicken scratch. His midterm was very straightforward. He didn't do a good job teaching the last couple of chapters and didn't write the final exam.
I took 300 and 611 with him. He is an awesome prof very helpful and clear. 300 is easy, but 611 (short term securities) avoid!! not because of Inglis, just in general a VERY tought class. Class ave for exam was 46%! So, great prof, but avoid 611
hes amazing - he does all relevent examples, and actually tries to make you understand what hes doing. i dont think theres a better finance prof at ryerson. AND he bellcurves might just save your ass in the end! Go to his class, take notes, pay attention, and youll do well on the tests.
Professor Inglis is knowledgeable at Ryerson, Go to his class practice the problems in the textbook and don't leave studying to the last minute, the midterm was challenging but he bell curved. The final was brutal but if you study really hard its durable. The final is a standardized exam so if you take another prof you're screwed in the end.
very knowledgeable in terms of his field and industry. His notes can be difficult to follow and he goes through concepts fairly quickly. If you take him, prepare well in advance before the mid-term and the final. I recommend even going to see a tutor or join a study group in order to coordinate more effectively on the course material.
Pretty good prof. Class goes a bit fast but you should be able to follow through. He is a bit hard, but if you practice the questions you will do fine.
Mike's a great prof, students like to give negative reviews because it can be a tough subject or they don't do the work required to get a good grade. Got an A with moderate effort, make sure you understand the powerpoints and do the questions in the textbook.
Mike is an amazing prof when it comes to explaining the concepts and going over the quantitative questions. Instead of reading off the useless textbook slides he makes his own which have many examples useful for the tests. Finance is a tough subject, but Mike makes sure to go through everything and is the best finance prof at Ryerson by far.
Not the easiest course, Mike makes it worst.rushes thru the material. Gives time consuming quizzes. limited time for long questions. As a person, he's pretty cool. He's very helpful if you find him available in his office, which is rare. Take this course if u want to take CFA, or enjoy risk management, otherwise, stay away. GPA killer!
Mike is amazing. Tough course, he makes it harder by deriving all formulae, however if you're taking the course to learn something (not just to pass) he is the best guy to take. Especially important that you take him if you're a finance/accounting major as he makes you understand all formulae which will help you a lot in all other finance courses.
Hands down the best prof for finance. His notes are extremely good and helpful. The tests are fair. Got an A :)
Inglis is a helpful prof. Go to class, follow his examples, do previous midterms/exams, and do homework every week and you'll end up with a high grade. Got an A+. Figure out the calculator by googling it, and it'll help you on the exam/midterm
Amazing prof. Uses his own slides, explain materials in a crystal clear manner, provides great examples, overall great prof. Highly recommended
Excellent teacher. Explains concepts well and makes them easier to understand. He does go a little too fast in lectures sometimes. However, I still highly recommend him.
Just read his slides and make sure you understand the content. The course itself is a lot of work and very hard to do really well on. Professor teaches better than any other Finance professor at Ryerson but goes a bit too fast for my liking.
very easy professor even the students that didnt study that much did well. Bird course fo sure.
He bell curves like crazy. Practice the testbanks and his in class hints!
The midterm for this course was dreadful...Practice midterms dont help prepare you at all. This is coming from a finance major who has made the deans list. Good luck.
horrible at FIN 631. goes way too fast and talks quickly as if he is assuming that students already know every single thing.
Exam was brutal. Up to the exam there was a large cushion coming into the exam, probably class average was around 80 percent or so. And then majority of students failed the final which is poorly made, so he ended up bell curving us around 20-30%. So overall it's around 70% class average. Smart prof, but doesn't seem to care a lot for students.
I like him as a professor to be honest: you need to know your stuff to be able to manage the models and I think that's the only reason people did so poorly, because they didn't know the math side of the course (which is not taught). I would recommend taking this in 4th year, not 3rd year.
Go to class, follow along with his models, do the assignments. Don't buy the textbook.
He knows his stuff, did examples pretty quick so you have to follow along at his pace. He made the class pretty interesting
Really difficult course and he doesn't know exactly what he's doing in terms of teaching. He teaches basics and then you have to apply that to super complicated models. The midterm was brutal.
Teaches simple, then expects you to apply it to complex financial models. Even if you get it somehow running, you have no idea what all of this means. He has terrible time management too.
Brutal final exam for FIN731 -- don't take this course if he's teaching it. He HAS to curve his Fin. Mod. classes because the exams are too difficult/content to varied.
Difficult course but do your work, do the assignments. He makes effort to help students as much as he can. Pay attention, don't miss class - if you do then you're screwed
I liked his lecture notes and how he is very organized. Always print the powerpoints 3-6 to a page. The assignments were very similar what we did in class and what we did on the exams. In the beginning you are like "WTH is going on?" but you will get use to his fast talking.
Clearly explains concepts and processes to get the right answer. Go to class and practice with questions.
I love this class for the excel tools but by no means is this an easy class. The assignments take time to get through but very important to do (I suggest independently rather than group) to be better prepared for the final, completed models are posted which helps. He's a nice guy and knows his stuff, you really need to keep up with the material!
Very knowledgeable guy, however he goes really fast through the models. Really hard to keep up. Assignments are long and take time but they are a great exercise for the midtermfinal.
Tough class, that teaches you to much, that's to hard to learn in to short of a period. Mike is super smart but it's hard to keep up with him. You will be a master in excel after this class.
Great Prof, this guy is a genius This Prof looks like hes gonna destroy you; and nice at the same time. He is very good at teaching, he is very clear and goes over examples. His examinations and quizzes for fin611 fixed income are very reasonable. I would even say his midterms are easy You must attend every class and keep up with the readings
While this is a very hard course but people seem to forget one thing. This is a FOURTH year finance course. If your are not spending at least 10 hours outside of class you deserve to fail or get a bad mark. I love how many bad reviews there are but I bet these people don't spend more then 5 hours outside class practicing. Lazy people will fail :D
An amazing prof, just the content is fairly bland. Tests are easy if you attend class, also remember to do the practice midterms.
Good guy and very helpful. Incredibly hard course, too much material, assignments were above average difficulty. Tests were brutal, this coming from a A CGPA student in the final semester at Rye. Practice midterm posted post-midterm has little to no correlation to the Final. (Not sure what the student below is talking about). A BG in VBA is a MUST!
Mike seems like a nice guy at first, but when it came to the midterm, none of his questions were related to what he taught us.. He would give us 5 questions that were super easy and the rest of the 25 questions were tough as hell. Be sure to read bc he goes through things so fast. He doesn't teach you how to use the calc & expects u to use formulas
One of the few professors who will show you how to use the calculator (not for everything). He makes his own slides which will teach you the basics, but you really need to put in effort to pass. His tests are brutal, but surprisingly no one failed his final. He also allowed us to have 2 page crib sheets opposed to 1. Teaches what you need to know.
This course was moderately hard, but the prof does the best he can to help you. He is nice and tries to not drag lectures longer than they need to be. Read the textbook and do the practice tests and you will be fine
70% weekly assignments, 10 each. Hectic but doable; you may sometimes pull out your hair in frustration :) 30% final was insane,no sample exam file like we had for 631. Do ANY bonuses he offers to make up for final. Marks aside, this course was an amazing learning experience. He left us with a lot of excel/vba models and tools that we can build on.
Mike was my favourite Professor at Ryerson (Fin 631/731 & 611). He knows his stuff inside out and if you ask the right questions he is happy to help you out. He gives so many free marks with bonus assignments it's pretty difficult to get less than an A- in any of his classes. Do the work and you'll probably have an A+ or better going into the exam.
He relies mainly on his own slides, and examples worked out during lecture, so the textbook is barely used. He gives tons of bonus assignments that are worth 1% each, really help out with your grade. The midterm and final are difficult, a little different from lectures. Lyryx help out as well. Overall good professor.
Awesome Prof. You can go in the EXAM with 70%+ marks. It impossible to fail.
tough course, really knows his material, if you do the questions for each chapter you should pass
It can be difficult to understand what he's saying in class. He mumbles a lot. Need to do the textbook practice questions to prepare for tests. There is also Lyryx (weekly online homework)
He gives assignment that clearly reflects the material taught in class, the assignment needs to be done with other studnets in class if one wishes to succeed well in class, he knows the program being taught extremely well and is definitely approachable but class can fly by very fast and catching up can be hard to do
He mumbles and talks pretty fast, BUT he explains the concepts in a way for you to actually understand them, not just to memorize them. Come to class, sit in the front, follow along with his provided slides, take notes, go home and do practice questions in the book - you'll be set.
Good guy in general but doesnt really annunciate well during class and is really hard to hear. Exams are rather difficult and doesnt really teach the calculator way of doing problems
inglis dunno how to explain things. never did any weekly assignments and got 100%. got someone to send me their assignment, blessss! TA gives everyone 100% even if u hand in the same thing because they dun check the ans and code. submitted a random code caz we dunno wat to do and got 100% as well
By far the best finance prof in Ryerson.
Michael is a really good finance professor, he really cares for the students and gives out bonus homework question for you to gain 1% here and there. He gives about 5-6 bonus HW so take advantage of that. The lecture is dry but you'll need to go to Lec to understand the material and the examples he does is key. GO TO LECTURE if you want to pass!!!!
I took this course during the Spring with Mike. He gives at least 6-7 1% bonus assignments that really help. You have to attend his lectures to do well in his course. He goes through specific examples step by step. For both my midterm and final, Mike bell curved everyone's grade so it is higher.
The course itself is a lot of work because you have an excel assignment every single week, but he's very helpful with the assignments if you ask him for help during class times and during his office hours. Pretty easy course if you put the work in. There was a 2% bonus mark for filling out a survey and a 5% bonus mark for having a bloomberg certifi
Great prof and great class. Would highly recommend
Not interested in finance and never will be but Mike was a good prof. His personalized slides made it easy to understand the concepts (instead of the usual textbook slides). Made the course applicable to the real world. IMO you have to practice to actually get a good grade in FIN 300 no matter which prof you get.
Mike's lectures were very hard to grasp as he will go through the material very quickly skipping some key fundamentals. Nevertheless, its important to read/ practise the chapters regularly in order to do well. He gives bonus assignments and bell curves which is a plus!
He's a decent prof and teaches well that is easy to understand, his tests and final aren't hard as long as you do the practice questions in the textbook. Decent prof and definitely recommend.
Prof Inglis is a great prof and teaches well to all the students. His practice tests, textbook practice questions, and group project questions are very similar to the midterm and final. Just practice and work hard in his class and you'll do well.
He's a pretty decent prof and teaches well. Do the practice questions he posts on d2l and you will do fine in his class.
Even though there's lots of work in this course, prof teaches really good and marks fairly.
Seriously the best prof at Ryerson, hands down to take him for any course! He's your man. Teaches the concepts very well and sets his students for success.
I took FIN401 once before and dropped it as I was not prepared for the course material. This time was much better around. The Finance Labs are worth 20% of your mark and you should be able to get 100% fairly easily on them. Mike goes through each equation with you and makes difficult formulas seem easy. Bonus marks homework is sometimes assigned.
Amazing prof, takes an extra mile to explain all concepts. Teaches excel material well so just practice and you'll do great.
Michael is the best prof if you want a good grade. Its not hard and you actually learn. You have to go to class because his weekly assignments are based on in-class work. Theres a bonus if you have your BB certificate. Assignments can get difficult but if you ask him how to do it in class, he will tell you. Final is hard but its only 20% so easy A.
Not an easy course, but this prof makes it bearable and enjoyable for the class. Hands down the best finance professor ever.
Overall a good choice for FIN401. Mike really knows his stuff, his teaching style is either you get it or you dont (I didn't) but he makes up for it by writing super straight forward tests. This class sucks no matter what, so just grind through and you'll be fine. Inglis is a good prof for this hard course. Good luck!
Mike is an ok professor. he gives bonus assignments throughout the semester to help boost ur grade up. The exams I found to be extremely challenging. Go to his class and sit in the front rows because he's monotone and basically whispers. Nothing exceptionally and or good about him. The course is very challenging and I hated it but u can do it!
He's a decent prof but is really difficult to understand as he mumbles and speaks softly. Sit in the front sections of class to understand and hear him. Midterm and Final were difficult and be sure to do the practice examples he does in class as well as textbook questions. Bonus assignments are provided for a chance to boost your grade.
Mike is an amazing professor!!!! So chill and helpful, you learn material that's actually relevant and useful. There's a group project and if you don't have a good group this could hurt your grade. However, the weekly quizzes and assignments that are based on the video lectures are pretty easy. There's also a bonus assignment for extra marks.
Modelling isn't for everyone and Mike makes it pretty easy to do well with an assignment and quiz every week. Get a group of friends to help each other though cause some assignments are long and tough (something he recommends). The quizzes are surprisingly hard but only worth 1% each (at least for my year). All and all would recommend
Awesome prof! Assignments aren't super hard as long as you keep up with the weekly quizzes and videos.
His tests and quizzes are never from material that we are taught. This prof doesn't even follow what the rest of the profs are doing and makes things 10x more harder than other classes.
He is not a bad guy at all. I did not find him to be rude at all, however his teaching style was not very effective for an online course. His quizzes and exams did not necessarily cover much of the content learned in the actual lectures, you have to learn more of it by yourself. He is considerate however, he bell curved our midterm marks.
A great professor who was exceptional when it came to teaching and realizing how students are coping with the pandemic. He does not take away a lot of narks if you are a day or two late like max 10% but is understanding if you don't normally hand it in late. The final is difficult but overall great prof. Need more profs like Michael.
I think he is a great prof. Very nice and helpful
Good experience overall
Excel can be annoying to navigate but I find that Prof. Inglis is good at giving clear guidelines for students to follow. He also tends to answer questions fairly well and gives clear expectations of what he wants to be completed on his assignments. Great class and prof to take if you are looking to get a Finance Minor.
To be honest, he is a good professor and a nice guy. He will give you tons of opportunities to get bonus marks but after taking 3 courses with him, I will say, his courses are a lot of work on a weekly basis. Lots and Lots of work to do but in terms of grading, hes very good. Unless its a numerical question, a decent amount of work is enough.
While the workload can be heavy, Prof. Inglis is an excellent instructor. Lectures are engaging, and he's always willing to clarify concepts. Using unstuckstudy and the free textbook made studying a breeze. Definitely recommend this class.
Great Professor, his lectures are easy to follow along and understand. He has them posted so you can always go back to them whenever. There were weekly assignments and quizzes, but they were easy to complete if you watched his videos. Not hard to get an A+.
Easy course if you are good at excel. All classes are online, no attendance, no group assignment. Weekly assignments are not really easy but if you spend time you can always receive full grade.
