He is such a wonderful prof!! I had no proublems asking him questions, and the only time he does get upset is when students come into class late, talking, and not paying attention. He reminds them that it is a college class. I totally agree with it, this is not high school, some need to be reminded

Animated, passionate, FUN teacher...challenging class. Not easy to get an A, but you will learn a lot. One of the best teachers I've had at MCC. If you don't like to be challenged and treated as a college student, do not take this class.It is NOT an easy A. Knows his stuff and loves what he does.

Excellent teacher. Helpful, encouraging..does not accept anything less than your best, so if you aren't willing to work for it, don't take this class. It is NOT an easy A, but well worth the trouble. The only grade I've ever felt I earned.

Kinda scary when he gets mad, so don't make him mad. But hes funny and very smart. He helped me with my essay when I went to see him and hes easy to talk to. Dont plagiarize or hell fail you for the class, buyt I guess you deserve it if you do. Always seems willing to help. A great prof.

Best English teacher in the department hands down. Made 102 a blast so I took him for 200 and it's even better. I highly recommend him to anyone.

mike is a really great teacher. he made class fun & you can tell he wants his students to succeed. he is one of the best english teachers i've ever had & i've had some pretty amazing english teachers.

Mr. Johnson is first-rate; this class made me glad to be back in college. He cares about his students, works you hard, but helps you every step of the way. He loves to talk, but I like to listen, so that worked out fine. And if you listen, you;ll learn a lot. Take his classes and you'll be glad you did.

GREAT professor, one of my favs @ MCC. He taught me a lot, not just about English, but general knowledge as well. Take him for ENG 101 and you WILL be a better writer because of it. He is super fun and nice. Once in a while has temper tantrum, but definitely worth it. Highly recommend!

This class is all about reading novels which I am sooooo not into, but I took it because it fit my time schedule. I only read one of the three books and still got an A! his lectures are so good and offer so much information I didn't need to read the books. 3 Papers, 2 Tests, and a few good movies make up the class.

I took Mr. Johnson for 101 and 102. He is great!! I do not like english and passed both classes with an A. His lectures are involved and very interesting, not to mention he is hilarious! He's an awesome teacher and I would recommend him to anyone!!

One of THE best professors (if not the best) that I have ever had; I sometimes just look around the room at the other students and enjoy how involved they are. Everyone interacts, laughs, and sincerely enjoys listening to him talk. He is funny and knowledgeable and his classes are amazing learning experiences. Will miss him at GVSU!

I had Mike for both 200 and 211 and he is great. He talks a lot but he knows and sets time for class discussion. If you have the chance, take his mythology class, it was so much fun

AWESOME TEACHER AND CLASS! By far my favorite teacher so far at MCC. His lectures are hilarious and makes you think farther than what first pops into your mind. The papers and tests are VERY easy and gives you a lot of time to write/study. Always VERY willing to help. TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU CAN, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

Took Eng 102 and Eng 211 with Johnson. One of the best professors at MCC. Engages students in his lectures and never makes you feel stupid for asking questions. He's funny and witty. If you're good at writing then I definitely recommend.

Very attentive to students, he really knows how to make you interested in the subject matter. It's a fairly easy class on the surface level, but he makes you think. Don't be late, you may not realize it at first but it makes him mad. Overall super interesting, I would totally take another class with him for sure.

Hilarious! Extremely enthusiastic and very compassionate about his students. I was going through a rough couple of weeks at the end of the semster and he was very understanding and accepting of late work. Definitely a great teacher, would recommend.

Probably the most passionate lectures I've sat through. He not only knows what he is talking about but you can tell he actually loves what he's saying. He's funny, laid back, all he asks in return is for his students to be engaged. There is a lot of reading, but it comes with the territory and he doesn't give out busy work.

I really enjoyed his class. It was worth the 12 weeks of being there. If you didn't read the book it's okay because you'll talk about in group discussions. Showing up to class is a good idea bc he'll basically give you answers for papers you'll write. Down side: no blackboard so you won't know your current grade.

I learned so much from Michael Johnson! ENG102 was a great class to have first thing in the morning, because his lectures were relevant and funny. He's clear on his expectations, and is a great communicator. He knows everything! And he wants you to know more, too. From him, I learned better analysis and thought processes. Take his classes.

Mr. Johnson is by far the best professor I've had! He makes lectures fun and gets everyone involved! He uses comedy to get the class to understand certain topics and I found myself laughing the entire class. I love the way tests and essays were set up! You have to attend class and you have to do the work. If you do he'll help you succeed. Obviously cares about his students. Loves what he does but he expects you to love it too. Don't take if you aren't ready for college. Good sense of humor but he won't hold your hand.

He is all in all a good professor, funny and seems to really care. He doesn't keep up with blackboard so you don't really know what your grade is. The papers are sort of difficult, you have to analyze short stories, poems, theater scripts, and a movie. But he is accessible outside of class and will help if you ask.

He won't go easy on you, but you'll enjoy it the whole time. His lectures are like a religious experience. But beware. You WILL have to work for the grade that you want. Prepare to buckle down on the papers. He grades them for their worth. If you're are worried your essay isn't up to par, GO MEET WITH HIM. He will tell you what needs to be changed.

Great professor! He definitely cares about the content he teaches as well as his students! He definitely makes you work for your grade, but if you're struggling, as long as you reach out he is willing to help. Communication is key. As someone who struggled with personal issues through the semester, I can tell you that he is very accommodating!

You have to write essays just like a normal English class but he helps so much, and you take baby steps to get there. Overall the best English teacher I have had and is so nice!

Mr. J is so clearly invested in his student's success. He is super accessible outside of class and very accomodating. By far the BEST professor I have had at MCC. His lecture style is hilarious and captivating and makes coming to class fun. It is clear that he is passionate about what he teaches. 1000/10 would recommend for English lovers.

Don't hesitate to ask him questions. He is more than willing to help you and will get you on the right track.

Mike Johnson made literature feel enjoyable in ENG-102. Being able to piece information together used to be difficult for me, but this class strengthened my ability to do so, especially in poetry. I was also happy to relate to some of the characters in the work, and I feel that we were encouraged to relate as well. Very beneficial.

He is funny and interesting, but he grades hard. He pays attention to details so don't take if you can't proofread or else get help. Also you have to attend - he doesn't offer zoom options so you have to be there. But he is very understanding and will help you succeed if you show him you will work hard. Definitely college, not high school.

Mr. Johnson knows a lot about the material and his enthusiasm is infectious. I thought the reading load was difficult, but they were big books and I haven't really read this kind of Literature before. There was a good balance of discussion and lecture. I would definitely take another one of his classes. Stresses attendance and being on time.

Best thing is he lets you choose your own writing topics. He demands a lot. You need to turn in every stage of writing for every assignment so you can't just turn in a final draft but it makes you a better writer. Don't miss class or try to skip steps on essays or you won't pass! He really loves teaching writing so ask for help if you need it.

Professor Johnson is engaging and passionate about writing. While his class is challenging, he provides great support if you're willing to put in the work. Unstuck ai and the free textbook were really helpful for staying on top of the essays.

I enjoy the passion that he has for what he teaches and his lectures are fun to attend. I've heard from others that his 102 class is stricter for the essay process, but the process for 102 is not too bad. A lot of points comes from essays. Participation is necessary but not scary because he's very kind and easy to talk to.

This is a stereotypical English professor for sure, but in a good way. He is very passionate about the course material, engaging with students, and very understanding if you have personal issues going on outside of class. My only criticism is when you share with the class, you have to it out fast before he takes the conversation back over again.

I can get why other students love this class, but every time I come here for 2 hours all I can think is that it could have been an email. The only feeling I have when I'm here is that I'm wasting so much time when I could just do this at home.

He's a great teacher. I've always disliked my English teachers in high school so I went for Mr. Johnson since he was highly rated and I actually liked an English class for once. Attendance is worth a full essay grade, and there's 5 total essays. There's no official exam just take home essay. None of the classwork is graded but it's still fun to do.
