Koerner is not as horrible as the last person made him out to be. He only puts questions that you have already been exposed to, such as hw and lecture questions. However, this is over 100 questions. Too many to memorize. He is fast paced, but tries to help you find short cuts. I heard pollard is better, but if you'll survive if you take this class.

Great teacher. Really helpful and wants you to succeed. All questions that are on the test are from lecture, D2L, homework, and discussion. Tests are kind of long and seem to be difficult for a good portion of the class. But he curves. He makes sure that 20% have at least an A, 50% a B, and 80% a C. For the second test, A=78%, B=58%, and C=37%.

Dr. K kept the class interesting and tried to use different teaching methods for different learning styles. His tests come straight from the hw, lectures, d2l, and discussion. The tests are pretty tedious, but the curve is more than fair. You can tell he really cares about his students

I think that at one point in his life he might have been a Columbian drug lord, but he is a really good chem teacher and is really easy. If you pay attention in class you dont have to read the book, just do the hw problems, or you can skip class and just read the book. Either way, it all works out in the end.

He's a wonderful teacher. One of the few that actually cares about his student.

He makes sure youre ready for the tests by basically giving you the answers. He takes all of his questions from the hw, d2l, and lecture if you keep up with his lecture you'll def be prepared.

What everyone else said. If you went to class/discussions he almost shows you the test. There is alot of homework, but at least your not stuck studying for hours for whats not gonna be on the test. with him you know what is and what isn't

Anyway, Michael Koerner is a fantastic instructor, who makes class interesting, teaches you A LOT, but makes doing well very possible. He actually cares about the success of his students and is very approachable. Just don't get on his bad side by insulting him =)

Dr. K is an AMAZING prof. Quizzes and tests are a piece of cake if you go to class. No homework is a plus! He is really really helpful and always answers your questions. He will actually make time for you specifically. He's a really great guy.

You can hear the excitement in Dr.K's voice when he teaches. He also had the most interaction with students during off hours of any prof I have had. Dont expect to get more points on returned tests though.

One of the best professors that I've had so far. He explains everything he will test you on, gives a ton of examples, and is available to help students more than most professors. His tests are fairly long, so you have to know your stuff, but definitely take his class if you have the chance.

This guy will twist himself into a pretzel to help you. That said, don't expect a free ride. You will have to do your share of the work and earn your grade.

I had Dr. K for Gen Chem and found him arrogant and rude. I didn't understand most of what he did and class and he went very fast. That being said, as an Ochem professor I thought he was excellent! He counseled many students on how to succeed. He obviously wants you to succeed & does his best to make the class interesting & as clear as possible!

O-chem is not easy, but Dr K makes it interesting and provides pleanty of resources to understand the material. I had him for gen chem and did not enjoy his class, but for o-chem he is an excellent professor!

OChem is hard especially OChem II during summer. I didn't use or read textbook. I just attended to the lectures and did the worksheets and d2l quizzed and I aced OChem II in Dr K's summer class. He is awesome.

FEW profs care about their students like this guy, he drops an exam (prob 98% of the class enjoys, yet I didn't). 3 A level Qs per test, 1 hard one. Exams are straight forward. Do not miss class! You will get behind and it is hard to catch up, but not impossible. He has three helpers that will "help" you, but most of the time their preceptor hours are completely packed. But Koerner says that everyone is a "family" so he definitely wants to help you. Basically, show up to class, take good notes and do your online work.

I guess I'm in the minority but I did not find this class at all easy and I often found questions I did not expect on the tests and even after lots of studying didn't get the A's I wanted on those exams! This was my first B in college & I can't say why! I'm thinking he's still your best bet for a chem prof although I had much better in high school

Very entertaining, really cares. He starts off going really slow and steady on the easy stuff, but right when the material gets hard he starts to get very unclear and stops teaching as well. This is probably the only professor who deserves a perfect 5/5 rating. He is by far THE BEST professor I've ever had. I've now had him for gen chem as well as ochem and i am dumbfounded at a lot of the reviews he's been receiving. In my opinion to say he is a great teacher is foolish. His grading scheme and simplifications heavily favor the average student so as a result he's popular, but as a consequence a lot of information is lost in the translation.

D2L, lectures, and discussion are all musts. Don't lose easy points. Probably one of the better teachers at UofA. Takes the time to accommodate class needs. The grades received in this course is no way comparable to other professors. I doubt our class would do well on other prof's tests, but they would do fine with our tests. Great teacher still.

I had chem with Dr. K for both semesters, and believe me when I say he is the best chem professor on campus. Chem has always been my worst subject and I HATE it, but Dr. K is so patient and helpful and he makes the material very easy to understand. And if most of the class doesn't understand, he will go over it again until everyone does!

hilarious teacher, made going to ochem fun. the only problem is that he actually teaches, so he expects more out of you on his tests. he makes it seem really easy but then his tests are really hard. if you study 15+ hrs/week (like he recommends) you could get an A. i bet if you're smart it's easy too. very time consuming, but overall great teacher

Makes a lot of practice worksheets which are optional (they are very useful though and really help you study!) I ended up with a B, but as long as you attend class, rewrite your notes, do the practice tests and wksts, you'll do well!

He is by far one of the best teachers I have ever had. Super helpful. His goal in life is to have everyone pass his class. Clear on what he says, teaches in his own style, tells funny stories a lot. He is a wonderful teacher and you will be good at Ochem if you take him and pay attention.

Koerner is one of the best professors I've had since I've been at this school. He has a great personality, which makes the class enjoyable to be in, even though it is o chem. He makes sure everyone is clear on what he is teaching and doesn't move on until he is sure of this. His goal is really for everyone to pass

Dr. K made organic chemistry super fun and interesting. He shows videos and tells stories to help you remember the concepts. It's one of my favorite classes I've taken at UA so far. He is basically willing to do anything if it will help you learn the material. The material will still be hard,but definitely take o chem with Dr. Koerner if you can.

This class was difficult, but I enjoyed it. He cares about the success of his students and realizes that lecture takes a toll and breaks it up with funny stories and jokes. He lets you know in lecture exactly what you need to know for exams. I would suggest doing exactly what he tells you to do (doing quizzes and rewriting notes)in order to succeed

De. K is seriously one of the best teachers I have at U of A. He makes the class fun and makes you actually want to listen to him. His notes directly relate as to what will be on the test. He also gives you useful information for standardized test. One of the best O-Chem professors. I would recommend him to EVERYONE! Take him if you get a chance!!

Perfection in teaching form.

Excellent teacher. Knows his stuff very well and is very helpful. He tells funny stories to keep you refreshed and entertained. The only bad thing is that he jumps around the book, while other teachers do not so you may be behind on some things in second semester OCHEM if you take him (such as acids/bases), but you can get through it regardless.

DR. K CHANGED ME! :D I used to be a terrible test taker. I had so many underlying issues keeping me from doing well in the beginning and in all the hard classes before his. Now, studying comes easier for me, and the tests don't have me feeling so anxious anymore. THANK YOU DR K! Perfection in teaching style, I agree!

Sure, Dr. K teaches what he teaches well.Problem is, he doesn't teach HALF of what you're held accountable for from 1st semester ochem. Unless you KNOW you can take him second semester and don't have to use the stuff for anything afterwards, DO NOT take him. If you do- you're literally screwed. Annoyingly cocky man desperate for student approval.

I really enjoyed him as a teacher, his stories were always good for a laugh and helped break up the monotony that is organic chemistry. However, I did not appreciate the backhanded comments after tests, not everyone in the class is pre-med, and some students WILL get C's on the exams, a C is still excellent for this class, as it is not easy at all!

Dr. K is an awesome teacher. If you dont understand a synthesis mechanism he knows several other ways to teach you. He is a hilarious professor. He does everything he can to make sure you are getting the most out of his class. Its fairly easy to get a B you will need to study hard to get the A. Discussion sessions are also mandatory for passing.

Good teacher, makes it fun. It's like a class on "chemistry for dummies". You won't regret taking his course.

This is the best professor I have ever had. I came into this class scared to death of what was ahead of me. He really does everything he can do to keep you interested and understanding. I never once missed a class, and never thought of doing so because he made it so interesting and sometimes fun. TAKE HIS CLASS if you want to understand o chem!

Best Ochem professor on campus. Take him if you want ochem. He makes the class passable and gives every student the opportunity to do well, you just have to capitalize.

He is the best chemistry professor in the whole university!! very experienced in teaching...like he said, he can teach any kind of chemistry, and he has so many hilarious stories to tell which just makes the class great. He really tries to pass everyone too..unless you are lazy or just don't care..there is no way to fail the class.

Dr. K is one of the best professors if not the best I have ever had... the class is a hard class and you do have to put in the hours of study but if you put in the effort he will get you the grade and "walk you through the garden of O-Chem" he made the material easy to comprehend

Dr. K makes Ochem bearable. He's hilarious but he's also a fantastic teacher. He makes the concepts easy to understand. He makes it very possible (although not easy) to do well in his class. Take this class. For the sole reason that you will not dread going to class and watch the seconds tick by for an hour and fifteen minutes.

Had him for 241A & B, got A's in both. As with 241A, do the wkshts, memorize D2L q's, milk easy exams for pts, etc. Every point counts here. Did not find him approachable; he gears his class towards pre-health students. Felt like I didn't matter in the class because I'm not pre-health. Took both classes alone too, not w/ friends, which was tough.

Dr. K.is here to save the day. He will show you through the "garden of OCHEM" because he makes you part of TEAM Ochem. This will be a difficult class and you do need to study a lot, but Dr. K. can teach you how to be successful in OCHEM.

DR. K is DA BOMB!!!! He is a fantastic professor! You MUST go to lecture and discussion. You must also study hard and ask questions if you have them. He is fair and offers extra credit.

Dr. K is my favorite prof. Even though I put the easiness so high you still need to work in order to get your grade. Make sure you memorize the d2l quiz questions because thats pretty much half of the exam.

Dr. K is the best professor I have ever had in college. He teaches a very difficult subject but manages to keep his students engaged in the material. He truly cares about his students getting an A and provides a lot of resources to help. However, his class is very hard. Missing on lecture will be detrimental.

Dr.K is simply the best overall educator that I have ever come across. He he helpful, insightful, funny and very intelligent. He wants nothing more than for all of his students to do well and he works hard to make sure that happens. Getting an A is very hard, but so is failing the class if you try. Take his class and listen to his advice.

The best professor I have ever had. He really knows his stuff and is a fantastic lecturer.I think I'm getting yale quality lectures paying U of A tuitions. I am a premed and I take this class because it's required, but he actually got me very interested in Ochem. But be warned, don't dream you can get an easy A because he is nice. It's Ochem.

if you're on here looking for who the best ochem teacher is, it is koerner. he does make it very difficult to fail, you really do have to try which he states throughout the course. i have to agree with some of the posts on here though- he's got the worst personality, most cocky dude i've met. with an attitude check he'd be awesome.

Ochem is a tough subject. Koerner makes this relatively easy, but it's still a tough class. Dr. K wants everyone to succeed though, especially if you're pre-health/pharm etc. He'll give you extra stuff for the MCAT/PCAT too. Highly recommended. Take even if he's teaching at a weird time.

Ochem is tough, but Dr. K makes it straightforward. As a premed, I find every bit of his lecture relevant--he does not waste your time with extra info or unnecessary detail. Dr.K sets up a great support system, and students in his class really strive to help each other. He tells you EXACTLY how to spend your time to succeed in his course. Take him!

Dr. K was the best professor I have had. He is very helpful and all he wants is for students to do well. He eliminates the competition and makes it possible for everyone to get an A. It is pretty much impossible to fail. Only 4 out of a 240 person class are getting Ds. Not an easy class, but makes it easy to get a C or a B.

Dr. Koerner is one of the best professors I've ever had. He makes one of the hardest subjects in college into one of the most interesting. This is not an easy class, but he makes it so that everyone can get at least a B in the class. I recommend taking him if you're thinking about taking Ochem.

writes notes extremely fast, but they are easy to understand when you actually have time to study and learn the material later. not very helpful one on one and actually found him to be pretty condescending, but i didn't go in to talk to him much so that wasn't a big issue. thinks his class is the only class you have to study for, which got annoying

Dr. K is the best teacher I have had. He makes Ochem not so impossible. If you keep up with the material there is no way to get a C in the class. Although the test are difficult, He provides all the tools necessary to get a good grade. Make sure to approach him he is such a nice man and he will help you.

You should do everything in your power to have Koerner for Organic Chemistry 1 or 2. The class is difficult, and you will need to devote more time to it than any other class if you want an A, but it is much easier to get a C or a B (quiz points, extra credit). He has amazing T.A.s that are very helpful and a very well-structured class.

Yes, this class is hard. Yes, ochem is hard. If you want to be prepared for the MCAT/PCAT/whatever other medical field, Dr. K can help you.

easy exams if you study a couple days before. Toughest part is the Final. Yes he gives you half of the exam but why are you still missing those questions? Good professor.

Honestly, I am shocked that people don't like Koerner. He is hands down one of the best teachers I have ever had. He will work harder than the student to get them a good grade in the class. Follow what he says and you will do amazing. And to everyone says that he is "arrogant"... I would be too if I was as brilliant at O.Chem as he is.

The content and level that is administered in the class matches the evaluation. Koerner does not just point at a powerpoint, he actually puts the effort to use the white boards and helps us create detailed notes that become VERY helpful in the end.

Dr. K is awesome! OChem is hard so people need to stop complaining and study! He helps a lot. It's hard to find professors like him..he wants all this students to succeed. hes funny, helpful, and engaging. I always enjoyed his lectures. If you're scared of ochem take Dr. K he will teach you everything in different ways...I love you Dr. K

Dr. K was the best professor I've had at the U of A. He made me want to learn Ochem and stay interested. This class was very challenging but with his help it was definitely easier. He does come off a bit cocky, but he is a great professor and he knows it. Very sad to see that did not return to the U of A.
