the notes are not very informative
I've been at the UofW for 4 years and Lee is by far the worst prof I have ever had. His lectures are completely unclear, there is no point in attending class because you won't learn anything. My advice would be to read the text book.
Class is 90% lectures so attendance is a must, although he never seems to make a clear point so having said that why bother attending, it seems to be difficult to get a good mark in this class regardless.
unclear on what to study, notes somewhat uninformative in general, he still kept my interest in lecture. attempts to involve the class, which personally I enjoyed.
I REALLY liked this prof. I am not the biggest fan of school but he really kept me interested. He used great examples. The tests were the right amount of a challenge. I felt bad because he really wanted everyone to join in but since it was 1st year everyone was a bit shy. My only criticism is that he wasn't the best at telling you you were wrong.
Prof is very "my way, my thinking, nobody elses". Students ask questions and he doesn't answer them. Attending is a must. Tests are very confusing!
I see many negitive reviews but personally, he has been the best prof for me this year. Unlike most profs, he makes the class interesting and gets the class laughing almost every class. He sort of looks like Will Ferrell and has odd facial expressions...that alone makes attending class worth while!
Awful prof. Offensive. Perpetuates stereotypes and presents anti-women articles seemingly to get a rise out of the women in attendance. Monotone talking over boring powerpoint presentation. Places unnecessary emphasis on trivial things he finds interesting on tests. Read your textbook.
I personally thought he was a great prof. Has a sense of humor, tests were easy (as long as you pay attention and read your textbook) Classes were interesting and worth going to.
Very intelligent and helpful.
not helpful, in my opinion. he doesn't respond to emails. he talks, not teach the whole time. i bought a book for almost $300 and i never got to use it in class
All his lectures consist of is reading the notes off the screen, he doesn't clarify them at all, it is one if the most boring classes I have ever attended.
super funny guy, interesting sense of humor. makes practical application of material. very intelligent and interesting man
Great Prof. Obviously interested in the material, highly knowledgeable. Classmates complain regarding tests, explanations, but I received the best and easiest grade of my university career. Hoping to take another course with him in the coming years.
Great teacher.. Those who say that this class is hard clearly just don't study their notes/textbook because I havn't had a hard time getting good grades and I've never been good at school. *attending class is mandaroy! alot of test q's are based on class material
A good guy who makes an effort at making classes interesting. Funny in his own way, although I think it's lost on most people. The tests are mostly based on the textbook. You can get a good grade by doing the online quizzes. If you read your textbook and go to class, it's not a difficult A. Recommended.
Worst Prof ever. Cancels class all the time and especially before tests. He won't sent out e-mails about class cancellations and sometimes won't put a sign up until 5 minutes before class. Not helpful when asking questions, appears to like to make students feel stupid. Not a good prof at all!
He makes lecture interesting using trivia and large discussion. Quite humorous. Large amount of the exams are based on definitions from text. Good class to take
Cancels classes with no notice, and clearly hates his job/life. Extremely condescending when students ask him to clarify things that they don't understand (freshmen). However, easy A+ if you buy and read the textbook.
Overall really funny, sometimes a little confusing but well spoken! I would take another class with him!
He was by far my favourite prof in all of my time at the UofW thus far! He's a smart guy that appreciates when students take an interest in the topic; rather than huge weight placed on two exams, be breaks the grades up evenly among 6 tests. If you screw up on one of them (I got lazy and didn't study for one) it isn't going to destroy your grade.
His class was okay. Some days I loved it some days I was bored out of my mind. I found it hard to take part in class discussion though as he often would tell you how wrong your answer is even if it is an opinionated discussion. It was an easy class though with 6 equally waited tests and no assignments. No large exam, no reason to not pass.
He's a super nice guy, tries his best to make classes interesting and engaging but the material he had to work with was pretty superficial (since I just had him for a first year course). Dry sense of humour, but in a good way. Very easy class, but lectures were still entertaining. Would recommend.
when i took the summer psychology course with him, the lectures were long but he tried to get the class involved. his exams are all equally weight but if you don't study you are not going to do well. nice guy in general, would take another class with him.
Dr. Lee is an amazing prof and should get more praise. He has a sense of humor as well. Psych1000 isn't a hard class, and he makes his lectures very engaging and I enjoyed every bit. Tests are easy if you attended class (ex. "As discussed in class.." questions). Looked forward to going to class. Clear, engaging, and overall excellent professor.
Really enjoyed Mike Lee's class. Loved his dark sense of humour and interesting lecture topics. He makes an effort to engage the class in discussions. I did not enjoy his slides, as they were kind of messy and it was hard to take notes, but if you read the textbook before or after it's easy to connect the information.
Professor Lee gives enjoyable lectures, encourages class discussion, and has a good (but dark) sense of humour. He also obviously knows his stuff. His lecture slides aren't great however and sometimes he moves too fast to take good notes. However if you read the textbook along with attending lecture you will get an easy A in his class.
Mike Lee has a great sense of humour and has the easiest intro psych course. His tests are very fair and if you study it is easy to get over 85, most of the questions are common sense. He makes lectures interesting and tries to engage the class. Interesting class and an easy A+
Very casual. Slides have lots of visual aids and he goes into lots of examples, which left me feeling like not a lot of ground was covered for an intro class. Makes sure to explain something until everyone understands it however. pulled a no-show once or twice. Exams are comprehensive and often have to do with details from textbook.
Quite boring to listen too. Shows lots of visuals and info in slides though, most of everything is a copy and paste of the slides and textbook, but will mention from time to time of things worth writing down for tests. Vary hard to reach outside of class. Besides being underwhelming he's a good choice if you want easy enough.
Mike Lee was a solid teacher. He is very organized and very straight forward to what you need to know. As long as you read the material, going to & listening during lectures really helps you get a better grasp on the certain key concepts and definitions. He also posts the notes online and gives you practice exams which come in handy.
The notes are all online, as long as you read the notes you'll be fine. He does clarify some points in the lecture, but all-in-all if you read the chapters in the textbook and on Nexus, you'll be fine. All around, he's a pretty nice guy.
His tests were so easy and he is not a tough marker. He is caring and will post practice tests to prepare the students which i found very helpful. Only bad thing is his lectures were pretty boring
graded only on multiple choice exams which were usually pretty wordy. content was interesting but lectures tend to be taught lacking enthusiasm. material posted on nexus - textbook helped but not necessary.
I had Mike for intro psych last year and decided to take developmental psych with him this year. I regretted it. He teaches a lot of antiquated/potentially offensive ideas like that ADHD is a fake disorder that people made up for money. I really lost a lot of respect for the prof by taking this course.
great prof, show up and listen to his lecture and read the textbook and get an A
Uninspiring. Mostly just reads from slides. Kind of has a smirk most of the time. Doesn't respond to emails. Overall, very dull and a mediocre teacher at best. On the plus side, you can skip all the classes and get an A if you keep up with the textbook and slides. Mark entirely based off of multiple choice tests and exam
Worst psych class I've ever taken. Put no effort into making tests, took forever to mark essay. Don't take a class with him
It seems like he hates being a professor... He's interested in the course material but he is pretty disorganized and cancelled a lot of classes during the semester. Multiple choice tests which you needed to study for to pass. Takes forever to grade papers. Overall, it wasn't a pleasant experience.
I found Dr Lee's lectures to be insightful. He delivers the material in a manner that is not too difficult to understand. There is a lot of info, but it is manageable. He knows his stuff well. Tests were rather difficult to study for because the text and lecture material quite is different.
You can miss class and still do well. The textbook and lecture material don't always match up. The tests are multiple choice and most of the class did well. I would retake a class with him.
I took this class as a spring course so everything was jammed into 6 weeks but it was still do-able. Had to read the entire textbook over the class so its mandatory to have it. Great prof, very easy to listen to and never felt afraid to ask questions, would definitely recommend
I gave it a harder rating because it was condensed. I dont enjoy Lees instructing. His teaching methods are odd. His communication skills disappoint and can come off condescending at times. No luck asking for help outside of the class room either and he wouldnt stop telling us how "crazy" we were for taking it during the spring - we cant handle it.
He's okay. Talks a lot about philosophy, which I don't care about. I find his slides to be a bit unorganized but as long as you study the definitions from the textbook and the slide notes you'll do fine. Usually posts slides right after class. Lectures can get boring.
Read the textbook before class make notes on those chapters. Go to class to write notes on his lecture slides. His slides were too dumbied down. if u were to miss a class - he has the slides posted on nexus after the lecture < however, the amount of pics + lack of info sometimes makes it difficult to understand whats going on. tests are easy/weird
Worst prof I've ever had. Extremely boring, lectures aren't useful. The book is pretty much your only teacher, he's often late or cancelled class last minute, he lost my first 3 tests along with 15 other students (didn't even apologize) & didn't find them until I asked him 5 times before going to the dean & we only got them back after the V.W date.
Good professor, always leave class feeling like you've learned something. He posts his slides online but without him there to explain it can become quite difficult so you're best going to class. If you go to class, pay attention, take notes you'll do fine. He also has a good sense of humor
If I could give zero as a rating I would. Prof does not respond to emails at all and lectures are all over the place and very unorganized. Would never ever take a class with Mike again.
Good prof and pretty interesting lectures. No final exam and there were no surprises on any of his tests
Great guy and a really good prof. I always leave class feeling like I've learned a lot. Really funny guy and doesn't take himself too seriously. His tests are easy as long as you've been there. Go to class and you'll pass which should not be a problem as his classes are great and interesting. The textbook is really not necessary, just listen to him
Lectures can be scattered sometimes but do deliver useful information. Very helpful to regularly attend class. Slides posted on NEXUS but being present for the accompanying lecture is necessary in giving the slides context. Good at making complex concepts into digestible information. Seems to genuinely enjoy teaching. Quirky and entertaining.
Took spring course with him and he made it seem less intimidating than i had expected. very good at clearly explaining the content. can get repetitive sometimes but overall is a very smart and great prof
Dr. Lee is the type of professor who likes to have the class participate in conversation. Some times he does bring up rather controversial topics, I don't think he actually truly believes them or means to be insulting. It's more of a Devil's Advocate type thing where he wants people to think hard about it. Be sure to read the text and attend class.
Dr. Lee is one of the best profs for intro psych. If you are interested in the content, his lectures go by pretty fast. His tests are mostly on textbook material, but he will give practice tests. Tests are easy if you study. Attending lecture is helpful as his slides arent too informative without him explaining them.
I took Drugs & Behaviour with Dr. Lee, I was so excited for this class but I very quickly lost that. I've heard okay things about him for PSYC1000, but this class is not his strong suit. Lectures had pretty much nothing to do with test material. Exams were all textbook questions, and in my opinion, questions were unfair. Try to avoid for PSYC-2920.
One of the best instructors ever. Do not ever listen to anyone who says negative comments. Tests are completely fair, nothing unexpected.
lectures were a little boring but class and tests are fair.
He is a great professor. He posts lectures online. Slides are informative but better when you attend class and listen to his explanation. Good connection with his students, very eloquent when it comes to explaining and definitely knows what he is talking about.
Mr. Lee is a great teacher for introduction to psych. He explain things uniquely and posts notes online once class has finished. He also provides practice tests for each unit to help prepare you for tests and gives you a chance to ask questions during class for clarification. Overall great teacher and interesting class
Heard good things before taking this psych 2200 class with Lee. But He doesnt respond to emails. Be ready to read the whole textbook because his slideshows are all over the place and very unorganized, they dont help. Practices quizzes dont help much either. Hes very unorganized but speaks well on the topics in class. Outside of it, its a no go
Lecture slides are very unorganized and hard to read. Rushes through slides. He cancels class frequently. Seemed as though he was not interested in teaching or explaining challenging aspects of the class when students asked to clarify. Must read the textbook. Very nice person!
Fantastic professor ! Just finished up with drugs and behaviour and he was amazing! If you do the work youll pass. Genuinely cares about the students and the grade you receive
Mike Lee is actually a really good professor. I dont think you have to do anything extra in terms of wanting to do well. Go to class, keep up with the textbook the usual. I think he preps you of the test well and you wont be surprised the day of. Pretty engaging, not too boring, explains material well and doesnt over complicate. Overall good.
His teaching style was dull. His Power Points were messy and unorganized. He frequently brought up unnecessary controversial topics/pictures. He did not answer emails. Textbook is a must, I found his lectures were not helpful for preparing for the exams. I will be avoiding taking a class with him again.
I have taken him twice, and he is wonderful! If you study you can get an easy A. He's very knowledgeable on the topics he discusses and he gives you practice quizzes to prepare for the tests, easy A
Professor Lee is awesome!!! Such a good prof and very obviously passionate and good at what he does. Lectures get a little heavy with material at times but never boring. Easy tests, as long as you read your textbook and attend lectures you shall pass with flying colours. hope to get him as a prof again in the future!!! makes me love psych even more
Overall an easy class to do well in, but his teaching style is very slow and repetitive, didn't find him to be engaging. Not my favourite, made me reconsider my major in psychology. Side note, he is quite uninformed on trans issues and was insensitive in his discussions of gender and identity.
I had a great experience with Dr. Lee. I appreciate how he takes time from lecture to see if we have questions or he prompts with his own to encourage class participation. I attended all classes, studied in my own time and participated in study groups. I would take again.
Professor Lee really loves his field of study which makes lectures super fun and interesting, exams and tests are easy if you pay attention and study (lots of people complained the class was hard but they also admitted to barely studying in group chats). I'd recommended taking a class with him! Interesting lectures, very open to conversation!
Prof. Lee is super kind and passionate about what he is teaching. Lectures are interesting and makes psychology fun! Lectures are recorded, which is very useful in case you have to miss a class. He is one of the best profs I've had! Don't listen to when people say his class is hard, they just dont study or pay attention. Exams are easy if u study!!
Textbook is mandatory!! His exams are all based off of the txt book and are all multiple choice. lectures I find were really boring but he's very sweet and caring and would always ask if we have questions. He never answers his emails which is frustrating. lectures are recorded which is great if you miss class. disorganized lecture layouts.
I liked this class and this prof. He is a good lecturer and I was never bored. It is important to attend the lectures, review a lot, and keep up with the reading. The class covers a lot of ground.
Passive aggressive, rude, won't answer questions. Don't think he could try any less. No responses to emails. Talks down to you. Contemptuous responses. So unhelpful it makes the course harder. It's not just a busy start of term - it will be all term. Abuse of power. AVOID. Read the text on your own time & save the stress.
his lectures are so dull. It’s so hard to pay attention when he brings up unnecessary things. Lectures are not engaging in anyway. Don’t lay in bed when you have his class, you’ll fall asleep.
Contrary to what others have said about his lectures, if you actually engage they are very interesting. He knows what he's talking about and makes it easy to understand. Very nice guy, tests are straightforward.
Everyone in the class dropped around 10% after he became the professor for the winter term. He is knowledgeable but lacks presentation skills and was unable to teach us the things required for the tests.
Class is based on unit tests that aren't cumulative. Lectures can be slightly boring but are easy if you can pay attention sometimes you have to do your own learning on some topics on youtube as the way he explains I did not completely grasp. Tests are 99% based on slides and practice quizzes he posts. Also taking his drug and behavior class now.
His lectures are long but engaging. There's a lot of reading but the course content and exams are fairly easy to digest and accomplish once you genuinely put in the work and effort. I really enjoyed this course and it was very interesting. He's also very understanding and patient. I would definitely recommend this professor!
I can't understand the positive comments. Lee is the most unprofessional prof. Impossible to contact, then dismissive and passive aggressive in class. To me his name conjures images of a sloth. He was always late, appeared dirty and unkempt. He makes jokes and tries to be fun but over all, just run. Or stay home and read.
He is a pleasant and kind professor. His slides are very unorganized and very difficult to follow without his explanation. If you want to get good scores, read the text book and his slides very well. Exams are not so easy, prepare well. Most of the questions are scenario based not exactly what covered in class.
Very dull voice with not much emotion. Personally I thought most things were very poorly explained. He seemed to explain things much more complicated than they needed to be.
Has a very dull voice like another anon said. His slides are a mess and his lectures are a snooze fest. He just reads off of the slides most of the time. Only few things good about this course is that he's pretty laidback and the exams are multiple choice.
