Learned a lot. Nice guy.
This guy rocks!!
NOT very helpful. Does this guy know what he's teaching???
Good teacher really easy class
Made you enjoy studying computers. Interesting assignments.
As long as you get on his good side the first day and talk to him after class for a bit he will be very helpfull to you. And ask him how his science fiction book is coming along. He made it fun to come to class.
nice Guy
The best teacher ever!
Great teacher and knows what he is talking about! The best part is the music selection in the beginning of class. He has good taste!!
oh! man if u want a freindly teacher and a easy teacher go for him he is awesome. his way of taking midterm is fun and final is like more clear and easy. More than that he got alot of things to share with us. He is a well educated and experienced.i will say go for him
Pretty cool teacher, real nice guy and really knows what he is talking about. He's kinda strange but oh well :)
He is simply awesome in his own way. I patted my back for taking a class with him. He is just WOW!!
He's the best teacher you will ever find. Great class.
Great Teacher! Lots of good real world examples!
This is one of those classes that you wouldnt mind attending, do the work and get the A. This class is straight forward, alot of extra credit and everything is fair. Should be an easy A. One of the nicest and coolest teachers ever, pretty funny as well.
Awesome teacher. Had lots of great stories about the working world. Seemed like he worked for every place you could think of. Graded decent as long as you paid attention. Definitley recommend.
Amazing teacher and a great guy. Gives lots of extra credit, and being in his class is fun because he tells lots of stories. Study for the quizzes and you'll do great.
He's a nice easy going teacher. I don't think there's anything bad about him. But this class is very boring cuz he goes very slow. I personally hated it because this course was required for my major. I was really bored!
Mike Losacco is way cool, alot of fun, and plays awesome music before each class. I definitely recommend him for any class he teaches!
This guy should leave COD and teach at Harvard. Extremely intellectual with real world examples. Take him if you actually want to learn something at COD.
umm idk what YOUR INTEREST means lol so i putted 1.. lol..but he's a cool teacher
He's an okay teacher. I don't like the way our midterm was. He made us sit in groups and we played a game like jeopardy which was not fair cuz the people in my group were not that smart. They didn't study for the test at all so I ended up answering all the questions. He's a boring teacher, esp when he goes on & on about the notes for an hr!!
Great teacher, easy to learn from. He should be teaching at U of I, not crappy COD. Though i think he should rethink on how he does his mid-terms. If you get stuck with idiots, it could hurt you.
This teacher is great. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong!! He plays AWESOME music before class...His lectures can be boring because he isn't reawlly teaching the MOST INTERESTING STUFF. He is genuine and nice, and has an AWESOME website! he actually takes the time to help students. He is a great person.
HONESTLY, THIS CLASS WAS A BORE. HE IS AN INSANELY SMART GUY, AND VERY COOL. HE IS GREAT IN THE SENSE THAT HE IS VERY HELPFUL HE PLAYS MUSIC BEFORE CLASS! HIS LECTURES DRAGGED AND HE HAS A VERY MONOTONE VOICE WHAT CAN PUT YOU TO SLEEP =/ IT'S JUST A BORING CLASS OVERALL.
Mr. Losacco Is an Excellent teacher. You will have so much fun in his class that it doesent even seam like your in class. He is one of the best teachers you could take at COD.
So, if you're taking the 1150 class and can't at least get a B, you shouldn't be touching a keyboard. Get off the computer. Now. Otherwise, Losacco teaches things in class that are pretty useful. Sure, you can do basic stuff in Word, Powerpoint, and Excel. But He wants you to do it just a little better. Great personality, very laid back.
Ok so first of all, everyone keeps stressing the whole music thing b4 class. He plays music for 2 minutes if your there b4 class starts. He is a nice guy and I barely ever went to class which was good. VERY BORING CLASS. I had a guy who fell asleep in my class. BUT I just went on myspace the whole time so if u like to be on myspace or facebook for
I was fortunate to be in a class with people that were alive...this made a huge impact..I mean...how exciting are computers??....I learned a lot and made a friend....he is always there if you need help....and ladies......he is EXTREMELY easy on the eyes!!!!
Good teacher, good guy. Laidback. class was pretty boring, but what do you expect from intro to computers. Stay on top of work and you'll do fine.
Take him, great professor!... dont need the text at all. If you do your work, youll do fine. Summer class was a breeze.
Prof L was a very cool guy.He gives homework sometimes but you were always given enough time to do it in. Reel down to earth and he also does a cool part about the band RUSH!!! Do your stuff and you will get an A!
This Professor is Great!!!! Basically just pay attention and listen to everything he lectures about and you will do fine. Study for test and quizzes and keep up with it. AWSOME professor.....oh! & very helpful. Definitely recommend this prof. to U!
Great prof. Easy Class. Do extra credit...it's easy and you won't need to study a lot for the weekly quizzes or for the midterm and final. I really enjoyed this class.
Great teacher... He's funny... Very easy class... A lot of easy short quizes and 5 very easy projects... He helps you out with anything... I learned a lot in this class... I highly recommend this teacher.
He is really awesome...i don't study but still i got A
Plays music in the beginning of class, which is kinda weird but cool. Very helpful class, and pretty cool teacher
Music before class, not always the best but their were a few gems in there.Always was clear. Other than that awesome class with a great teacher.
If you can't handle sarcasm and a little taunting, don't take this class. Some of the concepts are a bit confusing and redundant but he is very helpful and has lots of good stories and analogies. Attendance is not mandatory per se but let him know if you won't be there or he'll drop you after a few times. A few projects and weekly quizzes.
If you don't know about HTML -XHTML and what you going to be doing DO NOT TAKE THE CLASS. He is very hard with assignments and TAKES POINTS OUT FOR EVERY SMALL THING. He wants everyhting his way, if he does not like color or design you are in deep****. Will not explain clearly either. Bottom line when you take this class you are own your own.
Losacco was a very interesting teacher. He likes to play music at the beginning of class which was interesting. He is a little monotone sometimes but is a cool guy all-around. His lessons are relatively easy especially if you have a basic understanding of computers. No homework other than studying for weekly quizzes and a few easy projects.
Great teacher. You have to work a lot on your homeworks but this is the only way to actually learn HTML.Great guy, always helps you if you have any questions or problems.
Definitely one of a kind but pretty cool in his own way. Has his unique style of teaching but overall I did enjoy his class.
He is a really good teacher and he is funny and laid back and just a great professor
i have much respect for Losacco, he is a down to earth guy and is great at teaching his craft.
you're pretty much on your own here. Study HTML BEFORE you take his class. There's no flexibility, assignments are due on specific days no negotiations. For every minute late, points are taken off. Oh, and you can?t recover once you?ve lost those points. Go with someone else if you can.
If you're not into computers like I am, it is still a great class to take because he is passionate about the subject and can be funny.
He's a really cool guy. He tells interesting and funny stories relevant to what we are talking about. Great class.
Took his online html/css class. He responds quickly to e-mails. Loved the class. There is a weekly assignment from the book and test (15 T/F questions). Grades fairly. I learned a lot from this class! If you are taking an online computer class, take Losacco! :)
Mediocre. Teachings included the Jakob Nielsen philosophy that content is more important than looks in website design (see www.useit.com for more info), but then gave the best grades to students that designed flashy but superficial web pages. Gives exams straight from the textbook author, but cannot recognize when there are errors in the exams Qs.
Hes a good teacher, very wise guy. Everything is really easy to comprehend. One tip though. Study for the quizzes! Best advice is to basically memorize his entire powerpoint and take some notes too. Pay attention and youll be fine.
I took his online HTML/CSS class and he was extremely strict about turning assignments in on time and having everything exactly the way the book states. I've taken 5-6 online classes and he is by far the worst teacher I've had Just because you don't see the students in person doesn't mean you can't interact with them and have a fun/fair class.
This guy has problems. He takes like 10 points off if you forget to italicize something. I don't recommend for online. He is very strict and makes the clan NOT FUN at all.
Outstanding teacher, I missed his class. He is very intelligent and you will learn a lot from his class. You even don’t need to read a book since power points and good notes are enough to prepare for tests. Plus, you need to do additional assignments which are easy, not time consuming. You are lucky to have him; he is One of the Best Professors.
I've done fairly well in this class, but when he grades assignments, he won't give reason for grade if it's not 100%. A LOT of the tests have questions not related AT ALL to the chapter. I even took one test that had NOTHING to do with the chapter and relied on the Interet to help me. This is a shame I was looking forward to taking this class
Great professor! Very clear and informative! He knows what he's talking about and is very organized and punctual. I've learned quite a lot about CIS because of him. He will give comments on assignments that weren't perfect. Come to his class and on time! You won't want to miss the discussions. Study hard! Pay attention! You'll do well!
I have huge respect for Prof. Losacco, he likes serious students. Looking for an easy A? Not here. No tolerance for tardiness or talkers. Tight grading, not impossible to do well though. Lots of time and help for lab assignments. Jokes around but won't waste your time. Mid-term was like a game show - fun! Answers email promptly and grades fast.
I took the online class and he was just awful. He made us do all the assignments using the "strict" HTML, which was sometimes conflicting with the book. There wasn't any feedback either, all he did was run the code through a validator. Also, he liked to take points off for files which were not required. Avoid him for online classes.
Very strict but I went into this class knowing that. Took this online and I think I missed a lot of material that would have been covered in class - Powerpoints just aren't the same. Also wish he could have been more specific pointing out what was incorrect on assignments. It was ok, but I'd recommend the classroom.
Subtracts an absurd amount of points for minor mistakes and fails to mention this before hand. The tests in his class often include questions not covered in the text, and will be marked wrong if not worded exactly as he wants, even if the answer given is correct.
Really good, informative course. Provides a rubric that outlines point deductions, links to validators that show your errors so you can correct them before you submit. Attaches a file that lists the errors and even references the line number. Includes Powerpoints that cover the supplemental material. Quickly answers emails and posts grades.
Punctual professor, quick grader, and has intriguing stories. The projects are not too bad, but the quizzes will take a toll on your grade. They are usually about random facts that were mentioned once in the text. The class gets boring at times because you do the homework one day, then he lectures in the next class about the same topic.
Use of online textbook tools was annoying. The quizzes and tests were done online that were produced by the publisher so the questions were extremely specific. Labs and projects were fun and easy to do if you are familiar with office. Overall good teacher, he has lots of interesting stories. Try hard and you will get a good grade!
Read other reviews for online 1310 and stay away. Does not teach ANYTHING! Just uploads PowerPoints which contain bullet points. Nothing is explained in detail. You just follow the book. But even if your code passes validation and matches the book PERFECTLY, you will still lose FULL letter grades for not doing things HIS poorly explained way.
Class was pretty easy, he tries to keep everything simple and straightforward. The only issue I had was everything you do in class is online now, there's no real interaction. That said, as long as you get your work done and study a little, you shouldn't have any issues.
He is an awesome teacher! Quizzes and test are online but he is very good in his lectures do pay attention bc he does explain more than his powerpoints show. I DO RECOMMEND HIM!
Made html fun to learn! Lectures are hilarious, entertaining and never boring. Super fast grader and gives feedback on assignments. Gives more detailed info in lectures. Def take again.
Great teacher, COD is lucky to have him. I would take him again in a heartbeat. He wants you to learn. Doesn't hand you an A like some COD professors. Homework and a test in every chapter. The tests are pretty easy, open book. The homework - do it perfect and use a code validator! Very sarcastic which I think is a good thing.
Great teacher, very informative and you will learn in his class. Took this online, he responds to e-mails in a timely manner. Responses are direct and to the point. A good amount of work required but is well spaced out with reasonable time-frames given to complete assignments. Tough grader but if you do your work you'll get an A.
You have a lot of quizzes (almost one everyday) but they are never that hard if you read the chapters and do the work. He is a great teacher and really cares about what he teaches. His "The Dash" talk is amazing, make sure you don't skip that day in class. Overall an easy grade if you do the work, just don't slack off.
Losacco rules. If you want a legit challenge take him. He's very clear cut. I took it online and found him very helpful. Also, google is your buddy.
Do the hw n ur good! Beware of group projects...
He's the type of teacher that teaches you about life and applies the subject into the real world. An A in this class is easy if you do the assignments, attend class, and do some reading from the textbook. Lectures based on the book and he provides his personal real-world examples, some of which are hilarious.
Great Teacher!! He is very clear on what he teaches, and we have a blast in class! Best teacher at COD!!!
I took a lot of online classes and by far he was the worst professor I ever had. He never used to give clear instructions on how to do the assignments. He was a tough grader and always used to take points off for the smallest of mistakes and would never explain where he deducted the points. The tests are easy but wont help if you do poorly on HW.
I think computer class is boring anything to do with computers bore me, but Mr. Lossaco really kept me interested and I actually like the class. I definitely would take him again.
Good class ,very doable&Professor Losacco really cares about the students. Has a good sense of humor; but values participation in class. Many quizzes/homework but they aren't hard. He does a good job making his lectures interesting in a type of class that could otherwise be very boring. Also, The Dash was really good, definitely don't miss it!
Losacco is an amazing professor. His lectures are solid so skipping them is your loss. Losacco tells you explicitly tells you what he expects on assignments; however, he is a tough grader. Tests are open book so take advantage of it. Another piece of advice don't be late to class he can't stand it.
He is a good teacher, who clearly presents the material and the projects are all clearly explained. However, he is a very strict grader. And while he always explains why he takes points off, it is not always for the same things, and can be difficult to predict whether your assignment is correct until after the fact
Losacco is one of the worst professors I've had at this school. I find him very unhelpful through email, and his assignments are very unclear.
Losacco an incredible teacher his lectures are inspirational and practical. He explicitly tells you what he expects on assignments; however, he's a tough grader. The tests are all opened book which is always a plus. I would definitely recommend taking his class. He teaches more than just computers he teaches you how to live.
I took this class during the summer and Losacco was by far the worst teacher I've had so far. He assigns WAY too much work to do outside of class through blackboard and doesn't even let you know what's assigned. There is a ridiculous amount of reading required for this course and Losacco uses only ebooks which ALSO contain exercises that are graded
hard class lots of labs.
The classwork is by no means difficult but he is a nitpicky grader. Losacco is a pretty cool guy and had the whole class laughing several times. Assignments are straight out of the textbook so make sure you get the correct edition or they won't sync.
Great teacher! Losacco is funny but really knows how to teach. His DASH presentation is amazing and every eye opening. Hands down best computer teach at COD. Highly recommend him!
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!! If you do, you will regret it. He tells you to pass your code through the validator and you will get an A or B on the assignment, but when he returns it, you will see so many points taken off for small mistakes which doesn't effect the code . Hes absolutely a horrible teacher & doesn't give you 2nd chances of assignments.
His presentations are very clear from which he delivers lecture. But he is a very tough grader and sometimes he doesn't clear the answers.
Losacco is great! He lets you use the book and internet on quizzes. You need to pay attention to his lectures because his powerpoints are very vague. He goes into more details while lecturing. As long as you follow along and complete the homework, it is easy! Would definitely take him again!
Incredible the lack of disconnect between teachers and how the real world work these days. He has us use some polyglot markup style which was done away with in practice probably the last time he worked in the field 20 years ago. As a last ditch effort I even had one of my friends who is a profession web developer do work for me and still failed.
Awful grader. Takes points off for the most minor errors even if the code/results are not affected. He actively looks for things to find wrong. His feedback is vague and unhelpful. His focus is on inane, outdated coding protocols instead of learning how to code efficiently and effectively. Would never take him again. Terrible teacher.
This Guy Brings His Personal Ethics and Moral into his Lectures and some cool history. A good portion of it is supplemental and expects you to read and understand the mountain of material on your own. Tough grader and And takes it personally if you're late(locks door 5-10m after) Comes off as hardass, but surprisingly approachable if you reach out.
Worst online class I've ever taken period. Prof provides minimal lecture slides without video lectures. The assignments straight out of the textbook and are also cumulative. Points taken off seem arbitrary, and his feedback on is often vague. He's the only prof I've seen assign homework over spring break. Find a prof who cares about online classes.
This guy has no idea what he is doing. Uses a book that has standard HTML syntax, has you use dated polyglot syntax (not in book), and provides the "Correct Code" in non-polyglot for you to check against. Don't use it tho or you get dinged for it. Getting an A in this class is about playing his game. Find a different Prof if you want to learn.
Horrible horrible horrible! I am so upset with the professor! Dont even know what hes getting paid to do! I asked one single question the whole semester on our discussion board for the class and he scolded me for asking it! No lectures and no guidance. Truly a class you will be completely on your own for. He doesnt provide answers or help. F-
If you do not already know the material, do not take this instructors class, no lecture videos, no guidance. Very robotic. Zero leniency, zero engagement. yes I took an online course but I may as well have downloaded a program online and self taught. I dropped this class after 4 weeks. I feel with the right educator I would not have dropped.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!! THIS GUY SHOULD NOT BE A PROFESSOR. You will be miserable if you take his class. I regret taking his class.
This professor is a good professor. Responds to emails pretty quickly and is clear for what is required from you. Assignments every week, relays heavily on the on the book and it kind of a tough grader. The only problem I had with this professor is the grade he gave me on my midterm project that worked with no errors but had minor code mistakes.
His assignments can be a little challenging at times but they are very doable. My suggestion if you are taking this class with him is to get started on assignments early. Just one group project!
As someone with current experience in the field, this class does not teach HTML. The textbook is way too long, and the "summary slides" he posts are sometimes about something else entirely. Harsh grader with no help available. Insane amount of work with worse deadlines (group project + 3 chapters due over Thanksgiving break)
If I could choose to have him as my teacher for the rest of my education, I would. He is a great professor all around. I do not have anything negative to say about him or the way he teaches. If you have an opportunity to be taught by him, I would take his class.
I do like that everything is set up in advance. However, if you struggle with time/focus, you will fail. There is no leniency or help if you fall behind. Youre thrown into learning coding via textbook (lots of reading) without any pre-reqs. The presentations have different random info than the textbook. Very harsh grading due to it being HTML code
I took Mr. Losacco for 3 courses. My first course (CIS 1310), I kinda slacked for a bit and got a C. However, this was 100% on me. My next course with him (CIS 1300) went a lot better. You have to turn the work in on time. That being said, it's a reasonable amount of work, and he is very accessible when you need help and will explain things well.
Took a summer class and dropped immediately after first week after seeing him grading stuff. Taking points for absolutely everything. This class is supposed to be for beginners but he makes it look its final week - EVERY WEEK. Super tough graded - worse professor I have had for 3 years at COD
He's exactly what I always expected a College/University professor would/should be. Very strict but also very fair. His pace might be a little too fast and if you fall behind one step there is no coming back. But, as strict as he is, he's also very caring and will not hesitate to give you full points if you follow instructions. 100% recommend.
This class is majorly comprised of homework and modules that he allows you to do in class. Make sure to stay on top of your assignments and you will pass. Professor Losacco loves to make his class engaging by telling stories that relate to real life situations and have deeper meanings. Overall, super easy class if you do your homework, GET AHEAD.
Challenging but doable with early start on assignments. The professor can be a tough grader but provides clear expectations. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for coding practice.
Took class online super hard keeps building off previous assignment. If u have a line of code wrong on previous assignment gets marked wrong again on the next assignment until you fix it. You get to use code validation even if it says it's right he will still mark it wrong. Had to grade on a curve my c turned into a b
Just don't take a class with him.
First he is a incredibly strict grader he makes the class use a markup language to create a more strict coding rules witch I agree is useful coding websites however this is a beginner course. He overall is a extremally strict grader however the only reason I have a problem with it is due to all of his answer keys would also fail by his own metric.
