The best prof ever. Incredibly clear, incredibly helpful, makes everything interesting, is just dying to help, seriously. Fair: lots of work=good grades. Exams are pretty hard, but doable.
Great teacher! Easy to understand, nice as heck! And a wonderful class.
Manna rocks! He is excited about what he's doing and is more than willing to answer questions even if it takes all class period. His tests are fair, one the hard side, but if you study the lecture notes and do the ready you'll be fine.
Mana is great. He's entertaining and down to Earth. Tests are easy due to the lecture notes he generously provides. He is excited and willing to help with any questions or problems that arise. I enjoyed the class.
Awesome professor. Makes a 400++ class seem like it could be 30. Just should out "Hey Mana" and ask away your question. Definitely engaging and knows what he's talking about. Highly recommended!
Mana doesn't like it when his students try to go to breaks earlier than the last day! that was my only problem with him.
Best teacher yet! He loves to clarify any questions and is always excited to be there and on what he is going to teach that day. Kept me awake at 8:30 in the morning... and that's good! Highly Recommended!
pretty good class. he provides all the lecture notes on blackboard. tests are kind of hard, know the material. willing to answer any questions tho
Mana is a great professor that keeps the class entertained..know the notes for the tests but all the lectures can be found online..good overall class!
I just had to take this intro. class and wasnt all that interested in it, but Mana made it great. He is so enthusiatic and loves his subject. The tests were easy if you went to class and he made everything really clear. Good job, Mana! I love the tye dye, man.
Mana's so cool! I read and went to almost every lecture. He kept me awake (almost) every 8:30am class. He's really passionate and likes what he's teaching. 4 tests, each 25% of grade...just study lecture notes well.
Mana is awesome, his Tye-Dye shirts kept me going to class almost. I took AP Psych in high school and this was a lot like that not terribly difficult. I never read and rarely went to class and pulled a C any effort should get you B or better.
tough course, well taught. interesting lecture style, good examples.
Lectures seemed to get a little off topic at times but were interesting overall. He didn't show up for class on more than one occasion, which was frustrating.
HARD CLASS, you have to be interested before going to really enjoy it. But he wants to help the students. He's very passionate about the subject.
Exams are very difficult. Exams are not straight forward. You cannot only read the book, or attend lecture, or do the study guide alone. It takes it all and more to do well on the exam.

love the tye dye
Class was hard as hell. Part was the content, but he was very unforgiving and fast paced when it came to teaching the material. However, he's the coolest prof you'll ever have. I ended up going to his office hours just to bs about things both related and unrelated to the class.
Mana is a wacky canadian professor who sports tye-dye shirts, short shorts and long crew-length socks with his sandals year-round. He is SO EXCITED about his subject it is overwhelming at times, and I think that his intro to biopsych class may be a bit too in-depth because of this. Overall, though, it would be very hard NOT to come away from this class with a wealth of information.
good teacher...lots of info...have to go to class...posts notes on the internet which is good
He is an awesome teacher! Mana will go over a topic numerous times until you understand it. Loved the tie dye, and very intersting person to listen to. Tests were difficult, but pulled a B- out of the class and I'm not a psych major.
Psychopharmacology...ho-lee- crap. The class was a beast, the tests were rough, and it was at 8 AM. Still I loved every meeting. Mana is great. Be prepared for the dreaded multiple multiples. And you gotta give it up for the tye-dye.
Really nice guy and interesting class but there is lots of reading.
Mana is not an easy prof., but he's fair. He keeps lectures interesting, and will answer ANY questions, even when you interrupt him. A lot of work can be expected, but it is all relevant.
Mana is one of the most supportive teachers in the Psychology department. He is always willing to listen and help if ever you need a problem.... however, psychopharmacology IS a beast, but Mana makes it fun and entertaining. Reading every assigned chapter really helped me get a better grasp on lecture material, since I'm not biopsych. Good luck!
My favorite prof at WWU, great guy, lots of enthusiasm for the subject and he can actually make neuroscience fun!
By far one of the best teachers I've had. Extremely accomodating and very cool!!! Just an all around wonderful guy :0)
Best prof at WWU! Extremely interested in the subject, very helpful inside & outside of class, cooler than most students! Will make you work for your grade, tests are NOT easy, but he's fair and does a great job preparing you for them. Attend class regulary, study text, but mostly lecture notes and slides.
Mana is so fun and loves what he is teaching. Very funny and unique guy. Easy to talk to and willing to help outside of class. Always makes sure everyone understands before moving on to the next topic. Test format is very hard (fill in the blank, multiple-multiple choice) but if you go to class and study it's not toooo bad.
Likes the subject he teaches, but he's very disorganized. He bounces all over the place and he's extremely difficult to follow. late to class every day. Many times I'd try to ask him questions after class and he'd tell me to come see him in his office, but when I did he either wasn't there or would have to leave early.
HATED his teaching style.Very crazy and unorganized. Skipped around between sections and went very fast through lecture notes. Doesnt off study guides at all and tests can be fairly difficult.I thought this would be my favorite class as I want to major in psychology but it ended up being my least favorite and worst grade. Dont recommend him for 101
Nice guy, fun to listen to, but he assigns lots of reading; too much for a 101 class, in my opinion. Starts class late sometimes, which I find annoying. Once he was more than 15 minutes late, and even though most of the class left, he still went on with the lecture.
Mana's really laid back and does a good job keeping the class engaged. He goes off lecture notes and he puts them online, but it helps a lot to follow along with the textbook. Tests are fair, just go over notes and read.
Mana is AWESOME! I recomend taking psy 101 from Mana over all the other psy teachers. If you read/skim the book and write down notes on his printable "lecture notes" you will do fine on the tests, PLUS you won't have to attend class. memorizing is key.
Difficult for Neuro...a 200 level class should not be that hard!! From Canada and has a "hippie" attitude and attire, tie-dye shirts, no shoes... I think he knows a lot and prob. is a fun dude to chill with although his teaching style is very scientific and often not the most interesting or helpful info, unless your going into research.
Hard course for 200 level!! I think if I stayed in the course I would have really liked Mana as a person..hippie dude! His teaching style is different, and maybe it was too early in the morning to take neuro... 4 tests and no other scores. I got a crappy grade on 1st test so dropped. Soeta difficult concepts.
Mana is an awesome teacher. He is VERY funny and entertaining in his lectures. He has lecture notes made for you already so you print that out and bring it to class. His test are no joke. This class is solely based on 4 test which sucks. Make sure you read the book and his notes.
Mana is a good teacher and seems like a great guy. he is very interested in psychology, and tries hard to engage students. He tells good stories, and tries to help everyone understand the subject matter. 4 tests, and they're TOUGH. so study! Mana is a good teacher though. Go canucks!!
Very good
Awesome teacher! Explained things well and kept the class going at a managable pace.
He's hilarious! I'm glad I had the opportunity to have him as a teacher. He's easy to understand and his lectures are actually fun to attend. He makes me like Canadians. :)
Mana is the best! Some find the class (220) hard, it's difficult material but he teaches it EXTREMELY well. Going to his class is very enjoyable, even early in the morning. I found I barely had to read the book, his notes and lectures were sufficient.
Dr. Mana is probably the best professor I've ever had. I do research for him now. Take his class.
Mana is 100% legit. He's the only professor I've written a review for because I felt so strongly about this. Take class from him, no matter what.
Mana was a fun and easy to comprehend teacher. His class was based on three MC tests, which were all easy. If you go to class and read the book, it will be an easy A. Only hard if you don't do the reading and chronically skip class.
Interesting guy and very chill, wore tie-dye every day of the quarter. Was very helpful and approachable, he liked to make the class as much of a discussion as possible. Did get a little off topic sometimes, but his anecdotes were really funny and in a lot of ways helped solidify the content in my mind.
For a class that probably should've been boring, Mana made it awesome. I've always had trouble paying attention in lecture style classes, but hardly ever found myself drifting in Mana's class. He does go on tangents sometimes, but is an incredibly animated speaker and appears right at home on stage. I highly recommend him!
Mana is definitely one of the most interesting professors I've encountered here at Western and the class was enjoyable. He posts the class notes online, so if you're sick, head to Blackboard. I suggest comparing the class notes with a friend though just in case something is missing. Study, study, study...
One of the most interesting prof's I have had! Super funny guy, and he makes the class exciting (which is hard, in a class of 150+ students). Dont be fooled into thinking his exams will be easy, but if you study and take notes they shouldnt be hard at all
Mana is one of those professors that will make your education memorable. If you have a chance to take a class with him (especially a neuroscience class) I recommend that you take that opportunity. If you attend lectures and ask questions as well as read the book, you won't have trouble on his tests.
Mana is by far the BEST professor I have ever had! Years from now I will still remember the analogies he used to make lecture interesting and more memorable! He is very passionate about what he teaches and he has a very animated personality! I will take his classes any chance I get! Definitely recommend them :)
Best prof I've had at western. Great class, great guy.
Dr. Mana is by far the best professor I've ever had. There were 500 students in my lecture class, but it only felt like 30. His lectures were always interesting... So interesting that I dreaded the end of class! Don't graduate without taking a class from him! Tests were easy, but you have to study for them.
Dr. Mana is awesome!! His lectures are always interesting, and a plus his notes are posted online so going to class, it is entertaining to just sit there and listen to him! He is an awesome teacher, and if you study a bit for his tests, you'll be fine. Definately try to take his class!
Mana is the best!!! The material isn't something you can breeze through, but he does all he can to help prepare for exams. Mana is a proud neuro geek and makes the class very interesting and worth attending. Easily my favorite class at western.
By far the most helpful professor I've ever had! It's obvious he really cares about his students. I had so much fun taking this class!
Dr. Mana is one of the best professors i have had at Western. That being said, he expects a lot from his students and he certainly knows his subject. Class is very difficult and i recommend only taking a neuroscience class if it is part of your major. Expect a lot of studying. The hardest class i have taken so far but you learn a lot.
Really helpful. you can use the slides and get a b on exams but if you read the book and study well you will get an a
Mana is a really cool guy! He's a neuroscientist, so he teaches psychology as more of a hard science, which I enjoyed. Read the textbook, go to the lectures, and you should do well in his class.
Mana is definately one of the coolest teachers you can get. I wish I had taken a different class with him however because psy 101 sucked.
Mana is incredibly nice and you can tell he truly cares about the success of his students. Lectures are fast paced and can be a bit dense, but he's always very willing to help explain things in office hours. He admits that his classes are hard, and they are, but if you have time for a hard class, take it with him because he's awesome.
Mana is amazing! Not only is he brilliant, but he's also probably the friendliest prof on campus, not to mention the most approachable. This class is tough, but if you put in the work you will do fine. Even though I'm not a neuro major, Mana made this class a ton of fun.
Took Psych101 with Mana. He's pretty good, hour and a half lectures are somewhat long. However, if you show up to class, take notes, and then do the reading, you should do fine. He grades fairly, and offers study sessions before each exam. Good teacher.
Only 3 tests for the whole quarter, plus extra credit opportunities. Really kind and gives good lectures!
I don't really like psychology but taking 101 with Mana was really fun. He's funny and answers your questions. Do well on exams if you read his power points and you'll do even better if you read the textbook. There's weekly online quizzes, but easy if you read the book. It's a lot of reading (about 30-50 pages). Hint is to not think too much.
Mana was a pretty rad dude. Make sure you pay attention in class because sometimes he'll say that he has a different opinion on a subject than in the book and they WILL show up on tests. Overall interesting class.
Mana is the best professor I have ever had at Western. He's extremely friendly, funny, and makes lectures entertaining. He really listens to his students. If you are taking 323 with Mana, be prepared to read, listen, and study your butt off. This is NOT an easy class. However, it is one of my favorite classes. Totally worth the work, in my opinion.
Mana's a really funny dude, and I enjoy his lectures and discussion groups. That being said, he's pretty disorganized, and that can mess with your ability to do the assignments. He also talks a lot more about neuroscience than any other aspect of psychology, so if you enjoy science, go for it! If you're like me and don't, just hang in there.
This class was super fun! Sad to say that I had a hard time waking up for the class because attending lectures was very helpful. He is obviously very interested in the lectures and makes it interesting. Tests are more on the hard side, but most of it is from lectures, and some of it from the book. I got away fine without the book.
Over the quarter I have gotten to know Mana quite well, and I have to say I've never had a teacher who was more enthusiastic about his subject. The class structure is two midterms and a final, with weekly quizzes that are just for extra credit. There is a lot of reading assigned, and if you want to get an A you need to do it, but its worth it!
Mana is the best, he cares a lot about his students and it shows. His office hours are usually packed with kids that either have questions about lecture or just want to say hey. very approachable and easy to talk to. His lectures are very applicable and he makes sure you remember the material. Great professor would definitely recommend!!
Thinks he is funny but he isn't. Lectures are okay but about basic stuff and old information. Friendly outside of class but sort of lonely friendly. Easy grader.
One of the best profs I've had yet. Really articulate, and genuinely listens to students (including questions, comments, confusion). Adds humor to the class, which isn't so bad when you have to sit and listen for over an hour. Really easy-going and easy to talk to. Randomly sheds general wisdom in class (take him up on the advice).
I absolutely LOVE Mana. I created a great relationship with him during my first quarter here. Very helpful, funny and makes psych interesting. Know's what he's talking about, and you'll never miss him in his tie-dye shirts and sandals. Going to his office hours is fun and helpful. Would love to be able to have him again, and will still visit him.
I really love Mana. He's into his subject, he loves teaching, and he cares about student learning. He is always wearing a tie-dye and a smile. And open-toed shoes and shorts year-round. If you read the textbook, take good notes, and study a bit, you'll get along just fine!
Dr. Mana is the bomb. Really clear with his expectations, fair with grading, funny, smart and passionate. He really cares about his students and has the best tie-dye shirts.
Explains things very well, great guy. Lectures are interesting! Friendly, and doesn't assign too much work. Very clear about assignment requirements, and Canvas quizzes are easy As. Doesn't give any tests in class, rather, a midterm essay and a final essay of two clear prompts each. Grades are very fair. I would recommend this class absolutely.
Mana is awesome! His psych101 class is all lecture, but he never discourages questions, and often the tangents he goes on to answer questions are the most interesting part of the class. Actually go to class, actually take notes, actually study, and actually ask questions when you're confused, and you will do fine in his class!
Mana is awful. He tries to come across as laid back and friendly but is really condescending and moody when you ask for information or challenge his viewpoints. At times he truly gives the wrong information and does not like this pointed out.
Most ridiculous class I've ever taken. He's a great guy, but doesn't go over anything you need to know. He skips the stuff people are actually interested in, and makes barely any effort to help you out. He really is a great person, but this class is a nightmare. Lowest grade I'll ever get in a psychology class.
Go to each class, read the material and review the power points he gives you. He is a tough but fair grader and he really cares about his students. He's incredibly approachable and thoughtful. He always makes time to go over things with you. His classes/tests are straightforward and while he doesn't go easy on you if you study well youll do well.
Study for test!
You should know exactly what will be on each test. PowerPoints are clear and concise, but be warned that not all information is on them. He will make key points during lectures that are important to write down, as you will be tested on them. If you show up to class, take good notes, take the (optional) quizzes, and study, you will get an A.
Material on test was not clear and there were many tangents in lectures that were tested on. Taught wrong information and tested on opinion.
Half the course was neuroscience, which he taught well and was interesting, but I wish he would've taught more psych.
Mana gives a lot of great examples to help all his students understand the content. He is really understanding a loves to answer questions. I would definitely recommend him!
tie dye. everyday. neuroscience was hard but if you study harder you're good to go. kind of, not really. but there's a chance.
mana's lectures aren't difficult. Too many stories and gets sidetracked. The tests were unclear.
Mana is the best! If you want a good grade in the class it is very attainable but he does make you work for it. Don't expect to do super well if you don't read the book and go to lecture almost every day. He tends to relate back to lecture and readings in his tests. I highly recommend him! He's funny, kind and really cares about your understanding
Dr. Mana is the best! I took 18 credits for my first quarter at Western, and his Intro to Psych class was my favorite. His lectures were very clear and easy for test memorization. He doesn't just read off the slides, and is a very interactive presenter. I think what makes him a good teacher is understanding memory and how students learn. Fantastic.
Mana was a good professor and had a passion for what he taught. I took Psychology 101, and he was good but took a neuroscience approach, which made it heavy on the parts of the brain and created a LOT of memorization. He has good content on his slides, but tends to ad-lib a lot and then will quiz you on whats he said rather than what he wrote down.
Mana was an OK Professor. I took Psychology 101, but it felt like a Neuroscience class. If I did not try as hard as I did, I would have not gotten an A. I spent my weekends studying and reading the text over and over since his PowerPoints were not clear. He would ramble on and on which led to confusion. If you read the text, you will get an A
Pretty rude professor. I reached out to Mike for help when I was failing his class. Instead of giving me help, he judged me and gave me criticism instead.
He is a great person and really friendly. But this was hands down the hardest class I've ever taken. You study all week non stop and still barely pass, he is the type of professor who tries to confuse you with "the best answer". If you don't want to be stressed all quarter don't take this class
Mana is a nice guy and his lectures are ok, but he can go off on tangents (which he includes on the tests). His tangents are loosely related and can confuse the subject more. He also treats this class like an upper-level psych class, when it's not. He's not nice about if you're failing or struggling. Be prepared to study and work like never before.
He is a great lecturer and loves what he does. Make sure to attend class and take good notes, as things in lecture are on exams. Also read the textbook and take notes, things that you read will be on exams even if it is not heavily covered in lecture.
Mana is great and he definitely goes out of his way when it comes to explaining. However, the tests are difficult because there is so much material and there is no study guide either. Other than that, he's a great prof. but it can be a hard class if you don't study right.
Mana is probably my favorite professor I've had at Western. He genuinely cares about his students, and checks in regularly regarding comprehension and stress levels- he's totally willing to move exams around for various reasons. He's personable, a great lecturer, and has lots of office hour slots. His exams are not easy, but they are fair. 10/10!
Mana is a really educated professor. He knows his stuff, which is great, but it seems like sometimes he forgets that his students are just beginning to learn what he is so familiar with. He does manage to keep his lectures rather engaging, despite some of the dense material. Read the parts of the chapters he highlight in the syllabus.
Mana is one of the best professors I've ever had. He knows his stuff, he's easy to get along with, he expects you to do well but also is available to help out. Great with answering questions and knows how to explain concepts that are hard to get. If you have the chance to take a class with him, do it. You'll do well if you're good @ memorization.
My disability made attendance to his class hard and my test grades suffered because of it. I was failing and eventually met with Mike. He was very harsh and rude to me. He questioned my disability and I felt like he wasn't compassionate or understanding whatsoever. Instead of offering to help me, he told me to withdraw from the class.
He is incredible at teahcing
When it comes to 220, you get out of it what you put in. I spent a lot of time studying, reviewing, and went to every exam review (which he hosts!!) science isn't my strong suit but i did really well in the class, largely bc I knew that Mana cared about my success too. I felt really supported, which for an 85 student lecture is rare. TAKE HIM.
Mike was a truly lovely prof. I enjoyed his lectures and he always had an incredible supporting story or tangent. There were no in-class finals and just three paper assignments total. As well as a few online quizzes. It was really such a nice class every Honors student should take him!
I took this class the first time and got a D, but I'm retaking the class now and have an B+. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT QUIZZES. GO TO CLASS. PRINT OUT THE SLIDES TO TAKE NOTES ON THEM. I only skimmed the text. Just by doing those things I'm getting a B+ compared to a D. Mana is a great professor and his lectures are engaging.
Mana is amazing! He is probably my favorite professor here. His lectures are interesting, the tests are fair, and he even hosts exam reviews prior to exams. It is obvious he cares about his students' success, and he is very passionate about neuroscience. If you do the optional quizzes, go to class, review weekly, and read, you will be fine.
Mana was great. Not an easy A but not that hard either as long as you do the reading and go to class, simple. Keeps an 8:30 AM class engaging with all the videos and cool visuals. Study the slides esp the images, and don't worry too much about the book content. As long as you read through it once you should be fine.
Great professor with super interesting and funny lectures. Has a focus on neuroscience, which I thought was fascinating but also very challenging. tests are fair but require a lot of studying as they cover a lot of material.
Mana is a professor that is obviously passionate and very knowledgeable about psychology. He makes his lectures engaging and helps students by offering study tips, general guidance, and welcoming everyone to ask questions. You will need to study regularly and read the text to get good grades on his tests.
For my first class at Western, Mana was an excellent professor to have! He's made Intro to Psych enjoyable and interesting that I'm considering double-majoring with English and Psych. He leans toward the neuroscience field of Psychology, but I plan on taking Behavioral Neuroscience with him. He's very open and understanding of students lives.
pay attention to what he talks about during his lectures, don't just take notes on the slides.
Mana is a really cool psych professor! He doesn't give homework, just weekly quizzes on Canvas. Some quiz/test questions are "specific to the textbook," but I barely read the textbook and still got A's on both the exams. Overall, Mana teaches a very fun and easy psychology class.
Can do most out of class but tests help when part of class
Mana was a great professor who really wants to see you succeed. Do the reading, take good notes on the lectures, study, and attend study groups to secure an A in the class.
Mike is an amazing professor with interesting and engaging lectures. There are assigned reading assignments before each lecture, I suggest reading and taking notes on those before going to class so that you can just write extra notes in class and aren't struggling to write everything down. Its not a very hard class but I worked 24-32 hours a week:(
Good teacher with a great personality and lectures, but, the tests were way too hard for a 101 class. The class is graded on 3 tests and you can gain a 3 percent extra credit boost. The average for this class for this class in fall 2018 was a 75 percent.
Very hard class!!! LOTS of reading. Great professor though, made an 8:30 class fun.
Entertaining lectures and meaningful office hours make up for an 8:30 start time and 275 person class size. While it intimidated me at first, I began to enjoy the class more when I did outside reading and when I met Mana at his office hours. I hear his lectures are more neuroscience based than other psych teachers, but I liked that more anyways.
good guy good class. best teacher freshman year
Meh. Professor Mana was okay at best. The lectures were pretty boring. I was able to learn more from the textbook. He is available to speak with during office hours, which is a plus, but he can speak condescendingly towards students.
Not a huge history fan but Mana makes it manageable. If you have to take the class Mana is the way to go
Mana is very interesting and knows what he's talking about. My only problem with this class was that it was based on only 3 exams and these exams were extremely difficult. He adds tangents to his exams and he does NOT give study guides. He also focuses on the biological side of psychology more than mind or behavior. A lot of memorization of parts.
hard in the beginning but reading helps.
Easily one of the best teachers I've ever had. Mana is great at giving memorable lectures, with fun stories sprinkled in that help you remember information. He is very knowledgeable, and is great at answering questions. tests pull info from lectures and the book, and only 3 tests contribute to your grade. awesome class, made me excited for psych!
Mana is the hardest PSY teacher at WWU, he is very lecture heavy and you are only graded on 3 tests throughout the quarter. Although he said the final wasn't cumulative, IT WAS! His lectures are very scientific and VERY fast paced. His PSY 101 class was the hardest class I've taken so far. READ YOUR CHAPTERS and TAKE A LOT OF NOTES... or drop...
Although the class was hard and there was lots of studying to do, Mana was an awesome teacher and I enjoyed being in class. He's a really good lecturer and very approachable. If you are confused he will always explain things for you again and in different ways. This class would've been impossible for me with a boring lecturer
I had Mana almost two years ago for Psy101, so I knew what to expect (even for an online modality). I did find that there was more of a focus on tangents, which for a 200-level intro to neurosci class not to be enjoyable (granted, neurosci isn't my focus in psych). However, I still enjoyed this class and if you are awake at 8am I recommend him
This class (honors psych colloquium) was delightful. No tests, we were graded mostly on short writing assignments based on reading, and group projects. Class was slow to start sometimes, lack of structure could be frustrating, but once Mana gets started he's an amazing lecturer & SO caring and easygoing. If you're interested in BNS, take from Mana!
I totally loved this class. Took it in 6 weeks over the summer at 8 am each day and I would do it over again. He knows what he's talking about and is always happy to answer questions. He uses the best stories to help you remember the content and was VERY clear about where his test questions would come from.
The class was online so I don't know what it's like in person. It was pretty easy. Mana is friendly, but some of the test and lecture materials don't match. It was frustrating and confusing. The class could also be much more organized. Some of it was unclear, especially the test questions.
I took this course during Covid-19. Mana is a nice guy but not a great professor. Everything in his class is "fair game," so you have to pay attention to his lectures when he goes off weird tangents. His class is only based on exams, and quizzes are extra credit. You have to make sure you read as well.
Mana has a good personality and is clearly passionate about psych. It's more neurosciency vs how i learned ap psych in hs. Wouldn't take again because he lectured too much during classes and wouldn't answer the questions clearly. If you're not prepped for lectured based learning don't take him.
I took this class during covid. Maybe in person is better but through zoom it was hard to get through lectures.
Mana was a nice and interesting prof IMO. Liberal with extensions whenever I asked for them. Classes were mostly lecturing with people asking questions occasionally. Lots of reading, group presentations, essays, and essay-MC quiz combos, so workload is quite heavy. He's an easy grader though, so if you try on the assignments you'll likely be fine.
Mana is the best, I took this course at 8 am and he's somehow sooooo awake and ready for the day. I really struggled with the course and understanding the subject matter, but office hours were really helpful for me. He is very funny and engaging, and has THE BEST mustache.
Mana is an excellent prof IMO. Hes super friendly and tries his best to be understanding- overall just a cool person. The lectures in this course basically just go deeper into the most important parts of the chapter, and thats around 85% of what youll be tested on; so while attendance isnt required I would say its definitely necessary.
mana was a good teacher especially for moving online a day before school started. mana is engaging and fairly funny so his lectures werent as boring as they couldve been. honestly this class isnt too bad as long as you READ and ATTEND CLASS, as he refers to specific things/tangents mentioned in class on quizzes and even tests.
Prof Mana talks a lot. There are 4 tests and nothing more. Seems basic. Ugh the mustache.
Mana is a great professor to learn from and to interact with. I would totally recommend taking upper level neuroscience classes with him.
He has a great personality. He’s very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject, and is very understanding and easy to approach. However, the entire grade is based on 4 exams that are multiple choice. Sometimes they are very badly worded and quite confusing. My grade of an A definitely will be down to the wire. Very dense coursework as well.
Best prof ever, always answered questions with really good examples and was super helpful with homework. Content can be difficult if you don’t study.
He was super friendly and helpful!
(Taken in 2020) Nice guy, but difficult class to get through, especially for a 101. The course is lecture heavy and graded on 3 tests with few extra credit opportunities. He takes a neuroscience approach and goes on many tangents, meaning that we usually didn't get through lectures on time, and he'll put things he said in passing on the tests
(Taken Summer Quarter), Mana was a really great professor and made class enjoyable to show up at 8am for. Class was solely graded off of exams with extra credit options of a quiz and papers. The exams weren't terribly hard, he wants you to do well, but do the reading AND show up to class because he has things in the exams from both.
Mana's a pretty laid-back, easygoing guy who likes having discussions in class. He goes on tangents a lot; listen carefully and take notes if you need to. Makes lots of jokes and keeps lectures entertaining. There's only four exams throughout the quarter that you can't go into blind, so make sure you study beforehand. Overall a decent class.
Mana is one of the best professors I have ever had. Super funny, very knowledgeable about the subject he teaches, and has so much passion for the topic. I wish he taught ever class I have to take.
Awesome!
During this class we were given four tests, the three midterms and the final were the only things graded. There were about two extra credit assignments and quizzes every week that counted for that too. He was a funny guy, however he would go on random tangents, which were included in the tests. The tests also were fairly hard, so be ready to study.
Mana is very personable, almost too much. Lots of personal tangents. Passionate about psychology. Heavy slides that can be overwhelming. Pay attention and study your notes often and you can do well on his quizzes/tests. Lectures can be hard to pay attention to due to his distracting personal stories. Overall easy enough class. Would recommend.
An absolute legend.
Dr. Mana is the single best teacher I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. His obvious passion for the material is fully apparent in his lectures, and he has a great sense of humor. If you are okay with a class that is graded almost exclusively based on tests, take it with Dr. Mana.
Prof. Mana's lectures were unorganized, and he'd often go on tangents; lectures moved slow and he'd barely get through any of his slides. Most of what I learned I had to teach myself using the textbook. The exams were either niche questions from his tangents, or stuff you had to know from the textbook. Your entire grade relies entirely on 4 exams.
Can be a bit disorganized and all over the place, but very personal and engaging in his lectures so it makes up for it. I can tell that he is very passionate about what he teaches and puts in a lot of effort into getting to know his students.
His teaching style was a great match for my visual learning style, he was very understanding and if we didn't get to a topic in lecture he never tried to cram it in like other profs have in my experience. He also was hilarious and his passion for psychology shows. Attend the optional reviews, they're so helpful.
I met with Mike Mana in 2014 to plan for the psych major. My GPA was 2.7, and instead of offering guidance to improve it, he told me to pursue "general studies" degree - essentially a degree with no specific focus. It felt dismissive and damaged my confidence. I graduated with a B.S. in psych anyway, but his advice lacked support and empathy.
