BORING CLASS, Prof, if very helpfull always available, Tests are impossible, and every two week with a computer assignment, I would not reccomend this class to somone who has to just to a stats requirement. It is way to hard for that..
A nice guy but not an amazing lecturer. The subject istself is highly interesting but sometimes it seems that he's struggling to fill the hour twenty.

He is a very helpful teacher with lots of patience.
Great teacher. Enthusiastic. Clear. Makes the material understandable.

VERY NICE
Good teacher.. not much work just two papers and some scan tests, but they aren't that hard... very nice guy, but kind of hard to understand because he talks really loud and then really soft.
gives 5 tests, counts only your best four. tests are open book, multiple choice, and he hasnt changed them in years. also assigns 4 easy projects that can be completed in the library clusters in 10 minutes. will be more than willing to offer help after class or during office hours. rarely takes attendance.
he is a great teacher, provides many examples, repeats himself several times, entertaining. has open book exams, 5 of them, only accepts 4 of them. you have 4 module assignments which are sooo easy!! he gives a take home review before the exam, which is EXACTLY like the exam, not the same questions, but basically the same concept. great teacher!
Lectures are kinda boring, but he is a nice guy and the class is very easy, not a large work load at all. The tests are open book and pretty basic. He really understands that alot of people will never use this stuff again so doesn't make your life a living hell. Nice Class.
Really nice guy! Very dry sense of humor:) No homework which is amazing!!!

Great guy -- usually out of class early, open book exams, drops your lowest exam grade; great dry sense of humor. No homework. Definitly recommend, especially if not a huge math person/fan of stats.
Can have a funny sense of humor but you won't get much out o lecture at all... you're better off reading the book and doing the work on your own. Wouldn't recommend.
Funny guy, not a great professor. Presents the materialy too fast and doesn't spend time to explain stuff. No homework is graded but if you don't do it, you're screwed...
BAD!!! I really really didn't like this class! I thought the tests were hard and that I didn't learn anything in class, I had to teach myself from the book! then also, everyday was a lecture and you knoooow you can't learn anything from those. all in all I was glad when it was over and I wouldn't recommend the class. He's a funny guy though...
didnt teach from the book but then tested by the book. if you want to do well in this class dont go to class, just read the chapters and you'll do fine. i actually knit during his lectures and got an A
If you want an easy psych stats professor you want mangan. This course is so easy, all the tests are open book and he doesn't even care if you write on the book for more notes. The tests are 15 questions. 5 tests total, drops lowest grade, except the final. Does do attendance and some simple SPSS assignments. TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT AN EASY A!!!!
Easy class. Don't go to lectures, they're pretty much useless. Just read read the chapters. He's not very engaging. Nice guy though.
Solid class, his teaching isnt incredible, but you dont need him to do well in this class. He gives you learning objectives, if you can memorize those there's no way u get less than a 80, lectures are pretty pointless, use the book.
Easy class if you don't mind actually reading the book. Lectures are completely pointless. Once someone asked him a question and he responded, "I only know the general ideas." I stopped going to class after that.
He says there is no such thing as a "dumb question" but when people ask him questions he acts like they're dumb. Its nice that class always gets out early but hes not very helpful, seems like he doenst like to teach or something. Didn't like stats to begin with but he doesnt make it that easy.
Nice guy... not too difficult, but if you miss class too often you'll get lost. The exams aren't too bad...they're open book, but they're short so if you make a small mistake you're screwed. He gives helpful assignments relevant to topics on exams though which make exams easier if you look at them. Recommend it if you need to take Psyc stats.
Mangan seems like a pretty cool guy outside of class, but he seems unenthusiastic about the material. Workwise, the class is easy because there's no homework, but in turn it makes you unprepared for the exams. He's often unclear which can make the material confusing. Wouldn't recommend if you're not a natural at math.
Terrible teacher. He only teaches off power-points, you have to read the book if you want to pass. Don't bother studying off the power-points either. He tests from the book not his lechures. Class is pointless.
He gives open book tests but it's a good idea to mark up your book with highlighting and sticky notes so that you have enough time to finish them. He understands that no one really likes statistics so he just does what he needs to do to make sure he exposes us to the material. Easy class, but its a pain.
A bad teacher. He lectures off of the PowerPoints, which can be downloaded off of Blackboard. He extends what should be a ten-minute scan of the PowerPoint by yourself into an 80-minute class. If participation wasn't worth 10% of the grade, I wouldn't bother going. The book is never used and isn't necessary, so don't bother buying it.
Not a great teacher. His powerpoints have little to do with the test so don't bother taking too many notes. Going to class would be pointless if it wasn't for the random participation days. Just read the book and teach yourself the information. Don't bother going to office hours.
He is very boring. He speaks very quietly too. His lectures are purely off his objectives from his power point slides so just study those. The only reason I attended class was because he randomly does participation points with index cards, otherwise its not necessary. Book is not really necessary if you use the power point slides.
easy to learn. he gets excited and draws on the board to diagram everything you need to know. Willing to answer any questions. Open book tests are great if you remember to mark up what you need.
It's an easy class but very boring. I liked psychology before I had this class and now I really don't. You'll learn what you need to and you'll probably get a good grade but be prepared to fight off sleep by any means necessary. It wasn't uncommon for a good third of the class to be asleep and there were only 20ish of us...so he could really tell
solid professor, reads off lecture notes most of the time. Definitely focus on objectives for tests b/c thats all the exams are on. USELESS outside class - I went to go over the 1st exam and spent literally 40 mins very awkwardly waiting for him to find my test in his messy office. He didnt even find it!! Would reccommend him though.
Really really easy for statistics, was a great guy. I WOULD RECOMMEND. Just gets to the point and its open book! exams are only 15 questions so make sure you have everything marked in your book and your set
Great psych teacher. He has a lot of experience and goes over things really well. Objectives keep tests pretty straight forward. Along with practice problems in the book.
One of the worst professors at UNH. He tries to be cool and swear infront of the class. He reads off the slids and is very boring. Thank god I have a strong passion for Psychology otherwise I'd change my major to something else because this man gives psychology a bad name. Don't go to his office hours, he's not even close to being helpful.
He is such a nice guy! His materials were very easy. He made everything easy to follow. I would recommend him to anyone.
Listen, this guy is a good teacher not the worst. I like his style, and that is he reads off the slides and introduces the subjects and it is YOUR job to learn it by reading the book. He has it setup so that how you do in his class is completely on how hard you work. Some people don't get how it works in his class so thats why you see bad comments.
I truthfully can't stand Mangan. His classes are SO boring, which is reflected by the attendance (I'd say about 1/4 of students attend regularly). He reads from slides which are copied verbatim from the book. He has three random participation "quizzes" which make some students (such as myself) attend every class. Can't stand this surfer bro.
Mangnan is a nice guy, and an okay professor. Though he tends to go on rants in lecture about things not necessarily connected to the lesson, he is interested in Psychology. Exams are extremely easy, especially if you follow the Learning objectives he details each class. Easy A and a nice guy overall.
Psych 401 was really easy having taken AP in high school. Prof. Mangan didn't take attendance, but make sure you have a "buddy" so you know when the participation-point days are. Follow his powerpoints on blackboard and you'll get an A. Easy class overall. Easy Gen-Ed.
Great professor. Can sometime be hard to follow during lecture, as he tends speed through things. However, if you read the book, and do the practice problems, you will do fine. He is very helpful if you go to him during office hours.
This class is a pretty easy gen-ed. Really hard to focus sometimes though because his voice drones on in lecture. Overall nice guy. If you study from the power point slides you'll do fine.
A professor who is straight forward with his test and his students. Just wish he didn't rush through and cram materials for the exams of his students and expects us to know something. Gives alot of opportunities with his extra credit, and has a great sense of humor. Take his class!
He makes things straight-forward enough - allows notecards on tests and hands out nice practice problem sets. He's great if you understand right off, aloof/not too helpful in office hours. Best off reviewing the book & practice problems if you don't understand. Non-math activities help w grade. Attendance taken via sign-up sheet.
Very unorganized. Test are hard, and has messy hand writing you cannot be able to read.Test are worth 50% and he makes the other 50% of your grade hard enough that I rather take the test. Would not recommend.
Mangan seems to be a nice enough guy but he is not a good teacher. His objectives in the class are unclear and that makes exams very difficult. Even if you go see him in office hours, he doesn't help you understand why you got answers wrong.. just that you "should have known." Don't take Psyc 401 with him if you can avoid it ]:
He is a nice guy but i hated him. Your grade is is 80% of your tests and I failed all of them because they were impossible and they do not match up to the powerpoints, don't take this class with him
Really easy class, really good teacher. He's funny and explains stuff well.
Great guy and a good class. As long as you go and pay attention and put a little effort in you should do well. Funny enough I took this class a couple years ago and he mentioned that he was doin a study on rate my professor so he's probably reading all of these haha.
Nice, funny guy and great class. Tests can be kind of tricky but he tells you exactly what is going to be on it with the using what you know sheets. Some things can be slightly hard to follow but he has no problem clearing them up. When I took the class all of our tests were open book and we could use note sheets (including the final).
Mike Mangan was a great professor and I would take him for another class in a heart beat. His exams were all mc and pretty easy. Knew the material but was boring with it at times. Final was hard.
Terrible teacher, terrible class.Avoid at all cost! He teaches you information, "tells you" what's going to be on the test, his questions are so confusing you can barely understand them. Went for help during office hours, and the only advice he gave me was to study harder... I studied for three weeks before each test and still didn't do well.
I love Mangan. I took 2 classes with him this semester and I would absolutely take him again. His handwriting sucks but the equations are in the book too. He is one of the quiet people that is extremely hilarious. Plus he's a surfer and in a band. Come on people. So chill.
Mangan is the man. Tests are multiple choice and he shows a ton of videos in class. He tries to make everything interesting and you can tell he likes what he does.
Avoid at all cost.
Mangan gets a TERRIBLE rap.. He's a great teacher, an overall awesome guy, and he'll provide help for those who ask. Yes- you actually do need to do some work besides what he presents in class. To say that he's a boring, impossible teacher means that you're a lazy psych student destined to fail because you simply don't care to do a little work.
He is somewhat boring but he's a great professor. If you go to lecture you don't really need to use the book at all(i haven't at least). The tests are all multiple choice and if you study are pretty easy. Quizzes are online, and so are his power points so if you use the power points on the quiz they're easy.
I had my doubts about how interesting Social Psyc would be but after taking it with him I enjoyed every class and was actually a class I looked forward to going to. He's extremely helpful and his class is the most straightforward class as far as the work you need to do since I've been in college. He's much better in this class than in PSYC 401.
Mangan is such a good professor. His exams are really easy if you answer the essential questions that he provides for you. He has online quizzes that are easy and are a good grade booster! Overall, I loved the class.
Huge lecture which I like. Quizzes are online and helped my grade EXTREMELY because you can study and do them with friends.
Very easy class, not a lot of work to get an A. The professor can be boring and moves very slowly
His intro class is easy, but he was totally unhelpful and rude. I had a bad experience in his class and wouldn't take a course with him again.
Can't do math/stats and didn't learn stats at all, but he is chill and lenient enough that I passed...If I have to use this information later though I'm done for. Students that are naturally okay at math though would excel
I am so grateful that I didn't look on here before I took this class because he was my favorite teacher from my entire semester. He is engaging and humorous and I'm honestly not sure why there are bad reviews. I enjoyed his class thoroughly and am taking another with him next semester. If I were you, I would.
Mangan honestly might be the worst professor. He never stops talking, no one in class understands what we are learning and he is a horrible horrible grader. AVOID
Awesome professor, but kind of hard to pay attention. Always ends class early so there's time to do optional work. Open textbook exams, and he tells you to write your notes on sticky notes and put them in the book. No homework and super nice and chill.
So funny and really wants you to understand the material. I don't know why other people have given him lower ratings, even if you're "naturally bad at math" he would love to help you and gives you every opportunity to succeed. Great professor.
He is a very nice, chill guy but an awful teacher... Goodluck if you have him as a teacher. His notes are no help at all, they are not specific. He flys through it and you cant even get a chance to write it down and understand it. His tests are so hard and the way he words them makes it impossible to understand.
Tests are very hard and lectures can be long to sit through. All coursework is online except for exams and 6 in-class "mini quizzes (2questions). Don't need to go to class to pass.
I had him for Intro to Psych and Psych Stats. All the quizzes are online and he gives out great study guides for the tests. If you go to class, its an easy A. And he's also super nice and funny. Highly recommended!!!
I really enjoyed him. You have to study but the tests are all multiple choice and pretty easy. you don't have to go to class, everything is on blackboard except for in class videos that require participation, but he will let you know in advance. loved him and hes a cutie
Mangan is a great teacher. He gives you a crystal clear outline for the tests. So glad I took his class. Most lectures were interesting. He gives extra credit opportunities. Chill guy
Mangan was a really cool guy and his class was almost embarrassingly easy. I don't know about his intro to psych class but his psych stats class was a joke. He didn't seem to know a lot about stats but he didn't have to. All exams are open book and he gives you everything you need to get an A. Take this class with him. Trust me.
Mangan is the man! 402 exams were all open book. I did well in both of his classes. He is very clear. Show up to class, PAY ATTENTION, review your notes a couples days before exams and you will do just fine. Only needed book for 402, NOT 401!
great teacher!!! take the class!!!!!
LOVE HIM! Makes the long lectures interesting. Very inspirational and willing to help you with anything. Tests are reasonable just study the learning objectives and you will be fine.
Absolutely fantastic. Very kind and funny. Sometimes his lecture can go on and on a bit when the class is an hour and 20 minutes, but overall he is absolutely fantastic. Made everything so simple and easy to understand!
1010 would take a class with him again :)
Mike is a overall a good professor. Hard to get to know him due to the size of the lecture. But very approachable if asked for help. It is important to do the reading for his class and watch his video lectures. However do NOT read word for word every chapter. Just read the course objectives and you should be fine.
He is an awesome professor! Definitely have to work hard in the class but it was so interesting. I've taken him twice now because I really enjoy his lectures. Tests aren't too bad at all
Such a funny guy. Classes can be a little hard to sit through but only because it is a huge lecture hall. Very good professor and keeps class interesting. I learned a lot from his classes. Quizzes were easy and exams weren't too bad. Such a positive person to be around twice a week!
Mangan is a great professor. You can tell that he wants all his students to pass. There is no homework and all the quizes are online along with the final exam. His exams are very straight forward so if you understand the basic concepts of the material then you will do very well. I'd reccomend Mangan to anyone!
Took this class as a J-Term and was the easiest class I have taken at UNH. I put a lot of work into it for a long 3 weeks but received an A. If you put the work in, you wont regret it.
I am not very good with any kind of mathematical or scientific concept of equations, and I was going to fail the class. He absolutely wants to see his students excel, and he worked with me. I not only passed the final in the high 90's, but actually understand the concepts. . He will help is he sees you are working. Open book tests.
I'm the opposite of a strong math student and I did well only because I prepared for the worst. Tests and quizzes are open book (not open note) and he staggers the exam worth (first test - 10%, second - 15%, etc.) There are four exams and he gives you your final early. No homework and he can get really confusing sometimes.
awesome professor! would definitely take a class with him again!
He was honestly hilarious and a super nice guy. Im awful at math but finished the class with a B+. I would recommend his class if you need the psych stats requirement fulfilled.
I never went to class because all of his lectures are online. When I did go to class, the lectures were long and pointless. Basically I taught myself the concepts but they a re really easy. He is a really nice guy, I just did not find class helpful
Great professor. He is genuinely interested and excited about teaching psychology.
I had Mike Mangan as my psychology 401 professor and he was amazing. He puts all of the lecture slides online so you dont really need to go to lecture, but if you do theyre really interesting and hes very passionate. Quizzes are all online and open book and test questions come directly from these. No homework. Great class!
He is a good professor however unclear at times and flies through the lectures. However, he is very assessable outside of class and understanding, I never took a statistics class and I did fine
he's a really good professor. only negative is that he can be boring and go too fast. positives are that he is easy to talk to and caring towards students. if you have taken a stats class before, it will be a breeze. if you haven't, it might require more effort. all tests are open book but they are weighted heavy so you have to do well on them.
You MUST have a book for the tests, they're open book and you need the formulas. Use an actual stats calculator on the tests, way better than a scientific. If you're decent at math and do the practice problems you will get an A. You have to sign an attendance sheet once a week for a participation grade so probably a good idea to show up.
Terrible teacher, learned nothing from his class. Taught myself everything through the book and youtube videos. He does not know how to teach well at all.
His lectures were extremely wordy, and most days it seems like he talked just to fill up more time. But, he was also very willing to help if you needed it.
He's a nice guy but a bad teacher. He came in after our previous teacher had to leave because of medical reasons and I went from feeling very confident in math to hearing pig latin. His teaching is messy and his thought patterns make sense to him but not us students. He encourages questions but theres a point when you're just beating a dead horse.
This class is extremely easy if you do the online quizzes and use the book for exams. The lectures are fairly boring but he goes through the material slow enough for everyone to understand. He's accessible outside of class and is very nice. If you do the small amount of work he requires for this course and do well on the exams, it's an easy A.
I thought he was a great teacher and I learned a lot, but he can ramble and classes are pretty boring. The course is very organized and follows the same structure weekly which I liked. The exams are open-book and multiple choice and I thought they were all easy. There's not too much homework. Read the book, go to class, and study- easy A for QR.
He was an awesome Professor! All quizzes are online and the work load isn't bad. I skipped a few lectures because all of his slides are online so never fell behind. You can tell her is passionate about psych. No midterm and final ended up being online at home which was really nice.
Love this guy! Asynchronous online class - records lectures and assigns work at the beginning of the week and lets you do it on your own time as long as it is in by the deadline. Discussion boards, open note quizzes and exams are super easy. Prof. Mangan wants his students to succeed and is straightforward about expectations.
I hated this class. I usually love math, but he made me hate it. When I went into office hours to ask for help, he made me feel stupid for asking. When I asked my dad (who is also a statistics professor) for help with coursework, he said that the way Prof. Mangan teaches makes no sense and seems to be designed to make things harder.
Class was fine, fairly easy especially for a 500 level. The guy's lectures are drier than the sahara unfortunately, which is a shame because the subject matter is actually interesting. Solid pick overall.
Great professor! He makes stats easy even if youre not great a math. He offers extra credit every week. Hes always helpful when you ask questions. Textbook can be downloaded online for free! Dont bother to get the secondary reading book that he requires, we never used it
Great person, terrible professor. I really liked stats in hs but something about this class just made me not want to go. He wants you to do well and encourages questions and help but just an awful teacher. I heard that he is better at teaching actual psychology. Kind of wish he taught in class instead of having to watch videos lectures,
This class sucked no cap. We had to watch the lectures before going to class and they were unclear and made the quizzes/tests so hard. The quizzes and tests were open notes but the notes just were not helpful. Maybe this class would have been better if he actually taught the material but I heard psyc402 was easy and it just wasn't. Don't take him.
there seems like there is an exam every other week. There are 5 total, 5% of your grade each, and when you ask him for help he is rude and does not actually help
Professor Mangan is a great Professor, he is very caring and wants his students to do well. He's always willing to help and is very accommodating. His voice can be monotone sometimes, but other then that I would 100% recommend.
This professor is awesome. He has been teaching this course for years and is very good at what he does. It's a flipped model where the lectures are online and in class you do practice problems and he is there to help and answer questions. One day a week is class and the other is extra credit. Just show up, watch the lectures and do the work.
All of his lectures are online. If you don't keep up with it, you basically screw yourself over. He doesn't answer emails if you reach out to him and makes you go through Inbox in Canvas which is not convenient at all. He just expects you to know what you're doing at all times and if you don't he doesn't do anything to help you. Don't take.
Very good
The class was very structured/organized so it was easy to follow along with what had to be done. There are a lot of quizzes and tests in this class, but the schedule follows the same pattern so it's easy to follow along. There are also PSR days (optional) where you can get extra time to work on some problems which is helpful. Tests were open note.
Spring '22 all quizzes, tests, and the 4 assignments were online, open book, and outside of class. You only have to go to class 1 of the 2 class times/week (participation points). He was awkward when lecturing which could be boring or come off as passive-aggressive, but he has good intentions. Don't bother buying the books, you won't use them.
Professor Mangan the man
Professor Mangan was a good professor for this class. No one really wants to take 502, however, it's required for the psyc major. He took attendance in every class and need to be present to get credit for the in-class assignments. 8 question "tests" on canvas every week open book/answers on Quizlet, 100 question canvas/quizlet exam. Just show up!
Mangan is kind but he accepts no late work, at all. This is expected in college, but I do feel that things do happen which can lead to a late assignment/missing class. No extra credit was offered through the course either. He grades hard and will knock off points during discussion posts if he feels you do not respond to other students well enough.
great professor
Very likable and wants his students to do well. It does seem like he just talks sometimes to fill the 80 minutes, and his powerpoints are normally around 10 slides so I've definitely gotten bored and zoned out. Most of your grade is based on in-class assignments, some are dropped, and easy weekly quizzes. Final is on canvas in person w/ notes
Really nice guy. The only criticism I have is that he can talk for a really long time about a concept that would take two min or less to explain. Lots of opportunities to boost your grade and almost everything is online and open note. He will help you with anything you need and is great at communicating with students.
Pretty good professor. Almost everything is online and open note. The only thing is you do have to watch the lectures before coming to class and during class, he just goes over those concepts so if you don't watch the videos you're going to be confused. He explains things well and is a super nice and approachable guy.
Although outside of class he seems like a good guy, avoid taking him for this course at all costs. His lectures are long, boring, and somehow manage to not cover the material that is more difficult. Instead, Mangan rambles on about personal experiences in a monotone voice making the hour and 20 minutes you sit there abosolutely meaningless.
The class is split into two different days, lecture & hands-on, which helps keep the class somewhat engaged. There are weekly quizzes that you can take from your dorm & a final exam. The final writing assignment was not explained well & confusing to write. He is a nice guy and it was easy to pass, but his class is not very interesting.
The class is very easy and Mangan is a great guy, but very boring. The quizzes are weekly but all online. He clearly cares about the material
The class is a bit dry, but Mangan is a helpful prof. Use unstuck study, ChatGPT, and Quizlet for study prep - it really helps make the content more engaging. Attendance is mandatory, but the grading is fair.
I took Intro to Psych as a discovery course. He was an okay professor, nothing terrible, nothing special. His lectures just re-stated everything in the textbook, so there's no point in doing the readings. I appreciated the online quizzes.
Very nice professor would def take a class with him, good at giving criticism on papers, stats, etc.
Mike can come off as very condescending. He often went on tangents about how we are not prepared for jobs and the expectations employees are held to, yet showed up to almost every lecture late. If you read the textbook, you will not gain much from the lectures. However, the class is easy and it is clear what you need to do for credit.
The people saying that he goes on a lot of tangents are very correct. However, he is an incredibly kind professor. Very forgiving as long as you put in the necessary work. His grading criteria is clear and he sets students up for success
He's kind of dry and hard to listen to. Nice guy but loves hearing himself talk. He wasn't very clear on what he expected for the term paper which is an integral part of the course.
He's an overall nice guy with good intentions but you basically have to teach yourself. Allows 6 absences per semester. If you ask a question chances are you'll either get the answer within like three seconds but he'll keep going on and on for a while, or he'll just keep talking about things that aren't relevant to the question. Don't buy the book.
Seems like a great guy but tbh his lectures are sooo boring. I didn't really pay attention, but even if I did I wouldn't be able to focus for long. Pretty monotoned chill guy. So chill that I would almost sleep in class. You get like 6 free skips so thats nice. Little quizzes are posted every week but everything was online so it was super easy.
He was honestly an okay professor, but he just talks a lot. I basically had to teach myself most of everything because when I would ask him questions, he would just skim the surface and barely even explain it. The only tests we really had were online, and it was quite easy once you wrap your head around what is going on.
FIrst semester of psych the class was a joke, didnt do anything and you can get an easy A, everything was online. Alowed 6 absences and all the quizes are online even the final was too. He is really nice though
