Awesome Professor, helped me prep with MCAT
Lets just put it this way, I learned more from his class when I was a senior than I did in an equivalent physics course at UC-Irvine. I highly recommend him as a teacher. Very effective in teaching the concepts.
Prof. Mike is one of the best prof I have come across ever since my high school years. AND ITS A GREAT THING. Prof. Mike is an amazing teacher, extremely intelligent, easy going, great teaching ethics, great sense of humour, and a great human being.

Great teacher, very nice! Put's students first. Lots of extra credit opportunities. I took the telecourse but did meet in class once a week.
this guy has a very good sense of humor, very intelligent guy, does his ultra best to make sure the student understands the material, highly recommended.

The class was hard. Those 100 question midterms were hard. He lets you use 1 page of notes for exams though.
Great teacher. Very fair in grading, and gives clear lectures. Teaches at the students' pace. His exams are straightforward and he allows you to drop your worst of three midterms.
Great professor. Tests were easy and straight forward. Got A's in both Ast 10 and Physics 2A. Clear lectures. He allowed a page a note for exams so don't need to memorize a lot. Highly recommended. He's also fun and understanding
This class is perhaps one of the hardest that I have taken at Evergreen. The lectures are comprehensive but utterly boring. He lectures for the whole length of the class and will rarely ever dismiss early. Take only if you're prepare to work hard. the first test we took, 80% of the class failed. I got an A for the class but not without work.
Class was hard. But surprisingly i got an A. He curved all the midterms and majority of the class failed all the midterm's. But after the curve most of the class would have passed. You must read the textbook ahead of his lecture to understand what he's lecturing about. Trust me read it and dont procrastinate !
He is a great teacher. You just have to go to class everyday take notes because his tests are off the lectures which are mostly covered in the book. His tests are not multiple choice but written questions and he can tell if u are BSing or not. If you go to class everyday there should not be a problem passing.
interesting lectures at the beginning, boring at the end. lots of hw assignments/readings that are useless on the tests. tests are not easy, but if you put something down he'll give partial/half credit. overall, a reasonably fun, interesting class with a knowledgeable teacher, but you'll have to really try hard if you want an A.
Masuda's lectures are very interesting and class goes by pretty fast before you know it. This semester, he is taking us to the observatory a lot and is quite enjoyable. His exams are straight-forward, most of them are based on the lectures and some are in the textbook. His class is interesting and worthwhile. Recommended if you want to learn.
Professor Masuda is really cool. I really like him. At first he seems all hard and plus I HATE SCIENCE! But i stayed till the end of the semester and passed with a B. I didn't go to class most of the time, well i did but i leave really early. DO ALL YOUR HOMEWORK (even if you A's your test) you must do the hw to get a high grade. I got D's on the t
Seriously..I gotta love his class. I never taken Physics until now. I thought this was gonna be a long, dull class. Boy, was I wrong. He makes an exciting environment with fun labs. Learning while have fun. Do all your work and take GOOD notes. You'll pass the class
Masuda is one of the best professors at EVC. He breaks everything down so that students can comprehend the material.I highly recommend him if you want to undertand Physics, makes it fun and interesting!
fun class, highly recomended
Mike is a great teacher. I had no interest in Astronomy, but really enjoyed this class. He explains things well, and if you are having trouble understanding something, he will take the time to explain it until you do. Recommend Highly!
Mr. Masuda is an excellent teacher. He is VERY helpful and explains thoroughly. He answers all of your questions and is willing to help out during and after class. He understands that not everyone learns at the same level so he takes his time when explaining the material. I highly recommend him. He is the best teacher at EVC
Very easy and the lab is fun because he will let you do anything you like after you are done with the assignment of the day.
Awesome teacher. I never actually needed his help, so he was absolutely useless when it came for that. His clarity was so crystal that I was able to go through the course. Also, I liked the class so much that I took the lab with him.
I would highly recommend Professor Masuda. He made Physics come to life and easily demonstrated the textbook concepts through lectures, labs, and online demonstrations. With his passion for the subject, the class was interesting and he is always willing to help. A useful resource.
I love this professor highly recommend him! He's one of the best professors at EVC. He's funny, energetic, outgoing, understanding. Physics 01, was not of my interest but he made it interesting! Take him he curves
He makes the material so easy to understand
One of the best professors I've ever had. He's super nice, makes the class interesting, a cool guy to talk to, and is pretty nice with his grading. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM.
Dude used to work at NASA. He knows his stuff and then some. Teaches it in a fun hands on practical way that you will understand. If you take any other teacher your a fool. One of the best professors I've ever seen.
I looked forward to going to his class. Great guy always encouraging curiosity and to use your noggin. I just wrapped up the class three days ago and I already miss it all kinds. Highly recommended. Make sure to attend class, do hw, be curious, and you'll pass smooth sailing.
super fair. super clear. super helpful. funny. no homework, read the book, take some notes. show up. tests are not too bad because he gives a study guide and reviews
Fantastic teacher!! Go to class, do the labs, and not only will you do fine, but you will learn some really cool things! Highly recommend him!!
Astronomy is a drab subject, but Masuda makes it pretty bearable. A former NASA employee, he is VERY knowledgeable and my favorite part of class was when he'd answer questions off-the-cuff. You'll write journals but he is a very lenient grader. If you take night class, you may get to use the telescopes on Montgomery Hill.
I loved learning about Physics! Mr. M made everything around us on how things worked and kept me on my feet to learn more. Labs were fun and worked as a group. He gives extra credit with participation when he asks for it and if you correct him on something he will also give extra credit. He also lets you create your own cheat sheet for tests.
This was my first time taking a community college course over summer and somehow I ended up choosing Astronomy. The professor was pretty awesome , in my opinion, and I enjoyed the learning experience :)
He is super nice and will take the effort to help you understand if you ask. It was over the summer, so the course went by really quickly, but his lectures were pretty clear and he used fun demonstrations/examples to get through four hours. Lectures were based off the textbook slides. Steady amount of work but doable.
He is a great teacher, gives dope feedback. Go to office hours tho
Super easy/lenient. Generous grading curve. Nice guy but kinda tired of teaching in general. Didn't learn a ton but got an easy A. Provides helpful review sheets for finals. There were 2 midterms, 1 final, an "insight journal," & mini-essay. Just take him, he's not amazing but you'll get an A.
The one thing that really bugs me is when professors give a review sheet for tests and less than half of it is useful. This guy does that and you end up focusing on studying stuff that isn't on the tests.
He's a wonderful teacher! Very smart and funny. He's well organized, and provides a resources on the lesson. He's a decent person, and easy to talk to if you need help.
Had him for both 010 & 010L. Professor Masuda/Master Masuda is an awesome professor whose love for the worlds beyond ours is quite contagious. He is very good at explaining theories involved with the expansion of the universe and he has a few really good jokes to share. He likes to curve his exams and is really helpful when it comes to questions!
If you have no interest in Astronomy do not take this class unless you're willing to read the entire textbook. Lecture heavy and only pro is he grades on curve but the con is all you need is as mart kid or cheater to get a high grade and everyone who did low gets screwed. Midterms consist nothing of study guide. Dont take unless willing to study +
Long story short. Unless you are willing to read the entire book word by word and are a complete study nerd. Do not take this class. First bad grade ive ever had in this class and I actually made an effort. Even if you like Astro you still don't learn. Teacher needs to make more of an effort in wanting to TEACH.
He's the best Physics prof at EVC. His lectures are very inspiring and make you want to learn more. His labs are very fun and lab reports get full credits as long as you turn them in. His exams are easy if you read the textbook and do hw. He grades super easily and gives partial credits. He also curves the grades, so you can't get bad grades.
the tests are extremely hard even though he gives a study guide for each one. you don't necessarily have to come to class but if you miss even 1 day you will miss like a whole chapter because all he does in class is lecture. the tests sometimes have things on it that wasn't even on the study guide.
Good professor, I took the class in the summer so the work load and difficulty level was insane compared to any of my previous classes. But he managed to explain most things well and I didn't usually get bored in class. Would recommend him for physics. Just wish he wouldn't use Pearson's Mastering Physics website
Nice professor who knows his stuff! Lectures drag on, the online homework access code was expensive, but he will answer any questions you have. Pay attention, show up, and you'll pass. The group project was a bit bothersome so don't procrastinate.
He is a good professor. He explains proofs and is okay in lectures. The labs help explain concepts taught in lecture. The homework is done on Mastering Physics, which is fairly easy. The exams are based on textbook problems. Those problems are not assigned so make sure to do them on your own time. His class is somewhat easy to understand but study!
Prof. Masuda does a really good job explaining concepts. The labs are very clear. The group project seemed daunting at first, but with some research and putting out a bit of time each week to work on it, it's very possible to do well. MasteringPhysics hw tedious but helps you learn. Tests based on challenging problems on Mastering & textbook.
The biggest part of his grade revolves around midterms. I hate it when teachers do this because it rarely ever correctly reflects what the student knows, it only reflects what he/she could memorize and cram into their brain. His review guide for the midterm is utterly useless. And to top it off, the homework assignments are worth only 10%! FAIL
Made physics much easier. Knows subject well. Too much hw in summer class. Could not keep up. Lectures long but very helpful. Lab is fun.
BEST science teacher ever! He is funny and teaches everything soooo clear. If you ever need help just ask and he will be there. I recommend you take this class if you want the easiest A++++ of your life!!!!
(PHYS 4B) He was not that great at explaining the material. Did not finish the course material and rushed through the last three chapters. Comprehensive final without any review. Makes you work on a project which is due on the day of the final. Returns the midterms after 4-5 weeks. Would not take him again.
He was okay up until the last few weeks of school. We had a midterm during the last 2 weeks of the semester and he shoved 2 long chapters in 2 class sessions before the final and still graded us on the material.
grading system is midterm heavy;hard to climb up when midterms and the finals are 100 questions of pure memorization. Study guides are barely useful as the tests has material that aren't study guide when they should be. A midterm was given to us on short-notice a week prior with the study guide posted 3 days before not having much time beforehand.
He let's you know about tests a week or a few days in advance & everything on the study guides aren't on the tests AT ALL. He makes us write in journals every class session like we are in 3rd grade. He tells us to put a lot of effort into the journals, but when collected he only glances at them for a few seconds. Only positive is the extra credit.
He gave us a final with questions from previous chapters that we not suppose to be on the final. Why take a class with a professor that doesn't go over his own test to see if anything is out of place.
Worst Professor ever.
Masuda was a super cool professor that had fun labs and interactive lectures with outside demonstrations. I had him over the summer so he was more lenient on grading, because he gave A LOT of assignments over the summer. My summer was pretty much a physics summer with nothing but homework and lab reports, but other than that the class was fun.
Honestly, as long as you go to class every day, you'll be fine. Your overall grade is on a curve, so as long as you do decently on the midterms and final (which you should since you get a cheat sheet), you'll pass, even if you don't turn in the homework.
Super awesome prof teaches the material very well. Tests can be easy if you work hard, do textbook problems and ask a lot of questions. Online can be real tough but try your best to pay attention. He curves almost everything and the class can be full of bad grades but just keep trying your best and youll pass.
I literally went to therapy for 4 years of my life for anxiety and depression and thought i was fine after 2 years, went into this class very hopeful and dropped this class and went back to therapy. :( doesnt show up to office hours, test are unnecessarily hard & overall makes such a fun subject very difficult to understand. Worst teacher!
He requires camera usage and blocks you from gaining extra credit if you don't have your camera on for the whole time, through out the school year. He also decided to change discussion question last minute three weeks till finals into essay questions just so it can be more "original". He also goes OVER CLASSTIME to finish what he wants to talk abt
Didnt finish in time so he crammed chapter 10-18 into the final exam and made it worth double, my grade dropped 11% because he didnt teach us a lot of the stuff and he made up a lot of the questions of the Final. Also lies about extra credit and doesnt curve grades, and grades late which causes your grade to drop even lower after the Final.
He crammed five chapters into the last couples weeks of the semester, gave us the study guide a week before the exam, & focused the questions on material that wasn't on the study guide. Also, tends to stay off topic a lot.
It seemed alright at first ,then the last couple of weeks became quite terrible. Everything was crammed in at once. No opportunities for extra credit were offered, and when one does try to ask, he does a while to respond, or does not respond at all. I would recommend finding another person to teach astronomy, for your sake.
This professors crammed Chapters 10,11,12,13,16,18 into our final and the last couple of chapters he rushed through due to lack of time. Lets also mentioned that he didnt offer extra credit. He isnt very responsive and at times you dont even want to talk to him because your afraid of hitting a nerve. Make sure to watch out for wrong answers.
I took his class during summer. It has lots of hw. Being summer it is very fast paced. If you want to take it during summer I would suggest not taking any other class as there is a lot of work if you really want to understand the subject and do well in the tests. He knows the subject inside out and is very passionate about teaching! Good professor!
He is a very standard teacher. Gets side tracked sometimes, and end of semester theres a bit of a rush to jam chapters in for the final. Dont expect him to be on schedule. Its honestly not too bad the tests are pretty much just the homework with a new coat of paint and the discussions are self explanatory. Do the homework and youll be fine.
all cool... until the end. This teacher is good at what he does, very understandable to the point of side railing. It was until the end of the course that he bombarded us with all the chapters for the end of the exam. Very stressful. Otherwise he is super solid. 10/10 cadence.
I took him for the regular astronomy class, the lab was different. I am sure he is busy since he does have other classes, but he takes long to grade. It was only until AFTER the midterm that we started grading labs: the whole we had to guess our grades. I def noticed it in a past class I had him in but that is a red flag
Initially, everything seemed fine to prevent you from dropping and getting a W but later on, it became extremely challenging to handle. Constantly lowering grades with ridiculous excuses. Any attempt to communicate with him about grades the professor will respond by reversing his previous evaluations and further lowering your grades. Beyond worse.
I really wanted to enjoy Mr. Masuda as at first he seemed to be passionate about astronomy. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!! I had already read his reviews and decided to take it as a last resort and it was a big mistake! Also, exam problems are nothing like our homework problems. (He's a hard grader)
The professor's lectures were disappointing. He claimed that science's purpose is to challenge theories rather than prove them, even highlighting the presence of errors in data collection during lab work. However, his contradiction became apparent when he heavily emphasized precision and accuracy in quiz grading. A bunch of nonsense.
This professor was the worst, I took him for Astro 10, and worst experience. He speeds through the lectures, he does not let us copy his notes.
He knows his materials when teaching, and lectures are very easy to understand. When it comes to homework and exams, that's when you need to start studying and teaching yourself the materials. He goes by lectures really quickly, so get ready to put in a lot of work in this class. I would NOT recommend taking this course over the summer.
A palpable sense of tension lingered in the classroom, leading me to believe that he harbored some underlying frustration. He looked like he hated his job. I was afraid that even a well-intentioned question from me might inadvertently hit the wrong nerve.
90% of the modules are outdated, and the amount of homework he assigns averages more than 100 problems per assignment. He is the most hypocritical professor as he grades on attendance and timeliness, but is late almost every class. He also does not accept late work and yet takes months to grade any assignments.
DO NOT take him during the summer. I took him during the summer and learned the hard way. Half of the class is gone by week 2. During a normal semester, it's okay—it's hard, but it's pretty hard.
He was a basic teacher, I think he really enjoyed people asking questions in class. He's passionate, but gets derailed so we were behind on curriculum and had to do a lot of self study. If you are good at self study and ready to sit through lectures, take his class, he's not bad. Super interesting guy, try to ask questions in class.
Oh boy where do I even start. I had this dude for 2 semesters and let me just say that this class was not it. He assigns you labs every week, the midterms and finals are horrendous, he doesn't explain stuff well, it's hard to understand what you're trying to do. Last time I tried contacting him, he left me on read and never responded back. smh
I knew i wouldnt like this class as soon as i saw that all assignments are due monday. I use tasks for canvas, This makes it so i dont see when his assignemts are due for the week. And talk about lack of privacy! Using an app that records me and asks for my ID? Just started the class and we already have a mid term? WE JUST STARTED? WHERES THE MID??
He doesn't want to explain things. He expects his students to learn independently without support or any explanation. He gets mad when you ask him questions. He does not like to communicate and gets irritated easily.
He is a tough grader. If you look away from him for a second in class, he docks you participation points. You can show up on time every day but you will still get marked down.
Great professor, he has a passion for astronomy and makes learning about it fun. Just be prepared to take the time to understand concepts and study and it's a great class.
Very strict professor 👎 do not take this class.
Over my 3 years at Evergreen Valley College, Michael Masuda is by far the worst professor I've had. He only reads from pearson slides, and does not do practice problems. He assigns awful pearson homework that will take you hours. The only positive from his class is that it is hard to fail, he curves graciously.
Unless you have to take his summer 7A class, DON'T. He assigns homework every night, and while each assignment is only 20-30 problems, most problems have parts A through P, so you're doing closer to hundreds of problems after class. On top of that, there's a lab each day. A lab report is due before midnight on the day of the lab. He is the worst
Spent a week asking for a review for midterm, professor claimes he would post one and never did. I dropped. A midterm a month into the semester is also crazy work. This class is not suitable as an asynchronous, honestly. It should be taught only in-person.
It's been two months in his class and he has not graded a single assignment. Very difficult and if you have a single tech issue expect to fall very behind.
attendance mandatory, your grade will drop if you miss a class. Grades three months late.
If you want to deepen your understanding of basic physics in general, I would advise you to think twice about this professor. He's a nice and chill person, but he doesn't teach in an efficient and effective manner. Pointless HW on Pearson, reads off of Pearson slides during lectures, and was WAY behind on lecture compared to lab (3 chapters).
