Has good teaching style easy to understand. Very helpful and nice guy.
Excellent professor, excellent class.
Excellent teacher. You work for your grade, but he helps and answers question very clearly. I'm looking forward to taking more classes from him!!
I think Dr. Miller is an excellent instructer. I would recomend him to anyone taking chemistry...for a price...lol
Cool teacher , hard class though....you will work for a good grade!
Excellent instructor.
and 142 & 143. He's very organized in class, very helpful outside of class. likes to laugh and have fun in class, too.
he's awesome, will answer any questions, and if you will ask in a certian way he might even direct you in a right direction during the test......he's cool and funny
One of the best teachers I have ever experienced. Makes chemistry seem easy and clear. I highly reccomend this man.
Awesome instructor. He really knows his stuff but keeps what you don't need to know out of class so as not to confuse you. Always helpful, grades very fairly. A total quirky & fun guy!

took him for chem 141. i'm sure he knows his stuff but he just doesn't know how to teach it. couldn't stand his lectures!! learned**** from him, did better reading from the book!!!
Sorry, but I have to disagree with the positive feedback. Although he's quite nice and tries to grade fairly, his lectures are terrible. It was very hard not to just fall asleep. And when I did ask questions, his answers weren't very clear. Yes, he is very nice but I wouldn't take another class with him. Sorry.
I really enjoyed Dr. Miller. He is very passionate about chemistry and it is obvious he enjoys teaching it. He takes the time to create his own practice problems and provides the answers! I think he sets his students up for success! No surprises on the test, if you do the work you will get an excellent grade.
Very helpful. Wants students to do well!
Dr.Miller presents chemistry is a clear, straight forward manner. He is a generous grader, and is even funny at times. If you do not enjoy chemistry...his lectures will be boring that's for sure. If you love chemistry, you will find him brilliant.
Dr. Miller is a good teacher. His lectures may be a bit dry, but it's general chem, not too interesting anyway imo. He works very hard to make sure you understand the material that is on the test. He goes thru many, many problems to help you really "get it". He posts sample tests for every exam that are VERY similar to the real thing. He grade
He is the best teacher in the world! He is very nice, is always willing to help his students and is very fair at grading. I loved his class and I learned a lot from it. Would recommend to anyone!!!
I was so nervous to take chem because ive never taken a chem class. He is a great teacher. I got a 3.9 by studying his lecture notes and his study guides.
Great Teacher, very nice, very approachable. He is always willing to help his students. He allowed me to take my final early so I can go to work. His lecture is organized and give you nice PDF of his lecture notes on his website. If you study his lecture notes, you will do really well in his class. He has a great sense of humor too!
He really knows chemistry, but cannot teach it at all. He does no anwser question clearly. He is the human bobble head. Do not take him.
The human bobblehead is right! He is really dry in his lectures and is not clear. Also, does not answere questions clearly and focuses on wierd exceptions to the rule rather than the main concept. A computer could teach as well as this teacher! Avoid if possible!!
The most common thing I heard when talking to other students about class was "What is going on?" Nobody seemed to be really know what we should be studying. There was only 4 tests so if you had trouble on one it really hurt your grade. He is completely unapproachable and seems to hate answering questions. Not as described in the glowing reviews.
He is a great professor. Best one I have ever had. Hints directly what will be on tests. Tests are not very hard and he grades very quickly (one day). Cannot say enough good things about him.
He is a fun proffesor but really unfair. He marked me down 25% on the final for showing up 3 min late. He jokes around sometimes but really dry teacher.
He is a wonderful teacher. He offers plenty of practice problems to give us a working knowledge of what is going to be ont he exams. His humor is a bit brittish/dry/si fi esque, but he makes me laugh a LOT. He is by far my favorite professor and I would reccomend him to anyone taking any Chem class at SCC.
Dr. Miller is not good a texplaining things at well. Even though he knows chemistry very well, he can not teach it very well. When asked questions he just looks at you like your dumb and doesnt answer very clearly. Lots of confusion in the class. Do not reccommend him at all!!
Dr. Miller is a very good teacher. He is always helpful with questions, approachable and super nice. His labs are cool and his study guides and practice problems will help you do well on exams if you want to. I think he is one of the best professors at SCC.
He is awesome. Very understanding and good at explaining things. Plus he has a good sense of humor
To start off with he can't make a clear concise point on anything other than he will clear things up in their qtr. then to make that worse when you ask him for help he looks at you like your dumb or below him. His labs are fun but he doesn't help at all other than the aforementioned look. Horrible teacher great chemist. Don't take him!!!
If you don't already understand this subject you will fail. Need 99 math lvl. He is horrible at keeping things simple so go seek help else where. He's a nice guy, but he really doesn't care to explain things simple like. Good luck if you got him, he goes out into space alot!! Also horrible pen-menship!
very confusing!!! goes off in space alot and humor is non existant!
Dr. Miller is a good teacher overall. His lectures are very dry, but attendance is not mandatory for them. He knows all his students' names, and was always helpful whenever I had questions. The grading scale is pretty hard, so watch out. Hopkins is better for the 121-123 series, but he did a good job in 161 I think.
not good with explanation. One of the worst instructors i have ever had
Amazing teacher! I highly recommend Dr. Miller for anybody who has never taken Chemistry before. He is very easy going and has a good sense of humor. He is always willing to help anybody who is confused. I bought the textbook & the solutions manual for the textbook and did not need/use either of them....waste of money. Highly recommend him though!!
Really good teacher. Once you get used to his lectures, the class isn't bad at all. He is super helpful in lab and if you have questions out of class. The tests are fairly tough, but he will rarely throw you any curveballs. He is a very pleasant person as well. Most of the class doesn't get his dry humor, but he's pretty funny if you pay attention.
90% of the grade is showing up EVERY DAY. So much is covered each day. If you have trouble understanding, he will spend hours with u after class breaking things down in a way that makes sense. He gives you a packet of pp outlines and fill in the blanks for notes. Best science teacher I've ever had and I'm 2 quarters away from bachelors in chemistry
His sense of humor is hard to understand, but I love him! Labs are super fun, you can watch videos instead of coming to lecture, & I am glad I will have him for 2 more qtrs. I think his teaching is pretty clear, although it might help if you have taken chem before or if you can teach yourself. Test questions are usually similar to lecture examples.
Worst professor I've had since I began attending SCC. I'm a 4.0 student who loves science and he legitimately has me LOST.
Awesome teacher! Study guide he gives are the same as his test questions. Do you the study problems and you should do great on the tests! Explains labs very well and he's very easy to talk to.
162 is harder than 161 test wise. You can't get away with just knowing how to do the math anymore, you need to know concepts. The study guides are more helpful this quarter. Miller is still awesome! And he is really accommodating when you are going to be gone or if you have to miss a lab. He is one of my absolute favorite profs at SCC!
Very good instructor. He's helpful and gives you plenty of information to prepare for his tests.
Dr. Miller is an awesome teacher! If anyone complains about his teaching, try taking chemistry at the university of Idaho! Mike does a WAY better job! If you go over the study guide, you will do great on the test! Having math experience helps. I've never taken chemistry and got a 4.0 in his class. Mike is a nice guy and cares for his students.
One of my absolute favorite profs! I will miss him so much! He loves to mess with students, which you have to get used to but is awesome! He is laid back unless you are disruptive. The tests were back to being mathy, like 161, not 162. He makes lecture videos which you can watch if you are in the hybrid or you can watch to reinforce the lecture.
Biochemistry is not an easy concept at first, but Dr. Millers experience teaching in this field really comes in to play. He does a wonderful job establishing the layers necessary to understand the material. I adore his dry sense of humor. He is thorough and empathetic the a students hectic life.
Mike is a really nice person but a so-so chemistry teacher. His online lectures are generally all over the place and he does not explain the concepts behind what hes teaching very well. The book was not required for the class but I wouldn't have passed without it--I learned more from teaching myself than from his lectures. Wouldn't take again.
Dr. Miller is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I was never really good at science or math, but he is so clear in his explanations that I excelled in his classes. If you ever need to miss a lecture, they are all posted online, and the keys to labs are online as well. Really nice guy, I even took an extra chemistry class with him for fun.
Dr Miller is awesome! He is super sweet, and a great teacher! He grades leenetly and is open to question! I had the hybrid section so my lectures were online, but they were organized and easy to follow! You will learn to always study lecture problem for the exams! He is super cool, and had a sense of humor! I would defidently recommend! :)
I really enjoyed my Chem 161 class with Dr. Miller. It was a hybrid class and his online lectures were clear and easy to follow. Dr. Miller gives you all the tools you need to ace his class, it is up to you to do the work. His practice tests are very helpful and the only reason I opened the book was to do the practice questions.
Excellent professor. Very in touch with his class and his students. Very caring and is very interested in his students success.
Dr Miller is the best prof I have ever had. He is super clear about what is on exams and gives plenty of example problems and study guides that are very similar to the exams. The class is weighted very heavily on exam scores, but they are fair exams. If you do the study guide and keep up on lectures you'll pass.
Great lectures. Funny. Super caring! I'm not even his student anymore and he still helped me the other week through email though I have transferred to EWU. His exams are fair--he doesn't test any more difficult than he teaches, the questions closely resemble lecture and lab. He wants you to do well. I just wish all chem professors were like him!
Flat out won't help with your lab. We had a bad cation solution (after 15 minutes no reaction when there should have been one) and told him, only to be told we did something wrong. I have over 100% in his class and he wouldn't even look the lab over. After three failed attempts at a reaction my partner and I ended up just saying it happened.
Dr. Miller was a wonderful professor. His lectures were so clear that I didn't use the book once and passed the class with a 3.6. Tests were clear with questions that were directly discussed. He also offered plenty of practice worksheets. I took his hybrid class and loved it!
Great Prof, online lectures were very easy to follow, but a bit time consuming. Labs were pretty laid back. The exams are really easy if you do the lecture problems and the practice exam, almost word for word. Overall great class, learned a lot. Highly recommend!
Awesome teacher. He gives plenty of study guides for exams and practice exams which are identical to the actual tests. He provides a KEY for all the labs assignments and shows his work of how to reach the correct answer. Straight forward and really wants his students to do well.
Great teacher. Cares about the success of his students. Goes above and beyond for his classes.
Dr. Miller is one of the best professors that I have ever had. His amazing lectures will help you pass all exams and final. Do the study guides and example exams and an A would be in your hand. Good luck!
The majority of class is exam points, I'm talking like 600/700. you willbe expected to learnthe material on your own, although he provides a goodexample exam. A very niceperson, but ifyou are bad with tests, this isnot your tea. if youneed help, its hard toget it from him, and attendance is needed. its comunity colege qualityu pay for what u get
Dr. Miller was one of the best professors I have ever had. He genuinely cares about his students success and always has a smile on his face. He has practice exams and the actual exams are EXACTLY like the practice exams. I highly recommend taking this professor, he is sincerely the BEST!!!
His examples are the best! Do the pre labs and review lectures if you dont understand. He gives example quizzes so you know exactly what to study. Chemistry is hard for me, but hes really making it easier! Im rearranging my schedule just to take his class again!!
Dr. Miller is a great teacher! He is very organized and methodical, which is great for science majors. Lab is highly mandatory and do not be late! He provides KEYS for labs and practice exams. His exams closely resemble the practice ones. He is a very kind person.
Uncaring
Dr. Miller was the most amazing professor. It was a hybrid course so his lectures were online and they were so easy to follow. He is great at explaining everything. I was incredibly nervous to take Chem for the first time but I passed with flying colors because of him.
Dr. Miller was an awesome professor. I tried to take an online Gen CHEM from UNE, but had to drop due to the Pandemic and my work schedule. This course was a night and day difference. Very logical, building step upon step. The course is tough because its Gen CHEM, but put in the work and it is very doable.
very simple class. i've never been good at chemistry so my grade wasn't amazing, but you can't go wrong taking this class.
Most class points are based on exams. Provided example exams that are very similar to the exams! Make sure to take time and do example exams!!! Lectures are very straightforward. Gives extra credit. Provides feedback on exams. Love his sense of humor. Labs were fun!! Definitely would take his class again.
Great teacher but having the lectures online were just so boring I couldn't pay attention. Other than that labs are fun make sure to do the practice tests.
Very clear expectations. Tutor was definetaly needed to learn some of the conversions. He has practice exams which are 90% similar to the actual exams. I spent about 20 hours a week on this class and visited the tutor often and got a 3.8. Put in the work and study and practice the practice exams repeatedly.
I quickly grew to love Dr. Miller and this class! I believe he made biochem as digestible as possible. He gives you all the correct answers to the homework + labs so you don't lose points on them. The practice problems and practice exam set you up to ace the real exams. I only got one exam question wrong all quarter. Dr. Miller is the best!!
Dr. Miller is one of my favorite professors I've had. You can tell how genuinely passionate he is about the subject matter and his lectures are interesting and not too long. He gives very helpful study guides and practice tests and it's very clear that he wants his students to succeed. If you put in the work, you'll get a good grade.
Professor Miller was awesome!! He provides an information packet for all exams that have basically everything you would have to have memorized if you didn't have it. His lab write ups all have answer keys posted in lab. He is super friendly and will go out of his way to make sure you have a good time and understand the material. 5 stars!!!
He is not very flexible when it comes to assignments. Labs are obviously not available for retaking, but his exams are tough and all grades are final. I constantly rewatched lectures, went to tutoring, and asked him questions, but I still failed his class. He does not allow open notes on the exams, which most intro to chemistry teachers are.
The best professor at SCC, by far. His lectures are amazing and his labs are fun and relevant to the lecture material. His exams are very clear with no surprise questions. Overall, I really do think he is the best professor at SCC. Definitely would take his class again.
Miller was a great professor and made the class seem easy. He was easily reached and did his best to help you understand the material. His exams were very easy to prepare for, he gave you all the materials you needed. Overall I definitely would take him again.
Truthfully, if you aren't doing well in his class, it's totally on you. Not only is he very accessible if you need help, he only tests you on what is in the lectures and it's the required material for the course objectives. He provides the answers to everything and gives multiple study guide options for the exams. I learned so much in this class!
While I was dreading taking chemistry, Mike made it fun. Who doesn't love making loud popping sounds and setting things on fire? Mike made the labs enjoyable and stress-free, giving out the lab answers and information packets that were pretty much cheat sheets. Fun and fairly easy class, especially if you're good at memorization and algebra.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Chemistry is a difficult subject, but Dr Miller is incredibly organized and paces the class very well.
Expectations clear, gave partial cred on exams. Labs were fun & simple, easy to get full credit on. 2 quizzes + 2 lecture quizzes a week with one retake and the same questions, so that you can work through it and get everything right. OK at answering questions, not the best w/ email. Lectures were hard to get thru, kind of meh, but not bad at all.
Dr. Miller is an enjoyable person to talk to, his class isn't terribly difficult, but man are his online lectures boring. I ended up using YouTube to learn a lot of the topics. But overall, his class is enjoyable, he has a great sense of humor, and is very approachable.
He is one of the best instructors I have ever seen. I used to hate chemistry but with his amazing lectures I found the most difficult parts of chemistry piece of a cake. I wish he was giving all other chemistry courses. He is extremely respectful and amazingly organized and on time. I highly recommend him.
Professor Miller is great and his class punches in the same tier as Ivy League Gen Chem 1 course for quarters. His lectures, while boring on occasion, are complete and comprehensive. Has generous policies for missing things, though he won't accept late work. Grades hard on tests, tests aren't easy. Overall good professor.
Absolutely one of my favorite professors. He provides credit on exams based on the effort put in. Try your best. Even if you aren't 100% sure, he likes seeing the thought process of students. His lectures are heavy, but his exams ONLY cover the material in lectures. There are no "surprises." No late work or extra credit. Will help when asked (-:
Dr. Miller is an awesome teacher! He gives you clear instructions, explains grading criteria, and all class policies right out of the gate. If you take notes ( I suggest printing off the lecture pages from canvas to write on), pay attention to lectures, and DO your homework you will sail through exams. He cares, just reach out to him if you need.
Great teacher, super friendly and awesome person overall. Highly recommend taking this class. Not too difficult
Dr Miller is by far the best science teacher I have ever had! His online lectures are easy to follow. Open note quizzes online. The labs were a lot of fun and helpful. I felt like he gave clear instructions and lots of opportunities to practice what you're learning. Overall, I was very prepared for the tests and walked away with a lot of knowledge.
