Some people think he's really cute, some think he's okay. However, one thing is clear--he's a great instructor! The things he does with his physics toys are so silly & funny, but it really makes you think & understand the concepts!
Very helpful, enthusiastic, knowledgeable instructor. Assignments, exams and grading were more than fair. Relied on analogies, audiovisuals, internet applets, inclass demos to make abstract material more 'concrete'. Highly recommended.
Great instructor! Very clear and approachable. He's always there to help. Its amazing how much time he devotes in helping his students. A lot of people I know think he's cute (haha I think so too) His funny stunts in class will make you laugh and learn.
Great instructor! He makes lectures interesting and fun. Highly recommended to anyone required to take physics.
He is very entertaing and tries to make physics as fun as possible. You get to have notes for exams! A great overall teacher.
BEST Physics teacher ever. He does a lot of entertaing demos so it's not your typical boring lecture class. He does a really good job at explaing concepts. His notes a succinct. He always makes time to help students. Generous grader.Late at returning work
THE BEST PHYSICS PROFESSOR!!! Determined to help you understand the topics in class. Easy to talk with and makes class time interesting. Grades fairly and with extra credits.
He is an excellent instructor who will stop at nothing to help you learn physics. It is clear that he has passion for what he does.
FUN FUN FUN! I never thought I could have so much fun in a physics class--to make a not so interesting subject actually interesting takes a lot of talent. He has what most teachers don't have---awesome teaching skills=)
Funny guy, *really* likes physics
THE BEST PROFESSOR I'VE HAD AT THE SCHOOL. He makes learning physics easy and fun. He's hilarious in class. I actually looked forward to going to his lectures everyday. He also has a super good curve, so the class is pretty easy. Plus, you get cheat sheets for the exams.
He gets really excited about the subjects he teaches and it makes you want to learn
THE BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD!!! He is always available for help. He always holds help sessions. His lectures are fun to go to and he always makes me laugh. Very funny guy. We need more professors like him, ones who get REALLY excited about the subjects they teach.
Awesome guy, has a great sense of humor, teaches using real-life examples. Fun class

He's awesomely smart and very witty. Engaging as a teacher, and all around cool cat. Loves physics and astronomy. Uses a mac.
Very helpful..Has homework study sessions where he goes over hmwork about to be due and he holds regular office hours for other help whether it be for lab or class. Has good demos during the lecture and explains things thoroughly!
hes is sooo funny, interesting, and flexible with work and lab. he is very clear and helpful and emails all the time keeping everybody updated. AWESOME TEACHER!!!

makes the class more fun than it should be. If you have to take physics, take it from Nassir...no question!
i enjoyed this class a lot. the online notes are especially helpful come time to study for the exams.
He is probably the best physics teacher around! He takes what would be really hard, boring material, and makes it more interesting and easy to learn. He is a great lecturer and is sooo funny! He keeps class interesting with his personality and demos. Very awesome teacher!
Best college teacher I have ever had. He is awesome, fun, super smart, and makes the class interesting and relevant.
Nassir is an awesome teacher. He makes the material easy to understand; online notes, two help sessions every week. Lectures are interesting, very emphatic with his in class discussions. Too bad I'm not doing too well. I guess I didn't put enough time into it. Just pay attention and study. I hate my life.
awesome teacher, very helpful, study sessions are useful, hillarious, great lectures, my favorite class but its HARD. practice the math problems
This teacher may be interesting in person but his Internet run course is terrible. Please don't waste your time or money on it.
The concepts are hard but the guy is really fun!
Made physics REALLY interesting. although the test were REALLY hard, he made sude his students understood them. has study seasons which helps too!
He is one of the most fun science teachers I ever had. He makes physics interesting. Yet, his final exam was a bit hard.
Great and fun teacher! Always interesting to learn physics from him.
Not a prof, but in many ways, it's good he isn't. Caring instructor, knowledgeable and makes physics easy to understand and learn. Love the demos he does in class; full of energy, wit, and lame humor at times. Highly recommended instructor.
ONE OF THE BEST INSTRUCTORS AT UH! He is there to help the students. He is full of energy and he cares about the subject he is teaching. Great demos. Difficult class, but with an instructor like this one, you'll appreciate his teaching style.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! He's enthusiastic and does a great job at teaching astronomy. His energy and personality will keep you awake, entertained, and interested. He's also pretty laid back. Not a whole lot of lecturing, more field work. Although, possibly more homework than what one would want in a one credit lab, but still relatively easy.
EXCELLENT TEACHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is one of the best. His knowledge is superior and he loves physics. Very unbiased, and can easily relate to student. Study sessions help a lot. Best teacher period. Flamboyant, and all. Take him!!!! HE IS GREAT!! NO LIE!!! DO IT!!!
He's an awesome teacher. The labs were so much fun and he's really helpful. The class was really interesting and Mike was clearly passionate about astronomy. The class is really easy and you'll definately get at least a B as long as you do the homework and show up.
Excellent teacher! Fun(ny) demonstrations, very clear explanations, very generous grading, and the material is not too difficult. I actually look forward to going to lecture (and I used to hate physics)!
Nassir was interesting and was very helpful to students whenever we had questions. I really dreaded taking physics, but he actually made it pretty interesting. The tests were comprehensive, however pretty easy due to the generous curve. Great teacher overall! As long as you care about your learning/grade, you should do very well!
GREAT HUMAN! BETTER TEACHER! Going to class is an absolute joy! He makes lecture and hw fun, but its still a challenge. (The take home tests are brutal!) You learn a lot from his class. He's hilarious, and always has time for his students. He puts a LOT of love into grading the hw, even with individual comments. I think he's kinda cute, too.
Great guy. Funny, easy going, and really cares about his students. Always moves the homeworks back a few days. Has two help sessions for EVERY HOMEWORK. Amazing teacher.
Definitely the best teacher in UH Manoa. Grade everything cautious and did them by himself. (we got more then hundred students). awesome !!
I don't know what planet these other "raters" are living on, but Nassir is hardly the best teacher at UH Manoa. He doesn't have the experience necessary to teach upper level classes and should stick to 151/152. His tests are extremely hard and you never finish in time. However, he is very passionate about Physics(blah).
Nassir is very well spoken, and very good at what he does - physics AND teaching. It's awesome, really, how smart this man is. His quizzes are concept heavy - deriving expressions in terms of variables - and his exams are a bit difficult, but you can finish them if you study well - like any other class. An A is NOT hard to get. He's amazing.
If you have the option take it from Dodson. Nassir changes his syllabus in the middle of the semester and screws everyone. He started the first half of the semester with homework(which we were told to rely on for studying for exams)and later on he decided it was too much for him to grade. He also will change the syllabus point-wise so watch out!
Nassir is by far one of the smartest and most caring profs here. He works himself into the ground to grade work from two full classes, AND has tutorial hours for both. I guess the people who complain about him are just not willing to do the work, but this is definitely the physics to take if you need to really understand concepts. One of the best!
New physics teachers are like rookie cops, they feel the need to make a name for themselves so that their colleagues will take them seriously. Nassir is a good teacher, however he is not good at testing on material covered in class. Be prepared for overly difficult exams intended to decrease your scholastic confidence. Overall the class is passable
Nassir is neither new, nor a rookie. His tests are hard, but that's better than getting through such an important class just because it's easy. Wish he was teaching the 272 course.
My response after the first day of lab: "Can't believe we'll be doing this every week!" Lots of fun field work while still learning a lot. Work and quizzes are never hard (goes over everything before taking the quiz or turning in homework); just show up to class. Takes at most an hour to do weekly homework assignments. Provides cookies too!
Does not grade fairly and simply does not spend enough time teaching.
Nassir has a GREAT sense of humor and I looked forward to every class. Thats hard to say about a Physics Prof. Class requires 50% independent study, he goes over the general idea of a topic but for anything "tough" use the book. Grades real hard so be consistent in your work. Would take again
Really fun teaching style and genuinely passionate about the subject. One of the few classes I look forward to attending. He covers HW and exam material in class so attending would be beneficial. Didn't REALLY need to use the book or online supplements. If you wanna see how learning the material can suck, check out the TA's for the PHYS labs.
he is a very smart professor. his solutions to homeworks are very thorough. he tries his best to keep the class entertained so people don't get too bored. HOWEVER, if you like to take your time on the exams, you definitely won't. you will either rush or not complete it in time(unless you're a genius in physics)
Really funny professor and keeps you engaged but if you've never seen physics before his class is extremely difficult. enjoyed going to class but he breezes through the material so it was really difficult for me. weekly help sessions highly recommended. exams are hard and doesn't give enough time to finish. study hard if you take it from him!
This guy is GOOd.I recommended him to all of my friends.Best teacher I have this semester.Only class i WILLINGLY attend - and it's noteven mandatory! The subject is hard and he moves super fast, but I'mseriously, grateful for him. This class would be so much worse with a monotone 90yr old prof...So take him if you get the chance. You won't regret it
Great lecturer and keeps you entertained with different experiments. His tests are on the tough side and you can easily find yourself running out of time if you spend too much time on a problem. The final is a little easier than the three midterms since its all multiple choice. Don't slack off on being thorough in hwk bec the grader can be picky.
He is definetely one of the best TEACHers; making class interesting & inspires you to like physics. But his tests are hard, especially with the time constraint; your cheat sheet will not help you if you don't know the material!
Although he talks very fast, Professor Nassir is a good teacher. He covers the material that needs to be covered and is definitely there for his students! He is the perfect example of an awesome and energetic person who loves what they do and that's why they're good at it!
One of the best teachers at UH! Very energetic and genuinely interested in the subject. Lectures are important and the handouts keep you on your toes. DON'T BUY THE ONLINE SUPPLEMENT. He'll forget about it in a few weeks. Exams are a lot for a short period of time so work fast!
This astronomy lab was great! He is extremely funny and keeps students interested. I learned more from this lab than I think I did for the lecture. He is very helpful if you're having trouble and so far that homework isn't that bad either. I don't know what other classes he teaches but I recommend him as a teacher.
I totally agree with the others that he is the BEST teacher at UH Manoa. He is energetic, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the topic and teaching. His lecture notes are extremely helpful. He makes old exams from previous years available and has solutions for the exams and homework assignments. So yeah, take his class!
Prof Nassir is seriously the best professor I've had at UH. You don't really need the textbook because everything you need to know is in his lectures, homework and tutorial sheets. He is very enthusiastic about physics and it shows in this teaching style. Everyday is something different.
Mike is the best professor at UH. If you don't like science take this course he makes everything very interesting!!! I look forward to his class and his e-mails. (he sends the funniest e-mails) Very energetic keeps you interested. YAY Mike Nassir
Amazing prof! Very animated and obviously loves the subject. Does demos in class. Tends to talk fast, but very thorough about presenting equations and illustrating how they work. Does "review" sessions twice a week to explain homeworks (worksheets given almost weekly) Very, very organized. Fun class!
He's an awesome prof that knows how to make the subjects he's teaching interesting. He's knowledgeable and very helpful when you ask for help. Review sessions are totally worth it since he goes over how to hw. His exams are a bit difficult but as long as you practice and pay attention, you'll do fine.
The best teacher I've ever had at UH. Very animated and holds audience interest amazingly well. You don't need to buy the book and he never uses the online supplement. The tutorial sheets he hands out in class are the only study guide you need, questions on homework and test are VERY similar to these. Just go to class and you'll get an A.
One of the best teachers ive had at UH. Very entertaining, knowledgeable and loves teaching. Help sessions help you with HW big time. Attendance isnt mandatory but he has random iclicker questions. Used the online supplement twice in the beg, book isnt necessary. 3 midterms (one is take home) & final. Allows 1 sheet of notes on tests and he curves
He is definitely entertaining and explains the material very clearly. You don't need the book ONLY if you go to every single class. Help sessions guarantee you 100% on the homework. 1 pg notes of first two exams and 2 on the final. Only:its the end of the semester and we don't have our exams back.
The only negative thing I have to say about him is that we took our final without knowing any of our grades for our tests. However, with that being said, he is still one of the best teachers I've ever had. His tests are fair and are straight from his notes and the worksheets he passes out. Gives the answers to HW assignments at help sessions
One of the best teachers at UH so far! Only bad thing is we haven't received ANY of our old exams back. He takes really long to return HW and exams. Don't really know what grade we're getting or the class average!
Awesome teacher. The man is a genius.
AMAZING professor! Passionate about the subject, hilarious beyond belief, and extremely helpful and friendly! Highly recommended.
He is an amazing professor, he knows his stuff! He has two review sessions, so take advantage of it! If you attend class everyday, you don't necessarily need the book because he explains the concepts well enough. He's not too prompt with returning assignments. But just do the homework and you'll be fine. Did I mention a cheat sheet for exams? :D
Nassir is awesome! So enthusiastic and fun, really knows the subject well and gets you excited and enthusiastic. Great class!!
Super awesome! Wish all the science instructors were like Nassir! Same as everyone says, super nerdy by fun too! Super helpful. Shows a bunch of demos and lectures through overhead projector!! Help sessions are expanded and he sets up the homework problems and shows more demos. Past exams posted for practice
Strongly recommend attending lecture. Really enthusiastic about the subj, I recommend filming his lecture and reviewing it. Even though good professor, physics is a tough subj. Take notes, do the homework, look at past exams. Homework really saves you! Generous curve. Exams are kind of hard.
Wow! He is the best teacher ever. He loves physics and loves to teach it.
Prof. Nassir is a very enthusiastic professor in Physics, thus making each lecture interesting and exciting. However, he does lecture fast, so be prepared for that. Also, he goes very off-schedule, making it difficult to study for exams. It's all worth it in the end, though since he has a generous curve. Taking him for 152 . . .can't wait!
He is a really good teacher. He knows what he's teacher but we don't exactly get our homework before our tests to see what we got wrong and if we're doing the problems correctly which is kind of difficult. We also don't get our tests back right away so it's hard to gage what your grade is. Overall, I like him as a teacher...not as a grader.
Ahh Nassir. He's the best teacher I've had at UH. He's very passionate about physics and does a wonderful job teaching it. He's so funny. His class is graded on a huge curve. Only complaint is that our test grades are given to us wayyy too late. But since he's so cool I didn't even care. Phys 152L is hell though.
Very, very enthusiastic. He loves what he does and it's hard not to get caught up in it. I'd recommend taking two copies of the homework, one to turn in and one to study by as you're not going to them back in time to study. very generous curve. highly recommended
Professor Nassir is a very enthusiastic teacher and is great on explaining the concepts that?s he teaching the class. I would highly recommend him. The only problem is he?s never been adamant about returning the assignments/exams we turned in. So you?re not sure how you?re progressing in class, and you can?t use it as an aid to prepare for tests.
Mahalo Prof. Nassir for another great semester. His teaching style is so in-depth that even his lectures have WAY more information than the book. GO TO CLASS! The only caveat is that he NEVER gives back homework or exams, so you have to guess your own grade. He has a generous grading curve, so as long as you listen, you'll do fine. =)
He is passionate about physics, and i like his style. but because he doesn't give back midterms or homework on time, you're going thru the semester blind. go to class, or at the very least, go to his homework sessions. he does grade on a generous curve. the lab, however, is a different story. still got an A, but struggled with write-ups.
He was a really crappy teacher to be honest. He didn't give midterms and homework back so it was hard to tell what you were getting and when you asked, he didn't have it "graded" so it was incredibly frustrating. He would also talk really weird and so it was hard to understand him at times. Good luck to anyone taking this class.
He was a great professor with a very enthusiastic attitude. You can tell he loves physics just by listening to his lectures. The class had over 200 students and he has to do everything on his own(grading etc.) It is not hard as long as it makes sense to you.
Nassir is the best professor I have ever had. I would take any class he taught. Bc he personally grades all free response questions, work isn't returned in a timely manner. An A was 75% and above in my class both semesters. Don't buy the book, I never read it and got an A both semesters. Go to every lecture and help session.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. Possibly THE best teacher I have ever had. A light in the darkness of the crappy education system. Take this class if at all possible!
One of the WORST teachers at UH. Here is why he is awful; 1) Doesn't return HW OR TEST 2) You will NEVER know what your grade is in the class (let alone if there is a curve) 3) goes through topics very fast 4) gives hw that he does NOT explain how to do them 5) gives alot of hw Could have been a fun class but, I now hate physics.. thanks.
He's such a great guy! He tries to keep lecture interesting by doing little experiments in class & using a lot of visuals. If you go to his help sessions, he basically does the homework for you. Only downfall of the course is he doesn't grade assignment or exams in a timely matter.
If you hate physics but need to take it, like me, make sure you take it with Nassir. He makes physics doable and his curve is nice. Go to his help sessions!
Lots of students like him because he acts silly. Won't turn back homework or test grades ever, won't respond to emails. Homework has things not gone over in class, which is so frustrating if you've never taken physics. He is a fine lecturer but I just can't respect him for not doing his job and grading things, so I can't really like him.
Nassir is the best! He goes pretty fast but you can totally tell he's passionate about physics. He gets all excited and uses many different tools to help you understand. He hold extra practice sessions where he'll go over examhomework problems for you. As long as you put in some effort he goes above and beyond to make sure everybody learns.
Prof. Nassir is a great teacher and explains concepts very well by using in-class demonstrations. I would not have understood physics if he did not utilize large props. Exams are straightforward, only thing is that he does not return them in a timely manner. He is very passionate about physics and his mannerisms always make me laugh. Take his class
Nassir is fun and hilarious in lecture, his exams are straightforward, and if you go to his help sessions, he basically tells you the answers to the homework. The only thing is that he does not return exam scores back until weeks/more than a month later. Despite grading, he is one of the best science teachers I've had at the university.
Prof. Nassir is one of my favorite professors so far! He's very nice and super funny. I really enjoyed going to his class because he taught well, in terms of keeping students engaged and explaining concepts clearly. His curve is SUPER generous. Make sure to complete your homework because it saves your grade if you don't do well on your exams.
Does not have enough time to go over entire lesson plan. Class is rushed and homework contains problems that we did not go over. My homework went missing and I received a zero for the assignment. Do not take this class with Nassir. You will regret it.
His lectures were always so rushed, he came into class just when it started and always took at least 10 min to set up his stuff. The homework was hard because we never got to go over similar problems in class and the learning assistants were not very useful at all. Get ready to learn off of youtube videos.
Really enjoyed his lectures. He has a really fun personality and makes physics interesting. However, he always seemed rushed for time and disorganized. He always says he's going to assign online HW but never does. Very generous curve.
I am kind of amazed that anyone rates him poorly, he gives you a sheet of notes front and back for all midterms and two for the final. Combined with the curve, he is essentially handing you an A on a silver platter, its up to you to take it or not.
Always pushes back homework due datests you turn it in late. Lets you have a page of notes for all exams. No online homework or textbook needed. I took him for both physics I liked him so much. Seems to be easier than all other gen phys teachers
Professor Nassir's is a great guy but he isn't a great teacher. His homework assignments were hard because he didn't do similar problems during lecture. He doesn't return midterms and homework assignments until a month or two later so you don't know what your current grade is. But, he has a large curve and he allows notes for the exams.
good class lots of curves on test, study and do practice probvlems and you will do fine otherwise you will prob fail with a d or c
Nassir is entertaining and made going to lectures easy. However, the sheer amount of material blown through each class was ridiculous, no one topic is explained in depth and he moves on extremely quickly. Tests were wildly difficult in my opinion and there was never enough time to complete them. The curve helps a lot.
One of my most favorite professors. Dr. Nassir is so passionate about what he teaches and his lectures are amazing. He explains the material well and makes class engaging. His tutorial sheets prepare you well for the exam but there are a lot of questions in a short time so make sure to practice. The only downside is he doesn't post lecture slides.
The switch to an online class seemed very hectic to me (but I can't blame him). I can't say how a normal course with him would be, but from what I've experienced, he is a very knowledgable teacher and lectures are great if you put in the effort to pay attention the entire time. However, during the online period, he didn't post any video lectures :(
Lecture wise, his lectures are okay. BUT, the first three weeks of the fall semester he posted no lectures AT ALL. He then posted lectures at a slow pace and decides at last minutes to cancel an exam. He is just too messy and unorganized that it is hard to keep up. Im glad students in the past had a good experience with him but I am not.
Instructor Nassir is messy and disorganized when it comes to learning. He posts lectures and resources late but makes the homework due within an unreasonable time frame. He is so behind from his original syllabus because for the first couple of weeks he didnt post anything. To this date, 2 months into the semester. He only posted 9 lectures :/
Horrible at communicating at students and logistics of the course during COVID and online learning subpar. Disappointed in the course, instructor, and department.
Easy class, almost impossible to not get an A
I was excited at first when I heard how well Professor Nassir taught the class, although that did not translate well into online learning. It became more frustrating as the semester went on, because his lectures would be uploaded very late. It's very frustrating too when he stated he will get it together in a previous email, although no improvement
Very dissapointed in the course and his teaching style. He can not expect students to cram chapters worth of material days before an exam because he does not how to manage his own time and follow his own syllabus. I am distraught at the throught that of the 42 scheduled lectures, we are only up to 18. UH Manoa and the physics department, DO BETTER!
He questions my will to live. He should be questioning his position as an undergrad instructor. 0/10 would not reccomend even to my enemy.
Long story short, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He uploads lecture material maybe 2 days before an exam, every time. Lecture and tutorial videos go over problems, but you dont do any of that on the test. You pretty much learn how to do the work and then get tested on it in a way he didnt teach it to you. Its like he wants people to fail his tests.
Did a terrible job as an instructor on an online setting. Behind on his own syllabus, released lectures late, and my my biggest pet peeve is doesnt take responsibility of his own actions. Every exam he released, it was released late because of tech issues just say you dont know what youre doing and leave. Physics department, please evaluate him
Easiest professor at UH Manoa. If you can't get an A, you might want to re-evaluate your career choices.
It was a bit difficult switching to online last minute and a little late on uploading lectures. Tests were open-book and reflected lectures/practice problems. You do need a bit of self-motivation for this class. He responded to emails in a timely manner. Offered EC (LA sessions) and graded on a great curve.
The online class is set up poorly. He doesn't keep up with posting the lectures, so it's impossible to actually learn anything.
It's obvious that he cares about his students, but his online class is organized poorly. Uploads lectures at most a week before the test, is hard to get a hold of, and the synchronous classes are boring & hard to pay attention to. If you understand physics easily, take this class; if not, find a new professor. Most learning is on your own.
This professor did not get his stuff together online. He stopped posting lectures mid-way through the sem. Has discussion worksheets to work with LAs which I was thankful for since they did not have this last sem. When Laulima jacked my midterm, he was nice enough to allow retakes. Gives surveys and tries to accommodate students, like review sheets
Dr. Nassir is a wonderful professor teaching a difficult subject. The only issue was he stopped posting lectures, but he compensated by providing formula sheets in preparation for the exams. His grading system and course modality is quite nice. He assigns recitations that truly do help us. Dr. Nassir is an exemplary professor at UH Manoa.
Started off semester strong, then kinda stopped recording lectures. Cancelled a midterm, he drops one of the 4 (in our case, 3) at the end. masteringPhys is what it is, google is your friend. 5 attempts at the weekly quizzes, TAs go over some problems during weekly discussion meetings which is also attendance. Do the HW, read, and youll be fine.
Definitely would be better if it were fully in person. He completely stopped uploading lectures for a month and the class is basically self-taught. Nice man, but as a hybrid professor not good. The first half of semester videos were uploaded all at once, so what has he been doing for that first half since he already recorded half of the semester???
Stopped putting out lectures halfway through the semester and now uploads only a summary of the lesson with basic equations that arent explained. Still expects you to do worksheets once a week that are pretty hard since nothing on it has been taught. Take another teacher if you can. Would not recommend this class.
He stopped uploading lectures halfway through the semester and only posts a list of formulas for the chapters. He stopped assigning homework but still expects us to do discussion problems. We had to take a midterm that was on a combination of material for 2 midterms because he canceled one. He's a nice guy but a bad teacher.
Don't recommend this class at all. He started off solid but then stopped posting lectures for at least half a month. HW sucks and exams are hard. Super inconsistent class and hard to keep up with. Expecting students to learn a subject as difficult as physics completely out of the textbook is unreasonable.
This semester feels like it was all on the TAs. They gave the most help while the professor is literally nowhere to be seen?! He doesn't have the decency to even genuinely apologize or acknowledge why he hasn't uploaded his lectures. Like buddy it's online. Try to make an effort if I'm paying to take this class. This is self teaching physics class.
Honestly forgot he was the teacher since the TI's and TA's did most of the work. He stopped posting lecture videos and was extremely far behind with schedule. The physics recitations were more helpful than him in my opinion.
Stopped doing his job after the second exam. TAs are the only ones actually teaching. Said that lectures would return- It's been two weeks nothing changed and it's the last week of classes. Very disappointed and shocked that UH has let this go on for two years. If you take this class just be ready to teach yourself because the prof won't. -10/10
I don't understand how he is still a professor. From past reviews, people say he hasn't been uploading the rest of the lectures since last year. What has he been doing since then? We don't get any apology or explanation for the lack of lectures, material, and homework for our exams. It seems that he does this every year.
Stopped uploading lectures halfway through with no explanation. At the time, he said he'd get it out to us by that weekend, but that never happened. Basically combined 2 midterms into one (one of those midterm's concepts had no lectures). Very very inconsistent with putting out work. TA's are far more helpful than him.
Stopped uploading lectures halfway thru the semester, never an apology, combined two exams in one, felt like I was throwing away money by staying in this class. He is little to no help, choose other professor for PHYS 151. The lectures he did upload were boring, took way too long to get to the point, could've been more detailed.
If I could give this man a 0 I would. Has not uploaded lectures for two months, very unprofessional, the TAs were okay they did more work than the actual professor. Overall, this man is a waste of college tuition because he literally does not teach at all. people wanted to nominate him as the best professor they spoke too soon. Complete joke.
Echoing the other comments, this prof COMPLETELY stopped teaching half way through the semester with zero explanation or apology, and yet did not adjust his expectations. This resulted in me pretty much teaching myself ALL of the material with the much appreciated help of the student TA's. I am very disappointed with this prof and honestly shook.
Professor Nassir is horrible. He is hard to access, he doesn't interact with students, and halfway through the semester, he just disappeared. Literally, he just stopped making lectures and stopped responding to emails the last few months of the semester. The TAs did more teaching than he did.
He only uploaded the material for the half of the semester. And we had a midterm which combined two exam into one. Even that, he never apologized to us and explained. His video lecture and in-person discussion set (having a piece of lecture) was very useless too. I hope he did his duties for this class.
Just adding another horrible rating of this professor. He stopped uploading lecture material halfway thru the semester with no explanation to this day! We were still expected to be tested on the lectures we weren't given, and complete problem sets each week. This entire course was teaching myself and I feel extremely unprepared for Physics 152.
Stop watching the lecture vids and start reading the book, because he will only upload half of the content for the whole semester. HWs are usually due MWF, and there are 5 open exams to take in total. Lecture vids should only be treated as a supplement since he barely uploads NEW lecture vids and on time. So read the book, don't depend on the vids.
Dr Nassir is a very nice man and great teacher in person. PHYS151 asynch w/YouTube lectures is terrible, but he teaches my recitation and is so helpful! I don't watch the lectures anymore, get everything I need from his recitations. He cares a lot and is very engaging in person!! Online part: 0/5. In person: 5/5 definitely recommend this guy!!
I enjoyed attending his lectures. He made the subject easy to digest. Very friendly and easy to approach when you have questions or concerns.
This class was just a science requirement for my major, but Prof. Nassir made the material easy to understand! Class is super lecture heavy though and has lots of online homework. The homework isn't too hard in itself and is great to prepare you for midterms, but it was tedious.
Amazing lecturer, but very disorganized wrt uploading assignments and pset solutions on time. In concordance with the prior reviews, he does get very busy about halfway into the semester and this spills over into course organization. His class is very engaging and he does a phenomenal job at lecturing, so that does make up for it.
His lecture is not required to attend and I only attended for the first month, but I got an A. There are a total of 5 midterm tests and the lowest score is excluded from the scoreboard. I studied with the materials posted only the day before Midterm. It was A up to 85 points, so it would be very easy to get an A if you don't miss online homework.
Go to his office hours!!!! This was the reason I received the grade that I did. Before the tests, work with him through the practice problems. Let's you have cheat sheets for all tests, very helpful. Homework heavy but doable. Do the homework or you won't pass. Attendance not mandatory, but def helps to go
He assigns way too much homework. it is not for students benefits. There were assignments due Wednesdays and Fridays, that means unless you were working extremely ahead, you had one day pretty much to complete assignments due friday. 2 assignments of over 40 problems each sometimes. All it does is promote searching answer to finish on time.
I never went to lecture and pretty much just used the lecture slides he posted online. I also mainly used the practice exams which really helped and used the "tutorial" problems. He curved the grade by the end of the semester which was great. He was hilarious on the rare occasion when I did attend class. Exams were tough, but straight forward
Phys 151 Fall of 2024. It was my first-ever physics class, it was superb, he's a brilliant and funny man. I suggest attending each lecture (it isn't mandatory but) I did, and it helped me SO MUCH. Lectures=fantastic; he encourages participation and goes over a lot of examples in lectures, which helps with the HW and exams. Wish he taught 152.
Great person, poor teacher. His lectures have almost no correlation with the homework which he assigns. The homework is worth 30% of your total grade so it takes a beating. You need to invest a lot of outside time to understand and complete the homework he assigns. There is also an absolutely absurd amount.
Great lectures and helpful office hours. Homework is time-consuming but crucial for preparing for exams. Using Unstuckstudy and practice tests really boosted my understanding of the material. Overall, a challenging but rewarding course with an engaging professor.
Prof. Nassir's lectures are engaging, but he hardly ever gets to mathematical examples in lecture which is really the main part of the course. HW is worth a lot so if you can do well on that it helps your grade a lot and there is a nice curve so passing the class isn't too hard. It's a LOT of material, but that's standard for an intro course.
Be prepared for moody outburst when students don't participate or show up. Professor often made sarcastic remarks and erratic comments towards students during class. There are 4 midterms (~30 questions), 1 cumulative final (~70-100 questions). Lowest midterm dropped.Homework is much harder than the actual content taught in class and on tests.
151 has a FREE discord and apparently a student didn't want to join, complained that the practice tests sent by the TAs were unfair. Instead of defending the system, prof decided to change the weight of EVERY midterm and final with a few weeks left of the semester, making it harder to pass his course. His final ended up being 87Q, 34%.
He explains concepts well and goes over examples in lecture. Certainly not a bad teacher by any means but in order to do well on tests a lot of additional prep outside of what's done in lecture is necessary. Do the tutorials he hands out, do practice exams, and do the homework. Speaking of homework, there's a LOT. Don't procrastinate, it piles up
He's a decent professor, okay at explaining concepts, but he would rush through lectures and make rude comments during class. The HW doesn't correlate to what's on the tests at all. Go to TA office hours. A LOT OF CONTENT and many exams. HW was due twice a week, takes about 2 hours to do.
Professor Nassir was a really great professor. He created some experiments during class and watched some videos. Go to the lectures and make use of the office hours to do well in his class.
Prof. Nassir is quite charismatic and his lectures are quite enjoyable to sit through. However, after taking the midterm, I can say that the homework does NOT prepare you for the midterm. It also takes hours to complete. DO NOT rely on his past midterms to study for exams. And ask for help from LAs. Great person bad professor
Tests were nothing like the practice tests or practice problems. Very tough unless you 1000% understand every concept. HW due 2x a week requires a lot of work. Prof randomly changed weighting of final to be 36% of grade 2 weeks before the final.....
Work isn't graded until the absolute last minute. Other than that no complaints.
Great lectures, can be slightly rushed but he's very interactive with the class. The issue are the tests. Homework and study guides don't prepare you. They're not reflective of the practice problems you do and with how much content is put into one test, it feels nearly impossible to have all equations and problem types studied beforehand.
He is willing to help the C become B so much respect to the man for doing that. Curve helped a lot. I salute to you.
Sometimes in lectures it seems like he's drunk or something but I enjoy it. HW was hard but other than that, professor is great
He's very nice, loves what he does- but sometimes he words exams so differently from what's on worksheets/practice exams sometimes. U get cheat sheets tho. Love the prof, hate the subject.
hes good. hes great. i give him 5 rate.
If you paid attention and did the work, you had nothing to worry about. Clearly passionate about the material and somehow made certain aspects of physics interesting.
Honestly, this class will depend per person when it comes to the difficulty. But, compared to prev. professors I've taken, he's genuinely one of the better ones. hard homework, but not weighted heavily on overall grade. He provides midterm practices that are very helpful, and cheat sheets are allowed. 4 midterms, lowest dropped & non cumulative.
The homework sucks and is difficult, yes. But it's only 5% of the grade now. The tests and worksheets are a lot more relevant and there are many resources. Attending review sessions helped greatly with test prep and understanding material. His lectures are also interesting too. Highly recommend, wish he'd also teach 152.
chill guy but tests are awful shoutout cheat sheets fr
Professor Nassir is really funny in class, and honestly distracts himself during his own lectures. His grading curve is amazing as someone who really struggles with texts and physics. I will say I really don't find his homework helpful for the tests, if anything it confuses me more, BUT his worksheets he hands out has really helped me.
This professor is perfect for those absolutely hate physics. The course is well structured. Lectures are highly organized and often entertaining. The grading is extremely generous; one dropped midterm, 1-2 cheat sheets allowed, 55% to pass the class. I highly recommend this guy.
Professor was great physics professor. His worksheets and practice tests helped a lot studying and understanding content. Not to mention cheat sheet. Also really random but really funny in lectures.
