makes every class a very memorable experience, lots of fun!!!
Amazing, funny, nice, and makes history non boring, he is hands down the best teacher at TCC
I had him for an online course. Very clear on what he expects. Very helpful and informative. One word of warning: He grades like an English Proffessor! Be extremely careful of typoes and grammer!! If you do that and actually pay attention to the material, you are gold in his class.
He is a great, helpful, encouraging professor. But a tough grader. Pay attention to his instructions on line and you'll do fine. Ditto on the English professor thing... know how to write, turn your stuff in on time and follow directions and you'll do fine.
He is HALARIOUS! I love this guy and never missed one of his classes. He loves to argue and loves a good discussion. Be prepaired to speak up (or have an eraser in the face) His tests are a PAIN in the butt and really hard and YES he is a stickler for grammer and sentance structure. Youll find its alot easier to find a studt group fpr his class.
He is amazing, his classes fill up very quickly, and I took him randomly but soon learned why, he is very funny and entertaining and immensly interesting, he also knows what he is talking about and I still remember alot of the stuff we learned which leads
Make class more enjoyable with humor

This is a great teacher. He has clear expectations but is very tough on essays. You will learn in his class but prepare to write your hand off!
Great Professor. As previously said, he is a stickler for correct spelling, grammar, etc., but I'm glad because we're in college... we should know how to write by now! Very kind and helpful. Clear on what he expects, as well as what the assignments are. Lots of reading & many essays, but also easy, open-book, online tests. Highly recommended!
not recommend for foreign students, or whoever speak english as second lauguage. Coz you might find his lecture makes least sense for you. and he usually require compelet note taking on the class, hard for foreign students to follow.better not take his class during summer.
Just show up, take notes, and watch as he makes fun of all of those that challenege his authority. Big smartass too but it helps keep his class interesting. Tests are kinda hard though so good note taking is essential. Highly recommended.
He knows his stuff!
Horrible...very hard and alot of homework
He's great.
Took him for online history this past spring - He did not return your grades on time - He has to much on is plate or is just flat out lazy. If you are about to graduate take another teacher or he will have you biting your nails. Very unprofessional when it comes to grading - he needs to quit teaching online!
He could not keep up with the classwork and I dont think many of my assignments ever got graded. Although I made an A in the class, it wasnt any thanks to him, he was absolutely invisible except when he did grade a few papers he marked off for every single error no matter how insignifigant. If you dont know perfect grammar it will be a problem.
All he does is refer you to another website for studying and exams. I took 3 exams that did not register as being taken on this other website. I caught it in time to retake 2 of those but the deadline had already passed on one and I had to take a zero. Also, he only graded the first few assignments, I never saw any grades after that. Not too cool
As far as I can tell he's probably one of the nicest, knowledgeable, & informative professors at TCC. I made a B and that's just because I chose not to study as hard as I should have. His class is highly entertaining and I recommend you take his class. If you're even considering, do it! :)
I took him online and didn't really enjoy it. He assigned ALOT of work and would never grade it. The tests were all open book but still managed to be hard because he worded stuff weird. I did manage a 100.3 in the class though because you get 50 extra credit points for finishing everything early.
Very difficult instructor. He gives a lot of writing assignments, which is not a big deal. However, he gives a vague topic and then counts off if you don't cover everything he thinks you should have covered. I am a freelance writer, and have made very high scores on any essay I have ever had to write...until his class.
I love this class! I think that he is sooo hot! I could listen to him talk forever, and he does! Just don't sit in the "spray" zone.... I have had him for two semesters and would take him again.
Very interesting lectures, covers content competently, and willing to .help students! Not to mention, he's absolutely gorgeous (he looks like Mark Whalberg) and completely hilarious. Just show up for class and meet deadlines!
Warning! I am an "old" student with a 4.0 GPA in Fall 08 semester Dr Nichols for History 1301 Internet Course. The work load is outrageous, and he is a VERY hard grader on his MULTIPLE essay papers, and his "open" books tests are SO difficult. If you can, try and choose another professor!
He is very clear on assignments. Gives all of them up front for you to complete for online classes. Grades fairly. Always responds to emails within 24 hours. I actually found an interest in Hist after this class. I would take him again.
NOt worth the time. Too many assignments for hi sstudents or him to keep up with. It is the end of the semester, grades due and he is still grading from 2 whole sections back! Pick another professor
You have 7 Disscussion Board postings, 16 "exams" that you can print off before you take them and those are 25 questions each, 3 or 4 essay's and 3 or 4 short essays.... yes it is a lot of work but he gives you all of the assignments up front and gives you bonus points if you turn it in early. I recommend him for an online course!
Was very clear on expectations. Made a exactly what I earned. Gives all assignments up front and allows you to work and complete them for extra credit. Learned a great deal in this class. He was slow to grade, but you know what is expected. Answer all questions and you will be fine. He always answered emails within 24 hours.
Dr. Nichols is an excellent teacher. I had him for two semesters. As long as you come to class and take good notes you will do fine. He lets you know all the assignments on the first day of class. He makes history interesting. I learned a lot in his class. He is also willing to help you out. Ignore the bad ratings, he is the best teacher at TCC.
Took his class online. Was very helpful and graded fairly. There are a lot of assignments, but they are not that hard. You can print out the quizzes before hand. You will work in this class but it's easy.
great class?just want to fill you in on the darker side of it... if you are taking more than one class a semester than this class is not for you. the workload is outrageous, assignment you will find that the number of websites/online material you have to keep up with
The dude is a great speaker. I felt this is a guy I could hang out with. He's cool and he's sadistic. His in class tests aren't so difficult if you pay attention. His online work is diabolical. the quizes are difficult, and random. I like him as a person, but I dont think i need a professor this hard. I got enough going on in 3 other classes.
He is passionate about what he teaches and makes it very interesting. This is my favorite class! Don't let him scare you at the beginning of the semester, he comes off as a real hard ass but he is actually really cool. Just make sure you show up for class because he gives 15 pop quizes throughout the semester.
He's a good teacher. He's very animated with his stories. He paints a picture with his words. He doesn't baby you, and I don't think he's hard. Noone should fail this class. If you have the ability to hear, read, and think then your good. It wasn't rocket science & he's funny. I recommend him!:)Not for people who expect an A to be handed to them.
He taught me how to learn again. One of the best teachers I have ever had.
Really intresting, and very funny. Lots of pop quizes and small exams but the work isn't too hard. Good teacher.
great!
He was an excellent professor. Contrary to what former comments have said, he posts grades within a couple days of turning in the assignment. There is a quiz once a week, but they are predictable and quite easy. Chapter exams are difficult, as are the lecture exams. He is very animated and knowledgable. Take his class!
Dr. Nichols is a very good teacher. He knows what he is teaching very well. Do not miss a class or you will be pretty behind. Be ready to take lots of notes - he tests on lectures. You will take 16 online Chapter exams, 4 web assignments and 10 quizes. Be respectful in his class - he will call you out if you are not. Learned a lot from him...
I had never really been interested in history but I LOVED this class! It's not that easy but you'll get a good grade as long as you show up & do the work. I slacked a lot and still passes with a B. He is a great professor & really knows his stuff! I took him for 1301 & 1302 & enjoyed both classes. Not to mention he's HOT! :] Definitely recommended!
Dr. Nichols is a great professor & makes learning fun!! He tells you up front that you will earn your grade, very true! Studying & attendence are a must as exams are completely note based, 15 quizes are given, and 16 chapter exams due online that you can print out before you submit answers. Very much looking forward to 1302 with him.
Just finished Summer 1 in his online class. Very straight forward assignments, posts, essays. If you at least put some effort into doing well, you'll get an A. I'm going to try to take him for 1301 as well.
If I was ever going to have an affair with a professor, it would be him. Interesting lectures, dark, cynical humor and a complete smartass. Loved him!
Awesome professor, second time I've taken him and he's still great. His lectures are more like story time. The test require you to study but he's totally willing to help with anything. The online chapter test suck but aren't that hard to do. There are also 16 short miniquizes that are 5questions each and he does those randomly.

It can be easy for history to be boring with the wrong teacher, but he made it so much fun. This guy is hilarious! He made everything a story, which made it easier to study. He is up front about assignments but you will have to take lots of detailed notes for the exams, which are pretty hard. The chapter quizzes are easy but very time consuming.
if you just graduate from HS and expect an easy A you're on the wrong class!. He expects his students to be committed about his class. Show on time, NO ABSENCES(he gives extra points for that), take COLLEGE notes, pop quizzes, online exams about the textbook (time consumers but very easy to do), and four major test that are REALLY easy if you have
Usually history bores me to death, but he made everything a story that actually made me laugh. He seems really passionate about history and he knows what he's talking about. i loved this class and i hope i can take him again for HIST 1302. :)
His class is kind of challenging at first but once you adapt it really easy If you have any problemas adapting to what you have to do he welcomes you to come by his office during his off hours and he'll help you find out what you need to do You take lots of notes every day but he uses lots of really interesting stories that helps you remember facts
I got on here to look at the recent comments for this teacher... everything u read from others is true. I want to comment on the work load though. YES, it is a lot but I work full-time and I'm a full-time and guess what?? I survived. With an A. And apparently he's a hottie? I had his course online... kind of wish I went to his class though. :)
Truly amazing teacher just go to class!! attendance is pretty much mandatory but he makes the class interesting and funn and he is a very very handsome man, which makes it even more worth it to show up for class. you will enjoy his class. i did and passed with an A.
In Dr Nichols clas you have to work for your grade but he is very willing and happy to help anyone when you ask. He will help you learn to take notes. With his help, I pulled my grade from a C to an A. I had 4 other classes and got an A in his class. Make sure to attend every class and take good notes. I will take other classes he offeres.
Dr. Nichols is a talented professor, adept at clearly delivering the information for the class in a manner that involves the students. Expect to do a bit of book work outside of class, perhaps 3 to 4 hours per exam section, or 12 to 16 hours for the entire semester. The emphasis is on note taking and Dr. Nichols' teaching style compliments that.
Dr Nichols is clear about what is expected. He grades very fair. Hes willing to help you where he can to improve your grade. His teaching style is wonderful & you will learn so much in his class. He keeps his personal life personal and is professional which helps make him a great, sucessful professor. Attendance and notetaking are key for success.
Prof Nichols is great! If you show up to class, take notes...and study them, you will do well in this class. You have chapter exams in each section but they are not difficult if you take the time to do them. I took him for 1301 and 1302. I would reccomend him to anyone!
Great proffesor!! Makes the class very interesting and fun. Have put forth effort on the tests and quizzes but he is willing to help. Just all around good teacher.
Clearly a fabulious instructor. You have to be willing to come to class and pay attention and take good notes and study them constantly to make an A. He makes you review the notes because they are what he bases the quizes over and it prepairs you for your test. You are just studing the same material and as long as you are willing to put in the time
He is a great professor. He tells you how it is and how to make the grade you want. Always attend class, take good notes and dont be affraid to approach him with questions and you will pass his class.
One of the few professors that can teach effectively at a college level. You naturally learn how to take high-level notes throughout the semester (that or you wind up dropping out of/failing the class...) His tests/quizzes can be difficult, but he grades very fairly. He has great lectures. You WILL improve your study skills by the time you finish.
I'm currently taking his class online and it is horrible!!! He lets you print the quizzes before you take it, but guess what? It doesn't help bc he makes it so hard that even with an open book its almost imposible to get an A. ?s are worth a lot of points each. Not to mention the all the essays. I wouldn't recommend to take his class online.
I took Dr. Nichols for both 1301 and 1302. He's a great professor and you will learn how to study and take lec notes more efficiently. He's not an easy A but you can make an A in there.
Great and amazing teacher! I took him for both 1301 and 1302. His lectures have been by far the most interesting of any of the other teachers I've taken on campus. Love him.
Took him for both 1301 and 1302. He is the best professor I've had yet. He's funny and keeps class interesting but you learn a lot as well. Not a lot of work is required for his class but you MUST go to class because tests are on his lectures. Very helpful if you have any questions. I wish he taught every class I have to take. AWESOME
Absolutely wonderful professor. He's hilarious and witty. Knows what he's talking about and teaches it very well. You have to attend and take good notes if you want a good grade, but he makes it very easy for you. His lectures aren't in the least bit boring. (I actually look forward to them!) Definitely recommend taking his class!
I struggled in the first few weeks of this course until I began going to weekly meetings with Dr. Nichols where he taught me how to be successful in his class. He's ALWAYS willing to help. Gradually, my test scores tripled. He's exceptionally smart and knows his stuff & his lectures are very interesting. Hands down the best professor I've had.
He is the BEST teacher I have ever had! He has put many much needed smiles on my face in his class! You HAVE to be in class and take notes. He is very helpful and is willing to show you ways to succeed in his class if you visit him during his office hours. I wish all my teachers were like him! Hes the best!
Excellent professor! You'd be stupid not to take him!
How to get an Easy A. 1) Show up to class every day, his class is not like most, it is fun to go. 2)Record his lectures, take notes 3)Think of every bullet point he puts on his PowerPoint as a vocab word, Make a list and study it. chapter exames(think TAKS)Where to find the answer is in the question. Loved his class you're stupid not to take him!
Took him for both classes, and got an A in both. He keeps class interesting and funny, and yet, some how in the midst of all of his jokes and him standing on a soap box every once in a while, I was still able to learn every thing I needed and more. Plus, doesn?t hurt that he is soo cute.
Best teacher ever! He was challenging, respectable, hilarious, and made history fun (even though I have hated history my whole life)! I made sure I signed up for his second class HIST 1302 this next semester!! :)
Absolutely wonderful professor. Expects students to learn at college level, as he actually teaches at the college level. I have had the worst experiences with history until I took his 1302 course. Looking forward to his lecture was refreshing and he kept his class interesting. He also doesn't put up with bs so be respectful and don't dish it out.
Wonderful teacher. I had trouble with the first test, but after he helped me understand how to study, I aced the next tests. His course will teach you to take notes from lecture and learn as a college student. He also is very pleasant and funny.
Took him for 1301 and 1302. He is awesome. just show up and listen you will do fine, He is very funny and makes you want to go to class!
Great instructor. Very helpful and understanding! Curriculum wasn't hard because he kept it very organized and gave you plenty of time to finish everything.
GREAT TEACHER! So freakin hillarious and very intelligent. I'm kind of a history buff and this guy knows what he is talking about. Need book for Ch. Exams. Take good notes for tests and study for quizzes. I found him extremely attractive, I love a man with a good beard haha :)
Awesome teacher, take if you wanna learn history. Very interesting lectures
He's simply the most greatest professor of all time. Need I say more??
Hands down my favorite professor!! Excellent course. He really knows the material and teaches in a way that is enjoyable for anybody. Abosolutely no complaints about him..he's an OUTSTANDING professor. I'd take his courses again just for fun!:-)
Great professor! He is organized, and grades a posted quickly. Readily available if you need him. He is upbeat and funny, making the time fly. I found myself disappointed at times because class was over for the day. He is a fountain of knowledge!
by far the best teacher i have ever had!!! wonderful, wish i could take the class again!
Definitely loved this class! Took this class bright and early at 8am last semester. The clarity of the material was great, and I enjoyed the lecture every time. Professor is very organized, and straight forward. I wish I had taken the second part with him. Great professor! : )
Best. Teacher. Ever. He's hilarious, helpful and his lectures are very interesting. No one ever left early or slept. You'll need your book for chapter exams. Take this teacher! He is fantastic. I would take his class again!
BEST PROFFESOR EVER. The lectures are always interesting. I worked my schedule around just to be able to attend one of his classes!
The subjects and the lectures were interesting enough. However, the communication could of been much clearer for what he expects of us. You find out after the grade is given what questions he was looking for you to answer.
Took his 1301 and 1302 class, hes a great teacher. lectures the whole time but he is very interesting to listen to. made me really listen and understand history. you WILL need his book for online quizzes. and make sure you study for pop quizzes, easy if you look at your notes. very good teacher would recommend him to anyone!
For each lesson (6 lessons) you write an essay, take a few quizzes and participate on the discussion board. He is a pretty tough grader on the essays. For an online class it is very clear to know what is expected. I would take him again.
great instructor, tests are 1/2 multiple choice and 1/2 essay. only problem I had was having to do the off campus research due to medical. had to drop the class, but otherwise a great instructor.
Dr Nichols is great, I absolutely loved him!!! He's very nice and extremely helpful!! You do need the textbook but only for chapter exams that are done online. You must attend class because his tests and pop quizes are strictly over lecture but he does make things very interesting!
I had taken Dr. Nichols 1301 class and just had to take his 1302 class! He is absolutely awesome and funny. If you take his class you will love it!
TCC northwest: This is my number one teacher. He should recieve a reward. One of the few classes I made an A in although most people say he is hard- He is not because he is extremely clear and to the point. I would recommend recording him though in class.
Took Dr. Nichols online and the class wasn't too bad! The lessons were open for 2 weeks and included a Discussion Board, Essay, 3 Test (Open Book) and Critical Reading. If you read the lessons you will do fine. Once you get the hang of how he grades I am sure you can pull an "A".
Best Professor Yet. Not an easy A, so pay attention which won't be a problem because his lectures are so interesting.
Great class, never goes boring. Make sure your note-taking skills are pretty good though.
His online class was hard. Every lesson he requires and essay and discussion board and he asks 10 part questions that are way to detailed. I would recomend taking another teacher if you can.
Mr. Nichols requires a lot but he is by far the best. It wasn't too difficult to manage & the most difficult part are the essays which he works with you on them. He is an awesome instructor and I would recommend him anyday. Do not mistake it requires a lot but it isn't too difficult.
Wonderful professor. Funny and easy to follow. Is very clear on what he expects on test. Make sure you attend class regularly. Taking notes is mandatory for the test and pop quizzes. Is willing to help any students that are concerned for their grade and is very encouraging. Take him if you can. I took him for both 1301 and 1302.
I'm taking him for my second term of history. Great teacher!!!
Seriously one of the best teachers I've ever had at TCC. 14 quizzes which he drops 4, online openbook chapter quizzes, and 4 Unit tests. Must take notes but he makes the class so interesting. I took him for both sections and loved both of them. Definitely take him!!
The guy took a subject that could have been boring and made it an experience that students didnt want to skip.
He posts the entire semester so you can work ahead if you like. No midterm or final and you have 6 assigments they all consist of discussion board, essay, and chapter exams (usually 2 or 3) you have like 2 weeks for each assignment. Easy class if you can write 6 essays.
He is very clear about his instructions. I would recommend this class to those who give a lot of time to their study. 4 lecture exams including the final which is not comprehensive, 4 sets of chapter exams(online and open book) and 14 pop quiz. He is a great professor, very helpful and there is bonus for attendance too.
BY FAR the best professor. He makes lecture so much fun. He is very humorous and fun. He definitely has clear expectations but does not make your life hard. Offers bonus on every test and perfect attendance bonus. I also took him for HIST 1301 and received and A.
What a great teacher. Makes History INTERESTING! If you study before quizzes and tests and do the work he requires, there's no way you can't make an A. He is no-nonsense but still helpful.
Dr. Nichols is the best of the best. If you are looking to take Hist 1301 or 1302, I definitely recommend!
He is a very funny and interesting teacher to listen to. You must be attend class and take notes to succeed. He always posts grades very quickly and is willing to help you if you need it. Study his daily posted key words and you should pass his class. There are a lot opportunities for bonus points.
I am not a big history fan which is why I chose to take it online. He tells you what he expects and wants it no different. You have 3 chapter exams, 1 essay, and 1 discussion board every lesson. The chapter exams, and discussion board are very easy. The essay he wants LOTS of detal. The textbook I rarley use. Do assignments & its an easy pass!!
Dr.Nichols is the best teacher everrrr! He is super helpful, interesting, funny, and easy on the eyes! Loved his class! You have to show up and take good notes. Don't use your phone in his class, he will kick you out. I might be in love.
Dr. Nichols is an awesome smart teacher, he really knows everything he is talking about. I like the fact that he has a wide prospective of the world, his class is challenging but will help you in the future. trust me you want to take his classes! (he looks like thor)
Mr. Nichols class is very demanding but you learn so much in it. You know what to expect from the beginning and he expects all that from you. Exams are not timed and can be printed and resubmitted at a later date.
LOTS of work. If you work full time, expect to spend another 10+ hours a week on his assignments. Every lesson has chapter exams (3) (open book), discussion board postings, and essays--for every Lesson. He is clear in his expectations, do all the work to pass and on time! I found it overwhelming, but not difficult.
GREAT professor!! Would highly recommend!!! takes a little bit of time to grade, but he writes great reviews to help you do even better on your next essay! Is very fast to email back! Great class!
My 3rd time taking this professor I have yet to regret it. You must know how to take good notes in order to pass this. All exams are based on his lectures and everything that comes out of his mouth his words. I personally have improved my note taking academically and professionally. Simply showing up will not do it you must PAY ATTENTION
I took him online for HIST II. Easy A if you do the work! The semester consisted of 6 units- each unit had 3 chapter exams, a discussion board, and an essay (that required a lot of information). He seems to genuinely care about your success!
Amazing teacher! He will help you understand better, and is vert helpful if you need help!
I've taken this professor 3 times now and have yet to be disappointed. He lectures the whole time, but he knows his material really well he is able to communicate it to you. You must go to class everyday (bonus points) and able to take good notes. If you didn't get certain parts of lecture feel free to visit with him in office and he'll answer Qs
I took him for 1302 because he looks like Thor, I went back for 1301 because he is a brilliant professor.
Doctor Nichols is seriously the best professor I have had so far. He lectures the ENTIRE class period and does it in a way that keeps you completely interested. He knows when he's losing the class and makes jokes to bring you back into the material. Simply put, he is an amazing professor.
Good professor! The class is hard and there are 3 essays that are a major part of your grade but his instructions are clear and he is very helpful. The book is a must have in order to pass this class. Apply yourself and you can earn a good grade in this class. I recommend him.
He is a really good teacher. He is clear about what he expects out of you and he always offers to help. Lecture exams (only off lecture), chapter exams (only book), and pop quizzes. Study lecture notes/outlines and you'll pass. Oh and he is easy on the eyes. ;)
I have never been interested in History before- but this professor is so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about what he teaches that it would be hard not to enjoy the historic stories he tells.
He is an awesome professor. I have never been interested in History before and I looked forward to go to his AMAZING lectures. You will have to earn your grade but he is very clear about what he expects. 4 lecture exams which are strictly off lecture (take good notes!), chapter exams that are only from the book, and pop quizzes. I RECOMMEND HIM!!!
This Professor was my first experience of college. If you fail his class its your own fault he hands you all the tools necessary to pass. Take good notes study them thoroughly for all quizzes and test. Lectures are amazing and his way of making it interesting always left me excited for returning to class. Don't skip class if you can help it.
-Gives pop quizzes; take good notes & you will do fine. -Super funny! -Must have book; 4 chapters exams always due before the next test -DON'T SKIP CLASS! -He teaches like no other teacher I've ever had before -Will make you fall in love with history -Totally unbiased; brings the facts, nothing else Point: best class ever; best teacher.
He is by far the best teacher in general out there. Makes you love history! he lectures the whole class which isn't as bad as it sounds.A very smart professor &is able to communicate it to the students. Will answer any questions. Your nothe taking plays a major factor. If you miss a name or place he doesn't mind repeating or going office. LOVE HIM!
Dr. Nichols is THE BEST professor I have had at TCC. The man deserves a raise and expects you to show up! I'm a history buff and even he had me wanting to research more into topics. 4 chapter exams followed by an exam is the way he operates. Take good notes and ask questions!! He is simply the best history professor I have ever encountered!!
During class there was a discussion board, test and 3 essays. 1per unit. Michael Nichols gave good feedback on the essay. Tests were straight from quizlet. other than that easy teacher take him. I would take him again. Discussion board participation is mandatory.
This class was so interesting! Dr. Nichols is very knowledgeable which makes the learning experience awesome! Test are mostly easy but there are some critical thinking questions so its hard to make an A on his exams since there are only 33 questions on every test! But is possible if you know how to study your notes!
Man! I really had to work for my B in the class! It's all lecture, and tests are the only grades! Make sure to ask what his expectations are of you and what he looks for when you write the essays in the class. Otherwise you will be lost. But other than that, it was alright I survived.
Take someone else if you can. There were 3 essays, which were graded way too harshly and the discussion board postings were tedious and were also graded harshly. Test questions are way too tricky even after reading the textbook. If you're looking for an "easy a" this is not the course for you.
I'm a straight A student and got a C because this class was unnecessarily tough. He grades the essays on very strict guidelines. A lot of work, time, and reading has to be put into this class. Take with a different professor if you can!!
Nichols gives fun lectures. I do not care much for history, but I remember a lot from his class. There are many pop quizzes, so be sure and attend class, pay attention and take notes. Oh and study the key terms provided on Blackboard. This course does not have to be hard.
Awesome guy! You need the book for outside class exams that you do online, he gives pop quizzes but they're super easy if you look over your notes before every class, and you have 4 lecture exams but those a breeze if you study. You have to take notes because he lectures all class time, and has outlines posted on BB! He's funny and cares about his students definitely taking him for 1302!!! Take DR. Nichols you won't regret it!!
Its vital that you stay awake and take good notes in his class otherwise you will not pass. Theres pop quizes almost every day, 5 questions with a bonus, and theyre super easy if you listen to his lectures. Hes really funny, one of the best history professors I've ever had. I recommend you take his class if you want a good laugh.
Very considerate with due dates allowing time for you to complete assignments. Discussion board posts every 2 weeks along with chapter exams. Would take him as a professor again!
I am taking this professor for a second semester. The lectures are full of information. I would recommend recording them so you have something to listen to. He has "pop" quizzes, but you usually know when they will be. He hints that to you. He is really good at keeping everything organized. Absolutely amazing professor.
Great class with a great teacher. I took this class expecting work and it turned out to be the only class I looked forward to this semester. His lectures are funny and extremely interesting even if you're not a history fan. He gives pop quizzes but only over the things he talked about. Good listening and a little bit of studying will help you pass.
He is very lecture heavy. If you don't go to class, you will fail. If you do, you will pass with flying colors. I recorded his lectures and re-listened to them before tests because he talks fast. It's a lot of work, but my average in there right now is a 100 and all I have left is the final. It's time consuming, but worth it. He is a great teacher.
This class is pretty easy as long as you put forth the effort, and do good on the exams and chapter exams you will be perfectly fine. i didn't do good on the quizzes at all or the first exam but all other tests i received a B and as well as doing all the bonuses i came out of the class with a 86. I highly recommend this teacher.
He was great! Always reminded you on things before they were due.
He was great! Always reminded you on things before they were due. Interesting
There are 14 pop quizzes, 4 chapter online quizzes due the day you go to take you lecture exam(and there are 4 of those) you are only allowed to take hand written notes, but he is a great professor and makes history fun & interesting!
I love history so I'm kind of bias. He is a great teacher and has a dark sense of humor. The class period is pop quiz at the beginning of class and the rest is lecture. He gives extra credit as well. 10 points just for coming to class everyday at the end of semester. Come to class and study and you will pass.
I took his class in the fall but had to drop. His lectures were all over the place and he hadn't gone over anything that was on the tests. I recognized names and events but the questions about them were not discussed. He was a great professor for others but not the best for someone that is dyslexic.
Very great teacher passionate about history! makes the lectures like a story to remember. very fast talker so you must pay attention or you wont pass. Only grades are chapter exams, quizzes and tests. You cannot skip this class and breeze by, you must take notes and pay attention and show up. Textbook is not required and teacher is there for help
I have taken him for HIST 1301, 1302 and 2312. Very clear on what he expects. He lectures as one big story and he makes it really interesting. His lectures are what I look forward to. If you put fourth the effort, his classes are easy A's. Pop quizzes, chapter exams (from the book) and lecture exams. Plenty of opportunity for extra credit.
Professor Nichols is a great teacher. He describes his lectures in detail and in ways that make you want to learn and pay attention. The test are easy as long as you take good notes. He is very caring and if you ever need anything, just visit his office.
I really didn't want to take another history class but it was required. I'm so glad I ended up with Dr Nichols though, there's a lot of material to read for the online class but he makes the material so interesting. Lots of quizzes over the summer but open book. I would absolutely take his classes in the future
Dr. Nichols was an amazing online professor! He structures his class by uploading every assignment at the beginning of the class, so you can go at your own pace. There are 3 papers which he gives clear grading criteria for. He also gives great feedback on those papers as well. He is very caring, and wants everyone do to well. Take Dr. Nichols! :)
Dr. Nichols is wonderful. I took his online, summer class. 16 open book quizzes / tests, pointed discussion boards, lots of reading and three, 750 word essays. Extra credit also offered at end of course. Dr. Nicholas provided exceptional feedback on assignments and teaches from a caring and positive standpoint. Definitely take!
Took his summer online class, only a 6-week class but very extensive work. 16 online exams, 3 essays of 750 words or less, 6 Discussion Boards. You must read the book. For a one month class, I was not expecting so much work. But professor Nichols is very organized and provides great feedback on discussion boards and essays.
Inspirational lecture, really tough grader, quiz most of class day, you can't late. Skip class means fail.
Super heavy course. And he makes harder for you by a ton of quizzes every day.
Listen and study and you'll do well
Mr. Nichols was a great professor. He makes his lectures interesting and not borning. I am not a history person at all and I really enjoyed his class. Take notes and pay attention and you will do well. I did better than I expected too.
Dr. Nichols is a great professor. He is incredibly knowledgable when it comes to the subject of history and gives lectures that are both informative and entertaining. Show up and keep up and you'll do well. As a history major and aspiring professor myself someday, he has been very inspiring. I strongly recommend him whether a history major, or not!
Prof Michael Nichols is AMAZING. He grades work immediately. He gives VERY CLEAR grading criteria. He emails back QUICKLY. He give the BEST lectures! Is very passionate about history. Gives key term lists which pop quizzes will be over. If you study key terms easy 100. Work on ch exams at own pace within 4 week segment. 5 STAR PROFESSOR!!!!!!!!!!
I took Dr. Nicholes for 1301 and was able to take him again for 1302. THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER. He makes me laugh during all his lectures and makes history worth listening to. I never even thought about learning more about history until I had him as a professor. Super knowledgable and I can't stress how good of a prof he is!!!!!
Nichols is a very great professor. He wants you to succeed. He helps a lot when needed. Every week there is either 2 or 3 things due. Normally a quiz, discussion board, and a journal entry. Very interesting class, and that says a lot because I do not love history. Do not need book, there was a electronic one with his course. No extra credit.
Dr. Nichols' class is a bit challenging as its lecture-heavy and he talks pretty fast. However, he tells it all like one big story and to me that made it easier. He also puts bonus questions on all of the quizzes and tests.
I took HIST1302 online over summer and it was the best choice I made! Professor Nichols was quick to grade with good feedback (within 4 days at most). The assignments were easy if you pay attention to the online resources he provided. you'll be fine. The textbook wasnt really needed.
I have really enjoyed working with Mr. Nichols. Although this is an online course, he gives you feedback on completed assignments and lets you know exactly what he's looking for. He also provides a free textbook! Great summer online class over all!
Dr. Nichols is a great teacher, I'm so glad I took him again for History 1302! He makes history interesting and is hilarious! He is lecture heavy, so make sure you go to class and take good notes. If you ever need help, he's more than willing to give you a hand.
Best professor I've ever had. I dont even attend tcc any more and I'm rating him from UTA. I retook his class for fun. You will use up a whole notebook on notes but he makes class fun. I might graduate and take him again.
He is an amazing professor. Took his history 1301 class worrying cause I did not like history but he made it surprisingly entertaining. No phones allowed in class & need be consistently taking notes every class. Also a random pop quiz every few sessions. Very responsive and overall nice professor. If you put in the work its a great class.
An amazing teacher!! Took him for history 1 and was the best decision I did. He is a very caring and nice guy, and is willing to help you out if you need it. Class is very heavy notes/lecture, so you miss one day and youll miss a ton. Take quizzes and tests then some chapter exams outside of class. A very funny guy that tells history as a story!!
Awesome professor!
I am really enjoy of his class and I got pass for test history. But his lecture was really heavy so much deeper of history.
I take him and he was great but his lecture is so heavy and take good note. He except you study everyday.
My suggest is you can take him again!!
He should probably slow down a bit on his lectures but anything else is great. loved his class
This class was interesting and enlightening. I am not a fan of history, but Dr. Nichols kept the class engaging and the content free of fluff. There were near weekly quizzes, a map test, and a few exams. The final was non-cumulative. There are also sets of chapter exams which are due before every test. The book is required.
I would take him again. :)
My suggest is you can take him again. If you want to.
I am really enjoy him so much and I am love history so much too. You must show up his class because he will doing faster in class. You will be miss in class of note.
I like him as well. I know that this course is not really easy at all. I know I will try my best to able to pass this class. I am History and English major too. If you not feel comfortable for heavy history course with him then don't take this class.
I took Dr. Nichols in Spring 2019 and he is super chill and a great professor. Make sure you study the key terms for the quizzes and take good notes in class. He is funny, nice, and genuinely loves what he does. He has a outsiders perspective to History which I think is amazing! 100% would take again!
Honestly, this class was extremely tough, because he is super harsh grade and strict on essay guideline. He very talk fast, and random quiz if you not active person then avoid this class. If you skip this class then, you automatically to get fail this class, because there is no way to pass this class. Also, quizzes are very harder.
I enjoyed his class and I am actually learning a lot of history as well. There are quizzes but honestly they are probably the most easiest thing as long as you study your lecture notes. When taking notes, make sure you write everything, though he does speak fast, it's not as bad as you think it is. I love this class overall even though it's history
Great teacher made history entertaining I got a C because I would show up late for quizzes. If you show up on time and do the work you can get a better grade than me.
Honestly one of the best professors you'll take here at TCC. He is a funny, energetic, and nice guy who will lend a hand when you need it. If you plan on skipping any day of the semester you might as well not take the course, you will take a TON of notes, with quizzes almost every other day at the start of class. Textbook was used for chapter exams
Prof. Nichols was great. He made the course really easy to navigate with his course organizers and was compassionate & patient during the whole COVID-19 situation. He seems to truly care about his students and wants you to do well. Just read the book and attend lectures, it was an easy 100 for me.
Class was very straight forward and all assignments were due the same day each week. Too many papers and essays in my opinion though.
Prof. Nichols, was one of the best professors I have had at TCC, period! He is very engaging and makes the material enjoyable. He is open to class discussions and makes it fun to learn. I really appreciate his non-biased approach to history, giving you the facts, while also providing his own take on events. Attendance is key, but the work is fair.
Not test heavy at all more so essay heavy, the course works for all students whether in person or online. You will take a lot of notes. Overall gives an unbiased view of U.S. history but gives good criticism after saying the facts of what happened. Also gives very good feedback that you can improve your writing.
He was literally AMAZING one of the best professors i have had! He lectures from when class starts til it ends, yes your hands are going to hurt from the writing. There is weekly quizzes, participation grade. There is a research essay, midterm & final essay. Hes very easy to work with & as long as you try you will pass!
He was a really good professor who works for the student and not against them. The powerpoints were not long and he made the lectures interesting. There was a major essay for the class but he broke it down into small sections so it was pretty much impossible to start at the last minute. There were no tests in the class other than the daily quizzes.
Great Professor! Lectures are enjoyable and fun.
Took 1301 and 1302 with Dr. Nichols and could not recommend him enough. He makes the topics interesting in lecture and keeps you engaged throughout. A good amount of assignments but he is very understanding on deadlines and gives super thorough feedback.
I hate lectures but he managed to make his class enjoyable. He only gave 3 actual assignments, one of them being a term paper that is worked on throughout the year. As long as you went to class and participated in the Quizizz, you have a 100 for the week.
Class grades are participation at end of class but could be made up online. Mostly lecture with a few papers. Makes the topics interesting.
Professor Nichols was a great teacher! I had him online and your grade mainly comes from discussion boards and your research paper. He gives great feedback and replies to emails very quickly! His class is more writing based than tests, but you'll do great if you have him.
Dr. Nichols is one of the best professors; I recommend taking his class. He does have some papers, which include a 500-word document analysis, midterm and final, then papers that connect to the term paper, which is the outline and draft paper. This professor loves his job, and he's hilarious. 10/10.
Professor Nichols lectures consist of a whole lot of bias and very little facts. He openly bashes his opposing views, not only politically, but religiously as well. Unless you're extremely liberal, don't take him.
Good professor and is very clear on his expectations. His assignments are easy and not excessive. I would definitely take his class again.
Hands down one of the best professors I've ever had. I've always been impartial to history in school but he goes so in depth with every topic that I was genuinely captivated. Extremely passionate about his subject and will answer any question you have in or outside of class. I'm taking him again this semester for 1301.
He is honestly a very nice professor, and was very understanding. His feedback when grading was wonderful and detailed, and I found him to be an overall very good teacher.
Dr. Nichols was a great professor, he had very little assignments and he always made his lectures fun, as long as you show up 1 time each week you get basically a free 100 for the discussion posts and he just has 3 major assignments and he accepts work up till the end of the semester, 10/10 recommend him as a professor.
Dr. Nichols is awesome! History personally is boring to me, but he made lectures fun and interesting to listen to. There is I believe 3 essays throughout the semester and as long as you show up to class once a week you get points.
He's a good professor. Took him for history 1/2. However, if you expect to just breeze by in this class think again. You need to work for the grade. Attendance is required as he takes attendance at the start of class. Also NOTES, there are a TON of notes to be taken so be ready to write everything on the slides, since the tests come from the slides
This class was so fun. The lectures he gives are the closest thing to watching a movie. He lectures in a very story telling kind of way and it makes it very easy to understand the lesson. Some people will call him biased but I think he just tells it as it is. He doesn't care about party affiliation and will take shots or make cases for both sides.
Dr. Nichols is the best! I took 1301 online over the summer so it was a lot of work in a short amount of time, but he was super understanding and would respond to emails almost immediately! He took the time to give feedback on every short answer/essay assignment and his grading was very generous! I could not recommend him more!
Professor Nichols is everything I had hoped for in an online professor. He is very clear in what is expected and provides fun videos and interesting articles to go along with the chapters you read. He provides an online version of the book so no purchase is required.
This guy is an amazing professor and actually enjoys teaching. Its a lecture heavy class, but hey its a history class of course it is. The thing about Dr. Nichols is that he inserts comedy into his lectures so the class doesnt doze off. There a TON of notes to be written down so get ready to move quick. Also he's very centrist, which i liked
The best professor I have ever had the chance of taking. His lectures are amazing, almost like listening to a story, and the grading criteria for his tests are apparent and consistent. There is also no homework!
Dr. Nichols was a great professor. Had 4 tests and 1 map test. Each test was 200 points and had an essay part that was worth 80 points. The map test was 50 points. He also had discussion grades for 10 points but it was really just a menti quiz. However, if you missed the quiz you would have to write a small essay for that discussion grade.
Overall this class was extremely easy, all the content you need to know is directly correlated from lectures so don't miss them. The only thing I disliked was the use of only pen and paper for lecture note taking. I find that typing is easier as well with my personal like to typing by verbatim.
There are a lot of discussion boards and papers due, and each unit has a quiz. He is very clear on what he expects and is easy to communicate with. He loves history and will help you in any way he can. I did not like this class and I hate that I had to take it but he made it bearable. He is a great instructor, highly recommended!
He is a good teacher, I dropped another class and took him and I am glad I did. He lays everything out for you and even gives you 2 chances on the quizzes. They are not proctored and all of the answers are in the text that comes with the class. His class had discussion boards, papers, and quizzes. Pretty easy A, I would take him again.
Dr. Nichols is a wonderful professor. The way he lectures about history is engaging and interesting. Before taking his class, I did not have an interest in history at all, but after completing his class, I feel like I have a new interest in history in general. He is by far the best professor at Tarrant County College.
Amazing professor. He's the best professor I have ever had. His lectures are engaging, and his class inspired me to learn more about history. I would completely recommend him to anyone, and I think he is one of the best professors at Tarrant County College.
Professor Nichols is an engaging and understanding instructor. His class has a lot of discussion boards and papers, but the workload is manageable. Unstuck study AI was a helpful study tool alongside the free textbook. Overall, a great class!
Absolutely amazing! The lectures are filled with rich information and all of his slides he shows in class is exact. Funny jokes here and there and is just amazing at giving feedback. Be ready to write pages though.
It is very important to show up to class because all the information needed for the tests will be given in lecture. His lectures are super funny and engaging, so even a 8am class is enjoyable. If you're struggling in the class definitely go to SI, do extra credit, and talk to Professor Nichols.
Attendance matters and make sure to take very good notes (only allows note taking with pen and paper). A lot of homework and essays but nothing too heavy & he's lenient with late work. He also gives feedback and you're able to attend SI classes for extra help.
Don't remember this class much but I got an A, and he was not a mean professor. We did have to some essay/written assignments and discussion boards.
Took this class over the summer! I've never really liked history and have always disliked writing essays, but I actually learned a lot in this course. Each unit includes a quiz, an essay, and a discussion board. The professor is very easy to communicate with and genuinely cares about his students success.
Dr. Nichols is amazing! He made me enjoy history, because he's a natural storyteller. His lectures are so engaging; they're fascinating, funny, and even at times heartbreaking. Show up to class regularly and you'll do fine. He is super responsive and accessible to his students, so don't be afraid to ask for help, because he provides great feedback!
Prof. Nichols is a good professor. His class is super easy. There's a lot of reading, but the quizzes are easy: 4 questions with 2 attempts each. The only graded assignments are quizzes and then the written assignments. He's really particular about grammar and writing mechanics, so make sure you proofread before submitting your assignments.
Enjoyed his class. Would take again.
The readings are very long so be prepared but easy discussion boards and assignments
I took Dr. Nichols for both 1301 and again for 1302. He is nothing but amazing! He truly wants you to be successful. If you regularly attend class and take notes, you'll do more than fine. I was never great with history but I ended up doing well, so it definitely shouldn't be a difficult class if you do your part. He offers help and is very kind!
