Very good & funny professor and an easy class if you do all the work(duh). No study guide, but the tests are easy b/c it all comes from his notes, which he posts on his website and from the book. Everything is pretty straightforward :)

geography isnt a very interesting subject, but he makes some funny jokes most days and is just the most laid back guy ever. no hw, grade is based on the exams. exams include essays, which is weird for a science class. he is great though, he goes through the powerpoint and says "meh, we'll skip that" or "you definitely need to memorize this". easy.

He is an extremly easy teacher funny sarcastic and laid back, I mean after all this is a one unit course. He is unclear sometimes for the worksheets, but will explain till you get it, but I would highly suggest taking his geography and geography lab both at the same time

Awesome instructor - he's VERY laid back, funny, and helpful. All lecture Powerpoints are on the course website; no HW - but really study for the 4 exams because there are essay questions and the multiple choice is not as easy as you'd think. Also, the book will help you with studying, so read up. If you're taking Geog., Pesses is a great choice.

I thought Professor Pesses was a great teacher. The lectures were'nt the most exciting but he is very funny and sarcastic. There is no homework but the 4 exams make up your whole grade so make sure you study! plus you dont have to go to class if you dont want to. great teacher!!

Really easy, just go and he will help you through the whole lab, no hw, no tests except the final. I took him for the lab.

okay those taking his lab say it is easy, but the class is not easy. it is a good class but the exams are pretty hard, so study alot! he is a really good teacher though. he is pretty funny and doesnt make geography sound as boring as it is. take him, but be prepared for the tests!

He makes geography interesting and in his words "sexy." Loved the material, loved the instructor, LOATHED the tests. Your grade is based solely on FOUR tests. 30 multiple choice questions worth 2 points each, 4 essay questions worth 10 points each with a 5th essay for 10 extra credit points. His personality makes him a total fox!

EXCELLENT PROFESSOR! If you don't like Geography take this guy he will make you LOVE IT! Tests are easy if you study, people complaining about tests are ones who do not show up for class and those who do not study the STUDY GUIDES he gives months before the exam. His lab class is also awesome I recommend this professor to any incoming students.

i absolutely loved this guy. i still remember everything he taught. he made geography interesting and understandable and im a class from him again. there are only 4 tests, but he tells you exactly what will be on them so its not diffiuclt if u study a little. Great teacher!

Mr P is fo real. he gives a lot of extra credit. you only have to go to class on test days. je drops your lowest 2 test scores. no hw. buys the top ten kids with the highest scores on a test lunch.

Nice guy with a vibrant and energetic personality. He does offer extra credit, enough so that if you failed a test you have the ability to still get an A if you work towards it on EC. My only qualm with the class is that his study guides don't cover everything on the test, but even then you can get an A/B. Nice fun class, definitely take him.

before i took this class i didn't know much about geography, but now that i have taken this class i see how everything that has to do with geography impacts everyones live. easy class if you pay attention. the lectures helps you get a good grade.

Mr Pesses is so funny. He will have you laughing all through class. Homework is from the text book so thats easy. Exams are another story...HARD HARD!! You really have to understand the material given to you. Lectures are online so no writing is needed. Good luck :]

This guy is funny but don't let that full you the class started at 70 and only about 25 stayed all the way tests are hard hard. I passed with a C aced all hw but the tests are ridiculous.

This professor is absolutely hilarious! Each lecture was interesting in the sense that Pesses brought humor to an otherwise dry course. However this made the class feel unethical at times when our class would fall behind forcing us to skip various subjects. Attend class and pay attention and test scores should not be a problem.

Easy pass. All of the notes are all on the class website. Yeah, his tests were a bit tough but if you actually studied the notes you should be fine. He even warns you if something specific is going to be on the test. He made things super easy to understand. He is funny and really helpful.

He was such an amazing teacher. He was funny and kept lectures amusing. He did not assign too much work, just a few papers and maps and he was very clear on what he expected and was super helpful in office hours. Tests definitely require some studying so do not take if you are lazy!

What can I say about this guy? He's funny (and knows it) and I really dig his casual attitude. I learned a lot, I really liked the cultural aspect of geography. Then again, I enjoy cultural studies. He really made stuff relevant & interesting. I would totally take this guy again if given the chance. I mean, like, yeah, whatever... take this guy ;-)

Mike is a really cool and down to earth teacher. My favorite class I took this year by far. He teaches the information well and makes it stick an all around chill teacher.

He's a really cool guy! Funniest teacher I've had. The only thing is that he moves through things kinda quickly, and for me, geography is hard to grasp. So if you're like me, you just need to pay attention and study pretty hard and you'll do fine!

I had mike for geography and his lab class as well and hes a great teacher, not strict on attendance, lets you do your thing like an adult so dont expect to get babied, he just teaches and makes things interesting, tests are tough but if u study then youll be fine, aside from that hw is straightforward and he is a fun teacher, highly reccomend him

Take this man! I regret not taking more classes with him. I love his teaching methods, examples and sense of humor. He teaches you what you need to know without making it boring. Really study for the quizzes and you'll do fine. Don't expect to pass if you're not willing to put in work. Overall, great professor !

He is awesome and really funny his sense of humor made the topics lighter his tests are a little tricky but if you listen to what he says and do study guide you should be fine. I didn't use the book at all and I did pretty well pretty relaxed class I highly recommend him it's not hard but you do have to put in a little effort

Took both his lab and lecture class. Definitely has an interesting way of teaching. Tests are a little tricky but listen to him and take notes. His tests are based off his lectures. Lab class is easy, just show up and do the lab, easy as cake. Make sure you pay attention! Overall, awesome teacher.

Mike Pesses is just wonderful;he was definitely my favorite instructor.He really cared about every single one of his student's. You can tell he loved what he did as well. We need more teachers like Mike. :)

I don't get why people are complaining about his tests being hard. I can honestly say I barely skimmed over my notes and got 95% on most tests. Absolutely passed each one, didn't pass the class because I'm an idiot and did none of the homework thinking the tests would be enough. Don't let people scare you. This guy is absolutely hilarious. Super chill guy, super helpful. Dont buy the book, its a waste of money, just read the recommended articles, and pay attention during the lectures. You can even print out the required powerpoints before class, and follow along! Do the work, and its an easy A. Highly recommend him for Geography, especially if its your major!

Prof. Pesses is brilliant, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful! He is very funny and approachable and his lectures are entertainment in themselves! Geog can be complex and there is a lot to learn, but even if you bomb the tests you can still pass with an A because of his generous homework points. Highly recommend!

He makes lecture entertaining. He explained things well and even gave away what the big test questions were so it made studying easier. Other than the online homework, there was very little need for the book. All test questions came from lecture and he has a study and lecture slides on his website. If you don't pass, you didn't even try.

Idk how anyone thinks this class is unbearable because by far he's one of my most memorable college professors out of 3 years and im a business major. The lectures were interesting and he treated everyone like adults, so if you have an emergency you don't have to plead, he understands life happens and I respect him overall, plus hes really funny.

Mike Pesses isn't the typical geography teacher. He brings alot of interest into the geography field through funny, modern lectures. There isn't much of a work load but participation matters because his tests reflect his lectures. Pesses is always helpful and is willing to work with you.

Professor Pesses is the best instructor I have ever had the pleasure of taking. He is extremely passionate about Geography and he's hilarious. AVC has a bad rap (well deserved) but Mr. Pesses is one of the few truly wonderful teachers that AVC has to offer and I would take him again even for no credit. He makes you want to attend class.

My fave so far. Lectures are informative but he delivers them as if he were a comedian. Assignments and grading criteria are easy to understand BUT do not be fooled by his lighthearted nature. The tests are tough if you haven't been paying attention and reading. AND you don't have to buy a book! He provides the material for you!!! Would take again!

This was totally one of the most fun classes I've ever taken! I thought it was going to be boring, but Prof. Pesses makes it so funny and interesting! His lectures are awesome! He gives online homework that's pretty easy, and five multiple choice tests with an essay question, but drops your lowest score. Just do the study guide and you'll be fine!

The class was pretty easy because it was a lab. The lab helped me study for the regular Geog101. Pesses is always fun and understanding. His regular 101 is harder but in the lab, he lets you mess around with maps and explore the campus with a compass. The final was an outside survey so it was pretty chill.

SUPER funny, SUPER cool, & makes dirt & rocks SUPER interesting. One of my best teachers & classes. Notes are SUPER important & only 5 tests. He's so passionate about the subject you'll be interested every lecture whether your into geography or not. Definitely recommend him!

This dude is hilarious!! Everyone loves his class because of his down to earth nature. Lectures are interesting and his personal stories keeps you alert in class when things start to get confusing. The homework is on Google Earth and could get confusing at times. There at 5 test during the semester and 7 homework assignments. Study guides use them

If you aren't interested in Geography, this can be a rough class. Google Earth assignments are difficult, but if you are good with computers you should be ok. His comic style of lecturing livens things up and makes you want to attend. I recommend him for students who are more independent, because he will NOT hold your hand! Grades clearly, big plus

Tests are hard BUT everything found on the test can also be found in the PowerPoints that are on his website. Forget the study guide and textbook! Go to tutoring for help with Google Earth assignments because they are hard too. If you reach out to him he will help! Visit him during his office hours. Hard class but you'll pass if you work hard!

Funny guy, keeps his lectures updated and applies concepts to current events. Lectures are good, definitely not boring! It's a tough subject, but he provides study guides that are helpful for the tests. The textbook is free online!

Five test, lowest grade is dropped and curves test (sometimes) He puts all lectures online and study guides. Do the study guide will definitely pass test. Hw is online and is 14 questions you have till the test is due to turn it in. Super funny everyone engages in lectures. Doesn't care about attendance. No project or paper. Easy A

This professor changed my life. Prior to Pesses, I absolutely had no drive and didn't want to continue my education. But after taking one single class with him, it completely turned me around and I have since continued college. Great Professor and would highly recommend.

Had him for 101 and 105 Honors. Truly the funniest and dorkiest professor ever. Tests are a bit hard because the content is hard but he provides a study guide and allows for a 3 x 5 card with notes for the test for 101, and 105 is all online and is a bit harder. Kinda looks like the villain from Alvin & the Chipmunks. Attendance not mandatory.

Professor Pesses is a mixture of Seth Rogan and Michael Scott. You will learn so much in his class and enjoy doing it! Lectures are interesting and engaging. He will always give you a good laugh. You won't regret taking him!

Also provides study guides for each test if you do the study guide while in class it makes it a lot easier. Powerpoints are on canvas. Just to be clear, yes, the textbook used in his class is his own textbook and does cost $105. BUT, if you apply to the books help program at AVC, they will give you an access code to get the book for free! It is required for the quizzes, they are all online. There are 4 tests and the lowest test grade gets dropped. Just study, you will pass.

Very laid back guy. His online lectures were funny. We did not use zoom; he provided PowerPoint and premade youtube videos, and everything is at your own pace with deadlines. Super easy class if you take notes of the slides.

Excellent teacher. No scheduled Zoom sessions. He pre-recorded his lectures and we were able to watch them on our own time. He cancelled the final and let us write a paper on our covid experience instead.

Great professor! He made this class so convenient during covid. His expectations were clear. He cancelled zoom meetings and pre-recorded his lectures. You are able to work at your own pace. Class was super simple and easy to follow! You do have to read to do good on the hw and test but it is doable.

Four homework assignments and four tests. It is clear he is passionate about the subject, he is very informative. The tests are clear; made up of true/false, multiple choice, and one short answer. Very easy class. Pesses is a funny guy, he makes a 3 hour class interesting and you can quite literally keyword search in the pdf of the textbook for hw answers (4 assignments). His tests (4 of them) are straight forward and they really don't require much studying (he allows you a 3x5 index card). He has an easy honors option too if you need it.

Professor Pesses was an awesome professor! He provided a PDF version of the textbook but we often didn't refer to it. All his teaching is through lectures and he posted the slides to canvas. The only homework assigned was per section (There were only four sections throughout)and it was not due until the day after the section test was completed.

This guy was hilarious. His jokes and explanations not only made the lectures more entertaining, but they also helped me remember certain topics we discussed for tests. If you are confused, ask questions! He will explain things to the best of his ability. I was expecting to dislike this class, but I ended up enjoying it.

The class was fairly easy. The reading is easy and straight to the point and the homework and tests were based from of the reading. If you actually take 20 minutes and read you will pass the class.

I liked this class! It's an easy one to take if you have an otherwise heavy workload with fairly interesting material. Some assignments weren't graded very quickly, but they're pretty easy to do! I'd take him again and recommend him if you enjoy / want to learn more about the subject and need an extra class!

Honestly, the subject itself is intimidating, but Dr. Pesses definitely made it simple. There are 4 tests, all straight forward. He provides you with a study guide, AND the pdfs to the chapters that are on the study guide. The hw is about 20 questions. The questions on the hw and the study guide are very similar to the ones on the test.

Easy class I suggest you read the chapters and answer the questions on the study guides. Then only study the study guides and answers to the homework questions and you will do good on the exams. 4 exams, 4 homework assignments and allows an index card with notes during the exams. Study guides, homework and textbook are on canvas.

Simple Class! just gotta read and study. Each week is one discussion, 1 quiz about the lecture/textbook chapter, sometimes a short written response about different events, & 3 different Unit Projects ( each is 5 questions with written paragraphs and citations, not bad). I really enjoyed it, not stressful, & the textbook was insightful and fun!

My favorite professor, awesome lessons, and is willing to go the extra mile to help a student down the path toward a well rounded education. He will tell you how education really works and how to do well, no b.s. whatsoever.

This class was the least stressful I've ever taken! Awesome, caring, understanding. I'm dealing with the after-effects of cancer treatment and Pesses was very kind, caring and understanding. Because his quizzes and "tests" are not timed, it allows one to work on the quiz at one's leisure and submit it confidently by the submission time allowed.

Provided online textbook for free. Very funny, lectures were entertaining. No paper, only quizzes & tests. As long as you read + do the study guides he provides you'll pass with an A. He did review days before tests. Evolution is part of the subject, so if you dislike it understand teaching it is his job because it's in the curriculum!

One of my favorite professors in my first semester/year. The lectures were never boring and he was a genuine teacher who was also really funny. I regret not being more involved in the class and I should have put more effort in the class, it wasn't hard at all. It was interesting to learn a lot of things and share them.

Pesses makes this intro class simple. Definitely use Unstuck ai alongside the textbook to ace the quizzes and unit projects. Engaging lectures, manageable workload, and fair exams - an overall enjoyable experience.

I took him for his lecture and lab, NO HM for his lecture class. He's super funny in class, only 4 exams 49 multiple choice and one writing paragraph question. You should study if you want a decent grade. He drops the lowest test score, which helps out. I came day a week due to work, and I still passed with an "A." i'd recommend taking him!

I really enjoyed taking his lab, but I also took his lecture and both are the same. Make sure to pay attention to the labs! he drops the lowest score lab. He does do make-ups and you can drop off a lab during his lecture class if you need to. He's 50/50 on grading the lab, sometimes I would receive 10 pts out of 10, and then i would receive 7-8 pts

He's a very good teacher, he's very accessible and he gives good feedback. You have to teach yourself most of the lessons, you take a lot of notes but he helps you figure stuff out. Good teacher would recommend.

Professor Pesses is an amazing lecturer and is clearly passionate about Geography. His excitement is contagious, and I found myself questioning a major change to geography several times. He provides a PDF of his very own textbook! The only downside to this class is that your grade is based on 4 homework assignments and 4 essays.
