Most awesome professor I have had. Had him for Calc for Business in Summer and actually got an A because he teaches so well. And he actually makes jokes during class which makes it more interesting. If you're deciding between Israel and Rosenthal, choose Rosenthal!!! Just do the homework, don't come late, and don't let your cell ring. He's the math dept head so he knows what he's talking about!!!

he pissed me off the whole semester cause he is always putting down republicans and president bush so i did bad in his class because i couldn't listen to him try and speak spanish. he is a good teacher though so it was kind of worth it to stick through all his crap

Great Teacher. Explains the material EXTREMELY well and is EXTREMELY helpful. I am really bad with math but seriously he is so so so clear on everything and he goes over it several times. He also doesn't ask the really hard questions on the test's.

This man is quite possibly the best math teacher in Miami. He not only knows math extremely well but can acctually communicate to the student how to complete it. He is an expert when it comes to scientific calculators, and will go above and beyond to teach his students. This is a man who became a teacher for the love of teaching and it shows.

He is one of the best there is, period. FIU should consider itself lucky to have him as a faculty member.

he's a great professor. u have 3 exams and they are all like the problems he assigns for homework. best math professor i've ever had. he's super clear and makes an effort for students to actually understand the material. im taking another class with him this fall. Ok, this guy is a prick...hes very rude to the students, very strict. But hes an awesome teacher! The homeworks online and you cant not get an A. the tests are derrived from the homework. theyre easy but NO CURVE EVER!! but you should do fine if you do the work. No extra credit.

Good professor. You NEED to do the homework. Class attendance is not required, you can go to the Math Dept. and ask for a DVD of his class that he uses for online classes and it's each lesson so even if you miss a class you can catch up with the DVD. AWESOME! and I hate math too!

I took his class online and it was fairly easy. If you do the homework and take notes from his lectures, you should do well. I didn't really get to know him in-person except for exams, but I heard he's sarcastic and not too understanding. But honestly, good math professors are hard to come by at this school. He's your best bet.

GREAT TEACHER! Let me tell you I am HORRIBLE at math. He is very helpful and makes sure there is understanding of the materal. He is always avalible to help. Just dont let your cell go off in class. Prof. Rosenthal, aside from his faults, is an amazing instructor. Do not show up late, do not let your cell phone or any electronic device ring in class, and you'll be alright. Wonderfully clear lectures, great office hours, very helpful.

He is the GREATEST math teacher ever. His homework is easy and online. It is impossible to not get a high mark in your homework. GREAT TEACHER! You don't have to go to class because he has his lectures online but regardless, he explains everything thoroughly. Go to class if you want to ask your own questions. He has rules that he is strict about. TURN OFF YOUR PHONE AND DON'T BE LATE. Other than that you are good.

He was awsome, very clear telling you what he wants you to do for class. In class he barely uses the book, but you'll still need it for the homework. If you do yourhomework and go to class you'll be fine. And even if you dont go to class he has all of his classes on dvd in the library.

I took MGF 1107 online with this teacher. The videos are very easy to understand & he offers to send you a CD with the videos if you can't see them on your computer. The tests were not hard, based completely on the notes and the homework.

Online- Two video lectures per week (VERY easy to understand), assigns about 20 problems per lecture. (optional)There are three tests (or 4? You take them on campus), which make up most of your grade. Forum for questions, answers very quickly. One small assignment that he collects: Spreadsheet on Excel, he tells you exactly how to do it.

The tests are easy, he doesnt really ask about the more complicated material. Cant pass them w/o doing the HW. 3 extra credit problems per test. The final is long and a little hard b/c its ****ulative. Got an A, would recommend. Dont procrastinate on HW like I did! If he spent a lot of time explaining something, itll show up on the test.

When you take this teacher, you need to go into the semester knowing that you are going to be doing work every single day. He is sarcastic and tries to be funny but NOT SO MUCH. But the material he knows, and he does a good job explaining it. So far, I can't pass a math class unless it's with him.

I'm the WORSE at math, but he makes his material understandable. DO HIS HOMEWORK even though he doesn't require it, it'll most definitely help you on the test. You can ask the same question 20 times, and he'll answer it 20 times. He's sort of funny and his lectures are quirky like he is.3 test and one project you can guarantee yourself an A on.

Online. Don't buy the text, WATCH THE MOVIES instead. The material is easy. Movie lectures are very clear. Take notes, study and focus on them. If you understand the movies, you can ignore the text, show up, take the tests and get an easy A. No driving to school. No textbook. No homework. Easy way to knock out a math req. for math morons like me.

i had him for geometry. He moved on pretty fast but i understood all the material. he's very strict when it comes to his rules and policies (he throws out cel phones out to the hall if they ring during class). four tests determine your grade in the class.

Well, i took this guy online, we watched videos taught by him to learn the material, he does try to be funny, but is not AT ALL! His tests were OK, you just have to study and you will do good. Tests are on SAT for online classes & DO NOT B LATE! if u arrive after someone finished, u get a ZERO! Very nice for him to take us cookies on exam days :)

He is absolutely the best math teacher I've ever had. His lectures are extremely helpful, if you want to learn calculus take his class because he really does a good job at it. Nevertheless, his tests are very hard and he does not curve, so studying and doing the homework is imperative.

This professor is the best professor at FIU. I took him for Trig, Calc I, and Calc II, and had a great experience. These are obviously not easy A classes, but he is really great at explaining concepts. He's also super amazingly there for students. Tons of office hours, answers all questions. Just don't be late to class, and shut off your cell.

I would highly recommend this professor. I took his class online and he is very helpful. He even came in on Sundays for Q&A sessions and not everyone went. Go to the Q&A sessions they're very helpful and he gives you clues as to what questions might be on the test. GREAT PROFESSOR!

Best math teacher i've ever had. Highly recommened if you're ready to learn. I found him funny most times, but he does reuse alot of jokes. He tries to learn names as much as he can and is adament about his syllabus. TURN OFF PHONES AND NEVER COME LATE, try not to leave early either as he makes a note of it.

Im new to calculus and i must say that professor rosenthal is amazing at explaining everything. He's always willing to help during his office hours, sure he is rude but it keeps his class interesting. If you know how to do every problem from the homework and you can get a A on his exams. Ok well many people may not like Rosenthal but I LOVE HIM. He can be rude, but he knows how to teach. As long as you respect him, he will respect you. He is always willing to help his students. Office hours are amazing so take advantage of them. If you want to learn Calculus take him. I got an A :)

I can see why people may not like him but I thought he was extremely helpful and nice. The key thing is to NEVER arrive late to his class! If you follow that rule he'll be more than willing to help you with any of your questions. Calculus is not easy but he makes it to the point where even a math illiterate person like myself can do well and pass. Take him!

I took his class online and took his exams in class. If you watch the lectures, take notes, do the homework, and study...his exams are really easy. He responds to emails quickly. I took this course summer A (All 4 exams,22 lectures)and aced it. He explains everything you need to know and then gives you the basic problems on exams, & extra credit.

Awesome Professor. I had him online and his lectures and whole class is like a well oiled machine, perfect. He lectures so well, don't even bother buying the textbook, I haven't even opened it and I am doing extremely well (Math isn't even my best subject). He's a pretty funny guy in class as well, if you have to take any Math class, he's your guy!

Prof Rosenthal is an awesome professor I would say he is the best that FIU has. I took him Online in summer B and had a pretty good class with him. The videos explain everything crysta clear, he will respond to emails if you need help and dont even bother buying the book Rosenthal IS a billion times better than the book. TOTALLY RECOMMEND !!!!!!

I took his course online and found it very easy. He explains things very clearly. Do the suggested homework- all the same types of questions appear on the exams. If you take the online class be aware that all exams are on Saturdays.

I HATE math; am not good at it; don't want to know it; forced to take it to graduate! Having said all that, this Professor makes th process a bit painless. Very clear and concise. I took this class online and it was super easy. (If you pay attention) He uploads the lectures and if you listen and watch it, then you will understand the material. theya re about an hour each. First math class I pass with more than a C since Middle School. If he can accomplish that he is obviously amazing, got all As in exams, something I didn't believe possible. I took him online, lectures are in videos, as long as you watch them and do the assigned HW you will get an A, if I did it I guarantee anybody can. Take him before it fills up!

he likes to tell bad jokes but as a teacher he is amazing! I defintely recommend him. His test are okay in difficulty if you study you will pass with at least a C. Overall, he is a great teacher. Making one understand math is his forte because he uses his clear and succinct voice to get his point accros. All that said, his tests are quite difficult; if you mess up even a little, you will get punished. (in grading of course) great teacher and i recommend him to anyone who is willing to pay attenion.

I took this class online and he was amazing. There were three test and the final. There was online assessments that help your grade and he is quick to respond to all question.

He's a really great professor in that he can explain it to you clearly and help you understand even after class hours. The only problem about him are his tests, which are found extremely difficult if you have a hard time in math. Also, going to his classes will help you understand more and will help him understand you better if you need help.

Professor Rosenthal is by far the BEST teacher I've ever encountered in my life. I took Calculus previously at the beginning of my college studies and did not do so well nor did I comprehend the subject (barely). I'm currently taking his Business Calculus course as we speak and I'm VERY glad I chose him. I give him an A+ for his teaching skills.

Rosenthal is a great professor. His lectures are far superior to the book (I never read it) and his tests are based off of the homework (which should, obviously, be reviewed before tests) and some proofs. The final is going to be tough and should not be taken lightly. He really loves teaching math and he really cares for his students!

He's very passionate about math and wants his students to understand the subject fully; however, he can be a little stuck up about it. I'm not a math person in the slightest, but he made it as enjoyable as possible and was fair in his grading. If you take the class online, USE THE DISCUSSION AREA. I wish I did.

The class isn't easy, but he makes it very doable. He makes himself available to every student. His exams come from the online HW as well as textbook HW. People that complain about him (see below) simply didn't study. I went to every class, did HW, & asked for help in office hours...I got an A in the class. Exams are very fair!

This was not my first time taking this class and with this guy I fully understood him. My only advice is to keep up to date with everything he posts on blackboard. other than that he was really great and this class become like common knowledge to me.

Professor Rosenthal is awesome! I've watched all of his calc 1, calc 2, and differential equations lectures online and his lectures are the best that I've ever seen. He also has a good sense of humor so his lecture videos are not only informative but are fun to listen to as well.

Rosey was one of the best calc teachers you will have. he is helpful and will provide many recources to ensure your success. it is NOT a no effort class but you will be happy you took him

Take him. he is very helpful and he does care and gives you many opportunities to do well in his class. you have to put in work and watch out for his jokes. they may bring you to tears

He is a very good teacher. the class itself is hard. Calc 2 is no walk in the park yet he makes it so doable due to his teaching style. take him. but you have to try

Mr. Rosenthal is an excellent teacher. Math has never been my best subject, but with the help of his videos and office hours, I understood the majority of the concepts. 3 exams, and one final cumulative exam..if you do all four kinds of homework he assigns (only one kind is graded), you'll ace the class, even online.

He is the best teacher as far as clarity goes in the math department. But, the amount of homework is insane, expect to employ 20 hours a week on doing it. Exams are easy but his grading style is unfair. Expect to lose points for not putting parentheses and other silly things; he wants things done HIS way. Plus, he is arrogant and condescending.

Great professor, very willing to help and make sure you pass the class. The exams are all based on the HW questions, and he posts the grades up a few days after the exam. If you're not the best at math but need the credit, TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.

He is awesome, Rosenthal is my favorite professor. He makes you learn math, not just rote memorization like some teachers. Explains everything clearly and does reviews of obscure topics from algebra/trig/etc. that are relevant to the class. Plus he is funny, which keeps things interesting, reduces boredom with the occasional joke. Awesome prof!

he was very interested making students understand the material. its a hard subject so you have put effort into practicing the problems in the book. there is online hw.

I hated math prior to him. Failed MAC1105 twice and moved on to other things. His online class was AMAZING. He is so clear in his lectures that I rarely had questions and when I did he answered within minutes every time. Very fair grader and you can tell he isn't out to get you on his tests. TAKE HIM!!!!! for MGF1106 too!

Took this online and he is a great teacher. bus calc was very hard for me but i was able to pass. His lectures were online and very helpful. 3 Tests in class worth 20% each, 21 mcgrawhill connect quizzes worth 50% in total and a final exam in class worth 25%. The class was hard for me but he is extremely helpful

Fantastic Professor!

I don't understand why anyone would have an issue with him unless they are rude themselves. I am easily distracted and love that he's strict with the class. He responds to emails quickly and practically has endless office hours, INCLUDING WEEKENDS!!! He will do everything he can to help you pass. HIGHLY recommend.

One of the best math professor I've had at FIU. I failed this class when I first took it and I came into this class with a lot of reservations. However, Professor Rosenthal made the material so easy to learn & nearly impossible to fail. Do the homework because the test is composed of problems very similar to it and don't be afraid to ask questions.

This guy was born to teach. Try to take calc w Rosenthal. If you can't, or are absent, his lectures are all free on itunes which you should definitely watch. He's super clear and anticipates any questions we'll have. Just don't be late to class. Seriously.

His teaching methods are really good. His examples are crystal clear and he is willing to help. Overall, he is one of the best teachers that I've encountered so far.

Awesome professor that makes math super easy. Constantly updates his website with class info, has online videos in case you miss class (or don't go),tells you what will be on the exam, has extra office hours (even on weekends!) and will gladly take the time to give you all the help you could possibly need, even after you've taken his class. Kind of a mean person through email, but clear teaching

Excellent professor!! Took him for the fall semester not knowing what to expect, especially because I'm a freshman and it was an online class. So far, I've gotten As on all my tests, and assignments. The lecture is clear, and he is always willing to answer questions by email! Loved the online class!! Take him!

Rosenthal is the best math professor at fiu. He explains thoroughly and is willing to help outside of class. Had a review before the exams and office a lot of office hours. You can watch the videos on itunes. Hard class awesome professor .

Great professor. If you do the homework, you are going yo be prepared for the tests. DO NOT be late for class, it is better not to go and watch the lecture online (yes! he has all his lectures online) if you are running late. He is great and very clear

This professor is great at teaching calculus and helping you understand. His downfalls are that he can be rude (depends what day you catch him) and sometimes just shows no concern for students' well-being. I personally encountered much self-righteousness and disrespect but it's worth a good chance for an A in calculus.

This guy is super picky, a good teacher, quick grader and very up to date, but demands work in a very specific way if you can remember all of his steps the way he does it in class or video exactly you'll get full points, other methodno points, if you don't ask questions he'll think you're lazy but if they're not good he'll be condescending,

Rosenthal is by far the best math Professor at FIU. Has lots of office hours and always open to help. May seem a little intimidating but he likes when students ask questions. All the test questions come word-for-word from the homework, so if you don't pass you were just lazy. Made me love calculus. Could have gotten an A but didn't study for final.

I would definitely recommend this professor. He is very student-friendly though can look intimidating. Always available to help and the examples provided are really comprehensive.

I strongly recommend Prof. Rosenthal for any non-math majors. I struggled in High School with math and with Prof. Rosenthal I have gotten A's on all of my exams. He responds quickly to your emails questions on BB. I would definitely take him again if I could. Just do the HW because the test questions are in the same format. He can be funny too.

I usually never rate professors, but this professor was so helpful! He responded to my emails very quickly & all his video lecture were crystal clear! yes, You need to do the homework & study to pass the test, but definitely do-able. don't take this class with anyone else but him, & take it online!

Class was super hard no way around it.. he helps a lot if you meet with him and go to his office hours. Calc is calc though. you have to work extremely hard. go to tutoring at learning center. tests are on saturdays

Rosenthal is a great professor. Lectures are clear, quizzes help. Do the homework, test is a mirror of homework and quizzes. Tests are not difficult. If you put the effort in you will get the A. The topics discussed are not difficult, even game theory is made easy.

I am very impressed by Professor Rosenthal. I have never had a teacher so dedicated to his student like he is. He is always available to help with any questions and has a lot of office hours. He could be sarcastic at times to students who don't pay attention. Overall, he is a professor who is willing to help you pass any way he can. Take him!

Rosenthal is probably the best professor for Calc at FIU. I had to drop calc two times before taking him because the other professors I had were horrible. This guy really explains everything perfectly and clearly. All lectures are online so you can watch them over and over again which was really helpful. This is not an easy class. You need to work

Where do I start. He's a great professor. But his grading is so unfair. You can get three wrong on the test and still fail because of silly mistakes like parenthesis. Only take it if you're jimmy neutron or Albert Einstein's grandkid.

The average grade for this class is NOT an A. In my class 16 people passes and 14 failed. I have never failed a class in my life and this is my first. I studied every day for this class went to his office weekly and he still failed me. Avoid him

Rosenthal makes you earn your grade. Class is not easy, do the online assessments and study. He is very knowledgeable about the topic. He has a lot of office hours so you can see him if you need to. Non-test days are optional for attendance. 3 tests and 1 final, about 20 online assessments (only 4-5 questions each) and an Excel assignment. Study!

50+ registered, 34 took final, 20 passed class. You do the math!

Professor Rosenthal taught Calculus 1 very well, and took the time to help students out who were struggling. He would always repeat important things such as "the 3 step chain rule". He was always willing to help you with problems, and was fair when it came to grading. I wish he was teaching Calc 2 this semester!

Professor Rosenthal is simply the best way to go when It comes to math classes. He uses homework questions on the test, if you do the hw, you are set for an easy A on the test. His classes are really fun and he likes to explain every single thing to make sure you understand

This is the best math class I've ever taken. Great for Poli Sci and INR majors. He explains the concepts very clearly. You might have to endure his unamusing jokes, but it's an easy A if you show up and pay attention. DO THE HW, OR YOU WON'T PASS. He's very open to helping and so is the TA. You don't really need the book to get an A. Best wishes!

Professor Rosenthal truly cares for his students & is really passionate about what he is teaching! I've never been great at math and he made it so easy!!! Very patient, easy to understand and is available to help whenever you are lost with the material! I would definitely recommend this class if you want to get an easy A for a math credit. STUDY!

Professor is awesome at teaching. The only downside are the three required proctored and my local college charges . It is real difficult to get to them and balance other priorities in life like jobs and family. Instructor is excellent at explaining work to a point where it is understandable. It is just the proctored tests that are bothersome.

Awesome calculus Professor. Has an amazing teaching style and explains calculus concepts so clearly you'll wonder why you never got them before. I'm so sad he's retiring this year, he's truly one of The greatest math professors to ever teach.

I had him for Calculus 1 and 2 a few years ago and had recommended him to my little sister only to find out that he retired. Too bad for her because he was the best professor I had at FIU. He made Calculus seem like common sense. Also answered all my emails immediately.

Prof. Rosenthal is the best professor/teacher I've ever had in my entire life. He put so much care into making the lectures as digestible and intuitive as possible. He would break things down into a very granular level and anticipate the questions we'd have! I just read he retired but he may still have lectures on iTunes University. An inspiration.
