very hard, not helpful, kind of a jerk
requires a lot of work, but not that hard of a teacher
he is a pretty good teacher and explains things very well, but sometimes he askes the class questions and a student answers and he just goes on from there- i usually never hear the student, therefore i do not get the answer
good sense of humor, little too competitive, overall. very informative
Very nice person, has a sense of humor, but sometimes when trying to break things down so students will explain, he still uses terminology that we are new to, and really just reexplains what he said, without breaking it down at all.
Explains things that he expects you to understand, but I think that he's the only one that understands.
Overall clear in presenting material. A good sense of humor helps the class tremendously. The material for the class is built upon what we have already learned and is structured so we can understand the material very easily.
He teaches the material to fast, and it is hard to understand. I think he is the only one in the class who understands the material.
Pretty good overall...really into his classes...some days too much. Students would enjoy this class more if they would just show some interest.....
Great visuals. Well explained material. If you have the IQ of a breath mint and are less willing to attend class than the French are a war, do not take this course. All others should do OK. ;>)
Has us do alot of work, the test are kind of hard and some times his expainations are not very good
Good teacher, has too much passion for the subject, but makes the information clear and understandable
He is an alright teacher. He ia a little full of himself.
He teaches ok, but sometimes he goes on all day about one thing, and when he explains something usually he has already explained it. I've learned little.
Good teacher, doesnt make things too hard, tries to help out a lot. Will probably get beat it badmitten by me if i decide to play him, like the humor too.
Wants you to understand to do well in his class.

This teacher is awsome. He helps out a lot and gives you a good explanation of what the asnwer or whatever you're seeking is. Stories are funny brings a little humor to the long class.

Understands the importance and usefullness of GIS. Attempts to get students to understand how to use the information. Too bad more students don't take GIS classes, they are very useful in many ways. LLC should have more of these classes.

Great Teacher!
I think that he knows so much about the subject he is teaching that he gets wrapped up in it and forgets that we DONT know it. Towards the end of the semester we have to cram a lot of information and grade go down. I would recommend him as a teacher.
great sense of humor and i don't know where he gets his patience to deal with some of these people who don't understand basic concepts. look out a window sometime people. athleticism fades yet the mind remains
this guy is hot, i dont know why he hasnt gotten a chili pepper yet!
Mr. Rudibaugh is an excellent teacher with quite the interesting commentaries on life in general, and a vast wellspring of knowledge of weather. I had a great time in his class, and learned a lot. I'll never look at weather the same way again.
I'll help you to reach your chilli. I took it at first because I thought it would be an easy A, I thought "how difficult could talking about clouds and tornadoes be?" Well there is much more to it and you made the class very entertaining.
I was hoping the class would be a little more exciting. The quizzes were somewhat easy (esp toward the end), but the tests sucked the whole semester. I really wouldn't recommend this class to anyone.
thats right sports fans, hes back for another semester of lame jokes and dumb imitations! Rudi has been known to be one of the most cocky professors yet. I can beat you in any sport, oh wait i mean ping pong! (not even a sport). just kidding,- fun class
Very funny and HOTTT!
Mr. Rudibaugh knows he weather and climate, but not his students. Talks more about personal life than himself then expects you to know everything. Given a final on his life and his best quality, loyalty, i'd get an A++. I would not recommend to take him.

For all of you who thought that this class would be a blow off course, I wouldn't recommend taking it. It is a tough class and his tests are hard and confusing. Good Luck if you fail to take my advice!!
Great Class! It's nice to have a teacher that actually prepares you to get a job!
I always heard mixed things about Mr. Rudibaugh and after taking his class i have discovered that he is a really funny guy who is very passionate about what he teaches. The tests are not too bad as long as you study.
Mr. rudibaugh is a very funny person. Overall he is very intelligent with alot of things besides weather. He was a very interesting teacher but i did feel like he favored a lot of students. I think he should have MADE MORE TIME 4 SERVERE WEATHER!!!
Great teacher; explains content well and very helpful. Tests are easy if you study, and you get 2-3 tries on every quiz. Made the class fun and entertaining with jokes and personal stories. I would highly recommend this class and would take other classes with him.
I liked quizing using WebCT, and having the ability to quiz at our own leisure, pace, and more than once. I also liked the use of power point, actual weather maps via the internet, and other aids that were used to teach weather in the Midwest. Also, the labs were always well explained.
I enojoyed this class as much as I could. He did have some stories that were pretty funny, but most of the time he was lecturing. I also enjoyed havin gthe quizzes online, and being able to do things at our own time.
Well.. he is a good teacher, but he is a little to self centered. He always wants to challange students in tennis, which is fine but i don't think it should be brought up in class time.
The class is a lot more involved than you would think. He knows what he is talking about, and I learned a lot from him. His personal stories are really funny. I liked the online quizzes and weather maps. Mr. Rudibaugh is a very nice guy, and I also hear he is a good tennis player :)
I enjoyed the class. He made the subject matter interesting. I liked the online quizzes and tests but it somewhat difficult with other classes and a job. I liked the labs but I didn't like my lab partners. He isn't only knowledgeable in the weather but is up to date with the young crowd. Good class.
DON'T EXPECT AN A. HAVE TO ATTEND CLASS TO PASS.
This class was awful!! I dreaded it everyday. He doesn't care if everyone gets it, just as long as 3 or 4 people do! He does almost everything online. He thinks very highly of himself!!! DON'T take this class, others had sampson and said he was awesome!!!
He definitely knows his stuff. Be sure to show up every class or you might miss out on points. He does think rather highly of himself, but he is funny as hell. I enjoyed the class and I recommend taking it with him if you are in it to learn something. It's not easy, but if you show up and do the work assigned, you should do fine.
This was a hard class for the unscientific mind. Mr. Rudibaugh is willing to help you understand the course if you ask for the help. He does know his stuff and it was a pleasure being in his class. He is funny but a real person. He made the interesting. I wish we would had more time to talk about the severe weather chapters. Thanks Mr. R
Class was easy if you already know the subject. If not, take somebody else. Mike thinks a lot of himself and can be rude at times.
Fun class...hard learning curve but he was very interactive with the class and was very helpful. He is a bit full of himself sometimes, but that just makes listening to him more fun. RECOMMENDED!
pretty outgoing and cool, had him for GIS, definately cool, hello we are having a cook out after finals..psh.. swweeeet!
Is too full of himself to be able to teach anything. Does not like to teach and it shows. Put your students yourself and you will do a better job.
For weather and climate, he keeps you interested most of the time. Sometimes hard to see where he's going with his lectures. Have to study for tests to get good grades.
He's a funny guy, even though his tests are pretty hard
Funny guy. Really strives to get students interested in topic. Is also concerned about students' success in life itself. Should attend class and do assignments if you want to understand. Not impossible, but not a blow-off class. Very approachable, understanding, and nice.
Interesting teacher
Very cool
He teaches an overview of the class. Yet, all of the quizzes and tests are very specific. He makes the class too difficult for a freshmen level class at a community college. He thinks the class is so easy and has no idea when his class average is a D. Teach the curriculum, punk, and stop talking about yourself.
He knows what he is talking about and is willing to help as long as you ask for it. Tests were difficult at times and you have to make sure you study. Use the book even if he doesnt that much. It will help. Make sure you show up to class everyday and youll be fine. Overall a good teacher
Interesting class. He makes it easier to understand material.
He teaches you as if you are in his major. Teaches good information and if you pay attention you will do fine. I was told DO NOT take his online class. It is supposed to be 10x harder. Take him in the classroom and you'll do ok. He also likes to wear denim haha
Great Instructor, Knows Weather and climate well, Loves Dinosaurs, Loves his family, Doesnt Stay on topic he tends to fall off topic but only to make the class exciting, expects alot from you, makes you complete his sentences to make sure your comprehending the information, makes you look up youtube videos and do labs overall good guy deserves cred
I didn't sign up for an online class, so why is every lab and quiz on Blackboard? He stays on topic for about 10 minutes, and spend way to much time talking about himself and current events. I feel like I'm in a different class when I read the book. Dont make assignments using horrible online programs YOU don't even know how to use.
He thought that things were clear when they weren't. It would take him forever to reply to questions asked via blackboard mail. But did give bonus points at the end of the semester.
Doesn't stay on topic AT ALL. He is all over the place. The tests are way too hard and do not follow along with the notes or the book. He is very knowledgeable about the subject, but expects too much for an entry level course. He has made comments like "If you don't understand the scientific method, you shouldn't be able to graduate high school".
He is very intelligent on the topic. However, he does not stay on topic AT ALL. The test AND quizzes does not correlate with ANYTHING and they are HARD. He constantly forgets to post quizzes, which are ONLINE when it is not an ONLINE class. He thinks he is making sense when he is not. He does not respond back to emails in a appropriate time frame.
He is knows the topic. However, the test and quizzes are HARD. They use the book when the book is not referenced. There is no extra credit, your grade relies on the tets and quizzes. He is hard to get ahold of via email. I would not recommend him.
As long as you attend class you'll do fine. If you're not paying attention to him it seems as if he is scattered, but everything ends up to relating to his original point. He's an interesting guy, so pay attention!
Mike is very intelligent and knows his stuff although I feel he forgets that he is the instructor, who has to teach and educate those who have no little to no prior knowledge of the subject(s). I took his intro to GIS class and everything is straight forward but the tests are hard and he expects too much for it being an intro class.
High quality class
He has a tendency to make the class more difficult than it needs to be, but because of that, you really learn a lot from it. He shows you the professionalism that is behind GIS mapping, and tries to incorporate that into the class and in his teaching.
He was a jerk! He seemed to get some type of a high watching people struggle with his class. Its basically all online even though you go to class. He makes the class much harder than it needs to be. I did learn a lot but nothing that will matter to me in the futur
Great to work with a teacher who actually works in his field or profession.
Prefers to be called Dr. He spends a lot of time talking about useless information you don't need to know or even use in class. If you are religious, he will make backhanded comments about God and the creation of Earth. You do learn a lot in class but most of it is online. Save time to watch the videos!
i have taken many of Mike Rudibaugh's classes, as an Earth Science major, i have come to not just know him by teacher, but also as friend. Mike inspired me to follow a career choice in a field i had never even heard of, but after doing an internship thoroughly enjoy!
Incredible teacher! Participate in class and you will learn more things about him and weather and climate than you ever thought you could! He shares great personal stories! Its not easy! You must work! But I enjoyed his class immensely. Ask him about why he majored in Psychology! :)
1st day of class I was excited to come back and learn. Then I leaned that he would try to bring in the real world to relate back to his lectures and it made no since at all. It just confused me even more. But if you do all your assignments and maybe miss one or two he is willing to help you at the end of the semester. Overall he was good guy.
I would highly suggest not taking an online class with him, he doesn't respond quickly to emails, not well organized, assignments aren't clear and he's a very tough grader. Expect to do things on the weekends I had assignments due on Easter and a final exam due on Mothers Day.
I am for the most part a high A grade student. I got a B in this class. Considering its a level 102 class, it was way harder than this. I recommend taking it with a different teacher, unless this is your major, you will struggle a lot. I studied for the tests a lot and did not do good on them. Lectures were long and off topic.
Most projects are in a group of two to three. I know about his family more than I care to. As an Earth Science major I should be more interested but I'm extremely bored. Tries to be funny. Just mention a space movie and he'll get off topic... Connects weather to sports though not everybody cares about sports. Don't recommend. Conceited know-it-all.
He enjoyed making jokes about suicide, people with bipolar disorder, and how stupid his students are. Not to mention he never seemed to actually be talking about weather. He preferred to discuss his son's sports and how great of a coach he is. I Iearned more about weather from Google and YouTube than the professor himself.
I took this class as a gen ed credit online and wish i wouldnt have. He always made rude remarks on posts and was very tough with his grades. If you have to take this class do not take it with him.
Dr. R is not the easiest person to get to know and most of the time it seems like he doesn't care. If you show a interest in his class he will go to the ends of the earth to help you. He will extend due dates, and help you with projects. he is adamant about being called Dr. but if you can get past that you will enjoy his class.
Dr. Rudibaugh is a tough person to get to know but if you shew interest in his class he will help you. He allows you to bring him assignments to check them over. and will joke around with you he likes to get to know your major and is happy to assist even if he isn't your advisor. I look forward to his class!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Lectures are VERY long, can last up to 2 hours. Most of the time he gets off topic. Labs are done in groups, but you don't get very much class time to work on them. I am an A student and I am struggling to get a C in this class. Dr. Rudibaugh is a good person with a kind heart. This class is just very difficult.
He was always there when I needed help!! I would take this class again with him!!!
Dr. Rudibaugh was the worst professor I have had at Lake Land. I cannot express enough how condescending and rude he is. He would rather ridicule the major you picked than talk about weather and climate. I don't mind having to work for a good grade but, I need to be taught the material in order to do so. He completely failed at that.
DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE CLASSES. He will not respond to you in a timely manner, if ever. He doesn't answer questions about homework, he just send you YouTube videos. His test questions are out of left field. Terrible, terrible, teacher. Probably the worst I've had at Lake Land.
I took the online course. He rarely responds to questions and the material he quizzes and tests his classes on are not in the book or the YouTube videos he shares. I have not hated a class so much before. I am an A-B student and received a D in this class.
I would not recommend taking him. Has an attitude and if you don't laugh at his jokes, gets offended and waits for someone to laugh. He only covers half of what is on the quizzes and tests in class, I basically had to teach myself the lessons. Has errors on quizzes and tests, & refuses to give credit back because he gives "extra credit" at the end.
I took his online class this past summer and it was a big mistake. He gave homework or a lab almost everyday. He is a very tough grader for this being a level 100 class. I struggled a lot. He is very unorganized and hard to understand when it comes to what he wants you to do in lab. I definitely would not recommend taking his class.
Hate this professor, all he would do is talk about his kids and family. Didn't really learn anything through this class. I would recommend to take someone else!!!
The material is very difficult and there is a lot of it. Not all homework can be completed due to it being outdated. The material he teaches is not accurate at times when compared to government agencies. The tests and quizzes are full of grammar mistakes and the questions are oftentimes unclear. Some T/F questions manage to be partial credit...
Awful. Took him online and made a huge mistake. A ton of reading and hours of watching YouTube videos. Answers on his tests/quizzes are sometimes wrong and heavily conflict with what the book says. Many questions do not even come from the material. Sounds extremely rude in emails. Worst professor I have ever had.
His a fine teacher, however, if you're an unprepared student or lack any study skills you might have issues with his style.
He is a great professor! I really enjoyed this class. I look forward to attending more of his classes.
I did not like having Mike for a professor. He never responded to my emails and was very rude if he did. Also, his quiz and test questions do not correspond to right answers in the book. Would not recommend and would take someone else.
More difficult than you'd probably expect from an entry level course. The quizzes and exams are really challenging. The reading can be a bit tedious, but you have to do all of it pass, and make sure to carefully study all the vocabulary. If you don't have to take this for your major, you'll probably wish you picked something else.
Dr. Rudibaugh demonstrates concern for his students and attempts to be very fair. The material is difficult and requires a lot of reading, but there is no way to teach it without expecting students to master it. I appreciated that he selected the most important chapters and did not expect us to master the entire text. Earlier ed. page refer. for Q
Dr. Rudibaugh knows his field and is enthusiastic about it. I cannot attest to his other classes, but his ESC106 allowed me to learn a lot. It is a computer based course. He is eager for his students to understand the possibilities of GIS. Whether you need this course for your major or not, be open to what you are learning. It can only benefit you.
This class is a lot harder than you would expect for an entry level elective with physics and calculus. "Dr. R", as he calls himself, assigns 2+ hours of youtube videos with each chapter on top of the reading. It's so much info, you can't retain it all. Answer every question with an essay-like answer or he will mark it wrong as "incomplete".
I tried emailing him for help and he refused to help me. The material he tests on is not in the notes he gives you. be prepared to use outside resources and still struggle to find help. worst class I have ever taken!
I had difficulty learning some of the topics
Even though no one was ready, his class was difficult for the online transition, but if things had been normal, I loved the class and would take it again.
The class okay to begin, with the transfer to online due to Covid-19 things began to grow more and more difficult. I did like how the homework was easily distributed but I did not like how I had to somehow know the information that was being given to use. I think we had zoom calls to go over lectures it would of been more beneficial.
He was my absolute favorite Professor during my time at Lakeland. He made a subject, I was not certain about, great to learn and easy to understand. I loved the class and the Doctor. It is worth taking.
I liked class better when it was in person before COVID. If you interact with him either in class or through email, you have a good chance of passing. He gets off topic and will pause the youtube videos he shows A LOT. However, he puts things into perspective for you to understand it. Overall, he is both a good person and professor.
Great class. He's an amazing professor and cares about his students. Very clear on what to do, gives good feedback, and offers a chance for extra credit at the end of the semester. There are projects to do as well, they are fun sim modules though! I took his Physical Geography online intersession class. Definitely recommend!
Gives a very detailed description of what he expects from assignments (which was very helpful).
For being an online class, I enjoyed the use of lecture videos and corresponding powerpoint, also his canvas set up is very easy to follow and understand, just pay attention to those deadlines!
I truly enjoyed taking Mr. Rs class. Out of all 6 of the classes I took this semester it was by far the one that challenged me the most, but in a good way. He was never not up to help if you had questions or were struggling. Sometimes the explanation on course assignments were difficult to understand but asking for clarification was easy. Thank u!
I do not recommend this class to student that prefer to be in class because I am a visual learner and would have done better in class.
Dr. Rudibaugh made class so fun despite the circumstances of online learning. I have always been curious about our solar system and how the weather works and this class was amazing! I felt like he truly understands his students and was quite flexible with homework to work around us. Thank you for a wonderful semester! I highly recommend this class.
Sooooo this entire course is paying hundreds of dollars a month for a professor who does not even teach anything. All we did was watch YouTube videos from other people, and all of the labs were copied and pasted from other professors. Literally one of the laziest professors I have ever had. You will become very annoyed as well.
Professor Rudibaugh mostly assigned things on weekends, primarily Sundays. He also assigned an exam and quiz during spring break, and when spring break was brought to his attention, he released the exam ONE DAY EARLY so that we could complete it before spring break. I hate professors like this, and he never taught. Only watched youtube videos.
I would not recommend taking this class. He always assigns tests/quizzes/assignments on weekend days specifically Sundays. He had us take an exam during Spring Break. He doesn't seem to want to help his students.
The course was very easy. Not only does he give specific written direction to the labs he also made videos giving you the answers to most questions. Plenty of time to do work and gives you multiple chances on quizzes. He also sends out plenty of emails with extra information that is always helpful when completing the assignments. Easy course.
Great teacher and made everything so much easier to understand than it first seemed. Provided helpful videos and always replied in a timely manner when needing assistance. He was always on his game when grading and helping students. He made the course a lot easier to understand and never piled on too much work :)
A very understanding and fair teacher willing to help whenever needed.
Did not teach material during lectures and expected to teach yourself through online book.
Easy going and really good at putting out reminders of due dates on canvas.
I would have loved to have been in the classroom rather than on line for this class because I think he's probably better using that method. He obviously knows his stuff and he shows genuine concern about whether or not his students are understanding the important concepts for this course. Yo! That's why I'm here! Thanks, Mike!
Taking this class online was very difficult. Did not help me when I emailed for help on labs and homework. Probably would have been completely different if I would have taken it in person.
Very knowledgeable and fair
Talks about unnecessary things in lectures. Lots of unclear lectures. Does not give much time to do test or exams. Will push back assignment times day they are do. Beware of changing criteria and due dates of you miss any days.
This was my favorite class last semester. Dr. R is very knowledgeable and you can tell he is passionate about his job and the weather! I liked weather and climate before taking this class but now I have become obsessed! I would definitely take another class with Dr. R given the chance!
I don't leave reviews for professors often, but this is genuinely the worst course I've ever taken. The professor is rude in his emails, writes impossible questions that have no correct answer (then fails to provide points to those who missed it), and hasn't updated the material in this class since 2020. At the very least, avoid his online courses.
He talks about unrelated topics & shows unrelated videos in class. Taking this class in person felt like a waste of time. Although it was a two-hour class, he expects you to watch hours of videos outside of class, which are of other peoples' or professors' content. This was the worst class I took and I strongly recommend against it. Save yourself!
very good at making things in class understandable to everybody, uses informational videos from youtube. great class for a science credit and great teacher.
The class content is hit-or-miss, but Unstuck AI helped me stay on top of the material. Go to lectures, use the textbook, and give it your best effort.
Please never choose to take one of his classes online. His lectures are great and he really loves teaching. Amazing professor and is good at providing analogies on the fly for almost all of the topics.
I would only take him in person. He knows his stuff but his online classes are so hard to follow. He is a very smart guy in the science field but i think his lectures will stick more in person. Occasionally rude, and he will always give backhanded comments.
