Great professor, kind of awkward/anal - pay attention to the reviews and the class and you'll be just fine.
Straightforward lectures and relatively easy tests if you copy down what he writes on the board. Drops the lowest test grade which is nice for that time when you want to slack. I agree... he's a bit awkward.
Class can be difficult but 2105 is good and everyone should take it. Keep up with notes and reviews and LISTEN. He tells you clear cut what he will put on the test, and don't be suprised if it's everything.
It was okay.
Great teacher, very intelligent. Pay attention he's a tough tester. Take good notes and you'll be fine.
I took both economics from him. He is great!!! You have to pay close attention, but he explains everything until everyone understands it. You just have to let him know.
He is obsessed with Seinfield. Many of his tests include questions that he pulls from the show. It is possible to recieve credit for questions you get wrong if you talk about Seinfield on your test.
He goes over things well, but sometimes diffucult on clarity. Do not just study his study guides differ alot from actual test!!! Test mainly from lecture hardly from the book
He is very awkard and very obessive over his writing assignments
good teacher

This class was definitly work...HE was hard and very strick....NOt recommened unless you have no life other than school
He was my least favorite teacher in a lonnnng time. He is obsessive compulsive and does not make class enjoyable at all. Wayyy to rigid. VERY hard tests. Good luck.
YUCK! I HATE teachers that call on you when u dont raise your hand! He is one of them. Not a nice man, no sense of humor. I just want to shake him and say, "there is life beyond economics" I always developed severe nausea before and during his classes, which didnt disappear until i dropped his class. Take Lois Lynn instead, she is much nicer!
BEWARE!!!
Willing to take time to meet with you after class if you need additional help but most of the time I left more confused than when I started. Tests are hard and notes are abundant. Will not take him again.
He calls on you A LOT even if you don't want to be called on, but it does keep everybody on their toes. He is kind of a jerk, but not the point that you can't handle it. Tests are hard, but if you work hard and don't whine about the class, you'll do just fine. People just need to work harder and not compain that they have to learn something.
tough but fair
dont even think about it
bit of a pain in the ass but overall OK - make sure that you don't miss a bunch of classes because he tests on every little thing
This guy is a freakin jerk. Struggle to make C's in the class. Dont take his class
good class - very interesting
He is respectful, but not nice, if that makes sense. Material can be confusing, but it's not too bad, but his test are VERY hard and that's what makes this class a pain. You can't miss at all or you will be lost! He is picky about his writing asignments and honestly kind of dorky. It's not too bad, but if you don't have to take him I wouldn't!!
If you are a person that doesn't like to come to class and listen don't take this class. An A is very likely if you put the effort into the class. He is a great teacher and explains the material very well.

Mr. Ryan's class may seem difficult at first. However, you must read your notes and be prepared to go to class everyday. And please....follow his instructions.
Mr. Ryan is a very good teacher... you just need to come to class. If you come to class and pay attention, the class will be very easy.
good class - tough teacher
He was a fair instructor but challenging. Do not miss class or it will be very tough to catch up.
good teacher
Prof Ryan is a good teacher, just come to class and DO THE WRITING ASSIGNMENT. dont study his review, but study over the notes, take good notes, and he doesnt write everything down you need to know, so be keeping up with what he says, but he is a very good teacher and gives some extra credit. I am taking him again for Micro...
I absolutely hated this class and no one needs to take it.
I was worried about this class at first but ended up loving it. Professor Ryan is an excellent teacher and I hope to take him for Macro. As long as you make an effort you will do fine.
Good teacher. You may not like him at first, but he makes you learn. You WILL get called on and he wont take I dont know for an answer! I would take him for Micro, but I dont need it.
Well, there are many words to define this man...but I will limit it to 3 words...HELPFUL (you gotta ask though. He is not a mind reader), CLEAR (his notes are the key to a good grade), and FULL OF KNOWLEDGE(despite what other students say he is full of). Want an easy "A", maybe there are some P.E. classes open this semester.
talks really fast- helpful- study web ct, don't chew gum, pay attention, attend class and study mediocre and you will make A-B
Mr. Ryan is an awesome teacher and an overall cool person. I had him for two hybrid ECON 2105 and 2106 classes and the classes were easy. Everything was online and you have participation that counts as a big portion of your grade. He will also go over any subject as much or as many times as you need it. Great teacher.
good instructor but too strict - most test info comes from notes - practice problems help alot
tough class - follow all instructions and make sure you make it ti class every day - test come from notes all the way
I had to drop this class after about five weeks because I failed the first two tests and had a 55. I didn't feel that the material was completely over my head or that he didn't explain it well, I just felt that his tests came out of left field. I also didn't like his teaching style; he would randomly call on people and it was very intimidating.
great professor - make it to all lectures to help your grades
mr. ryan is tha man. he doesn't put up with junk from students. don't be lazy with this class. attendance is key. don't show up, you'll fail. he's kinda OCD but i think it helps with class orderliness. do the practice problems and pay attention. you'll do fine
A True Asset to Gainesville State College!
cool dude - good class
His internet class is a joke he gives so much work like we don't have any other classes besides his. He is very strict! If you email him he replies rudely.
Great teacher! I had him in class and for internet instructions. He is very strict with attendance and participation but it really helps your grade. He explains everything very clearly and makes it fun. I would definitely recommend this teacher.
Good teacher - tough but fair - answer to the last question on the final is (a)
Absolutely wonderful teacher. He can be a bit quick- so you much pay attention. this class is NOT for lazy students. VERY helpful outside of class. he will MAKE SURE you understand EVERY part of what you are confused on in his class. GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!! made an A.
Yes, Michael Ryan's online Macro Economics course is a lot of work, however, is mostly graded for participation. You have to be pretty lazy not to make a passing grade in his course. Now his exam is very hard. You need to remember all formulas and calculations in order to maintain a letter grade. Overall I would definiately recommend Pro. Ryan.
Took the online verison of Econ 2105. Everything was well presented and material was very helpful in completing the course. No textbook required for online class, all material is supplied via website.
Cool Teacher, likes baseball and polo shirts. Seems like a real family man. He needs to get some sleep I think. But is a great and fun and energetic teacher with lots of cool examples.
He's smart but just doesn't know how to teach.
Do not take this class...the tests are hard to understand...and he covers the material very quickly. His quizes online are not very helpful when testing
He's a very nice guy, sense of humor, and very smart. But his tests are not like what you go over in class, or the practice he gives on e learning. The material in class wasn't that hard, but the tests came out of nowhere. I don't like that he calls on random people during class. I wouldn't ever take him again.
Horrible teacher. Cant teach at all. Alot of test material is not what you go over in class. Is strict with attendance. Hes also not very helpful.
The teacher teaches just fine but it is a hard class. He is actually a very good teacher, but if you don't get it , you don't get it. A LOT of people DON'T get it! I only studied his notes from class and walked away with a C. He gives extra credit.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Mr. Ryan, don't let this go to your head if you read it to your students.
Class is a little bit difficult because of the nature of the course but he tries to make things understandable. Also, he wont' keep the class if he is done teaching something. I had him for the hybrid course and the only bad part is having to take a midterm and final...the regular course doesn't have them.
Mr Ryan is a very good teacher. He is very helpful. If you do his practice quizzes on e-learning you will be fine in his class but study your notes too. He wants his students to learn and he keeps his classes intersting by always applying today's history. He has a great sense of humor and invites class partication.
This guy was ridiculous. For an online class, he was really demanding. If you are scheduled to take his class, drop it.
SUCKED!! Petty...can't eat in class, chew gum...not good at explaining. Rude.
This jerk does not let us text in class at all.
Mr. Ryan is a great teacher! He always takes the time to make sure everyone understands what's going on, and if you don't he will explain after class. He also makes himself available to students by being in his office quite a bit. The paper was stressful, but take your time and GO TO THE WRITING LAB! Grow up and leave your phone at home!!
I took both Econ's online. Mr. Ryan is great! Information is very thorough, but do not miss assignments. I didn't buy the book; all the information needed was included in course materials online. Easy class if you put in a little effort. As far as phone issues, grow up! Your employer would be offended if you were texting in a busines meeting!
Extremely nice and helpful, but you have to do your work and it's a LOT easier if you go to class. No gum, food, or texting, but come on: it's college. Tests are kind of hard, but they're okay if you study. Look at the practice quizzes and be sure to study. He's really great though. :)
He was an awesome teacher. All you have to do is pay attention in class and do the online practice quiz's and you are sure to make an A. Only one paper that is one page long, and as long as you put effort forth and do it he'll give you a 100! He gives an opportunity for extra credit on each test. He was awesome and I would recommend him to anyone!
Good guy. Talks pretty fast, but always lets you out early. Pretty strict as other comments have stated. Pretty straight forward.
I was an A-B student until I took this class. I am a Pre-Med major and took this class just to satisfy a certain area of classes requiered. Mr.Ryan does not clearly explain the material.. If you ask for additional help all he does is draw another graph which does not help when you already are confussed I WOULD not recommend him. I went to classCONT
CONT from below. I went to class everyday and always studied and did all the work and still ended up with a D. If you are looking for a good class to take.. THIS IS NOT IT! He does not require the book and doesnt make you go to class.. but its still not worth it when you end up not even learning that much..
Trying to get this professor to explain something is almost like talking to someone that speaks a different language. He is so consumed in terminology that he can't simply explain anything.
Hardest class EVER! do not take.. whoever said its an "easy A" is on something. or an econ major that's a know it all.
VERY good teacher. very thorough& makes sure that everyone understands the topic. he tries to incorporate examples that are easy to understand. he has online practice quizzes that are available only if you want to do them, but they really do help. he gives study guides& a make up test . TAKE HIM! im taking him for MACRO.
Really good professor. I learned a lot in his class, and had no problem understanding his lectures or tests.
had him for micro and macro. Very good teacher, but very hard. Hes very picky and strict. Gives optional online quizzes for practice nad gives study guides, but they dont really help for the test. Tests take A LOT of studying. Must go to class and take very good notes. Over all a good teacher, but must be willing to work. Had an A until the final.
Class is not the easiest but still managable! He will not always help you but the discussion boards, which are mandatory, usually do. Would take again.
I took this as an online class, so almost all of the assignments were graded on participation. except for a paper, short easy project, and the final. the final is worth too much of your grade and its not very simple, so its hard to end up with an A. He seems like a bit of a jerk when he responds to anything you ask, but in person he's really nice
I took this class online and thought it was pretty fair. I ended up with a B because i did not study very much for the final. if you actually study and know the formulas, then you can easily get an A. know everything and you're set.
I took the online course and althought the material is not that hard you are required to log on everyday. You are graded on participation, online quizzes, an essay and a short project which pretty much is an easy A.However, the final is hard and even though I studied, I ended up with an 80 which brought down my grade from an A to a B.
Very hard class. So much work and he puts trick questions on the tests. He words things backwards. Prepare to work harder than any other course at GSC.
For his online clas you need to complete all posts, homeworks, and practices quizzes by deadlines in order to get 100% on all of em. If you do, you have a good chance of an A or B for the class. If you don't, your dead.
Online Macro Economics class. I must advise that you do all the assignments during the semester! Do all the assignments then you will be in good shape going into the final. The final is worth 40% of your grade. The final is tough. I had a 100% grade before the final and got a 62 on the final. B in the class. (I studied 10 hours for the final)
I took the online Econ course. It was very simple and straightforward. He tells you everything that needs to be done and you can do a lot of it ahead of time. I should have studied better for the final but even with a C on the final I still made an A in the class. Just do the lessons and take notes then use the notes on the homework and quizzes.
Took the online class - the class wasn't too difficult but the final is a killer. My grade pre-final was 101 but ended up making a B in the class. He gives opportunities for extra credit - TAKE ADVANTAGE!
His class is a must attend and pay attention. I was very confused a lot of the time and sometimes when you ask for help he is so involved with his understanding its hard for him to teach others in basic terms. His examples seem to be complex. Make sure you do all the work!!! Get started on things ahead of time if you can.
His classes are not the easiest. I took Micro and Macro(online). He goes over material quickly and has a true passion for econ. The problem is the tests, which have tricky worded questions. The finals are difficult. Avg final is 69%, you usually need a B on it to keep an A. Take if you enjoy econ. Don't take if you're just looking for an easy A.
Advice-- be ready to GRAPH, keep up with the abbreviations, do practice problems, and study concepts you need to work on. If you can keep up, he explains things which can be hard to understand, in the easiest way possible. THIS CLASS HELPS YOU UNDERSTAND THE WORLD. Econ is something everyone should learn about. I recommend if you're ready to STUDY!
Be prepared to STUDY, Start assignments early to you will have time. Do all assignments on time (no late work accepted). He is very knowledgeable about his subject, at times it is hard for him to explain things in an easy to understand format. Learned a lot from the class discussions. DO NOT get behind! Had a 98 before final and came out with a B.
Great professor! Expects you to study; apathy in this class will get you nowhere. If you need help, just go to his office, he is willing to help. Brillant econ teacher!
I took Ryan's Online Macro class. Both myself and everyone I know in that class hated it. He posts quizzes every week and there are often questions in them that he does not cover in his material for the week. He also makes you post one discussion thread or answer every week. I liked his standards for posting, but he was often rude in his responses.
His online course is good but he is very strict on deadlines. Final exam was worth 30% of course grade. Students who picked up all of the easy participation points during the semester probably made As or Bs.
Tests are insane. Teaching wise he's great, but when it comes to test there tends to be a lot of material on there that he never discussed in class. Has a tendency to be rude. Zero empathy. Uses material he NEVER went over in class. Pretty nice for the most part but near the end of the semester I gave up asking questions he was so rude.
He's very straightforward with the material, and explains things in simple terms that are easy to understand. He had online homework assignments due weekly, but only participation was required. He drops a test grade, and replaces a test with your lowest grade. He also awarded extra credit simply for meeting with him. Stick with it, and you'll pass.
Gives homework based on lectures but aren't too bad. You have to get at least a 25%. Has 6 tests, including a makeup test and final. If you go to his power points lectures it's very helpful for tests. Also to go over quizzes. Has 1 writing assignment. Definitely would take again.
Professor Ryan is one of the best professors that I have ever had, he made econ so interesting and easy to understand. He has a strict attendance policy so you can only miss a total of two classes before he starts taking points off of your grade, but he is a solid choice if you want to know your stuff.
Attendance Mandatory. Super organized lectures which he uploads correlating material on line. Reviews before every test with very similar questions. Extra credit opportunities. Best teacher i've ever ever had honestly. Strict on No phones or computers in class, but thats makes taking notes better with less distractions. Easy A.
Good guy with clearly outlined grading criteria. Final Exam makes up 30% of your grade. Tough class, but we were allowed a cheat sheet in the final. Study hard and you should make an A.
Most organized teacher I have ever had! Very straight forward. Took him for the summer online class. Just do the assignments and there would't be a reason to not make an A. If you slack off, there will be some grade damage. and make sure to study for the final!
This is just a basic standard online class, so if you want a straight-forward class, Prof Ryan is the one to take. Every week you have to complete a homework assignment, a discussion assignment, and a quiz for each chapter. There is a group project that can be a little frustrating trying to contact your partners online but the work is reasonable
Petty. That is the best and only word i can use to describe Mr. Ryan. Wont even let students chew gum. Not a good teacher at all. Econ was my strong suit until i took this class. Now im struggling to make a C. I didn't wear my seat belt on the way to this class hoping i would fly through my windshield before i got there. AVOID at all costs.
The class is OK, but the professor is too strict. He made students turn off their phones and leave them on their desks. Also he didn't allow conversations in class - even just short comments to other students. Not too easy but not too hard. Be sure to pick up all the points by doing the homeworks. You will need them.
Mike Ryan will drop you if you miss more than 3 days. He asks questions on the homework and tests that were not lectured on in class. He has an awful writing assignment that is impossible to do well on. It is either a pass or fail grade and he grades for grammar. He has no mercy or understanding to students. I would never ever take him again.
He is an okay professor but very hard headed. If you make a peep or even smile at the person beside because of a slight comment he will literally take his time to tell you you're interrupting class. He reported me to the dean because we were whispering (we were seated all the way in the back of class).
Great teacher. Look at the syllabus and make sure to say up with the homework or you wont pass
Professor Ryan was one of the best professors I had my first semester of college. He gives you all the information in lectures that you will need for the test and most of the times word for word. He has a writing assignment with strict criteria but if you do all the stuff required, its an easy pass. Offers homework for each unit which are easy.
To be fair Corona made it so I only had him for half a semester. Do all of your work and do it right. Lectures are extremely long and boring. Long weekly HW sets. Pass or fail paper that you need to spend time on. Tests are 25 questions- about 5 of them. Overall he's a nice guy who loves his job, not my first choice but definitely not the worst!
Professor Ryan is very passionate for economics. I knew very little on this subject going into his class and he went too fast for me to really grasp what he was teaching. The tests are hard because the answers are very similar, and the final is 50 questions in 50 minutes, INCLUDING math problems. Do all the homework, and study the lecture notes.
Taking this class was terrible with this dude. Overall he is another nerd wanting to assert control in his class. No help at all when asked for it. Read the syllabus if you have questions because it is the guys bible.
I took microeconomics from professor Ryan, and it was a great experience! His lectures were straight forward and easy to understand. His tests aren't to difficult either, just make sure you know the material.
I took this class online and he was just a jerk. Every single thing you do has to be done a certain way. I emailed him for help and he told me my email did not fit the requirements.??? The work load isn't huge but he makes things very difficult. Avoid at all costs.
Do not take this class. He expects you to read his mind and know what he wants and if you cannot deliver that then you receive a 0. It adds an unnecessary amount of stress to this class when I'm sure there is a nicer teacher that would actually explain things to you instead of referring you back to the syllabus.
SUPER easy class if you listen to lectures & take notes!! Had one writing assignment that was ONE PAGE, he even offers a second attempt but it is so easy. Anyone complaining has to be lazy, he gives chances every class to ask questions. Super nice guy.
I had a very pleasant experience with Professor Ryan. The lectures are interesting and teach you exactly what is on the test. Not to mention that the tests are all multiple choice. There is a decent amount of homework given, but its less than a lot of other classes. I 100% recommend you take Professor Ryan.
Do not take this professors class. Overly critical and anal about everything. Get ready for that final exam because you will fail it.
I was scared to take his class because of some of the feedback I saw on here. I took Prof. Ryan's microecon class and loved it. He offered zoom meetings before tests in his own free time, and was very clear with his lectures. Be respectful, and try in this class, and you will do well.
He grades super harshly for a professor teaching intro classes (and not teaching at main campus). Takes his position very seriously for low-level classes grades similar to tougher than some of the teachers I've had for upper level class. He's very rude and will give you 0's for assignments he doesn't like the way you word things, ask questions, etc
dropped this class after 15 minutes in his room. he started off by showing all the awful reviews he has on here... hes anti technology in class. I'm not sure how the class itself is because I never actually went but he doesn't seem like a fun person on first impression. good luck if you take him... i won't be there
The first day of class is a little off putting and he comes off as a little harsh however, throughout the rest of the semester he is one of the most accomodating professors I've had. He wants you to pass his class and provides you with tons of resources and chances for extra credit. He made complicated subjects super easy to understand.
Mr. Ryan gives very detailed lectures and often emphasizes his points multiple times with multiple examples to make sure you understand his teaching very clearly. My only Critique is i feel like the test reviews can be mildly misleading compared to the actual exam. But the teacher goes above and beyond to help you pass his course.
Guy comes across horribly takes his doctorate way to seriously and won't answer your email if you don't address him as Dr. Probably the worst person I've ever had as a professor not the worst as a teacher but the guy is unbearable to be around.
Can't say much but the class is passable, but he definitely makes it harder than the intro course that it is because Mike takes himself way to seriously to a fault. He's really the only "bad" professor I've had at UNG.
My biggest advice would just be to take someone else.
Dr.Ryan was a good professor but I found what best helped me pass his course was to not only attend class, but also to pay attention and take good notes. He gives chances for extra credit which is helpful and he gives students time to ask questions after class. Also I found his homework quizzes were more helpful to study with than the test reviews.
The class is passable, but the professor takes himself too seriously. He grades harshly and can be unreasonable, but using unstuck ai and the free textbook helped me prepare for his tests. Overall, a challenging but manageable course.
Good professor. But tends to have high expectations. He is very accessible and offers a lot of extra time to meet with him. But he talks really fast and sometimes it is hard to understand. Tough class. Would not take again
At first, I didn't think I'd like Dr. Ryan due to his no-phone, no-computer policy. However, I ended up loving the guy. He's super sweet and is very accessible to his students. Just study the homeworks and do the practice problems, and you'll be fine!
