Shirazi was very good about introducing the topics to be disscussed in class. He was "ok" at explaining the material.
He is an excellent professor. He explains everything so everyone can understand and if you do the homework he assigns you should have no problems. If for some reason you do, he's always willing to help you understand. If I take any more math classes they will have to be with him!
Some people can't get pass the accent, and too bad for them, because he's a funny teacher and a great teacher. He's very willing to help you in his problem. He doesn't like ppl who come into his class without the preqs, and asking questions that should have already been taught in the preq classes.
I took Shirazzi for calculus, and I found the class far more interesting that I had expected. It doesn't take long to get used to his accent, and he is very good at making difficult concepts seem simple.
He is an excellent teacher. He is nice. He explains the math so you can understand it. It is very straight forward.
I've had Shirazi for both Calc I and Calc II. The class was interesting but we went over the algebraic way of doing things more than conceptual math and theorems. If you're good with algebra and such with everything else and you NEED Calc, take it through Shirazi. Otherwise, take Calculus for the liberal arts.
I love Mr. Shirazi. He always made class interesting and fun. I would definitely take another class with him. Five-week summer session was great.
Overall great teacher, made the subject very clear (precalculus II) and moved at a moderate pace making sure the majority of students understood topics.
Mr. Shirazi makes math so easy, which is a lot for me because I am NO good at math.
Mr. Shirazi is an awesome math teacher. He's very helpful and if you don't understand something he'll keep going over it until you do. I took for both 163 and 164. He likes to joke around too. I highly recommend him.
I love this professor. He is great and the best math professor I have ever had. Take all your math classes with Mr. Shirazi. You learn Math.
I really enjoyed taking my math classes with Mr. Shirazi. He is great and fun. He makes math very interesting.
His teaching style is so systematic, your notebook will be in tip tip shape without having to think about it. He's a great teacher who knows what he's talking about. His accent always makes his jokes funnier too. Recommended
Took calc I and II with him. Hes a great professor, somewhat repetitive at times but overall a great professor. However, he doesnt cut you slack and there are few extra credit oppurtunites so do well on tests!
Shirazi is great. The material covered in 151 was a LOT of review, but he does a really good job making sure that everyone gets it, be prepared for a lot of examples. Also, he likes to use the full class time, I know in our class he spent the first 15 min every day with the same lecture (about dropping classes, keeping up with grades ect.)
Mr. Shirazi is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. He is extremely organized and makes it easy to transition between and blend concepts. As long as you attend class (which is not boring!), you will do fine. He also jokes around a bit and is sure to give breaks.
A very good professor. He explained the material clearly, was approachable and helpful, and was all around nice. I greatly enjoyed my experience in his class. If at all possible, take Professor Shirazi!
great teacher, get to use some notes on the test
Took precalc 1-2 with Shirazi. Funny, in an odd sort of way. Explains everything very clearly. Doesn't really use the book except for homework, so come to class. Finals are non-cumulative. Pretty easy class, as long as you come to class and take notes.
Very good instructor, all the material is explained clearly and he is always helpful. 80% of your grade is test (which are easy) 10% attendace and 10% homework. easy A
Pre-Cal in itself is difficult, but Prof. Shirazi explains everything in detail and makes sure you understand everything before he moves on. Attendance is graded. Part of the homework graded; however, he gives you time to finish in class and show him prior to turning it in to receive the maximum points. Also allows cheat sheet for exams.
Hard but nice
He is an excellent professor who really cares about his students success.
explains everything clear and simple, really good teacher.
Very good professor. He is the best teacher at Germanna. He lets you know his expectations at every single point. His test is easy, but you have to study hard. He collects homework sometimes for grade but makes sure you get your maximum points. Homework is mostly done in class and attendance is very important
one of the best, easily recommendable for math
One of the best teachers at Germanna. I learned so much in this course and he is very helpful.
I had him for 163 and 164. He is a great teacher and very helpful. He keeps the class interested as best as he can for teaching math. I highly recommend him.
Best teacher at Germanna. I had him for 164 and 173 and I wish I could take him for 174. Explains everything clearly. Willing to spend a whole class just answering questions to be sure that everyone understands. No surprises on the tests, very fair grader. All in all, great class.
The best math teacher I have ever had. He is very helpful and clear. He makes the subject interesting. Attendance is very important in his class. Great teacher. I wish all teachers be like him.
Amazing professor! Best math teacher I've ever had!
Best math teacher i've ever had! He assigns a good amount of homework every class but it's not graded. Only 5 times will he grade homework; when he does it's only 1 or 2 problems and he's very clear on which problem is for a grade. I never did any of the homework that wasn't graded and got an A on every test. His lectures are that good!
This is the most professional, best math professor I have ever had. Explains everything very well. Never considers student's questions as "stupid" questions.
BEST teacher ever, I came into pre-calculus after about 6 years out of high school and no math classes in between. I am having no problems whatsoever in his class. He explains everything crystal clear and is extremely repetitive, the only way to not understand his class is to be absent altogether. Somewhat of a neat freak.
Here at Germanna Community College Mr. Shirazi is the best math professor that I have ever had. His lectures are very clear and I learned a lot. I recommend him to all my friends. Germanna is lucky to have him. I wished I had him in my earlier math classes. Take him if you want to learn.
He is an excellent professor, and he is very thorough. He is very knowledgeable in Math, and never leaves a questions unanswered. I highly recommend him.
MR.SHIRAZI IS THE MAN!!!!! prior to him i took math 164 and failed so I was scard to retake the class. But with Mr. Shirazi, i had faith after I passed the first test. He keeps it so simple!!! doesnt cram and rush. He answers all questions no matter what!Im so happy im passing!!!!
Professor Shirazi is an amazing math professor!! He is always crystal clear about his assignments/homework and you always feel very prepared for his exams. Attendance is mandatory if you want to pass but as long as you show up, take notes, and complete his example problems, you are pretty much guaranteed to pass :)
Mr. Shirazi is really the greatest Professor at Germanna. He explains everything clear and makes you understand math like you never did before. The way he teaches he even changes math haters to math lovers. Recommend any student to take his class. Mr. Shirazi is the Best!!!
So funny when explaining how math works! Professor Shirazi was extremely helpful and brought me to enjoy math a little more.
He is sooooooooooooooooooooo awesome. i can't believe it the course is nearly end.:(math is like dream when u take it with him!he so helpful and explain very good!
Mr. Shirazi is literally the best math professor you will ever have. He is so funny, helpful, and friendly. The material may be challenging but he will help you understand. I wish I could keep taking his classes.
Best teacher I've ever had! He explains everything so well and you only need a book for homework, as long as you take good notes.
He is probably one of the best teachers you will ever have at Germanna. He does notes, goes through homework, and the final exam is just one of the chapters. SO easy to pass his class. Highly recommended him for math!!
Professor Shirazi, does an incredible job teaching his students! He is clear, concise and makes sure you have every tool you need to learn and succeed in his class.
Great professor I highly recommend him to any one. For those who are struggling in math take his class and you will pass with an easy A as long as you follow his instructions.
Probably the best professor I've ever had in my life.
He was an awesome teacher! Super helpful and because of his accent the teaching part was a lot more fun to listen to and kept me interested and focused. He explains everything really well and is always ready to answer questions. Really wished i could have him this semester as well:(
Good Lordy! Prof. Shirazi is awesome! He is just so smart and super helpful. He also has hilarious stories and sneaks little funny analogies into his lectures, that will stick with you for the rest of your life. He is awesome. Only word awesome!
Professor Shirazi is literally an in real life "Math for Dummies" teacher. He is extremely clear, answers your questions if you're lost and takes his time so you understand every step. He actually cares about the success of his students and makes sure you understand the material before class moves on. Polite and humorous. Best professor I've had
You will need to be ready to learn & participate in class. He knows everyones name by the third class & he will randomly call on people to answer problems on the board! Pay attention! No cheat sheet for test. 8 - 10 problems given on board at each class & you have 5 mins to do them & then he will call on random individuals to give solution.
Professor Shirazi is one of the best math professors I've had in a long time. He will make sure everyone gets with the program, but do not slack otherwise you'll be lost, don't miss his class, and take lots of notes as possible.
Mr. Shirazi is an awesome math teacher. He explains things really well, and he has a great sense of humor. I really enjoyed his class in MTH 166 and MTH 173.
I had quite a few people recommend Shirazi to me after I told them I was failing math and would have to re-take the course. He is hands down THE BEST math teacher I have ever had. He makes sure the whole class understands the lesson and encourages people to ask questions. He does a ton of example problems too so you know how to the math problems.
This professor is one of the best math teachers I've ever had, I strongly recommend.
One of the best prof. I have had at germanna very easy to work with class was very easy to understand
One of the best teachers at Germanna. Explained things in a very easy way and was always willing to help students. Very high recommendation and excellent teaching skills!
Very clear, spells out everything on the board. As long as you pay attention in class you will do great on the test Occasionally assigns homework problems for a grade but gives ample time to finish and he checks your answers and lets you try again. The homework he assigns is optional, but definitely suggested if you want to do well. Test are easy.
He explains everything very well and is a great teacher.
This has been my third time taking Math 163 I have an A. I love that we do not rely on "MyMathLab" for homework and we get to use a calculator. He explains everything step by step. He doesn't over work you with 50 question test or HW. He gives HW that is usually optional. I wish he taught the next MTH classes I need I would take his course then.
mike shirazi is the best professor ever. becaus he is my dad. im his son. so the hot ladies come to me.
I am normally terrible at math, but he is absolutely fantastic at breaking each problem down so I can understand it. I only wish he was teaching the next math class I have to take. You don't need the text book too often, only for the occasional homework assignment. He's fine with sharing the book with another student, but be ready to take notes.
I've taken mike for two semesters. He is a good teacher and I would recommend him to anyone.
Math genius. I am taking him for the next 2 semesters. If you hated your past math teachers, take this guy; he will restore your faith in your math abilities.
He teaches everything you need to know in class, assigns homework, and answers questions at the beginning of the next class. He makes sure you know what kind of problems will be on the test and prepares you for it. He is focused on teaching but also has a good sense of humor. Attendance is important with these classes.
He is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is amazingly clear, willing to answer any questions, and really takes a crawl, walk, run approach to calculus. I'm pretty sure he could teach a rock math and I can't say enough great things about him. Go to class, take notes and actively participate, you won't regret it. Textbook used for homework.
BEWARE of having this professor. If you're going into the S.T.E.M. field I would advise not taking this professor. Although he may be easy (too easy). He will not set you up for success. He skipped a lot of material and it was obvious when i took Calc 2. I took him in Fall 2014, so things may have changed. I would suggest taking a Diff prof
Do not take this professor. Mr. Shirazi is a great guy, but he skips so many chapters that when you go on to a higher level math, you will know nothing. I got an A in his pre-calc class, and now I'm in calc with Robin Ford, and I didn't even know anything in the review lecture because Shirazi skipped all of the material. Do not take his clas
He's very thorough with his lectures and does a lot of in class examples and is always checking w/ his students for understanding. Your grade is almost completely determined by your attendance & test scores (I think I had 4 graded homework assignments this semester) so def show up. Although his lectures are tedious & long, I passed with an easy A.
If you are going to take any class after Calc I don't take Mr. Shirazi. He did not go over the topics that are essential to passing calc II. If this is your last math class, take it for the easy A but be prepared if you need high math when you transfer.
He was a phenomenal professor. He only focuses on the material that you need to know for the next courses and that you'll actually use in your profession. He thinks you should do the easiest and fastest route possible for an equation so that's what he teaches. He makes it a priority that you know how to do the work and is very easy to understand.
ENGINEERING STUDENTS BEWARE: Avoid him at all costs, he avoids topics such as trig, and e functions that are vital to success in Calc 2 and beyond.I thought he was a great teacher and was improving my math skills, instead he taught only easy topics giving me false confidence IF YOU ARE GOING HIGHER THAN CALC 1 , AVOID. Otherwise, he is an easy A
Mr. Shirazi is good to take only if it is the last math class you have to take. He is not very good at explaining the methods used to solve problems and only teaches the bare minimum. He also skips many topics so that when you get to calculus 2 you then have no idea what is going on. I myself had to retake calculus 1 this semester.
He is a good teacher, he knows the material but the way he teaches it is extremely boring and is sometimes painful to sit through. I had him for math151 which is the lowest you can take. His expectations are very low and even when the subject is easy(learing to write numbers with tally marks) he teaches it like its rocket science. Easiest A ever.
Mr. Shirazi was by far the best teacher I had at Germanna. He was funny, explained things thoroughly and was generous in his grading. He grades all of the tests WHILE the students are still there, so you don't have to stress about what grade you got.
Loved him! He cares about his students and their futures. He goes over everything you would need to know for the tests and lets you have cheat sheets! Totally and completely recommend him.
He loves his students and to make jokes. He goes over everything you need and will help you as much as you ask. He is easy and most homework is not mandatory. Tests aren't long and he will allow you to right down up to 6 formulas or properties for tests.
Great teacher. Would go to his office after class if I had trouble understanding and he really helped me understand everything. I took Mr. Shirazi for two semesters and his class was my absolute favorite each semester. I would definitely recommend Mr. Shirazi to anyone! Test were easy and the homework was optional.
MrShirazi is very kind and is an easy A. I would HIGHLY recommend him. Gives extra credit. Only four tests which literally only have 10 to 12 questions.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had. He truly helped me understand my worst subject. Lectures were really easy to understand, homework was on occasions, and textbook was rarely used as well. He always answered questions and tests were quite straight forward with the material he taught. I'd definitely take one of his classes again.
Professor Shirazis class is an easy A as long as you do the work and make sure you always get the notes somehow since they help so much with the tests.
Absolutely amazing teacher. He made calculus easy to understand, gave detailed lectures, many many examples for practice, and offered an extra credit assignment that was very helpful. I took him for precalc and calc and would take him again if he taught more classes.
He is a great guy but is not good at teaching. He drags out problems father than need be. I would not recommend to fast paced learners or people that lose attention fast. As long as you show up for class and take good notes, its an easy A.
One of the better Calc professors that I have had. Very thorough teaching of the material. Uses the book for homework. Very flexible and easy to get a hold of.
Really nice teacher, who does everything he can to help you understand the subject. If you're a lil more on the mathematically challenged side when it comes to calc (like me!); then ask for another explanation or get a tutor. Or do extra problems on your own if you get the material but redoing the review problems doesn't help out.
I've had Prof. Shirazi for two semesters now and I would take classes with him again. Great at explaining at any level. Clearly writes down everything on the board to take notes. If you attend regularly and do the work he assigns you'll get an easy A. Very straight forward. The only downside are his corny jokes. Which everyone secretly likes.
I took this course over the summer during COVID-19. The course was very easy to follow. He would upload instructional videos for the notes (usually 4-5 per test), then he would give optional hw that wasn't graded, and then 1 graded hw ( 1 question) per test. Had a total of 4 tests including the final. Each test was 10 questions.
Professor Shirazi is very old school, but he knows his stuff. He taught calculus in a clear way that I was able to understand. He gave a couple of homework problems every class from the textbook or ones that he came up with. If you show up to class and do the homework, then the quizzes and tests will be easy. He grades tests on the spot too.
Professor Shirazi is awesome! Minimal busy work and straightforward lectures that are easy to understand. Highly recommend!
Professor Shirazi was the best math teacher I've ever had! Math is my worst subject and I usually would fail math, but with his class I received a 94%. As long as you take the notes the class is really easy to pass.
Absolutely phenomenal professor. He knows the material like the back of his hand, and explains all of the concepts in a very concise and knowledgeable way.
My class with Shirazi was pre-recorded and there were no zoom classes. The only interaction was email. He had notes on paper that he would just read while recording, then post on Canvas. I asked for his notes, but he said I didn't need them if I watched the lectures; I wanted them for a quick review. Sometimes I had to YouTube problems. Average.
WOW! what an awesome professor . Although the semester is not over I am still holding an A in the class and feel super confident. Easy homework assignments and not much work for the work/parent lifestyle. I highly recommend anyone to this class and hoping to be in another one of his classes.
Literally ended up with a perfect A+. The course is really easy. The videos are super easy to understand. Responds to emails quickly. Tests have no time limit. There is homework, but it is literally one question per week lol.
The lecture videos were easy to understand, but he had little to no homework actually due, most was optional and did not affect your grade. He had only four tests that were worth 400 out of 500 points of your grade but each test is 10 questions, multiple choice, no partial credit. I'm a good student and I dropped this class to save my grade.
He gives 100 point tests that only have 10 questions. The questions are all multiple choice so there is no partial credit. Almost every test has at least one question where it is typed wrong, or all the answers are wrong. Quizzes are 1 multiple choice question worth 10 points. Only uses videos, and not helpful. Tells you to rewatch videos to get it
Pro: Very little work to do in this class online with about 10-12 assignments that are graded. Cons: It was annoying to have an attendance score in a class listed as asynchronous online, but not unusual. He consistently failed to give feedback, responded to one email the entire semester, and was generally unhelpful His lectures= hand-written notes.
Easy class. He is a good professor. Wish he could do more exercises on the board. I never bought the textbook, and it was fine.
Easiest math class ever. It is essentially graded by 4 tests and a few homework, all of which have 10 fairly easy questions, and the test time is unlimited (lol). You are going to essentially be self-teaching via the textbook he uses, and his lectures are short and lack detail. I used Professor Leanord's online lessons to supplement this course.
Professor Shirazi is amazing. There were not many graded assignments in this class but the material is fairly easy to pick up, especially since Professor Shirazi is great at explaining each step. He is also very happy to answer any questions and is excited to help. Limited amount of graded tests and homework but they are all crucial to get an A!
Easiest math class I've ever taken. Grades include 5 graded homeworks (One question each) and 5 tests (10 questions each) all with unlimited time. Prof Shirazi teaches in a way that is easy to follow and understand and is always there to answer any questions. Take him if you have the chance!
By far the easiest math course I've ever taken. There are 5 hw assignments and 5 exams spaced weeks apart the whole semester and that's it lol. No respondus lockdown and unlimited time on tests. Prof. Shirazi's lectures are very brief but get to the point and explain things well. Take this class if you want to save time and get an easy A.
The class is fairly easy as long as you attend the lectures or keep up with the online lectures. One thing to note is that the homework assignments and tests don't contain that many questions, so your grade can drop pretty fast if you don't know what you're doing.
What an amazing class and semester. Prof. Shirazi is a joy to work with. Lectures are fast and to the point. Homework and test are all take home and if you are stuck on something just ask for help he will go well outside of his way to help you. If you show up listen and ask for help when you need it this will be an easy A.
I've had Professor Shirazi for both Calc 263 and 264, his lectures make for great reference material (it's recommended to also write your own notes and follow along and do the supplementary homework). He doesn't have a lot of assignments, nor are they complicated (multiple choice), but they are majority of the grade so study and practice.
Overall, I enjoyed Mr. Shirazi's class. His lectures were very easy to comprehend and he worked at a pace that was easy. I've struggled with math my entire life but this is the first course I've ever landed an A on. Would definitely recommend him.
Class is hard for those that are bad at math. Attendance Is a grade, 45 points, 5 points a day missed. Few things to be graded on so don't fail. Tells people that are failing to drop the class. Very petty, If you leave for a second to use the bathroom, he will call on you to answer the question, even if you did not have time to answer.
To describe him I would say he is moderately fast and if you don't understand the material easy it can be a difficult class for you. I recommend trying not to miss a day. He doesn't give much homework, only recommends you work on what you don't feel comfortable with. Most everyone likes his style of teaching. He is very example-based.
Professor Shirazi's MATH161 class is a breeze. His lectures are clear and easy to follow. With minimal graded work, the class is manageable even for those struggling with math. unstuck study's practice tools also helped me ace this course.
Super easy professor with easy homework, but if you miss a questions it can really hurt your grade. Homework is just 1 MCQ and tests and the final are just 10 MCQ. He does this thing where he goes this many people got an A and this many got a B and "only one person got a C". That part is really annoying and can get to you but other than he's ok.
