Best class I have had in economics (I am still taking it). You need to go to class because there is no textbook, but class is actually interesting and makes you think.
Extremely energetic and interesting. Excellent professor. Quizzes are easy if you go to class.
Best prof in economics hands down.
Who knew econ could be fun? Not me!
Great teacher. Made going to class enjoyable every day. Relates all topics to issues students find interesting.
Best class ive taken in econ, maybe best class at UConn.
Best professor at UCONN, makes class so interesting. If you attend and play the games (yes games) on husky ct then you will get an A! Very fair professor, and office hours extremely helpful.
Bet professor in economics. Lectures are really fun and he has lots of energy. Be sure to take game theory with him (another professor also teaches game theory)
Dr. Shor is the nost engaging professor in economics and his classes are always interesting and fun. The quizzes and exams are not too hard if you come to class and pay attention. This is probably the best course in economics that I have taken.
If you can get past the sarcastic sense of humor (I loved it, some didn't get it), this is a fantastic class. Best one in econ by far.
I have him for Game Theory & he's a really great professor. You have to study well for the quizzestests but he gives you all the material that you need to study which he will use it, even the readings. He explains stuff very well and he knows how to keep the students interested in the class. Won't adjust grades but there is EC and you will learn.
Very fun class, and the professor cares if you learn. Quizzes are easy if you go to class he tells you what's on them. Exams are harder but you know what to expect. There is no textbook so you have to go to class.
Best prof! Energetic and fun. You learna lot without even realizing it. You do hve to study for exams tho as they are not easy. Quizzes are easy and there's a bunch of extra credit. Prof seems like a nice guy, too. Take this class!!
Awesome professor. There is no textbook for this class so it will be hard to pass this class without showing up. His tests are straight from the material he talks about in class. Lots of extra credit, quizzes are simple.
Very helpful outside of class. Explains things differently if you don't get it the way he taught it in class. Really interesting class Professor really cares.
Amazing class! While other professors drone on while I fall asleep, Prof. Shor shows up to every class with unbelievable energy and passion. He clearly knows his stuff but also really cares about the material and making sure that everyone understands. The class doesn's seem very hard, but there is a lot of material, its just easy to want to learn.
Professor Shor is one of the best I have had a UConn! His lectures are entertaining and full of information. The class content is explained well and in an engaging way. The class content is not difficult and actually kind of fun. Take this class!
His final was tough! But it helped me realize just how much I learned. Professor Shor was very helpful during office hours and the lectures were fun and very clear. Professor Shor cares that you learn the ideas and not just the math. Excellent class.
Awesome professor! Uses great examples to illustrate content and makes lectures extremely interesting. He actually made me want to go to class.
This was so very different from ervy other econ class I've had at UConn. In stead of memorizing theory, Prof. Shor is more interested in having us think and undertand the ideas, with great examples and intuition. It almost doesn't feel like learning because he makes it so easy and intuitive, but you will learn a lot. If you can get in, take it!
He's a very engaging professor. Lectures notes are online, but you have to go to class to understand the intuition and examples for the final. He gives a lot of chances to do well in the class, as long as you show effort on some part of the class. Office hours are very helpful, though if you skip class, he won't explain the material again.
Best Teacher I have had at UCONN by far. He is great at breaking down relatively complex subjects, and teaches concepts more than he worries about the mathematical side of Game Theory. If you are an Economics major, you would be foolish to miss the opportunity to take his class.
Mike Shor is the best professor in the economics department and maybe the best professor at UConn. It took me two years to get into this class but it was worth it. THe only class where I was sad when I had to miss class.
I spent a good deal of winter break explaining everything I learned in this class to my family so I guess that I learned a lot. Prof Shor is funny, sarcastic, engaging, caring, and very interesting. Best class I've had. The final exam was tougher than I thought it would be, mostly because it tested for a deep understanding of the concepts. Take it.
Some of my friends are taking 3208 with a different professor right now, so this just a warning that Professor Shor is not the only one who teaches game theory, but you should take it with him because he is the best professor I've had in economics.
Okay I have waited 3 years to get into game theory and it is worth the hype. Prof Shor is a great teacher and makes the material so easy to underatand (until you get to the final and... oops). He really cares about game theory and the students. THE best class I've had at UConn!
Game Theory def lives up to all the hype-- I am a senior but Professor Shor is the best teacher I've had in econ. He is an amazing lecturer that makes you actually want to go to class and the class is set up fairly. If you go to class, the material is very easy to learn and so interesting. 100% a valuable class for econ ; we stan Mike Shor !!
Professor Shor is the most enthusiastic prof I've ever had. Each class went by so fast and Prof Shor made learning really easy with great examples and intuition. I loved this class and wish Prof Shor taught other courses that I could take. Quiz and exam questions come from class lectures, so attendance is important if you want to do well.
This is the only econ class that I actually wanted to go to each lecture. The content is interesting and useful though that's probably because of the professor who could probably even teach advanced calculus and make it fun. Thanks Professor Shor!
In the middle of Covid, Prof Shor is the only prof I have who not only asks how we're doing, but really cares. He is so flexible and makes sure that his course is for learning and not for adding to the stress we're all under. He's also really available to talk about anything outside of class. One of the nicest professors at UConn.
Professor Shor is hands down the best econ professor. He really cares about his students and since given the whole pandemic, wants us to learn. Class is truly interesting and engaging. He told us not to worry about our grades too much. Opportunity for extra credit. Take this class with him!
If every prof was as caring, understanding, and flexible as Prof Shor then school during the pandemic wouldn't be so bad. He made sure we learned without stressing about grades, busy work, or deadlines, which made this my favorite class and one I learned more in than any tother . Best prof in econ.
Good Professor but the material is kinda hard, thats ab it, hes kinda funny tho
This wasn't an easy class for me as so much of it was not intuitive but the prof is so invested in having us learn and he's willing to work with you and help explain everything. Really interesting material so I wish I understood it better.
hard material. the weird question in the final exam. all the questions in the quiz and midterm exam need you to calculate the range or best strategy but in the final exam, you need to explain everything!!! do you take this course if you want your GPA!!!
Professor Shor is the best prof at UConn. He is ALWAYS willing to help, tells you EXACTLY what will be on each quiz or exam, and gives plenty of chances to make up for a bad grade with extra credit. Ignore the ones complaining about the class being hard--they're the ones that must not have done a thing all semester. Go to class and you'll do great.
There are several sections of game theory but Im glad I waited until I could take it with professor shor. The most interesting class Ive taken and I learned so much that can be applied to everything. Professor Shor sometimes makes the material seem too easy with his lectures so you have to review to make sure you really get it. Take game theory!!
great prof and interesting topic. but if you are an international student you should not take professor mike's class because sometimes you can not get his point
Amazing prof and class! You have to go to lectures to do well but honestly why wouldn't you??
Fabulous professor. Lectures are amazingly clear. Would love to take his class again. Mike rocks!
He is an amazing professor and knows how to keep his lectures engaging. You need to go to class to understand the material and be able to pass the exams as the content is fairly "hands-on". Gives plenty of options for extra credit and is also available outside of class to clarify any concepts. If you go to class the exams don't need much studying
Professor Shor was the best econ prof I had at UConn and was a great class for my last semester. The topic is so interesting and prof Shor makes it both easy to understand and fun. Class is a must because the slides don't have all of the info or intuition. He even gave us the answer to a quiz extra credit question for being in class.
My favorite economics professor, I honestly think economics is so boring but he makes his lectures so interesting and fun. Theres a game every week, make sure you do them they're easy and graded by completion only. other than that there's no homework! only quizzes and exams :) sign up for his class as soon as you can, people sign up really quick!
Good professor and explains stuff clearly, lectures were entertaining and easy to sit through. Show up to class because his whiteboard notes are necessary to do well. Take him if you can.
This was a fun class to take my last semester. It was a late class (to 6 pm) so energy in the class was low and very few were willing to participate but Professor Shor was very energetic. The class is not very difficult if you go to class as a lot of the intuition is not on the slides and he basically gives you answers to the quiz in class.
Professor Shor is my favorite professor and class in my four years here. His lectures are clear and easy to follow and he's so helpful and understanding outside of class. Attendance isn't "mandatory" but since he gives a lot of quiz and test answers in class, it really is if you want to do well. He also drops lowest grades.
Game theory with Prof Shor is the best class I have taken at Uconn. His lectures are extremely engaging and he presents information so clearly. I cannot reccomend this class enough, and thank you to Mike for being such a passionate teacher. The Michael Jordan of professors in Storrs.
One of the best professors I have had. There are bi weekly quizzes based on the topics learned in class but they are super easy if you look over the material before and attend the lectures. Overall such an amazing and nice professor.
goated professor, clear and engaging lectures. my favorite professor in all my time at uconn. highly recommend
I finally got in to game theory with and it lives up to the hype. If you can get in, take it, but go to lectures. Wy wouldn't you anyway as the lectures are great. Quizzes and exams are very straight forward if you go to class. He is very helpful if you go to office hours. I heard he failed students for cheating and I wish more profs did that.
downright my favorite econ professor. lectures are engaging, clearly outlines how to do well in class, tells you what's on biweekly quizzes if you go to class. very accessible. will fail you for cheating so I wouldn't recommend.
Avoid if you can
Do not take this class if you value your GPA.
Unclear grading criteria, lying in the syllabus, hard exams, hard grader, acts nice in class but grades you bad behind your back, gives no feedback for students to improve, doesn't care about students grades.
I found the grading in this class unclear and frustrating, especially at the end of the semester. Many components like participation and replacements were not transparently reflected, and communication about final grades felt limited. While the material is interesting, the grading structure made it stressful.
This class was a little different than my other Econ courses but I enjoyed it, he was great at making lectures not feel boring.
Don't do it
Take something else if possible.
Would never take it again
Mike Shor is knowledgeable in game theory, but the class felt overly exam-heavy with little transparency about how participation and other components were ultimately graded, which made the final outcome stressful and unclear.
The material itself is interesting, but grading felt rigid and unclear, especially at the end of the semester when important components were not visible in HuskyCT and final grades were delayed.
Mike Shor is a very knowledgeable professor who clearly understands game theory at a deep level. His lectures are intellectually engaging and challenge you to think strategically rather than memorize formulas. He is fair, consistent with his standards, and takes the course seriously, which makes it demanding but also rewarding.
Mike Shor is a very knowledgeable professor who clearly understands game theory at a deep level. His lectures are intellectually engaging and challenge you to think strategically rather than memorize formulas. He is fair, consistent with his standards, and takes the course seriously.
From my perspective, the syllabus suggested more transparency and adjustment than actually occurred, making it hard to understand how final grades were determined.
Clear lecturer who knows game theory very well, but grading felt harsher than expected and not fully transparent. Exams were difficult relative to practice material, so be sure to stay on top of everything.

Biweekly quizzes, class is too stressful overall.
Great professor, he genuinely knows his material and teaches it well. Clear instructions on what will be on quizzes and exams.

Lectures are engaging and often include interesting real-world examples.
Clearly passionate about the subject and brings energy to class.
Great professor for students who enjoy thinking strategically and analytically.

Definitely one of my favorite professors at UConn; the lectures are interesting and intellectually stimulating.
A favorite of mine because the class actually makes you think and engage with the material on a deeper level.
Honestly one of my favorite professors at UConn — the class was definitely challenging, but it was the kind of challenge that actually made me smarter and more confident in the material.
Probably my favorite professor I've had so far because his lectures really make you think and understand what's going on instead of just memorizing answers.
Great Professor Overall
Great professor overall, can't really judge especially knowing that he's been a professor here for over a decade, so he clearly knows what he's doing, even tho he is harsh at grading.
