A fun prof who knows his stuff. He cares about his students and gives good examples and has really good study guides that are helpful. His sense of humor is A+

One of the better classes I've taken here. Tatum definately knows his stuff and makes it all interesting. I liked the fact he made himself available before and after classes if i needed extra help. Like the other person said, Tatum really cares for his students. I give him an A.

Dr. Tatum is very clear in the way he teaches, he respects those that respect him, don't txt in his class, take home tests are huge but if you follow his exact format you will get an A without any questions. I learned and retained more from him than any other teacher.

I graduate next week and the three classes I took from Dr. Tatum were the ones that I value the most. I have never had a professor who was so willing to help me, even to the point of emails and phone calls to encourage me when I was getting behind. I have never had a teacher who has cared so much about me and my future. His classes are the best.

This class is loaded with lots of helpful and interesting career information. It especially helped prepare me for Dr. Harris's classes which are really demanding. Tatum cares and wants his students to do well. His test reviews are helpful. If he writes it on the board it will be on the test. No toleration for immature behavior.

He knows the material because he has been there and done it all, so is able to link the material to real life and make it all relevant. He makes himself available to his students and you know he really cares about you. So far my favorite CJ teacher. I just wish he taught more of the upper level classes.

I had Dr Tatum for Intro to CJ and I liked it so much that i changed my major. This Investigations class was over the top great and I am so hyped for having a job in the cj area. So far my best classes at DSU and my best teacher.

Of all my teachers he is the one who has cared and taught me the most.

I went to Weber State for a semester and hated it. I almost gave up but Tatum inspired me to be my best and after taking this class I know what I want to do and that is work in the CJ system. He really knows his stuff and cares about his students. For sure, he inspired me! Thanks to him I believe I have a future in the law.

I loved this class. Tatum knows the material and kept me always interested. I liked the class so much that I would almost take it again just for fun. He is good about giving good examples of how things apply in the field to become a good cop and investigator. He is also kind of funny. Like some of the other posts says, he really cares.

Being from Las Vegas and being Black I expected the worst. But man was I suprizeded. This white really showed thaqt he cared and helped me to get my act together. I wouldve had an A but slacked at the start, but still ended up with a good B because Tatum kept on my case and made sure that I got the material down for the tests. My best teacher.

Took this class at the same time I took Investigations. Both classes were the best I have taken and I changed my major to criminal justice. The main thing is that Tatem really cares about his students. Miss a class and you get an email to let you know you were missed and he works with you so you don't fall behind. I would recommend students to have a Professor Tatum as their CJ 1340 class who are attending Dixie State University. He's a humble, respectful, and amazing instructor. He may have a lot of assignments and tests to do, but its good because I have actually learned many things about criminal investigation from him. He's fair and loves his students.

He helps you a lot. If you do the work and be at class, he will notice. Great professor who will help you with anything even from outside class material.

I was an accounting major, but my roommate talked me into taking Tatum's class and now I'm changing my major to CJ. Accounting was boring, but now I'm excited about a career in criminal justice. Super interesting class. This was my third class from him and hope to take more. His experiences add to the class. He is very fair and understanding, but doesn't tolerate chit-chat or cell phones. Professor Tatum is one of the best instructors I have every had. He truly cares about each person in class and will make an effort to have you succeed in his class. If you put the effort to study for his test you will do well. He gives good notes for the tests.

Prof. Tatum is awesome! He taught the information very thoroughly, and went over concepts multiple times, which prepared us well for each test. You do need to take good notes in class to study before each test, but we hardly used the textbook. Only had two big assignments. He is very personable and makes the course enjoyable. He cares :)

What a wonderful teacher. This is a class that if you pay attention you will love no no other. Dr. Tatum is the very best at Dixie. He cares and is there for the student. He also brings a lot of life experience to the class. Very interesting. I recommend this class even for non-justice majors.

Awesome Professor!! he is literally there for you! he's an awesome professor and really is inspirational. he also loves to tell stories about his past job experiences which makes it exciting to learn. Expect a book report but is nothing bad if you follow his instructions.

I graduated this year and Mike was there for me to write letters fro grad school. I even called his cell phone one night for some advise and to ask for a letter. It isn't just hype. He cares for his students, even after they are gone. All Criminal Justice students should take his classes.

Mr. Tatum helped me decide what I want to be. Now I know what I wan to do and what i need to do in order to help my people and give them justice. Most of my teachers don't relate to what's it like on the res. Mr. Tatum relates and inspired me to keep in school and go after me dreams. He is a teacher with heart.

Pretty intense class with really great material and topics. Tatrm inspired me to chose Cj as a major instead of business and psych. In my student life he has been the only teacher who really cares.

My best class. Prof Tate expects maturity. No cellphones or texting. No chit-chat as he calls it. Expects participation on topics. Works with students to do there best. Miss a class or do a bad test and he contacts you by phone and email. Wants students to be successful and responsible. Cares about all his students.

I was a psych major until I took this class. A great class and teacher. At the start of the semester I was failing, but between emails and phone calls this guy was on my case to be responsible and come to class. At midterm I was at a D grade and now with finals coming up I will be in the B range, thanks to Dr TatUm who inspired me to do better.

He creates study guides for each exam and spends around a week reviewing each exam before you take it. He had us do a book report and service hours to help boost our grade, which was nice. Exams are multiple chose, True/False, short-answer. He says attendance is mandatory and he cares that you are there, but wont notice, but I recommend going.

Professor Tatum is a great guy and he does care a lot about his student, his class is really more discussion based than an actual lecture which I quite enjoyed. Be prepared to have long conversations and hear lots of personal stories about his past career. As long as you show you care about the class you shouldn't have a problem.

Mike is hands down my favorite professor. I wasnt doing to good in the class because of family situations and he sat me down asked what was going on and how he could help. Mike goes OUT OF HIS WAY to help his students. One of the best men ive met. I would encourage people to take his class even if they dont need the credits.

He will email or call you to see why you miss class, he does so to keep you updated. He really cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed in life and in all our classes. He has very interesting personal stories to go with the lesson this keeps the class interesting. I'm taking him again for another class next semester. High recommend.

I took Intro and Investigations back to back. The two classes complimented each other and it was great to see how all of the system fits together. Also, he really cares! He belives in his students and wants them to do their best.

I really loved this class. Dr. Tatum taught us how to be the best police detectives ever. His first hand knowldege really made the class come alive and make it interesting. The stuff he taught us put the stuff in the book to shame. Don't miss this class if you are looking to go into police work.

Mr. Profressor Tatum is best. Being from Mexico my english is not so good, but he was willingto meet with my in the mornings to help be before class. He was great help to me. He has heart and cares much for his students.

My senor year begins in the fall. Dr. Tatum's class has been the basis for my success in other classes. Very comprehensive for getting the necessary preparation for a career in criminal justice. My area is in Digital Forensics, but Dr. Tatum's class helped to point me in the right direction and show me how everything fits. He cares.

A really great class. Tons of information to help us become really good and successful investigators. He has you do and find a lot of stuff on the internet for a personalized notebook for later on in our lives. His experience makes the class come alive and he cares about his students. Coming to class and communicating with him is important.

Such an easy class, if you go, you'll most likely pass. The day before the test, he goes over it with you question by question and gives you all of the answers. Not much homework, and the information is pretty easy as well. Would definitely recommend if you want an easy A.

It is Thanksgiving. I started at DSU five years ago. Mr. Tatum has been my favorite teacher and his classes are amazing. he helped me through my degree and now I'm in grad school. Thanks to him. He is one of the people who have made a difference in my life. Thanks Dr Tatum!

I have had Dr. Tatum for 2 class, he is very knowledgeable and tells great stories. You can tell that he is passionate about the subject that he teaches and that makes the class so much better. He will be a professor that I will remember for a very long time.

This guy really cares about all of his students. Get sick or miss a class and he is contacting you to see what wrong. He wants his students to succeed and will help as much as possible for that to happen. He is always there and even gives out hos private cell number for questions and emergencies out of class. Prof. Tatum is the BEST! He is so fun and interesting, made it feel like it wasn't even a college class. Although attendance isn't mandatory, you should show up because he has great lectures and tests you on things he covers in class. Also he doesn't use canvas.. so his lectures are not available online. So if you miss, you better borrow notes:)

Dr Tatum has made this semester worthwhile. He made me think. With tuff issues he got me to see both sides and really think. He is big on civility and respect and wants us to find our own opinions based on fact and then look for common ground instead of differencs. I have learned more about life than any other classes. Dr. Tatum is unlike any professor I've ever had. He wants every student to succeed & is passionate about the CJ field. His lectures are informative & funny. If you take notes of what he says/draws on the board, know everything on the study guide, you'll do fine. DON'T put off the HUGE book report due at end of the semester; worth 1 test in points.

This class prepared me for the academy and for going to work as a police officer. The note book assignment was a good learning tool that I am sure will help me in the future. Lectures but doesn't feel like a formal lecture and is enjoyable. If you go to class and take good notes you will do well. Before each test he hands out a study guide and if you study it, you will do really well on the tests. Genuinely cares about his students and will help them to succeed as much as he can. Dr. Tatum is a great professor. He really cares about his students. There are four exams which were open book, as well as a couple of assignments. Do not procrastinate the huge book report due at the end of the semester. All in all a great professor!

This teacher is one of the most caring professors I have ever met. He always says that his goal is the students success, and he shows that with how he treats the students as individuals. I honestly loved this class and it was super fun! He did tend to ramble sometimes and that could be annoying but overall it was a really good class

I just started my first job as an officer. His insights and advice have so far been Gold! if you aren't opened minded and are politically correct don't take this class. He cuts through all of the liberal BS and tells it like it is. Mo candy coating. If you come to class, take notes, listen. and follow the study guides you will do well and learn

My favorite professor in four years at DSU. He prepared me for life. His classes about the law and the system didn't go along with CNN and he wasn't politically correct. No textbook descriptions. He told us how it is from true experiences. Come to class and learn, Have an open mind. Not a professor fresh out of grad school with no experience.

Great class and teacher. Use the Study Guides and come to class, especially for the exam reviews and you will do great. Attendance is important to not miss anything. Not at class for persons who are Woke and just get their news from CNN and the late night shows and not for the politically correct. He cares his students. Class is worth it.

An eye opening class that goes against the popular grain. Class based on conservative Constitutional ways of thinking. Very pro law and order. Good prep for working in the justice system. I have been a police officer for about a year. This is the one class that prepared me for the job. I wish that more of the cj classes were as good as Tatem's classes. The investigative notebook has been very helpful to me already in some of my investigations. Hint: don't miss class and take good notes. His study guides are very helpful.

I just finished my first semester in my MA program here in Louisiana. Tatums class more than prepared me for the rigors of a MA program. Tatum gives his all and cares about his students. You get more than just the info ffrom a book and a power point. You get the real stufff that will help you thru school and life. He is one in a million.

If you go to class and follow the Study Guide and also are in class for the examination reviews you will do well. His lectures follow the book and expand beyond the book to what is relevant.
