great teacher, has a lot of faith in his students and is willing to help however he can. Class takes some very fun trips too.
Great teacher! very helpful and patient and is very flexible.
Approachability of a kitten; fun environment; hard to understand if you dont already know photography basics.
Photo103 need own SLR film or digital camera. Class teaches photo concepts+camera functions. Editing w/Photoshop but not a main focus. A beginner, weekly assignments of 36 images took me approx 2-3 hrs shooting (100 images) + 2 hrs editing. NEVER used the book. Upon completion, I understand photography terms + know how to use my fancy camera :)
What to say about Michael? He loves what he does, he loves his students (if they follow the rules and aren't complete morons. Which isn't a bad thing IMO) He also has a sarcastic sense of humor, which I appreciate. His course isn't necessarily easy, but if you follow the rules and do your work, you will be successful. And you will have fun.
Great teacher and very helpful if you have problems. This class is easy if you love photography and stay on top of the work load. Lots of fun!!
Michael Wewer is a fantastic teacher of photography. With his instruction, I could literally see my progress throughout the quarter as my composition and technique improved. The class is very fun, a good atmosphere, informative, and you get to travel to places that you haven't been before. I highly recommend it.
Great instructor! I have been a photographer for several years now, and being self taught, I figured it was time I got formal training. I learned more in 12 weeks about the art of photography than I had in the previous 6 years! Mike is an excellent instructor, and full of extremely usefull information!
Super instructor. One of the best teachers at Edmonds. You will learn more about photography then you think. And camera I have had other photo classes with other teachers and WEWER is the best.
Great instructor, really invested in the students' progress. Guest speakers are a plus to students interested in pursuing photography as a career. He had Grant Haller come out, who photographed for the Seattle PI for 30 years! he's the most entertaining speaker by far. Field trips are great too for international students to see WA.
102 is a portfolio based class where you have more freedom to take photos of whatever you want. peer critiques are a must in this class and its fun to see what everyone is up to. Word of advice: Come to open lab! its better to come to lab because there aren't a lot of people there and you can get a lot more work done.
This class is essentially photo 101 but with digital cameras. Photoshop is also used in this class as well as bridge. Coming to class is a must! The only reason I didn't get as good of a grade as 101 or 102 is because I missed a few classes, therefore, a few assignments. We did studio lighting in this class too which was so fun!
Great teacher!!! Was very clear on provided assignments. Always available and helpful when I have question!!!
Great teacher! Very friendly and helpful. I learned a lot from this class. He is extremely patient and willing to help the students one by one. The class was fun too! Highly recommended to take his class!!
super good photo teacher. really knows what he is talking about. he will answer all your questions about photography.
Great professor. Sarcastic, humorous, and easy going. Considered him more of a friend than a teacher by the end of the course. I recommend going to the field trips. They're awesome.
Mike is a great guy. This class was not hard. All you have to do is stay on top of your game! get assignments in, do the best that you can do, and come to class on time! He's a funny guy. I would ask him a ton of question and he is always happy to answer them.
Great class to take. Lots of money goes into the materials needed but it is a great class to work on photo skills. I would take it again sometime.
If you enjoy photography and need help with it, Wewer has all the resources and help you need to develop your skills.
Fun, laid-back, and very informative. Attendance is mandatory, but there are many options for making up missed class time. I will never forget what I have learned from Michael, he is by far one of my favorite professors. Great classroom atmosphere, I have made many long lasting friendships in his classes. Classes are for beginners and advanced.
Honestly, I have him to thank for dropping everything to follow a life long dream. Not just a teacher, but a friend for many years to come.
This class is a really fun class. Textbook isn't required, so if you're worried about money just avoid it (as you will have to buy 10 rolls of film, negative holders, and 25 sheets of light sensitive paper (though I suggest buying 2 packs as you can blow through them really quick)). Try to go see the guest speakers, as well as the field trips.
WEWER M is a great teacher, funny , easy(each week 24 photos) I love his photo class and I register for photo 103 next quarter
Great teacher! Funny and very helpful. Don't miss class though because you will fall behind. The first 2 weeks don't seem fun because he's explaining how everyone's camera works but after that it's great!
Michael is the best teacher you'll have at Edmonds if you take his class. He is knowledgable, and being able to take his class has truly inspired me to further my interest in photography. He's sarcastic, funny, and supportive. One of my favorite classes.
Michael is the best professor in Edcc. His photography work is amazing and he strives to ensure that all the students understand concepts of photography. I will take his Photo 102 in summer or fall. I had the chance to at least go to all his field trips which was an awesome moment to Tour Washington. To be best at photos,go for his field trips.!
I had a lot of fun in his class. I took 101 in winter and 102 in spring. He was very inspirational, help and HOT!!
Pretty chill professor and class overall. He goes into a lot of camera history and how cameras work during the first couple weeks, which was pretty interesting. His assignments are usually pretty clear, and the trips are fun. Taking photos and editing them in Photoshop was nice as well. Definitely recommended.
Super helpful and inspiring ! Love his class! I always have a great time and have learned so many awesome things that I will continue to use in the future!:)
took his 2 class, both 4.0 do ur work and dont be late your will get a A good feedback, friendly to begingger
He is the one of the best teacher in the EDCC . He is very helpful to international or domestic student. Also his trips on weekend with students is the best part of the class
Helpful teacher. May be busy at times but when he is talking to you, gives his full attention. Knows what he is doing. corrects you but in the most respectful way. you learn from him a lot. got a great sense of humor too. Just try not to be late though, he hates that.
Great class love it
Great class, show up ready to work ontime, it matters. If you miss a class you will fall behind.
He is a very good teacher. Few first days of class can be a little boring, but when you can hold a camera, only fun stuffs happening! As long as you show up to class, put your effort on your works, you can have fun while easily pass the class. He is not super strict about being on class late, but you shouldn't late. 10/10 would take his class again
I learned a lot about taking good photographs. Not an easy A though it may seem so. He respects students who show up, participate and are courteous to the rest of the class by participating and listening. Great field trips, he is very helpful. An upstanding guy who appreciates people. I plan on taking more courses.
Took photography because I wanted to try something new and was interested in photography. I really regret that I took this class. Wewer is a nice guy but lectures are very slow, repeatable and boring. He doesn't show how to use camera but instead really likes to get off topic or talk about himself. However, the guest speakers were amazing.
Michael Wewer is a great teacher. He gives clear directions on what he expects for assignments, If you ask for help he will help you. He takes time out of his schedule to provide students with field trips so that you are able to get the assignment done. Very kind and funny would take class again
He is the best teacher Ive ever had my whole life. He makes you feel important in the class and also helpful when youve got problem. He is strict about time because he want you to become responsible with every aspect of life. More respect to him.
Unclear about assignment due dates and what he wants done. Will tell you one thing but expect a different final product. Great guest speakers, he knows what he is talking about and will help only if you ask for help.
Even though I won't ever be taking another photography class due to my major, I will say that the photography 101 course was an enjoyable one. Mr. Wewer is a genuine guy who clearly has a passion for what he does that inspires that class. His sense of humor and sarcasm made the class more enjoyable for me. EDCC needs more teachers like him.
very good and fun class I love it.
Mr. Wewer is a great easy-going teacher. I had a ton of fun in his class, but sometimes he would drone on about the randomest of things and it was boring. That is literally the only con, he responds to emails fast and is very helpful. You get an assignment like every week, so be prepared to leave your house at least once a week. I recommend him!
Michael Wewer is a great professor who is very passionate about the field he is in. He is really kind and funny. He is willing to help, so if you do not understand something in this class ASK FOR HELP. Take this class if you have the time to go out and take pictures on your own free time. Show up to class ready to work and don't fall behind!
I'm NOT going to lie. Mr. Wewer is the best teacher at EdCC Just come to class everyday and listen what he said you will pass and get 4.0. ;)
Mr. Wewer was a great teacher. I really enjoyed the guest speakers he chose to bring in, and would take his class again in a heartbeat! Also the pace of his class is good and you are given lots of time to work on your weekly photo projects. Just a tip try not to be on your phone or interrupt him while he is talking to someone.
Hes pretty chill for the most part. Theres a lot work to do but if you just keep doing the assignments due each week, you wont fall behind. He will crack some jokes and even pick on you but its just for fun. His directions are clear and its easy to get an A if you just do your work.
Really had a fantastic time in this class getting to know everyone and especially Mr. Wewer. He's a real funny guy who taught me valuable things about the world of film photography, and I had a great time taking his class. As long as you show up each week with the assignment assigned the week before ready to enlarge, you'll do and have a great time
Wewer is a great guy. He doesn't mind to answer any question and gives clear feedback afterward.
The in-class work is very laid back, and often times different speakers come in to talk about photography (pretty interesting lectures). Although you will need to spend some time outside of class taking pictures. Michael was an amazing teacher who grades generously and is passionate about photography. (only bad thing is that he grades very late).
Mr Vewer is the one of the best instructor at EDCC . I was taking this class only for EASY A but the professor made me like Photography and I am doing minor major as Photography because of him. He teaches so smoothly and he answer any question you have. Also best thing he brings his friends as guest speaker and THE FIELDS TRIPS ARE THE BEST
Michael is a great proffesor, and he makes the class very easy and interesting! I took it online during COVID, but it was still easy and laid back! He still offered field trips, help, and had zoom lectures:). I loved his assignments and the way he teaches. Take him!!
Taking this class was a real gem, so much so that I found myself showing up early, and staying back late to spend more time working on my photos. Professor Wewer is incredibly clear about what he wants from us and he really does care about your success. He taught me so much about not only film photography, but all photography as a medium of art. :)
I couldnt ask for a better photography instructor in my life! He is amazing and grades generously if you put enough effort into this class. You will fall in love with photography if you take his class
Thanks to Michael Wewer I learned how to tell stories with my photographs. The class focused on the basics of photography (film black and white), composition, lights and shadows among others. There are always visitors giving lectures and inspiring new photographers. I learned how to work in the darkroom and develop my own film. It was awesome.
This was a fun and great class to take. I love photography and wanted to improve so I took this class. The professor did give feedback which helped a lot. Theres optional field trip opportunities where you get to go to some places like the Japanese Garden in Seattle, UW, Leavenworth, and a few others. You get a chance complete your hw during that.
Professor Wewer was excellent! He really helped me understand photography concepts and showed us awesome places /locations to capture images for assignments. He allows students their freedom of artistic expression in assignments inside of the technical criteria & was always available to review concepts. Dont miss the field trips!!!!
He is the one of best instructor at Edmonds college . He is willing to help students anytime ! As international student , he show respect a lot to me when I speak not clear English ! Thanks to have him and I am looking forward to get it again !
If you're considering taking this class you definitely should. Wewer has weekly lectures with amazing photographers! People who actually work in the field and can tell you anything you want to know about photography. Ask lots of questions you will learn a l lot. I took all 3 of his classes.
One of my favorite teachers of all time. Taught me a lot about photography and myself. Hilarious and caring for all students. Show up to class, participation is key!
I took photography with Mr. Wewer in 2019. He is very knowledgeable in photography and does a good job at making sure students understand the subject matter that is being taught. Attendance in both classes is essential since they are pretty fast paced, especially if youre in the film class! Lots of great guest speakers and field trips.
With Michael, you will learn a lot and the ins and out of photos. He explains the topic very well and gives you the chance to have practice with him. You can get more practice if you go on the field trips and even do the assignments required for the class while you are on the field trip. His class will help you know many places to take photos too.
Wewer knows the ins and outs of all things photography. He is an excellent instructor for either digital or film as well as a fantastic darkroom instructor. He has years of experience in the field and shows is knowledge in class. He is always available for answering any questions you might have.
Michael is an excellent instructor with years of experience. Very supportive and understanding. He gives good feedback and really puts effort into making the class more meaningful experience than just assignments or textbooks. It is expected of you to have good attendance and participation in order to pass the class.
One of my best teachers at EDCC. He treats every student with respect regardless of your background, takes time explain things comprehensibly for all students. I love the field trips, great away to learn, very exciting and do your assignments too. As long as you do your assignments you will do great in his classes.
1. go on the field trips 2. pay attention 3. Do the work! If you wait until the last weeks in class to do the projects ... you will not do well. His classes work better if you do the projects it with one or two of your fellow classmate.
You won't learn anything. First 3 weeks were the same zoom of Michael showing off his cameras. I had to go to a friend to ask questions because Michael wouldn't respond to my emails. Zero feedback on assignments. Show up and take pictures of anything with anything and you will get an A+, super disappointing class if you want to learn photography.
Taking this class made me learnt a lot about photography. Not only the technical aspect but also the effort you have to take to understand composition, subject of matter and concept by doing the exercises on and off the field. Michael have also helped me lots with photography developing skills besides the classes I took with him. Really great Prof!
I've taken all three Photo classes from Michael. The first few weeks can be intimidating as he goes over some history and dives into the basics of photography. It is worth it though as it helps you understand how to take better photos and the rest of the quarter is spent on photo projects. He has a great dry sense of humor. Great guest speakers too
Micheal is a great professor. He cares so much about his students and tries to inspire them. He brings professionals to the class for lectures and arranges field trips, where he show a more hands-on photography experience.
Michael is an excellent teacher. He has a strong passion for his students to succeed and is always happy to help his students when they need it. He has many years of wisdom when it comes to photography and absolutely loves to share it with his students. His classes are not to difficult but he pushes you to challenge yourself. Highly recommend!
Good teacher that teaches you a the fundamentals of photography. He helps you understand what you need to do to improve and understand the basics. Class is fun and worthwhile but will take up some of your free time as all homework is done outside of class. 10/10 would recommend
Solid choice, cares about what he does. Not too much work, just make sure you keep up with the assignments or you will lag behind.
Would recommend. Very knowledgeable, would plan field trips during the weekend to be more hands on and would guide you on how to apply the learning material to real life when taking pictures. He brings in previous students in the industry and has guest speakers that are really fun and inspirational. It was honestly a fun class!
This class was a piece of cake. Professor Wewer is the best! All the assignments were so easy and he plans field trips so you can get help. I would take my pics the day of and get 100%. Three short paragraph about photographers is the only writing assignment. If you showed up to the final zoom you get the last assignment waived, and gives you 100%!
Professor Wewer is very passionate about teaching Photography. He makes his assignment requirements very clear and his field trips are very helpful and fun as well. I had a very positive experience with Professor Wewer. I had very little knowledge about Photography before this class and I got out learning a lot.
While the class was not hard by any means because it was more of an introductory course, I was able to learn the ins and outs of a camera I haven't uses up until then. Being able to take an excuse to go outside and take pictures on his "field trips" is always a plus.
Prof. Wewer is great and this was a super fun class to take in the summer. He is passionate about photography and teaches it well. As someone who prior to this class knew nothing about how to work a camera, I learned a lot! Plus he offers field trips where you can complete your assignments and get help. There are loaner cameras available as well.
Had a great time in the class. He offers help and extra resources to make sure you do well. Would take again.
Wewer is an awesome teacher. I would encourage others to take it to further understand photography.
Wewer has been a great professor! Showing how things are done and how to improve. He does bring very well known photographers to lecture to the motivate us. Showing us examples every week and shows many demos for us. DO NOT SLEEP IN THIS CLASS!! Its important to show as much as possible to the class and doing your work! Overall this was great class
Michael's teaching style is straightforward for a beginner photographer or someone learning more about photography. The class offers a unique experience of working with black-and-white film and dark room printing. Although some may consider this class difficult, as long as you take the time to do the work it's easy to get a good grade.
Great professor! Helps you out on an independent level. Strong camera knowledge.
I personally struggle with dyslexia and he makes me feel super comfortable and I don't feel stupid in his class. He goes very in detail when lecturing and teaching and I understand all of it. I never once not liked showing up to his class. Take his class because it is very useful.
Very fun class and great professor, knows pretty much everything there is to know about cameras. Learning in the darkroom is very fun but a little difficult at first.
Great intro to film photography! The darkroom is awesome, and the teacher is a great guide to students of all experience levels. Would take again!
I took Wewer for Fall 22 & Winter 23 & was very pleased with his style of teaching. Very reasonable grader and a fun instructor! I went through a very difficult circumstance and was struggling to keep up with schoolwork, but upon speaking to Mike, he was very understanding-as long as you communicate, he will meet you where he can. Highly recommend!
Mr. Wewer is a great and lenient teacher. The lectures are quite long but you just have to sit through them. There's no reason you shouldn't have an A in the class, it's super easy. Also he has lots of extra credit options that help to bump up your grade. Make sure you take this class with a friend so you won't get bored.
Best professor everrrr so sweet and amazing and very funny
Within the first month of Professor Wewer's class, I lost his camera and fumbled countless times on numerous tasks. I was sure I was cooked. In the end, Wewer's endless patience and belief in my success resulted in me passing with a 4.0. If I could, I would definitely take his class again. And his lectures were not too long.
He was very reasonable with expectations and provided clear, helpful instructions, and feedback on assignments. He was pretty reasonable with the deadlines a lot of my assignments were turned in later in the quarter as I was having trouble keeping up (mostly my fault). Overall an amazing teacher really enjoyed taking the class.
Gives roughly one assignment each week. Very light workload. Willing to help. Lectures are very long and boring.
First time picking up a camera? Mr. Wewer will guide you on how to use a camera and possible lone you one with no cost! Do the work and you'll get an A. He's very nice and provides optional field trips to take picture (I recommend going!). If you're interested in photography or just need the credit I highly recommend.
Michael Wewer genuinely wants his students to deepen their skills in photography. I now more than I didn't, from a click of a button to having more thought in using a camera. Grading is lenient with purpose to learn concept of the week. Many guest speakers he has network with brings in perspective on Photography in practice, as career, or hobby.
Professor Wewer is incredibly knowledgeable and patient. The hands-on darkroom work was challenging but rewarding. Unstuck AI was a huge help for exam prep.
Loved the field trips!
Amazing guy. Seemed grumpy and sarcastic at first, but is actually just concerned for his students. He wants his students to succeed, is eager to help, easy to talk to. He will guide you whenever you're confused. Just don't bring food into his class. And be direct with him if you need anything. 10/10 for Mr. Wewer
His lectures are slightly long but he creates a fun and enjoyable learning environment. He does field trips which really help to give you hands on experience too. He is very helpful and can give you all the feedback you need to succeed. Genuinely one of the nicest and most caring instructors I have had.
