Very interesting! Teacher is more than fair on tests, which are 100% from lecture. Gives lots of cool example making the class very enjoyable!
If you are going to take Cognition, you can't go wrong in Mike's class...
funny, smart, great.
His lectures are really interesting but jam-packed. He give no visual cues to help so its all your own notes. However, his sense of humour helps drill the points home. :) Overall really a good prof.
Great prof, everything on exams he goes over in class. No surprizes, makes things very interesting, Always has a coke in hand and some times rips up money. I really enjoyed his class.
very intresting lectures, eastly gets the point across, would defiantly recoment taking this corse. u will learn a lot.
mike is awesome!! he makes stats more than bearable. very clear, very understanding overall a great prof. I highly reccomend taking any of Mikes classes.
Was my second time taking first yr psych, did so much better in his class, ditto the always having a coke in hand...everything is based on lecture. Very Fair and intresting, my fav class
GREAT PROF!!!!
This class 'Principles of conditioning', 'conditioned' me never to take another class from this instructor! If you never have to talk to your instructors you should be okay with him but if you do, expect to be made to feel small and dumb. He is a good lecturer but has a big ego.
Friday afternoons were not fun for class, and the course was rough. But Mike was clear and fair on tests. Hard material with lots of theory and not enough ways it can be used.
there was a ton of material to learn but he made it interesting with lots of examples and ilusions. To bad he cut his hair.
talks fast, get a tape recorder becuz most of the test q's are from lectrues! funny stories kept me awake
If you can, take stats with him! He gives lots of examples and takes the time to explain everything in class.
Loooveee this guy! Hes so funny and keeps you awake for sure... talking about his drug trips in the 80s ect, haha. He test right out of his notes, so go to class and pay attention and you'll do awesome.
He is the best guy!!!! his class is sooooo~ entertaining. if you take good notes in class and study hard, it's easy to get good marks.
Great teacher, well spoken, interesting lectures
great at teaching, but talks too fast in lecture, then wont repeat himself. Dont ask questions, he makes you feel dumb, and he has probably the biggest ego ive ever seen in a teacher. Go to class and study your notes and youll do fine
good guy
Awesome stats teacher. All tests were openbook. Will make you feel stupid if you ask questions or disagree with him.
talks superfast vbut will warn you when something is -really- important

"So my wife"..chalk roll, chalk roll (you all know what I'm talking about. Definately part of the I love Mike club, interesting lectures and original analogies for super boring stats concepts. Made me want to learn and attend class. Take stats with Mike if you can, I'm not a math person and he helped me succeed...talks fast though so pay attention!
DONT BUY THE TEXT BOOK! There is NOTHING on the test that he doesnt say in lecture. Go to class, take notes, look over notes, ace the tests. He gives little anecdotes to help you remember stuff and makes everything really interesting. TAKE THIS PROF!
By far my favorite Prof. at TRU. You definitely have to go to class and pay attention, but if you do that then you will succeed easily. All tests are straight from the lectures! He will not test on anything that doesn't come straight out of his mouth. Very entertaining and keeps lessons interesting!
very interesting, lots of fun, and makes awesome ways of remembering things
Love him...always keeps the class fun with his stories which help in remembering what he was taking about come test time. Does not really use the text so probably a waste of money and he like to test on things he says so remember to just agree on everything he says and you will be fine. NEVER disagree :)
Biggest ego on campus. Monotone lectures ok but don't take more than one class, too much overlap. Don't bother asking for help, he hates it and will make you feel small and stupid. Don't expect to get your term papers back, he will lose it without a care.
Good Prof, straight forward, tests on his lectures.
Best prof! Really knows his stuff, and definitely engaging! As long as you go to class and take notes you'll do fine. Most of the time I didn't read the text and still managed an A!
Absolutely the best Stats prof you could get. Teaches you what is relevant, lets you use book and notes on the test, but still makes sure you know it. Super interesting and hilarious guy as well :)
Mike is the reason I want to major in psychology. He makes the class so interesting! Explains material well, has an awesome sense of humour, and really knows how to relate his students. I look forward to every class with him. His exams are based on his lectures, so you hardly need to read the textbook. Best psychology professor at TRU for sure.
He isn't a very good stats prof because he rushes through material and doesn't explain them well. He says that he's disappointing with our exam marks; well maybe he should start teaching us the stuff none of us understand.
Sit upfront. He talks very quietly.
He's alright. He goes through material quickly so it's hard to write things down. Doesn't use powerpoint you just write down everything he says. He does let you use your notes and textbook for every test though. Try to sit at the front so you can hear him and read his writing.
Crappy stats prof. I do not recommend him. He tries to mash too many chapters in an hour and will not explain himself because he runs out of time. Skip this dude for stats.
Brilliant Stats Teacher. Makes everything very basic. Attending lecture is important. His tests are fair. If you take good notes in lecture its smooth sailing. I loved him, can't wait to take more courses with him.
LOVED him as a prof in psych. Don't get on his bad side he has a bit of a temper but all in all he is still my fav prof. He kept his lectures interesting and gives lots of examples. tests are fair and mostly multiple choice. Stick to your notes, i never once opened my textbook other than to look at diagrams and definitions.
Make sure you keep really good notes because his tests are open book. I barely used the textbook because he teaches differently from the text so make sure you listen closely and write everything down. He talks quietly and sometimes it's hard to read his writing so sit close to the front.
I had him for stats and he was great because the tests were open book. He's terrible for this class, you need to record him! He talks way too fast and the course content is a little difficult. I'd just appreciate it if he would repeat himself once in a while. The text is alright, I would read it before class so you can understand what he says.
This guy is hilarious and made class enjoyable. He gave me a thorough understanding of basic stats that has helped me through my university career. Would recommend!
In upper level classes, Mike allows students to leave a tape recorder at the front of the class- use one! Mike has a HUGE ego, picks favorites and HATES being asked for clarification. He NEVER uses the textbook and you can usually Google to find out more information. Majors: I recommend taking John's classes to fulfill the science Psyc requirement.
For lower level courses his class is very easy; he wants you to pass. although attending lecture is not necessary, many test questions are based on lecture material and you have no way of knowing the answer unless you were in class. The textbook is not necessary- I never bought it and still got a+'s in both the classes I took with Mike.
Mike is really interesting and funny, which makes it easy to learn from him. The way his class was set up was with 3 non-cumulative midterms rather than tests, a midterm, and a final, which made it a lot easier to study for. I only read the textbook once or twice and he never referenced it in class.
Mike's class is interesting I guess the only flaw is that he mumbles and it is so hard to hear him lecture especially when his slides are almost completely useless and his lectures are all he is basing the exams on. The other thing is that he never reviews what he says, you miss one word your pretty much screwed.
Exams are really hard, and you have to work to pass. Only take it if mandatory or if you are extremely interested in Psychology. If you are taking only for credits, drop this course immediately! Michael can also be quite rude when you go to his office.
Exams are really hard, and you have to work to pass. Only take it if mandatory or if you are extremely interested in Psychology. If you are taking only for credits, drop this course immediately! Michael can also be quite rude when you go to his office.
Awesome, funny guy. Comes all a little brash but is super helpful. His exams never try to trick you and he hasn't been assigning papers lately, bonus!
Starts off slow, very quiet and hard to understand. However, once he gets into his lecture, he is very entertaining and insightful. I have enjoyed every class I have attended. Be prepared to go to every class, as he uses no material from the text (which is great, save yourself from buying one). Take good lecture notes, tests are easy if you do.
Textbooks aren't needed; he marks tests solely from his notes. Go to class and you'll do fine on the 3 tests (light course load). Mike seems to be really hit or miss; everyone loves his lectures but some people understand his testing style and rock the exams and some people just don't, making it a tough course for them. I would strongly recommend ,
No assignments, just tests. MUST take auditory notes, otherwise you will not pass. A really funny guy, but if you do not take notes, you won't pass.
- Be ready to take notes, make flashcards, and study. - Classes are very interesting if you are interested in how you think and how your mind works. - There isn't much time for questions though so make a friend in the class to help you with understanding.
Mike has hilarious anecdotes and his examples are helpful to remembering the course material, the 50 minutes just fly. I would recommend showing up to every class because his power points won't help you, it's based on his lectures.
No textbook needed, so definitely have to attend classes and take very good notes. His tests are fairly easy but he is very particular about the answers he's looking for. The course material is very interesting but be prepared to put a lot of work into understanding concepts and doing your own further research on theories etc.
You go in sit down take notes then leave. It is a very monotone class. It was very boring most of the time. He talks bout sex a lot! I'm more of a hands on learner, like projects. For hands on learners I wouldn't recommend him.
Woszyn makes psych interesting. His tests are very easy if you show up to all the classes and take good notes as nothing is from the text books or online unless it's a diagram. I would definitely recommend this class, I got an A+ with little effort.
Mike is a really great professor! as long as you go to class and pay attention, you will do well. I got an a+ with minimal effort and studying, I felt it was very easy to go and talk to him, he was very personable, and had no problem giving real life examples in class. He is really good at making the information interesting. One of my favourites!
did not require a textbook however if you are not great at taking notes it is extremely helpful. he strictly uses what he covers in class for tests. some use of slides. the textbook i used was bought used. older books are fine.
Take Michael for classes any chance you get.
Interesting lecture, pretty easy if you study what he talks about in class and take good notes
Mike is hilarious in a sort of twisted way. He had the whole class laughing all lecture, all the while teaching us and successfully helping us remember the material (it must be because he's a psychologist!). Not a hard classhe wants everyone to pass. My only warning is that he has a dry sense of humour that some people might not understand.
Mike's class was the most entertaining part of my week. I always looked forward to what kind of wildly interesting thing we would learn. He's hilarious and he has these great mnemonics for remembering the material. Go to class! All test material is from class. Go to the class you paid for anyway, you won't regret it. Would take again!
Have you ever watched House? That's Mike but with messy black hair and shorter. Amazing prof who knows his stuff and takes little bs, but likes to joke a little too. Can come across as a little brash at times but is worth it. You'll learn a great deal. Take good notes though for he is old school: mostly talks, some diagrams and overheads. Take him.
Looks like Raymond Romano, 10/10
Really loves his job. Super smart and really passionate. One of my favourite profs!
This was the easiest class I took! I did not take notes but recorded his lecture, and listened to them the day before the exam. There are no tricks in his exams! All this said I don't think I would have done well if it had tried to take notes insead of recording it!
Mike is hilarious! His class was the most entertaining part of my week. He is very intelligent, and gives a lot of tricks to help remember the information.
Goes off topic a lot. Talks about his past personal issues. Very monotone, quiet and boring lectures. Funny guy, but I will never take his class again.
Mike was amazing! He made class super interesting and easy to follow along, his tests are based solely off notes from his lectures and are very straight forward, no surprises. He has hilarious stories that add to the class and make you laugh! would definitely take again!
He's a good prof! Not my favourite, but not even close to being bad. He's funny and his lectures are enjoyable -- which never happens for hour and fifteen classes. I haven't even taken any exams from him yet but if theyre easy like others have said then take his class 10/10
I LOVED him! I found his lectures really engaging and entertaining. He made learning that much funner! He is really straight forward and makes class well worth attending. He gives you lots of tricks to remember the material and tells you a great story to go with it. I really enjoyed his class and hope I have him as a professor again.
This guy is absolutely one of my new fav prof. Dude is freaking hilarious. Lectures were amazing! Never got bored or fell asleep during his 1.25 hour class. I fell in love with psyc because of him. Tests were fairly easy. Easy A if you go to class, take good notes and read the text. Be sure not to screw up any test tho since there are only 3 tests.
Very lecture heavy, but he is very engaging making this course great. I recommend showing up to class and studying for the test since there are only 3 and that is what you are completely graded on.
Interesting lecturer, funny and smart. His tests are bizarre. He tests on the EXACT words he says in class so you need to write down what he says verbatim. It doesnt matter if you know the stuff inside and out, if you don't know the exact wording you are hooped. Super tricky "all/none of above/2 of the above" Multi-choice. wont take him again
Favorite prof. Hands down best lecturer, his teaching style is incredible and to top it off hes also really funny and laid back type of guy.
Enjoyable lecturer, he makes the class very interesting! However his tests are ridiculous, based solely off his lectures.
Mike's class was a great learning experience. I would definitely recommend taking classes with him. It is important to go to the lectures in this class because the material can be difficult to understand, but Mike explains it well and relates it to real-world situations which really helps. He has a good sense of humour and cares about his students
Mike gives plenty of extra material to read to supplement what he teaches in lectures. He also has a take-home test and ten quizzes worth 1% each which helps bump up marks. Record the lectures and listen to them before a quiz or leading up to an exam, this really helps as some concepts are complex and it is beneficial to hear them explained again!
Mike's class was fine. He gave the lecture as if he were telling a story which is always a plus, and he made direct links with his life to make it easier to remember; however, his class is only graded by 3 tests: 2 midterms (worth 30%) and the final (worth 40%). This puts more stress in you as you don't have the luxury of doing poorly in one.
I have had Mike as a professor twice now, and found his classes very interesting and engaging. You must attend all his lectures and be on the ball to write down everything he says as his tests are solely based on his lectures with not much extra material. The only downside about Mike is he is quite harsh if he thinks your question is dumb.
The lectures were interesting and he included some funny real life stories which made content memorable. Asking questions seemed like a no go, as he often seemed to make students feel belittled. All grades acquired in my psych1110 were through 4 tests and content is based solely off lecture, miss a class and youre behind.
All his tests are multiple choice and he doesnt mark anything else. No assignments, quizzes, just 2 tests and the final! He is an amazing professor that knows his stuff and makes it understandable for those in his course. He is hilarious and very honest about his opinions on the material he teaches! I love him, FAVOURITE PROF IVE EVER HAD!
Mike is one of my favourite professors i've ever had. Witty, extremely intelligent, and a fantastic lecturer (especially in statistics). If you ask a dumb question in front of the class, he will make you look dumb, so be prepared for that. You must show up to every lecture, but you'll want to. 100% would take a class with him again.
Funny guy, talks fast though. Tests are straight out of his lectures so if you dont show up you will probably miss out on some marks.
He's clearly very good at math, but those who aren't will struggle, and it seems to be by design. He talks fast, doesn't explain new concepts well. Harsh grader. Condescending to struggling students, told us we should drop out if we didn't do well. Encourages students to ask questions but acts makes fun when they do. Killed my interest.
Mike is by far one of TRU's best profs. He's super funny, making a dry stats course exciting and helps you stay focused. If you attend every class on time, pay attention, ask questions (real questions, not ask him to repeat himself because you weren't listening), then you'll do well. If you don't do those things, why bother with university anyway?
Took virtual classes with Dr. Mike. I was scared of taking Statistics because of the material involved. However, he will teach the basics in the beginning and start building the lessons from there. The plus of taking virtual classes is that his lectures are asynchronous. Keep watching the videos until you get it. Funny, informative and helpful.
He is truly one of the most dedicated professors. I was skeptical about this class as I am not fond of math. However, he assured in the first lecture that he was going to make this course very understandable, which he actually did. He started from the very basics. I could grasp everything easily only for his lectures.
Dr. Woloszyn is the best professor I have encountered at TRU. If you are worried about math, I encourage you to take his class. Usually I struggle with math, however, he explains everything so well and is willing to clarify concepts for you. It is clear that he cares about his students and wants them to succeed.
I took his class online and they were asynchronous. One of the most entertaining classes I have had. Is not bad at teaching concepts and makes you practice them at a normal pace.
Mike is not a warm person but he is the best lecturer I have come across. He explains everything with tons of examples, he made statistics easy. You need to watch all lectures for weekly quizzes and stay on top of them or it is easy to fall behind.
I hate math of any kind and he made everything great. We weren't required to show up to the lectures, only the seminar, and he posted videos online for the week. Very easy to work with any schedule, and his seminar is good to go to for practice on the work given that week. Everything was open book, even the final exam. Take lots of notes for ease.
This is a mandatory course for Psych students & I am so glad he teaches it. He makes statistics as simple as it can possibly be. You will have to put in effort, but they will pay off for sure. Many reviews talk about him belittling students, but that was not the case for us- he might have changed? Don't be scared to take this class, it's awesome
Your reference material is 100% the notes you take, which becomes too overwhelming too quickly. You have to force yourself to attend no matter what, which is draining for some. Although the class is highly inaccessible, he is an excellent professor. Attending lectures and taking down notes is not enough I promise- record lectures, it is allowed.
I took both sensation and perception courses with him during the 20/21 online COVID year. He made videos that were genuinely hilarious... same energy as a youtuber honestly. I would look forward to watching the videos. His evaluations were extremely fair as well even if they were sometimes challenging.
Mike is a really good lecturer and a fair marker. Has a great sense of humour and makes things fun. A really smart person and has a lot of knowledge to share. Try your very best to understand the concepts he teaches and know when to apply them. Memorizing formulas is okay, but knowing application will get you farther in his courses.
Michael was an amazing professor and made me love psychology again. His expectations are clear and his lectures will always make you laugh!
Mike is very chill, he has clear expectations for his students. Watch the videos and you will do fine in his class. He's funny and always goes over tests after. Show up to his classes he offers bonus marks based on attendance
In intro stats, you're marked only on 3 tests, so that kind of sucks, but its partially open book. He's brilliant, and if you put in the work outside of class, you'll do well. All his lectures are on video and class time is spent doing practice sheets. He can be a little condecending if you need help, but Mike is great besides that.
Well respected and knows his stuff. I am not a math person and he made stats as easy to understand as you could probably get. Unfortunately, he can be very rude and be prepared when you ask a question to be embarrassed or challenged. If you don't attend the lectures you will not pass. He does not use a textbook and effort is required to do well.
To many he is rude and likes to pick on others, I can't refute that. He doesn't take the time to get to know you and he doesn't have to. I had to draw silly doodles on my test for him to remember my name. Test heavy, course is blended so lectures are pre-recorded but he says stuff in class that you need to know for tests. Just show up is my advice.
Bad at basic math and scared to do STATS? Please I am begging you to take his class. He was so helpful with his examples, practice problems, and steps. He made his class blended, which made understanding the calculations easier b/c you can go back however many times. He's funny so his videos/lectures are enjoyable. I'm so grateful I took his class
I can handle snark, minimal spark and an inflated ego in a prof but his slides look like they were put together by a toddler just learning to use PowerPoint and he wouldn't deny that. That's not to say he doesn't care about his students or the material. He is funny when he wants to be. Ditch teaching, Mike. Focus on research and you'll be happier.
Lectures were interesting with funny stories. He is very intelligent and passionate. 3 exams worth 33% each.Tests were fair and based on what he says in class, miss class you're in trouble and he does not post full slides. Warning: he is very intimidating and will embarrass you if you speak in class. If you avoid talking to him it's a great class.
I enjoyed how it was a blended online and in person course. The online videos are hefty at times but very well put together and he makes stats less daunting and quite easy to follow! He adds humour to his lectures to keep you attentive and engaged and gives you time in class to complete worksheets which I found very beneficial. Overall great prof.
Graded based on 3 tests, one of which was during the exam period. Be sure to make a friend in the class in the case that you miss one because while he does post his slides they don't match the lecture slides exactly and he gives the bulk of information verbally. Overall Mike is a nice guy who seems to know his stuff, the grading is just tough.
Professor Mike is a brilliant lecturer who makes stats surprisingly engaging. While he can be blunt, his clear expectations and engaging videos make the course doable. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for practice and study prep.
Very blunt and straight forward and can be quite intimidating when approached with questions. However, as long as you are clear about your question, he does a great job answering. He doesnt use a text book, and does not post his notes, so attendance is mandatory. However, if you show up and pay attention, his exams are incredibly fair.
If stats isn't your strong area (or you dont have a good base), you would have a 50/50 chance of passing the course. Also, if psychology is your minor, I recommend not taking this class. He assigns a lot of exercises which is good, but if you find it challenging and you want to ask him be really specific on your question.
