One of the best teachers in the department. He will make you interested in his classes and they are generally very easy and straight-forward. Will take any class he teaches.
Best teacher ever!!! You must take Yoder if you get the chance. He is best engineering teacher in all of Driftmeir. I wish all of my classes could be taught by him. He is such a nice guy too.
Best Professor I have ever had. He is extremely good at taking otherwise difficult and complicated subjects and making them understandable and interesting. He also teaches without making anything more difficult than it needs to be. I wish all professors taught like him.
Best professor I've ever had. If every teacher taught like him the world would be a far better place.
Such a great professor and awesome personality! You should absolutely take him if you're an engineering major. Makes MATLAB interesting.
Really nice, easy to understand professor. He knows his stuff, but he tries to make it as easy as possible for you to learn it. Our tests were easy take homes, and he didn't require us to buy a book.
Gives half open note half closed note tests!
Take Yoder if you want an easy class. That being said, if you actually want to learn MATLAB I would suggest taking someone else. With only a few weeks left of this semester the most complicated thing I have learned so far is the use of while loops; I do not feel like this course has prepared me adequately.
Super easy test. Rocks a Hawaiian shirt everyday so he's pretty awesome
Yoder is the man! If you get the chance to take him, DO IT! You won't regret it. Just show up to class, KEEP THE NOTES, and enjoy the easy class. The tests are half open notes, so as long as you review a bit, you will do fine.
This guy is awesome! I didn't know anything about Matlab but at the end, I was able to write about 200 lines of Matlab codes which does cool things. Test are easy and he is willing to help any time. You should't hesitate to take him. He is the man!
I had Yoder for the Matlab class that was required for my major. Yoder is great, hilarious, and wonderful. Did give a lot of handouts (100 pgs). Doesn't expect you to memorize codes, just a few commands. Gives a study guide before tests, posts answers online. Easy A if you're competent. Some program projects are tough, but doable. Take Yoder.
So far, Dr. Yoder is the best professor that I have had at UGA. His class was an easy A, and he is respected by almost every engineering student. He will help you out if you have any questions, and he presents the material clearly. Parts of his exams are open book, and he gives study guides before each exam. He posts the answer keys online.
Dr. Yoder is one of UGA's best. He cares a lot about his students and is a great person. Being in his class is a gift, so take advantage of it and get the A.
He is the man take his class. He is incredibly helpful.
He's a great guy and teaches the class very clearly. You could skip everyday and end with an A. Gives you notes each day so you don't have to take them, and his tests are exactly like his mock tests.
Professor Yoder is absolutely awesome. He is a great teacher and I would love to take a class from him again. He makes everything extremely interesting and pretty fun. He is a pretty funny guy too.
Dr. Yoder is a great guy and an even better professor. He makes the lectures as interesting as possible, and is pretty funny, too. Will definitely be taking classes with him again in the future.
Yoder rocks! The class was all fill in the blank notes & the exams are straight from the study guides he gives you. Take the class with him!
Dr. Yoder is known at UGA for being very easy-going and friendly. For his MATLab course, he uses guided notes to teach. While they may seem overly-simplistic at first, they are well-written and can be a valuable resource in later MATLab courses (if properly kept). Be wary, though - you may not be as well practiced as your peers w/ other teachers.
Very easy grader and an understanding guy
Take Yoder. Funny guy, really nice.
Dr. Yoder is great. I missed class from an appendectomy and he was very caring and helpful in getting me caught up. Also, when I lost my flash drive, he gave me another one free without even asking. You won't fail any of his classes if you put forth the effort, he is easy to contact and explains things well. A competent and genuinely nice guy
Amazing guy and professor. Makes thing very interesting. Tests were like the notes and homework.
Dr. Yoder is a really great guy. The class is super easy and he explains everything in very understandable terms. He gives out fill in the blank notes with everything you need to know for tests. Don't take the class for granted though, you do have to study and put in effort to get As and Bs. He is very accommodating as well.
Yoder is amazing. He cares and teaches well. Gives notes for you to take during class. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!
It's Yoder. If you're not doing well in his class, it's your own fault. The concepts in circuits do get a bit difficult toward the end, but he makes part of his tests open note and gives you the notes. As long as you go to class and are able to fill in the blanks he leaves in his notes and follow his examples, you'll do fine.
Great professor, makes things really easy
It's Yoder. He's one of the best teachers in the college.
My main critique of him is that his lectures are tedious and hard to pay attention to, since most of the topics he is discussing aren't nearly as hard as he makes them out to be. You will get an A+ in the class if you try even a little bit and show up for tests because he gives ample opportunity to make up assignments. He let us out 30 mins early.
This was the easiest class ever and Yoder is such a cool dude. I would definitely take this class again.
Dr. Yoder is super kind! By far one of the best Engineering professors at UGA! He is so kind too! I loved taking his class and I truly hope I get to take him again!
Yoder is the sweetest old guy. He makes the layout of the class super easy with a points system. Really informative about engineering. Assignments are super easy. fill in the blank notes. Group work, but it's an engineering class so duh. Final is required, but super easy. He doesn't put in grades, but if you're failing, you're the problem.
Yoder is truly the best professor I've ever had. He makes learning the material fun and enjoyable. Also, the outlines he gives mimic the tests so the tests are easy as long as you study his lecture notes. He goes above and beyond to make sure every student thoroughly understands the material.
Tests are your main grade and you can't dropp one. His tests are not what he teaches any more. Very difficult and better choices for this class
He's a rough grader on assignments with nooo partial credit. It's right or its wrong which can kill your grade. Avoid.
He's kknowledgeable, but he's a really strict grader on projects. After 3 missed classes, your grade drop a letter. There are much better professors.
My favorite professor. He is so nice and always in a good mood even at 8 am. I don't know what the recent bad reviews are about. The tests are mostly multiple choice and the study guides help a lot!
Mr. Yoder was one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is very helpful if you don't understand something, encourages questions, and his lectures are interactive. He hands out note packets to use on the tests and the final. He is very good at explaining topics and helping you work through problems you have. He wants to see his students succeed.
Yoder is the best, he's funny and his class is super easy. Tests are 50-70% open note and the final was 100% open note. He also didn't give a final project. He grades very leniently and just cares that students learn something. Attendance isn't mandatory but he would sometimes give in class assignments that you could only get credit for in class.
Love Him, took him for intro to ENGR and he's super caring and does assignments that really help you get out there as well as learn about opportunities around campus.
I loved taking ENGR 1140 with Yoder. He made the class very easy and enjoyable.
He has great notes pre-typed for his students. No prior programming knowledge needed. Lectures are easy to follow and so are his in class exercises. Tests are also very easy. As long as you pay attention and do your work, you'll be fine. Also, never spent any time outside of class.
Dr. Yoder is amazing. His class reminded me that I'm an engineering major because I'm passionate about it when I was on the verge of switching majors. His classes aren't very work-heavy but attendance matters.
Honestly, going to Yoder's class really brightened up my days. He is super nice and funny during class, and he really wants you to learn and enjoy his class. He reminded me why I love engineering.
Such a nice guy. Would randomly give students $5 for ice cream instead of having them answer a question. Tests are mostly open notes. Final is totally open note. Yoders a really caring professor and wants you to do well in engineering.
Do the work and you will be fine. Just about everything is open note! Great resources for later on in your engineering career. Very personable and will probably see him late at night somewhere in driftmier.
Dr. Yoder is a really great professor and a great person overall. His class was not too bad, as he gave notes that we could use on the test and final.
Dr. Yoder is a great guy and a caring professor. The class is set up to where he gives handouts during class that can be filled in and kept for your future classes. His notes are really great and you can also use them on certain portions of the tests. As long as you pay attention and do your assignments, you will do well in his class.
Best all-around guy and teacher. Lectures are straight forward and help a LOT. He gives you notes to fill in. Show up to class, pay attention to his examples in lectures, and fill in those notes and you'll get an A. Tests are 1/2 open note, 1/2 closed. Final is all open note. He really wants everyone to succeed and will help you any chance he gets.
Yoder is such an amazing professor! His matlab class is fairly easy and his lectures were easy to follow. He genuinely cares about his students and wants us to learn. If I could take him again I would!!
Dr. Yoder, is one of the best professors that I have taken since I have been in college. He is very helpful and very informative when he lectures. I would love to take Dr. Yoder for many other classes and I would highly recommend that you do the same.
Yoder's class was super entertaining and fun to be in! Workload was pretty minimal and a lot of the assignments were open note, but the class was still pretty informational. Tons of extra credit opportunities too!
Dr. Yoder is amazing and inspirational and he's the reason I am an engineering major. After a series of really horrible stem classes in high school, he restored my faith in my abilities and in engineering. His intro class is really easy and he gives a lot of opportunities to learn more about your chosen field. Take him. You won't regret it.
I took him for intro to engineering and now i'm in his matlab class. there's a reason i chose to take him again: he is simply amazing. it's so obvious how much this guy cares about students and their success. he can take all the credit for me choosing to major in engineering.
i swear even during the covid19 pandemic this guy is wonderful. i can't say enough how wonderful and caring he is. amazing lecturer, it's so nice to have a professor that actually cares about you as a student. if i could take the rest of my engineering classes at uga with him i would. super dedicated.
Yoder is a great prof! Although I haven't gone in person a lot of times, he does post lectures that are easy to follow online. Grading is very fair and similar to the lectures for exams. This is basically an intro intro programming class that anyone can learn. Take him if you can!
I love Dr. Yoder. I also took him for intro to engineering, he is just a really nice guy. For 1140 he really made it nice and simple by having us follow his lecture notes with quizzes bases on the notes and 2 tests and a final. If you do the work which isn't much you will do fine in the class and learn to do MATLAB pretty well.
He's one of my favorite professors! Super nice and helpful. Gives amazing detailed notes that go exactly with the tests and quizzes.
Our class was hybrid so we only got to go in once a week. Each week he gives you a set of lecture notes. The notes are lengthy but they include notes and practice and I found them super helpful. Class time was more used for review and questions so it was helpful to go.
As long as you follow the lecture notes, you'll be fine. This was during covid times and so attendance wasn't required and coming to class was optional but occasionally helpful. Imo, super clear quizzes and the course holds your hand as you go through the content with rare times when you actually have to think critically
He should be teaching a class to other professors on how to actually do their job and do it well. That is all I have to say. Real gem who actually cares about his students and can teach well.
I liked Dr. Yoder as a professor. I took this class during the pandemic. His class consisted of following lecture notes with a quiz each week which was never difficult. He also allowed students to come to class in person for additional help. He was very flexible with grading and late work. Would recommend for taking for a light work load.
Yoder was a great professor. His class consisted of easy to follow lecture notes and open note quizzes each week. The tests were fairly simple and it was clear what you were expected to know. He was super nice and encouraging.
i have a plethora of things to say about him, they all relate to him being one of my favorite professors at uga. he's the reason why i am an engineering major. he's so kind and willing to work with students, gives a balanced workload (enough to learn, not overwhelm without it being too little). he's literally perfect.
Dr. Yoder is amazing. He's so understanding , gives extensions, and he will help you on ANYTHING assignment. He's one of those professors that care about you actually learning the content then about grades and test. He WILL make sure you pass. He's also kinda funny. Take him you won't regret it
I absolutely loved this class! The workbook he wrote for the class is super clear, concise, and easy to use. I also love how truly kind he is. If you have any personal or emotional issues, talk to him about it and he will help you get through the class. He's a wonderful person and teacher.
Dr. Yoder is genuinely the best professor I have ever had. He thoroughly explains every concept in class, but if you don't want to go to the class his book explains everything as well. You are required to purchase a 35 dollar book, but it is worth it. He pays attention to everyone in his class and you will feel like you personally known him.
THE BEST ENGINEERING PROFESSOR AT UGA!! He should be teaching a class to all the professors on how to be a good instructor
Love Professor Yoder. People say your professors don't care about you, not Yoder, this man loves everyone of his students. Makes the class super easy, and literally tells us"I know your other teachers give you a lot of work, so I don't want to do that". Great Great teacher at teaching new things, and is very funny.
Literally such a nice guy, 10/10 recommend. Yoder understands you are a college student and that you have other classes to attend to, which is such a plus. The class itself isn't hard just make sure you complete the weekly quizzes and attend lecture!!
Absolutely fantastic professor. Assigns less work when other teaches give you more, lets you use the textbook and programming language during tests and quizzes. You also learn the content really well. He does a great job teaching and is the nicest professor I have ever had. Easiest class ever, best teacher ever, and fun class times tbh.
Very nice professor, attendance was mandatory but was lenient towards absences and made sure you made up missed assignments. Tests are also open notes and he actually came around and made sure we were doing the problems right.
Easy class and an EXTREMLEY nice professor. He answers questions well and gives reasonable amount of homework/projects. Attendance is mandatory, but I missed a couple of days and I was fine. He prepares you well for his tests and the tests are open-notes as well.
Yoder was fun and honestly just wanted you to know more about the fundamentals of engineering. We did a few design competitions in class and the winner would get money, which I thought was fun. He posted lecture notes and we would have reading quizzes online every week. We also had a few projects and a final. Overall, he was great.
Don't take this course. I can't say what I learned and it's a waste of a class. From learning about ethics to mixing concrete this class is all over the place and there is no need to pay attention in class to make a 100 on every quiz.
Very easy class. My major is undecided, and this class did not help me with gauging my interests. However, it was an easy 1-hour credit. Prof Yoder is very funny and wears a Hawaiian shirt to class every day. 8 question quizzes once a week on posted PowerPoints. The answers are all in the slides.
Awesome professor!
Dr. Yoder is one of the best professors I have had. He truly cares about his students. He said he understands that we have other classes that require more work and doesn't want to overload us. Tests and quizzes are straightforward. As long as you do your work you will be fine.
easiest class i've ever taken. the lectures are kind of scattered, so honestly, i didn't learn much during the semester which is why i took the class :\ but the only grades are online 10-question quizzes that have online lecture notes posted with them that have the word-for-word answers in them. easiest 100s ever. don't need to go to class
Very nice and funny guy. Uses a booklet he created that describes everything you'll do in class in extreme detail. Allowed to use book and notes for exams. Genuinely wants you to do well on tests. Will help you out if you're off track on an assignment or test. If you're new to programming you have to take his class.
Bro had immaculate voice cracks and makes class enjoyable
Very nice and funny professor, and super easy (and even a bit fun) course.
Easy and fun! He writes his own booklet, so content is easy to find and understand. I always finished the HW and weekly quizzes before class so it isn't much work. Yoder is easy going and cares about his students.
This class is so easy with Mr. Yoder. He is a super cool guy and sees tests as a 'learning opportunity' meaning that if you are confused he'll help or recommend trying something different. Everything is open notes too.
I had zero coding background & made all A's, absolute cakewalk. Yoder is an amazing guy, & he's really funny and understanding. Gives several tries to get things right & you learn by working through problems in a workbook he designed, which is helpful. BUT, material doesn't prepare you as well for future classes compared to other Matlab teachers.
Funny guy, and (to me) a very easy course. You can tell he puts a lot of effort into the lectures and worksheets. The class has a relaxed pace, so even if you're wary of coding it really shouldn't be tricky.
He is a great professor who is probably one of the best if not the best at teaching at UGA. I can't remember having a professor who used better teaching techniques and was able to make stuff relatable to us more than Dr. Yoder. He is lenient if you miss eLC due dates for weekly quizzes. Great professor who you should look forward to having.
great and inspirational guy
My favorite teacher I've had at UGA so far. Easiest class ever. Tests are open note, open matlab, and open internet, and the study guides are exactly like the tests. I even forgot to add units on a question on a test and he noticed and told me to fix it without taking off any points. Easiest 100 ever.
super easy class, open note assignments and tests, chillest professor ever. Dr. Yoder is very passionate about what he teaches and I would without hesitation take him again!
Yoder is the best. His class is easy, but I still learned a ton. He learns everyone's names and really cares about his students. His workbook and his guided lecture notes are very helpful. Please take him
He is very kind and understanding. If you miss a deadline, don't worry, he'll move it for you. Matlab is very intuitive and he does a good job of explaining it.
One of the best in the department and maybe the whole school. He somehow makes the material easy and the workload low yet you still learn so much. Yoder puts an insane amount of effort into how he teaches and connects the concepts to real-world examples. Super understanding and funny. If you've never coded don't worry. Tests and projects are EASY.
TAKE HIM FOR 1140! He is so knowledgeable and nice. I really looked forward to his class everyday and it was a 8am... so trust me on this.
Dr. Yoder is the best! In the Honors section attendance was mandatory, but class was fun and all assignments and tests are super easy. If you take the Honors class, I would recommend starting on your coding project several weeks early, but he grades it very lightly and is genuinely interested in your work.
Yoder is such a fun professor to start off with engineering at UGA. All of his lectures are helpful and can help you in other aspects of life. After the course ended, I saved all of his readings in a folder, which I recommend. His personality made the class fun and gave us fun, hands-on activities like making concrete and building LEGO bridges.
Professor Yoder is the best! He is so funny and makes class very entertaining. I would always laugh during his lectures, and he cares about his students.
Just an all around great guy, will help you if you need and wants your to succeed. There is a $50 textbook he writes you actually must purchase and will use for the entire class but it is super useful and explains all the concepts very well. Exceptionally easy class.
Great professor and willing to help you out outside of hours when you need it! Take him!!!!
It's almost impossible to fail this class. He's passionate, sweet, goofy, and accommodating. Grading criteria is very clear and he will tell you if something on your test is wrong as you're turning it in so you can fix it. Quizzes every week but they're online from the textbook. He made this class so fun. I cannot recommend him enough!!
Dr. Yoder is so kind and funny, so coming to class is always worth it even if you think the class is too easy. He tries so hard to get to know his students and share personal things about himself. He makes the content of the class really interesting and fun, and he encourages students explore topics they find interesting.
Go to class and its impossible not to get an A. Great guy, take him if you can. Yall can tell by the reveiws hes the best.
Professor Yoder is a great guy and very caring. he cares that you actually understand the material and you always leave his class in a better mood. Take him if you can.
Professor Yoder is a super laid-back and caring guy who truly wants you to succeed. He's very willing to help students understand content and perform well on assignments. The class is easy and he's great.
The king of MATLAB
really kind prof. tries to make class interesting, but really boring content. tests and final are open note open everything, show up to class and you get a 100 on the quiz. handed him my final and he looked at it there. said to look at a question again and had me redo it at my desk so I could get a 100
Listen. Yoder structures this class to be nearly impossible not to get an A. He has stated he does not believe in normal grade distributions and wants all his students to earn an A. Plus he's funny. Just take him.
one of the best professors at uga rn
Professor Yoder's class made me enjoy coding, something I would not have thought possible. He wrote the textbook for the class and it is well structured and builds great basics. Quizzes were take home and exams were open MATLAB which made them very easy. Really cares that you learn and works to make examples and assignments very engaging.
Honestly he is just a goat, I took his ENGR 1140 class and he taught it extremely well. He makes sure you are very prepared for his test, so don't stress it if you don't know what to study for it.
THE goat. Easiest ENGR course you will take guaranteed.
As long as you show up to class, you have a guaranteed A! Makes learning MATLAB not seem that bad, and is always willing to work with you on things you're struggling with.
Hes genuinely the GOAT.
Professor Yoder makes this class super fun and easy. He's so kind and accommodating - always willing to help. Use Unstuck ai along with the textbook to ace this class!
Professor is very kind, caring, and forgiving. As long as you are on top of your assignments and activities in this class, you will do fine as it is very easy.
Professor Yoder is very kind and caring. His class is easy to follow and understand.
This is the most genuine and caring professor I have met at UGA. He makes class enjoyable, and he truly cares about his students too. I loved taking his class and I would love to have him again. If you get the chance to take Dr. Yoder's class, DO IT!!!! HW, quizzes, and tests are all kept at a minimum, but you will learn in his class. He's awesome.
absolutely goated
Literally amazing. I would take him for every class if I had the option. Some people have complained about "not learning anything in his class" and that's because they didn't pay attention. His tests are essentially asking if you paid attention in class. It's honestly hard not to pass with an A. Could not recommend this class enough.
Amazing professor. Very informative class if you pay attention. People complain about not learning anything in it, that's because they did not pay attention. He has weekly quizzes that are open note, lots of interesting hands-on activities and videos, and you get to make concrete! Wish I could take him for more classes. Take this class.
Dr. Yoder is a straight chiller, he balances learning material with making content easy to get good grades on. There's 3 open notes tests, and a few projects. If you don't make an A you're doing something wrong. He is a really funny guy and genuinely has a passion for what he teaches. Please take him!
Very nice guy. You cannot go wrong taking his class.
Easy A, just do your work. Some days lectures are short and you can leave early, and sometimes lectures are long. There's weekly quizzes but everything is open note/ELC. Overall good professor and the class was pretty informative.
Super easy class with a professor who tries really hard to make class fun. Basically non-existent HW, open note tests, and most of the time you're able to leave class early. Note that if you really want to get into depth with learning Matlab though, you may want to take someone else.
Dr. Yoder is the nicest professor I've ever had, and genuinely one of the nicest people I've ever met. The class is insanely easy, but you still learn a lot. Take him.
He is honestly the goat of engineering professors, he is so nice and respectful. The class is clear and easy to do well in. He literally will help you figure out where you are going wrong. His textbook is $50 but it is honestly so useful. Even classtime is well used and he almost always lets out early.
Yoder is so nice. Some classes were a bit boring, but we often had activities and even made concrete once. Some of the quizzes were a bit tricky, but they are all open note so there really isn't any way you won't get an A unless you blatantly don't do assignments.
This class is just a bit boring. Yoder is super nice, and he does his best to engage but some of the lectures are just not captivating. That being said, you should be able to get an A easily if you just do the assignments and show up to class.
Dr. Yoder is a genuine and caring guy. The class is structured so that you should get an A if you show up and do your assignments. Classes are short and simple, and he tries to do fun demos every once in a while. You do have to buy the workbook but its useful and you can use it for all the tests. Take him for ENGR 1140 if you can!
Dr. Yoder is an excellent professor. He manages to perfectly balance not making the class overly difficult while also making sure you learn what he's teaching. Exams were all open book, but you still have to know what you're doing to do well on them. Just be careful of his quizzes. They are not too difficult, but can be easy to forget about.
kindest and best engineering professor. the guy really does go above and beyond and cares about students in a way thats rare for engineering. he has it down, how to make students feel like theyre learning without dying.
Easiest A you will get in any engineering class as long as you show up to class. He seems to genuinely care about his students and learning. All assessments are all open note and open textbook. I feel bad sometimes bcs so many students skip his class because its so easy.
Dr. Yoder is the GOAT!!! Switched into engineering as a 3rd year and Dr. Yoder helped make this transition so smooth for me. His class is very easy, and revolves around a workbook that he created himself. If you actually do the work in the workbook (only about 60 min per week) you'll easily get an A in the class, and learn a lot too.
insanely easy class, just go to lecture and listen. if you dont want to, you can learn everything from the textbook really easily. weekly quizzes, 2 tests.
Professor Yoder is very caring and the class is free as long as you show up. All the exams and quizzes are open note and you can use MATLAB during them.
Actually the most precious teacher ever. He is so encouraging and made me really enjoy MATLAB. Even for the honors section, we just had an extra project to do, and this guy couldn't be more impressed by all of our work. The tests are so chill and open book!! Gonna miss this class.
Easiest class of all time, Pep Guardiola of professors for those with ball knowledge
Genuinely the GOAT. Take him. He makes it super easy, but you still learn a ton of stuff. Super helpful and caring, he truly loves his job. I can't say enough how much you should take his class.
Greatest professor, easiest class, should have no worries about it. Doesn't get much better than this class. Dr. Yoder is always eager to teach and the class isn't boring at all.
Mike Yoder is the goat. He makes MATLAB super easy and he understands people have other classes that are very demanding so he gives lots of grace. GOATED
My GOAT professor cannot recommend him enough.
He is the Lebron of professors.
AMAZING PROFESSOR. He really cares and loves what he teaches. Content is SUPER easy; test content is exactly what is in the textbook. Attendance is 4% of your grade. Pretty funny guy, too. PLEASE TAKE HIS CLASS. super enthusiastic and respectable guy.
