this class is really easy. she is enthusiastic about what she does and very knowledgeable on her subject matter, as well. there is a lot of reading, but her tests are easy and her essay assignments are cake. i strongly suggest taking dr. alvarez.

I think the lectures are boring, but they are based on the book, so you can just read and pass the class. The essays are easy. She will notice if you don't come to class. She is a very nice lady. not strict nor mean.

Professor Alvarez's class is the best.She is awesome!Take her class of you want to learn more info about child psych other than what is in the text book.Her exams are real easy--just follow her study guide. Three very very simple in-class essays. Loved her lectures too.:)She makes it fun.

She's pretty easy. One 3-page paper, one midterm, two quizzes, and a final exam. She's friendly and very helpful outside of class. Her lectures are interesting. I recommend her class. She has a little dry sense of humor though.

Cares a lot about her students. If you are willing to put in the effort, she will bend over backward to help you. Sometimes lecture was a little repetitive, but that was to address a HUGE class. She's not like that in person. Takes the time to know student names. Very impressive at a large school.

Honestly, I slept through 90% of her classes. She's very difficult to listen to if you haven't had a decent sleep the night before. Read the text, and you'll get an easy B+. The rest she pulls from lectures (very little). (Yawn.)

She is so nice and cheerful. Very helpful outside of class. Must read textbook and go to class in order to pass this class. Easy A if you read text, listen to lectures, and do essay. Highly recommended. Although at times, u may get a little bored during class.

She is the most responsible and caring teacher I have ever met. She will go to great extent to make sure you understand the concepts. Alvarez expects her students to do alot of readings and studying on their own. If you study, her mid-terms and exams should be easy. I really enjoyed this class.

She tests mostly on the lecture material which made me wonder why I even bought the book. Her lectures are very clear and detailed. She covers a lot of information in not too much detail, but that may be because it was a survey class.

I was really intersted in child psychology until i took this class. She's a nice teacher who is very clear, but she is just so damn boring. I honestly thought that this child psyc would be the defining class in my college career but i just stuck with business after her. Easy pass without showing up ever, just pick up the study guide from someone.

Class is easy. I would only get 1 or 2 questions wrong on the exams, but her grading system was difficult. Those 1/2 questions wrong would equate to a B grade on an exam.

OK, she's a nice teacher, and the class is easy if you take notes on her lecture. HER LECTURES DRIVE ME NUTS!!! She repeats every sentence she says like 4 times and adds useless interjections before getting to a point. She's hard to listen to. She tries to be clear and thorough, but comes off as disorganized. She's a sweetie, though, and smart.

Very nice teacher. Very clear and she repeats what she says so you have a chance to write it all down. Best teacher I have had at SJSU, so I'm taking her for Adolescent Psych. The only people that don't like her, are the ones who don't go to class or sleep through it. You have to be in class to pass this class, what she says is not alwaysin thebook

Go to class & pay attention. She makes sure the material is easy to understand and is very helpful if you're having any trouble. Not everything on the test is in the book so attendance does become important. Her study guides are excellent if you actually use them. I would take another class from her.

She is very nice, helpful, and funny at times. The test questions come directly from the study guide, so it is very easy to get an A. Be sure to attend all the lectures because sometimes material that is only from lecture appears on the test that can't be found in the book. An overall interesting class that I would recommend.

She is really good, caring, and funny sometimes. Her lectures are clear, helpful and interesting. She gives out study guides for the exams, and quizzes. For the write ups, she will give you the topic in advance so you can prepare at home. Overall, I think she is just fantastic. I would highly recommend her :) :)

Her lectures lack direction and coherency; she focuses a lot on what should be known for the test instead of the actual content of what we’re learning; she repeats things such as simple test directions and deadlines ad nauseam (reminders are fine, but she goes overboard). A very nice person, mind you, but her lectures were a chore to listen to.

She cares about the topic and has lots of interesting things to say, but I could not stand her. She repeats herself so much it's annoying. Not test material, but mundane test instructions and other protocol. Very annoying!!! Recommended for majors, but I did better once I stopped going to class and listenting to her.

Dr. Alvarez is an amazing teacher! You have 2 quizzes, 2 tests and a paper. Paper is short, tests are based on book and lectures, so you need to do both, but the tests/quizzes are so easy if you read/go to lecture. She gives out really good study guides. Really wants to see her students do well and will help you with anything! Def. recommend!!

You have to go to class enough for her to know your name so you get class participation and there is a group discussion, 2 tests, 2 quizzes, and easy paper. She is so nice and makes sure everyone understands. She is respectful to diversity. Cares about students and what she's teaching. Lectures can be bit boring at times. But strongly recommend

I love her! She's so helpful and, best of all, FAIR. Attendance not required but definitely recommended because alot of stuff from lecture- that;s not found in the book- can be found on exams. Exams somewhat difficult unless you really study for them! If you need help with anything, she's really great at explaining things in person and in email.

She is always jumping around and spends alot of time emphasizing things that dont matter. Her tests are OK at best if you read and if you dont then its a wrap. Even if you do then it still might be a wrap because she is so irritating.and she is hard to follow and you have to take good notes because she will not emphasize the right things/ gets lost

Uses overhead alot...kinda boring teaching methods, does not keep the class interested. The class itself is interesting, but she does not teach it well-reads mainly from her notes. Graded solely on tests and quizzes, and there is alot of information to know. Spends first 15 minutes of class talking to us like we were little kids.

Not so well organized course; did not stick on the schedule, used too much time on irrelevant things (general announcements). Disregard what the previous negative comments said. She is a WONDERFUL professor and has an easy to follow teaching style. I have learned the most in this class than in any other and she doesn't read from her notes, she just uses them to guide her. She wants all her students to do well, so if you pay attention and go to class you will do so! :)

This class really surprised me. I wasn't really expecting much, but it was really interesting. Prof. Alvarez was very helpful and knowledgeable. She really wants her students to do well. Go to class, do the readings, and do the study guides. I skipped once in a while and I got a D on the first exam but I still managed to get an A- in the class.

Awesome teacher one of the best! Lectures are very clear and her passion of developmental psychology inspires me. I learned a lot not only for the exams but for the future. Her study guides are very helpful. Some exam material needs to be read but its easy reading. Attend the lecture and read what is not mentioned and you will be all set!

She is a very clear teacher- but almost to a fault. She is EXTREMELY repetitive. If you like this style of teaching you will like her, but if you are like me and you get it the first time around, you will start to tune her out. Studyguides for all exams- very helpful. Lectures were boring.

Dr. Alvarez lectures at a slow space-giving enough time to take detailed notes-which compose 90% of her exams. If you take good notes-you can just browse the book and you will do well on exams. She is very nice, answers questions well, pleasure to go to her class-she is very insightful.

I agree with most comments here, she is very sweet and helpful. ALthough she does go very slow and sometimes off subject but over all she knows her stuff. Its 3 exams, 2 quizes, and a final. No extra credit. Therefore, you must read and take real good notes. It is 60% lecture and 40% reading that is on her tests!!

Yes, she is very easy if you you attend class and take notes and do all her study guides. But seriously, I feel like I should get a gold medal for being able to SIT THROUGH her lectures. I get really annoyed when she repeats unnecessary info, which she does a lot. And she gets REALLY ticked off if you whisper/talk in class too.. But overall, easy A

She's the greatest teacher at SJSU! You need to attend class and take really good notes and do her study guides before quizzes/tests, but if you do, this class it's an easy A. I really enjoy how she goes over the information several times during her lectures, since this limited the time I needed to invest doing after class studying. My favorite!

This is what it's about. One of the top professors at SJSU hands down. Remembers everyone's name, gives you exactly what is on the test on study guides. Great attitude and connects with students. Puts a lot of teachers to shame. There's a reason why everyone who takes her class gets good grades. Excellent teacher!

Her lectures drag on until the bitter end, and she repeats every single point at least five times. The material is well covered and explained, but she wasted an extraordinary amount of time repeating herself so much. We didn't even finish half the textbook.

Dr. Alvarez is very passionate about what she teaches. Attendance is not mandatory but a lot of material you won't find in the book so it's a good idea to attend lectures. She does repeat herself a lot but I found that helpful in keeping up with my notes & reinforcing the concepts. I took her for 102 as well and I learned a lot in both. Take her!

She is a nice lady. Her lectures can be dry but I believe that's due to the material she chooses to teach. She focuses more on theory/concepts rather than biology/behavior of child development. Only exams in this seminar and no papers to write. I recommend her.

It just boggles my mind to see how someone can hold that much information and disperse them in such a logical and coherent manner without using cheat-sheets or powerpoints. When someone complements concepts with humor and derives humor from class material, you gotta believe she has mastery over her domain. Outstanding instructor!

Honestly one of the best profs. I have had at SJSU and psych isn't even my major. She makes sure the content is explained clear and the way she teaches makes it easy to learn and retain the information. She was the absoulte best!

Dr. A is the one to take! She is very clear, her lectures provide most info needed, some book, but she gives out A+ study guides (no matter how much she tells you it doesn't cover everything on test, IT DOES!) 2 quiz's, 3 exams and final not cumulative. Take notes and study study guide, and you will get an A. She is super nice and wants to help.

Lectures drag, but I really liked this professor. Do her study guides for the exam and you will do perfect seriously. I believe it was two exams, two quizzes, and the final. One quiz is open note and she still gives a study guide!. Showing up to class is a must because she gives a ton of answers for the exams.

Dr. Alvarez is an amazing professor. This is exactly what a college class is supposed to be like. She is always willing to help her students! She shows great passion for her subject. Professor lectured with no power point but that was fine as she provided an outline and was very coherent on material. Very passionate about the class and every lecture was like a story to tell. Got an A in the class. Repeats what she says if you miss it and is very helpful. Exams are fine too. Textbook is easy to read as well.Great teacher!

Psych 112: You have two in class activities, two quizzes and exams. Psych 102: You have three quizzes (one open note) and two exams. Easy class as long as you study the material she gives you. I didn't use my book that much (10-15%) but there are some questions that she asks from the book.

Definitely do yourself a favor and take her. She's so nice and approachable and doesn't make the class stressful. A couple of class activities, two quizzes and two exams, all of which she provides detailed study guides for. As long as you put in the time to fill out her study guide and retain the information, your grade will be fine

shes awesome! I love her. The class is straight forward. Posts outlines for lectures online. Need the book and must read. But easy quizzes and tests as long as you use her study guides. No essays. Just a few assignments. Exams are MC. Only one quiz has a few fill in the blanks and TF.

Dr. Alvarez is very helpful and really enjoys teaching! Read the book and attend every lecture and you should be able to get an A. The class consisted of 2 quizzes, 2 exams, and 2 in class group activities which were easy and fun. Take any of the classes she offers, she's wonderful!

I loved taking Alvarez for child psych! This quickly became my favorite class. Her lectures are very clear. She is super sweet and easy going. She assigns in class assignments at random so make sure you show up. Tests are MC and easy If you study and pay attention during lecture. I highly recommend taking any of her classes!!!

Dr. Alvarez is a great instructor. Even if you're not interested in the subject, she'll inspire you. Clear, helpful classes, study guides, pop up essays that are actually quite easy and will help you with your grades if you don't miss them, entertaining lectures and, most of all, a sensible, organized and fair instructor.

Dr. Alvarez is amazing! Attendance is not mandatory but she does have unannounced class activities that are very easy, but you must be present for them. Her exams are very well written and are easy if you do study the material, no tricks! She provides a very comprehensive study guide outline! The textbook is needed for studying. Very warm person!

This was a very interesting class thanks to Dr. Alvarez. Does have a few unannounced in class activities, but doesn't take role. Exams are easy if you study and complete her study guide. She is funny and has a wonderful and warm personality. I would recommend her classes to all students! Absolutely no cell phone use! Which is rude anyway!

I took her classes twice and love both of her class. She is very cleared in her points and make the structure very easy to follow. She always provides common example that people could easily relate to. Her sense of humor is something I look forward to in the morning. This class was very lecture heavy, that's all she does is just lecture. You have to go to class to get the lecture notes because she does not post them. The class is a simple 3 quizzes, 2 tests, 2 in-class writing assignments, and2 group activities. She tells you when they all are. Easy class if you follow the book.

Go to class, lectures are not online and are only in-class. Taking notes will be vital because she only discusses certain things in class. She really cares about the students, and likes class discussions and participation. There were 2 in-class writing assignments, and 2 in-class group writing assignments.

You have to go to class. Her tests are based on the lectures. I only used the book for a few concepts that she referenced towards in class. She's really sweet and tries to learn everyone's names even though the class is fairly large. No powerpoints, just super rough outlines then she speaks the notes to write down. Loved this prof because of how clear and thorough she is. You MUST attend class to pass. She has 3 tests and for each one, she gives a thorough study guide. If you read the book on the topics she mentions on the study guide, then you'll get an A no doubt. There are 5 opinion questions she asks in class and if you do all 5, you get extra credit.

Ms. Alvarez class is lecture heavy and 50% from book. I took this class for my minor in psychology. Being in class is a must if you want to pass. Her two tests are 25% of total course grade with three quizzes. Her review sheets are very detailed and very clear. You have to calculate your course grade at the end.

Taking her 9AM was worth it, she really cares about her students. Extremely passionate about psychology! Lectures are amazing and intriguing. Her study guides overhype how "hard" her exams are, I would study one day before exams and get close to perfect scores. The only thing I didn't like is she literally will use up every last minute of class. If you get out at 2:45 she will not stop lecturing until 2:45

Shes super nice and helpful, but her class is not so easy. You have to work your butt off to earn the grades. Attending to class and doing study guides dont help you earn an A because it only cover 50% of the material on the test. She's a really good teacher but if you're not a auditory learner then this class is going to be very difficult for you. If you are a visual learner she only puts certain things on the board and the rest of the information is being lectured and you have to listen very carefully. She isn't too challenging. You have to stay focused on lectures because she doesn't make slides, just a main outline. Study guides are a huge help to prep for tests; do everything on them and understand the info and you should be able to pass. Took 2 courses with her (PSYC102 and PSYC 112) and she is amazing. She knew her area of expertise well and respect everyone's opinions. Great professor who provides lecture outlines, study guides, and lecture recordings. Her voice is very soothing so you might fall asleep but that's ok. Everything is very straightforward and she tends to be detail orientated when it comes to grading. As long as you review her lectures, have the book on hand, and take notes you'll be fine!
