Mildred is down to earth and very intelligent. She really cares if you are interested in film, and makes time for her students.
Very intelligent and helpful. She is eager to meet with students and talk about anything, regarding class or otherwise. Lots of fun in class!
Professor Lewis is the most brilliant person I have ever met. She remembers everything and really makes you feel important. She makes time for her students. She knows what she is talking about too. She may seem a little strict and hard at first, but stay.
hmm,Im not sure what to say. She is very nice and friendly, but i sometimes dont know what she wants or is looking for in her questions and assignments. She really enjoys film, but be prepared to write papers.
Along with the visual storytelling class-too much work given (essays) on top of the visual storytelling projects that we have to do every week.
Knows everything about film but it is often hard to understand what she wants. Difficult essays and tests but is an interesting class.
Be prepared, this class is one og the toughest you will ever take. Mildred knows alot of info, but at times, its very overwhelming, just like her. She is rather unclear in what she wants. Although she seems demanding, the grading isnt so bad.
Unorganized and unprepared at times. Strange grading system.
She is very open to discussion and the class is not boring. She lets the class discuss a lot of movies and it's fairly easy.
Nice.Knowledgeable.More work than other film history professors. Often misleading about exams--i.e., saying it will be multiple choice when its not, giving a list of essay questions but using completely different ones. Be prepared to know EVERYTHING.
she is very informative and intelligent. however, it's impossible to reach her, she is consistently unorganized, and she gives a lot of busy work with an ambiguous grading system to boot. you'd want to be friends with her but not a student of hers.
She really makes you feel important and learns everyone's name. Heavy on class discussion. I'm an English major, so I didn't think that she made us write a lot of essays (two at most). Tests were easy if you took good notes. It's a really, really fun class. Never a boring moment.
Lovely individual but seemed to either lack interest in the student or was just too busy to give the necessary and timely feedback. The intructor's personal vision of the student's story seemed to be more important than helping the student realize and guide them in reaching their own.
Very busy lady. But she'll make time for you if you sign up for her office hours. She's really helpful. The class covers a lot of material. But she makes sure everyone understands the concepts before moving on. Final was easy if you study. 2-3 papers. She's really fun once you get to know her.
Mildred is awesome. I have never learned so much from one professor, you should take her if at all possible because she is the best
This teacher is horrible! She constantly repeats herself, makes awful sarcastic jokes at her students' expense, and tries to cover it all up with this fake niceness that makes you want to hurl. Tests are easy. Papers are graded purely by chance with no reason for the grade. Lots of papers!
She is very nice and caring about her students in class, but is very busy outside of class. Lectures sometimes seem to be completely repetitive day to day, but it's a good class and she teaches it well. There's a lot more work in her class but it's probably "helpful in the long run"Attendance MATTERS
Nice lady outside of class, intimidating for the first few weeks in class. More difficult than most 140 teachers, but not bad. Easy B, difficult A. Very helpful outside of class, and a decent humor. NOT ORGANIZED, so be careful to check up on work. Pretty good.
She is very repetitive in her lectures, so it actually gets inot your head. She isn't very organized but if you're having trouble she will help you out. She is intimidating at first, but as long as you keep up, its a B. Very willing to help outside of class if you can get a time slot-she's very busy
Nice lady, crazy as a Mildred Lewis. I like her but she is very unclear and often will claim to have told you about an assignment that is do soon, that she never previously mentioned. My advice to you is befriend her, but stay away from her classes.
I have had her for other classes before but she does a really good job with history of film. She knows her facts and is able to explain them clearly. She will make sure that you know the important facts and is not afraid to joke around. She is the best history of film teacher so take her if u can
She's immensely talented and most of the problems that students find with her are more based upon their lack of discipline than problems of her own accord. If you take the time to understand her and to read the book you will gather an immense amount of knowledge from her.
i've taken her twice. i liked her class the first time, hated it the second. my primary complaint is needless difficulty. 3 essays? my other film history had 1. and more tests than i can count. do not take mildred for film history. she also talks in circles and contradicts herself.her jokes are repetitive and unfunny. and she's judgemental.
She let us out a half hour early every day for the whole semester and I don't think she even realized it. She does give a good amount of essays and tests, but if you do the reading and pay attention you should be fine. I found her to be an easy grader. I found her lectures to be entertaining and she even had a doughnut and ice cream day.
Lewis has an uncanny sense of seeing right through you. She is not a particularly easy teacher--there are a lot of papers, but it's worth it. She's judgmental for sure, but she expects the best from you. I found it refreshing to be asked to do my best. I got a good grade in her class because she's fair with everything. Go to office hours.
Do not take her for an elective as she reserves the highest grades for her chosen students. But she's really informative and nice.
Heart is in the right place, but very disorganized.
She shows movies in every class. Problem? We get no more than 15-20 min to discuss extremely difficult, abstract articles. We get cheat sheets, but that's superficial. We need her to work with us in depth in person, so we understand and retain the subject. Nice woman, but she plays favorites, which demoralizes the rest of us; also she's sarcastic.
She's nice, and extremely intelligent, but she assumes everyone else is as intelligent as her. It's an Intro Class! She's not specific enough in her teaching and expectations and doesn't exactly know how to clarify lessons. She is very helpful when you make an appt. to see her one-on-one, but who's got the time!
just all around awesome.
She is extremely intelligent and absolutely knows her stuff... but her expectations are a little too high for an introductory course. She assumes that everyone already knows everything about aesthetics. Her expectations in the papers are not very clear but if you talk to her outside of class it helps. be prepared to do a lot of work.
Prof Lewis knows her stuff, but you cannot learn from her teaching style. She subtly makes fun of students instead of guiding them when they get a question wrong, her paper prompts aren't clear (neither are her expectations), you get a better grade when she helps you, but sometimes she flakes after you ask her. I would say do not take her class.
Really liked the class, makes the topic very interesting. Def gained a lot of insight into the film world, and how to critique films. I really learned a lot and would recommend her. She'll be tough but it's good
Lewis is intelligently funny, and likes to poke fun at her students, so she easily offends some. She sometimes expects too much of her students, most of who are 1st semester freshmen. However, she's incredibly bright, witty, and really encourages good work. I didn't like her in the beginning but grew to really love her personality.
good teacher, hope we become better friends in the future
great professor. her tests are tough because the wording is all weird. but she gives you good feedback on papers to let you know why you got what you did. leads really good discussions during class after movies screened.
She is the best teacher ever! Mildred is extremely clear about what she expects of the class and makes learning the concepts very fun! She also makes an effort to get to know you, and if you do the same the class will be that much better.
LOVE her! She's hilarious and she keeps it interesting. If you are looking for an easy class, this isn't for you. However, if you're a film major or you really want to be challenged and learn a lot, I highly recommend Lewis.
She is possibly the best teacher I have had in a long time. Do whatever you can to have a class with her.
Great and fun lectures, though the course information is pretty easy for any film student with a decent head on his or her shoulders. Tests are okay, sometimes the wording is confusing, but the essays are very educational.
Lewis is really helpful and cares bout your learning in this course. If you know pick important information out of lectures, you will do good.
Mildred is the best. She is so worldly and wise and I loved every aspect of the class. For all you freshmen, definitely take Faith in Popular Culture. I would take any class she offers.
Lewis really cares about teaching and about your learning. She is a fun teacher and we watch a lot of shows and movies. Her tests are hard, but manageable if you attend all the classes.
Wonderful professor! She is a true scholar and artist. This class was challenging but worthwhile. You will find her inspiring and remarkably well-spoken. I still get inspired when I see her occasionally around campus.
Love this professor! Take any class with her that you can! She cares so much about her students both in and out of the classroom. The class isn't easy and it is important to go to all the lectures to write the essays. The class starts off a little slow because of the scholarly articles but gets interesting with the movies/adaptations.
Really helpful, really funny, loves teaching. Fairly organized.
Fun class. Worth taking for your GE
Stay on her good side. She is interesting and has lots of experience. Her lectures are really long and she kind of just ends up babbling. There are like 10 writing assignments from the book, then 3 big writing assignments. If you're not really interested in film or english, you won't enjoy this class.
She has a way of sounding very combative when talking one on one with students, so I thought she didn't like me, but she gives excellent feedback on work and values class participation. The lectures spent watching movies aren't too bad.
She never told me I am a bad writer. She never gave me low scores or made fun of me. Problem was, I'm actually interested in writing. When I received comments on my work like, "This needs to be better," I have to assume she has no idea what she's doing. If her feedback wasn't completely void of comprehension, I'd giver her a higher score.
Take role and marks people off for being late to class, even though she is all the time. Weird person in general. Didn't learn a thing, could have just written the essays, and not even shown up to the class, and still gotten the same grade. Makes students do useless group work. if you are taking this for an english GE, take a different class
Professor Lewis is a genuinely nice person who wants each of her students to succeed. Her upbeat mood can brighten the mood of the entire class. she's literally offered her sweater to students who seem a little sick. Her lectures are hard to follow, and she constantly changes the syllabus, but she is a generous grader.I LOVE PRO-LEW!
Professor Lewis is nice and her lectures are always prepared and straightforward. She is sweet and quirky as a person. Her tests are fair. However, she is VERY strict on her attendance policy. If you are late or miss, you get marked down. If you can't get up early beware.
She is a sweet lady, but sort of gets scatterbrained. She is very smart, and you can tell she puts in a lot of time to her lectures, sometimes they are just hard to digest. She always says she will bring snacks and she doesn't. haha. All in all, a great person, get to know her. It seems like she has a lot of connections as well.
Great teacher! She's super funny and enthusiastic about what she is talking about...whatever it is. I didn't necessarily learn anything, but who cares! It's FFC! She was just a really nice person to be around.
I LOVE PROFESSOR LEWIS!!! She is hilarious and always finds a way to make me laugh. She is very personable and really cares about her students. Only people who wouldn't enjoy her classes are those who would rather remain ignorant. Sometimes difficult but only bc material is very deep and intellectual. TAKE A CLASS WITH PROF. LEWIS IF YOU CAN!!!!!
Professor Lewis is awesome! She does expect a lot from you, but if you show that your trying, the class becomes a billion times easier. Go to office hours, and don't be too shy to talk to her about anything. Even after leaving her class she still makes time to talk about anything i need help with. Definitely one of the great ones at Chapman.
She is one of the nicest people I have ever met. Routinely brings snacks, always trying to be accommodating, builds relationships with everyone, and very personable. She has come up to me numerous times outside of class and always brightens my mood. The class was a little confusing, but she grades with a grain of salt. Take her if you can.
ENG260 is challenging. If you're looking for an easy Art GE credit look elsewhere. The material is interesting though, and Prof. Lewis is super helpful - not a harsh grader. She explains all the material to you. The midterms and finals are online. Willing to help during office hours. Willing to work with you so you can get the grade you want.
She is really funny and can be confusing. But she honestly cares so much about he students. She is truly concerned and very helpful in office hours. I had a mental breakdown once and she was very helpful through it. Her lectures get confusing, but going over your notes every so often helps a lot. don't wait until the end.
Her classes are very confusing, as her exams. Her classes were almost all based on a textbook, and i can literally say I didn't learn anything in this class except the textbook's author ideas, which are just ideas. She speaks extremely fast and it's hard to catch up w/everything. In the end, I asked myself: "What was the whole point of this class?"
You have to do the work, there's no getting around that- but she's very good at what she does. She's very passionate and I feel like she's open-minded especially for a class called Faith in Popular Culture. It's a great class, I would take it again.
Professor Lewis is extremely knowledgable, and it's clear that she cares about her students. Keep in mind that she's very eccentric (and sometimes not necessarily in the best way). The class itself can be pretty hard at times, and sometimes the lectures given aren't always clear and may not always relate to the topic of class.
Professor Lewis is the best kind of professor and person around. She's genuine, kind, and well versed in academics. I loved her tremendously. She tries to help you in every way she can.
I found this professor to be very condescending to the students, and most of her jokes during class were disrespectful. She is angered when she feels the class time is being wasted, however every time it is her own side comments that waste the most time in class. I would never take a class under this professor ever again.
She's a sweet person but can get on your nerves. Very vague when it comes to lecturing. We were never quite sure what we were being taught, because the curriculum was so scattered. Classes are very lecture heavy, and you need to notice every detail. I personally would prefer to not take one of her classes again, but some people love her.
It's very confusing on what we are learning in class but I don't know if that's just because it's a FFC. I feel like I haven't learned from this class so I don't feel motivated. There's barely any hw so that's good.
Extremely vague in most of the things she teaches. She jumps around from topic to to topic sporadically. Everything she says is either common sense, knowledge or could be derived from logical thinking, so it is difficult to participate without sounding like captain obvious. Definitely do not recommend if you are an introvert with little patience.
Professor Lewis is amazing, super nice lady and genuinely cares for all of her students. The class wasn't too difficult because Mildred really wanted everyone to learn, so she is always available to help and makes herself extremely accessible at all times.
Love this professor.
Professor Lewis' classes are thought-provoking and inspirational. She is my favorite teacher at Chapman thus far and she brightens up my day with her sense of humor! She really cares about her students and wants to see you succeed.
If you pay attention during lecture and review power points, you will be able to be successful on the midterm and final. Unfortunately, no matter how well you are doing in the class(which is mostly common sense)your attendance is mandatory and will affect your grade. Lectures are unorganized, hard to follow, and repetitive.
This class started off to not be my favorite but I slowly started to enjoy it. She doesn't enter grades fast enough and can come off as harsh if you don't like participating. She doesn't really explain the process of writing a screenplay so you kind of just have to figure it out. But screenwriting is fun and it's clear she genuinely cares.
I loved Mildred, however, her class is very sporadic and it is difficult to follow along. Just take notes on anything she says and study the notes and power points and you'll be fine. She's really a great and smart women, I loved her.
I love her. She goes out of her way to help students network and succeed.
She is quite caring and kind but can be very unclear at times.
She is funny and engaging person, but it gets faded away by her lecture heavy teaching style and convoluted topics that she covers. The begining of the class is rather interesting but once class gets to further topics the teaching becomes chaotic and somewhat unorganized (or at least it seems like that).
2 Essays, 2 Tests, and 1 Final. In class, she does go off on tangents and she does has ambiguous grading instructions and criteria -- so it is difficult to know what she is looking for. However, she tells you exactly what is going to be on your tests and final. Quizzes are take home, and final was exactly what we expected. Such a caring professor!
Prof. Lewis does a great job at making her lectures really engaging, interactive, & entertaining. She truly cares about her students & provides great feedback on papers. You have to pay attention in class & engage in the material in order to do well because it is not an easy A. Overall a very fun class, I learned a lot, and really enjoyed Mildred.
Professor Lewis is very passionate about the topic, however she is very unclear about assignments and strays from the syllabus a lot. I never knew when reading assignments were due and found it very hard to stay on schedule. She cares about her students a lot, but you really have to pay attention in class.
By far the best teacher I've had at Chapman. Lewis is the most caring teacher I've ever had and you can tell she definitely wants you to get the best grade you possibly can.
I loved taking her class. Not what I expected- we didn't just watch movies every class- but enjoyable. I took this class as a GE and it's a good way to get the credit, not hard. The class did go online in the middle of the course, but she was very understanding. 2 short essays, creative response project, a Final essay,MT, and Final.
Professor Lewis is amazing. She is incredibly supportive and happy to give extra help and feedback. She helps her students develop their own writing style while learning about other styles. She encouraged deep thinking about the entire art of writing and provided so many resources for future use in writing and publishing. Absolutely take her class!
Professor Lewis was fun to take, but her teaching wasn't awesome. She wasn't clear about the syllabus and assignments and would often change them. She also didn't grade assignments until the end of the semester, so you didn't know your grade at all until the end. But other than that, she's personable and fun to be around.
Prof. Lewis is a great person and teacher, but a big issue I had was when she didn't explain an assignment to us, and when we tried to contact her about it, she didn't respond to literally anyone in the class. It was frustrating, but otherwise, Prof. Lewis taught the material well.
Ms. Lewis really cares about the subjects she teaches and shows that she cares her students pick up as much of it as possible. She is constantly challenging her students to pay more attention, but also gives them the benefit of the doubt when they don't get an answer right. Pay attention and you will learn.
Feedback is super helpful, and will help you succeed with your script. REALLY wants to connect with her students on a professional and personal level, but took it too far a couple times and made uncomfortable comments on students' appearances. Not with bad intentions, but gloss over some rants and she'll help you write something you'll be proud of!
The absolute worst. Avoid at all costs!!
Absolutely horrible! Condescending, on a power trip, loves to enduces anxiety, messy, disorganized. Avoid, avoid, avoid!
